Synopsis: Hundred of years later, the evil Empress of the mythical Heavens was resurrected. What will become of the existing world when the heroes that vanquished her before no longer exists? Will three descendents of their heroic ancestors be able to defeat her?

Chapter 1: Celestial Powers - Part 1

Thunder rumbled the sky below the dark rain clouds. A man, cloaked with a black cape, stood as the edge of a building. As lightning streaked across the sky, the momental flash revealed him praying in some sort of way. "It is coming..." He pushed the dark cape to the side and ran off.
“NOOO!” Edwin yelled and burst into tears as he woke up.

Edwin’s shouting mercifully yanked him from the clutches of his recurrent nightmare. This was the third time he had the same dream of a young lady in her twenties wearing a thick fur coat in blue fighting with an angry black-scaled dragon and was destroyed by a breath of green beam from the dragon’s mouth. He sat on his bed, staring into darkness. As he pondered over why the lady had stirred such strong emotions in him, he got up and unlocked the keypad on his handphone. The digital numbers glowed in the dark room. It was four in the morning! He was startled. Strangely, the last two times he had had the same nightmare, he had woken up at the exact same time. He went back to sleep, as he wanted to wake up at six in the morning to wash up for school.

“Edwin! Wake up!” Edwin’s mom, Lillian interrupted his sleep, screaming at him from his bedside as always.
“But Mom…” grumbled Edwin. “No more buts little boy, get yourself off your bed and into the bathroom now!”

After sitting on his bed for about a minute or so, he reluctantly threw back his blanket and trudged into his bathroom in his blue t-shirt and pants.

Edwin gave himself an once-over in the mirror while running his right hand through his messy hair. Absently he noticed his puffy eyes, in his mind he was thinking about the nightmare he had. Who was this lady and why was she fighting with a dragon? He knew he had to forget all about it, unless, of course, he wanted the nightmare again. So, pushing the thoughts to the back of his mind, he brushed his teeth and climbed into the shower.

While Edwin toweled himself dry, he decided to call Esther, his online best friend, intending to ask her about how she felt about school reopening.
She was the same age and had similiar likes as him. He knew her through the internet and a strangely close friendship bond formed between them.

Edwin walked to the living room with his towel around his neck. As he was reaching for the crimson-coloured house phone, again came his mom’s voice. But this time she yelled that breakfast was ready. But when Edwin made the call, he had her answering machine. He hung up in the middle of her dad’s outgoing message. Edwin checked the time again. It was six thirty. He started to get ready and went to have the breakfast that was prepared in advance by his mother. Apparently his mother was in the shower.

"Bye mom!" he said as he got into the hallway.

He took the same shortcut through the isolated basketball court to get to school. Stepping onto the court, Edwin took in a lungful of January air. He stood still for a moment and shut his eyes, trying to get more of the fresh air. Just then a gale of wind blew past him and he opened his eyes.

Edwin stared at the ground as a puddle of water suddenly appeared in front of him. Streams of water spiraled fast till it reached a height of about two metres. A woman in her forties appeared in shiny blue sparkles and the water disappeared. Edwin was astonished.

“What the…” muttered Edwin nervously. “Is that you, Mom?”

“Hello son." Lillian replied seriously. “I’ve been thinking the whole night now… I got to tell you something.” Edwin was listening closely.

“Legend has it that our ancient ancestors were immortals. A few thousands year ago, Heaven and Earth were ruled by Jadesco and Rubica, who were the Emperor and the Empress of Heaven. During a trip to the mortal world, Jadesco fell in love with a mortal lady and had a baby with her. Rubica found out and was devastated and she killed the mortal lady. Since then, during a period of one hundred years, she was turned from a celestial to a celestial demon…”

“What the heck is a celestial demon!” interjected Edwin rudely.

“DON’T INTERRUPT!” Lillian continued. “A celestial demon is half celestial and half demon, which can prove to be really powerful combination. Then one day, the years of hatred Rubica had for Jadesco was finally unleashed. Jadesco knew this day would come, so he combined forces with his brother of the mortal world, Glaciald, and tried to destroy Rubica. Jadesco and Glaciald fought a deadly battle with Rubica. She killed Jadesco and the whole celestial heaven turned dark. Having sustained severe injuries, Glaciald flew back to the mortal world to seek help from his daughter, the Goddess of Water, who was our very first ancient ancestor. She got help from the Summoner of Lightning and Protector of Volcano. Together they fought the evil Rubica. Rubica got help too, from her demonic ally, the Black Dragon.”

Edwin was startled at the word ‘Black Dragon’…

“Sadly, Goddess of Water was destroyed by the Black Dragon by…”

“WAIT! Was it a breath of green beam?!” Edwin cut in.

“How did you know… however Black Dragon was destroyed after the water talisman, formed from the essence of Goddess of Water, hit it hard on its head. The talisman had a Chinese carving of water. Recalling that their parents told them the essence of themselves could prove to be the most powerful weapon in the world, they sacrificed themselves and Summoner of Lightning’s essence formed the yellow lightning talisman and Protector of Volcano’s essence formed the red fire talisman. Rubica descended to the mortal world. The three talismans formed a circle around Rubica but she tried to retaliate, to no avail. Rubica was destroyed and her essence was dissipated throughout the universe. As for the celestial heaven, due to the absence of Jadesco, it disappeared and all the celestials fell to the mortal world. The talismans were said to have been passed down the water, lightning, and fire celestial generations till now…” Lillian stopped as she took a circular object out of her pocket.

It was indeed the water talisman. Hard and steel blue-coloured, it was carved with the Chinese character of water on it.

“I’ve been guarding it since my grandmother handed it to me when I was ten… She told me…”

Before Lillian could continue, the carving on the talisman glowed in white light. It rose and floated around Edwin. Edwin lifted his hands and the talisman landed softly on his right palm. It was warm and he felt strange.

“No… could it be that… you’re the one?” Lillian hugged Edwin. “My grandmother once said that when the talisman reacts to a descendant, that means it has found its owner!”

“You mean… WOW! This is so awesome… but how…” Edwin was interrupted before he could continue.

“No more buts, hurry to school! Make sure you don’t reveal anything to anyone about this!” Lillian nagged as she released him. “The time will come for you to learn how to make good use of this power.” “And also, you can shift from one place to another like me now… so get going now, look into your heart and you will know!” With that, a puddle of water appeared and streams of water spiraled around her and she disappeared in shiny blue sparkles.

Edwin held the talisman securely in his right hand and took a peek at his watch. It was almost time for his school assembly. Edwin quickly paced towards the nearest block at sight. After making sure he was alone, he then closed his eyes and concentrated. Suddenly a puddle of water crystallized below him and he fell in. Before he knew it, he fell on his shoes and he found himself on the field behind his school. He got up, arranged himself and walked towards the.
The last bell of the day chimed and Edwin met up with his two best friends in the school cafeteria.
“Sorry guys, am I late?” Edwin apologized as he tried to catch his breath. His two best buddies, Shawn and Dan, were waiting for him outside the cafeteria.
"Yo!" greeted Dan.
“Nah, we are just early, as usual.” joked Shawn. They laughed.
“What's for lunch?!” asked Edwin.
"Gotta be my favourite, beef spaghetti topped with onion rings!" said Dan as he rubbed his belly.
“Let’s go find a table to put our bags, the bones of my shoulders are beginning to make cracking sounds!” Shawn joked again.
They joked with one another as they made their way to find a table to settle down.
“Guys, let’s settle here!” suggested Shawn.
“Nice choice! We can get a pretty good view of scenery from here!” complimented Edwin.

