Hey guys this is my first attempt, somthing from my own mind. MMPR ended with the rangers defeating Zed and Rita. Zeo never happened. Let me know what you think.
Episode 1: An Old Power Reborn
A young man in his early twenties stands in front of a console filled with flashing lights and switches. Sweat and a generous amount of dirt covers his sun-tanned skin and short brown hair. Squinting to see in the small amount of light provided by a hole in the ceiling, he finds exactly what he was searching for as the console hisses and a drawer slides out. He picks up a metal box from the drawer and opens it revealing five coins shining in the dim light. “I can’t believe they’re still here, after everything that’s happened….” He says to himself. He quickly closed the box and slipped it into a bag and started his climb up the rubble to the hole in the roof of the chamber.
I didn’t know how the Power Chamber was destroyed or what became of the occupants. My name is Rick and by standards I’m just a normal guy with a normal life, well at least it used to be. I had heard rumors of the Power Rangers years ago and just only a few months ago, I found out exactly how real the stories all were.
**Several years have passed since the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers protected the earth from the evils of Zed and Rita and as mysteriously as it all began, things ended and the multi-colored force was never seen again. It was released in the news that a base was discovered out in the middle of the desert of California, nothing more than a pile of rubble with a large underground chamber. Scientists and researchers alike were preparing a large excavation of the area to find out what exactly it once was. Rick found out about the discovery while visiting his uncle at UCLA. His uncle, a professor of American history, was contacted by a government group interested in the history of that specific area. They asked a lot of specific questions and were very tight lipped until he signed a confidentiality agreement. His uncle was the first civilian to be taken to the site and was just amazed and puzzled at everything he saw. He told Rick all about it in confidence and was visibly excited, rambling about the possibilities of advanced alien technology and other insane predictions. Rick knew that he had to see if this could possibly be the remains of the Ranger base.**
Climbing out and crouching at the edge of the entrance hole, I started to roll my climbing rope up. My mind flashed back to several months ago, a strange encounter with a man that stopped in looking for me at the EMS station I volunteer with. This man said that he was friends with my parents years ago and that he had heard of they’re untimely death. He spoke of a time when my parents had given more of themselves than ever expected and how they aided those involved in events that were bigger than themselves. He knew from my expression and responses that I didn’t believe him and was very uncomfortable. My parents led normal lives to my knowledge and I would have known if anything major happened as he claimed. Instead of clarifying himself and telling me more he just smiled and handed me a wooden box. He told me that my father had guarded this and the secret with it, took it to his grave just as he swore that he would. The man told me that it now belonged to me if I chose to accept the responsibility; he didn’t expect me to believe what he told me. He told me that when it was time to act, I would know what to do. He said that a hidden base of power will be eventually found. Power would be in jeopardy of falling into hands that couldn’t be trusted. This responsibility was chosen for me just after my birth. The man had then turned his back to me and started to leave, I heard him say with a voice just barely above a whisper, “Those before you didn’t ask for greatness, it came to them. They went on faith at first, and fully believed in their cause with all of themselves. If you need confirmation in my story, visit the man that raised you in his image, look at where he lies with your mother. It is there that you will see what you need to see.”
After that, the man walked out the door and into the night. Leaving me shocked and confused, I finished my shift and went home. I didn’t open the box that night; I carried it with me to my parent’s grave in a little cemetery outside their old neighborhood. I didn’t know what the man meant by any of what he said, especially how he referred to my father. “The man who raised you in his image, look at where he lies with your mother.” I had not been back to the grave since the funeral and never really paid much attention to it then. I was too devastated and was concerned with comforting my two younger brothers who had just started college. I looked at the grave stone that day that my uncle had bought according to the specifications in the will. He thought it very unusual at the time, but I didn’t think much about it. There was a design on the center that I didn’t recognize. It looked like a footprint of some kind of animal, maybe a message from my parents, who lived, breathed, and sometimes slept around studying animals and teaching at the local university. As I said, nothing unusual could be expected from nerdy professors who spend most of their free time in a zoo. I sat down under a tree at the grave and began to open the box.
