George Melies A Trip To The Moon....Toku before Toku?

Now Im probably looking like a moron right now....But I loved the the Toku charm of the fight against the Moon People. Again, Im probably looking like a freaking moron and its probably just the fact that this movie has inspired millions of moviemakers and been copied relentlessly, in these 116 years. But I loved this part.

I could see it having an influence on early Japanese cinema. There was (no surviving copies) a bootleg King Kong movie made in Japan either before or during WW2, so they definately had access to early Western cinema.

(Let alone the extremely well documented and often quoted studies on Disney influecning the eyes in anime that shows up in every english essay on anime ever.)

What I would give for either that King Kong flick, or even just a fraction of the 50%+ silent films that were destroyed, sometimes quite literally up in flames.

That does sound right, but any film could feel like a toku. Black Panther struck me as a souped up Power Ranger when I first saw it but the more I think about it, his story would be a great Kamen Rider origin story or even a series if extended right.

But yeah, the moon people do seem like precursors to the putties and the like

And the way they are fought plus the way they banish when they are defeated.

Well if you mean in the most literal use which is special effects than probably unless there was something older.

It's like I would probably consider something like The Lost World an early western Toku since it had a dinosaur rampage a major city, and inspired King Kong which in turn inspired Godzilla.