"Hey guys!" A girl with her hair tied into a ponytail greet them.
"Hey Daphne!" greeted Shawn excitedly.
"I just came by to tell you guys that club meetings will resume starting from today." stated Daphne.
"That's great!" said Edwin happily.
"So wanna join us for lunch?" asked Dan.
"Sorry gotta get back home! Catch you guys soon!" said Daphne.
The trio waved as she paced away.
”Well this is a good day, I hope.” Shawn said looking at Daphne. Just then they heard a loud explosion that came from a nearby park. It aroused their curiosity as they made their way towards the park. Strange pumpkin-head creatures were attacking the people in the park vicinity. The ground shook vigorously as a grey cloud emerged from below. A woman, wearing a rather old-fashioned pink thick fur coat, appeared from the cloud.
“Stay here guys! I’ll go and see what’s going on!” advised Edwin.
“But…” Both of them replied.
“No buts… just please stay here for your own safety!” pleaded Edwin.

"Finally, I waited so long for this! This world will take the path towards destruction!" she laughed menacingly.
“Not if I can help it!” Edwin shouted as he ran towards her.
“You, a kid? What a joke! Do you know who I am?” She boasted with a laugh.
“Are you Rubica?!” asked Edwin calmly.
"Yes I am! And you are?"

Just then, Edwin heard a familiar voice calling him. He turned back and saw Daphne running towards him.

“Are you in trouble facing these costumed freaks and this old lady here?” Daphne asked Edwin sarcastically. She seemed unusually calm, but Edwin knew she was not any pushover. She then turned to Rubica and said, “Oh you gotta be kidding me! What’s with that whole outfit, that’s so yester-century!”

“Daphne? What’re you doing here? They ain’t costumed, they’re real!” replied Edwin anxiously.
“Ohhh… like that’s new to me! Two of us can handle these fools, right?” announced Daphne proudly.

“How interesting! A little kid I don’t recognize who knows my name and a teenybopper who has the nerve to call me an old lady. Here’s a little something for you two. ” She threw peanut-sized orange seeds onto damp soil. The seeds grew roots, which disappeared into the ground. “Arise!” She commanded. Vines sprouted and the seeds took root into the ground and disappeared. Seconds later, each of them grew to about two metres, forming humanoid-like figures, which turned into pumpkin-headed creatures. They had heads like halloween pumpkin lanterns and green bodies, hands and legs. A mysterious fire lit from inside their hollow heads.

“What the…” Edwin mumbled to himself in astonishment, taken back.

Just then Rubica sensed an extraordinary aura around Edwin. "Oh I see..." She hissed. “I knew it…” Daphne said. Edwin was even more astonished when the three words came out of Daphne’s mouth.

“Demokins, get them!” The walking pumpkin heads gathered and dashed towards Edwin and Daphne at Rubica’s command.

Edwin went into a fighting stance. He was confused because he did not know any form of martial arts. He suspected that his talisman gave him the skill. Rubica vanished in a beam of green essence, leaving the demokins dealing with the duo.

The creatures surrounded them. Edwin and Daphne somersaulted as two demokins each dashed from their right and left sides. The demokins collided into each other hard and vanished in a black essence. Edwin then fought two demokins by delivering his punches into their soft chests. Daphne did her one-of-a-kind power kick at one of the demokins and it crashed into a metal fence and disintegrated. She bent down and tripped one, proceeding to jump on it and stomp it into nothingness.

“You’re doing well, Edwin!” complimented Daphne.
”You’re not too bad either!” replied Edwin.

Somewhere in a demonic palace in another dimension, Rubica sat on her throne. Raising her hand and waving it, a twisted screen formed in front of her.

“No doubt he’s the descendant of one of those fools who banished me centuries ago. How foolish of them to think that they can destroy me when my essence dispersed, but my immortality didn’t let me down. And of course my diabolical creations, the loyal Black Dragon and the Twin sisters, Nightea and Marela.”

“I wonder which one… and it’d better not be the cursed bitch who deprived me of my monster form.” The black humanoid exclaimed with hatred. The creature was originally a black dragon but after being destroyed and reformed, he had lost his monster form - a horrifying black dragon with tremendous power.

“I see that our footmen are as useless as ever!” Nightea insulted. Black Dragon created Nightea and Marela with some of the essence of Rubica at the break of dusk. Although both of them were identical in all aspects except for their human-like faces, Marela always treated Nightea as her older sister and tended to mimic her sister’s words.

“Useless as ever. You got that right, Sis.” added Marela.
“Why bother. Batrider, come forth!” commanded Rubica.

At her command, a monster appeared. A purple troll-like figure sat proudly on his large, ugly bat.
“Go now… and do what you should…” ordered Rubica.
“Yes, my demonic empress.” He then flew off on his bat.

After bringing down the last demokin, Edwin fell on his knees. Daphne took that as a warm-up.

“What in the world is going on…” Shawn said as he and Dan ran over to Edwin and Daphne.
“Are you alright? What were those creatures that attacked the both of you just now?” Dan pat Edwin on the shoulder.
“I’m not quite sure but I’m alright, thanks for your concern…” Edwin forced a smile.
“Oh really? You won’t be now!” Batrider descended from out of nowhere, stopping in mid air.
“Uh guys, I think we better get outta here NOW!” Shawn advised as he pulled Dan and Edwin along with him. Daphne froze.
“Go without the boy!” Batrider commanded as his bat fired a laser from both its eyes onto the ground. Edwin was separated from his two buddies by a distance.
“You two go first, I’ll handle him!” Edwin requested.
“But how!” questioned Dan curiously.
“What, are you out of your mind! Look at those two monsters, they’re massive!” exclaimed Shawn.
“Just go!” shouted Edwin.

Shawn and Dan ran over to the shelter by the side of the canteen, making sure that Edwin was still in sight.

Edwin got into a battle stance. He somersaulted and kicked Batrider from the back, trying to force him down onto the ground. Batrider ordered his large bat to tackle Edwin with its tail. Edwin fell onto the ground.

“Edwin!” Daphne screamed. Daphne somersaulted and attempted to kick Batrider from the back like Edwin but Batrider grabbed her left leg and threw her onto the grass. Daphne tried to get up but the pain inflicted during the slam was unbearable.

“The same thing won’t work twice, especially when it never worked from the start!” laughed Batrider.

“Why you mutated thingy on the ugly bat!” insulted Edwin.
“Haha, that won’t do!” With that, Batrider raised his right claw and waved it in an abnormal way at Edwin.
Suddenly, Edwin felt himself being lifted up from the ground. Before he knew it, he was inside a tornado.
“What the...! We must help him!” Shawn told Dan.
“But how… by the way, don’t worry… Edwin will make it out. Somehow I just know it!” Dan replied in confidence.
“Haha, this is even easier than I imagined…” boasted Batrider.
“Oh really? How about this?” Edwin shouted at Batrider through the tornado.

“Spiritual Waters!” whispered Edwin.
From the pond in the school, streams of water burst out and headed for Batrider.

“What the…” Streams of water hit him before he could say another word. The tornado disappeared and Edwin landed safely on the ground.
“This is in my favour, I won’t let him off this easily! Revenge time!” Black Dragon exclaimed and disappeared.

“See! I told you!” Dan whispered to Shawn. Shawn rolled his eyes.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me, I can’t believe what I just saw…” muttered Shawn.
Edwin casted another of his spells before Batrider could retaliate.
“Okay, that’s new…” Daphne mumbled to herself as she watched Edwin in stunned silence.
“It’s payback time.” smirked Edwin.

Edwin put both his hands together and raised them up into the air. A ball of blue energy gathered at his fingertips. “Water Tornado!” He shouted as he aimed the ball of blue energy at Batrider. The ball of blue energy hit Batrider and he fell into it. A tornado appeared inside the ball and spun rapidly, causing Batrider to let out another scream before vanishing.

Edwin heaved a sigh of relief. Shawn and Dan ran over to help Daphne up.

“What just happened? I just can’t follow for the first time!” asked the astonished Dan.
“Hmmm Edwin, now explain to us…” Shawn ordered Edwin.
“Okay. Just wait. Daphne, are you feeling okay? Do you need help?” asked Edwin, concerned.
“I’m trying to get up, what do you think? Offer some of your HELP please.” replied Daphne sarcastically.

