Now, this fic has been a long time coming, as I posted it on fanfiction.net back in October(under my penname there, Umbrus-Sama), but re-wrote it several times since then. This is the beginnings of the fourth iteration of the tale, and I've finally worked up the nerve to give it a test run with the people I trust enough to call "PR Experts." Please be reminded that this is my first attempt at a Power Ranger fanfic, as well as the first fanfic in general I ever started. Please be truthful in your opinions, but I beg of you, don't rip me apart and pour salt in the various wounds.;)
And now I give you, Ladies and Gentlemen of RangerBoard...

A fic by ZeoRangerVIIWhite/Umbrus-Sama
This tale begins a decade ago, in the year 1995. Back then, the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers were locked in a struggle with Lord Zedd, his wife, Rita Repulsa, and their forces of evil.
On October 24 of that year, however, rangers of past and present were reunitled for a carefree day of relaxation. While the rangers’ guard was down, Zedd and Rita decided to take advantage. They pooled their collective dark magics and created a spell designed to turn the current rangers to the Dark Side. With only the rangers’ old friends left to fight, the Earth would have to surrender. The spell worked better than they had hoped. The spell affected anyone who had come in contact with the power: Meaning that the former rangers were also affected and became evil, as did their current counterparts. Seeing that having evil former rangers would bear little fruit, Zedd and Rita combined their efforts once again, and thus restored the original rangers.
As soon as the spell hit, the rangers immediately teleported to the Command Center, and laid waste to it. The rangers took the schematics to Alpha 5, and shut off Zordon’s transmissions to this dimension. The rangers then proceeded to do Zedd and Rita’s bidding, and began to systematically conquer the planet.
Naturally, various resistance forces appeared, but nearly all of them were easily crushed by the rangers. Armed with a nearly endless supply of Alpha-based Stormtroopers, as well as Putties, Tengas, and their own abilities, no one could stop the forces of darkness.
Of course, if something’s too good to be true, it usually is. The spell not only awakened the darkness residing in the rangers’ hearts, but amplified it a hundred-fold as time passed. On Christmas Day in the year 2003, the rangers staged the now-infamous Ranger Revolution. They apparently destroyed Rita and Zedd, and proceeded to plunge the Earth into further darkness.
Now in the present day, the Leader of the Power Rangers is the Warlord of Earth. One of the last resistances has offered five fighters to combat the ranger menace. These warriors are Earth’s Last Stand against the Dark Empire…

Hmmmm. It's weird. I don't mean the story's weird, I mean what I get from it is kind of weird. It took a couple readings to get a better, but not necessarily complete understanding of the story you mean to begin telling here. It kind of reads like a sales pitch wrought with frantic, nervous energy, but the background for the story it purports to tell about actually does sound intersting, from what I understand about it. The first bit of confusion comes where you mention that Ranger's of past and present are reunited and that a spell turns them all evil. But it's said that the intention of the spell was to turn the current Ranger's evil and leave the old Ranger's to fight in their place. First of all, the lack of information makes things unclear if, by Ranger's past and present, you mean Jason, Trini, Zack, Tommy, Kim, Billy, Aisha, Rocky and Adam, or some other Ranger's teams from the extended past as well. There are so few details given throughout this intro, and this was one of the confusing results of that. The other thing that was a little weird was that what you wrote was a small intro that seems to be so in an attempt to give the audience the basic information they'll need to follow the plot of the story, but stuff like:
...Zedd and Rita decided to take advantage.
If this paragraph had been written a bit..."tighter", you wouldn't have to put in the "Meaning...," sentence, because you already put enough in there to hammer home the point that they were all turned evil, and then you even reiterated (again) that the current Ranger's were turned evil. We got that. You really don't need the "as did their current counterparts" as you've already dedicated more than enough lines to expressing that point. If you'd used "alongside their counterparts" it would have been better, but still re-addressing a point already taken. It also felt like you didn't need to write that the spell was intended to only work on the current Ranger's but ended up working on everyone. You could have just said from the start that it worked on everyone. The fact that it wasn't meant to work on such a grand scale is a detail that is interesting in a story being told, but not in an small intro that aims to only give basic plot details. It could still be a point that could be added to the intro, but there are better ways to write it so that it's done effectively.
