Famous Passings of 2017 - Gene Cernan Dead At 82

With the slew of celebrity/famous/noteworthy passings from 2016, it was felt that a more organized system was needed to keep things neat and tidy.

This thread is for all famous passings in 2017. We encourage members to continue to create separate threads for reporting. Source is required. RangerBoard staff will merge the threads when we've concluded that the separate threads have ran their course.

The most recent passing will be listed in the title. We will try to keep the passings organized here in the first post with the listing according to month of who, date, age and link within RangerBoard to find "said" passing.

This thread is not to vent on how much you dislike the year, world, or for whatever reason you have for the passing. It's to share a celebration of their life and legacy. You may vent your thoughts in the Venting thread, without religious discussion as that is against our rules.

Please use the Member Support section to contact us to clarify any questions you may have.

I like this idea. Still having separate threads means news won't pass unnoticed, but you won't end up with a lot of RIP threads knocking other topics off the first page. Also should prevent any more cases like the other day when a new thread got posted for someone who died six months ago and had a thread made at the time.

Not bad, half way through the day and only one death listed for today (compared to 20 on average each day last month) on Wikipedia so far, and it's likely you won't recognise the name - an African politician, Emmanuel Niyonkuru of Burundi, was assassinated at 12.45am local time.

Don't spam this thread, I specifically wrote its only purpose is to discuss the legacy of those that pass this year, nothing more.

Wow I didn't know Luigi was voiced by someone different in those 2 shows. Oh well RIP Tony. You make sure EVERYONE up there knows it's MAMA LUIGI to them.

(Forgot all about the famous passings thread...my bad, thanks mods.)

Yeah, I only know him from the Mario cartoons...sounds like that illness he had was brutal on his family, at least he's free from it.

You're supposed to make separate threads, it's in this thread's information. We merge them as we feel if the separate's thread necessary or had enough time on its own.

I checked to see if there was a seperate thread for him, but I didn't see any..

Anyway, I will always remember him as the voice of Luigi from the 2nd and 3rd Mario Cartoons...

You also need to check if it's been reported in the main Famous Passing thread. If it has, then there's no need to make a separate one.

RIP William Peter Blatty (1928-2017)

William Peter Blatty best known as the author as well as screenwriter for The Exorcist has died aged 89. He also was the author/screenwriter/director of The Ninth Configuration and also the screenwriter/director for The Exorcist III. RIP. I saw The Ninth Configuration for the first time last year. It's an odd but interesting film. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it. http://www.indiewire.com/2017/01/wil...in-1201768492/

Noooo! I love the Exorcist, I read the novel a couple years ago, ans well as 9th Configuration and Legion (later adapted as Exorcist III). I love all of them, and I love most of the film series. This sucks.

RIP Mr. Blatty.

Hollywood stuntwoman Paula Dell has died at age 90. She did stunt work for Julie Andrews in Star! (1968) and Jaclyn Smith on the original Charlie’s Angels series. Her other work includes Camelot , Blazing Saddles, Airplane! and Mystery Men.

RIP Dick Gautier

The actor, best known as Hymie the Robot on Get Smart, has died at age 85.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...Top+Stories%29

In addition to playing Hymie, he also played Robin Hood on When Things Were Rotten (another show created by Mel Brooks) and did cartoon voice work, most notably Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime on Transformers, Serpentor on GI Joe and the two halves of Magnacore on Inhumanoids.

He was awesome as Serpentor. Need to look at TF season 3 again to be more familiar with his Rodimus. RIP.

Very sad, probably the first major loss of 2017 so far, very awesome actor and performer, if I want to get a Rodimus Prime toy, model signed, will have to go with Judd Nelson now, would have been epic if I had gotten both.

Hymie.... 😢

And he was Batman for a moment (i.e. that 1972 Euqal Pay commercial w/ Burt Ward and Yvonne Craig while Adam West was distancing himself from the show at the time)

Heard about this on the Philly college station: Richie Ingui of the Soul Survivors (who sang the classic 60s hit "Expressway to Your Heart") died Friday.
