Never liked the taste of alcohol, never felt the desire to overcome that distaste.

Never smoked, partly thanks to common sense, partly thanks to an incident when VERY young and a family friend thought it would be cute to take my picture with his (still lit) cigar in my mouth. Instead I puked all over his shoes!

Never felt any desire to try recreational drugs. There's enough weird shit going on in my head WITHOUT additives, that I never saw the need.

WOO BOOZE!

I'm a specialist drinker. I dont go out often or drink alone, or enjoy wine or anything.

I save it all up for once a month and binge it all in one night.

WOO BOOZE!

Huh, is that what they call it? "Straight Edge"?

Fair enough then, yeah I guess that's me. I've never smoked, never taken drugs.

I can't say I've never had alcohol, but I very rarely touch the stuff. And even when I do, it's only a small amount as a "one-off". I've never been drunk, not even slightly tipsy. In fact, one Snowball at New Years is an occasional tradition of mine, and that can then be the only alcohol I'll have all year.

Yeah, that's right, I said Snowball. I'm outta control man!

I am. I'm not preachy about it but when my dad died from alcoholism at 14 I vowed never to drink or do anything else like it.

I may not be straight edge fully.....

I smoke cigarettes but I cant drink. I was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). I was told that when I was born the doctor thought I was down syndrome but it turned out to be FAS. He also said that I have a 80% chance of becoming an alcoholic if I start drinking. He blamed my mother for this but recent studies show that it can come from the father now too.

I have a clean life lol. A few of my friends smoke cigs and drink sometimes but not enough to be in serious trouble. Thing is they never ask me if I want some because they already know the answer.

I used to be straight edge and I won't lie... I had a HUGE superiority complex about it. I thought I was better than anyone that drank smoke partied etc. Then I hit a point in my life where everything fucking sucked and believe it or not, alcohol actually liberated me. I don't use it as a crutch (continual or otherwise) nor would I recommend self medicating using a substance, but I'm definitely not straight edge now, but I feel like its made me a better person as I'm not as judgmental cruel or repressed as I used to be.

Please know that I'm not stating anyone who is straight edge are any of those things, I'm just saying being straight edge for me never worked and, if anything, just caused problems in my life.

On a side note, I love that people say they don't like the taste of alcohol, and that's one of the reasons they don't drink. Reason being, that many people that DO drink alcohol (some on a regular basis) can't stand the taste themselves. Most will tell you it's the effect the drink has on them and not the taste theyre interested in.

So that's what it's called... after Googling this term, I am definitely "straight edge" though I'm no "punk" at all. Not sure if this even relates to music but I got a lot of results mentioning punk music, etc. I don't even like this type of music as I was raised on classical music when I had piano lessons growing up.

Tried my first sip of alcohol when I turned legal age a few years ago and it was revolting. Absolutely hated the taste and sensation in my mouth, and never had a desire to try it again. Never saw the appeal in smoking either, not to mention, I just hate being around people who smoke ever since I was a kid. And drugs... hmmm... I guess toys are my drugs... Toys were a huge distraction that prevented me from wanting to spend money on anything else.

I also hate parties and never go to them so it's kept me out of reach of these things as well.

Uh, yeah, all that shit is stupid. It just is. Temporary high, no long-term benefits, loss of money, potentially leads to jailtime, and only legal in the first place for the Government to make cash.

That said, at least marijuana has some benefits. Alcohol is just stupid.

hehe not the only one free in that area, with all the diseases out there im not about to take a chance on that with anyone, no matter how attractive the lady would be(and personal behavioral things but i wont bore anyone with that),,, and there is also the issue of being ugly as hell in my caseeven my reflection laughs at me(sometimes pointing down)

I wish there was, but unfortunately there isn't. And now I'm on a clinical trial med too.

that has to suck, are they at least doing any good for you? id almost be willing to bet you have to get blood tests to see if your liver is taking any damage, this pill pushing quack i went to(and likely will never go see again) wanted to put me on seroquel, hehe NO! i bet your doc is just taking a quick fix approach instead of trying to find a non chemical way to help you(i think drugs should be a last resort or next to last reort, not a go to option)

I used to be straightedge, not because I wanted to be on a higher moral level, but because I've always seen any form of smoking as utterly disgusting. I can't tolerate the smell of any form of tobacco or weed, and I've never had the desire to do any other type of drug because I don't need it to feel good. Occasionally I'll drink, but it's not something I go out and do every weekend. The important thing is that I don't need to drink to have fun and I don't need any substance as a crutch.

I'm quite the drinker myself. Usually around 2 or 3 nights a week with friends. But I'm still young, and I work night shift, so when I'm off I'm up all night anyway. Hasn't hurt me so far.
I've had a few run ins with other drugs back in the day too. The two most well known were probably weed and cocaine. Weed messed me up way too bad to the point I couldn't function, and I really hated it. Cocaine, honestly was not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I felt a little bit hyper and jittery and that's it. No high or anything. That is a completely stupid waste of money.

I don't smoke anymore. It's too expensive and pointless, and now smoking makes me sick.

I won't quit drinking anytime soon though. Unfortunately both my parents were alcoholics, so I really probably should watch myself, but I believe I'm okay for now. When I have kids though I'm quitting completely, because I don't want my kids to see me how I saw my parents.

Yes. This is what I was going to say.

I am by no means Straight Edge, I'm not even Straight! Hahahah.

I drink socially, with friends at the club or at parties. It's a social lubricant, and it's fine in moderation. But the difficult thing is knowing what one's limits are.

I've even experimented with drugs when I was younger, I had a really good friend who convinced me to try some things with him. I tried them and didn't necessarily dislike the effects, some were scary as hell and some just made everything weird, but I knew I didn't want to keep doing things like that and stopped. He kept going and got addicted to them, and still is doing drugs on and off.

I know it's a lifestyle choice, and just like everyone who isn't walking the straight and narrow (which would be difficult to define, don't you think?) it's empowering and important to find other people doing the same thing to identify with.
