Well it wasn't so much that it was someone new replacing Jason. It was someone they all knew and loved. I think either Jason was so glad to have Tommy back that he didn't care if Tommy was deemed leader or Jason knew he was leaving anyways cause clearly being a Power Ranger doesn't pay well. Jason was always better than Tommy in my opinion as leader. He had to make harder choices and his passion for his friends was brought out several times.
You are correct. And that is exactly how I want people to feel. There is no clear answer here. Jason and Tommy are both good leaders, and the validity of both thier decisions is up for debate. That is why the circumstances that lead Jason to leave are so tragic.

Anyway, the first part of Season 2 is here. This will be a longer outline than season 1, so there will be more parts. Without futher ado:

SEASON 2 PART 1
We open the season at a park in Angel Grove. People of the city are enjoying the nice summer afternoon as some play, some walk, and one couple sits at a bench and eats lunch. The man looks down at the water in his water bottle and notices it is vibrating. The rest of the people at the park seem to take notice as well, as the ground starts shaking. They all look up to the horizon and stare in horror as they as one of Rita’s giant monsters (a particularly ugly troll creature) is walking towards the city from the desert. The crowd gets up and starts running away but then one of them stops and points upward. The rest of them take notice and stop their running, instead stopping to cheer. Walking up behind the monster is the Megazord.

Inside the cockpit we see that Jason is still enjoying the benefits of Tommy’s powers; still wearing his shield. The rangers have clearly become masters at controlling the Megazord, performing their duties without any sign of fear or excitement; going through the motions of using the controls they have become comfortable with over the past year. They make short work of Rita’s monster, and stop to deliver a quick salute to the crowd in the park before sending the Zords back to their locations.

We cut next to Jason’s private karate class wrapping up for the day. Like the Megazord, we see that the rangers are just going through the motions at this point. They have settled into a routine of defeating monsters, and have gotten the process down to a science at this point. However that doesn’t mean their life has become easy. It is still a never ending job, and at a moment’s notice they always have to spring into action to defeat the next monster that Rita unleashes on the city. The whole group aside from Jason is clearly tired and bored. This state of mind, combined with the gang’s residual sadness over losing Tommy, has left them in a state of low morale.

Jason has been trying to be a good leader by putting on a strong face and trying to brighten people’s spirits, but privately he is more stressed out than any of them. Ever since the end of last year, he has been racked with feelings of guilt over choosing not to give Tommy his powers back. As much as things are going well for them on the outside, he knows that overall he made the wrong decision.

He tracks down Billy, Kimberly, Zach, and Trini at the juice bar. He tries to break the ice by telling a funny story, but clearly no one is in the mood. Trini and Zach are debating the effectiveness of certain Karate moves while Billy is apathetically drawing a diagram of the Megazord cockpit. Meanwhile, Kimberly is completely ignoring everyone as she texts Tommy on her phone. When Trini and Zach try to settle their debate by asking Jason his opinion, Jason realizes that something needs to be done. He tells them that they have all been working too much lately, and proposes that they take a small break from their Ranger duties for a couple days and do something fun. When Zach asks what they should do, Jason takes a folded up flier from his pocket and puts it on the table.

Zach unfolds the piece of paper and the rest of the gang looks at it. It is an advertisement for the “Fifth Annual Angel Grove Teen Games”. Trini says that her parents have been telling her about this. It is a competition held between Angel Grove High and the Local Private School where teens will compete against the other school in various athletic and scholastic events. All proceeds from the event will go to a charity of the winning school’s choosing. The gang seems excited at this, and for the first time in a while, the whole they seem to actually be happy.

Meanwhile on the moon, things are going horribly. Rita seems to be at her wit’s end. At this point she has played all her hands, and has clearly used up every idea she has had. With Goldar gone, she has no one to turn to for new tactics. The only option she has left is to continuously send monsters to the town in the hopes that eventually one will be successful. Finster seems to sense the growing futility in his job, as he responds to Rita’s demands increasingly apathetically.

Suddenly everything on the moon grows dark, as if a dark cloud was wrapped over it. Then the strange becomes stranger, as a violent lightning storm appears, blasting up moon dust up and scorching pieces of the castle. Suddenly out of the center of the clouds comes an enormous ship, looking like a huge robotic dragon slithering through the air right towards them. Finster asks Rita what is happening, and she replies that it is all of their worst nightmares.

The dragon spaceship lands near the base of the castle and Rita sees two figures emerge and walk towards the Castle. She then hears loud, pounding footsteps coming up stairs. Rita is in a state of panic trying to think of a way out, but she knows that at this point there is no escape. She looks towards the door as the great and powerful Lord Zedd walks into the room.

Lord Zedd is a commanding figure, at 6’4” inches tall with a large frame. His entire body is exposed muscles, partially covered by metallic armor or an unknown metal that looks almost like a steel skeleton wrapped around him. His face is completely concealed by a metal mask; his eyes by a large red visor and his mouth by a grill curved upwards as if in an evil grin. He is holding a staff made of the same metal topped by a large “Z”.

Rita opens her mouth and begins to speak in a frightened tone, clearly in an attempt to plead for her life. “Lord Zedd, what an honor it is…….”. Lord Zedd immediately cuts her off with his loud, booming voice and screams for her to drop to her knees. She complies, and he holds his staff over her as if to strike her. She puts her hands above her head to protect herself.

He tells her that he has grown tired of her failures. She has been given every opportunity to succeed in this easy assignment, and has continuously failed in every way. Taking over earth was supposed to be an easy assignment. It is a primitive culture with no technological advantage. Its only means of defense are 5 power rangers, and she can’t even stop them. She has even had the rare advantage of two power coins of her own, and those have been lost as well. She even let her most trusted ally Goldar be defeated by them. Luckily he has been able to fix atleast one of these mistakes.

At that moment Goldar walks into the room, revealing he is still alive. Rita asks him how he could commit such a betrayal after she trusted him, and he tells her that he was never working for her in the first place.

He then says that she is being removed from her duties, and this is a decision that is long overdue. For her continuous practice of failure to perform her duties, she is being given the punishment of being sent into the sun. Lord Zedd uses his staff to shrink her to 6” tall. He then points towards Finster, and tells him that if he does not want to share the same fate he should prepare a small capsule to contain the former empress of evil. Finster walks out with one, and apologizes to his boss as he places her in the capsule and seals it shut. Lord Zedd than launches it off the balcony and towards the sun. A minute later, Finster confirms that the capsule has reached its destination, and the capsule has been incinerated. Zedd is pleased at the news, and announces that it is now time to get some real work done. A large stone throne with a large “Z” on the back emerges from the floor, and Zedd takes his seat, resuming his place as the rightful heir to Rita’s work.

Back on Earth a couple days later, the teens are at the local private school competing in the Teen Games. Earlier that morning, Kimberly won the gymnastics competition. Currently, the rest of the gang is in a gymnasium watching Jason and Trini compete in the Martial Arts match and so far are doing rather well. Meanwhile, a skinny, half Asian student is wandering the crowd trying to get some good pictures on his camera. He is Adam Park, a reporter for the school newspaper. He politely asks people in front of him obstructing his shot to move, but they ignore him as if they don’t hear anything.

Jason and Trini win the match, and Adam goes down to the ring where the teens were competing to see if he can get a quote from the athletes for the article he is writing. He fights through the crowd of coaches, althetes, and friends of the athletes (all of whom ignore him) until he finally reaches the gang, all crowded around Jason and Trini. He introduces himself and asks if they have anything to say about the games today. Jason doesn’t seem to take notice of him, and Kimberly, Billy, and Zach are busy congratulating him, but Trini walks over and says hi. She tells him that it has been a really fun day, and it is an honor to have chance to meet so many other talented athletes. He thanks her for the quote and walks away.

Adam walks out to a courtyard in the school and sees a group of the rich kids eating lunch. He approaches them and after a few tries, manages to get them to stop talking enough to pay attention to him. He asks them all for a quote about the competitions being held today. All of them say that they have somewhere to go, and get up and leave. He yells after them that he only needs one quote, and one of the kids decides to stay; telling his friends he will catch up to them.

The kid, a good looking boy with dark hair introduces himself to Adam as Rocky. Adam says that he knows, as they have been in the same class since 3rd grade. Adam recognizes the guy as the son of Martin De Santos, CEO of De Santos Engineering and the richest man in Angel Grove. Rocky (clearly trying to save face), pretends to suddenly remember who Adam is, but clearly doesn’t even know his name. Adam doesn’t seem to mind, and asks him what his thoughts are about the City Wide Teen Games being held today. Rocky says he didn’t even know that it was being held today, as hes been busy hanging out. Adam then moves on to his next question, and asks him what charity he thinks the proceeds of the games should go to. Rocky gives a reply indicating he doesn’t have many thoughts on that either. He apologizes that he couldn’t help Adam more, and turns to catch up with his friends. Adam stops him, asking if there’s anything he does care about. Rocky , upset that he is being called out when he never has done anything but mind his own business, sarcastically replies that he will get back to Adam once he finds something that’s worth it.

Meanwhile, the gang is watching Zach compete in the dance competition. He is about to wrap up his dance. After he is done, the gang tells him that it was awesome, and that there is no way that the guy from the private school can top him. They stand back to watch Zach’s competiton perform when trouble hits. Suddenly the ground starts shaking. Zach asks if it is one of Rita’s giant monsters, but Billy says that this is different. This is too violent, more like an earthquake.

The team runs outside to see a monster. He is human sized, but whenever he steps he has the power to cause earthquakes. As everyone in the school flees, the team finds a private grove of trees to Morph. They attack the monster, but they find it hard to keep their balance as every step the monster takes causes the earth to shake to severly that they fall over. Jason, knowing that they cannot defeat this monster right now, shifts the focus to making sure that everyone in the school gets out safely.

The team runs into the school, escorting people to the exits and clearing the way of the increasingly growing piles of rubble that are forming as the school collapses in the earthquake. Jason sees Rocky sitting down up against a locker, scared as things are falling down around him. Jason looks up and sees a chunk of concrete the size of a surfboard about to crumble down where Rocky is sitting. He thinks quickly and pushes Rocky out of the way, and gets him to an exit. Rocky looks at the Red Ranger in awe of the hero in front of him, and begins to thank the guy for saving his life, clearly searching for the perfect words. Jason does not have time for this, and just asks Rocky if he is ok. When Rocky replies yes, he runs back into the school to help more people. As Rocky watches the Red Ranger run away back into the middle of danger after saving him, you can see a light in his mind turn on as he is inspired. Rocky knows what he has to do, and runs to people standing too close to the school and gets them to get away to a safer distance.

After the team is sure that the school is empty, they go back to fighting the monster. They realize that they cannot get close enough to him to fight hand to hand, but they can shoot him with their guns. They begin blasting away, distracting the monster enough for Jason to get close with the Power Sword. From the moon, Lord Zedd can see that the battle is not going as well as he would like, and uses his staff to make the monster grow. The team knows it is time for the Zords, and forms the Megazord.

The Megazord fights the monster in the desert. Initially the fight is going pretty well. The Megazord gets quite a few good hits in, and the monster seems more interested in running farther away from town than fighting back. They get to a flat mountaintop on the far edge of town, and the monster suddenly stops running and just stands his ground as the Megazord approaches. As the Zord prepares to strike, Trini is wondering aloud why the monster would spend so much time running away when he seems to not be scared at all now. Jason says there would be no reason to unless….he was luring them here. You can hear the sudden realization in his voice as fear sinks in.

