There's a very important reason why I didn't show Adam's quest. And it plays into an important part of Adam's development that will start now but will fully pay off later down the line.

Il try not to spoil too much, but here are a couple details:
Adam did have a quest and yes, he did pass it and will become the green zeo ranger. But his quest was very similar to Tommy's in that unlike the rangers who had to simply outsmart an illusion, he was transplanted into a very real event. But what made his unique is that he got a glimpse into the future.

Let's just say that what he saw didn't exactly make him happy.

Season 3: Power Rangers Zeo. Part 1 of 4

The season begins with a narration by Tommy.

“10,000 years ago the most evil forces of the universe came our planet dead set on conquering it. Seeing the impending fate of this planet ignored by the rest of the galaxy, a wise and powerful scientist named Zordon believed that humans deserved a chance to fight back. Using a stolen spaceship, he came here and waited for a time when evil would strike. When that time came, he entrusted the six of us with the most powerful technology in the universe; coins that would harness the power from a dimension of pure energy. He made us into the power rangers.

And we continued to fight. Throughout all the hardship, the destruction, the injuries and the long nights. Through a kidnapping, a breakdown, and even the death of one of our own, we never stopped giving it our all. But never once during any of it did I ever really believe that we would fail.”

Tommy, Kimberly, Rocky, and Trini run along the desert floor. Overhead a dark smoke cloud looms coming from the wreckage of the burned out command center. Having all been teleported out to random locations near the outside, they have spent the past 15 minutes running around finding each other. The only two remaining ones are Adam and Billy.

As they run along the desert, they see Adam call out to them. He is carrying a backpack with something inside. Tommy says that it is good to see him, but that they are still looking for Billy. Adam has better news. He opens the backpack and the gang peers inside to see the subsections of the Zeo Crystal. Adam mentions that he grabbed it right before Alpha teleported him out of there. It is the first bit of good news the gang has received. Although the situation is still dire, this is at least a small reason to have hope.

There is still no sign of Billy, so the rangers decide to head up to the door to the command center and hope that he is there. The good news is that they see Billy by the large metal door under the left archway, trying to pry it open by himself. The bad news is that from this close the damage is even more clear. Rocky runs over to Billy and helps him pry open the door as a large burst of smoke billows out. Billy tells them to wait a few minutes for the smoke to clear before they head inside.
Meanwile up on the moon, Lord Zedd is hunched over a holographic projection of Earth with Goldar, planning the ground invasion of the planet. As they discuss tactics, Rita comes rushing in with Finster and interrupts them. Lord Zedd angrily asks what could possibly be important enough to warrant interrupting him. She tells him that unfortunately, they have a big problem.

The gang slowly walks around the circular corridor that leads into the command center and prepares for the worst. A heavy smell of smoke and burnt plastic hangs in the air, and the sleek metallic walls are visibly charred in some places. Sure enough, their worst fears are confirmed as they enter the room. The command center is a complete burnt out wreck. Almost every command console is broken, with their panels smashed and wires hanging out, blackened to by fire almost to the point of unrecognizability. In a couple of them, small fires still burn. There is nothing left of the viewing globe other than a charred base. Whatever is left of the long-range teleportation pad is buried under still smoldering rubble. But worst of all, Zordon's tube sits at the end of the room completely smashed. Glass shards litter the floor.

The gang is in such shock they don't even know what to say. Trini asks them what they are going to do. Tommy, taking the zeo crystal out of his backpack holds it in his hand and says that he doesn't know, but as long as they still have the crystal there is still hope. He turns and calls over to Billy, who seems to be lost in his own thoughts while surveying the damage. Tommy asks Billy if any of this can be repaired. Billy states that unfortunately it can't; it’s too far gone, before stating to himself that things will have to be accelerated faster than he thought. As the gang looks confused, Billy brings up his communicator and starts talking to someone on the other end to "Initiate plan Enterprise-A". A familiar robotic voce on the other end responds affirmatively before stating how excited he is that this is finally happening.

