The original Charmed was a good series but after season 4 it went downhill for me. Mostly due to the quality not being as good. I'm not opposed to reboots but I don't think this needed one. I could be wrong and this ends up being really good but it's probably going to be like all the other CW shows that were reboots of old shows like 90210 or Dynasty. I have a feeling that this might end up getting canceled after one or two seasons.

Several people behind "Jane the Virgin" being on it gives it confidence. That's a great show with strong characterization and storytelling both humorous and dramatic. Only question is how they'll handle the magical aspect.

I would rather see a sequel rather than a reboot... work in the originals like 90210 did back at the start. Loved that and Dynasty so im hopeful!

To be fair if it got canned after a season or two on CW it likely deserved it. CW has been pretty good with their shows if they perform well enough. And a reboot has a much better chance than a sequel.

I agree with others, a sequel comes with too much baggage. Sure, you can grab a random trio of kids from the sisters if you want, but it'd still come with the baggage of a large family. Fans would be all, "Well what about X other siblings? When are we gonna see them?" Any direct connect to the Halliwells basically comes with it which is a problem. The closest that could maybe work is if they only used one Halliwell but had her teamed with two other non-related witches, instead of sisters. Then they could at least downplay the Halliwell family but still have that connection and instead of biological sisters just go with the sisterhood of friends bit.

I see nothing wrong with rebooting it. Honestly I hope one sister tries to make a spellbook app or something though, that'd be funny. But what's this quote from Holly about? People are talking about it but I didn't see a link unless I missed it.

The people crying for a sequel series (including the old cast) don't focus on the other end of this thing, the villains. So little was ultimately done with The Source or The Triad or even Zankou that nobody even thinks of bad guys besides Cole.

THAT is why their universe needs a refresh.

Ah, this explains why Sabrina is headed for Netflix even though it's likely tied to Riverdale. Having two alternate witch-based shows on the same network is a little much, especially if they're not connected.
Actually, the old Sabrina and Charmed aired on The CW together for a couple of years.

I don't really mind if they did a sequel or reboot series. I just don't think it needs to come back. Although I'll admit the idea of a spellbook app sounds funny.

Oh yeah wow...sheesh. She really is all pissy over it. I mean, I get that it's their show, they had eight good years, but that was over a decade ago. There's basically nothing really known about the reboot aside from it being about a trio of women learning they're witches and that basically sounds like Charmed to me. But yeah...wow she's all kinds of uppity about it.

90210 wasn't a reboot. It was a sequel series to Beverly Hills, 90210.

Here's a panel from 2017, when the "prequel" idea was still floating around, and you can see her attitude toward the network and the new project on full display. (timestamped at 3 min 13 sec, for everyone's convenience).

Shannen Doherty is pretty positive about the idea of a Reboot, but like Holly, she has taken offensive to the 'feminist angle' that was mentioned in the CW tagline, as if Charmed didn't have that:

You nailed it. Their wording is terrible and a bit offensive. But, everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps with the backlash they will be more thoughtful in future.
Very ignorant stupid comment. Perhaps made by a millennial that never watched the show and just read a synopsis on it.

One representation that I personally want to see from this response is the Noble Male Witch. I'm very specific about this because this combination is a character that hasn't been seen in witch TV/film yet.

Since witchcraft and the organized religion Wicca are primarily Goddess-centered and female-empowering, it makes perfect sense that the female witch hero became an archetype. Wizard of Oz, Bewitched, Charmed, Practical Magic, and The Craft have firmly entrenched those characters, but it's time for different addition to these classics. There are also male practitioners of the same arts, who are overlooked or erased.

Nobility - Very often when male magic users enter the scene of a show involving magic, they're not entirely good people. They're often villains, or they walk a fine line using both good and evil magic, calling on good spirits one moment and demons another, and they find a way to use evil's magic against itself, John Constantine or the Supernatural boys. "Dabblers in the darker arts." He often dies, either sacrificing himself for a noble cause or claimed by the evil Faustian bargain he made. There should be a character who uses good magic and doesn't die for it.

Witch - There has almost never been a noble male character who calls himself specifically a witch, because the term has become almost completely associated with women. So there's always been an urge to rename men something else: whitelighter, wizard, warlock, mage, magician, conjurer, sorcerer. Harry Potter attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, but never once is he or any other male magic-user called a witch. And yet, we have a male comic superhero who calls himself Wiccan!

It's time the non-pagan general public stopped fearing male associations with "feminine" words and archetypes. It's time to stop scrabbling for more manly-sounding words in order to fit men into a female-majority paradigm. It's time to embrace the fact that Witch in the 21st century is a gender-neutral word and a gender-neutral occupation, and that men can be heroic witches, not villains or "borderwalkers" to make themselves present more deadly or manly.

I know the desire for Charmed to be a female-driven show, so I wouldn't expect NMW to be a main character. He can be recurring, but be an ally who lives all the way through and supports the heroines faithfully. Heck, make him a trans man if you want even more inclusivity, but just put him in the show. Magical men can stand behind heroic women leads and embrace exactly the same goals and titles as them without sacrificing any of their own dignity. In 2018, anyone who says otherwise has a pretty fragile ego.

I wonder what Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan's views on the upcoming reboot will be?

All 4 actresses said something about the CBS reboot: (from wikipedia)

Rose McGowan tweeted, "They really are running out of ideas in Hollywood," followed up by another tweet, "lame lame lame lamertons."[73] Alyssa Milano tweeted, "The thing about them doing a #charmed reboot is ... it just ... it feels like yesterday. It feels too close."[228] Holly Marie Combs tweeted, "Here's the thing. Everything is a reboot. If you think otherwise you haven't read enough Shakespeare yet. At least they had the decency to call it what it is. Instead of ripping it off and then pretending to not be ripping it off."[229] Shannen Doherty tweeted to a fan, "I don't know yet. It's strange to think about a reboot. I guess I'm still processing the idea."

If I recall, Alyssa Milano got really heated on twitter about it, saying they'd be better off doing a reunion movie.

I actually agree with the actresses that the way they phrased what the reboot is about is disrespectful to the original show.

A new name for the sisters, one of them is lesbian, and 'Phoebe' has a different power.

None of that bothers me except the power. Not because itís different but because itís pretty powerful and I donít wanna go through years of ďhes too strong to read his mind we have to do something elseĒ.

They could limit her by not being able to hear thoughts intentionally, it could still work like Phoebe's visions, with the power turning on when someone is in danger or when they subconsciously want to be heard or whatever reason they come up with.

Phoebe eventually became empathic anyway, so telepathic isn't much different.

LOL Pru-itt.

Based on the description it looks like they are shooting strait into the Paige years, which is fine by me I liked the Rose McGowan seasons more anyway. Though to be fair I've had limited experience with the Shannon Doherty seasons. I tried to watch it from the beginning, but I don't think I even got halfway through season 1.

Macy's boyfriend Galvin has now been cast.

Interestingly, it is stated that he is a co-lead.
