Thanks. I want to ensure the story doesn't trip itself up while trying to accomplish it's main objective for PR watchers: fanservice. I very much appreciate the compliments, guys. Thank you.

I have finished chapter eleven. It will be posted as soon as I get to a computer.

Chapter Eleven: Vigilante Defined

Tria ran to the door. She hoped she could head the beasts off to a corner so she could transform into The Gold Warrior. As she ran forward, she saw Rito and Novact, disappearing. She noticed each held a golden cog in their hands.

“Drat! Someone saw us!” Rito said, irritated. The invisible Rito lumbered over to Tria and hit her on the head, knocking her out cold.

Rito turned to Novact. “Okay. Now that she’s outta the way, when do we start?”

“When I give the signal. This must all go according to Master Vile’s plan.” Novact said to Rito. The two humans stayed in their positions outside the door in East Wing, awaiting their time to attack.

. . .

Tria heard shouting. She had been discarded behind some rubble in the conference hall by Rito before the attack. As her eyes focused, she peaked from behind where she was. She saw Novact pointing a blaster at Masters Dimitria, Dulcea, and Gerlit. She heard his raspy voice snarl something she couldn’t make out. He seemed very proud of himself.

Looking a ways down the aisle the masters were looking at, she saw a man in a white robe, head buried under a foot belonging to Master Vile. Zordon... She thought. Master Tria snuck back behind her hiding place. Well, I guess now’s as good a time as any... She focused her mind on the image of her Power Staff. The king insignia floated in her mind. She felt the power coming.

“Well... I guess it’s morphin’ time...” Gold energy swam through her arms. Suddenly, she was The Gold Warrior. She focused on Shadow Mode and bounded up, nearly touching the ceiling. She had a brief moment to process her plan. As she came down, she directed herself onto Rito, who screamed as he fell backward. She projected herself then onto Novact and used that momentum to ricochet onto Master Vile. She exited Shadow Mode and nimbly landed in between the fallen Zordon and her comrades. As soon as they could process what had occurred, The Morphing Masters began their attack on the Tengas surrounding them. Zordon pulled himself out of the aisle, clutching his injured leg.

Tria pointed her Power Staff at Master Vile as he stood up.

. . .

Sentinel Knight’s teleportation landed him, Master Animus, and Master Gosei in The Morphing Master council room. He turned to the two. “I am the protector of The Corona Aurora. I cannot let anything happen to it. It is likely Master Vile is trying to distract us with trying to get The Zeo Crystal, with his true motive being The Corona Aurora. I need to stay vigilant.” Sentinel Knight produced The Corona Aurora in his hands. Master Gosei had only heard of its existence and never thought he would actually see it in person. He stifled the urge to say, “Wow!”

The crown disappeared. “I currently have it junctioned to me. As long as I have The Morphing Masters around me to sustain me in my calling as guardian of the jewels, I know they are safest with me.” Master Animus and Master Gosei nodded their heads at Master Sentinel. They sat in the room, awaiting word the other Masters had resolved the battle.

. . .

Master Delphine looked at Master Orion. Master Orion sat in a hospital bed in the infirmary adjunct building of The Academy’s Medical School. It was the most prestigious, and heavily guarded, medical school in The Alliance. She knew they would protect the injured Orion.

He grunted. “I gotta help the others... oh...” He tried to get out of bed and fell back, the pain from his injuries was still there, although the physical manifestations had long gone due to The Morphing Grid. There was some science about how The Morphing Grid took a longer time to heal internal injuries, but Master Delphine did not know much about it. She was more a politician herself.

“Okay, Master Orion, “ Delphine said in her aquatic voice. “Now that you are secure, I will be heading back to help the others.”

Orion chuckled. “Well, at least one of us is of use... Thank you for getting me here safely. May the Power protect you.” Delphine nodded and teleported out.

Orion shook his head. “They didn’t teach me to be a mama’s boy back in Andrasia... ow... ow...” He whimpered as he tried to readjust himself in his hospital bed.

. . .

Kamen flipped through the air, trying to avoid Madam Woe’s braids from capturing him. The Defender tucked his body into a ball and rolled closer to her.

“You will never keep us here, you know.” He prophesied as he shot her with what he affectionately named his Magna Blaster. She swiveled midair to see him. She charged toward him.

It’s working. Perfect. Master Magnas thought. The best way, he knew, to take on a Madam Woe was to divide and conquer. Fighting a Madam Woe one on one would prove to be very difficult, and only one who had great determination and a powerful fighting spirit could hope to wrestle themselves out of the situation. Magnas looked up to see Master Kamen swipe down Madam Woe’s back.

“Arrgh!” She yelled. Magnas converted his blaster into a sword and then jumped into the air, tucked into a ball again, and used his connection to The Morphing Grid to spin continuously, building up energy in his sword. Once he charged, which was a quick process, he slashed at his opponent’s face. A blue jewel dropped.

“Well, well.” Master Kamen said, approaching the jewel casually. He turned and pointed at Madam Woe. “I guess we know what this means. Bye, bye, pocket dimension.” Kamen crushed it in his hands, reverting them back into the conference hall.

“AHHH!!!” Tria yelled as she, in Shadow Mode, bounded into Madam Woe. The Gold Warrior shifted out of Shadow Mode and did a backflip to land balanced. Madam Woe sparked with electricity and exploded.

“Now’s our chance. Let’s get out of here!” Master Vile yelled at Novact and Rito.

“But, Dad! I--”

“Quiet, boy! The Gold Warrior is on the threshold of destroying all three of us. Now, come!” And with that, the three teleported back onto their ship in orbit.

Tria pounded her fist into the wall next to her. I almost had him! Magnas approached her. “My apologies, Gold Warrior. We did not mean to interfere. It was... happenstance...” The Gold Warrior turned to face him. She understood it wasn’t his fault. She nodded and, learning from her mistake with Master Orion, did not say a word. She focused on Shadow Mode and bounded away.

“Well, she’s mysterious. Right up your alley, Magnas.” The Defender helmet disappeared and Magnas was left only in the armor he rarely took off. The ever ready combatant turned to his friend and laughed. “I’m married, moron.” He pushed Kamen. He then pointed to Zordon, in a corner trying to stop his bleeding, but his concentration was rattled and he couldn’t focus fully into The Morphing Grid.

“Let’s help the kid out, shall we?” Kamen grinned at Magnas. Magnas chuckled again and they headed toward Master Zordon as the other masters attended to Rahp and Zedd, and to anyone else they could find in the destruction.

. . .

Sentinel Knight stopped. He looked at Animus. "I feel something in The Morphing Grid. Do you?" Animus was nowhere near as sensitive to Grid fluctuations as was the seasoned presiding Master, so he had to consciously focus. As he did, he felt a transformation.

Sentinel Knight assumed a battle stance. Gosei continued to get a strong reading, but could only feel the slightest hint at something... new. Upon seeing Animus imitate Sentinel's sense of urgency, he followed suit with his own ready position.

A golden beam appeared, teleported into the room. Before them, stood the skirted Gold Warrior. Sentinel decided to speak first. "What is it you want?"

The fighter's weight shifted from leg to leg. Suddenly, the warrior twisted back. When thr Gold Warrior lunged forward, a large golden ball of energy was shot out at The Masters. Animus and Sentinel were able to dodge the blast charged from The Grid, but Gosei was unable to feel The Grid quick enough and was blasted into a desk.

"I want The Corona Aurora..." Hissed The Gold Warrior. Sentinel Knight started circling toward the enemy, sure to not just lunge forward, giving up his stance.

Animus stayed in his stance. He looked over his opponent and decided to up the stakes. "Defender Helmet: Activate!" Animus pulled off his orange robe to reveal his armor. His helmet descended on him. It was very similar in design to Magnas' suit. Animus was the only person to sport The Defender suit outside of its prototype phase. For The Alliance, The Animal Realm was an obvious choice for The Defender Initiative: they were a displaced people, making them extremely vulnerable to the like of empires, like that of Master Vile's.

He charged at The Gold Warrior, fully aware of what the consequence would be. Let's hope Zordon made this to withstand a Grid powered blast... Animus thought.

As predicted by Animus, The Warrior turned and, in defense, blasted him. This gave Sentinel Knight the edge he needed. As The Warrior turned back, Sentinel Knight performed a roundhouse kick to his opponent’s helmet.

At that moment, Master Delphine arrived. "I sensed a disturbance. I see..."

The Warrior stopped and looked at The Masters circling around, ready to attack. The Warrior lifted up an arm and was teleported out in a flash of gold.

"Who was that?" Gosei asked as Animus assisted him up.

Sentinel Knight clenched his fist. "I have a good guess..."

. . .

The council met again after the conference. Sentinel Knight was playing it safe by making it appear as if he had no leads, so he asked Kamen and Magnas to report on what they found when they investigated the energy mass outside The Lost Galaxy.

