Kamen Rider Dragon Knight: The Reboot
Kamen Rider Dragon Knight: The Reboot
Okay, first off, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight was brilliant and 100x better than Saban's Masked Rider. However, there were some flaws that I didn't really agree with, like the Mirror World being called Ventara and being an alien world, and while the idea of good Riders vs. evil Riders was cool, it still rung Power Rangers. So when I heard Dragon Knight got cancelled, I jumped at the opportunity to create a reboot, even though it may never come to light. So, using elements from both Dragon Knight and its Japanese counterpart Ryuki, I came up with a new version of Dragon Knight. Here is the synopsis:
Behind every reflective surface lies the Mirror World, a place similar to ours but filled with man-eating creatures called Mirror Monsters. 10 years ago, a college student named Kyle Young discovered the portal into the Mirror World, but in the process, lost his life.
However, 10 years later, Kyle Young, now calling himself Xaviax, resurfaces, having returned to a world on the brink of destruction. Disgusted with the way humanity's desires have corrupted the Earth, Xaviax unleashes the Mirror Monsters to purge the Earth of corruption. However, he has developed another solution. Using his scientific genius, Xaviax has created 13 Advent Decks for the soul purpose of creating a Rider War. Fueled by their desires, these 13 individuals would create Contracts with Mirror Monsters and battle each other until one Rider remains. The winner's victory will then determine the ultimate fate of humanity's survival, may it be good...or evil.
Having found a mysterious card Deck, a young man named Kit Taylor finds himself thrown into the middle of the Rider War. After forming a Contract with a Dragon named Dragredder, Kit becomes Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. After allying himself with Len, a man who formed a Contract with Darkwing to become Kamen Rider Wing Knight, Kit joins the Rider War not only to protect people from the Mirror Monsters, but to bring an end to the Rider War and ultimately ensure humanity's survival.
Wow, that was a long synopsis. Now here are the Kamen Riders:
• Dragon Knight (Kit Taylor): A young man who stumbles across an Advent Deck given to him by a stranger killed by Dragredder. Kit then forms a Contract with Dragredder to become Kamen Rider Dragon Knight to protect people and end the Rider War.
• Wing Knight (Len) - A young man whose fiance was put in a coma by Darkwing (a Bat Monster), Len is given an Advent Deck by Xaviax as a way to get her out of the coma and forms a Contract with the very same Monster to become Kamen Rider Wing Knight. Like Kit, he also wants to protect people, but prefers to work alone and in his own way. He is at first cold to Kit but eventually the two become friends and allies.
• Incisor (Richard Preston) - A corrupt police detective, Preston accepted Xaviax's offer to become a Rider. Fueled by his desire to be notorious, Richard Preston fights as Kamen Rider Incisor with his Contract Monster, Volcancer (a Crab Monster).
• Torque (Drew Lansing) - A con man with a desire to become extremely wealthy, Lansing joins the War and forms a Contract with Magnugiga (a Minotaur robot-like Monster) to become Kamen Rider Torque.
• Strike (James Trademore AKA JTC) - A national criminal wanted for computer hacking and several other felonies , JTC joins the Rider War to gain omnipotence. His Contract Monster is a giant Cobra, Venosnaker. He has a personal grude against Drew Lansing (Kamen Rider Torque), who sold him out to the FBI. JTC later Contracts with the Monsters of Kamen Riders Sting and Thrust; along with Venosnaker, the Monsters can combine to become Genocider.
• Sting (Chris Ramirez) - A Marine with a strong sense of duty. Chris' brother was originally offered to become a Rider after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given the chance to cure his disease. He declined and was devoured by a Monster afterwards. Chris then forms a Contract with Evildiver (a Manta Ray Monster) to become Kamen Rider Sting and allies himself with Dragon Knight and Wing Knight to end the Rider War.
• Thrust (Brad Barrett) – The son of a wealthy entrepreneur, Barrett enjoys toying with peoples’ lives and joined the Rider War simply out of fun. His Contract Monster is Metalgelas, a Rhino Monster.
• Axe (Sean Talon) – A social outcast who strives to be accepted, yet struggles to control his thirst for violence. Hoping to conquer his bloodthirsty nature, Sean joins the Rider War as Kamen Rider Axe after forming a Contract with Destwilder (a white Tiger Monster).
• Spear (Allen Warren) – A mercenary craving a new challenge, Warren accepts Xaviax’s offer to fight in the Rider War and forms a Contract with Gigazelle (a gazelle Monster) to become Kamen Rider Spear.
• Camo (Grant Staley) – An underground martial artist who fights to be the toughest man on the street, willing to cheat if necessary. As a result, Staley becomes Kamen Rider Camo who, with Biogreeza (a chameleon Monster), now fights to be the toughest man in the world.
• Siren (Kase Matthews) – A rich girl with a knack of thrill-seeking, Kase takes Xaviax’s offer to fight in the Rider War as Kamen Rider Siren and forms a Contract with Blancwing (a Swan Monster) and fights not only for the thrill, but to avenge her family’s name after JTC (Kamen Rider Strike) stole half a billion dollars from her family’s bank account.
• Onyx – When Kit felt he was unable to protect people, Xaviax offered him the Onyx Deck to achieve more power at the cost of selling his soul. Under the Onyx Deck’s dark influence, Kit formed a Contract with Dragblacker (a black version of Dragredder yet more powerful) and ruthlessly battled the other Riders until he came to his senses. Abandoning the Onyx Deck, Xaviax was able to get a hold of Kit’s DNA and cloned a heartless version of Kit named Adam. Fueled by anger and hate, Adam now uses his new powers as Kamen Rider Onyx and seeks to destroy Kit. Only then will he feel whole…
• Wrath – In case his plan was close to failing, Xaviax chose an unknown man to be the puppet of the Wrath Deck. With his Contract Monster Goldphoenix (a Phoenix Monster), Wrath is meant to be Xaviax’s personal representative in the War under his influence, ensuring Xaviax’s victory in the War and the extinction of humanity.
During the course of the series, a government agency known as the No-Men becomes aware of the Rider War after the many mysterious deaths of people at the hands of Mirror Monsters rise. After obtaining a hold of Kyle Young (Xaviax)’s notes, the No-Men create their own Kamen Rider…
• Alternative Zero (Logan Summers) – A member of the No-Men who is chosen to be Kamen Rider Alternative Zero, armed with the Zero Deck and tasked with the mission to end the Rider War. Alternative Zero’s Contract Monster is Psycorogue, a Cricket robot-like Monster that was captured and confined by the No-Men and can transform into a motorcycle. Tasked with ending the Rider War, he realizes that the only way to end the War is to win it.
And finally, one more Rider that didn’t appear in Kamen Rider Ryuki but appeared in Ryuki’s world in Kamen Rider Decade…
• Abyss (Victor Stryker) – Perhaps the world’s deadliest assassin, Stryker accepted Xaviax’s offer to participate in the Rider War to prove his skills. Unlike the other Riders, Abyss has two Contract Monsters, Abysshammer (Hammerhead Shark Monster) and Abysslasher (Shark Monster) that can form to create Abyssodon (a giant Sawshark Monster).
Well, that’s my version of Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. Overall, it was a decent show (and had way better fights than Power Rangers and its original source), but it could have been better. So let me know what you think!