Edwin took out his talisman without a thought and directed it at Daphne’s bruised legs. It let out a white light onto her legs and the bruises seemed to lighten and then disappeared. Daphne was amazed but Shawn and Dan was in shock.
“Okay dude, you’ve shocked us too many times today. Explain, please.” asked Shawn harshly.

“Err… thanks for the ‘healing’.” Daphne said, making inverted commas with her fingers. “Otherwise I’ve got to go now, see you guys tomorrow!” With that, Daphne ran off hastily

Just then, Black Dragon appeared before the trio.
“Take this, descendant of that cursed water Goddess!” Black Dragon made his point and fired a bolt of dark energy at them. “Fire Ball!” A voice commanded. A fireball flew from above them and collided the energy bolt, causing an explosion. As the smoke cleared, Black Dragon and the trio looked up.

A gigantic fireball descended onto the ground. The fire extinguished and a cloaked being stood in its place. His inner clothing was of a fiery red colour and outer clothing consisted of a black mantle. His hairstyle was in a shape of a huge flame, standing upright.

Edwin took a closer look at what he thought was a medallion that was hanging from the neck of the being. It was a talisman carved with the Chinese character of fire on it. Black Dragon immediately recognized who that being was.

“It has indeed been long, Protector of Volcano.” said Black Dragon.

“Protector of Volcano…” Edwin mumbled to himself.

“Oh I’m not the Protector of Volcano. I’m his descendant. Call me… your greatest nightmare.” He replied and exclaimed “Volcaniva!” With that he raised both his hands and released fire into the air. The fire swirled into multiple fireballs and rained on the dark creature.

“I’ll get you next time!” He warned and vanished. The descendant glowed in a white light and appeared in casual clothes.
“Edwin… right? I need you to come with me.” said the boy.
“And you are?” asked Edwin curiously, wondering why he knew his name.
“Call me…”
“Your greatest nightmare!” continued Shawn.
“Haha, very funny. I’m Ian, and it’s nice to meet all of you.” He introduced with a smile.
“Likewise. Shawn here!” “Hi. I’m Dan, and it’s nice to meet you too!”
“Okay, back to the topic, Edwin, this planet is facing a great danger with the appearance of Rubica once again so I need you to come with me.” Ian told Edwin.
“Can we come too, please?” asked Dan.

“Hmmm…” Ian thought for a few seconds and replied, “Okay, sure!” With that he snapped his fingers and a ball of fire swirled around them and they flew off.

Chapter 2: Celestial Powers - Part 2

"Until the third descendent awakens, we have to keep Rubica and her army at bay with all our might," thought Edwin, ruffling through his science textbook as if it was an uninteresting magazine. He was alone on the second floor of his school's library, or so he thought. He closed the book and indulged in his daydream.

All of a sudden, a loud thud shocked him back into reality. "What the..." mumbled Edwin.

"ED! What's up?" asked Xiong excitedly.
"NOTHING," Edwin snarled at him, trying to fake his expression so that his buddy would not notice his anxiousness.
"Okay, sorry for shocking you," he apologised with a hint of sarcasm.

"Hi, Ed!" Jie greeted as she appeared from behind Xiong.
"Hi, guys. What's up?" replied Edwin restlessly.
"Are you okay? We came by to see if you're dealing with your situation,” said Xiong worriedly.
"I'm fine. It’s just that..." answered Edwin, half-heartedly. A shadow lingered behind one of the bookshelves.
"Just that you're still worried about us? And that Rubica might attack us anytime," Jie declared concernedly as though he knew what his best friend's thoughts were.

"Maybe you guys should just steer clear from me. I really don't want anything to happen to my best friends," Edwin announced firmly, but in his heart he knew that he needed them very much.
"Look, dude, you're our best friend! You'll still be and FOREVER will be, no matter what happens, and we'll stick with you through this," exclaimed Xiong, with feelings of sadness and anger.
"Yeah. We won't abandon you even if you want us to. Not after everything we've been through together to become the best of friends. We know you're afraid of dragging us into danger, but we're not afraid of anything. The three of us are best friends and we'll stick through thick and thin together," Jie assured him in a sturdy tone.

"I... I am sorry, guys. I understand what you guys intend to do, but I really don't want to involve the two of you in my magical battle..." said Edwin, smiling apologetically.
"But..." Xiong cut in expectedly.
"Let me finish. We're still the best of friends; we'll still go through every other thing together. But when I'm to face Rubica and her army again, I really don't want you guys near me at all," announced Edwin seriously.
"Okay, we understand, but you'll have to fill us in on everything we've missed. Alright, pal?" Jie asked, winking at his smiling buddy.
"Alright!" replied Edwin, regaining his confidence.

Ian had been at a corner watching and listening to the trio’s serious conversation. He was touched by how firmly they believed in one another and by the undoubtedly strong bond of their friendship. He turned around and leaned slightly against a tall brown shelf, with his left foot seemingly glued onto the wooden floor and his right foot supporting his frame. Resting his head against the wall of the shelf, he thought, "I wonder if any of my friends would do the same for me..."

Just then, Jie noticed a dark shadow cast on the wooden floor behind one of the shelves. He walked stealthily towards it and saw Ian.
"Hey, Ian," greeted Jie. Ian was still deep in thought.
"Hey, Ian? IAN!" Jie continued, now waving a hand in front of Ian’s face. Ian snapped out of his thoughts almost immediately.

"Hi. Xiong, right?" Ian queried.
"No. I'm Edwin, IAN," Jie replied sarcastically, growing slightly annoyed.
"Oh! I'm really sorry, Jie," apologised the latter.
"Are you feeling okay? Or are you in the same state that Edwin had just been in?" asked Jie.
"Nah, I'm not. I'm fine with my current situation. I -" replied Ian.
"How do you know what state Ed was in? Wait... you've been eavesdropping?" asked Jie nervously, recalling all the overly-personal stuff he had said a few minutes ago.
"Well, just for a little while. Come on, it’s not like I heard anything much... just a little," said Ian.

At that moment, Edwin and Xiong walked up to them, eyeing Jie and exchanging curious glances, then turned to Ian.
"Hey, Ian! I was about to look for you," greeted Edwin.
"Hi, Ian!" Xiong followed.
"Hey, guys! And what for?" said Ian.
"The same reason why you're here," Edwin replied firmly.
"Yep. We’ve got to talk," agreed Ian.
"Okay guys. I'm going with Ian now. Both of you please take care! Bye!" said Edwin.
"Ok bye," murmured Xiong sadly.
"Bye, Ed. Take care. See you soon," said Jie solemnly. Both of them seemed down all of a sudden.
"You guys... if I am to be able to concentrate on what I'm about to do, at least let me know you guys are really fine," added Edwin altruistically.

Seeing his two buddies still unimpressed, he raised his voice.
"LET ME BE SELFISH FOR ONCE!" exclaimed Edwin. Ian was stunned. Jie and Xiong finally realized that they would have to trust him completely, and they forced a smile on their faces. "Thanks a lot, guys," he said, giving them a tight hug and light slaps on their backs before leaving with Ian.

Elsewhere, in a familiar dark lair, Rubica sat on her throne with her eyes shut under heavily powdered lids. She tried to concentrate on gathering her energy into one place. Her evil powers manifested, creating a dark purple hole of evil energy. "Yes... I see her..." she hissed. A few minutes later, she conjured some darkish green essence that drifted off into the darkness, smirking devillishly as the lair turned complete darkness.

The essence drifted into one of the gloomy tunnels that Draco was in. "What the -" It shot onto his chest and covered the being. Draco felt a sudden surge of strong energy through the torso of his armored body, spreading upwards to his head and down to his body. He had not felt such great power in centuries. He growled and transformed into a black dragon. His body was heavily scaled, with a tail armored by layers of pined skin and a neck so thick it seemed he had none. Sharp white horns protruded from above his ears and his eyes were tinted green. "I... am... BACK!" yelled the ferocious dragon, baring his sharp yellowish teeth.

