Read this to know what I am riting about. (http://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/anzac/anzac_tradition.htm)
25th of April is an important day for all Australians, at home or otherwise. So why did it never get a mention of Kat in ZEO or Turbo? Here's my take on what may have happened.
"Did she say where they were going?" Tommy asked Tanya as the Rangers gather at the Youth Centre as normal. All save the Pink Ranger, Kat.
"Just that her family had something important to do," the Yellow Ranger said. "All I found were two words on their calenders for the 25th of April."
"What?" Rocky asked.
"ANZAC Day."

The Hillard family sat silently as the Dawn Service moved on. It was something they had all agreed to do after they moved to America. Kat had made sure it was okay with Zordon. Actually, it had happened more along the lines of 'I'm going'. this was too important to her, and her family, to miss.
The congragation stood as the Master of Ceremonies called for the recitation of the Ode.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
As one, the assembled said the last line, voices full of emotion.
"Lest we forget."

Fraid so, Splush. It's just a simple thing looking at what Kat's family might do on ANZAC Day. If you ask really nicely, though, I might set one up for Xander. XD

This chapter could have used some more description. And maybe a plot.
...What's ANZAC Day? *ignorant of non-US customs*

Not supposed to be a plot, Dark Knight. And there is no more, WILDKAT.
ANZAC day is like Memorial day, a day where we remember the soldiers that have and are still at war on behalf of Australia and New Zealand. ANZAC is Australian and New Zealand Army Corp and was first used in 1914 when a joint attack was planned and attempted on the shores of Gallipoli in Turkey. It was one of the bloodiest battles in Australian history, conditions were crap, beauracratic bullshit was the order of the day and no one seemed to care if the soldiers lived or died. They used the old tactic of trench warfare, going over the top of the trenches and charging at the enemy, which didn't really work with the first machine guns on the other side.
It's one of the most important national holidays down here, because the ANZAC spirit of courage, loyalty, mateship and dedication is something we Australiana and our Kiwi cousins hold dear. It's a day set aside for all the sodiers in our armed forces, past, present and future. A day to remember them, always.

Not supposed to be a plot, Dark Knight.
And that's a problem. Seriously.
"It was Christmas. Tommy opened his presents. He was psyched."
That's what your set of paragraphs boils down to. There was nothing unique; nothing interesting.
And Kat was horribly misrepresented. Do you honestly think she'd just disappear without telling anyone, especially Tanya, who (depending on the timeframe) lived with her?

See, this could have been explained in the story. Perhaps Kat telling her friends where and why she was going, rather than just uncharacteristically disappearing and letting them read the day off her calendar.
There was no location (Church? Likely, but not the only possiblity. Lodge? Meeting house? Cemetary?).
Nor was it explained why she had to go to Turkey. I assume that not every Australian made the pilgrimage; so why did hers?
This was not a "take". This was you typing out what your parents did and throwing Kat's name in.
If ANZAC Day really means so much to you, you could incorporate it into a good story with plot. That'd be way more respectful.

I think the point of this stroy was to give light to ANZAC day, was that the idea Ranger of Oz?

That was exactly it, Crimson Dragon. Thankyou.
There was no idea beyond this, no extension, no real connection to the Rangers everyday life. It was to portray it as something apart from it, as something for the Hillards alone, because, out of everyone in Angel Grove, they're the only ones it really meant something to. It's a part of who they are, where they'r from.

But you didn't go into that in the actual story, is my point.
By "give light" do you mean mention it and that's all? Because that's really about all this accomplished.

Nice idea, but it needs a little more flesching out. Who was Kat's family? Did she have brothers and sisters? Or just her parents?

I have to agree with everyone. I had actually read a story someone else did on fanfiction.net a few weeks ago that has Xander bow out of training with the Mystic Force Rangers for an ANZAC Day ceremony, and the story ties in how his grandfather fought in that war and how his father fought at Vietnam, but how they're both peaceful men at heart... explaining why Xander always tries to talk people out of fighting beforehand, because he doesn't like fighting unless he has no choice. That story tied the whole ANZAC Day thing with an full plot and was stronger for it.
So it's not that your story was a bad idea... far from it. It could've just used some fleshing out.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice. Honetly? I came up with this at work and didn't think past what I have up. Next time, I'll think it through a bit more.