He orders the rest of them to get the Megazord out of there, but it is too late. The monster causes another earthquake, this one violently massive. As the rest of the team is trying in vain to get the Megazord away, the earthquake activates a dormant volcano under the mountain they are standing on. The ground opens up under the Megazord and it stumbles into the lava below. The feet of the zord hit the lava first. Jason orders that the rest of the gang break up the Megazord so the separate Zords can get away, but it is too late for that. The Tricerotops and Saber Toothed Tiger have already sunk far enough into the lava that they are lost. Jason still thinks they can save the three others, so the Megazord break up into the three remaining zords. Billy and Trini get out of their chairs and stay in the Megazord cockpit as the rest of the ranger’s cockpit chairs disappear into the wall or floor into their separate Zords. The Pterodactyl flies away easily, and the Tyranosaurus’ walks away in time, but as the Mastadon is forming back into its individual Zord the ground beneath it crumbles away and it falls towards the lava. Jason commands the Tyranosaurus to leap towards the crater of the volcano to catch the zord. He grabs a hold of it in time, but the lava is rising and the zord is too heavy. Jason orders Zach to evacuate immediately. As Zach teleports to safely, the arms of the Tyranosaurus break off from the weight and the Mastadon falls into the lava and melts away. Before Jason can get his Zord to safety, a large splash of lava hits the zord and badly damages it, melting away parts of its head and chest. It still is intact enough for Jason send the zord to the retreat of its docking bay.

The team meets up on the ground, except for Kimberly, who is trying her hardest to do damage to the monster by blasting it with her Zord’s lasers. It does so little damage to the monster that he seems to ignore it completely, and walks towards Angel Grove, intent on resuming its spree. Kimberly realizes that the monster could do immense damage to the city if it reaches it, and makes a difficult decision. She aims the Zord right at the Monster, and flies right towards it. At the last second, she teleports away, but the rangers can only watch in horror as the Zord hits the monster, causing a massive explosion which destroys both it and the creature.

Yea I know, ive been flakey with this. At the very least, il try and have season 2 finished ASAP.

SEASON 2 PART 2

The entire team meets up the command center. They all are thankful once they see that Kimberly is safe. They ask Zordon one it going on, as Rita’s monsters have never been so destructive before. Zordon informs them that his worst fear has come to fruition. All the intelligence that was gathered on Rita back on Eltar showed that she came from a poor village on a distant planet. There is a huge gap in her backstory, and by the time they find anything else on her, she is already a well funded terrorist. Now the records on her planet are poorly kept anyway, so most people assumed that her power and fortune were gained as a part of early criminal activity on her home planet, but Zordon always had a different theory.

Back on Eltar, there was a major terrorist whose name every citizen of the planet knew. Lord Zedd; fanatical wizard with dreams of conquering the universe and bringing it under his control. He was even able to conquer a few smaller planets on his own before taking his fight to Eltar. After Eltarian warriors were sent off to stop him, Zedd disappeared and was never officially heard from again. Zordon always thought that Zedd did not just disappear to hide, but has rather been using smaller terrorists to individually conquer planets one by one. He must have been the one who gave Rita her power in the first place and assigned her to take over earth. But now that she has failed, he has stepped in to take it over himself.

Jason is wondering how they are supposed to stop him now that all but one of the Zords has been destroyed, but Zordon says he also may have an answer to that. While the Zords they have used had served them well, they were not perfect. The controls were clunky and designed for those already familiar with Eltarian technology, the individual zords themselves were not agile, none of them were of much use individually, and on top of that, spending thousands of years in storage have taken its toll on their mechanics. In his spare time, Zordon has been designing a new set of Zords. The only problem is that it would involve using the power cores from the old Zords to power the manufacturing process, leaving the city without protection for days. However now that they have no choice, they will have to go with that plan. Zordon will have the power core taken out of the T-Rex Zord and begin construction of the new ones immediately. In the meantime, the rangers will have to do the best they can.

And that time comes all too soon. Over the next few days, the rangers get good at defeating a monster quickly and efficiently before it can grow to a large size. But Lord Zedd catches on quickly, and soon sends down a fully grown monster to terrorize the city. As the other Rangers watch the monster approaching the city, Jason gets the idea to use the Dragonzord, which has been lying dormant ever since Tommy lost his powers. He teleports fully morphed into the flooded cockpit, and manages to hold his breath for the two minutes it takes the zord to emerge from the water.

As great of an idea as it was to use the Dragonzord, it still isn’t much of a match for the monster. Lord Zedd’s monsters are signifigantly stronger than Rita’s, and Jason can tell that by the way the Zord is getting hit and the fact that his own hits seem to be having little effect on the monster, the Zord stands a huge risk of getting critically damaged or even destroyed if it stays in this battle too much longer.

The other Rangers teleport to the command center and tell Zordon that they need the new Zords immediately. Zordon says that the programming is not quite complete yet, but they are intact enough to make due for this fight. The rangers walk outside of the command center as Zordon introduces them over their communicators to their new zords.

Slowly the new zords fly over the mountains out of a storm cloud and come into view. They are a complete redesign from the old ones, but you can tell that Zordon and Alpha borrowed a lot of elements from the old designs, sticking with what worked while making noticeable improvements. The new zords are faster, more powerful, have much more intuitive controls, and best of all, can be put on autopilot to form the megazord in the absence of a ranger; preventing a recurrence of the event that happened last year.

Instead of Dinosaurs, Zordon chose to base these zord designs on mythical animals found in various cultures throughout human history. Kimberly will control the Firebird Zord, Billy the Unicorn Zord, Trini the Griffin Zord, Zach the Lion Zord, and Jason the Red Dragon zord. The biggest upgrade comes to Jason’s zord, which has a sub-Megazord form of its own that, while not as powerful as the 5 zords combined, is incredibly agile and better at taking on monsters in hand-to-hand combat.

Meanwhile, Jason is not doing well in the battle. The Dragonord has topped over, and is basically at the mercy of the monster which is swinging away at it. Sparks fly out of the controls in the cockpit, and Jason is realizing that the Dragonzord doesn’t have much time left. Just as he considers initiating the self-destruct sequence, he gets a message from Kimberly on his communicator to hold on a little bit longer and to “Look to the sky, you’re gonna love this”. He looks to the mountains on the edge of town, and suddenly sees five objects come over to the horizon. It’s the five zords flying together in formation, in the center being the long red dragon he knows is meant for him. Kimberly asks him if he is going to just sit there gawking all day. Jason sets the controls on the Dragonzord to go back off into the sea, and then teleports into his new cockpit.

When Jason arrives in the new cockpit, he takes notice of how much nicer it was than his last zord. The biggest improvement is the much more intuitive looking controls. Unlike the previous zords, which were designed with Eltarian technological sensibilities in mind , this makes sense the minute you look at it. Gone are the hard to decipher knobs and gauges, replaced by a sleek pilot joystick like the one found in a plane. Another big upgrade is that all the switches already come labeled in English, something that Billy spent two weeks doing by hand with a label-maker last time around. While there is a bit of a natural learning curve getting the feel of the controls, within a couple minutes Jason feels comfortable driving the flying Red Dragon.

But as fun as this is, he knows that there is work to be done, and gets to work defeating the monster. As all the zords fire on it, Billy tells Jason to press a certain button on his controls. Jason does, and immediately his zord begins transforming. He asks why no one else is transforming if he just activated the Megazord button, and Billy replies telling him that this mode is all his.

After his zord has stopped, Jason realizes that he is standing in his own full Megazord. As he takes the controls, he is amazed at how agile it is. The last megazord was like being in control of a sumo-wrestler. Powerful but slow. This is like being in control of a kickboxer. For the first time he is actually able to engage in something resembling martial arts with his zord.

But after a couple minutes of this, he knows that to really take this monster down he is going to need everyone working together, and gives the order to form the Megazord. The zord-s start coming together, and the rangers go through the familiar routine of having their cockpit chairs sucked through the back of their individual zords and carried through a series of tunnels up to the Megazord cockpit.

This is where the rangers see the biggest upgrade. Unlike the last Megazord, this cockpit is located in the middle of the cheast instead of the head. Also, this is signifigantly more roomy and gives a much better view. Unlike the last cockpit which only had two relatively narrow windows to see out of, this entire cockpit is a giant dome about 6 feet high sticking right out of the zord’s cheast.

While they would love to sit her all day and admire their new ride, the monster is still a threat, so they quickly perform their finishing move (using a new and sleeker sword) and take down the monster for good.

Later that day the teens are back at the private school assisting in the cleanup. After the events that transpired a few days ago, it has been decided that Angel Grove Private Academy needs extensive repairs and will be closed for the remainder of the school year while the school is under reconstruction. In the meantime, all of its students and faculty will be transferred to Angel Grove High.

While Trini is picking up a pile of bricks out of a garden, she runs into Adam and the two start talking about the events of the past few days. Kimberly and Billy walk up and introduce themselves to him as well. Adam comments that it’s a good thing that the Power Rangers showed up, or else who knows how many people could have gotten hurt. The others agree, and tell Adam that they will probably see him around a lot given that they will be attending the same school. Adam says he is looking forward to that. Trini, Billy, and Kimberly walk off and join up with Jason and Zach as Adam looks on. Adam turns back to his work, but you can tell by the look on his face that the seed of an idea is planted in his head.

The rangers soon settle back into a familiar routine, defeating evil one monster at a time. But while Rita’s monsters usually were pretty straightforward, Zedd’s constantly have a weird hook that always forces the Rangers to be creative when defeating them. Nontheless, they are always able to defeat them in the end. However it is much tougher work, and Jason has everyone training twice as hard to accommodate for the upgrade in difficulty.

Zedd is not too happy about this fact. He came and removed Rita because she was unable to get the job done, and now he is running into the same difficulties. This was supposed to the quick cleanup that came from firing an unreliable employee, and now the same roadblocks are standing in his way. Goldar asks Zedd how he intends to fix this problem. Zedd replies that it should be no problem, they just need a little reinforcement. And luckily, he knows exactly where to get it. He holds up a device with a screen on it revealing a tracker. Back on earth we see the tracking device itself is attached to Jason’s morpher.

A couple weeks later Zach is throwing a party at his house to give the new kids from the private school a chance to meet their new Angel Grove High classmates. The Rangers are mingling with the crowd, but mostly keeping to themselves. Rocky is also there, and has never been alone the whole night, having been constantly surrounded by friends. He finally gets a minute to himself and while he is getting a drink spies Kimberly across the room. He puts on a charming smile and walks over to her, clearly intending to try and pick her up.

She of course does not fall for it, and while you can tell he is bringing his own personal A-game, she is smart enough to know that these lines have been used on dozens of girls before her, and she isn’t going to be the next one. While she is amused by it, her patience is wearing thin and she begins to look for a way out. Jason sees what is going on from across the room and comes over, telling her he needs to talk to her. Kimberly gladly agrees and walks away, telling Rocky it was nice to meet him. Rocky looks disappointed and from the corner of the room Adam chuckles at him. Rocky asks him what he’s looking at.

Once Jason and Kimberly are off in another room, she thanks him for pulling away from that guy. She is amazed how no teenage guy seems to be able to know the difference between single and long distance relationship. Jason asks her how it is going with Tommy. She goes on for a couple of minutes about the troubles of doing things long distance, and eventually gets to the point that he is a great guy, but it isn’t getting any easier and she is beginning to wonder if it can last. She suddenly realizes that she is rambling and apologizes to Jason about going on about her problems. She comments that she wishes she could be more like him (Jason), and no matter how bad things get he always manages to stand strong and not be affected by things. He, appreciating the comment but suddenly recalling the uncomfortable memory of him allowing Tommy to lose his powers after seeing the two of them kissing, looks down and says she shouldn’t be too sure. She puts her hands on his and tells him that he has always been strong, and everyone feels lucky to have him as their leader.

He looks at her hands on his and then into her eyes, and they both start leaning in for a kiss. But just as they do, her phone goes off. She pulls back and checks it, and suddenly starts smiling. At that moment the rest of the gang walk over and ask her why she is so happy. She tells everyone that Tommy just texted her saying that he is coming back to town for good in a few days. Everyone is glad to hear the news, except for Jason who fakes a smile. As Trini and Kimberly walk off to talk about planning Tommy’s return, Zach celebrates by turning up the music. Billy sticks around and once everyone is out of earshot asks Jason if he is ok. Jason comments that its nothing, and that Billy wouldn’t understand. Jason walks away and Billy says to himself “I wouldn’t be so sure” as he looks over at Trini.