Meanwhile, in another high school nearby, Esther was having her afternoon training.

Taking in a deep breath, Esther tightened her grip around the metal bat. She concentrated hard on the ball in the pitcher’s hand. This was the last inning and her team was counting on her to score for them. Both teams were tied at five to five. She had to hit the ball.

Even though this was just a friendly match among the members of the softball team, their coach expected them to give it their one hundred and twenty percent. Come on, Esther thought. The pitcher did a wind-up, and pitched a shocking curve ball!

“What?” she gasped. That was impossible. When had her friend learnt to do that? The ball advanced at an incredible speed. Esther gritted her teeth, then swung her bat just as the ball went past. The bat sliced through thin air.

“Strike three! Batter out!” the umpire called out. Esther cringed at the umpire’s call. She headed back to her team, dragging her feet across the field. She sat down on the bench without a word. “Don’t worry. At least we tied the game,” a teammate comforted. Esther returned a forced smile. “I guess.”

Esther grabbed her crimson and navy bag and slung it over her shoulders. She let out a sigh. The training was finally over. The Monday noon heat was starting to get to her, and she was beginning to feel quite hungry. "Why must my training start straight after my holidays? With lessons to boot in the morning," she mumbled, as she let out a second sigh.

Just then, J.C., one of her teammates, sauntered up to her. “Hey, Esther. Rough day, huh?” Esther nodded, and replied, “Yeah. That curve ball of yours was excellent.” J.C. dismissed the compliment. “Nah. That was a lucky pitch. I can’t believe the coach made both teams run twelve rounds as punishment for tying the game, though. That was way harsh. You ready to leave?”

Esther nodded. They bought a couple of packet drinks from the cranky vending machine and were about to head for the exit of the school when Esther spotted a familiar figure in a deserted spot behind the building. “On second thought, you go on ahead without me,” Esther told J.C., her eyes still glued to the figure.

“Okay. See you on Monday then,” J.C. said unsuspectingly, and gave a small wave before proceeding towards the school gate while slowly sipping her drink. Esther ran towards the figure to take a closer look.

“Dad? What are you doing here?” the curious daughter asked.

"Well..." the hesitating father replied.

Meanwhile at Rubica's palace, Nightea and Marela were chirping away.

"Where's our empress, Draco?" asked Marela, directing the question to the black dragon.

"She said that she had to take care of something," replied the gigantic dragon in a deep hoarse voice, looking down at the twins.

"I wonder what she's up to," said Nightea mischievously.

"What she's up to... a good question..." continued Marela.

"It is probably something of utmost importance," added Draco gruffly as he walked away.

Back at Esther's school...
“I have told you everything I know. Tell no one about it,” Esther’s father whispered, as he slipped his hand into his pocket and took out a yellow-coloured talisman. A Chinese character representing lightning was carved on it. Immediately, thunderclouds covered the sky. Bolts of lightning struck the talisman, and it began hovering in the air. Esther’s jaws dropped.

The talisman floated around the duo as a static field formed around them. It rested on Esther's hand and the static field faded away. “Whoa... I can’t believe that you’re a descendant of the Summoner of Lightning,” she said, wide-eyed with awe. She looked at the glowing talisman in her hand and began fiddling with it. A wave of nervousness washed over her father.

“Be careful! It’s not a toy, you know?” he said in alarm. “Oops. I was just curious,” Esther replied sheepishly. Her father shook his head with a smile and added, “Use it wisely. Let your conscience be your guide. Remember, your heart and mind must be one.” “But how do I use it?” “You will know when the time comes,” her father said.

Out of a sudden, a pale green essence appeared from nowhere and engulfed him, causing him to disintegrate into nothingness. “No!” screamed Esther, as she watched in horror. The essence swirled mysteriously in air and began moving towards her. Esther backed away slowly until she found herself against a wall. She was cornered at a dead end.

As the essence moved closer and closer, it gradually changed into an emerald green colour. “Ah... the successor of the Lightning powers. I can sense the power radiating from within you,” a voice hissed. The essence was almost a few inches away.

Esther’s heart froze in terror. She closed her eyes and focused on her lightning energy. In an instant, she was enclosed in a sphere-like shield, powered by her inner strength and the lightning from the sky. Immediately, the essence stopped swirling and sparks of electricity mixed into it. It continued swirling but in a circular motion, and after a while, it transformed into whom Esther recognized as the evil Rubica, the Empress of the mystical Heavens.

Rubica seemed to be slightly fazed from the electrocution, but otherwise unharmed. She raised her arm and shot a beam at Esther. The lightning sphere dissolved on impact, leaving Esther unprotected from the beam. A massive explosion occurred, causing Esther to slam into the wall behind her, creating a deep impression in it.

Blood trickled down her forehead. Rubica threw her head back and let out a wicked laugh. Esther staggered to her feet and returned a cold glare. “You don’t scare me,” she spat. “Fool!” Rubica cursed, and shot another beam at her. Esther called out, “Lightning strike!” and released several lightning bolts from her hand.

Both energy beams collided, the impact causing another explosion, sending both Rubica and Esther flying backwards. Esther landed on the ground with a loud thud. Rubica crashed onto the ground, her body skidding for a moment before coming to a stop. She slowly got to her feet, and wiping off a trickle of blood from her mouth, she said,

“This is only the beginning. We’ll meet again... soon. And the next time, it will be the end of you, Summoner of Lightning.” In an instant, she dissolved into a green essence and it drifted off, being carried along by a gentle breeze.

As she tried to digest everything that had happened, Esther felt the pain and sorrow of losing her father. Her mother had died from a cancer years ago. She was now left on her own... to pick up the pieces, and to discover the unexpected events about to unfold.

Chapter 3: Celestial Powers - Part 3

Edwin paced up and down his living room upon reaching home. Trying to absorb as much information his mother had told him about Rubica and the mythical heavens, his mind was still thinking about whether he should tell Esther about it. Edwin took out his hand phone, searched for Esther’s house number and called her. Esther curled up on her brown sofa, picturing the image of her father in her head and let out a soft cry. "No, I can't cry. Dad wouldn't want to see me like this," she told herself as she wiped the tears off her face with her bruised hands. She picked up her navy phone, hesitated, and then placed it back. A few seconds later, her phone rang again.

“RRRIIINNNGGG...” Esther picked up the phone immediately.
“Hello... may I speak to Esther please?”
“Yeah, Esther here and you are?”
“Esther! Remember me, Edwin?!”

Esther was shocked. She thought of all the possible reasons why Edwin would have called her, but could not pinpoint one.

“Eh Esther, you there? Why did you hang up just now?”
“Yeah, sorry... I was doing something,” said Esther.
“Esther, if you have the time now... can you meet me at Raffles Place in... let’s say forty five minutes?” said Edwin as he remembered the promise he had made to Esther.
“Most certainly, but why?” said Esther, her voice almost hoarse.
“Just meet me there ok? I will explain it to you later,” replied Edwin.
“Sure, bye!” said Esther.
“Take care, see you later!” said Edwin before putting down his phone.

Back at the demonic palace...
“So the little water descendant knows the lightning lass!” stated Rubica.
“How about I lead a dozen of demokins to take care of those kids?” asked Draco.
“Sure, Draco... but keep this in mind - if you fail me, your creature form will be taken back!” roared Rubica.
“Yes, my queen.” With that, the dragon disintegrated into green essence.

Meanwhile At Raffles Place...
“Ah... an industrial area where most people work and hang out at...” said Draco.
“Oh gosh, I must have woken up at the wrong side of my bed today! What is that?!” exclaimed a student, who ran at the sight of Draco, a gigantic dragon almost five times her height, distraught.

