Adult Swim is bringing back one of the series that helped the network make a name for itself this fall: Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. The mash-up of classic cartoons will return for a half-hour special later this year, titled Harvey Birdman, Attorney General.

Adult Swim dropped early plot and casting details as part of an in-character press release. The gist: supervillain President Phil Seben (again voiced by Stephen Colbert) has appointed Harvey Birdman as the country's new attorney general. But Harvey isn't going to use the position to serve President Seben. Instead, he's using the power of the judicial system to get him out of office. Hopefully.

Along with Colbert, much of the original voice cast will reprise their roles, including Gary Cole as Harvey. Adult Swim hasn't said much else about the animated special beyond those details, but we're stoked for more of the deadpan cartoon this fall, even if it's just a one-off.
Heck freaking yes. Loved Harvey Birdman back in the day as the concept of all these H-B cartoons together in this odd situation blew my mind back then. Hoping Attorney General will lead to a full series, or at least be a good one-off.

This was my second favorite Williams Street show ever, right after Space Ghost: Coast to Coast itself. I cannot wait for this new series--

I hope hope hope this special is the testing ground for a new series. I've been itching for a new Hanna-Barbara-esque show for a while now, and this would be close enough. Harvey Birdman possibly has one of the funniest ensemble casts I've ever seen in a cartoon. Seriously, usually a show has just one character that steals every scene they're in, but Birdman is crammed full of characters constantly stealing the scene from each other.

With me, I loved both the original Birdman repeats as a kid, and liked Harvey Birdman AaL.....before he became the butt monkey of his own show. Not saying the main character of a comedy can't be the focus point of the humilation time from time, but it was even handed before , with him getting to be on top of the situation time from time.

By the shows end he just served to be the staight man to everyone's else's gimmics (if actually funny gimmics.) I'm not even opposed to his wife constantly cheating on him for comedy's sake, except that was the gimmics of every female pop culture icon in Robot Chicken and 1/2 the other AS shows (and every abridged series influenced by AS at the time) so it always came off as more time filler, and an Adult Swim cliche, a cliche they already made tired before AS itself 5 years old.

Hopefully the new special will have a balance of the old and new magic, especially since Harvey sounds like he's basically trying to take Not-Trump down from the inside. And even if it does just end up like it's later seasons, that's not so bad because they were still funny (outside of Birdmans actual parts), and MILES above 1/2 the programming AS has anyway.