They said they observed the mass from as far as they felt comfortable. They said from what they could calculate, the mass they have codenamed The Dark Cloud was on a direct course to Mirinoi. They announced they would be leaving to Mirinoi the next day to try and stop the thing and they would be selecting people to accompany them.

Although important, Sentinel was focused on his next task. He was ready, and so was his trap. He passed the time to Master Ivicar. Ivicar gave medals of war to Zordon, Dimitria, Dulcea, Gerlit, Kamen, and Magnas for bravery. He mentioned Zedd and Rahp would be equally honored at a ceremony the next weekend. He then thanked those Masters for pulling him, Master Michael, Master Estro, and Master Tria from the rubble.

Once Ivicar concluded, Sentinel Knight stood. He looked at the council. "As some of you have heard, The Gold Warrior attacked me and attempted to take The Corona Aurora." Tria felt shocked. This was the first she heard of this. That's impossible! I was nowhere near here! She thought back to after she defeated Madam Woe. She snuck under some rubble and pretended she had just gained consciousness.

As she recalled this, she slid her hand into the pocket of her robe. She felt the gold cog Rito had used to become invisible. He had dropped it during his scuffle with Tria. When she went to rejoin the others after the battle, she had noticed it on the ground and snatched it up for herself.

Sentinel continued. "This individual thought they were smarter than the council." He produced a remote from his red robe and pushed a button. Suddenly, Tria felt several stabs of pain. Before she could react, she was split into three.

"The Warrior was a female, and sported the Triforian king's insignia. Tria recently was in possession of The Zeo Crystal. There is no point in lying." Sentinel looked down at her three selves, crouched in pain.

Dulcea stood. "... Sentinel... it was I who wrote your report of the incident for the archives. At the time you say The Gold Warrior attacked you, Master Tria was helping me dig out Master Michael from the destruction. I had my wrist tech on: it recorded everything if you need proof."

Sentinel Knight was shocked. I have never been so wrong before. He quickly released Tria. She slowly reconnected her three selves.

Sentinel walked to her. "I am sorry. I thought if it were you, I shouldn't give you a chance--" Ivicar placed a chance hand a Sentinel's shoulder. "That's enough. I believe you should sit."

As he took his seat, several of the council gave him cold stares, while the others knew not how to handle what they had seen. Zordon was of the mind Sentinel Knight had good evidence and acted appropriately.

Gosei had seen what this fighter could do. He fully supported the decision to attack first, ask questions later: it was war. Gerlit was very against what Knight had done, for expressly the situation Knight found himself in: "what if you are wrong?" Gerlit was in the same line of thought as many of the other Masters.

Ivicar walked to the center of the room and turned to the others. "In light of recent events, it is obvious council statutes take precedence: No vote needed. The Gold Power Ranger is a vigilante and must be captured."

Chapter Twelve: The Lord Born

Zordon sat in Lightning Cruiser. Beside him was Master Magnas. He didn’t say much during the trip, and that’s the way Zordon preferred it. He felt as though the trip to Mirinoi should be spent focusing on the mission. Getting one’s mind “in the zone”, so to say.

In Storm Blaster sat Master Orion at the driver’s seat, with Master Kamen in the passenger seat. Behind them sat Masters Tria and Dulcea, facing the opposite direction. Orion and Kamen joked about some of the things they encountered together when they fought side by side in the M51 war against Master Vile. They went through a lot in those battles, and although their relationship would never “gel” like how Kamen’s did with Magnas, they were close nonetheless.

Dulcea turned to Tria. “You know... I admire The Gold Warrior. I have dreamt to access the power The Morphing Grid has. I saw the good she did. I did not feel anything bad from her.” She looked to see if anyone was listening. “I don’t agree that we have automatically counted her as a vigilante. She must have a good reason for wanting The Corona Aurora. She saved me and my group. She saved Zordon and his group on Solaris 8’s moon... I don’t know... It makes no sense for her to be bad!”

Tria didn’t know what to say. She thought, You are one hundred percent correct! It doesn’t make sense because it wasn’t The Gold “Ranger”! How do I know? Because I’m The Gold Ranger. Instead, she gave Dulcea a smile and said, “You have a good point there. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Only time will tell...”

The two female Masters looked forward, seeing The War Star armada ships following them. After some extensive healing treatments, Commander Rahp was ready to go. Commander Zedd was also enlisted into this battle. Another newly promoted commander, Filcar, joined them in his own battleship. The Alliance was fearful of what this mission may mean, so they were careful in their selection of fleets. Tailing the armada was Commander Risp, a human from KO-34. She was a hard commander and ran a “tight ship”. The Alliance placed her as the commanding general for this mission because although Zedd, Rahp, and Filcar had proven themselves through diligence and field exams, they were fairly new to running their own unit. The Alliance did not want to leave that to chance.

Kamen provided the only ship and commander he could spare from Edenoi, but he did not squander: this commander was known far and wide for being decisive and cunning. He once was able to, with just his ship and ingenuity, push back half of Dregon’s fleet.

Kamen opened a communication link to his commander’s ship. “Storm Blaster to Scorpion Stinger. Storm Blaster to Scorpion Stinger. Do you copy?” Kamen had received reports that the closer one got to The Dark Cloud, the more likely communications would get jammed.

“We read you loud and clear. We are good to go and ready for action. Commander Scorpius out.”

. . .

It floated through the space it found itself in. It was intrigued by everything it saw, because everything was new to it. It did not know how it came into being; it knew that it was hungry, and what it wanted was more power.

This being floated by an asteroid and absorbed it. It felt like it was approaching something which might quench its hunger for more than just a moment, though. Something big.

A planet... The mass thought. It did not know how it could think, or rationalize, or know words like “planet”, but it could. The first vessel it attacked, it felt guilt because it realized some of the objects it was absorbing seemed to be alive and sentient. After feeling the satiety they gave it, though, it did not care. It would rather destroy any and every living thing before feeling hungry again.

It even gave itself a name. I am The Dark Lord. It thought to itself. It knew it was approaching its destination soon. Suddenly, an image and a name popped into its mind.

It audibly laughed. If anyone had been around, what was a laugh to The Dark Lord would’ve been comprehended as a sound which would come close to being able to define what evil sounded like. Thinking on the image, it was able to think of the name again.

Mirinoi...

. . .

Future: Omega Ranger stared at the monitor. “Dark Cloud? I’ve never heard of it... Computer: Search all files for The Dark Cloud. Oh, and please remember that I shouldn’t be locked out of anything- this is project related.” He added, hoping to bypass the restrictions which had been placed on him in The Hall of Legends.

“There are no files for The Dark Cloud.”

Omega sat for a moment. “Computer: Are there any files on The Dark Lord?”

“One file found. Report by Katie Walker. Playing audio now.”

Omega listened as the familiar voice of the Yellow Time Force Ranger rang in his head. “I am having problems sending Time Force cameras to the point when The Dark Lord first surfaced. Its exact nature is unknown. It actually absorbed a Time Force camera when it tried to get close enough to run a mass composition scan. Whenever we sent one to the moment we have calculated as its ‘birth’, some sort of massive energy obliterates the camera. The risk of leaving more tech floating in space in the past is too great. For now, until Trip can find a solution, we are aborting the mission to ascertain The Dark Lord’s origin.”

And with that, Omega Ranger stared at his screen. “What are you? You know things something of your nature should not know. This makes no sense...”

Hoping to plow through his duty as quickly as possible, he resumed the archived footage.

. . .

Master Vile paced the command room of The Skull Ship. He was frantic, trying to think of a way to stop The Gold Warrior from foiling his plans.

Rito, sitting back in a chair, swivelled around to face his father. “You know, we could always ask Dischorida for help.”

Vile chuckled. “As amusing as it is to see Dischordia forcing The Alliance to act like buffoons, I’m not in a position where I can play with my prey. The Gold Warrior is a serious threat, boy. And what are you doing, just sitting around!? Did I not give you an assignment!?”

“Already done, daddio!” Rito said, swiveling back to the ship’s console to resume his game.

Master Vile was glad to hear this. “Good, good. Once your sister is done summoning Madam Woe into a new vessel, I will send her down again. It is imperative she gets a fighter in a solo fight. I have yet to see someone clever enough to defeat her without support.”

Novact entered the room, a smile on his face. “Master Vile. I have tracked down The Zeo Crystal. It is being loaded onto a ship near The Morphing Master’s headquarters.”

“Excellent! Now we wait!” Master Vile turned and started walking toward his throne. Novact’s face dropped. I’m giving you a gold mine here! Let’s attack now, you moron! Novact thought.

“But... Master... Should we not attack now?” Novact hid his displeasure with years of practice at pretending not to feel. Master Vile approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“No, no, my loyal servant. It will be easier to attack them away from The Morphing Masters, where they plan to unload the artifact. I do admire your enthusiasm, though. You’re still a little too impulsive for my taste. You’ll become a much better general if you learn patience!” And with that, Master Vile went and sat on his throne.