Jason suddenly isn’t in a partying mood so he ditches the party and starts walking home. He decides to take a shortcut by cutting through an dirt alley. Suddenly he finds himself face to face with over a dozen putties. He reaches for his morpher and tries to use it but it just isn’t working. Suddenly he hears a voice behind him and spins around, and sees Goldar holding a device about the size of two cellphones put together. Goldar says that his morpher, nor any electronic deivce is going to work while he is within 10 yards of Finster’s new machine. He then gives the putties the order to take him.
Jason fights them off best he can, but without morphing he can’t do much and it soon overpowered. The putties are more violent than usual, and completely beat him to the ground and continue kicking him. Jason is on the ground curled up into a ball and realizes he is beaten. He doesn’t want Lord Zedd to get a hold of the red ranger powers, so he is able to take his morpher out of his pocket, remove the two power coins from it, and bury them in the dirt under his feet. He then hits the “Distress” button on his communicator and throws it out of the crowd into the bushes, and hopes it is more than 10 yards away from Goldar. The putties beat him into unconsciousness and then pick up his body, and all of them teleport away.

The next day the Rangers have all been called to the command center. Alpha noticed that one of the distress beacons had been activated on their communicators and wanted to see if they are ok. When Jason doesn’t show up the rest of them know that something is wrong. Zach mentions that he tried texting Jason an hour ago and when he never responded he figured he had gone to bed already. They know that they need to investigate.
The gang traces the distress signal to the alley where Jason was taken. Billy; using Alpha’s tracking device discovers the communicator hidden in a bunch of bushes. Trini walks around the area and can tell by the tracks in the dirt that there were a whole crowd of people in this one area. People that left no footprints coming or going. Then she sees one footprint she recognizes right away. A distinctive three toed and claw heeled footprint belonging to one person. Goldar. Zach then sees a patch of fresh dirt about the size of his fist in the middle of the footprints. He starts digging with his hand and within a few seconds pulls out something solid; the red and green powercoins that belong to Jason.

Cut to Jason waking up in a dark prison cell. He looks around, checks to see how sturdy the bars on his cell door are, and once he sees that they are too sturdy to break checks the ones on the window as well. When he looks out the window he looks shocked. We pull back to see that he is in Lord Zedd’s castle on the moon. He hears footsteps coming down the hallway and spins around to suddenly find himself face to face with both Goldar and Lord Zedd himself.

He asks Lord Zedd what he wants from him. Lord Zedd tells him that for now he just has to sit here, but when the time is right he will have a job for him. He then tosses him his morpher. Zedd tells him that without his power coin and a disabled teleporting chip the morpher itself is useless, but Jason will need it for what he has in mind. Jason tells Zedd that he is insane if he thinks that he will every betray the rest of the rangers. Lord Zedd laughs and replies that he is being overdramatic, all he has in mind is a little errand. As Lord Zedd and Goldar walk away Jason yells after him that eventually his friends will find him here, but Zedd tells him that his friends are about to find themselves with their hands full.

Back on earth, a monster attacks. The Rangers all sprint into action. Thanks to the autopilot modifications to the new Zords they are able to defeat it with only the 4 of them, but it is more of a challenge than it should have been. Without a leader to organize the attack they aren’t much of a team.
After the monster is defeated they are all back at the command center discussing this fact. They need a leader. They need Jason. Without him they are not functioning well and are inefficient at defeating monsters. Every second longer a monster has to attack runs the risk of someone getting killed. Zordon agrees. Trini asks him then what are they supposed to do, as there are only the 4 of them now that Jason is gone. Kimberly then walks over to Jason’s two powercoins that have been sitting on the Command Center console, picks up the green one, and starts spinning it through her fingers. She then turns to Trini and replies “Not necessarily”. Cut to Tommy driving down the highway, passing a sign that says “Welcome to Angel Grove”.

A few minutes later Tommy is teleported to the command center where the rest of the rangers are waiting for him. They fill him in on what is going on and tell him their plan. Until they can track down Jason and rescue him, Tommy will be temporarily taking over the duties of Red Ranger. He of course is happy to help, and is determined to get Jason back, as he considers him one of his best friends.

Tommy settles in back at school well, and also adjusts pretty quickly to his duties as Red Ranger. Unlike Jason, who sees every flaw in battle as something to make a note of to train harder in during their off time; Tommy often likes to celebrate a victory against a monster with some smoothies at the rec center. He sees the discovery of that flaw the same as the training itself, with no need to work harder on it later.

One particularly interesting fight occurs when the Rec Center is having a day of free classes to encourage new people (specifically the prep-school kids) to join. Tommy is introducing himself to the new people he meets when he runs into Adam. They both introduce themselves to one another and Tommy mentions how he heard about him from Trini. Tommy says that all the free classes available today are great, but he recommends martial arts. Adam says he actually is pretty familiar with martial arts, and studied it for a few years before dropping it to focus on parkour. Tommy jokes with him that something like that wouldn’t be very good in a fight, and Adam replies that maybe someday hel have a chance to show him. Later, Adam asks another person there how often Tommy and his friends train in martial arts. The person mentions that those kids train almost every day for hours, even booked their own private room rather than just join a class with others. Adam looks back over to Tommy suspiciously.

Suddenly a monster attacks the rec center. Most people start fleeing, but a lot of the martial artists (including the unmorphed rangers) stay behind in an effort to defeat the monster themselves. After the monster throws a couple of them (including Rocky) around, most people take the hint to leave, but about 8 still stay; including the rangers and Adam. Tommy and Trini look on and are impressed as Adam is able to use parkour to avoid the monster and combine it with his martial arts training to get in some hits when he gets a chance. The monster still hits Adam pretty badly when he gets a good hit in, but he wasn’t bad for someone without powers. At this point Tommy knows its useless to continue fighting as civillians, so they retreat to a hallway to morph. A few seconds after they do, Tommy notices Adam standing at the end of the hallway near the door and has no clue how much he saw.
Later after the monster is defeated Tommy runs into Adam at the rec center and buys him a smoothie. Tommy isn’t quite sure how much Adam knows or saw, and needs to fish for information. They talk about how crazy it was that the monster attacked, and Tommy mentions how lucky they were that the power rangers showed up. Adam agrees that it was very lucky, and wonders how they found out so fast. Content that Adam didn’t see anything, Tommy transitions to how Adam displayed some serious skill back there, and he will never underestimate parkour again. After a couple seconds of silence, Adam suddenly blurts out that he knows that him and his friends are Power Rangers. Tommy tries to deny it, but Adam says that it is ok, and he will keep their secret.

Later, Jason is sitting in his cell when Goldar comes to bring him some food. Yay, another meal of water and some wierd meat from a small animal that probably isn’t from earth. He then notices after Goldar walks away that he forgot to lock his cell door, which is now hanging open. After waiting for Goldar to leave, Jason sneaks out. He finds his way out of the prison area and up to the throne room, where he sees Zedd and Goldar talking. They are discussing how the preparations are in place, and finally they can send the Red Ranger to collect the artifact for them. Jason sneaks away and tries to find something he can use to contact his friends.

In one room filled with scientific looking devices, he finds what appears to be a regular earth laptop. Its hooked into a bunch of weird devices that don’t look like they are from earth; but somehow it actually gets internet. He logs into skype and luckily sees that Billy is online. He starts talking to Billy, who is no doubt shocked to see him. Billy asks him where he has been and if he is ok, but Jason tells him to be quiet. Jason says he doesn’t have much time, and explains that he is being held by Lord Zedd on his castle on the moon. They want him to retrieve some artifact for them, and for some reason needs his morpher to do it. At that minute Goldar arrives in the room and shatters the computer, beats Jason down, and drags him back to his cell.

Billy brings the rest of the rangers to the command center and plays back the message to him. They all ask Zordon what they think it meant. Zordon looks horrified, and says that he never thought that this day would come. Back on Eltar, there were several magical artifacts that had been collected from across the galaxy and kept safe from those that would misuse them. However despite several safeguards the armory built to hold all these artifacts became a bulls-eye for every criminal in the universe to try and rob from. After several thieves (including Lord Zedd) came close to stealing them, it was decided that they should be hidden. Back when Zordon was trying (and failing) to convince the Government of Eltar that Earth was worthy of receiving Power Coins of it’s own, the only way he managed to gain enough support to win was to convince the Government to let him hide the artifacts away on earth. He was so careful in his hiding places and has no clue how Zedd could have found them, but it seems he finally has.

Out of the two artifacts, it is much more likely that he found the one Zordon hid deep in a cave on a remote island about 500 miles off the coast of Indonesia. This artifact was originally from a small planet called Orion and was a pedestal that contained a small pocket dimension of pure bright energy, reffered to as “The White Light of Orion”. If Zedd were to get his hands on this it would give him unstoppable power, and it is important that the Rangers go after and stop him. After being given a map showing them where they can find the cave, the Rangers are all teleported to this island and can only hope they are not too late.

Meanwhile Jason is sitting in his cell when Lord Zedd arrives with Goldar, a couple of monsters, and some putties and orders Jason be handcuffed. After they restrain him Lord Zedd stands over to him and tells him that he is finally ready to make Jason useful. They teleport away.

Jason finds himself outside of a cave on an island. Zedd tells him all about the energy in the pedestal, and how there is a hole in the top of it that is programmed to release that energy if a vessel fit to receive it is plugged in. All Jason has to do is hold Zedd’s staff over the hole and wait for the light to flow into it. Then hand that staff back to Zedd and he is free to go. Jason asks why Zedd can’t just do it himself. Zedd replies that the Eltarians in all their paranoia took special precautions to avoid such an accident. Each artifact is surrounded by a powerful force field that has the effect of sulfuric acid on skin. It will literally strip the flesh down to the muscle and mutate you horribly in seconds if you aren’t a ranger. There is a special chip inside the morpher that makes Rangers immune to these force fields. Last time Zedd tried to steal one of these artifacts on his own it didn’t end so well. Jason asks why he waited so long to try and capture the artifact if he knew where it was this whole time and Rita knew how to build morphers. Zedd laughs and replies that he had no clue where Zordon had hidden it. Did Jason really think that the tracking device was only attached to his morpher? That it was just coincidence that his cell door was left unlocked, that he overheard Zedd and Goldar talking about the plan, and that he just happened to find a laptop with access to the internet? All he had to do was plant the right seeds and let the rangers come here intending to stop him, and in the process lead him right to it. Jason looks on in horror as some of The Putties drag Jason inside.

Meanwhile the rangers have also managed to find the entrance to the caves, being guarded by two monsters. They all morph and try to fight off the monsters. As the rest of the rangers get comfortable fighting the monsters, Tommy orders the rest of them to stay here and finish off the monsters he goes inside to rescue Jason.
Meanwhile inside, they have arrived at the lowest point of the cave. In the middle of the room is a round pedestal about 3 feet across at the base and tapering slightly towards the top, which is about 4 feet high. In the center of the top is a raised area a little bigger than a dinner plate with a hole the size of a silver dollar in the center. An extremely bright white light shines from it, illuminating their surroundings enough to see. In the middle of the pedestal itself is a strange symbol. Spinning around the pedestal is faint but noticeable energy, rotating around it quickly while occasionally sending off small jolts of electricity like tiny bolts of lightning.

Zedd hands Jason his staff while Goldar points some alien gun at him, and tells him to get it over with. Slowly Jason walks towards the pedestal and approaches the force field. He walks through it, and although it is tingly he is unharmed. Suddenly he decides to make his move. He uses the corner of the staff to hook a putty and drag him into the forcefield, disintegrating it immediately. He starts fighting them off, knocking two more into the forcefield, killing them as well. The cave starts shaking and vibrating, as rocks starts to falls from the ceiling. Jason tells Zedd that he would rather die than see someone like him get that much power. Goldar replies that this can be arranged as he aims the gun at Jason.