Another detail (or lack there of) that is confusing is the desgination of Ranger powers. You wrote that Rita and Zedd thought it wouldn't do any good to turn the former Rangers evil if they had no Powers, so their original Powers were restored. Since we don't know who you mean exactly by "former Ranger's" or "current Ranger's old friends", we can't be sure what powers were restored here, but if by former Ranger's you are including Jason, Zack, and Trini, does that mean there are 2 Black Morphin Ranger's, 2 Yellow Morphin Ranger's and 2 Red Morphin Ranger's in this Dark Empire? I'm confused about how that works out, especially when it comes to the piloting of Zord's.
I know this is set up for another story you're telling, but I think this background information you gave here would actually make a really good story itself. Have you considered making this intro into an actual full story? Because I think you have all the makings for a really good one here, and then the story this is supposed to lead into could make a good sequel. Just a thought. The other benefit of making this part into a story itself would be to clear up all the confusion and lack of details we have here, such as which teen holds which Power's, and if it's only the circa 1995 MMPR's we're dealing with here, or Ranger's from ddeper in the past, too.
Also, I'm not sure about this, but didn't every time the CC got destroyed in the series, the Ranger's ended up losing that current Power set (MMPR, Turbo)? Wouldn't that mean, Tommy, Adam, Billy, Kimberly, Aisha and Rocky wouldn't have their Ranger powers for this? Anyway, aside from all that, the story you've set up does sound pretty good. I don't believe I've come across a Fic yet that has placed the MMPR's in the role of the lead villains, and certainly not made them responsible for Earth's conquest. A round of applause to you for finding something unique for the MMPR's to do and be in the fan fic universe. It'll be interesting to see what you make of a world that's been under the thumb of Power Ranger's whose inner-evil has been amplified a hundred-fold (I'm guessing a lot of people died in those 8 years). If I'm understanding correctly, the Ranger's overthrew Rita and Zedd in order to take their place, not to defeat their evil (it wasn't terribly clear if that was the case or, maybe the Ranger's turned good shortly, killed Zedd and Rita, and maybe that re-ignited the flames of evil within them again). It could also be interesting to see how these 5 Warriors will contend with the evil Ranger's. I'm guessing a new set of Powers is coming into play. Also, can we expect these 5 warriors to be original characters, or characters that may be familiar to the PR Universe already? I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Wow. Thank you for your honesty. I honestly didn't notice several things you pointed out, which is exactly why I decided to post my epic here. Let's see...
Hmmmm. The other thing that was a little weird was that what you wrote was a small intro that seems to be so in an attempt to give the audience the basic information they'll need to follow the plot of the story.
When I was addressing "Rangers of past and present," I meant all ten of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Jason, Trini, Zack, and Kimberly were the old friends I was referring to. (I know it may be a tad bit early for Katherine to be introduced, as well as being a power ranger, but...creative license! Gotta love it!
To put it simply, yes. There are two of every color except Blue and White. Confusing yes, but do not fear friend. I have a plan for how it works out.
I know this is set up for another story you're telling, but I think this background information you gave here would actually make a really good story itself. Have you considered making this intro into an actual full story? Because I think you have all the makings for a really good one here, and then the story this is supposed to lead into could make a good sequel. Just a thought. The other benefit of making this part into a story itself would be to clear up all the confusion and lack of details we have here, such as which teen holds which Power's, and if it's only the circa 1995 MMPR's we're dealing with here, or Ranger's from ddeper in the past, too.
...I never thought of making the intro a story in itself. I could do that as a prequel to this story. Thanks for the inspiration!
Also, the command center wasn't completely destroyed, they just shut down Zordon's transmissions to this world and deactivated Alpha, and roughed the place up a bit. Kinda like what the Green Ranger did that one time. (not completely sure though)
Thank you. The strange thing is the idea came from a random post I made here about combining the powers of the dark side of the Force and Tommy. Someone (Whom if memory serves, was our very own ZeoSaturn, going by the name Pestilence at the time) took that idea and ran with it, drawing a picture of Tommy dressed as the Emperor from Star Wars with the Green Ranger's shield over the cloak. In fact I may have saved that pic so I could treasure it. If I can find it, I'll post it here again so you can see what I'm talking about.
As to the people dying part...you'll see once I get to that point in the story.
You are correct in regards to the rangers rebelling against Zedd and Rita to take their place as the overlords of Earth.
And finally, the five chosen heroes are all original characters, but the new set of powers will be extremely familiar to anyone who watched Power rangers from the beginning.
