It’s a late afternoon in a construction yard; burly workers are slaving in the hot sun laying down foundations for a future building. A cement truck arrives and several workers make way for its eventual outpour. One particular hardhat arrives with a sack over his shoulder, seemingly giving him much strain. He seems as if he’s walking with doubled weight, though in truth, the sack isn’t that heavy. He’s a young man, much younger than most of his coworkers. His foreman takes notice of his act, knowing full well the true weight of a sack of office tools.
Foreman: “Adlan?”
Adlan: “Oh oh…”
Adland picks up his pace; apparently the sack just got a lot lighter. The foreman doesn’t take to kindly to this,
Foreman: “Adland, front and center!”
Adland: “Ah, man…”
Adland heads toward his supervisor. He removes his hardhat and sets the sack on the ground. His eyes are lowered, avoiding contact with the foreman.
Foreman: “Adland, I pulled a lot of strings to get you working here; a kid your age out here isn’t common at all, and I expect you to keep a prime work ethic or you’ll wind up making me look bad.”
Adlan: “…Right, sir.”
Adlan walks off; sack in tow. His foreman shakes his head a little, and then goes about his responsibilities. The work day’s about over, and workers prepare to head home. Special portables are set up as locker room areas, and Adlan is met by his boss.
Foreman: “Son, if you don’t want to work here, you can -“
Adlan: “It’s not that, dad. I was just… I don’t know…”
Father: “Adlan, when me and Grace took you in -“
Adlan: “Dad, not now.”
Adlan walks off with in haste, not looking back. A co-worker comes to his father’s side, placing a hand on his shoulder,
Co-Worker: “Maybe he needs more time, Gary. He called you ‘dad’, I heard it.”
Gary: “Yeah, I guess he did.”
In the streets on Crestview, Adlan walks alone. The shadows are getting long as the day dies down, and Adlan is not really walking home. He’s looking down as he usually does, a loner dressed in black with more on his mind and little coming from his mouth. Until he bumps into someone,
Adlan: “Oh, I’m so -“
She wore a pink tank-top, white pants, and bracelets that bordered between annoyingly large or fashionably acceptable. Adlan was taken off guard by the prettiest face he’s seen all his life.
Girl: “I, I’m sorry! I was checking out something across the street and didn’t see you!”
Adlan: “It’s cool; it was my fault, really.”
Girl (Smiling): “Well if you want it to be.”
She looks about the area, then at Adlan himself. In a black plaid shirt and dark pants, he seemed different from the rest of the small town crowd, not that she’s know what’s common in Crestview anyway.
Girl: “You live around here?”
Adlan: “Um, yeah, all my life. You’re new here..?”
Girl: “Don’t I just look like it?”
Adlan: “You look… fine to me.”
The girl takes a more direct look at Adlan, who promptly looks away. She smiles slightly, but fixes her expression.
Girl: “Thank you.”
Adlan: “My name’s Adlan Hawke.”
Adlan extends his hand. The girl happily shakes it,
Girl: “Patricia, or just Pat.”
Adlan: “Okay, Pat. I guess I’ll be seeing you around.”
Adlan slowly walks off, looking down. His face shows an expression of forgetting something, willfully. Pat glances at him, and bites her lip with a look of confusion and bated breath. She finally exhales with a sigh and raises her hand,
Pat: “Um, Adlan, is it?”
Adlan turns around confusingly.
Pat: “I’m still lost…”
Adlan smiles and returns to her. For the next half hour Adlan taught her routes about town, and Pat explained her family’s constant moving experience. They enjoyed each others company, and laughed quite a bit. Adlan was partially estranged by her self-confidence, interrupted by odd flashes of uncertainty; Pat is the most interesting person Adlan as ever met. He even treated her to a meal at Hardy’s. They were done when Pat checked her watch, which was hidden within the five beaded bracelets she kept on her left wrist.
Pat: “I should be going; I had to get home a while ago. My father’s a talker.”
Adlan: “I know the feeling… You know your way home from here?”
Pat: “I’ll probably need you halfway.”
Adlan (Smiling): “Alright.”
Its sundown; Adlan and Pat almost out of the closing shopping district.
Pat: “So you and your dad, huh?”
Adlan: “He’s not really my dad; he took me in just a few months ago. It’s a long story.”
Pat: “I’d like to hear about it one day.”
Adlan: “Maybe when we -”
Adlan looks to his left, slowing his pace.
Pat: “…What?”
Adlan: “You hear that?”
Pat: “What was it?”
Adlan: “…Nothing.”
Then the shadows beneath Adlan and Pat stretch under their feet, contorting into odd shapes at the complete ignorance of the walking teens. The shadows slip right from under them, causing a hissing type – slipping sound. They both turn to see their shadows transfer into three dimensions, and stand up!