Once again, Novact felt the sting of not being good enough. His whole life, he knew what it meant to not measure up to what was expected. While working with Master Vile, and being trusted with this new power, he felt as if he was someone important. Being a failure, in any capacity, was not a possibility Novact wanted to face. He felt his stutter begin to return. He could hardly begin a rebuttal. He wanted to argue with Vile, to force Vile to see things his way. In fact, Novact did not care if he was right or wrong at this moment: he only cared that Vile agreed with him. If he failed afterward, he would deal with that, but it was more important to have approval and notoriety than to do things right.

Master Vile turned his attention to his protegé. He saw him, bubbling with energy and wanting to get things done no matter what. Vile chuckled. “Oh, dear. It looks as if you have gotten yourself all flustered. Listen, the enthusiasm is great! Once you learn some more tactics, under my wing, you will be one of the best. With your eagerness to perform, you will be like a dark wave, crashing down on your opponents.”

Novact regained his composure. He liked what he was hearing. He also realized, for the first time in his life, he did not need anyone else’s approval to get something done, or to feel good about himself. Hearing that he had the potential to beat down anyone in his path was appealing to him. Master Vile’s words planted a seed in his mind which couldn’t be easily unearthed. Novact looked at the being he once thought of as his master. “A dark wave, huh?”

“That’s the spirit! You are dismissed, Novact!”

Novact walked out of the room, feeling pleased with himself.

. . .

Burai looked out the window of the armada cruiser. It had been a while since he had been sent on assignment. He turned around and looked over The Droid he and Zordon had packed into the ship. He was to monitor its energy expenditures, and all other relevant vitals during The Droid’s premier battle.

Zordon had told Burai what to look out for and how to manage the equipment from the war ship. The ability to broadcast long range was still under development, so the ship would need to stay fairly close to the action. Even though it’s to be a lackey... I am glad I get to finally see some action. I am a member of The Top, after all...

He thought of how irregular it was that he and Cestro did not see much action as of late. He thought that perhaps The Alliance was trying to ensure The Masters always had a pool to pick from. This matter, however, deemed itself too important to The Morphing Masters, so they sent all of The Top to this incident. Burai turned to see Cestro working on final adjustments while the new member, Margaret, observed fluctuations on the monitor.

Margaret was from the ill-fated planet, Decrof. She had been a key element in helping The Alliance. Through her research she was able to ascertain that the weakness of The Blue Globbor was sunlight. Although she only showed her findings to The Alliance at a point in which Decrof could not be saved, her reveal greatly aided the forces to be able to inhibit Vile spreading rapidly through M51.

She turned and flashed a big smile to Burai. His stomach was in a knot. He found her very attractive, from her appearance down to her intellect. She was witty and kind to everyone around her. Her silver hair swung around her as she turned. “Oh, Burai! I have another question about The Morphing Masters: what type of animal is Animus? He looks very humanoid to me... how does that make him from The Animal Realm?”

Burai shrugged. “Apparently he is some sort of ape-like creature... now. One of Animus’ abilities he gained from The Morphing Grid is that he is able to store some of his self in The Morphing Grid. Since he can do this, if he falls in battle, he can be reincarnated later on, at an undetermined time. His will slowly can seep out of The Morphing Grid and it will inhabit the body of an infant, or in utero... I don’t know. When’s a baby a baby? Right?” Burai felt silly for starting to ramble. He wanted to answer all of her questions, but also to show some personality.

“Oh, interesting! Anyway! I think The Droid is ready to go!” Margaret grabbed Burai by the hand and pulled him toward the machine. Ever since Margaret became an official member of The Top, Burai was glad he had not been picked to become a Morphing Master. Although he still felt the sting, and was still bitter over it, working with Margaret was worth not receiving the honor.

. . .

The Dark Lord saw the planet. It was pleased. The planet was everything it thought the planet would be. The Dark Lord knew its hunger would be quenched for quite some time. It descended upon the planet, compressing itself into a mass smaller in diameter, but just as powerful.

When the beast looked down, its tendrils reached and ripped chunks of earth out of the ground. As the mass absorbed the chunks, it felt pleased. The Dark Lord imagined how it would feel when it had finished the whole planet.

Suddenly, The Dark Lord felt a blast hit its side. It was able to perceive a group of people running toward it and getting into formations around it. The Alliance... It thought, anger beginning to fill its being. It did not know why these being spelled bad news for it, but it knew they did. The Dark Lord whipped out a tendril holding a boulder and chucked it toward one of the soldiers.

This soldier yelled out something and was suddenly adorned in some special armor. This soldier, Master Orion, yelled, “Charge Up Mode!” and fired a giant ball of energy at The Dark Lord. It thought the energy would feel good, but instead of absorbing it, The Dark Lord felt pain. It grew angrier.
Another enemy suddenly charged The Dark Lord, blasting at it. The Defender... It thought. It tried to absorb this being, but The Defender was too fast.

Zordon shot electric currents at The Dark Lord. Dulcea and Tria pointed their blasters. All of the soldiers were unleashing a storm of fire on the beast, not knowing if it meant anything. The mass of evil swung it tendrils about. It grabbed a soldier, absorbing it. It felt some of its vigor return, but it wasn’t enough to heal everything it was getting bombarded with.

Commander Scorpius looked at his troops. This is my chance to prove myself to The Alliance. I'll rise the ranks in no time and finally rid myself of that horrid Edenoi! Scorpius thought. "FIRE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!!!" They blasted the beast. The Dark Lord felt pain shooting throughout its membrane covered body. To try and heal some of the damage, and to rid itself of some of its attackers, it began throwing tendrils out to absorb Edenites.

"...Move out. Ensure the enemy is taken out. Do all you can to protect the other troops." Command Risp said to her troops over her communicator. Her eyes stared at The Dark Lord as her troops swarmed around her toward their target. She pulled out her sniper blaster and began taking shots at the tendrils. Some of the tendrils broke, releasing their victims. Very quickly, however, the tendrils were fully formed again. What is this thing made of? This is not good... Risp thought to herself. She stared at her fighters, hoping the best for them.

“Droid Number One: Activate!” Zordon commanded into his wrist tech. Zordon feared he was too close to The Dark Cloud, but was glad to see the communication went through. A red, humanoid battle bot teleported from the War Star ship nearby onto the battle area. Zedd, Filcar, and Rahp wrapped around the feet of The Droid to act as support.

Filcar smirked. “Nice to be back, guys. Ready to tear this thing apart?” The three of them nodded. They saw their troops start to succumb to The Dark Lord, and they feared for their lives. Zedd thought about how all of this started: they were recruited because they were good at their job. They were innocent archaeologists caught in the crossfires of history. One thing each of them vowed was that they would be able to return to their normal lives.

Zordon sat in the pilot’s seat. His Droid leapt forward toward a tree, stretching out a leg. As the leg approached the trunk, the Droid flapped its arms, sending its torso up ahead of the leg. As The Droid’s body began to pass the tree, the foot landed on the trunk and The Droid propelled itself toward The Dark Lord.

Master Magnas shot energy blasts meanwhile, while Kamen absorbed the blasts with his saber, hurling them at The Dark Lord. Kamen knew that the more the enemy was distracted, the more efficient a direct hit could be, since it would go unblocked. The Morphing Masters hoped Zordon’s vehicle would be up to the task.

Zordon had The Droid reach into The Dark Lord’s core. Before The Dark Lord could react, The Droid opened its hand and released what it had: an implosion device. As Zordon finished the task, The Droid performed a flip midair and landed yards away from the opponent. All the while, Zedd, Filcar, and Rahp shot at it and threw plasma grenades.

What is this inside me...? The Dark Lord thought.

“Everyone: RUN!” Master Zordon ordered, indicating the deed was done.

Burai, on the ship, knew what this meant. He turned to Cestro. Cestro nodded and pushed the detonator. Turning to Margaret and Burai, he said, “It is done.”

An explosion went off in the beast. Zordon looked up to see no effect of the blast in sight. “Huh? Everyone, are we okay?”

Zedd was the first to answer. “It seems the blast did not work...”

What no one knew was that the blast had damaged The Dark Lord, but only from the inside. The blast did not escape the membrane surrounding the beast’s nucleus. For all intents and purposes, Master Zordon’s plan had worked. All of the systems inside The Dark Lord were severely damaged.

“Everyone... look.” Master Magnas pointed at The Dark Lord with his blaster. “It appears The Dark Cloud is faltering...”

As he said this, The Dark Lord fell to the ground, its smoke like body looking odd plopping down. Its membrane kept its inner parts floating like a mosaic. I must survive. I cannot let this be... my end. Suddenly, an instinct programmed into this being made itself aware of its only possibility. The Dark Lord discovered its parasitic nature.

“FIRE!!!” Master Orion yelled as a smoky tendril lifted itself up. The soldiers’ intent was to protect themselves from the attack. What they could not foresee was how they were helping the beast: The Dark Lord lifted a tendril so it could puncture its membrane. Coupled with Alliance fire, the tendril flew down and poked a hole in itself. Black smoke shot out, deflating the body.