It was a dark wooden box with velvet lining inside. All that was inside was a gold coin and some kind of metal holder for it, the words were faded to the point I couldn’t read them. It appeared really battered and worn. The coin was in perfect condition and had the same animal print on it that was on the grave stone. I was speechless and had absolutely no idea what it was or what I should do with it. I picked up the coin and I felt a surge of energy flow through my body. The coin started to glow green around the edges and black in the center and then almost immediately everything stopped. It looked just as it had before I picked it up and other than all my hair sticking up on end I felt almost the same. Rather disturbed at all of it I quickly placed the coin into its metal holder and it started to glow again. In a sudden panic I dropped it back into the box and slammed the lid. Quickly got up and looked at the grave. “What the hell did you get me into and why didn’t you tell me!” I yelled at the stone. I ran back to my jeep and started to drive off. I thought I saw someone out of the corner of my eye at the edge of the woods watching me leave, but when I looked that way I didn’t see anyone. For the next month I didn’t open the box and didn’t speak about what happened. I almost forgot it all really did happen until my uncle invited me out for a week to California. I saw the box in my drawer when I was packing, for some reason I tossed it into my bag. I didn’t want it with me, but I didn’t want my girlfriend to find it. So that leads me to right now, standing on the lip of the cavern below pulling up my climbing rope and wrapping it up.
My uncle had explained to me how they had the area guarded with cops patrolling the only road and a few on post around the site itself. Since nobody had shown any interest in it yet, they weren’t really on their top game. Slipping by wasn’t hard I took my uncle’s truck and parked it at a gas station that was closed about a mile away from the road blocked. I then hiked two miles through the desert in darkness, fortunate that the moon was in its stage that resembled a thin thumbnail and not giving off a lot of light. I had borrowed my uncles hand held GPS tool, which he almost never uses, and found the location. Two guards were positioned at the bottom of the hill in a little tent; it appeared that they were occupied listening to a radio and having a loud and vulgar conversation. I slipped in and it was as if I was on auto pilot. I found a console and it scanned my hand for identification. It lit up and I hit several buttons and found apparently what I was looking for. I quickly slipped back out and re-assessed my cover. Nothing had changed; the guards were still laughing and cussing. A few lights by the roadblock a mile off were new since I had entered, but they are stationary though. I palmed the box and opened up using a small LED flashlight to look inside. The five coins shimmered and I saw the same metal holders with them and a metal ball with a button on it. I pulled it out and packed the wooden box with the coins in my pack.
I used the GPS to find the right direction I needed to leave. Then I pressed the button on the ball and it a light on it started to slowly flash red and gradually get faster. I tossed it into the hole and started to run as fast as I could down the hill and away from the site. I started back the way I had came and hopped over bushes. My mind racing with thousands of thoughts, what was that I had just thrown into that site and was that the ranger base? What is going to happen now and what am I supposed to do with these coins? How did I know how to access everything in the ruins and how did I instinctively know everything I knew? Am I dreaming? I slipped under the fence at the edge of the check point and was spotted by a cop who was using a bush for a toilet. He yelled for me to stop as he rushed to finish what he had been doing. Just then a loud explosion went off in the distance and the ground shook under the tremendous force of the explosion. Every cop at the roadblock raced to their cruisers and sped off towards the blast, well all of them except the one that had been relieving himself at the bush. He apparently didn’t have a car and just stood shocked staring me. “What did you do?” he gasped. I just looked at him the ski mask hiding my face only revealing my lips and eyes. “Only what I had to do, to protect everyone.” I spun on my heels and started to run again. The cop didn’t follow me or attempt to stop me, just stood there for a minute and then turned to look off at the visible smoke pouring up from the hill in the distance. I got to the truck as several cops went blasting by sirens blaring and lights flashing. I didn’t see anything else but black in the distance so I started driving off. I didn’t see anyone until I reached the Interstate. A few cars were in my lane of traffic headed to L.A., yet all I could see in the oncoming lanes of traffic were cops and black SUVs flying by. I pulled up at my uncle’s house and took everything into the house. I changed in the guest room and replaced all the gear I had used to my uncles closet in his rec room. He was sitting on the couch watching T.V. and didn’t look at me when I walked in. He suddenly spoke when I had closed the closet and walked over to him. “It’s all over the news; an explosion out in the desert, nothing else has been released.” He said weary eyed. “Even woke the governor up at 2 a.m. and had him make a statement.” “Where was it?” I asked, despite having witnessed it first hand, “Anyone hurt?”.