The gang breaths a sigh of relief and smiles at the news that at least Alpha is still alive. All of them start asking Billy questions at the same time about what is going on. He smiles nd responds that everything will be answered pretty soon, but in the mean time can they all step into the circular area between the command consoles. They all gather and Billy uses his communicator to contact Alpha again and tell them that they are ready. All of a sudden, the area that they are all standing is starts lowering down into the floor like a freight elevator. They travel through about 10 feet of metal tubing before emerging into a large, dark room. The platform descends the roughly 20 feet before coming to rest into the ground. The gang cautiously looks around, trying to make out their environment as Billy walks off into the room and flips a large switch on the far wall.

The lights suddenly turn on. The rangers are standing in a room that can be roughly described as long and rectangular, but with a far end at the front that narrows to a point where a much larger, but familiar looking blue tube stands. In front of the tube are command consoles spanning most of the room, looking to be made of a mix of earth and eltarian technology. Behind them in the back of the room are large tubes, each glowing a different color; red, green, blue, yellow, and pink. The left side of the room seems to be set up as some sort of laboratory area, with half finished machines in various states of repair sitting around. The right wall is seemingly exposed bedrock, indicating that this room was tunneled out. Sitting along the wall looks to be an upgraded teleportation pad as well as some sort of high tech medical table. The room is well lit, with most of the walls and panels a metallic blue. Alpha appears from the corner of the room and greets the rangers, welcoming them home.

Billy walks around the room and continues turning everything on, performing diagnostic checks on the consoles as he goes. He explains that while the rangers have been away for the past few weeks, he had a lot of downtime waiting for them to return. He started exploring the command center's other areas, and came across this old engine room in the basement. He also confirmed a suspicion that Zordon had feared for awhile. The command center was once an amazing spaceship. However the 10,000 years of sitting mostly buried in rock had degraded a lot of the flight systems and weakened the overall structure. Unfortunately it would never fly again. But where that would usually be a setback Billy saw an opportunity. The old command center had also started developing problems in it's technology. And on top of that wasn't big enough to do everything the rangers might need space for. So the engines and flight machinery were stripped from this room and turned into a newer and upgraded command center. he wasn't quite ready to show it off and was planning on starting the transition in a couple of months, however with the old one wrecked the transisition would have to be sooner. Billy finishes pushing some buttons on the console and looks up with a grin as the tube at the center of the far wall powers up and springs to life. And the previously inquisitive faces of the rangers turn to excitement as a familiar face appears projected onto the inside of the tube.

Zordon smiles at the rangers and congratulates Billy on the amazing new home that he has built them. However celebrations will have to be cut short lived as there is some important work to do. Tommy takes the zeo crystal out of his bag and holds it up to Zordon's approval. Tommy asks Zordon now that they have the crystal, how are they going to use it to protect themselves.

Meanwhile Billy rolls over a cart containing a strange looking device. It is 5 metal cylinders, each about the size of a large water bottle with metal tubes that flow out into a strage mix of electronics, finally to emerge where they flow into a small metal box, with 5 strange looking little octagonal crystals plugged into the top. Billy takes the zeo crystal from tommy and breaks it apart into each of its subsections, placing each one in a cylinder before screwing a cap onto the end. Billy puts on a pair of dark safety glasses and tells the other rangers that they might want to look away before he turns on the device.

He presses a button and it comes to life. Each of the cylinders glow so brightly out of a little window on the side that everyone has to cover their eyes. The entire machine starts glowing a pure, vibrant white that drowns out every other light source in the room. And the entire machine makes a dull humming sound so powerful that it seems to resonate with the universe. And then slowly, the small crystals in the end start to glow as well. Each one a different color. Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green, and Red. Finally the light from the machine fades and it powers down, leaving only the small crystals glowing their respective colors. The machine is lightly smoking as even the crystals themselves fade.

Billy explains that these smaller crystals are like batteries that hold all of the zeo power of their larger subsections. They are called zeonizer crystals. It basically makes them the new power coins. He goes back to the lab and rolls out a smaller car with 5 sets of devices on them, explaining that these are their new morphes. He calls them the zeonizer. The morphers are two wrist mounded devices, one silver and gold and another black. He tells them to plug the crystals into them and bring the morphers together on their wrists and that is all they have to do.