No one knew what to do. Unseen by the heroes, The Dark Lord had scanned the crowd surrounding it, looking for susceptible yet powerful hosts. It had its target, and the troops knew not how to defeat this smoke beast.

Seeing this, Tria slipped behind some trees. She focused on the Power Staff and became The Gold Ranger. She ran out from her hiding spot and rushed toward The Dark Lord. She had planned to only become The Gold Ranger if absolutely necessary: she feared becoming an intergalactic incident, because she knew that would cause the entire Alliance military to have her on their most wanted list. She saw the smoke fly out of The Dark Lord’s membrane in mind numbing speed.

It shot toward Filcar, Rahp, and Zedd. “Get out of here! Run!” The troops ran every which way, forgetting their training. The smoke approached the three, getting closer and closer. It had its target. Just as it had calculated, the slower of the three, Filcar, was in reach. It would soon have its host.

Zedd looked back. Filcar, you idiot! SPEED UP! He thought. Commander Zedd pulled out his blaster and turned around. I got you guys into this mess... I’m not letting anyone fall! He charged the smoke beast.

Risp took aim and took one shot at the smoke beast. She had no effect on its approach. The blast wisped past. She pulled her sniper blaster back and stared. "Troops, close in on the beast. Commander Zedd is in trouble."

“Filcar: drop!” Zedd ordered. Hearing Zedd’s voice, he automatically did what he was ordered to do. As he dropped, Zedd unleashed everything he had into the encroaching monster. They, too, passed through The Dark Lord, not doing any damage at all.

“Argh!” Zordon screamed, sparks flying from his Droid: He had done the opposite of the troops and along with most of The Morphing Masters, were giving chase. Zedd’s blasts hit him by accident and, almost as if directed by fate, hit vital collateral circuits in The Droid’s system.

“All systems down!” Cestro screamed. Margaret was told to divert energies to another part of the system by Burai. Turning to Burai, she shook her head. “I am unable to do it, Burai... All systems down!”

In Shadow Mode, Tria bounded toward Zedd and The Dark Lord. Orion, Kamen, and Magnas were shocked to see the shadow signifying The Gold Ranger, but did not deter from their goal. Dulcea, however, stopped when she saw the shadow. She’s here... It’s time for me to get answers!

The Dark Lord’s remnant shot forward, unaffected by the blasts. It saw the body before it. It realized it wasn’t its original target but recognizing it from its initial scan, thought, The fool is stronger and allowed itself to be caught. My gain...

Commander Scorpius watched through his binoculars from a distance, observing his men running around with the others, unsure of what to do. He watched as The Dark Cloud gave chase to Zedd, Filcar, and Rahp. He watched as Zedd confronted The Dark Cloud. Scorpius hoped his studying of the beast's movements would help him find a pattern to defeating it. Using the troops on the field as bait seemed like the best option to him. What he saw next, though, when The Dark Cloud advanced upon Zedd, changed his life.

Zedd could not react. He felt his nose and mouth fill with thick, black smoke. He couldn’t move. He tried to scream, run, call for help on his communicator. Nothing happened. He saw The Gold Ranger land in front of him. He saw The Morphing Masters ran up, falling in line behind her. They stared, unsure of what to do. He saw Alliance troops gather around him.

Suddenly, he “heard” something. <Zedd, is it? That’s a nice name. You were a dedicated soldier. I thank you for keeping this vessel in such good shape. Now watch me run your reputation through the mud...>

Zedd felt his eyes dart around. He felt his brain drudging up battle tactics he had learned from the time he entered The Academy to that point. He remembered all of the battle formations and strategies The Academy employed.

Zedd felt his mouth curl into a smile. His voice, uncontrolled by him, flowed out of his mouth. It sounded like a combination of his voice with this deep, otherworldly, raspy tinge. “Prepare to feel my wrath, Morphing Masters.” He felt his hand lifted up to his face, digits slowly moving as he spoke. “I am your worst nightmare: I am Lord Zedd!”

Thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed the chapter. A lot of stuff happened in a short period of time, but over the course of the story I hope I can do a good job of unwrapping the layers. ^_^

As an update: the first post will now contain links to each chapter and will be updated accordingly.

Chapter Thirteen: The Letter of the Law

The new Zedd recognized the formation his opponents were forming. He shot an energy blast and ripped through a large portion of fighters. Screams could be heard from the smoke and ash the blast left behind. Zedd clutched his left arm.

...That was too much energy... I can’t do something like that again... The Dark Lord thought.

<Ha. It looks like your plan didn’t work exactly as you had planned, huh?> Zedd mocked the beast inhabiting his body. Zedd then felt The Dark Lord think. Images flashed through Zedd’s mind. The thoughts ended upon the term “power regulator”.

The Dark Lord, ignoring Zedd’s words, began searching for the next part of his plan. While this was happening, he was using an extreme amount of power, hopping from area to area. The Gold Ranger was right on his tail.

From the ship nearby, Burai looked at Cestro. “They need our help. What can we do?”

Cestro considered for a moment before answering. “We can always use Storm Blaster and Lightning Cruiser.”

Burai nodded. “Excellent! Margaret, stay here and monitor the systems. We’ll need someone safe in case...” He let his words trail off, not wanting to confirm the worst for those around him. Margaret nodded and turned to her computer. She moved her silver hair out of her way, tying it into a ponytail.

Meanwhile, Scorpius watched as Lord Zedd easily evaded The Gold Ranger and The Morphing Masters. Such power! What I could do with a power like that... Scorpius realized he was half jealous that power was being wasted on a grunt from The Alliance. He considered what that power would’ve meant, seeing how Zedd’s persona changed, but after a moment realized his free will would’ve been an ample sacrifice to be so powerful.

Storm Blaster and Lightning Cruiser flew overhead, unable to pinpoint Zedd with their blasts. Cestro had made a point of putting their vehicle’s blasters on stun, so they could see what they could do about separating Zedd from the parasite within him. The Gold Ranger, still in Shadow Mode, could not move fast enough. Perhaps if she knew in what direction Zedd would go she could at least keep up, but losing time trying to also process his rapid directional changes, she could only keep him in her sights. I have to get to him. I can’t let someone innocent fall to a fate of... this!

Commander Risp had finally reached the battlefield. She found herself next to Rahp and Filcar. They looked at her. She noticed Filcar looked as if he had been crying. Rahp approached her first, saluting.

“Commander Risp. We have our men reorganized. They are attempting to secure Commander Zedd. Permission to speak freely?” He looked at Risp in the eye for the first time.

“Permission granted.”

He relaxed and started speaking his intents to her. “I am afraid for Zedd. What can we do to help him? I mean, who would’ve thought that thing...?” He looked down at the ground.

Risp was on of the few outside Zedd’s platoon who knew the story behind the formation: they found some sort of artifact and were “commissioned” to protect it for The Alliance until The Morphing Masters decided what they would do with it. Commander Risp was the one who led the team who gathered the archaeologic team and later interrogated them, “recruiting” them to the cause.

Personally, she did not agree with The Alliance’s tactics, but orders were orders. Feeling a stab of guilt for being a key part of Zedd and his people becoming entangled with the military, Risp felt some loyalty to the intent of rescuing him. She placed a hand on Rahp’s shoulder. “We will find a way to get to him. We just need to wait for The Morphing Masters to assess the situation further.”

Rahp looked up, a fire in his eyes. “No. I have waited long enough for The Morphing Masters. Nowhere in The Alliance creed does it say soldiers need to wait for The Morphing Masters. I am a commander in this mission, and I say we hit hard now and do what we can to get back our fellow soldier. He is a hostage, and The Alliance does not negotiate for hostages: they save hostages.”

Filcar straightened up at Rahp’s powerful words. They struck a cord in Risp as well. She looked at this man, exuding leadership in a time of uncertainty. She nodded. “Attention!”

The two of them straightened up and faced their commander. Looking at Rahp, Risp said, “I am turning over the role of general commander to Rahp. What are your instructions, commander?” She fell back to attention. She had realized with Rahp’s connection to Zedd, and his determination to get the job done, he would be a perfect fit for this mission.

Master Magnas and Master Kamen did the best they could to keep up with the superpowered beings, but could not keep up. Dulcea dropped down from some trees as they stopped to catch their breath. “Nice of you to join us.” Magnas said through his helmet. Dulcea looked at the black blur chasing the red blur.

“It would be nice if we could keep up with them...” Dulcea looked at her two fellow councilman. Kamen placed his hand behind his head, elbow pointing up. “I hope you’re not insinuating what I think you’re insinuating...”

Dulcea looked down, and then back to the two fighters.

Lord Zedd found his target. As he landed, he sent a shockwave out from him. It caused his body to start to shut down again. The Dark Lord used all his energy to keep the body from completely failing. Zedd could hardly stand the pain and his brain caused that consciousness to go “unconscious”.

