Again, I hope you're not trying to take on too much with regard to bandwidth consumption and such. Remember to account for the RangerBoard monthly caption threads as one source of bandwidth usage. If I were you, I'd institute a .htaccess file to prevent remote image loading. It does cut back on bandwidth. My whole domain is blocked from remote loading. I have an ImageShack account that I use to showcase pictures when I need to. :)

If you do need to get a good server with a lot of bandwidth, might I recommend http://www.godaddy.com/ ? GoDaddy has some pretty impressive - and cheaply priced - hosting plans, and there's always PHPWebhosting - http://www.phpwebhosting.com - which is always $9.95/month, unlimited space and unmetered bandwidth included.

I hate domain "placeholders." I can't rescue my old LunarWolf.net domain, since it's taken by the same "placeholder" company. :P

1. Bandwidth isn't as big of a problem as it used to be. My monthly used to be 70GB, not it's 500GB. :)

2. Yeah, I did the .htaccess at the starpoints and I may implement that later done the line.

3. Yea, bust out those banners. :)

4. LunarWolf.net...now that's a great domain name. It sucks when a great domain name is taken and yet not used.

Did you, by any chance, do a whois search to see what company snagged your old domain? I did for LWNet, and found NOLDC (http://www.noldc.com/) to be the culprit. (NOLDC is the New Orleans Leftover Data Center.) They snagged the name in 2004, and currently have ownership of it until 2007. I should put it on backorder, but I tried that once before and never got any result. :P

Yea, that's the first place I looked and it was the same NOLDC for mine too. I did research and tried to email people in their company, admins, and webmasters, but no luck getting a hold of anyone. Domains are like real estate these days and having a domain in dead space when it could be used is a real waste.

search engine. This will be a great resource to easily find and promote PR sites.

This is still a work-in-progress and I am looking for suggestions on category names or topics before officially releasing the search engine live.

I think its pretty cool that Starpoints has been reborn. It was before my time in the online fandom but I haver heard so much about it. I did visit it a few times at liberies, before I had a cpu ( not enough to really say I was a regular, just once actually). I also saw some archives of it at Way Back Machine, but those were incomplete. In an age when great webmasters are leaving with few replacements, its good to get one back.

That sucks about the domain, but your new domain could become just as popular someday. My advise is to periodically try and contact the registrar. You might get lucky someday and get a good deal. It might not be likely, but you never know.

Yea, I remember the good old days of a group of awesome webmasters. Some of them are still around, like our favorite MegaBlue! :) I've been monitoring the PR web the past couple years but been hella busy with finishing my 2nd degree. Can't promise that my site will be as good as StarPoints, but one can hope. I just want to see the PR web more active again. It's amazing how the forums, especially this one, has really become a hotspot for PR communication.

I'll take your tip on the domain. Whether I get it back or not, I'm cool. But I will definitely try. Currently, I am getting no response from them.