Kimberly steps forward and asks the uncomfortable question that has been hanging on everyone's mind. "Billy, there are 6 of us. Why are there only 5 sets of morphers". He looks disappointed before starting to explain. There are only 5 subsections of the zeo crystal that were recovered. And each subsection is enough to successfully power one zeonizer crystal with enough energy to keep the power stable. Unfortunately, one of them is going to have to step down as a ranger. Before anyone has a chance to process what they are just being told, Rocky blurts out "Ok, I will". They all look at him as he shrugs and explains that he is the newest member, the least adept at driving the zords, and to be honest, he doesn't think that anyone will miss him.

Billy unplugs the blue zeonizer crystal from the machine and looks down on it as he twirls it around in his hand, contemplating his next words. Billy explains that the zeo crystal chose Rocky as worthy, and it clearly belongs to him. Rocky disagrees, telling Billy that his contributions with technology and science definitely surpass his own contributions to the team, and that Billy is too valuable to let go. But Billy explains that he doesn't necessarily need to be a ranger to keep doing that. Rocky is right, Billy's most valuable contribution is his brain. And he can keep doing that from right here at the command center. He tosses the zeonizer crystal to rocky and adds "besides, I think you'll look good in blue". Rocky catches it and smiles, and thanks Billy. Zordon also agrees that he does still consider Billy a ranger, and that he is proud of how far Rocky has grown being a member of this team. Trini and Adam console Billy making sure he is ok with this, and he half-heartily reassures them that he is. He then brushes the question aside and tells them that he wants to check out the new powers he made them.

Season 3 Part 1 Continued

Each of them excitedly strap on their new morphers and plug a zeonizer crystal into the black device on their wrist. Billy explains to just connect the two devices on their wrist together and "they already know the rest". They all line up smiling, and after nodding at Tommy that they are ready, bring their wrists together with a familiar call of "It's morphin time!"

The zeonizers glow that same familiar blinding light, and the rangers bring their hands back down to their sides. In the span of a second, a bright computer grid forms around them followed by their costume. After a bright flash, the Zeo Rangers are left standing there. Thier costumes are grander looking than their previous ones, with their belt, boot cuffs, gloves, shoulders, and cheasts covered by a gold, circuitry looking trim. The top part of their cheast is covered in a white triange, but other than that and their visor's (which are in various geometric shapes), thier costumes are completely monochromatic. Tommy who is now the red ranger, turns to Adam who is now the green ranger and is supised to see that someone else is green. Adam looks down at his own costume and is surprised. Rocky adds that Tommy is now red. Zordon tells them that the zeo crystal subsections that chose them have given some of them new colors. They take off their helmets and gleefully take the chance to admire their new powers. Zordon tell them that the original power rangers were a force to be reckoned with and stood strong against the onslaught of evil, but that a new group of heroes has risen from their ashes. With the same bravery and determination, but newer technology and with a more powerful arsenal, the power rangers zeo have arrived.

And Billy adds that as of a few minutes ago, construction of the new zords has officially begun. Billy brings up something on the new viewing screen, which is now a screen to the right of Zordon's tube. The rangers look up to it and see a view inside of the Zord docking bay, where materials are being fabricated from scratch and large eltarian cranes start assembling them together.
While the zords are being completed though, a mission awaits them. About an hour ago the command center picked up a large power source on the far side of the moon followed by a large spaceship flying away that matches the characteristics and profile of Lord Zedd’s Serpentera. Zordon wants the rangers to teleport to the moon and investigate. To help them, they will be taking a small handheld device that can detect the presense of monster life forms. Their mission is to remain stealthy and hidden, and just see what is happening.

Excited to be back in action, the rangers put on their helmets and step onto the long range teleporter, before Billy activates the switch teleporting them away. After they are gone he looks away with a sense of melancholy and says “Good luck guys…”

The rangers arrive on the moon a few hundred yards from the castle and slowly start walking towards it, Billy’s device in Trini’s hand. Rocky turns towards the rest of the gang and remarks “Hey guys, remember when visiting the moon wasn’t something we did every few weeks?”.

As they get closer to the castle, something is definitely off. The usual candles burning in the windows giving the castle an orange glow are all out. Trini remarks that there are no signs of any life coming from inside. Slowly, they open the main doors. In the main entryway, there is a sign in imposing letters reading “Bandora Palace”. Adam asks if any of them have been inside here before. Tommy solemnly reflects on Zach’s death and says “Once..”