Suddenly Tommy (as the Red Ranger) shows up and kicks Goldar, putting him off-balance and giving Jason the opportunity to dodge the shot. Another putty is knocked into the force field, making the cave shake even more violently and knocking everyone to their feet. Tommy de-morphs and reaches down to take out his power coin. He hands it to Jason and tells him to get out of there, that the other rangers need his help outside. Jason asks Tommy what about him, but Tommy tells him that he’ll hold off the rest in the cave, and that the Rangers need their leader. Jason grips Tommy’s shoulder in a gesture of thanks before getting to his feet and running outside, putting his coin in his morpher as he goes. As he reaches the outside he morphs into the Red Ranger again, but something is wrong. He no longer has the Dragonshied. He looks at the morpher again and sees that the two power-coins are no longer fused together.

Back in the cave, the place is still shaking and looks on the verge of imminent collapse. The pedestal is growing increasingly unstable, and starts to glow as bursts of energy start coming off of it. Goldar suggests to Lord Zedd that they make their escape, and Zedd agrees as they teleport away. Tommy is still fighting off putties with his morpher in hand, and in his anger tackles one right though the force field and watches it turn to dust as they land on the unstable pedestal. He doesn’t notice that the hand holding the morpher lands right on the center of the pedestal, the coin resting directly over the hole. Suddenly there is a huge flash of white light.

Outside, the rangers finish off the two monsters. Kimberly asks Jason where Tommy is. Jason says how Tommy stayed behind to let Jason escape. They all start running to the mouth of the cave as a huge flash of white light followed by an explosion comes out of the cave. Kimberly tries to run in anyway but the rest of the rangers hold her back. She breaks free runs toward the cave anyway, the rest of the rangers after her.

Before she can enter, a figure wanders out of the cave. Tommy. Dressed all in white, the energy from the pedestal has recharged his power coin turning him into the white ranger. His helmet is recogizeably a recolored version of the green ranger’s, and what was once the Dragonshield has been reformed into a black and gold piece of streamlined armor that covers the upper part of his chest while leaving his torso bare. His boots and gloves now are covered with gold diamonds instead of green, and they are topped by golden cuffs. The footprint image that once covered his power coin has been erased, and now bears the strange symbol present on the pedestal itself.

The other Rangers are standing around in awe admiring him when suddenly a giant bolt of white energy shoots out from his powercoin and makes a tree explode. The others decide that its time to get home.

Back at the command center, Zordon informs them of what they have already figured out. That the White Light of Orion did indeed recharge the green powercoin, and that there was more than enough energy to make the powers last indefinatly. In fact if anything the coin is overcharged, which is why the beam of white energy shot out from it. But this might actually be a good thing, as they can syphon off the excess energy and use it to power the construction of a new zord. Alpha says that he will get on designing it right away. Jason also asks Zordon what the status is of the other artifact hidden on Earth. Zordon replies that given how the last day played out, it is probably best if he keeps that information a secret from now on.

Over the next few days, the team is ecstatic over having Tommy back. He is also given a zord of his own, the tigerzord, which aids in the ranger’s fight. This Zord has its own warrior mode much like Jason’s and can also combine with the other zords to form its own incredibly powerful megazord.
However once the honeymoon period of having Tommy back wears off, something seems off to Jason. He notices whenever he gives a command, Kimberly looks over to Tommy for a small nod of approval before she acts. Tommy also begins to suggest that they occasionally skip their training, which the rest of the team gets behind, giving Jason no choice than to approve. Within a couple weeks, Billy is also looking to Tommy for approval on Jason’s commands. This makes Jason pretty mad. Its easy for Tommy to come in and say that they have been doing great and deserve some time off. He never saw them in their beginnings. Back before they were a cohesive team and when Billy and Kimberly could barely hold their own in a fight. Even today with all their improvements there are still some occasional mistakes that they make in combat that could conceivably get them killed if a smart enough monster knows how to take advantage of it. Its always easy to make the popular choice, but that doesn’t always make it the right one. And a real leader always has to make that tough call if needed.

One day in a fight, Jason figures that Trini is capable enough to hold her own and does not watch her back. A monster takes advantage of this and nearly strikes her down, leaving Tommy to run in and save her. After this, she seems to be paying more attention to Tommy’s thoughts as well.
In addition, the team seems more ready to form the Megazord with Tommy’s zord rather than Jason’s under the pretense that the megazord in that configuration is more powerful.

Then one day Zordon calls them all to the command center and says that it is time for them to make a very important decision. Ever since the first artifact almost fell into the hands of Lord Zedd, he thought initially that keeping the location of the other artifact secret would protect it. But after thinking it over, maybe it isn’t the best idea. Zedd is a smart adversary, and it may only be a matter of time before he finds a way to discover its location. If the rangers recover it, it will guarantee that it does not fall into his hands.

However the circumstances behind its hiding make this potentially the most dangerous mission that the rangers have ever undertaken. The second artifact; “The Zeo Crystal” is an ancient power source whose creation predates known historical records. It is essentially a perpetual energy machine, which seems to contain an unlimited amount of power.

When discovered by Eltarian scientists, they discovered that the crystal is actually a link to another dimension of pure energy. These scientists were eventually able to recreate this dimensional link artificially, which came to form the basis for the ranger powers.

When it was taken to earth, Zordon chose to hide it in a place where he thought no evil would ever look for it. When Rita was constructing her castle, he snuck in disguised as a putty and hid the crystal in the foundation for the castle itself. This means in order to retrieve it, the rangers would have to teleport to the moon, sneak into the tunnels below the castle, dig it out of the floor, and then sneak out without being detected.
Jason thinks that given what Lord Zedd would be capable of if he captured the crystal, they should go for it. Tommy agrees. The rest of the rangers also agree after Tommy, much to the annoyance of Jason. But in order to do this, they are going to have to plan it out.

Over the next day they put a plan together. Flying a zord there is one possible option, but it could easily draw too much attention. It is also way beyond the range of teleportation, so a new way will have to be found. Alpha and Billy construct a much more powerful version of the teleporter; a non-portable large pod. Basically you stand in the pod, which resembles a small circular room with glass walls, and it fills up with energy. You program the pod to send you wherever it is you want to go beforehand. You can also program it to teleport whatever you want from pre-set coordinates back to it, which they will use to get back after The Zeo Crystal is recovered. After they arrive they will sneak into the base of the castle through a small access shaft and follow the tunnels into the castle to where the crystal is buried. After they recover it they will sneak back out the way they came and get teleported back. Once they are back with the crystal, they will use the crystal’s own energy to power the pod into sending it somewhere far outside of Zedd’s reach.

The time comes to execute the plan, and the ranger’s morph and get into the pod. Slowly it gets brighter and brighter inside until they hear a loud “cracking” sound like lightning and find themselves on the surface of the moon about ¼ mile away from the castle. Just like they planned, there is a small access hatch at the base of the capsule that they all use to climb inside into the tunnels at its base. They follow a map that Zordon gave them through the maze of dark hallways. The whole way there, Jason notices Tommy subconsciously drifting ahead of him and towards the lead of the group.

Finally they arrive at the right location. Tommy and Jason both take out their sowards and start hacking into the wall. Suddenly they hit something bright which illuminates the tunnel, and put away their swords and start digging with their hands. Finally it is free and Jason pulls out the Zeo crystal from the wall. It is about a foot and a half in length, and curves downward in a roughly triangular shape towards a point at the bottom. Looking from the top, there is a cross section of 6 shapes; a star, a square, a triangle, a “=” sign, circle, and some weird shape that resembles two “E”s back to back. In the darkness you can see that it is illuminating a golden light. After the team takes a couple of seconds to admire it, Jason shoves it into a sack and tells them that they really need to get out of here.

But they have spoken too soon. As the team turns to leave the see a big group of putties coming right for them.

The rangers manage to fight off the putties, but during the fight a putty manages to briefly grab the Zeo Crystal, causing an explosion of energy which destroys the putty and makes part of the tunnel cave in right above Kimberly’s head. Zach pushes her out of the way just in time, but gets himself trapped in the tunnel behind a giant pile of rubble. The pile is too big to clear, but a small opening lets the rangers communicate with one another. Jason yells directions to Zach that will enable him to go around and meet up with the other rangers and get out the way that they came in. Tommy disagrees, and yells to Zach that it would be safer to go for another access hatch closer to him, as it means less time in the tunnels. Jason turns to Tommy and tells him he is wrong, as if Zach is ambushed he will have no backup. But Tommy replies that this way they all have a smaller chance of getting caught, and will allow Zach to ultimately escape faster. You can tell Jason still disagrees, but there is no time to argue. He yells to Zach that whatever he decides to do, to do it fast, as that explosion is sure to draw the attention of someone.

As the other rangers set out the way they came in, Zach makes his way down the tunnels towards freedom. He gets to a crossroads and stands there for a second deciding which way to go. Loop around and hook up with the other rangers? Or go straight for the nearest exit? After weighing his options, Zach choses to go with Tommy’s plan. He heads down the corridor that will eventually lead him to an access hatch. As he jogs down the tunnel he turns a corner and suddenly finds himself face to face with Lord Zedd.
He turns to run away, but finds putties blocking his way. He starts fighting them off with everything he has, but eventually they overpower him and hold him down on his knees. Lord Zedd walks towards him slowly while laughing, and tells him that when Jason was captured, he always was tempted to end his life right then and there but had to use restraint. After the way that situation ended, he will not make that mistake again. He holds up his staff to Zach, and unloads starts shooting electricity right into him.

Meanwhile the other rangers are out of the castle and at the point where they are supposed to be teleported away. They get on the communicator with Alpha and tell him to wait just a minute longer, as Zach still hasn’t caught up with them. Suddenly in a flash of green fire, Zach is teleported right at their feet. He is laying on the ground, his costume badly burned and barely moving. Billy yells for Alpha to teleport them now.
Back in the command center, the rangers pull Zach out of the pod and lay him on the ground. Jason holds him up and takes off his helmet. Zach’s face is burned in spots and he looks distant and unable to focus on anything. He is breathing heavily and quietly mumbling to himself. Jason while choking up, tells Zach to hang on and they’ll get him to a hospital. Zach looks at Jason and quietly says that he is sorry he didn’t listen. Jason (not understanding him) tells him its ok, and just to hang on a little bit longer. But it is too late. The heavy breathing suddenly stops, and his eyes grow distant. Suddenly he demorphs on his own, and the morpher; without a living host to bond with, slips off his torso and falls on the ground.

Jason immediately demorphs and teleports Zach into the nearest emergency room. Luckily he ends up in an empty patient room. The rest of the rangers decide to be safe by teleporting into the parking lot, and spend the next few minutes trying to find Jason. When they finally do, they see he is in tears, as he has been informed that Zach was unable to be revived. The doctor’s all say that an electrical shock caused a massive heart attack which killed him. Unable to tell them the truth, all Jason can say was that they were hiking in the desert when he was struck by lightning. After making sure Jason gets home ok, the rest of the team teleports back to the command center to deal with the crystal.

Tommy breaks up the crystal into the individual six cross-sections of shapes and Billy places them in the teleportation pod. Zordon has Billy program the pod to use the crystal’s energy to teleport them to another dimension where they will be safe from Lord Zedd. After it is done, Trini sees the Mastadon Power Morpher sitting on the ground and picks it up and places it on the command center console. The rest of the team gathers up and stands there silently staring at it.

You have done a great job with your version of PR. I like the tension between Jason and Tommy. I have never been a Tommy fan so I like this. I will hate the post when leadership will change but it really drives the narrative. R.I.P Zach Taylor

Season 2 Part 3 of 4

Over the next few days the gang recovers from the previous events. Jason especially has been having a hard time getting over it, so the other rangers agree to give him a couple weeks off to clear his head. In the meantime, Tommy once again steps up to fill the leadership position. The four rangers are able to pull the slack pretty well for a while, but it is still pretty difficult.
Tommy gathers them all at the command center for a meeting. It’s time for them to face a hard reality. Zach was an invaluable member of the team and a great friend to them all. But even when Jason comes back its going to be a daily challenge to fill the hole left by a missing member of an already small team. And that is why they need to have a very important discussion about whether or not they should find a new black ranger. After a bit of discussion, everyone agrees that it is ultimately a good idea.