He finally looked at me and shook his head. “They haven’t said other than it was out in the middle of the desert. I have a feeling it was the alien site. The news said that nobody but local cops were out there and only two of them were rushed to the hospital. Said they were fine except a few scrapes and bruises from the force of the blast.” I turned to walk away and my uncle got up and turned off the T.V. and looked at me. “On a different note, where have you been all night and with my truck and my very expensive Columbia sportswear ski jacket?” I Grinned at him and said “Old man, you know we southern boys aren’t used to the chilly nights here. Plus, I met a few frat boys while I was on campus visiting you and they invited me to a party. It’s not like I’m underage anymore and It’s been so long since I’ve had any fun.” I knew playing the dead parents card would work, despite having to stoop that low. He quickly stepped back and put his hand on my shoulder “I’m not upset with you Rick, in fact I’m proud that your doing so well with everything, you’ve had it rough and had to grow up really fast. It hasn’t been easy for you recently and everything now on your plate. That’s why I flew you out here this week, I’m too far away to help you with the day to day things, but I can still make sure that you’re coping and not throwing away the life you had built for yourself before everything changed with the accident. You and your brothers are legally adults now so as your god parents your aunt and I couldn’t legally adopt you and move you out here, nor did any of you want to move here and live with us.” This was true, I had my job and life back home and a lot to manage with my parents unfinished projects and financial obligations.
I’d just moved back into my parents’ house with my girlfriend and took care of the dogs and things there. My two younger brothers had just started their freshman year of college about 4 hours away from home. They had been home for fall break when everything happened. They stayed a couple of weeks and worked it out with the university so they could take some time off. After a while we all sat down and talked about it and they went back to school. They seemed to be coping as best as they could, but there wasn’t any reason they should hang around. I told them that they could decide whether to transfer to the local university when summer came. I said goodnight to my uncle and went to the guest room, I hadn’t sat down to actually come to terms with everything that has happened or digest all of what I had found out about my parents. How did I know what to do at the site? Its as if a wealth of information has been added to my brain. I’ve been saying things and doing things instinctively, things I haven’t ever done before. I sat on the bed and went over everything in my mind. I set the two boxes in front of me and closed my eyes and prayed for guidance. After a while I finally slipped into a restless slumber.

A dark figure walks at a steady pace down the corridor to the main chamber. You can see a hint of silver armor at every step when his cape moves aside. He approaches a large throne in the center of the chamber. The chamber is dim with maps of the earth all over the walls complete with topography and populations. The figure sits heavily on the throne and leans his staff against the arm rest. Two figures enter the chamber and bow before him. “Where did that fool Lord Zed fail…we shall take that first. Focus our attacks in different regions of the North American continent first. After they fall to us, the others will surrender or face the same fate.” The booming voice of the dark lord echos in the chamber. The two figures before him rise, “Master, we will start planning our first strike. We have not detected any sign of the force that defeated Zed’s army.” the first one says timidly. “Keep searching, I sense a faint trace of something I cant place. Dismissed.” The master says as he leans back and rests his head. The two peons scurry from the room and out of sight. Zordon wouldn’t leave this planet defenseless would he? He thought to himself as he studied the map of North America from his throne.