The shadow-figures morph into two separate beings; resembling mimes with no faces, and wearing something of a coat/cape with slick endings. They immediately huddled close together with their heads bobbing about in a slow alien motion. Adlan gets between Pat and the two humanoid creatures. Behind them outstretched a large shadowy mass. It then morphed into a sleek feminine figure with pale skin and a black mask. Her nails were claw-like and her eyes flashed a brief and unnerving violet. She also sported an odd coat like cape.
Pat (Whisper): “…Vipress…”

The two shadow creatures began a slow creep toward Adlan and Pat.
Pat: “I’m so sorry, Adlan, I should have told you - ”
Adlan: “What do you mean, get outta here, Pat!”
Before the shadow abominations got any closer three figures appeared in a flash of light, blinding the creatures and the dark woman. When the light faded, three figures in bright clothing stood between the creatures and the human couple, apparently the only humans on the scene. Two were male; one red, one blue; the other a female in yellow.
Red Auto Squad Ranger: “Patricia, get him to safety, we got this!”
Adlan looks back at Pat in extreme confusion then back to see the stand-off. Pat takes Adlan’s hand and pulls him to the side. Adlan couldn’t help but back at the rangers, particularly the red one,
Adlan: “…Pat, what’s going on; all of this feels so…”
Pat: “…Yes, go on…”
Adlan: “…I don’t know.”
An explosion draws their attention. The Power Rangers are locked a fierce battle with Vipress and her thugs, called Darklings. The Red Ranger is engaged with Vipress herself, though she seems more skilled. She moves about the battle as if floating, the very shadows following her commands to trick and confuse her enemy. Vipress is not meant to be fought alone. The Blue and Yellow Rangers have a melee with the two Darklings, holding their own well. But the Darklings fall back into the shadows…
Blue Ranger: “That’s right, fall back shadow creeps!”
The Darklings reappear, doubled in numbers. The four Darklings approach the two rangers, and begin to flank them. The rangers go back to back,
Yellow Ranger: “You just had to open your mouth.”
Blue Ranger: “Chill out, they don’t stand a chance. Servo-Busters!”
The Blue and Yellow Rangers bull out blasters, red and white pistol shaped weapons with black handles. Blue Ranger poses with the blaster pointed outward, Yellow Ranger crouches beneath him pointing her blaster the other way.
Blue Ranger: “Let’s do it!”
They blast Darklings in on either side, leaving two left. These Darklings hold out their arms, and black blades protrude from their wrists. They run toward the rangers, hacking laser fire out of their way. Pat sees this advanced tactic,
Pat: “This isn’t right, they seem stronger… Adlan, you don’t remember anything?!”
Adlan: “What are you talking about?!”
Explosions are heard in the background, as well as the Red ranger’s grunts in his losing battle against Vipress.
Pat: “We didn’t want to you to learn this way… Look…”
Pat reveals a type of cell phone.
Pat: “It’s my Accellular. We all have one, to morph. You did, too.”
She gives him one, and he takes it, examining it as if he’d never seen anything like. Pat’s eyes await some sort of reaction.
Adlan: “You mean…”
The sounds of battle echo toward Pat and Adlan.
Blue Ranger: “Servo-Blaster Blade Mode!”
Yellow Ranger: “Alright, try this on for size!” (Minor explosions occur)
Red Ranger: “You won’t get away this time, Vipress!”
Pat looks back at the battle, and lowers her head. She begins to run off. Adlan catches up with her, holding her arm,
Adlan: “No, what are you doing -”
Pat: “I’m one of them Adlan! And they need me. I’m sorry, I thought you were ready, but Jerek was right, you can’t remember… anything. Goodbye, Adlan.”
To Adlan’s shock Patricia kisses him, and she runs off. She extends her Accellular and pulls it back, flipping it open. She inputs a dial-code,
Pat: “Auto Form, Ha!”
A tornado of pink light and water circles her, leaving her body a bright pink. The lights fade to reveal her as the Auto Squad Pink Ranger. A silver circle appears on her chest and a pink streak of light cuts across it, leaving a distinctive angled black and red mark in the circle. Her helmet seemingly transforms from her suit to her head.
Pat: “Auto Squad Pink Ranger!”
She flips into battle, assisting the Auto Squad Red Ranger first, making his fight against Vipress more leveled. Adlan watches this in shock, but hasn’t moved since the kiss. Something about it was… familiar. Then a quick flash of Pat appears in his head, kissing him again; but in a different place, a different time.
