Scooby-Doo/Hanna-Barbera Crossover Film

Scooby-Doo and his pals are returning to theaters in a couple of years. Instead of a live-action film, the movie will be a cartoon like most of the past series. Dax Shepherd has signed on to co-direct the film with Tony Cervone.
“Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters,” said WB executive Greg Silverman when plans for the feature were first announced. “As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”

Renowned animation icon Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb) is also bringing his creative sensibilities to the Scooby-Doo movie as an executive producer.

I'm hoping for the best for this project because I'm all for classic cartoons being revived on the big screen if they are done right. I was very happy when the Peanuts returned to theaters in the best way imaginable last year and hopefully the same can be done for this film.

ETA: News surfaced that Mystery Inc. will be having a crossover with other Hannah-Barbera characters.

Re-introduction? Are they not aware they've been pumping out Scooby Doo cartoon movies and shows non-stop for the past two decades? Or are they pretending that awful Seth McFarlene looking designs version never happened, because that's totally fine.

I would gladly take a season 3 of Mystery Inc over a new movie, but that'll never happen. Maybe using james Gunn's actual script this time. That'd be hilarious.

Did they just change S.C.O.O.B or are they having two Scooby Doo movies in the same year?

Champ September 10th, 2016 09:47 AM

If they go with Scooby Doo Apolypose route, I'll be up for this.

It was previously referred to the title, but the news did not make any reference to that.

Can this franchise please just PICK something? It was living just fine off those TV and direct-to-video flims, we didn't need alternate continuity syndicated shows every other year. Seriously, DC and Marvel reboots are starting to look tame in comparison.

This was the first thing I thought.

Make Professor Pericles the villain again, get Udo Kier to voice him again, and I'll be there.

We're now going to have to wait till May 15, 2020 to see the film.

Were you? Were you, really? From the writer/director of Chips? And the writer of Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief?

Mefista May 3rd, 2017 07:24 PM

If I'll cry real, real hard, would they cancel it?

AngieYaz May 3rd, 2017 07:35 PM

I'm one of few people that actually LIKES the old live-action film, but let's see how this one turns out.

I like Apocalypse as much as the next guy, but it is honestly one of the most "non-scooby" in the franchise. We need more like Mystery Inc.

To be fair, I haven't actually seen either of those movies.

But I just like the idea of another Scooby Doo movie, especially if this is the one that kicks off the Hanna Barbera cinematic universe, (Seriously, did we ever get the clarification whether this was replacing that S.C.O.O.B movie or not?) because a Hanna Barbera cinematic universe is a ridiculous idea, but it'll probably at least be entertaining to see how the hell they'd combine everything.

Scrappy doesn't need to be anywhere near anything Scooby-Doo related ever again.

If this is gonna be animated though, I'm guessing they'll bring in a celebrity voice cast for the gang. I'm not keen on anyone but Frank Welker voicing Freddy, since he's voiced him in everything Scooby related for the past 48 years with the exception of "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo".

I'll believe that when I see it.

They stole my damn Hong Kong Phooey movie from me. :(