Lord Zedd looked to find The Gold Ranger trying to recover. He pointed his hand at the target on one of Mirinoi’s trees. The power hit it and teleported it into his hands. As he did, he found himself surrounded by Dulcea with her staff, The Defender, Orion wearing the Light Armor, and Kamen with his saber. The Gold Ranger jumped in with the others, Power Staff in hand.

Lord Zedd cackled. As he did, he leaned back, his body fully involved in the laugh. He showed his enemies what he held: a giant snake. “Prepare to meet my wrath!” Lord Zedd then focused his energies into the snake, much like Master Tria had done with the Zeo Subcrystal and her Power Staff. The snake then transformed into a large, metallic staff. A giant Z was found at its head.

Master Zordon had finally approached the group at that time. He saw everyone, sporting their weaponry. He spied Lord Zedd and his new Z Staff. “AHHH!!!” Lord Zedd yelled as he used the staff to blast those around him. The Morphing Masters quickly darted out of the way, narrowly avoiding getting vaporized. Lord Zedd was glad he had the staff: his powers were too much for his mortal frame, and was quickly destroying it. The Dark Lord turned the snake into a staff to serve as a power regulator, to not destroy his vessel. He feared if his vessel were destroyed, because he was junctioned to it, he, too, would be destroyed.

The Morphing Masters reassembled, with Zordon in the middle. He knew he would have to up his game. He had intended on saving the equipment he was thinking of for a later time. Sentinel Knight had passed a law for The Alliance stating The Morphing Grid was not to be used as a direct power source for fighters. Zordon, in his research, had found a way to mimic certain features of The Morphing Grid. He had actually proven all beings and objects have some sort of connection to The Grid. He was planning on sharing his findings soon, before he was promoted to be a Morphing Master. Well, I guess impressing investors isn’t the forefront of my responsibilities anymore. Hopefully Sentinel won’t suppress this idea. I wanted to have time for him to process this before unveiling it. Zordon thought to himself.

Zordon looked at his comrades. He stared at Lord Zedd. The man who he swore to protect on his first mission with The Morphing Masters. The man who he felt he had failed. The man I will bring back from the clutches of evil. Zordon extended his hand. “Saba! Come to me!”

A red saber appeared in Zordon’s hand. The blade extended a bit as Zordon gripped it upside down. Magnas tilted his head.

“Nice parlor trick, Master Zordon. Let’s see what it can do.” Lord Zedd yelled.

“Everyone stand back: he’s mine.” Zordon charged forward.

“Zordon, is this wise?” The head of his saber said.

“I need your help right now, old friend. We can talk logic later.” Zordon replied as he rushed his opponent.

“Oh, my...” Saba replied.

Zordon swiped at Lord Zedd. Lord Zedd easily parried the attack with his staff. He then pointed the staff at Zordon and sent Zordon flying.

“Attack!” Rahp yelled. He and the other militants had been in hiding, waiting for their commander to give the order. Rahp had assigned all the troops to set their blasters to a stun setting. Once he saw Lord Zedd drop his guard, he ordered everyone to storm the field.

The Morphing Masters followed in step, with Storm Blaster and Lightning Cruiser flying overhead.

“Cestro, are you ready?” Burai said over his dashboard communicator.

“Ready!” Cestro replied in his underwater-esque voice.

Burai felt bad he had not been much help until now: Lord Zedd’s shockwave had temporarily taken a lot of the vehicle’s systems offline, including targeting. It seemed as though now, with his staff, Lord Zedd’s attacks were more concentrated and controlled, not only regulating how much output from Lord Zedd, but also not allowing it to “splash” everywhere. The two vehicles seemed safe.

Scorpius, now the only person not involved in one way or another in the fighting, continued to watch from afar. He continued to be in awe of the might Zedd now had. “Amazing! Absolutely amazing!” The gem on his forehead, which all people native to Edenoi had, recorded everything he saw into a format he could later transfer to a computer. He wished to analyze all of the data he saw later, hopefully to see how to defeat Lord Zedd himself and rip his powers from him. He was awestruck by Zedd’s new ability to take on six Morphing Masters, The Gold Ranger, and four different Alliance subunits. “I need power like that!”

Risp was amazed at Lord Zedd’s agility. His movements were fluid, like a beautiful choreographed dance. He had a counter to everything The Alliance threw at him. What no one knew was The Dark Lord was accessing all of Zedd’s Alliance training and was able to, due to his nature, recall everything faster than mortals could normally process, being able to fully regulate ion channels and Zedd’s entire nervous system in general. He was like an enhanced myelin sheath throughout Zedd’s body.

Filcar did the best he could to keep up. What little energy he could use to tap The Morphing Grid, he did. He flung small rocks and debris at Zedd while trying to get closer. This was supposed to be me! Let Zedd go! Take me! Filcar thought frantically. The burden of the recent events was taking its toll on Filcar. He did not want the guilt on his shoulders.

Master Orion was able to get close to Lord Zedd. He exchanged blows with the beast before being flung into a tree. Not by coincidence, Lord Zedd had flung him into a tree in which Master Dulcea was situated, prepping for an aerial attack. Master Orion’s slammed the tree hard enough to knock her down to the ground.

Zordon shot lasers out of Saba’s “eyes”. Lord Zedd seemed to be able to absorb them with his staff. Lord Zedd began to laugh. “Fools! You will never destroy me!” He then sighed. “I am tired of this. Time to explore the universe!” And with that, he simply vanished.

Everyone looked around to see the damage. Friends had fallen; many others were injured. Master Kamen was the first to notice what was a big deal: “Everyone, look!”

The Gold Ranger had her hand to her shield. She was glowing a bright gold color. It was an odd sight: the suit seemed like it was vibrating around her. Then, suddenly, she demorphed.

What? How!? NO! She looked around at everyone, stunned. Her secret was out.

Dulcea was pleased: seeing Tria in fact was The Gold Ranger concreted to her the ranger was in the right. Magnas and Kamen were divided: they had seen how The Gold Ranger saved them in the conference hall, but also heard of her attack on Sentinel Knight.

Zordon was shocked. He looked at her, almost pleading that it wasn’t so. “But, why!? You are supposed to uphold the law, not destroy it!”

Tria shook her head. “I did not break any laws! I--”

“You attacked Sentinel Knight! He said he felt you tapping The Morphing Grid!”

“I didn’t tap anythin’! That wasn’t me!”

“Oh, so there are two gold rangers now? How convenient!”

“You are so ungrateful! I saved you back on Solaris 8 and--”

“Me, ungrateful!? I am extremely grateful... to The Alliance! They are the ones who maintain order in the universe, but when anarchists like you start running around, everything is put into jeopardy!”

Master Orion sent an energy ball between the two, narrowly missing them, to get their attention. “Stop it, you two. We need to work things out. Tria, you will need to come back with us for questioning.”

“Of course, Master Orion.” Although Tria outranked Orion in the council, his words and her law breaking gave him precedence.

“That’s not enough!” Zordon yelled. “I have the law on my side: Tria, as The Gold Ranger you have broken Alliance Law: You are under arrest.”

“Zordon, I think you are taking this too--” Dulcea started. Before she could finish, though, Zordon pointed Saba at Tria.

Tria summoned The Power Staff and as she did, Zordon fired. Tria rolled out of the way. “It’s morphin’ time!” She yelled out of habit. She found she was able to morph faster when she performed similar habits before each morph, as if a memory trace had been formed to help her access the power quicker.

The Gold Ranger stared at her friends. Zordon pointed Saba again and fired. She went into Shadow Mode and bounded away.

Dude, each chapter you write gets better and better.I do have a few questions:
1. Where's Rita?
2. Will the Machine Empire come into play soon?
3. You have Dulcea, will Ivan Ooze appear too?

Thanks! I am having a lot of fun ripping the characters out from my story map and into the chapters. I am glad you are liking it!

Those are some very interesting questions!
1. Rita is around. She was mentioned by Vile in chapter twelve while he was speaking to Rito.
2. Hmm... it depends on your definition of "soon"...
3. Oh, yes. Ivan Ooze... I am excited about MMPR:TM characters. ^_^

Thank you both for your kind words! I'm so glad you are enjoying the story. I hope it continues to go on to your satisfaction. ^_^ To tell you the truth, a few weeks ago when I was ending my re-watch of "in Space", it was a very different experience for me thinking of it with this fanfic in mind. Haha

Now, as you may notice there are some changes: I had the title changed so I can post all of the parts to the story in one thread. I have looked around the fanfic area a little and noticed Ryuranger has that set up. I liked it and it felt more organized, so I will slowly be updating my first post to be more organized like that.

I also changed the title of Origins, Part One to be what I had originally intended it to be in my rough draft: The Reign of The Morphing Masters. I think it fits the grand scheme of the story better, and especially with what I have planned later.

I just finished chapter fourteen. I will post it when I get a chance. Any thoughts on the story and questions are welcome!

