Power Rangers Timeline

This is a project I was working on on Archie Sonic Online but that forum is now closed so I figured it'd be cool if I revived it here. http://archiesoniconline.com/board/i...p?topic=1442.0 this is the original thread I worked on. Also yes this timeline does take cues from Rovang's so I'm counting other Saban Shows. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to make them

Earth-1 The Main continuity. Includes the Comics despite my designating them as "Earth-5" Since for the most part they follow the progression of the show

MMPR. 4: A Pressing Engagement
MMPR. 5: Different Drum
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Annual 2017: Forever Mighty Morphin Black Arbitrary Placement. Chosen because of Zack's insecurity about if they're really cut out for being Rangers feels like it's still early into their time as Rangers. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Annual 2016: It's Putty Time! Almost certainly Non-Canon due to it's complete absurdity even by PR standards. Placed here as Tommy's sporting a Ponytail and the Classic Putties are featured
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Annual 2017: Sabrina's Day Off Arbitrary Placement. Mention of Tommy having a Ponytail places it after Return of an Old Friend. Return of an Old Friend part 2 is also Scorpina's last major appearance until Goldar's Vice-Versa where she also used the Sabrina disguise

I have questions and notes. Like, for one, isn't the timeline pretty simply linear? The show airs chronologically, so is there really that much to put together in a timeline? Each season is roughly a year give or take a storyline, each year takes place when it airs, I think you can just list the episodes out in order and get a timeline.

The comics really don't count towards the show continuity, even if they roughly follow the timing of the show, the comics are still set in modern times and the show is set in the 90s when it aired. The comic simply uses the show as a template for backstory, then creates its own from there. It then intensely veers off and away from established continuity as soon as it can.

I don't think you can really count any other Saban show besides Masked Rider and TMNT: Next Mutation as being part of the PRU, though. There's nothing to suggest they share a story universe unlike the crossover episodes in PR with MR/TMNT. Otherwise, yeah, they too would flow concurrently alongside PR as it aired, if you are going to include them. There's not really any contradiction or overlap to cause any kind of problem timeline wise. It's just episode order for those shows too. At best you would just put them wherever they aired as far as a timeline went then, I don't recall them ever airing together with PR as much as in between seasons or episode breaks.

Personally I would have liked to see a more indepth look at the timeline in the boom comic since, before shattered grid, they were all one timeline. I think it would have been neat to see how RPM's world affected Samurai and how Dino Charge's finale was taken care of.

Don't the comics outright contradict elements of the show?

Like doesn't BOOM Rita talk about an older brother, whereas in the TV show Rito was her baby brother?
Also, in BOOM, Rita's mother is shown to be good and estranged from Vile, whereas in the TV show Rito makes it sound like their parents were all evil.

It's been a while since I've read some of the comics, so I might be misremembering.

Fair enough but you also have seasons that take place in the future, a crapton of time travel, and season that are set in completely separate dimensions. I wanted to tray and give everything a proper placement.

I realty don't think the comics are that contradictory. There are some things that don't line up perfectly and yes the setting is different but for the most part the comics seem to run parallel to the show. I still do consider them a different Universe but I still feel they're close enough that rewriting the Episodes connected to the various GO Go Arcs would be redundant.

Mostly I'm just using minor things like the idea that Hayley's last name was supposedly Ziktor and Bulk and Skull reading Beetleborgs comics to count them. I'll admit it's not the strongest evidence of a shared universe in the world but still.

This. Instead of listing every episode, it would be easier to just list notes about the episodes that AREN'T in chronological order. I did that a few years back, but I haven't updated it for anything after Super Megaforce.

I haven't read the comics, but as far as I know, they aren't a self-contained story. They take place around the events of the show, even if the two are set in different "present days". So a guide to how they relate would probably be usefual to newbies, or those o us who haven't been following them and want to catch up.

Now, that doesn't need to be part o a whole timeline - but why not? Rovang's was always cool.

Goddammit! I'll fix that I genuinely didn't notice that I missed it in my transfer from ASO.

Why is Sky's dad Time Force Red? Why did Deviot pitch an idea to Grumm? They're reused costumes on a budget television show. It's not that deep.

Actually, you make an interesting point here.

Who knows if Art Fortunes didn't happen upon those generals at some odd point in time scouting Earth and base the Astralborgs on their design. A nice idea for fanfic tendrils.

I've actually been working on a timeline myself as well, but I tried putting in every medium into the timeline (TV Show, Movies, Comics, Magazines, Video Games, other videos like the OO Training video,...).

Your timeline is basically the same as mine with the only differences being with having the comics in the main timeline and naming everything earth.

I would honestly make multiple multiverses:

The Main Multiverse
Main Dimension (TV MMPR-JF, S-SMF, NStl-HF)
TV Dino Charge Dimension
TV RPM Dimension

Comic Multiverse
Main Dimension
Comic Dino Charge Dimension
Comic RPM Dimension
Drakkon Dimension/Timeline

2017 Movie Multiverse
Main Movie, Aftershock, LW, Showdown, Tommy VS Ryu

And then there would be all of the alternate timelines, like the one HyperForce created in the last episode, Dino Charge, Time Force,...

My theory as to why the comic and tv multiverses are seperate is, because there probably was something that happened in the main Multiverse that not only made an alternate timeline, but a complete seperate multiverse. Because the HyperForce Rangers wouldn't have been able to actually travel to Drakkon's Dimension. They can only travel through Multiverses/Dimensions with the Hyper stream, not timelines (as seen in ep 25).

Really hope this all maked kinda sense. It's pretty much just a fan theory I've had since I started my timeline.

The placement is still the same, though. It happens in an alternate dimension, roughly when it aired as far as timing goes. In the future, it's wherever/whenever the storyline says it lands. It just seems like you're making this sound more complicated than it is, when all you really need is the episode list.

I realty don't think the comics are that contradictory. There are some things that don't line up perfectly and yes the setting is different but for the most part the comics seem to run parallel to the show. The comics honestly haven't really acknowledged anything from the show that isn't a generalized summary of what the show was about yet. Backstories are different, personalities are different, relationships between characters are different, all this extra stuff is introduced that just gets in the way of the regular show's storyline as we saw it. I don't understand what episodes connect to GO GO arcs, considering how much of GG was new backstory that doesn't fit the show time frame. Is it redundancy if that rewriting only further separates the timelines though?

Well that's just it, they don't relate. Especially because of the modern setting and ultimate character differences from the show to comic. They don't even really revolve around the events of the show, just the basic premise of a team forming and getting a new ranger, the actual context is unclear and what we have seen was different than anything the show did.

Um, am I missing something with including the 3 original TMNT movies? Those don't have connections to PR or Saban do they?

The Next Mutation was technically a sequel series to the films. Technically.

So it's right, but feels so wrong.

As stupid as it sounds, TNM makes more sense if you have it take place after the 2007 TMNT film as well as the 90s trilogy (and you even have the justification of them not being teenagers anymore in the former while they are in the latter). At least that movie hints at Shredder returning, rather than him popping up in the series, business as usual, like we didn't see him get crushed to death.

Even so, the continuity issues between TNM and the 90s films are pretty fucking dire. And come to think of it, I still haven't gotten an exact source for the Eastman quote about it being a sequel to the movies.

Updated the timeline to include the Unlocked Story Variant (Can't believe there's a canon variant cover but ok) Moved Necessary Evil to just after the Stone Canyon Trio became Rangers. If Scorpina shows up I'll move it again. And added the episodes 9 and 10 of Beast Morphers as well as the opening flashback of Rangers Forever.

I'll be honest but I don't really consider the comics to be set the same continuity as the TV series.
