Twisted Metal show in development

Sony held an investor relations presentation today where they confirmed that the cult PS1 classic Twisted Metal would indeed be getting a TV series adaption.

Not too long ago Sony announced that they would bring their big franchises and games to both the big screen and TV. Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra stated that they have sealed the deal for the Twisted Metal TV series, though they have no other details to discuss about the show at this time.

ďWe have a TV show we just agreed to get underway that will be developed from the IP on PlayStation, itís called Twisted Metal,Ē Vinciquerra explained. ďItís a game that was put out many years ago and weíre going to develop a TV series around that.Ē

Twisted Metal hasnít really been in the cultural zeitgeist in recent years, with the only the last game in the series being released in 2012 on the PlayStation 3. There also was supposed to be a movie project for the series that was announced last year, but that movie never came to fruition.

During the presentation they also mentioned that an Uncharted movie is currently in ďadvanced development.Ē While we donít have much in the way of details for this project either, we do know that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg has been confirmed to be the director.

If youíd like to check out the original story of Sony Pictures Entertainment announcing their plans, feel free to go here for more details.

I am a little surprised there isn't a new game announcement with this.

Look the bright side, is not a movie.

Why does Hollywood keep wanting to adapt old stuff these days?

That's actually the shadowy side.

The game has no plot, it's about blowing cars to scrap. Movie length is actually preferable in this case.

eh, I mean there is some plot that you can mold. Sweet Tooth is a serial killer so you can do something with that.

Yeah, between Sweet Tooth and Calypso, you can expand enough plot for a movie. But a series? That's stretching the source material way too thin.

A movie wouldn't be a bad thing.

I don't know. You have your Big Bad in Calypso, at least for a time. Sweet Tooth has held the spot as well, but if nothing he's still a strong player. And I feel like I'm missing someone other than those two that've lead a TM game but maybe not. And Minion would make a fun brute opponent, likely one that both good and bad guys would have to work together to stop. But he could be expanded upon too. Anyways, there's a score of various characters who all generally have their own stories so it gives some show fodder. Of course I imagine they're have maybe around four "protagonists" and likely an equal number of "antagonists" as they move through the tournament. Then have others in secondary roles to fill out the players. And depending on how they do it, if it'll be like one season equals one tournament, you could have some kind of end and then come back with a new season and either use all new characters, or a mixed back and still get to tell stories.

Can we stop acting like this is a new thing? Some of the earliest movie in hollywood Dracula, Frankenstein, Wizard of 0z, ext. All book adaptions.

Hollywood has always been this way.

Yeah, and it's not like it's really all that bad of a thing. It can be really fun to see books/comics/etc adapted into a movie. It's not like movies have only existed to do original content.

Maybe they'll approach it with a Death Race kind of deal. Honestly I'm cool with this, that's if it gets off the ground.

It is when they're purposefully going back to stuff that hasn't been popular in almost a decade.