Thank you so much for reading, everyone. ^_^

Chapter Fourteen: Power- Reorganized

The Morphing Masters sat in council. They had many issues to go over and process. Sentinel Knight had asked Zordon to present his findings. Zordon spoke of the first mission of The Droid Program and how it was very useful. Due to the mishap, they were able to see where they could fortify The Droid’s armor. Zordon then disclosed what had occurred with Commander Zedd, and his new persona upon being infected with The Dark Cloud. He concluded by recommending more medals of honor for the commanders involved: Zedd, Rahp, Filcar, Risp, and Scorpius. He also spoke of the help everyone received from the cadets from The Top: Cestro, Margaret, and his right hand researcher, Burai. He told the councilmen that everyone involved was invaluable, and that was why he was standing there alive.

He then described the incident with Tria. He described how she lost control of her morph and how she resisted arrest. At this, he finished and took his seat in chair fifteen, beside Master Gosei. Sentinel Knight took the stand.

“As you all can see, Tria is not here. She has run from here, the organized alliance of the universe. She now abides in chaos, wishing to promote her vigilante ways. I don’t doubt she wanted The Corona Aurora to create more beings like her.”

Dulcea thought about that comment. If that were the case, then why did she return The Zeo Crystal? She could’ve taken that and said Vile had captured it. No one would’ve known better... Dulcea looked at Sentinel Knight, wondering why he was so quick to accuse Tria.

“--and so this is why Tria of Triforia, as of now, is no longer a member of The Morphing Masters.” Even those who had been busy preparing paperwork for their committee meetings perked up at this. It had been a very long time since someone living had been removed from that elite group. Dulcea hid her displeasure with a lot of patience.

Zordon was in full agreement to this decision. He knew there had to be a cancer high up in The Alliance: the communications breaking down right before Master Vile’s attack was too much of a coincidence to him. Only he and Burai had touched the system that day, and when he left it was working fine. Given a choice between someone who outright broke the law and hid it versus someone who, although annoying, has been loyal in his calling to The Alliance, I’m going to side with the latter. Zordon thought to himself while observing those around him.

King Estro raised his hand at this point and was given some time. “Without even thinking, my mind wandered to this train of thought: who will take Master Tria’s place!? Well, let me tell you, councilmen, that I am going to recommend a name to take her place on the senior council. It is an obvious choice for me. Master Zordon, you have been nominated.”

And with that, the royal Master took a seat. Zordon wondered why him, of all people. There were seven other people with more time as a Morphing Master.

Master Magnas raised his hand and stood. “On what grounds does such a recommendation stand?”

Estro shot a glance at Magnas, as if his word were good enough as it was. “His leadership has been very apparent to me, and I personally would like to have someone like him in the senior council. My preference, you know.” And then, in mock sincerity, added, “My grandest apologies, if my personal opinion offends...”

Sentinel Knight nodded. “This recommendation has been thought over by me, the presiding member, and I see nothing to object. Master Gerlit, would you please administer the voting process?”

Master Gerlit nodded and announced for all those in favor to raise their hands. Zordon was surprised he wasn’t asked to leave the room. Interesting set up here... There must be a lot of confidence in goodwill around here... Zordon thought as he saw the arms go up. Why should I care who votes? I just need to get my research done... Although he thought this, deep down, he did care. In favor of Zordon was Sentinel Knight, Master Ivicar, Master Dulcea, Master Gerlit, Master Estro, Master Animus, Master Gosei, and Master Michael.

Against Zordon’s nomination was Master Magnas, Master Kamen, Master Orion, Master Dimitria, and Master Delphine. Gerlit looked around and said, “Because the voting is not close, Zordon need not vote. The newest member of the senior council is Zordon Zoltar of Eltar.”

Sentinel Knight adjourned the meeting and called Zordon up to speak with him. As Zordon approached the head of the group, Master Orion was wheeled over to Zordon in his wheelchair. Because he had not been one hundred percent going into the battle on Mirinoir, when Lord Zedd thrust him into a tree, he had a slight relapse.

He grabbed Zordon’s arm. “Hey, kid. Just wanted to let you know that it wasn’t personal.” Zordon stared blankly at him, no idea what he was talking about.

“What wasn’t?”

Orion pointed to the chairs where everyone had been sitting. “You know, the voting. I didn’t vote for you because I feel you need more experience, not because of who you are. I think you’ll do great and--”

“Whatever. I’m just here to make sure things get done. Maam?” Zordon turned to the nurse pushing Orion. “He can go now. He probably needs his rest.” Zordon started turning when Orion grabbed his arm again.

“Hey, now! Be nice. You could at least call her by name! Tell him your name, please.”

Zordon tried to escape but Orion wouldn’t let him. The Aquitian nurse, slightly embarrassed, turned to face Zordon. “My name is Cestria. Nice to meet you, Master Zordon.”

Zordon nodded and pulled himself away. He approached Sentinel. Probably for a robe change. What am I now, gold? Who cares? What a waste...

“Zordon, I want to say I read over your personal report before the meeting today. I appreciate your discretion on your saber. I do want to keep that on the down low for now. As you noticed, I did not object to your senior status. I believe you are a fine Morphing Master and we all have a lot to learn from you. Remember in the future, though, to let me know of any research you have in development prior to a field test. That is, until Orion can take his spot again. Then you need to run research through him: he still outranks you in the council.”

“Understood.” Zordon said. I love dealing with Sentinel: short and straight to the point.

“By the way... may I meet... Saba, was it?”

Zordon groaned in himself. “Yes, Master Sentinel. Let me know when you would like to meet him. He is a dear friend of mine.”

Sentinel Knight nodded. “I’ll make my way to your lab tomorrow before you start the interviews.”

Zordon acknowledged the self invitation and left the room. He had forgotten about the assignments handed out earlier that day: He and Orion were to interview and conduct The Trials for Burai, Margaret, and Cestro. One of those three would be the new “white robe” member of The Morphing Masters.

They’ll probably want me to be involved with finding a replacement for The Top, too. Oh, well. At least it is somewhat constructive. Maintaining order is a must.

Sentinel Knight, back in his office, went over the assignments again in his head to ensure he remembered everything:

Animus, Gerlit, and Estro were to man affairs there at the HQ;

Ivicar, Magnas, and Dimitria were to journey to Triforia to see if there were any leads on Tria;

Dulcea, Kamen, and Gosei were to meet with Rahp and the others from Zedd’s platoon to deliberate on The Zeo Crystal’s destiny;

Zordon and Orion were to handle the picking of the new Morphing Master. This time, we will have time to present full evaluations from this new round of The Trials before the council, to help them pick the newest member. Although Zordon is a great member, it would have been better if we weren’t rushed due to App’s death.

For Sentinel, order was always key. He had overlooked Zordon not going through another round of The Trials because they had taken place only two months earlier. Technically those trials had been for placement in The Top, though. Normally, another round of The Trials would be performed for placement in the council. App’s sudden demise and the growing need for help with The Zeo Crystal expedited Zordon’s promotion.

To round off the list, Michael and Delphine were assigned to ensure Commander Scorpius had finished public affairs with Mirinoi, to calm the people down so they weren’t frightened, and to clean up the remnants of battle. Then, they would try to find an energy trail to pinpoint where this new foe, Lord Zedd, could have gone.

Sentinel Knight, sitting in his office alone, produced the crown known as The Corona Aurora. He looked at it. And me... with my eternal assignment...

. . .

On Mirinoi, Commander Scorpius looked to his trusted scientist. He was a brilliant man born on the planet Claydoious, although his ancestors were from the planet Sirius. He had been released from Research and Development at the beginning of Master Vile’s war on Decrof. He had wanted to dive deeper into The Morphing Grid to find its true potential, but bureaucrats such as Zordon expelled him from their midst. Their loss, my gain... Scorpius thought.

The scientist looked at the deflated membrane that once housed The Dark Lord. It was made of an organic substance he did not understand. He was fascinated to be able to research it, and was glad he was no longer under the strict guidelines Sentinel Knight had enforced within the ranks of The Alliance.

Finster!” Scorpius yelled. The Sirian turned to face his new employer. “Yes, sir?” He trotted over to Scorpius.

“Now, what I want you to do is study this thing... do whatever you need to, I don’t care. My soldiers are at your disposal to experiment on.”

“But, sir, if the IRB hears of this--”

“That’s why they won’t. As long as you are under my wing, you can do whatever your heart desires! You do only have one heart, right? Anyway! Remember! Your main objective is to find out how to convert this... thing...” Upon uttering the word “thing”, Scorpius picked up a stick and lifted the membrane up. It clung to the stick and made an awful noise as it was lifted up off the ground. He groaned in disgust.

He continued, looking at Finster. “Convert this husk into something I can use to power myself up. I want to show the universe how someone with brains wields power.”

Finster, eager to finally be able to do experiments on his own terms, answered, “Yes! Yes, sir! I will get right on it.” He then scurried off, telling Scorpius’ grunts how to handle his equipment and giving them instructions on how to handle the membrane which once encased the essence of The Dark Lord.

