when did you discover sentai?
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I didn't know about sentai until I came to RB. Watching MMPR-LG, I had no idea sentai existed, so when I did find out about sentai, suddenly I could see all the editing mistakes PR made.

During the Turbo season I noticed ALOT of Japanese road signs and such... I was sorta pissed that PR wasn't an original show and I always thought the sentai footage was just for big explosions but was still American made (which it obviously isn't).
Then i got internet in 1997 and did research from there and ordered my first videos of Megaranger.
I enjoyed it but couldn't get too much into it because it was in Japanese and I had no clue what they were saying. THEN... The HK DVD's came out with subtitles and I ordered Hurricanger and Gaoranger (complete series) and I love the show!.
That's my story.

well' i've known for a few years that power rangers was based on a japanese show, but I really discovered sentai about a year and half ago, and have been learning about it ever since, I've even tried to get my friends into it.
i've seen 3 eps of zyuranger, 5 or 6 eps of dairanger, 2 eps of kakuranger, 1 ep of ohranger, 1 ep of megaranger, 1 ep of gingaman, 2 eps of hurricanger, and about 3 or 4 eps of abaranger, add i've also seen a little kamen rider and gransazers as well

Uh oh not this again. This is getting old I use to hear about RB doing threads about when did you discover sentai. Anyways I always knew about sentai since 1993 when USA Today did an article about it. Also my parents are in the military so we went to japan once but I only saw Ultraman and Kamen Rider but no sentai. Luckily my friend Mio and her brother Gary recorded episodes. So that's when I discovered sentai.

There was a huge page of Gingaman movies and megaranger final episodes I think belonged to Jill before she decided to start doing summaries instead of doing of .ram .ra files of episodes each and every day of the week back in 1998.
Also, if you think about it, the author of Scanranger and Jill were the first people online at time till 1999 to provide viewers that was sentai there. Then came Astroranger, Molly, etc.

when I'd first heard about sentai, it was on a talk show that come on inthe mornings, like Good Morning, America or something, and I think they had had some PR actors on there and others, and it was explained about how PR came form sentai, etc.

I discovered Sentai when I became a member of the Rangerboard. I always knew that PR came from Japan but I never knew PR contained footage from their Japanese TV counterparts and I never knew it was called "Sentai."

Well i remember seeing an interview with Ham Saban on 20/20 back when MMPR first came out. I remember him saying it was created in japan, and adapted here. So i always knew where it truley came from, but around the time of PRiS is when i started looking up all the info on it. And then this year i bought my first sentai. On ebay i purchased Kamen Rider 555, volume 1 and 2, but they ended up sending me Abaranger volume 1 and 2 instead. I wasn't mad cause i knew this was the best chance to view the show, before it bacame PRDT in 2004. I'm happy with the DVD i love the dvd, and hope to buy more soon

I heard about the show's Japanese roots in articlesin TV Guide when it first came on, and when it became so popular I found Sentai tapes through toy publications. I hated Zyuranger, but Dairanger was (and is) the cooolest, and the newer ones have been pretty good so far.

I had always kind of knew about it, but didn't really know that much until lie 1999. As far as getting into it by watching eps, that happened just this year.

That's pretty much the case with me. The exact time of year and everything. Only I didn't order any videos until earlier this year (and those are from Gaoranger) and I did find Sentai sites in English. I think I also learned about Sentai from Amit Bhaumik's PROA site as well. He had a section on it that explained how Sentai is used for PR and why everything changes every year. So it all started to make sense to me after reading about that, as well as reading about all the types of Sentai that were used for PR, and the ones which came before Zyuranger. Then I was able to educate my other then-PR-viewing friends about it all.
Like you, I was upset that PR wasn't a completely original show, but I'm just glad that it's not necessarily a Voltron-ripoff like some people think. So if I ever meet anyone who goes into a discussion that PR ripped off Voltron, I can really let them know what's up and set them straight.

I spent my first 5.5 years of life in Taiwan. I enjoyed watching tapes of Maskman and KR Black/RX back then. Having liked Maskman, it is only natural that I began watching PR when it came out here.

I have been watching Sentai since I was born. My Dad got into Goranger back in 75, and he's kept up with it since then.

^^ thats cool that your dad watches it with you and is into it.
My dad actually told me about this comic book series called "Lie pie?" Not sure how its really spelled. Its korean, but apparently from there Sentai was derived. (remember this is what my dad says, so don't jump all over me)
I didn't know anything about Sentai until I saw RB. And it was PRNS that made me come to RB. I'd watched other seasons, here and there, but NS made me a steady fan. Actually, when I first found out that PR was not authentic, that it was taken from Sentai, I was so ticked and dissapointed. Not to bash Sentai, but I had loved PRIS and was starting to love PRNS, but I was sooo annoyed at finding that none of the actors did their own stunts, FX, etc. Oh well, I got over that pretty fast though.
I love Sentai. Bought Hurricanger DVD's, loved the series and on the lookout for more Sentai.