Slowly the rangers move up the palace towards Lord Zedd’s main command center. First they pass the dungeon, looking in one of the cells to see a red hoodie left in the corner, folded up to be used as a pillow. Kimberly picks it up and looks at it, recognizing it as Jason’s. This is where he must have been kept when Zedd was holding him here last year. Next they come across Finster’s lab. It is dark and devoid of life. Except for the dozens of clay monsters sitting on the shelves. Adam picks one particularly ugly figure up and shows it to Trini, remarking that this is where the magic must have happened. Rocky passes a room and asks Kimberly if she wants to see something very disturbing. They look into a room with an ornate bed and equally high class furniture and realize chillingly that this is Lord Zedd's bedroom. Trini comes across a room filled with technology from all over the galaxy rand realizes this is where Jason must have contacted them from. Tommy remarks that Finster must have been quite the hacker. Finally the gang comes upon the main throne room. The room is dark and Lord Zedd’s throne sits empty. A weapons rack sits on the far end of the room, and right away everyone knows that it must belong to Goldar. Tommy walks up to the throne slowly and runs his hand over it, wondering what kind of darkness must lie in someone’s heart to drive him to do the kind of evil that Zedd has.

Rocky asks the team what happened to Zedd. Everyone is gone. Did he just give up? Leave? Trini cuts him off. Zordon said there was a massive power source on the far side of the moon. If it scared Zedd away than it must be pretty bad. Kimberly agrees. Something isn’t right here. Adam paces around the room trying to figure things out, when suddenly he finds himself face to face with a 6 foot tall metallic robot.

The robot makes a noise and suddenly a dozen more flood into the room. They are all either silver or bronze with roughly human proportions, except for dark, lifeless eyes and a slit for the mouth. Adam tries to push one away however it grabs his hand and punches him in the chest, sending him flying back into the other rangers. Great, these things can fight. The rangers circle up and start fighting the robots. Unlike the random chaos of the putties, they are efficient and calculating in their fighting style, and always seem to know the counter attack for whatever is thrown at them. They are also significantly stronger, packing a devastating punch. However eventually the rangers blocks do seem to wear out whatever circuits and hydrolics power them, making their moves slower. One by one the rangers are able to deal more damage to them until enough damage is done that they start falling down broken with mechanical seizing, their still functional parts trying to get up again.

After the ones in the room are all defeated, Trini runs over to the room’s balcony and looks over at the lunar landscape in horror. She calls all the other rangers over who share her surprise. Thousands of more of these robotic footsoldiers are marching toward the palace. In the center of the formation flies a small hovercraft about the size of a large yacht carrying 5 larger robots. One large and round carrying a metal staff. A more feminine looking robot with a metal Japanese fan. A short, 4 foot tall robot sits between them. And two taller ones, similar in size to the footsoldiers but with more ornamentation stand in the back.

Tommy calls Zordon on his communicator and asks to get them out of their as soon as possible. The other rangers can hear more of the robots approaching down the hall. But Zordon tells them that due to the energies surrounding the castle, they need to be outside to be teleported. With the robots approaching, they are left with no choice than to jump off the balcony and fall the 100 feet to the surface of the moon.

Even with their new powers protecting them it hurts. A lot. They collect themselves and prepare to sneak off, but unfortunately the dust that was churned up by their landing is noticed by one of the robotic footsoldiers. The message is automatically sent to every one of the thousands, who break ranks and charge for the rangers in unison. Their movements are clunky and robotic but still direct and consistant, and fast enough to eventually catch the rangers.

Rocky notices the flood of robots marching towards them and calls to the other rangers who sprint away. Overhead, two spider-like drones who look to be piloted by two of these footsoliders fly towards the rangers. They run as fast as they can, but the drones start firing lasers at them, causing explosions behind them. Faster and faster they sprint, Tommy yelling for Zordon that they need to be teleported now.

In the command center Zordon calls to Alpha and Billy to get the pod ready as fast as possible to teleport the rangers back. Billy calls out that they are within range and flips the switch to activate the pod. With a large crack of lightning, the rangers appear on the pod and collapse in a puff of moon dust. They all get up and take off their helmet to catch their breath. Kimberly asks Zordon what were those things. Zordon inquisitively looks down and remarks that he always feared this day would come. Rocky mumbles under his breath that Zordon seems to say that a lot lately. Trini and Adam give him a death glare, and he apologizes.