Even considering what Jason is going through, Tommy knows he wouldn’t want to be left out of this decision, so he goes to his house to talk to him. He finds Jason out on his back porch staring off into space. Tommy sits down next to him and begins to carefully explains the situation. Jason seems like he is not paying attention, instead interrupting Tommy to tell a story about how him and Zach both met when they were 8. Tommy realizes that this may not be the right time to ask and gets up to leave but Jason stops him, and tells him that sometime in the next few days there is something that the two of them should talk about.

Jason may not be ready to deal with this issue but that doesn’t mean the world will stop for him to be ready. The constant onslaught by Zedd’s monsters is continuing to put the rangers under strain, and it’s time to make a decision. After a battle, Tommy gathers them all in the command center and decide that it is time to press ahead with passing on the title of black ranger. And he thinks he has just the guy for the job.
Adam is sitting in the rec center having a soda and reading a book when Tommy approaches him and sits down, telling him that he needs to talk to him.

Tommy brings Adam outside and tells him to close his eyes, as the first time he does this can be a little disorienting. Suddenly they are both teleported away and Adam finds himself in the command center surrounded by the other rangers. Adam looks up and sees Zordon looking at him. Zordon begins to talk and asks him if he swears to fight only for the forces of good, to never hesitate in his fight against evil, and to only use his power responsibly. He does, and then Zordon smiles and welcomes him as the new black ranger. Tommy hands him his morpher and Billy gives him his communicator. The rest of the rangers smile and pat him on the back as Kimberly breaks out some snacks. Overall it is a bittersweet occasion as none of them can forget the circumstances that led them here but are still happy to welcome a new friend to the team.

Adam settles into the team pretty quickly. Billy starts training him in the Zord simulator while Trini starts tutoring him in Karate. Still, he is more experienced than Billy and Kimberly were when they started as rangers, so it’s much easier than bringing someone in from scratch. In his first monster battle he actually does ok.

A few days after the transition, Tommy is sitting at home when Jason comes over, looking a lot better. He tells Tommy that he was a wreck for a few days but he realized that in the end Zach would have wanted him to carry on, so that is what he is trying to do. After a certain point, time off doesn’t help anymore, and it’s time to get back to work. As their leader, the rest of the rangers need him. But there is a matter which him and Tommy do need to talk about.

For the past couple months, Jason’s parents have become increasingly scared that Angel Grove isn’t safe anymore. They have been worried for the well-being of their family, and Zach’s death was the final straw. They have decided that next month, they are going to move to San Diego. Their house has already been sold, and the decision is final.

Tommy is taken back by this, as the rangers can’t lose two members so quickly. The rangers need their leader. After talking to his parents, Tommy tells Jason that his parents have agreed to take Jason in for the rest of the school year. Jason is profoundly thankful to Tommy for this, telling him that he really is a true friend. Tommy tells him that he has something else he should know, and tells him about Adam.

Jason arrives back at the command center and is welcomed by the rest of the rangers, including Adam. Jason introduces himself to him and is very friendly, but is secretly kind of pissed off. He is angry that Tommy went and made such a huge decision without him, and feels that passing on the black ranger powers within a couple weeks of Zach dying dishonors his memory. But considering the huge favor that Tommy just did for him, he is content to keep these feelings to himself. After all, Adam seems like a nice enough guy.
Meanwhile over the course of the past few weeks Rocky has been nearly obsessed with the power rangers. Specifically, a lot of that interest has been channeled into finding out who the rangers are. He’s gone to the lengths of even paying two lowlifes at school (Bulk and Skull) to investigate the matter. However after the two of them fail to turn up any solid information (despite some claims to having proof which always mysteriously vanishes before they can show him) he cuts them off. Now he has a new plan.

The next day the rangers are all fighting a monster they get caught off guard and it hits them with a blast that knocks them all to the ground. Suddenly a laser blast comes from behind them and hits the monster. The rangers all turn around and to their shock, see someone in an Orange Ranger costume standing behind them. He tells them that he is the Orange Ranger, and is here to help them clean up the city. The monster is not pleased at this, and hits him back. It is a relatively light hit, but it is enough to send him flying into a wall, breaking a large crack in his helmet and ripping up his costume. Adam runs over to make sure he is ok, and is shocked to see that it is Rocky in the costume. He helps get Rocky to safety and then goes back to help the other rangers defeat the monster.

Unfortunately, a civilian was filming the whole incident on their phone and uploads it to the internet. “Poser Power Ranger Gets Owned” is making the rounds on YouTube. Luckily for Rocky’s sake, the picture quality is bad enough that no one knows who he is.

The next day at school, Adam approaches Rocky at his locker. Rocky sarcastically asks him if he is here to give him another lecture on school pride. Adam angrily replies that he knows Rocky is the Orange Ranger from the video. Rocky asks him how, and Adam says that he has his ways. He then tells him that what he did was idiotic and he could have gotten himself killed. Rocky replies that he knew the danger, but ever since the private school got blown up he has had this compulsion to help in the fight. What gives the Power Rangers any more right than anyone else to do their part. Adam says that unlike him, the Rangers know what they are doing and didn’t get their outfits from a costume shop. Rocky corrects him that he actually bought it on EBay. Rocky turns away and tells him that someone like Adam would have no idea, as he is comfortable watching from the sidelines; just like everything else in his life. Adam chuckles at this, and walks away, yelling behind him that Rocky is going to get himself killed. Rocky turns towards Adam and sees him meeting up with the rest of the rangers. Rocky sees the teens walking down the school hallway talking and laughing, and notices all how they are all wearing six different colors. Suddenly Rocky’s eyes widen and you can the truth has hit him.

A few days later the rangers are fighting one of their toughest opponents yet. A monster which is able to shape-shift into humans. During the fight, it is enjoying screwing with the rangers by changing itself to look like them. Jason is clearly aggravated by it (compounded by the fact that the other rangers are clearly taking their lead from Tommy) and goes up to strike the monster with his sword; when suddenly the monster drops to his knees and shape shifts into the black ranger, pleading for its life in Zach’s voice. Jason hesitates and the monster uses the opportunity to knock Jason on his back. The monster asks him what the problem was. Can’t stand to hear a monster plead for its life the same way his friend did when Lord Zedd killed him? Such a shame too, so close to freedom when it happened. Only 20 yards away from the access hatch that would have led him to freedom.

Suddenly the truth hits Jason. The only reason Zach was killed was that he chose to ignore Jason and went with Tommy’s escape plan. He is enraged by this news, and takes it out on the monster, swinging his sword at it like he is beating a rug. The monster tries to escape by growing, but Jason brings the same level of anger to his fighting in the zords. It is a particularly brutal zord battle, with Jason barking out orders at the other rangers and pushing the megazord to its limits. At one point he even has the megazord pick up the monster and throw it, almost hitting Tommy’s zord in the process. Tommy asks Jason what he is doing; but Jason ignores Tommy and continues to beat the monster. When the rangers finally defeat the monster with its finishing move, it is particularly brutal, and the monster goes down in a bigger and more fiery explosion than normal.

In the late afternoon, Jason texts Tommy and asks him to meet him in the park. Tommy shows up and tells Jason that he is late for meeting Adam to practice karate at the rec center, and after that he’s meeting up with Kimberly. Jason angrily replies that everybody just loves Tommy. Always making the popular decision. Tommy asks him what is wrong. Jason replies that the only reason Zach died was because he listened to him. But its more than that. Ever since Tommy came back no one is even listening to him anymore. He always makes decisions based on what people want to hear, never considering the consequences. Tommy puts his hand on Jason’s shoulder and tells him to calm down. Jason punches Tommy in the face, sending him spinning down to the ground.

Jason jumps on top of Tommy and starts pummeling him again and again. Tommy tries to block it, but Jason’s punches keep making Tommy see stars and the next punch comes before he can collect himself. Right as he thinks he is about to go unconscious, Tommy calls out for his power sword and holds it in front of his face to replace himself. One of Jason’s punches comes down right on it, leaving a large gash on his arm. Jason jumps up and angrily stares at the wound. Tommy tries to talk Jason down and tell him that they should talk about this, but he realizes it is too late for that, and that by summoning the sword all he has done is escalate the situation.

Now enraged, Jason grabs his morpher and morphs into the red ranger. As Jason comes charging for him, Tommy realizes he needs to defend himself and morphs into the white ranger. Jason and Tommy fight furiously, with Jason putting everything he has into hitting Tommy, and Tommy just trying to get Jason into a position where he can’t fight anymore. Tommy gets a lucky hit in where he is able to kick Jason in the gut, but Jason responds by summoning his Power Sword and going for Tommy’s torso. Tommy summons his own sword and the two duel. Jason eventually sees his opening and hits Tommy across his chest, sending sparks flying and causing Tommy to spin in the air, drop his sword, and land on his back, his helmet visor broken. Jason gets back on top of him and raises the power sword, ready to strike. But at the last second he looks Tommy in the eyes through his broken visor and drops his power sword. He climbs off of Tommy and demorps. Tommy wearily gets too his feet and demorphs as well. As Jason backs away Tommy yells after him that whatever problems Jason has with him and with Zach dying, he needs to get over it, as the rangers need their leader. Jason screams that the rangers already have one, and runs off.

The next day Tommy goes to Jason’s house hoping to try and talk some sense into him. Tommy has decided that these problems are obviously pretty severe, and the rangers can’t function while these problems exist. And if fixing them means Tommy stepping down as a ranger, then so be it. Tommy arrives at Jason’s house and knocks on the door. When the knocking doesn’t get a response he opens the door and peeks in. All the furniture is gone. Jason’s parents moved away this morning, and Jason went with them. The only thing left behind is the red Power Morpher and communicator, lying in the center of the living room.

Tommy summons all the rangers to the command center and fills them in. He leaves out the part about the fight, as he doesn’t want to ruin everyone’s opinion of Jason. Tommy tells them all that Jason couldn’t get over Zach’s death, and he has decided to step down. The rest of the rangers can’t believe it, but when Tommy puts the communicator and morpher down on the console, they realize that it is true. Zordon names Tommy the new official leader of the Power Rangers, and tells them that if there is one thing that Zach taught them, it is that they need a complete team. The next step is picking out a new red ranger.

What no one knows is that a few days earlier, Rocky planted a tracking chip behind Adam’s cell phone case while he was exercising at the rec center. Now, Rocky goes back to retrieve the chip during Adam’s gym class. He takes the chip home to analyze the data on it. Mostly it is just the typical stuff. Home, school, rec center, etc. But something is really off. Two or three times every day, the tracker places Adam’s location way out in the desert. And he doesn’t seem to take any roads there. Just a straight line of travel. Rocky plugs the coordinates into Google Earth but for about 5 square miles all he sees is a blurry photo too grainy to make anything out. And when he does some research on the location, he finds that it is a section of desert about 30 miles outside of the Angel Grove city limits officially set aside by the government as a nature preserve.

The next day Rocky decides to investigate. He rents a GPS and a dune buggy and drives off into the desert. When he gets about a mile from where he wants to go, the GPS starts malfunctioning. He pulls out a paper map and a compass, but the compass also is spinning erratically and can’t seem to focus on one location. He knows for sure that something is up, and decides to just follow the horizon in the same direction he was going before.
As the sun starts to set he arrives at the location. On top of a mountain flanked by two long jagged outcrops rests a squat, cylindrical building with a large tube going down the center and two archways that wrap around the building like wings. Rocky has arrived at the command center.

Rocky walks up the hill to the building and goes to the end of one of the archways where he sees a large, steel door. He manages to pry it open with some effort and walk inside to a dark hallway with minimal lighting. The round hallway leads around to the back where a barely visible door in the wall opens up. He finds himself in the command center. Zordon and Alpha are shut down for the night, which gives the place an eerie feeling. He takes notice of everything in the room, from the zord-simulator in one corner to the teleportation pod in the other. He slowly walks towards the console and puts his hands on the counter.

He reaches his hands out to one of the buttons when suddenly red and white strobe flashes start going off and a loud alarm sounds. Suddenly he looks around and sees the five morphed. power rangers teleport in around him and start walking towards him. The Black Ranger pulls out his laser gun and sets it to stun. Before he can fire, Rocky puts out his hands and says “Adam, wait!”. Adam fires, knocking Rocky unconscious.