People fled in terror as Draco fired a series of beams from his evil black eyes with each step.
“Run, you pathetic humans! Run!” laughed Draco evilly.

“Spiritual Waters!” shouted Edwin as he focused his index and middle fingers at the fountain and then at the dragon’s back.

The water burst out of the fountain and headed for the black dragon. The water did minor effect on Draco, only causing him to turn his back and whipped his tail at Edwin. Edwin was thrown towards a gray statue. He moaned in pain.

“Haha, you and your pathetic water spells! No way!” laughed Draco as he walked menacingly towards Edwin. Edwin covered his head with both of hands and closed his eyes, bracing himself for an attack.

“Oh no you don’t!” yelled Esther. Lightning emitted from her hand.
“Lightning shield!” A yellowish shield of electricity formed around Edwin.
Edwin slowly opened his eyes and released both his hands. He saw a girl now confronting the malicious creature.

“Lightning strike!” exclaimed Esther. Both her hands lit up in yellow energy and the electricity emitted from her hands as she raised them up into the air. The electricity struck Draco and he was forced to take a few steps backwards. But the battle did not just end there. Edwin saw the intense fight between Esther and Draco and felt guilty for being unable to help her out due to his injuries.

Suddenly, a ring of fire descended from out of nowhere and trapped Draco. A guy in red t-shirt and black pants appeared and dragged Edwin and Esther with him. He wore a red wristband on his left wrist which had a talisman on it, engraved with a Chinese character representing fire.

“Ian!” exclaimed Edwin.
“Ian? Who is he?” asked Esther.
“I’ll explain everything to you later! Hurry up and follow me!” Ian replied hurriedly.

Ian grabbed Edwin and Esther by their arms and a ball of fire swirled around them and flew off.

They landed in the backyard of a bungalow.

“Come, go through here.” said Ian. An almost transparent portal formed on the porch and they stepped into it. They reappeared in a large room, similiar to that of a government's secret headquarters. A large black screen hung on the wall. In the middle of the room was a circular metallic podium, with tiny black buttons on a tall white stand rooted to the ground.

"Wow... this place is amazing!" commented Esther.
"This is our magical headquarters." said Ian proudly.
"What's your name?" Edwin asked Esther.
"She's Esther." A familiar voice drifted into their presence.
"Esther..." Edwin thought as he recognized Esther's voice, the same voice his online friend sounded like on the phone a few hours ago.

Lillian and Ted, Esther's dad, stepped forward.

"DAD!!!" Esther ran over her dad and gave him the tightest hug ever. "I thought... I thought you were gone forever..." she said, fighting back her tears.

"Ouch..." Her father gasped. Apparently, he had sustained injuries from Rubica's attack. "Are you alright, Dad?"
"I'm fine, my dear," said Ted, scanning the amount of bruises on her daughter. "You're hurt too."
"I'm fine. Really," she said, resting her head against her father's chest.

“Mom, why are you here?” asked Edwin. His mother remained silent.
"Rubica sent me to another dimension but Edison used his powers to help me break free and teleported me here." interrupted Ted.
“Hm wait... is it just me or did I hear you say powers?!” asked Esther.
“Yeah, same here... this talisman thingy is getting me nowhere!” added Edwin.

“Let me explain. I’m Mr. Edison. This is Ian, the fire descendant, and also my son.” Edison explained, pointing at Ian. "Lillian, Ted and I have been guarding the talismans passed down from our magical hierarchy until the prophesized ones possessed them... That will be the three of you."

“You have all been summoned here for the same reason. Rubica, an ancient evil, has been released by an unknown power... and now she is determined to take over our world. Starting with our little island, she will begin her domination.”

“So the reason we were summoned here is...” started Esther.
“To stop her from taking over?” added Edwin.
“Yes... you are correct!” Edison replied.
“POWER RANGERS!!!” thought Edwin and Esther, who were beginning to grow excited.

“We need to sit down,” said Edwin and Esther at the same time. All the things that had happened in quick succession overwhelmed them. At the moment, they were trying to grab the nearest chair in sight.

“No, you can't sit down. The current situation requires immediate attention. But before that, please pass me your talismans,” requested Edison urgently.

“Sure,” said Edwin and Esther, straightening their spines.

Edison took their talismans and went over to the table near his laptop. A few minutes later, he returned with two wristbands.

“Here you go!” said Edison.
Edwin took the blue wristband that contained his talisman and Esther took the other one. The talismans on Esther and Edwin's morphers started glowing in white light, followed by their bodies, and their bruises, leaving them feeling energized. They did not seem shocked after all the strange things that had happened since the start of their day.

“These are your wristband morphers. See your talismans in the middle? Those are what power up your morphers,” explained Edison.
“And what do we do with these?” Edwin asked sarcastically, although knowing what the answer was.

“You use these to become power rangers!”
“Power rangers!!!” yelled Edwin and Esther excitedly.

Just then, the large black screen lit up and beeped.
“Looks like Draco broke through Ian's trap! You guys got to hurry!” ordered Edison.
“So what is the command?” asked Esther.
“It is ‘Fire Talisman, Celestial Power’ for me,” answered Ian.
“Ah, I know what mine is then!” said Edwin.
“Same here!” said Esther.

“Go through the vortex. It will take you guys back to the real world to face Rubica’s minions!” Ian instructed.

Edwin and Esther exchanged hugs with their parents before leaving. Lillian spoke for the first time since her son appeared in the room.
“As much as I know how dangerous it is, I know you will do us proud,” said Lillian, bursting into tears.
“Esther, my girl, you have grown up... please return safely!” praised Ted.

“We will!”

They stepped through the portal and reappeared near where Draco and a dozen of demokins were terrorizing.

“Stop right there, you ugly dragon!” insulted Edwin.
“Oh... so you haven’t had enough?” joked Draco.
Draco and the demokins gathered.

“This time you won’t be so lucky!” announced Esther.
“Ready, guys?” asked Ian.
“Oh yeah!” said Edwin and Esther. They formed a line with Ian in middle, Edwin on his right and Esther on his left.

“Fire Talisman, Celestial Power!” pronounced Ian. Ian placed his right hand on his talisman then joined both his hands together before outstretching them. The faces of his hands glowed bright red and fire appeared. The fire spreaded to his face then down to his feet. A red spandex suit pieced itself together, with a fire symbol in the middle, white armored gloves and boots and the morpher on his left wrist. His helmet was red and had a fire-shaped visor.

“Lightning Talisman, Celestial Power!” exclaimed Esther. Esther placed her right hand on her talisman then joined her hands together before outstretching them. The faces of her hands glowed bright yellow and lightning appeared. The lightning streaked across her face and then down to her feet. A yellow spandex suit pieced itself together, with a lightning symbol in the middle, white armored gloves and boots and the morpher on her left wrist. Her helmet was yellow and had a lightning-shaped visor.

“Water Talisman, Celestial Power!” shouted Edwin. Edwin placed his right hand on his talisman then joined both his hands together before outstretching them. The faces of his hands glowed bright blue and water appeared. Streams of water swirled around his face then down to his feet. A blue spandex suit pieced itself together, with a water symbol in the middle, white armored gloves and boots and the morpher on his left wrist. His helmet was blue and had a visor taking the shape of a water droplet.

They went into their own stances and shouted, “Celestial Rangers, subdue all demons!”

"Costumed freaks..." mumbled Draco. “Attack!!!” Draco commanded the demokins.
“Let’s go, guys!” said Ian.

The demokins divided themselves into groups of four. The demokins seemed powered up and the rangers were forced to one side.

“Rangers, your morphed forms hugely empower your spells to be much more powerful!” came Edison’s voice through Ian’s wristband morpher.

“Okay, guys... let’s do it!”

“Fire spin!” Ian opened his fist and fire blazed. The flames headed towards the demokins and four demokins got sucked into it. They vanished into black essence.

“All right, WHOO HOO!!!”