Scorpius laughed. He thought of how he would crush so-called invaders, like the upstart Count Dregon from his homeworld. “Today marks the day of the beginning of my rebirth. I will rise up over all who oppose. The day will come when all will bow before me, and call me their master!”

. . .

He stood on an asteroid, surveying everything around him.

This garden... it is perfect. I can use it to plant my seeds of power. I will be a king! The Dark Lord thought to himself.

<You won’t be king of anything. You float around with a title you had to give yourself. The Alliance will stop you.> Zedd told The Dark Lord.

The Dark Lord continued to ignore the voice in the back of his new head. He knew it was the banter of a prisoner who had lost everything.

Commander Zedd focused all his energy, and finally accomplished his goal. After a couple of days as a prisoner in his own body, he did it. He was glad he could read The Dark Lord’s thoughts: he hadn’t noticed what Zedd had just accomplished. For some reason, maybe because it was Zedd’s brain to begin with, The Dark Lord could not hide his intents to Zedd, but Zedd could do so with The Dark Lord.

Zedd’s feat was that he was able to twitch a finger.

Lord Zedd cackled, unknowing of what was occurring in his body. “No one will stop the inevitable: I will reign over this universe!”

. . .

Master Vile turned to his son. He was still playing a game on the ship’s console. Vile moaned to himself in disappointment from his throne. Too tired and annoyed to walk to Rito, he yelled at him.

“Boy! Why are you lazing about!? Isn’t there something you should be doing!?”

Rito smelled his armpit. “Hmm... I guess I should bathe...”

Vile threw his arms up. “Why can’t you be more like your sister!? She is currently on assignment and doing fantastically! Soon, we should have everything we need to destroy The Alliance from the inside out!”

Rito considered this, then shrugged. “I guess she got the good genes. Hey, what about Mom, anyway? Uh... who is she? Did I get my genes from her? Is that why you aren’t happy with me?”

Vile chuckled. “Oh, dear child. If you were useless, I would’ve destroyed you long ago. Now, don’t you fret. I foresee a legacy for you. You may be bumbling, but I think you will one day be a great warrior, and have the strength to take on the strongest the universe has to offer!”

At this grand proclamation, Rito smiled and turned back to his game. Master Vile shook his head, placing his palm to his face. “Oh... when will that day ever come?”

Novact looked on the scene. Ever since his epiphany earlier, when Vile had told him he could wash over his foes like a dark wave, he looked at those around him with disdain. They were all lower than him. He hated them. They moved too slow for him. Vile’s soft spot for his children annoyed him: in a real empire, Rito would be used as bait, and the general would actually hope he got destroyed.

He sneered as he looked at the man continue his game. Keep playing your game. You’re not the only one who can play games. I can play, too. And my game is just beginning... The future is mine...

. . .

The Gold Ranger looked at her surroundings. She found herself on a planet unknown to her. She collapsed again, demorphing.

Tria tried to morph, but it wouldn’t take. She felt her energy exhaust every time she had entered Shadow Mode. Chasing Lord Zedd on Mirinoi in Shadow Mode for such an extended period of time appeared to have caused The Gold Ranger powers to hit some sort of threshold. She did not know when she would be able to morph again.

Being in an unknown place, she felt vulnerable without her powers. It was odd for her to feel so out of place without the ability to morph, because she had only just recently acquired this power. She realized how much the power had felt right to her then.

She thought back on the recent events. There was Master Vile trying to dominate everything he could, Lord Zedd and the destruction he was capable of, and what seemed like a more of a threat to Tria than any other: the fake Gold Ranger.

Who is this Ranger? What does she want? How did she get Gold Ranger powers? Why does her costume look like mine? Sentinel said he felt the ranger tapping The Grid... Is this Ranger a Grid Ranger? If I have to face her, will she be stronger than me?

All of these questions and more raced through her head. She sighed. Alone. She thought again of all the villains appearing, spreading like a cancer. She wondered if there were even more, hiding in plain sight.

Tria frowned. “I only see things getting worse for everyone from here on out.”

. . .

Zordon was back in his room for the first time in what felt like ages. He looked around, surprised to find no signs of a roommate. He had wondered how long it would be until he had a solo room, as it was customary for Masters to have one. He hadn’t thought it would’ve been so quick, though.

How long has it been, though? Two days? Three? A week? He would need to look at a calendar. Between Solaris 8 and The Zeo Crystal, The Gold Ranger attacking to get The Corona Aurora, the incident at The Intergalactic Conference, and now with Zedd possessed by some demon-creature, Zordon had lost track of time.

Well, now that the “cat’s” out of the bag... Zordon thought.

“Saba: come forth!” From out of a small ball popped out a red feline like creature. One day, while Zordon was doing research on a planet in the Vica Galaxy, he ran across this creature. It was very young and couldn’t speak: a baby. Zordon scoured the area, trying to find the creature's family, but to no avail. He couldn't find any record of even that galaxy having a species that matched this cub's description.

Zordon thought he was a curious thing and decided to take it back to his lab. He found it held great power, and a bio scan revealed its brain was capable of being sentient. He named it Saba, because he had found him in the morning time.

During Zordon’s research, he noticed Saba was getting more and more difficult to hide from everyone, so he tested a project of his: pocket universe devices. He got the idea from dimensional chambers Edenoi had been creating with their own science division. With permission from King Lexian, Zordon used the tech to create a portable device with its own pocket dimension. He had visited it before testing it on Saba and found it worked well.

After a hundred years, he and Saba grew extremely close. They were very good friends. Oddly enough, although Zordon raised him, the two looked at each other as brothers. Saba was already, in Zordon’s opinion, smarter and more powerful than most in The Academy.

“So, Zordon, the cat... er... I... am out of the bag, huh?” Zordon laughed. He and Saba had spent so much time together over the years, they often spoke alike.

“I happened to channel in when Sentinel Knight was speaking to you. I am glad to hear he doesn’t disapprove of our research. You know, I did tell you he would’ve understood had you explained you were tapping me for energy and not purely The Grid.” He stuck his large tongue at Zordon playfully.

Saba was the only person with whom Zordon felt comfortable. He gave Saba a playful push. “You’re so corny. Yes, you were right. Can we get on with studying?”

They both looked around. Saba smiled.

“Wow. Our own room... I don’t have to hide anymore... Things sure are looking up for us, huh?”

Zordon smiled. “Yes, Saba. I only see things getting better for us from here on out.”

Nice! Finster working for Scorpius was a great surprise and I like the use of Zordon's original name as his last name.

I am getting a very "Star Wars" like vibe from this story. And I think it works. Keep it up.

I am glad you liked Zordon's last name. The term Droid is also taken from the original pilot.

When I started writing, I started seeing the similarities with Star Wars, too. It was completely unintentional! Haha I am glad you guys are liking it.

I am slowly updating the first post with the characters. I hope to get chapter fifteen done soon. I have hit finals and I have two more to do, so things may or may not be slow the next couple of days for me as far as posting.

Chapter Fifteen: Hiders, Keepers

Dulcea looked at the resistance fighters in front of her. Their spokesperson was Rahp. He looked as if he hadn’t slept in days. Odds were, he hadn’t. He and the other member of this group, Filcar, were present when their leader, Commander Zedd, had been possessed by some creature. This new being who called himself Lord Zedd was nowhere to be found. Rahp had informed their team of what had occurred. They all wore solemn expressions.

Accompanying Dulcea were two other Morphing Masters: Gosei and Kamen. The man from Edenoi peered at the artifact on the table in front of them. To a casual observer it was just a crystal. To someone standing in its proximity, however, it was much more. One could feel the power The Zeo Crystal exuded. Sentinel Knight had proclaimed, when Orion and App had originally been called to study it, that it was a physical chunk from The Morphing Grid. In reality, The Morphing Masters in general did not understand what that statement meant. Sentinel Knight, the presiding and oldest member of the group, also did not fully comprehend this proclamation. All he knew is what he felt when he was near the object, and with his connection to The Morphing Grid, there was no doubt in his mind that, somehow, The Morphing Grid had a piece of it that had crystallized and taken a form here in this dimension of existence.

“So, what do we do? We are here to plan, but I don’t know where to start.” Kamen remarked, breaking the silence.

Gosei nodded. “This is a daunting task that we have been given. I fear whatever we do will attract Vile or any other fiend that may be creeping out there in the universe.” He shot a quick look at Kamen subconsciously as Count Dregon came to his mind. Dregon had been denied the title of prince on Kamen’s homeworld by his father, Lexian. Dregon then took a portion of Edenoi’s troops who were loyal to him, and had begun waging a small war on Edenoi. A small number of Alliance soldiers had been enough up to this point to fend Dregon. People had been worried at that moment, however, because a substantial amount of time had elapsed since Dregon’s last attack. Rumors throughout the galaxies were that Dregon had a plan in place, and was close to implementing it. Those in the know about The Zeo Crystal in The Alliance feared Dregon had heard of The Zeo Crystal, and wanted it to help him against Edenoi.