Rocky awakes in some back room in the command center, with two chairs at opposite end of a metal table. Rocky is sitting in one of those chairs. There is no handle on the door, and Rocky finds that he is locked in.

The other rangers are in the command center talking with Zordon about what they should do about this situation. Adam points out that he knows who he is, which means he also probably knows who the other rangers are too. And he managed to find his way here, and it’s not like they can make him forget it.

Adam walks into the room that Rocky is in and sits down in the chair opposite him, and just stares at him quietly. Rocky (clearly scared) tells him that he won’t tell his or the other rangers secret. His curiosity just got the better of him. The other rangers walk in the room and join Adam in staring at him quietly, looking pissed off. He pleads with them that now that he knows their secret, he can lend a hand. Be their helper or a spy or something.

Adam tells him to get up and follow him. They lead him into the command center and introduce him to Zordon. Zordon makes him swear an oath to only fight for good and never reveal the identities of the power rangers. Rocky, still not sure what to make of all this, asks them what happens now. Is he their assistant now? The rest of the rangers don’t say anything and walk out the door. Adam angrily tells him not to make them regret this. Rocky asks him “Regret what?”. Adam just ignores him and slams something into his chest, as he walks out. Adam turns around when he reaches the door and dangles a communicator, telling him he'l leave it in his locker tomorrow, but in the mean-time he can find his own way home. Rocky looks down at the object in his hands that Adam gave him. He spins it around to see that it is the Red Power morpher.

Once again another awesome installment. I was wondering when the tension between Jason and Tommy would reach it breaking point. The fight scene was well executed. The only nagging part for me is, shouldn't Zordon have intervene as both rangers used their powers for personal use?

I like the change in personalities for Adam and Rocky. I am very curious to see how season 2 concludes...hopefully soon but I know this a huge task and it takes great amount of effort and thank you for sharing your creative vision.

Thanks man. That means alot to me.

Yea, when I started this thing I had no clue how much work it was going to be. Crafting the main story was easy. I wrote out a master list for the plot bulletpoints up through the end of the series (5 whole seasons) on a couple pieces of notebook paper in only an hour or so.

The trick is those little plot details that tie the bulletpoints together and ultimatly determine weather or not the story makes sense. Details which the original series often didn't address, but in my more realistic story I wanted to. I have literally spent months working out certain details (hense the huge delay last summer).

For example much of the huge delay that came between parts one and two of season 2 came about because I couldn't work out how Zordon and Alpha would have the ability to create a new set of zords that didn't allow them to create an infinite amount of new zords, or why Lord Zedd seemed to wait for those zords to be ready.

Luckily though, Season 2 is already almost done, and should be posted within a few days. Im aiming for Tuesday.

As for your comment about Zordon not intervening in the Jason/Tommy fight. I asked myself the same question but ultimatly came to the simple conclusion that Zordon is not omnipotent. Yes he can view what is happening pretty much everywhere he wants to, but he still needs to look there first. If he had seen what was happening he definatly would have stepped in, but he had no reasons to stalk the rangers during thier time off.

And yea, the big fight between Jason and Tommy is definatly one of the highlights I was looking forward to writing. The bad news is that Jason will not be coming back for Zeo. Ive got another story in mind for the Gold Ranger that I think is pretty cool. Plus given Jason's current mood I doubt he would come back so soon anyway. The good news is that Jason will return eventually. And if you liked the tension between him and Tommy so far, you haven't seen anything yet!

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. Just thought I owed whoever was reading this an explanation.

Unfortunately my laptop crapped out a few weeks ago. I accidentally spilled a bottle of water on it and the thing was toast. I freaked out at first thinking that the whole story was gone, but luckily a friend of mine was able to salvage the data. As soon as I can afford a new laptop, the ending of Season 2 will be posted.

sure its dead? my cat spilled my beer on my laptop a few months ago by jumping across the table as I was using it. At first I thought the same thing wasn't working. but after a few days it worked and I had to use a usb keyboard. Then after a few more days all was well when the insides were all the way dry.

Yea, unfortunately it is pretty dead. My computer savvy friend confirmed it. He was barely able to get data off of it.

The good news is that I just ordered a new laptop, so as soon as it arrives I can post the completed second season.

Sorry for the delay guys. Its been a crazy couple months. I would get into it, but you guys probably aren't interested in excuses. It was sort of a rush job, as I typed whenever I had a few minutes of free time at work. Anyway, here is the finale of Season 2!

Season 2 Conclusion

Over the next couple of weeks the team attempts to get Rocky up to speed by giving him a crash course in being a Ranger. And in the beginning it is pretty rough. He is clumsy in battle against monsters, can't drive his zord to save his life, and comes off as abrasive to the other Rangers. The way he doesn't show discipline with the super strength he posesses while morphed reminds all the rangers of thier first fight. During one battle he immediatly summons his zord on the first sight of a monster to squish it before it has a chance to grow. During another, he accidently steps on his own morpher after dropping it, requiring Alpha to build him a new one.

It gets to the point where Adam goes to Tommy for a discussion about removing him from his ranger duties. Adam goes to the command center one afternoon to share these feelings with Zordon and Alpha. However when he gets there, he sees Rocky training in the zord simulator with Alpha. And to his suprise, he seems to be making progress. Alpha tells Adam that Rocky has been here every night for the past week. Adam, impressed by Rocky's determination decides to pospone any decsions to remove him from the team.

But as Rocky improves and things look better for the Rangers; things are looking more desperate for Lord Zedd. He calls a meeting between himself, Goldar and Finster. He is clearly furious and at his wits end. This was supposed to be a cleanup mission to fix Rita's incompetance, and complete a mission that was already supposed to be easy. Not only has he failed to get the job done, but the rangers seem to have come together stronger as a team while Zedd has fallen back into Rita's bad habbits of repetitivly sending monsters after the team. What he needs is some creativity; a fresh set of eyes to change things up. As he says this, he notices Finster looking around uncomfortably. Zedd orders him to spit out what he is thinking. Finster nervously replies that he has a fresh set of eyes, but Lord Zedd its going to make Lord Zedd very angry. Lord Zedd then tells him that if he doesn't spit it out, he is going to be even angrier.

The threee go to Finster's lab and watch him take out a container stored behind a hidden panel on a shelf. Then he opens the container and pulls out one of his clay monster figures. Zedd peers closer and notices that it is not actually a clay monster, but actually the frozen and shrunken Rita Repulsa.

Zedd is furious and holds his staff over Finster telling him to explain himself. Finster tells him that Rita alwaya had a fear that Lord Zedd would come to userp her position, so she had this contingency in place just incase. After Lord Zedd shrunk her, Finster switched out the real Rita for one of his clay models, which is what Lord Zedd actually sent into the sun. Finster then tells him that it is a new set of eyes, and perhaps bringing her back will bring some new ideas to the table. Zedd is obviously still furious but can't deny the logic in the plan, telling Finster to prepare the Monster Machine to bring her back. However beore he leaves, he leans in close to Finster and tells him that the next time he chooses loyalty to someone else over him, he should remember who he was before Lord Zedd found him.

The proceedure is successful, and Rita is ressurected back to her normal size. Any respect she had for Lord Zedd is completly overwhelmed by her anger, and she charges at him. However he quickly puts her in her place with a bolt of lightning with his staff. She yelols out that when she was small, she was completly conscious, but unable to move at all. It was unimagineable hell for the entire year. Zedd replies that this is a chance to redeem herself. He needs someone to come up with a plan to defeat the rangers, and since she is the only one that has ever come close, he needs her help. She scoffs at him, replying that he has failed just as much as she had. He tells her that if she prefers being shunken back down, that can also be arranged. Realizing there is no way out here that would put her on top, she tells him that she did have alot of time to think while frozen, and she has the beginnings of a pretty interesting plan. But it will be one that keeps Finster busy for awhile.

A few days later, the Rangers are at the rec center, relaxing outside on the porch while having a drink. They are enjoying thier free time and all seem to be getting along well. Even Adam and Rocky are being pretty friendly. Kimberly and Trini remark that it is wierd that the last few days have been so quiet. Maybe they are actually starting to wear Zedd down. Billy laughs and says that it would be fun if that were true. Suddenly Adam notices that the liquid in his drink is rippling, and there is a increaingly noticeable shaking in the ground. Suddenly a building near the edge of town explodes. As the Rangers look toward the explosion, they see something that causes them to freeze up. Standing there on the edge of town is a new Zord. The Zord has a wide, boxy frame to it, and looks almost as if it is wearing Samurai armor. As the robot walks every closer to the main area of the city, the rangers retreat to the privacy of an alleyway where they can morph and summon thier zords.

They form the megazord and it engages Zedd's zord in battle. And it is no contest at all. Zedd's zord completly wipes the floor with the Thunder megazord, Zedd's zord shrugs off the Megzord's hits and even its finishing move. It knocks the megazord and the Tigerzord down and starts swinging away with its sword repeatedly, until critical damage alarms start going off. The rangers immediatly order thier zords back to the safety of thier storage bay. The rangers stand in the shadow of this terrifying robot and prepare for the worst. But instead the zord stops attacking, and a PA system starts playing. The rangers instantly recognize it as Lord Zedd's voice. He greets the Rangers, and asks them how he likes his new toy, the "Shogun Megazord". Goldar has been kind enough to help him drive it. He has been studying all the rangers zord battles against his monsters, and has a pretty good idea of the specs for the Thundermegazord. This Zord trumps it in every way. Already the Zord is pretty heavily damaged, and he could destroy it now if he wanted to. But instead he is open to a bargain. He is giving them one day. Surrendur thier power coins to him, or else he destroys the Zord along with the rest of Angel Grove. 23 Hours and 59 minutes to go, so they better decide fast. Then in a giant flash of lightning the Zord dissapears, as it is teleported back to the moon.

The Rangers retreat back to the command center to discuss the current events. They look on the viewing globe to find that tv stations are already calling for the rangers to turn themselves in, as any attempt to fight back would overall be dangerous for the city. They are very resistant to the idea, as it means essentially surrenduring the earth to Zedd. On the other hand, thier Zord is terribly outmatched (Alpha estimates that it will take days to repair) and they could be respobsible for the destruction of Angel Grove should they fail. They all seem to be stumped, as they can see both sides of the issue and both likely result in disaster. Then Rocky turns to the rest and asks "Why can't we just steal the zord?".

Over the next hour they work out a plan. They will use the long range teleportation pad to teleport themselves to the moon. The Zord is too big to be located anywhere inside the castle, so it is likely that Zedd has it parked outside somewhere. There should be an access hatch somwhere along the base of the zord, so all they have to do is get in, take the controls, and pilot it back to earth. Once there they will have the firepower to defeat any monsters that Zedd throws at them.

All of the rangers morph and walk onto the pad. All conscious of the result the last time they went after Zedd on his turf, Tommy brings them in for a huddle and tells them that they will all stay together the whole way through, and it things at any point look hairy, Alpha is going to be standing by ready to teleport them back at a moment's notice. Alpha activates the padd, sending them on thier way.

They arrive in the shade of a small rock outcrop about 1/4 of a mile away from Zedd's palace. Sure enough the Zord is parked outside, standing a couple hundred meters from the palace, an ominous and imposing statue even as it stands lifeless. Carefully the rangers head towards it. As they get close, they see that 50 putties are standing in a circle around the zord standing guard. Billy remarks that this is the largest group of putties that they have ever taken on. Tommy reassures them and tells them that they are going to have to be ready for it.

The rangers charge the putties, weapons out and ready to fight. It is a brutal yet efficient battle, with the rangers calling upon all thier skill to do awy with the putties before any alarm is raised. Within a couple minutes they have all been dealt with, and the rangers proceed to the Zord. Billy finds an access hatch along the Zord's foot, and uses his blaster to get it open. The rangers get inside and climb up a ladder through the leg, into the cheast, and finally reach the main control room. Unlike thier previous zords, this control room has no chairs, but rather has the operators stand at thier control station, which consists of two joysticks and a touchpad for controlling the rest of the Zord's functions. Trini and Billy are able to find a way to start it up easily enough, and begin by testing how to walk it. It is an easy enough control design, and the Rangers are able to figure out how to pilot it pretty easily.