“Lightning strike!” Esther released big waves of lightning bolts from her hands and it streaked past four demokins. They vanished into black essence.

“This is even more powerful than last time!”

“Spiritual waters!” Edwin pointed his index and middle fingers at a nearby fountain. Water gushed out in huge streams and blasted at the remaining four demokins. They dissipated into black essence.

“Pretty impressive... now it is my turn!” said Draco.
“Not a chance!” exclaimed Edwin.

“Darkness rainfall!” pronounced Draco as a black dragon-headed staff materialized in his right claws. He pointed it to the skies, turning it dark with heavy rain clouds. Rain started pouring.

“Ah... I feel tired...” said Edwin drowsily.
“The rain... it’s draining our energy!” said Ian angrily.
“Lightning shield!” yelled Esther weakly. A yellow energy barrier formed around the rangers. “This should protect us for a while.”
“Not for long!” laughed Draco as he used his staff to fire at the shield. The shield was about to shatter at any moment.

“Rangers! Can you read me?!” came Edison’s voice through Esther’s wristband morpher.

“We read you!”
“Summon your staffs with your wristband morphers!”
“Oh right. Thanks, Mr. Edison!!!”

“Flame Staff!!!”
“Thunder Staff!!!”
“Water Staff!!!” commanded Ian, Esther and Edwin respectively.

A red phoenix tail staff materialized in Ian's gloved hands. The tail glowed bright red at its tip. A yellow griffin-headed staff materialized in Esther’s gloved hands. The eyes of the griffin glowed bright yellow. A blue unicorn horn staff materialized in Edwin’s gloved hands. The horn glowed bright blue.

Just then, Draco broke through the shield.

“Looks like you guys have nothing for protection!” laughed Draco.
“We need no protection, you menacing goon!” insulted Edwin.

They aimed their staffs at Draco. Fire engulfed Ian’s staff and bursts of flames shot at Draco. The eyes of Esther’s griffin-headed staff emitted electricity at Draco. Finally, water beamed out of the tip of Edwin’s horn staff and surged towards Draco.

Fire, electricity and water hit Draco at the same time, causing him to sustain great damage.

“How could this be...? Being beaten by kids?! I’ll be back!” cursed Draco and he vanished into green essence.
“Good job, guys!” Ian praised Edwin and Esther.
“You too, Ian!” replied Edwin and Esther.
“Good job, rangers! I knew you guys wouldn’t disappoint us!” came Edison’s voice through their wristband morphers.

“See... I told you two!” Edison said, turning to Lillian and Ted.

They just smiled at one another.

In the demonic palace, Rubica’s anger raged.
“Nonsense! Cease your lame excuses!” Rubica growled at Black Dragon.
“I’m sorry, my evil empress... really sorry...” he apologized profusely.

“Draco, I’ve warned you that if you fail me... I’ll take back your creature form from you!” Rubica chanted a spell and a small grisly-looking bottle materialized in her left hand. Green essence flowed out of Draco as he roared in pain. The essence drifted into the bottle and Rubica sealed it with a cork. It disintegrated into nothingness.

A handsome demonic being in humanoid-form, different from before, appeared in place of the gigantic dragon.
“You know what you must do to get your creature form back!” exclaimed Rubica, outraged.
“Yes, my evilness!” replied Draco, feeling pissed.

“The descendants will pay dearly for what they did!” Draco swore with hatred to himself as he stomped away.

Back at their headquarters, the trio and their parents were celebrating their first victory.
"The battle was well-fought and has ended, but the war has just begun," said Ian happily.
"Esther, are you sportsgirl... sixteen?" asked Edwin shyly.
"I am! Don't tell me you're catboy!" replied Esther excitedly.
"Yes I am. Oh god, this is such a coincidence!" said Edwin.

"It is no coincidence, my boy," said Lillian as she winked at the trio. The trio fell asleep in an instant, with their heads supported by their arms.
"They ought to rest well," said Ted.
"I hope they can handle the obstacles that'll be coming their way... soon," said Edison.

Chapter 4: Spirited Chaos

Esther stopped in front of a tombstone in a church graveyard and kneeled down to place a bouquet of daffodils on the ground. She closed her eyes and prayed silently. A while later, a man in black robes walked towards her and stopped beside her. His body bent slightly with both hands behind his back.

"Your mother must be very proud," consoled the man. Esther opened her eyes slowly and saw the church priest.
"Father Dale, how do you do?" greeted Esther, forcing a smile.
"I'm fine. How're you doing, my child?" asked Father Dale concernedly.
"I'm fine too, I guess. Sometimes, I wished that my mother were still around to see what I am doing. I really miss her,” replied Esther sadly, fighting back her tears.
"My child, you're a good girl and I'm sure she'd be proud of you. You're a sensible teenager and you know it," said Father Dale, as he patted her softly on her shoulder to express his concern, before turning to walk off.

Esther looked down at the flowers and droplets of tear escaped from her eyes. As she was reminded of how much her mother adored those beautiful flowers when she was still alive, she closed her eyes and continued praying.

Ted was typing rapidly on the keyboard of the mainframe as Lillian walked towards him.

"Hey, you need to rest! You've been working twelve hours straight!" Lillian reminded, concerned yet uptight.
"Judging from past events, these will come in handy for the rangers! I must finish it as soon as possible," replied Ted, as he typed even more furiously on the keys.
"You said that six hours ago when Norman asked you the same thing!" scolded Lillian.
"A little more... a little more... GOT IT!" exclaimed Ted excitedly as he hit a big red button on the motherboard. Lillian watched curiously as the screen on the wall lit up as three shadow figures were projected onto it. A few seconds later, the screen reverted to its former state with white coded texts accelerating up the black screen.
"DARN IT!" yelled Ted, as he let out a sigh.
"Relax! What's the problem?" asked Lillian.
"Power shortage. Even all the power put together from our system is not enough to power them up. What should I do?" replied Ted sadly.
"Power shortage, huh? I remember my mother used to tell me unbelievable stories that were passed down our magical hierarchy. Three legendary creatures who possessed amazing powers used to be pets to our ancestors..." explained Lillian but was interrupted by Ted.
"THAT'S IT! I can't believe I didn't even think of that! I created the zords based on the legendary creatures my grandfather used to tell me about. We can use the creatures to help power the machines in times of great need!" said Ted excitedly.
"Good idea! Did you not remember that the Cave Of Spirits was sealed ages ago?" said Lillian sarcastically.
"Oops," muttered Ted as he slapped his head.
"Anyway, I heard from Edwin that Esther's visiting her mother's tomb," mentioned Lillian. Ted's hands separated from the keyboard for the first time in twelve hours.
"Ye-ee-aah..." drawled Ted.
"Poor girl. She must have went to confide in her mother again," said Lillian sympathetically.

Just then, the map of their island materialized on the screen, with a glowing red dot pinpointing a location. Ted pressed a few keys to enlarge the seemingly important area.

"Oh no. This is not good. Our satellite detected a weakening in the sealed opening of the Cave Of Spirits," explained Ted.
"Haven't the Cave Of Spirits been a target of many evil since the ancient times?" reminded Lillian.
"So, if it is weakening, Rubica will detect it and- I'm informing the rangers!" replied Ted urgently.

Meanwhile, at the sanctuary not far from the church graveyard, Draco was monitoring a bunch of demokins that were ransacking the place. 'Check the altar!' commanded Draco. Nightea and Marela were fiddling with Draco's long black hair.

"You'll never find it!" said Father Dale restlessly, sprawled on the floor.
"We'll see about that! Nightea! Marela! Go check the church!" commanded Draco. The two demonic beings nodded and ran off in fright.
"Oh no. Gareth is still in there praying!" thought the priest before fainting.

Just then, a nun fought her way into the sanctuary and headed for Draco. Her moves were swift but Draco was skillful enough to dodge all her attacks. He swung his hand backwards and drove it into the nun's chest, knocking her against the wall. Draco grabbed her neck with his right hand and pushed it against the wall.