Zordon remarks that the dark legacy of Eltar has come back to haunt them. Hundreds of years before Zordon was born, scientists of Eltar celebrated as they gave birth to AI. Robots had always been a staple of Eltarian technology, but for the first time they had developed ways of making them think, create, and even feel.

After that things moved very fast. Within a few years the robots demanded to be recognized as equal persons. With their new found feelings, they realized that they no longer wished to serve Eltarians as property, as they saw it as slavery. Reluctantly, the governing council granted them personhood. The robots tried to blend into society, however their presense still made many uneasy. Anti-robot sentiment soon arose. Realizing this, and realizing that Eltarian cities were not designed to accommodate their needs efficiently, robots fled Eltarian society to establish their own city in a uninhabitable arctic desert near Eltar’s south pole.

The city which had no name grew quickly and was designed and assembled in the most efficient way possible to accommodate robots. Robotic workers who never grew tired labored to mine ore undernieth the city 24 hours a day and convert it into steel and silicon which allowed the city to grow. Every robot there was entirely networked, allowing for instant transmission of data across the population and real-time collective problem solving. Whenever an issue popped up in the city, in an instant the most efficient solution was calculated and the plan put into action.

Within a year the economy of the city surpassed every other in the solar system. Within two the population grew to the most concentrated of any on the planet. And with this growing dominance, so did the collective uneasiness of everyone on the planet. The robots, having access to all communications on the planet, realized that this was headed towards eventual violence, and within 1 second made the decision to attack. Robotic drones poured out of the city and started bombing other inhabited places.

But luckily, the government had planned for this. Within a half hour Eltar launched a massive EMP device as a counter attack. They then bombed the city with dozens of nuclear weapons, wiping out whatever was left. The scale of the attack was so large that it took the planet almost a hundred years to fully recover.

But within that half hour before the counter attack, Eltarian defense forces noted a large spaceship leaving the planet. The spaceship was never found, however everyone knew it was the Machine Empire leaving to rebuild. And now that they had been attacked, it was without question to them that they would be an enemy.
J
udging by the fact that there were no energy signatures of a spaceship landing on the moon, it can only mean one thing. They followed Rita there almost 10,000 years ago. It was an incredibly efficient. With the rangers gone there was no one left to protect earth, leaving it wide open to attack. But at that point Zedd and Rita hadn’t invaded yet or fortified their hold on earth. The robots knew that all they would have to do is defeat whoever was left in Zedd’s castle and then they would more easily be able to take over the planet with no one to stand in their way.

Season 3 Part 1 Conclusion

But who were those robots in the center of the formation they saw. Billy remarks that they are about to find out. The viewing screen shows that a giant saucer has flown over Angel Gove. As a crowd gathers to see it, a massive hologram is projected onto the sky showing the round and female robot the rangers saw earlier. The large one starts speaking:

“Good day people of Earth. We have been watching you for some time. My name is King Mondo, leader of the Machine Empire. And this is my companion, Queen Machina. While us robots do not usually have individuality, we are built with assigned tasks, and my people felt it was best to have a central processing hub for collective tactical and logistic decision making.

We have lied dormant for 10,000 years, watching the battle between good and evil play out. But now that both sides have been eliminated, now is the logical time to start our takeover of Earth, in which we have detected the presence of sufficient raw materials to expand our empire.

While the population of humans will be significantly reduced in order to accommodate our growth, we do have some use for humans in a labor capacity. Fear would be irrational in this case, as it would indicate an inability to adapt to our presence and therefore require immediate deletion. For efficiency, please remain where you are as we arrive to process your suitability for continued existance.”

A single small robot is teleported into the city into a crowd of people. Both of his arms contain laser looking devices, that he uses to start scanning people in the crowd. The crowd instantly panics and runs away. After he scans each one he speaks in a robotic voice “Subject 000000001; unsuitable; delete” after which a laser burst shoots out at the person.