But just as they are getting the hang of it, they see a full grown monster charging right towards them. They quickly realize that word must have gotten back to Zedd, and he has dispatched a monster after them. Luckily they are already comfortable with the controls, and are able to make short work of the monster before activating the zord's flight function and piloting it back to earth.

Over the next couple of weeks, the rangers engage in a few Zord battles and get better and better at controlling thier new Shogun Megazord. Becuase of the power upgrades from thier old megazord, defeating monsters has been relativly easy. With the good way that things have been going lately, the rangers start discussing that now that the other two Thunderzords are almost repaired, and with this new addition to thier arsenal, it might be time to consider ending this for good. If they take all three Zords to Zedd's palace, it just might be enough to take them down. Zordon tells them that it might be possible, but that it is also a very dangerous plan, and will require some serious strategising.

Unfortunatly the rangers never get the change, as they hear of a new monster attack in the city. But this isn't any ordinary monster. Its Goldar himself. The rangers morph into action and call the Shogun Zord. The zord and goldar are fairly evenly matched, with niether opponent doing much noticeable damage to the other. But Goldar being the smart fighter he is, soon learns the limitations of the Zord's manuverability and is able to attack its weakspots. As the Zord takes damage, Rocky asks Tommy what they should do now. Just then, Alpha's voice comes on the PA system telling them that he has got it covered. As the rangers look to the horizon, they see the Thunder Megazord and The Tigerzord come into view. At the command center, Alpha has modified Billy's zord traininer to remotely pilot the zords by himself.

Goldar is a skilled fighter and able to overtake the zords individually. But when three attack him at the same time, he begins to get overwhelmed. Eventually, they are able to beat him down into submission. The mighty Goldar falls down, and covers his arm to protect himself. In the cockpit, Tommy yells out that its time to end this guy once and for all. All three megazords gather round him and prepare to perform thier finishing move at the same time. But as Goldar uncovers his face, he is not scared, but laughing. Tommy is confused, saying that there is no reason for Goldar not to be afraid of three zords attacking him, unless....................Zedd wanted them all to be here.

Tommy's mood sinks as he realizes the horror of what is about to happen. Before he can warn the other rangers, they all turn to him at the same time and tell him that thier controls have locked up. Suddenly thier display screen goes away and Lord Zedd pops up on it, telling them that this new zord comes fully loaded, including an anti theft device. But they shouldnt worry, as they now have a front row seat to the destruction of Angel Grove. As he finishes and Lord Zedd starts taking autopilot controls, Goldar gets up and laughs before waving goodbye and teleporting away.

The rest of the rangers realize that they need to get out immediatly and get back to thier old zords before it is too late. Lord Zedd's voice comes back over the intercom, telling them that one of the best features he had installed was a device which blocks wireless signals, including both thier teleporters and the autopilot that was enabling them to remotely control thier megazords. The Shogun megazord turns towards the other two, now lifeless, and starts hacking away at them. The rest of the rangers go towards the cockpit door and realize it is locked from the outside. Tommy takes out his swords and begins attacking it, trying to pry it open. Finally the rangers all take outthier blasters and blow a hole in ti big enoug for them to climb out.

They all jump down to the ground, but already know its too late. Nontheless they run to thier defenceless zords in a vain effort to stop the destruction before it is too late. They see Zedd's robot tearing into the Thundermegazord and Tigerzord like it was nothing. Explosions and bursts of energy erupt from the two zords as they are torn apart. First the head of the Tigermegazord is torn off and comes tumbling down to the round like a giant boulder, landing 50 feet from the rangers. Then the arm of the Thundermegazord is torn off right above the rangers, forcing them to run away quickly to dodge the giant metal limb. They realize that there is no way to save it, and begin running for thier lives. Along the way robotic heads, arms, and torsos crash to the ground causing it to shake and the rangers lose thier balance.

As the rangers look on, they see the Shogun Megazord advancing to the city. Tommy is trying to think quickly of anything he can do, and remembers the moment were he first got his powers, and his overcharged powercoin blasted an energy beam destroying a giant tree. He calls Zordon up on his communicator and asks him why that happened. Zordon replies that his powercoin was so overcharged that it shorted out the inhibitor chip that usually prevents the energy of the morphing grid from spilling out uncontrollably. Tommy asks him if removing that chip from the morpher would turn the morpher itself into an energy weapon. Zordon says that yes that hypothetically work, but that much energy flowing through the coin could overwhelm it.

Tommy says that they have no choice. Tommy orders all the rangers to take thier morphers off of thier belts and give them to Billy. Billy cracks the backs off of them and yanks out the inhibitor chip from the circuit board.

The rangers take back thier morphers and point them up to the sky pointed towards the Shogun Zord as if they were preparing to morph, but when they push the button, a beam of bright energy erupts from thier coin in a narrow cone. They can see immediatly that it has an effect on the zord, as it immeiatly slows it down. Suddenly they hear a popping similar to the sound of a circuit breaker popping, and energy stops coming from Adam's morpher. Back lighting flases from his coin before he spontaneously demorphs. Tommy orders them to hold steady, as it is starting to work. The beam of energy gets brighter and brighter as they contrinue to blast away. Every few seconds they hear another popping sound and there is one less beam and another one of them stands unmorphed. Now the zord is definatly vunerable, as it stubles and then falls to the ground. Finally the Zord glows itself, and is englufed in the energy before being vaporized, leaving nothing but a black scorch mark in the desert behind. But just as it is all over, the last one of thier beams goes out with the final popping sound.

The rangers are left standing unmorphed and take a look at thier surroundings. It looks like a bomb went off. All around them, twisted bits of metal lay, as miles of cable and wires law strewn around, the occasional small fire burning among the rubble. Rocky says that he doesn't know what they are going to do now that thier zords are gone. Billy remarks that they might have bigger problems, and holds up his morpher. The rest of the rangers circle up and hold thiers up as well. The morphers are all obviously broken, looking dark and scorched, as a thick "X" shaped crack runs right through the coins and morpher alike. The coins have lost thier usual gold shine, and now look faded and dark, like an old penny.

The only things that aren't broken are thier communicators, and they use them to teleport back to the command center. Zordon tells them that there isn't much good news. The morphers themselves are easy to replace. But they are useless without the coins, The coins are what channels the energy out of the morphing grid. And they only had the 6 available to them. Eltar is the only place where they can be made, and they have no way of getting there.

Adam remembers the Zeo crystal. He tells him that once Zordon told them that the Zeo crystal nautrally channels energy from the grid. Couldn't they replace thier powers that way. Alpha tells that that the Zeo crystal has been broken up into 5 pieces and was sent to the dark dimension, an artificial dimension invented by scientists on Eltar, intended to hide things which no one is ever meant to find. The conditions there are designed to uniquely subject anyone who enters to psychological torture as an incentive to otheres to stay away. On top of that, time moves differently in that dimension. Someone could be there for what only feels like hours, and be gone in our world for weeks.

Tommy makes the decision that they apsolutly have to go, but they can't leave the world unprotected for that amount of time. Already Lord Zedd knows they are defenseless, and its only a matter of time before he starts his official invasion of earth. Theres got to be some way that they can both go and leave the earth protected.

Zordon gets an idea. Back on Eltar when he was trying to plead his case to give ranger powers to earth, there was one planet that was sympathetic to his cause. Aquitar. Thousands of years ago it was a frozen planet inhabited by technologically advanced mountain societies, but was invaded by a terrorist who used techology to increase the volvanic activity on the planet, warming it enough to raise the sea levels to the point where no land remained above the water. The people adapted, developing underwater cities, technology to gain energy from water, and eventually even adapted biologically. Using thier own ranger powers, they were eventually able to rise up and defeat this terrorist. Now the planet has remained peaceful for generations.

Given the peaceful status of thier planet and thier sympathy towards Zordon's cause, they may be willing to come and assist them. Alpha programs the viewing globe to send a long range transmission to Aquitar. Transmission is reached, and a mostly humanoid looking figure answers. He is noticeably thinner and more gaunt than a normal looking person, with slightly bigger eyes, and skin that has a pale blue undertone. When he speaks, his voice has a hollow and deep tone, as if spoken through a tube. Zordon explains to him the situation, and he states that it is the Aquitar Ranger's duty to help out all of those that are in need. For this reason, him and his fellow rangers will be willing to come and help defend the earth until the Power Rangers have recovered thier powers.

Alpha configures the teleportation pad for them to arrive. He turns it on, and a bright light flashes as a strange looking smoke billows out. Rocky covers his mouth to try and not inhale it, while Billy walks right up to it and waves his hand through it, he remarks that it is not actually smoke, but water vapor.

5 of the aliens walk off of the teleportation pad. Like the one they observed earlier, they are all skinny and thin with the slightly bluish skin and hollow tone to thier voice. They introduce themselves to the rangers. There is Aurico the Red Ranger, Delphine the White Ranger, Cestro the Blue Ranger, Tideus the Yellow Ranger, and Corcus the Black Ranger. The other rangers come up and introduce themselves as Alpha reprograms the teleporter pad to transport them to the Dark dimension.

Tommy promises the rangers that they will be back as soon as they can, so the Aquitar Rangers will not have to carry their burdon for longer than they have to. Trini mentions that it looks like they arrived just on time too. As they look towards the viewing globe, they see that a monster has already started attacking the city. Tommy's attention seems focused entirely on what is happening to the city until Aurico comes up to him and tells him that there is nothing more that him and his team can do except for trying to get their powers back. He should focus on that right now. He has got it covered from here.

Tommy reluctantly realizes that he is correct, and him and the rest of the rangers prepare to take their place on the teleporter pad. As they do, Billy stays behind and tells the rest of them he is not going. When Trini asks him why, he tells them that the Zeo crystals themselves are not going to be enough. They are only going to power the morphers and zords which by themselves will take weeks to design and build. He needs to make sure that these things are ready to use once the rangers get back so they can resume their duties. The rest of the rangers are sad that one of their own is not going to be with them, but understand the need for him to stay behind. After a round of hugs and handshakes between Billy and the rest of the rangers, Alpha activates the teleportation pad, sending the rest of the rangers off to the dark dimension.

After they are off, the Aquitar Rangers realize that there is work to do, so they take out their morphers and prepare to morph. Billy's scientific curiosity takes over and he studies the morpher. They look like a golden squarish pad about the size of a folded cell phone. At the top is a round hole where their power coins go. But unlike the prehistoric animals that once covered his team's coins, these are branded with strange looking symbols.

The Aquitarians morph into their ranger forms in a big flash of colored lightning. At first glance, these costumes appear to be quite more simple than the power ranger's. Their costume is very mono-chromatic, with only black boot and glove cuffs breaking up a single color scheme. On their cheasts, there is only a black "v" at their neck and a small lightning bolt insignia. Their helmets are only a narrow black visor topped by a gold band with their power coin symbols at the center.

Billy continues to watch from the viewing globe even after they teleport away to fight. Unlike the power rangers who often make use of their individual brute strength given to them by their powers, these rangers are more agile and graceful with their fighting, and instinctually work as a team as if they share a hive mind when fighting. Within only a few minutes they are able to defeat the monster. Billy gains instant respect for them, realizing that these aren't just some kids who were handed the powers a couple years ago. These are elite warriors in a proud tradition that has lasted hundreds of years, and probably worked their entire lives to earn the honor of protecting their planet as a ranger.

It makes Billy curios why Zordon picked them as rangers, when surely there could have been better candidates to handle the power. Special forces officers, Swat team members, firefighters, test pilots, ect. All were already trained warriors who probably could have made better rangers. Zordon responds that they might have been better soldiers, but he wanted someone with a noble heart and an open mind. Someone not already part of a system. He found that in who he chose. They may not be as experienced as the Aquitar Rangers, but they have met all his expectations, and he is proud of them.