Continuing their stare at the powerful object, Dulcea looked up. “Well, Sentinel gave us the task because he felt this team was strong enough. Now, does anyone have any suggestions?”

No one from Rahp’s crew budged. The tension from them was thick. They had already been through a lot since they were “recruited” into The Alliance. It was understandable that they were just going through the motions by this point.

Gosei coughed and stood. “I have had this thought... What about The Masters’ Palace on the satellite of Earth?”

Kamen laughed. “You mean the original headquarters? Why would that work at all? It is an old building with antiquated defenses.”

“I thought that since it was good enough for The Venerated Ones, then why not for us? It wouldn’t be the first place anyone would think of, it does have good defenses, and we can always fortify it.”

Dulcea nodded at Gosei’s statement. “I understand what you are saying. The Venerated Masters picked Earth as their base so long ago because of its connection to The Morphing Grid.” She looked at the troops. “All we would need to do is increase its defenses a bit more, and I think it would work.”

Kamen considered before offering his thoughts. “Edenoi has been working on dimensional pocket technology. I know Zordon had tinkered with it at one point about one hundred years ago. You know... I can always get some of this tech for the defenses. We could create an obstacle course with defenses and dimensions in and around the crystal.”

“I remember reading Zordon’s report on that tech,” Gosei added. “He spoke about using this dimensional technology as a way to give bases more rooms than it actually had, like a soldier would have his own dimension in which he could fight.”

Rahp decided to add in his two cents. “I think this idea is good. We travel to The Masters’ Palace on Earth’s moon and hide The Zeo Crystal there. We create defenses around it and leave warriors there to make sure things work out.”

Dulcea smiled. “I have something else we can add to this: deception.” She continued smiling.

Everyone stared at her, waiting to hear what she meant. “My people,” Dulcea said, “Had techniques of guarding things by causing hallucinations. We called it The Art of Deception.” Kamen was shocked to hear Dulcea mention “her people”: Dulcea’s species was kept as a confidential record in The Alliance and only a select few knew anything about them.

“If someone is not completely pure of heart, they would sucumb to their own delusions. This especially works with large groups of people: even if you have a group of genuinely good people, the little bits of impurity within them will combine to create enough impurity to fuel the magic, making the delusion a reality. I personally don’t know of anyone who would want to hunt The Zeo Crystal on their own.” She was very pleased with herself. She felt like she had found a foolproof plan to protect the artifact.

“So we call it The Caves of Deception. We create a network of tunnels under The Palace, imbed these tunnels with your magic, Master Dulcea, and reinforce the rooms of The Palace with the pocket dimensions to hold prisoners and lay traps for anyone trying to get past us.” Filcar said all of this with confidence, as if he were reciting facts from a book. Filcar was a big picture man, and once he heard a plan that made sense, he was ready to take action.

Kamen nodded with approval. “I will get a hold of my scientists right away.”

“I will arrange for our trip to Earth’s moon.” Gosei said, stepping out of the room.

As everyone filed out after Gosei, Dulcea looked at the crystal. It has been so long since I have tapped the power of my heritage. I hope I do them proud... Dulcea thought, thinking of the trek that brought her to this point in her life, so long ago...

. . .

Magnus paced in the room they found themselves in. It was a small space station orbiting around Triforia. He, Dimitria, and Ivicar were supposed to travel to Triforia to investigate Tria’s disappearance, and secretly to ascertain whether Triforia was harboring the vigilante, The Gold Ranger.

When they approached, they were beckoned to dock at the spaceport. Magnus was very upset.

“We are Morphing Masters! We should not need to have to trifle with these procedures.” He lost his patience and slammed his fist into one of the metal walls, leaving a slight dent. “This is ridiculous!”

Ivicar smiled and walked over to Magnus. “Patience, dear friend! Patience! We have to all abide by the laws of each planet. If we don’t abide by law, then all there is... is chaos! Now, we don’t want that now, do we?” He walked away before Magnus could retort, making the statement a rhetorical one. Magnus hit the same spot, deepening the dent.

A young Triforian entered their room with a stern look on his face. “Masters, although we respect you, Triforia has laws it must abide by. You do not have a warrant to search us to the degree you want. We will tell you upfront that we are not harboring Master Tria--”

“She is no longer a master.” Magnus cut the man off, glaring at him.

“...we also have no idea about a warrior clad in gold armor. You have our cooperation. If we see or hear of anything, we will let you know. Your shuttle has been prepped by our team and you may leave at your earliest convenience.” He rushed through his entire statement quickly and succinctly, not allowing any room for debate.

Ivicar walked back to Magnus and place a hand on his shoulder. “It’s okay, Magnus! I know we travelled out here to get this done, but remember we must remain calm. Although they may not allow us in now, if we come back later, with the proper paperwork, they may let us in! So, let us head back home and report to Sentinel.”

Magnus shrugged off Ivicar’s arm. “I am not wasting anymore time! Hey, you! Bug!” Magnus took his long strides to the young man before he could leave the room.

“Listen here... I came here on assignment to get something done. I need you to understand that we are here to ensure safety. We don’t have time to wait for paperwork. Now, let us in!”

The man pulled out a blaster and shot Magnus in the gut, charring the armor under his robe. “What!? You will rue the day you messed with me! Defender Helmet!” Suddenly, Magnus was in his Defender uniform. He pulled out his own blaster.

The impulsive young man had acted without thinking. He was afraid and thought he needed to defend himself. He had no idea he was starting an intergalactic incident.

“Why don’t we all just calm down? Will you all please put away your weapons?” Dimitria implored the people in the room.

Suddenly, soldiers could be heard outside the room in the halls, approaching the disturbance. The young man ran out.

“That worm! Ivicar, Dimitria? Let’s move out.”

The Morphing Masters ran out the door and through the hallways. They fought their way when they had to, carefully ensuring no one was destroyed.

Magnus saw their ship surrounded by soldiers. He put up a hand, signalling the other two to leave things to him.

To the troops, Magnus began a proclamation: “I am Master Magnus. I am a very good fighter. Accompanying me are two other Morphing Masters. Now, we have been nice and spared the lives of those who have attacked us. We did not deal the first strike, but believe me, if you do not move, I will deal the last one. If you let us go now, you will be spared.”

One by one, the troops lowered their weapons. The three Morphing Masters made their way to their ship.

“Our systems are ready. Leaving Triforia’s gravitational pull.” Dimitria informed the crew of two behind her, feeling comfortable again and no longer speaking in questions.

“Well,” Magnus turned to Ivicar. “That sure did escalate quickly, didn’t it?”

Ivicar nodded. “Yes, I should have foreseen their bureaucratic ways would be an issue. My apologies for not getting a warrant for this occasion.”

Magnus smiled as he shined his helmet. “Don’t you worry. You shouldn’t have needed to do that.” He sighed. “Everytime you mentioned that we were to come back, and that we needed a warrant instead of getting things done right then and there... it just infuriated me, you know? I am the one who needs to apologize. I hope I can mend things with Triforia once we get back home.”

Looking out the window into space, Ivicar, in his warm way, replied to Magnus. “I hope so, too, Magnus. Triforia is a strong force within The Alliance. If we lose them, we may have started a chain reaction that could leave a big hole in both our and Triforia’s defenses.”

. . .

Master Vile looked out the window of his Skull Ship. He was smiling.

“Now is the time. Soon, everything will fall into place. Are you both ready?” He turned to face the two behind him.

“I always am.” The Gold Ranger said, gold energy glowing from the fighter’s gloves.

“Soon, The Morphing Masters will be nothing but a memory!” Madame Woe stated, flashing her long nails.

Master Vile looked at them, then back out the window. He looked at the planet on which The Morphing Masters were. “Soon, you will feel my wrath, Morphing Masters! Soon, The Zeo Crystal will be mine!”

The small details from across the history of the series that you are weaving into the story provide credibility and connection. This includes the things like Zordon's last name, the droids, and Madame Woe (whom Rita had once called her old friend) to the palace on the moon and the caves of deception. It definitely demonstrates a deep familiarity with the long history of the characters and a great attention to some things that appeared or were mentioned only once on a single episode even.

The references to Rita's mother made me imagine a character named Bandora making an appearance. Or perhaps Rita was kidnapped by Vile and raised as his daughter. I'm eagerly anticipating the unfolding of how Rita comes to work for Zedd, and with Finster making an appearance as Scorpius's scientist, it will be exciting to see even more characters begin to enter the story. The Morphing Masters motif has worked so well as a tool for putting the mentors together. Thanks for the character photos. They are a big help.

And as for the Star Wars vibe that others have noticed, I think it works well. I always kind of imagined the ancient Zordon as a member of a Jedi Council type body whose members mastered the Morphing Power a lot like the Force. So keep the story coming. And good luck with all your exams.