Another flash appears, this time with him and two other young men standing in a strange control room, speaking something of an oath. A hundred more flashes appear in the window of a second, and Adlan collapse. He recovers, and the flashes become memories, solid memories of himself… in black.
Adlan: “Vipress…”

In the battle, the four Auto Squad Rangers have exterminated any and all Darklings with their Servo-Blades, but Vipress held her own, and now she’s confident enough to begin boasting,
Vipress: “You Rangers really are pathetic! I wipe your Black Ranger’s mind clean of his memories, and you try to make due, but you are still four. And then you will be three, and then two; until you are all destroyed!”
Adlan: “I wouldn’t be so sure, Vipress.”
Adlan walks into the scene, a human in the middle of a super-powered battle.
Blue Auto Squad Ranger: “Adlan..?”
Red Auto Squad Ranger: “Could it be..?”
Yellow Auto Squad Ranger: “It must be true!”
Pink Auto Squad Ranger: “…Yes.”
Adlan pulls out his Accellular, and extends it.
Adlan: “Vipress, you took parts of my life away from me!”
He pulls it back, and inputs a dial-code.
Adlan: “But you will never hurt someone again! Auto Form!!”
Black boulders fall from the sky and crumble on top of Adlan; they then explode to reveal Adlan in white light. The light fades, leaving Adlan as the Black Auto Squad Ranger! White light streaks across his chest, leaving the same black and red mark as is on the other rangers. His helmet forms from his suit, fitting his head.
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “Auto Squad…”
His silver shoulder pads shine.
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “Black Ranger…”
His belt gleams of light, his helmet shines extra bright. The Black Auto Squad Ranger strikes a pose,
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “Back in action!”
The other rangers appear alongside him, and they all make a stand together. The Auto Squad symbol appears behind them, followed by a multi colored explosion. Vipress raises an eyebrow.
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “What were you saying, about cutting our numbers down?”
The Black Ranger approaches Vipress, his hands formed into shaking fists.
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “Hurting my friends, stealing our memories!!”
He throws his hand in the air, the other rangers follow suit.
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “Well it’s not gonna happen! Autobahn Arsenal!!”
The rangers reveal individual weapons colored and specified to each of the five.
Black Auto Squad Ranger: “Rumble Hammer!”
Pink Auto Squad Ranger: “Hydro Shooter!”
Blue Auto Squad Ranger: “Aero Fan! Adlan’s back, yeah!”
Yellow Auto Squad Ranger: “Boulder Claws!”
Red Auto Squad Ranger: “Good to have you back Adlan. Rumble Staff!”
Auto Squad Power Rangers: “Crush… Darkness!!”
They extend approach Vipress with their weapons ready, not only is the fight fair, but a victory is at hand. A long awaited victory, which could only mean one thing.
Vipress: “How cute, the five of you are whole again. But hear me and hear me well, I will end you Power Rangers!”
Darkness envelops Vipress, and she disappears from view. The rangers lower their weapons, but Adlan clinches his, long after their arch-nemesis is gone.
The next morning, Adlan is just returning home. His foster father hasn’t slept, he waited all night for Adlan. He hears a knock on the door and rushed to it, and to his happiness, he sees Adlan. Pat is also there, a few steps from the door.
Gary: “Adlan, me and Grace were worried sick and… Adlan?”
Adlan: “I’m sorry, but I need to go. I remember now.”
Gary remains silent, and lowers his head. A woman appears behind Gary, and rushes to hug Adlan.
Grace: “Adlan where were you?!”
Gary: “He has his memories, Grace. He knows where he belongs.”
Grace: “…Adlan I’m… I’m happy for you…”
Adlan: “Who and what I am is so important, I can’t put you guys in harms way, I have to go. You guys took me in because I had no family; and I lost something a while ago that made it dangerous for me to stay where I was. But I got it back now. I have to go back and pick up where I left off.”
Grace: “You will always be ours, you know this.”
Gary: “Yes, Adlan; we won’t take you away from your real family but you’ll always have another right here.”
Adlan smiles, and turns to Patricia.
Adlan: “This is Patricia.”
Pat: “Hi. Thank you for caring for Adlan.”
Gary: “We always wanted a son.”
Adlan and Pat begin to walk off. Adlan turns back to his father and hugs him, then shaking his hand,
Adlan: “I’ll be back.”
Gary: “I hope you’re not as lazy where you’re going.”
Adlan: “You don’t have to worry about that, dad.”
Gary: “Need a ride, son?”
Adlan: “We got one.”
Adlan and Pat become a ball of pink and white light, and they teleport to parts unknown. Gary looks at Grace and smiles in disbelief. They both look up at the sky, imagining the next time they would see the son they never had. Adlan, Black Ranger of Power Rangers Auto Squad 5.