A few seconds later the power rangers teleport nearby. The robot turns to them and scans. “Subjects 0000012-0000017”; unsuitable, salvage and then delete”. The rangers start fighting him to find that not only is he a skilled fighter, but is much stronger than the robotic footsoldiers that they fought earlier. Just as they are about to wear him down, the robot states “Fighting style illogical; escalate”. A small drone with a round “face” not too much bigger than an earth drone flies down and plugs into a port on his back. Suddenly, he grows to immense size.

Tommy gets on his communicator and asks Billy if the zords are ready yet. Billy states that they were just completed and he is sending them their way now. Inside the Zord docking bay, new zords spring to life and exit the large door leading up to the surface. The rangers look on as they admire their new Zords come into view. A large red falcon belonging to Tommy. Billy tells him over the communicator that Tommy seemed to enjoy flying the white falcon that belonged with the Shogunzord. A Green bull for Adam. A blue sphynx-like Lion for Rocky. And two massive tanks for Kimberly and Trini. Kimberly asks why Billy didn’t make them all animals. Billy responds back that while they were gone he was watching a lot of Doctor Who and got inspired. When Kimberly clearly doesn’t understand, he asks if they are going to complain or give their new ride’s a spin. Tommy agrees, and they all teleport inside the zords.

Their individual cockpits are very much like the Thunder Megazord. Clearly Billy wanted to stick with what worked. Each of the rangers goes to town on the robot, with Adam and Rocky firing lasers at it while Tommy flies by and delivers straffing fire. However Kimberly and Trini’s tanks by far deliver the most powerful blows, with their massive cannons dealing huge damage. Kimberly is surprised and apologizes to Billy for ever complaining. But the robot seems to be taking every hit in stride, so the team knows what they have to do. Form the new Zeo Megazord.

As the megazord forms together, each of the ranger’s cockpit chairs come out of their individual zords and head up into the megazord cockpit. Unlike the Thunder Megazord which was a large and circular room in the chest, this one is back in the head like the original. However what it trades in spaciousness it does make up for in practicality, as commanding the zord from the head does make controlling it more intuitive. The zord seems to find a middleground between the sleek efficiency of the Thunder Megazord and the brute strength of the original. After a quick finishing move, the robot has been defeated.

Back in the command center, the team is celebrating taking down their first robot. Billy is happy that his tech is working so well, but you can tell he is still a bit melancholy. Tommy notices and places his hand on Billy’s back; knowing what is up without saying a word. Trini asks Zordon if he thinks that the Machine Empire can be defeated. Zordon says that admittedly this is a new development he didn’t plan for, however the rangers have always exceeded his expectations and made him proud time and time again. Adam enthusiastically agrees. Telling the group that he knows that they can figure this out. Tommy agrees that King Mondo has never met the likes of the Zeo Rangers. They’ve got this.

On Serpentera, Zedd sits in his command chair brooding as Rita sits on the seat next to him. Goldar stands by their side as Finster pilots the ship in orbit around Mars with the help of a few putties. Rita is clearly annoyed. She starts snapping at Zedd, wondering how he could let a glorified tin can drive them into hiding on the day that was supposed to be their greatest triumph. Zedd yells at her to shut up. Goldar timidly asks Zedd what they are going to do now. He responds that the day did not go as they have hoped. But that he does not want to hear another negative word from either of them. Now is just the time to start playing the long game. In fact, his plan has already been put into effect. Even though his face is hidden by his mask, you can tell that an evil grin rests underneath.

That night, Tommy comes home after a long day, throws his zeonizers into a drawer next to his bed, and collapses in his bed with a loud sigh. He closes his eyes as if to go to sleep, but after a few seconds they open up as he starts fidgeting. He looks across the room at his computer, and then with purpose gets up and walks towards it, sits down and turns it on. He opens up a search engine and types the words “David Trueheart” into the search bar.

Next Time on Power Rangers Zeo:

As the fight with the Machine Empire heats up, Tommy has been spending his time looking for his long lost brother. But will his investigation turn up anything?

A new foreign exchange student arrives in Angel Grove, but unbeknown to anyone she has her own agenda.

Billy finds it harder to adapt to his new role in the power rangers.

And finally, a mysterious spaceship approaches earth. But will it spell danger or hope for the ranger's fight against evil?

Stay tuned to find out.
