Is mainstream American entertainment creatively dead?

It seems to me that entertianment, whether its movies, tv or music, it looks like the same old same old. Hollywood's mentality of remaking everything doesn't help matter either.

While the less known and independent stuff is more appealing to me and in some cases superior. Am I just picky or has mainstream entertaiment gone through the lather, rince, repeat cycle so offten that any real creativity is now 6 feet under.

What do think?

Well I'll say this much, I think I'd take Asian (specifically Japanese) music, movies, and dramas over 90 percent of what I see on tv down here in the states most of the time.

Entertainment's general purpose hasn't changed. What has changed is our perspective. After all, aren't all generations confused by the young kids' pop culture, love the stuff they grew up, and feel the way you do now when they're about that age?

I think the creativity will always exist, but it's not always as profitable as the tried-and-true formulas of the past, so that's what giant corporations are going to focus on.

Guess what, you're preferences have changed. That's it.

Media is just as brain-dead and just as amazing now as it was a decade or two ago. You simple may just not like what is offered to you now, it could be diend. Or you could wait a while and some form of media will catch you off guard and you will enjoy it just as much as you used to.

Quite a few people's prefrences on this board has switched to Japanese as their main focus and like, usualy because it's diffrent and despite all the remakes, rehashes, and reuse in Japanese media, they aren't used to it and thus it's "amazing" to them.

Of course forget the shows, forget the music. Go read a book.