"You demons will not get what you want!" snarled the nun.
"You're so wrong! I admire your courage, but I guess it is time for you to die!" laughed Draco.

Just then, a bolt of lightning streaked past the entrance towards Draco's hand and he was forced to let go of the helpless nun. Esther ran in and went into a fighting stance.

"Pick on someone your own size!" said Esther.
Hey, Miss. Thunderbolt! Joining in the fun?! Demokins, GET HER!" shouted Draco, before vanishing into a green essence.

The busy demokins abandoned their work and stormed towards Esther. She kicked two of them against the wall as she somersaulted sideways on a short black table. The demokins shot their vines across the table but Esther jumped off it just in time. The demokins growled in anger. "Oh, you want a piece of me!?" Esther directed her hands at the demokins. "Lightning Strike!" Bolts of lightning surged out from her palms and towards three demokins and they vanished in black essence. The remaining demokins disappeared in green essence. After scanning the area and making sure that there were no more demokins, Esther ran over to the injured nun.

"Are you okay?" asked Esther concernedly.
"I... am. You'd better... go," replied the nun softly.
"No. I can help," Esther reached for her talisman and directed it at the hurt nun. A ray of light shone onto her and healed her slightly. Esther was shocked.
"What's going on...?" mumbled Esther. Esther helped the nun up slowly.
"I'm sorry, that was the best I could do," said Esther dejectedly.
"It was sufficient, my dear," comforted the nun. "May I ask who you are?"
"Hmmm... I am... well..." answered the tongue-tied heroine.
"Its okay. Thanks for saving our grounds from destruction," said the nun gratefully.
"I wouldn't count on that. Draco has been sighted at the church graveyard with two demonic beings and a teenage boy! Ian and Edwin are fighting the demokins," came Ted's voice from Esther's morpher.
"Oh no, that boy must be Gareth! We’ve got to hurry!" said the nun nervously.
"Who's Gareth...?" asked Esther as she was being pulled towards the direction of the graveyard by the nun.

Meanwhile at the church graveyard, Edwin and Ian were fighting off the demokins.

"Where are they coming from?" asked Edwin curiously.
"I don't know but what I know is that I can't hold them off much longer!" replied Ian hastily. A fading dark aura flooded the graveyard's grounds as more demokins rose from the damp soil.
"Let go of me, you freak!" said Gareth insultingly.
"Not until you watch me open up the Cave Of Spirits, kid!" replied Draco mockingly.
"I'll never let you open it! Never!" exclaimed the enraged boy. "Give me back my gem!"
"Cave Of Spirits? What's that?" asked Edwin.
"It is a containment unit for banished spirits in the ancient times. We cannot allow Draco to open it!" replied Ian nervously.
"Okay, let's morph!" suggested Edwin excitedly. Just then, Esther and the nun arrived at the scene.
"Don't forget about me!" said Esther.
"Ready!" announced Ian firmly. Edwin and Esther rushed to both his sides.
"Fire Talisman, Celestial Power!" "Lightning Talisman, Celestial Power!" "Water Talisman, Celestial Power!" pronounced Ian, Esther and Edwin respectively. The nun revealed a shocked expression.
Seconds later, colored spandex suits melded onto the rangers' bodies.

"Celestial Rangers! Subdue all demons!" declared the rangers unanimously. The rangers summoned their staffs and started fighting the demokins.

Meanwhile, at a remote part of the graveyard, Draco dragged Gareth and stopped in front of a small shrine. Nightea and Marela followed behind them closely. Gareth struggled arduously in Draco's grip.

"Save your energy!" roared Draco.

Draco threw dozens of pumpkins seeds onto the black soil. They glowed in green as they positioned themselves into a big circle, surrounding the shrine. He stretched out his hands and released a flow of dark energy into the glowing seeds. The earth shook violently as the seeds grew roots that joined together, creating a vortex within it. The shrine sunk hopelessly into it and a grey circular platform rose from the whirling vortex. A big ancient stone holding a rusty sword in the middle, with strange carvings all over it, materialized on the platform. Gareth struggled desperately.

"You'll witness the opening, Guardian Of The Cave!" laughed Draco as he showed Gareth a transparent octagonal-shaped gem that he had stolen earlier from the latter. He stepped onto the platform, dragging Gareth, and placed the gem into the hole on the hilt of the rusty sword. The rust on the sword fell off and it flew out of its resting place into the sky, with a trail of white light in its wake. The skies turned dark as the sword pierced through the sky above them, triggering an enormous gust from the hole it created. "This world will be ours!" announced Draco proudly. Gareth was thrown off the platform.

Just then, the demokins the rangers were fighting suddenly disappeared. They were curious but they rushed towards the epicenter of the gust. Countless number of banished spirits flew out of the hole as they produced dreadful moans. Draco was about to vaporize Gareth when the rangers shot a series of elemental beams which hit the platform, throwing him off it.

"Return!" a familiar voice echoed.
"I'll be back, rangers!" said Draco as he, Nightea and Marela vanished in black essence.

"Rangers, do you read me?" came Ted's voice through their morphers.
"Yes, Dad?" replied Esther. Edwin and Ian listened closely.

"This is not good. The dreadful sound the spirits are creating is driving everyone mad! You've got to stop it!" said Ted worriedly.

"But how?!" asked Esther nervously.
"The boy, the Guardian Of The Cave - he knows how to stop it!" added Ted.
"Roger that!" said Esther.

They hurried towards Gareth and helped him up. "The gem! Grab the gem! I'm too weak to do anything now... You guys have to do your best to stop this!" muttered Gareth restlessly. Ian somersaulted onto the platform and snatched the gem from its resting place, but there was no apparent change.

"It’s not working! The cave is not closing!" said Ian nervously. He gathered with the other rangers near the platform.
"What should we do?" asked Esther.
"How're we going to stop that?" said Edwin as he pointed towards the direction of the wandering spirits. Just then, a blinding white light appeared out of nowhere. A faint image of a man in ancient clothing materialized in front of them. "Huh?" drawled Esther curiously. The rangers looked at the man curiously as he scanned them one by one. "You three... the prophesized ones," said the man in an indistinctly low voice. The rangers remained silent. "To stop this disaster, you'll need the power of the three legendary creatures." With that, he vanished.

"Who was that?" started Edwin.
"I've no idea," replied Esther stiffly.
"Look!" said Ian as he pointed at the active spirits. Three large spheres of white lights stood out from the flying spirits and then materialized into three gigantic creatures. They roared in unison as the spirits gathered behind them.

"RANGERS! They're the three creatures that were once pets to your ancestors!" came Ted's voice through their morphers.

"Phoenix..."
"Griffin..."
"Unicorn..." said Ian, Esther and Edwin respectively. All of a sudden, the talismans on the rangers' morphers glowed in their respective colors. The rangers raised their left arms, with their morphers directed at the creatures. The light shot at the creatures, engulfing them in their elements. The agile red phoenix screeched fiercely as it merged with the raging fire and it flew towards Ian and melted into his morpher. The swift blue unicorn growled loudly as the white horn on its forehead imbibed the water as it galloped towards Edwin and dissolved into his morpher. The brisk griffin roared vigorously as it fused with the electricity and it flew towards Esther and disintegrated into her morpher.

"Wow! We did it!" said Ian happily. Just then, Draco and Rubica appeared at the scene. Draco fired a series of beams from his right hand at the rangers. They were thrown back quite a distance. "Thanks for taking care of the creatures for us, rangers! Now to commence with our plan!" laughed Draco. A twisted metallic staff, with a large diamond crystal fitted to its top, materialized in Rubica's hands. She pointed it at the spirits and the crystal turned dark purple, as the floating spirits flooded into the crystal.