Meanwhile the rangers arrive in the dark dimension. They look around to take stock of their surroundings. It looks like a desert landscape at nighttime, however the sky and ground are lit up by this eerie orange glow. Despite the fact that it is nighttime, it is easily over 100 degrees, making it feel like the middle of the day. Kimberly asks which way they should start walking. Tommy says that if this place is anything like Zordon says it is, it shouldn't matter. The rangers pick a direction and start off on their journey.

They walk in silence for what seems like hours, but the lack of change in their environment makes it hard to tell. They could have been walking for 20 minutes, they might have been walking for a week. One of the few plusses about the dimension is that they never feel any biological needs. They never get hungry or thirsty or tired. But if anything this screws with the rangers heads even more, making it hard to tell how much time is has passed.

At one point, Tommy says that they should all take a break. Rocky takes the opportunity to walk over to Adam and sit down next to him. Rocky asks him what the point in all this is. Adam responds that he knows exactly why they are doing this, and can't let the dimension get to him. Rocky shoots back that he knows that this is all for the Zeo crystal but he isn't sure why the two of them are putting themselves on the line for it. Adam is confused. Rocky tells him to do the math. There are only five pieces of the zeo crystal and 6 of them. Tommy is the leader so of course he is getting piece, and Billy is the tech guy so he is a shoe-in as well. Kimberly and Trini have been here since the beginning so they are probably going to get pieces. That leaves two recent additions to the team, clearly the least valuable members. Adam asks him what he thinks they should do about it. Rocky says that he just wants to make sure that they have eachother's back when the music stops. Adam is pretty angry at Rocky's selfish outlook, but restrains himself and tells Rocky that maybe he should think of the good of everyone else first and himself later.

The team walks for what seems like another indefinite eternity, and just when they think that they are on the point of collapse they arrive at 5 doors standing up by themselves in the middle of the sand. Each one has a different colored shape on it. A pink circle, a yellow equal sign, a blue triange, a green square, and a red star. Kimberly turns to Tommy and asks what they do now. Tommy remarks that he thinks they are supposed to go in. They each slowly walk up to a door, open it, and walk inside.

Kimberly finds herself if a dark prison cell with brass bars and green walls. Kimberly recognizes it as the place which Jason described he had been kept when Lord Zedd kidnapped him. She takes in her surroundings and looks around, and sees that there are no doors to this prison cell. Only an octagonal room with bars in a starburst pattern. Suddenly as she turns around she sees that she is facing Goldar. He taunts her, telling her that she is nothing without her powers. Just the same pathetic weak girl still sad about her parents divorce. Now that she doesn't have her morpher to hide behind, she is no threat to anyone. She has been panicking like a cornered animal, looking for someway, anyway, out of the prison cell. But when Goldar tells her that she is weak she snaps. She starts attacking him, and even without the superhuman strength of her powers she is able to do damage. Finally she delivers a roundhouse kick to his cheast and he goes down. As he lands on his back he disappears in a flash of light. She walks over to where he was supposed to land and sees the pink zeo crystal laying on the ground. As she picks it up, she can feel it subtlely vibrating, and when she stares straight at it she can hear this intense humming. She holds it in both hands, and the whole room goes white.

Rocky finds himself back in the command center. However something about the lighting is just slightly off, as if it were a dream. He walks over to Zordon and asks him what is wrong. Zordon says that his concerns have been confirmed. Since he is not worthy enough to wield the zeo crystal, the dark dimension has rejected him and sent him back here. Rocky has been nothing but selfish and worthless since he has become a power ranger, and due to that he is being expelled from the team. Rocky is devastated, and starts taking off his communicator to hand it to Alpha. But right before it is placed in Alpha's hand, he shoots back up and grabs it back. He snaps back at Zordon, telling him that he is not worthless or selfish. He has been here nearly every night practicing in his off hours. He has helped defeat dozens of monsters, and has put his life on the line just as many times to help defend the earth. He is not selfish, and has earned his spot as a ranger every day he has been one. Zordon responds to this by smiling at him, and says "Yes you have Rocky". Alpha hands something to Rocky wrapped up in a cloth. Rocky takes it and unwraps it, revealing his part of the zeo crystal. He stares at it, hearing that deep humming sounds, and the whole place goes white.

Trini finds herself standing on a city street in Angel Grove in her Yellow Ranger costume. All around her, she sees destruction and chaos. Rubble lies everywhere. As she gets closer to the rubble, she sees that her fellow rangers are lying under it and not moving. Suddenly she hears a dark yet familiar laugh. At the end of the street, Lord Zedd is standing triumphant. He tells her that all of her fellow rangers have been defeated and the world is his. However if she surrenders to him, he promises to let her live under his regime. She is frightened and unsure of what to do. He orders her to kneel before him or else he will kill her like her killed her friends. She goes down on one knee, but just before she is about to swear alliegence to him she swats his staff away. She gets up and kicks him, catching him off guard and forcing him a step back. However her advantage is only momentary, as he easily overpowers her and hits her in the gut, sending her flying 20 feet landing on her back. As she lies there in pain, Zedd walks over and raises his staff, telling her that she is a fool for fighting to the end even when it is clear that she has lost. He raises his staff and brings prepares to bring it down for a death blow as she brings her hands up to defend herself. But then Zedd disappears, and the Yellow shard of the Zeo Crystal is lying on her stomach. As she grips it, she too disappears into a white light.

Tommy finds himself in the middle of the desert at night. At first he thinks he mearly emerged on the other end of the doorway, but as he takes a couple steps forward he sees flashing blue and red lights through a fog. He keeps walking forward and sees that he is on a road with a handful of police cars and an ambulence parked and several officers standing around something that is too dark for him to make out yet. He looks down and sees that he too is clothed in a policeman's uniform.

One of the officers walks up to him and asks him what took him so long to get here. Tommy apologizes and asks him what is going on. The officer explains that the driver of an 18 wheeler fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a family. 4 people including the truck driver died, but miraculously the baby in the backseat survived with only a couple scratches. The licence plate was lost somewhere in the crash, so the officer asks Tommy to look for any kind of ID.

Tommy walks towards the wrecked vehicle, which is eerily lit by the roadflares placed in a circle around it. As he gets close, he sees paramedics zipper up the bodybag containing a beautiful Raven haired woman of about 30. He peers inside the vehicle and nearly gags at what he sees. Twisted metal, exposed wires, and torn off doors make it almost unrecognizeable as a vehicle. He glances towards the almost pristine back left seat, glancing at a now empty carseat which miraculously saved the life of the baby strapped to it. Only a few feet away the other child, a 3 year old boy lays still.

The man who was driving the minivan is still buckled into his carseat, and a gash on his forhead obscures his features. Tommy pulls out the man's wallet. As he checks for a driver's licence, he runs across a picture of the family. The man, the raven haired woman, and their two children. Something is familiar about the man's features which Tommy can't put his finger on. He finally finds the man's drivers licence. Steven Truheart. Suddenly Tommy knows who this man is. He wipes the blood from his face to get a better look at him. While the man is older and a little more muscular, he recognizes the jawline, mouth, and eyebrows. It is the same ones he looks at in the mirror every morning. He takes the photo out of the wallet and turns over the back. The writing on it reads "Steven, Lana, David, and Little Tommy". He looks over to the ambulance where a paramedic holds the baby. His wide eyes are staring directly at Tommy.

This is all to much for him and he takes a step back. Tommy had always known that his real parents had died in a car crash when he was a baby, but never knew the details about either the crash or who his real parents were. He had always thought knowing would be too painful. Afterall you can't miss what you have never known about. But he is here now and has to deal with it. He walks back over to the officer which talked to him earlier and tells him the man's name and that there is another victim in the backseat. The officer pats him on the shoulder and hands him something wrapped up in cloth before walking off towards the car with a paramedic. Tommy unwraps it, to find his final piece of the zeo crystal.

Suddenly he hears the officer yelling to get another paramedic over here. The other little boy in the backseat is alive. As Tommy hears humming increase and the desert night disappears in a bright flash, he yells for it to wait but it is too late.

All of the rangers suddenly find themselves back in the command center on the teleportation pad, each holding their own segment of the Zeo Crystal. The Aquitar Rangers welcome them back and tell them that they have been holding down the fort while they have been gone. Apparently they have been actually gone three weeks. Billy remarks that it was an understatement, the other Rangers have been great. And the better news is that he has been working round the clock to be ready for their return, and that all he has to do is plug the crystals in and they should be ready to go.

The rangers are all shaken from their experiences, but are so caught up in the joyousness of this event that they resign themselves to the fact that they will have to deal with the demons they all just faced later.

They take some time to spend with the Aliens, thanking them for the service they just did for the earth. But after some time spent enjoying eachother's company, the Aquitarians (as all good soldiers do) have to go back to theier permanent posts on their home planet. After saying their goodbyes, Alpha programs the teleporter beam to send them back to their home planet and they disappear in a bright flash of light.

The rangers are ready to go to work preparing the Zeo Crystal. However something is wrong. Intruder alarms are flashing. Alpha mentions that they are receiving an incoming message from the moon.

He brings it up, and Lord Zedd appears on the viewing globe. He greets them, and hopes that they are all getting along well without their powers. He mentions that ever since he has defeated their zords and taken their powers, he has been phoning it in with the Alien Rangers they borrowed from Aquitar while focusing his attention on their last line of defense, the command center. After studying it for weeks, he found something interesting. Whenever a long range teleportation is made all the power in the command center is rerouted to the transporter pad, taking their defense system off line for a split second. Not enough time to teleport in a monster without risk, but maybe a small physical object. Anyway he hopes they enjoy the gift he sent them.

Billy runs over to the teleporter pad and as the mist clears sees that there is a duffel bag resting there. He runs back to the group with it and opens it, seeing that there is a bomb inside. It is ticking down to zero with only 20 seconds left. The rangers panic as Adam yells for Billy to do something. Billy responds that he has no clue how to disarm a bomb, and this looks like it is made of alien tech anyways. Zordon orders Alpha to teleport himself and the rangers away immediately. It doesn't matter where, just get them out of here. Alpha runs over to the command center console and quickly pushes a bunch of buttons, teleporting the rangers away.

Tommy finds himself teleported out to the desert about 1/4 mile from the command center. He looks around, and sees Kimberly teleported about 100 feet away. She sees him too, and just as they meet up with one another they look towards the command center and hear a huge bang and a shaking which throws them off balance. Fire shoots out from every opening in a big blast. After the explosion is over, black smoke is coming from the doors as a fire burns out through the main tube running down the center of the building.

Kimberly turns to him and asks him what they are going to do now. "I don't know" Tommy replies. "I don't know".

Tune in Next Time for the Continuation in POWER RANGERS ZEO!

I really don't like that Season 2 took me so long to write, so here is how the next season is going to work. Instead of me posting little story chunks every couple of months whenever I have a few hours of free time to write them, I am going to write the entirety of Zeo first and them post it all at once.

This may sound backwards at first, but if anything I think it will help me get it all done faster whenever I can't just stop for a few weeks after I get a bit done.

The good news is that Zeo is quite a bit shorter than season 2, and in fact is very much a bridge season to "Time Force" which is where things get really interesting.

And as always, I encourage feedback, ideas, suggestions, ect.

POWER RANGERS ZEO Preview:
At first, things seem to be going pretty good for the power rangers. New powers and zords give them more of an edge in the fight against evil than they ever had before.

But a new enemy to them, and an old enemy to Zordon gives them new challenges that they have never faced.

However the greatest threat may be one that they cannot see. Because hiding in the shadows is an old enemy, who when pushed into a corner has become smarter and more ruthless than anyone ever thought possible.

I am so glad you are back...I have been waiting for this installment. I like in your version how the rangers are more proactive in taking the battle to the major villains. I also enjoyed the commentary on lord zedd reduce to same follies as Rita.

Did I overlook Adam's test I kept scrolling through but only saw Kimberly, Rocky, Trini and Tommy. So I am not sure if I overlooked it or are we in for a surprise like Adam does not make it and tommy finds David to replace him or Adam becomes red because I notice you only named the girls respective color shards but not the guys. Whatever it turns out to be I know it is going to be awesome...well worth the wait.