"What the..." muttered Ted as he typed hurriedly through the keyboard. "Oh no. Rangers, Rubica is trying to channel all the spirits into her staff for a major power boost!" came Ted's voice through the rangers' morphers.

"Oh no you don't!" said Ian as he tried to attack Rubica. Draco brushed him out of the way and slashed his chest with his sword. "Ian!" shouted Esther. She released a couple of lightning bolts from her staff but the bolts hit Draco with minor effect. Edwin somersaulted towards him and kicked him in the chest and he slid backwards. They ran towards Ian and helped him up.

"Are you okay?" asked Edwin.
"I'm fine, but we've got to stop her!" replied Ian. "Simultaneous attack!"

"Almost..." mumbled Rubica.

Fire engulfed Ian’s staff and bursts of flames shot at Draco. The eyes of Esther’s griffin-headed staff emitted electricity at Draco. Water beamed out of the tip of Edwin’s horn staff and surged towards Draco. He crashed into Rubica, causing her to lose control of her staff and the channeling stopped and disrupted the remaining spirits. They flew aimlessly and dispersed in different directions.

"Curses!" hissed Rubica. "But it should be enough."

"Enough for what?" asked Esther. Rubica smirked. She threw a couple of seeds onto the ground and directed her staff at it. The crystal turned purple again and it released spirits into the seed. As they entered the seeds, enormous roots emerged, disappearing into the ground. A second later, vines sprouted and shot up to about twenty stories high. The seeds took root and disappeared. Immediately, the vines disappeared, revealing gigantic versions of the demokins. Rubica and Draco then vanished in green and black essence respectively.

"Uncle Ted, we need help!" requested Ian.

"They're on the way!" replied Ted. Ted pressed a few keys and hit the red button on the motherboard. "Hope this works!" Three grey robots projected onto the screen. "Launching in 3... 2... 1!" The three robots flew from their resting place in the rangers' headquarters and exited through a vortex appearing out of nowhere in the sky.

"Wow!" exclaimed Edwin as they looked at the incoming zords. The unicorn zord galloped on the ground as the phoenix and the griffin zord hovered above it.

"Rangers, you'll need to empower the zords with the legendary creatures!" said Ted through the morpher.

"Let's go, guys!" announced Ian. They ran towards the zords and jumped onto the metallic heads of their individual zords, entering through a hatch that opened at the top, and slid into their cockpits.

"Wow! This is amazing!" Esther said excitedly as she landed on her seat, scanning the small yet cozy space. A lever was rooted at each side of her black seat, with a series of control panels before her with a screen in the middle. She could see the demokins preparing themselves through a coated glass panel behind the controls. The screen lit up and the other two rangers appeared on it.

"This baby rocks!" said Ian energetically.
"It’s a dream come true!" said Edwin thankfully.
"This is unbelievable! I can't believe I'm actually piloting a large zord like this!" said Esther, awestruck.

"Okay guys, let's do it!" commanded Ian. They took their talismans and slotted it into a circular dent that was located on the panel. "Phoenix zord, power up!" "Griffin zord, power up!" "Unicorn zord, power up!" Their seemingly dull zords suddenly glowed their respective colors as the creatures shot out of their talismans and merged with the zords.

"Whoa! Your zords' energy levels are soaring high!" said Ted excitedly through their screens.

The phoenix flew around the demokins, disorientating them and at the same time, seemingly mocking the demonic airheads. The demonoids stood unsteadily as the unicorn fired a huge torrent from its metallic horn at the unsuspecting demokins, causing them to trip, knocking into one another. The griffin ended the tease by creating an enormous gale of electricity from its robotic wings that electrocuted the demokins. "This is fun!" stated Edwin. "So fun!" added Esther. "A little too fun," continued Ian. Rubica sulked as she watched her useless footmen. She then unleashed another wave of spirits to help her fallen footmen. The demokins were energized, unleashing a number of successive seed bombs at the zords. Ian and Esther's zords hovered unsteadily in mid-air while Edwin tried to balance his zord.

"Time to get serious!" stated Edwin sternly.
"Megazord time!" said Esther excitedly.
"Initiating combination!" commanded Ian.

The phoenix and the griffin's wings detached from the zords, forming a cuirass, with the griffin's wings transforming into armor at the front and the phoenix's as the back. The unicorn's legs withdrew into its hide as its head moved to the top of the body, turning into the torso of the megazord. The remnants of the phoenix and griffin zords split into two and constituted the arms and the legs respectively. The cuirass fell into position as the unicorn's head revealed a humanly robotic face. The rangers were teleported into a much larger cockpit, with much more controls than their individual zords. A combined image of their three elements was proudly displayed on the wall behind them.

"Celestial Megazord!" announced the rangers in unison, as the horn of the megazord shone from the bottom to its top. "Here is a little something from me!" said Ted through their screens. A silvery trident materialized in the hands of the megazord. "Wow, this is really something!" commented Ian. "Thanks, Dad!" said Esther. "Let's finish this!" stated Edwin. The megazord swung its trident at the incoming attackers. They fell in different directions, creating loud thuds. The demokins gathered together and attempted to launch more seed bombs at the zord but the rangers countered the attack by spinning the trident, reflecting the bombs back at the demokins. "Time to turn them into fertilizers!" exclaimed Ian. "Elemental Blast!" announced the rangers unanimously. The three prongs of the trident lit red, blue and yellow and released powerful beams at the demokins, destroying them in an instant. "Yeah! We did it!" said Edwin as he jumped off his seat. They gave exchanged hi-fives and rose the trident victoriously.

Back at the headquarters, they were rejoicing over their win.

"Dad, what happened to the remaining spirits?" asked Esther curiously.
"For some reason, they've been sent into hibernation but they'll awake soon," replied Ted worriedly.
"So, what happened when they do?" asked Ian.
"You kids will have to capture them," said Lillian.
"Capture them?! How are we going to do that, mom?" exclaimed Edwin.
"Well, that means training for you three!" said Lillian with a smile. The three of them moaned in unison.

At the church, the rangers and the staff of the church were sweeping and cleaning the place.

"Thanks so much for helping clean up. This place is in such a mess!" said Father Dale gratefully.
"And thank you for saving me and Sister Phil," added Gareth.
"That's not a problem, but you'll have to take care of yourself. I've a feeling that they'll be back," stated Esther, as she swept a bundle of leaves off a bench.
"You've done your best, Gareth. It is our turn now to return the Cave of Spirits back to its original state," said Edwin, wiping the sweat off his forehead with a hand.
"Good luck, guys!" encouraged Gareth.
"But your job as the guardian is not done yet," said Ian as he eyed the gem hanging from Gareth's neck. Gareth held it tightly and said, "I know. I'll do my best when the time comes!"
"Oh yeah, Father Dale and I are going to visit Sister Phil at the hospital. Wanna come along?" asked Gareth.
"Sure!" said the rangers, and the group went off to the hospital.

Meanwhile, at an isolated location in the island's forest, Norman was shovelling sand below an old tree. The deeper he dug, the more puzzled he got. "I'm sure I kept it here," he muttered to himself. Just then, his shovel hit something hard. He bent down and brushed the sand aside, and reached for the item inside. It was a circular brown object with gold designs on it. "Found it. The Lightning Dice!"

At Rubica's lair, Rubica felt a wave of restlessness overwhelming her, so she leaned back against her throne lazily. "I guess I can't really control the spirits yet, but just you wait, rangers...!" Rubica sneered.

It's pretty good, though I'm not a big fan of the three-person sentai team. Are you going to add two more Rangers, maybe? Check out my fanfic: Power Ranger Spirit Beasts.

Edit: I meant to say Power Rangers Spirit Force. I've actually changed it to Power Rangers Spirit Beasts. I really can't think of a good name for it. I have a title for a Japanese version that I can write: Reijuu Sentai Kamiranger (Sacred Beast Task Force KamiRanger). In it, the morphers would be called KamiBraces and the mecha would be called KamiBeasts.
