A Ranger's Duty - SPD Max Ranger! Number Nine!

"Sir!" A D-squad cadet saluted. "Dr. Manx reports that the suspect has escaped somewhere though a time portal."

Doggie Crueger, Commander of the Space Patrol Delta's Earth Branch, native of Sirius, and the S.P.D. Shadow Ranger, sheathed his Shadow Saber and growled. He whipped out his Master License and flipped it open to "Phone".

"Kat," he growled into the speaker, "compile a debriefing and a list of options and meet me in the Command Center in 0015 minutes."

"Roger," came Kat's response. Crueger flipped the License closed and dismissed the cadet, then paged the B-Squad for the same amount of time.

Fifteen minutes later, Crueger, Dr. Manx, and the remaining four members of B-Squad had gathered in the Command Center. The female Nekojin placed a datacard on the table and a hologram extended up into the air. The four Rangers gathered around it, standing respectfully at attention - blond-haired Red Ranger Schuyler "Sky" Tate; dirty-blonde Blue Ranger Bridge Carson; black-haired Yellow Ranger Elizabeth "Z" Delgado; and finally, shorter than the others, white-blonde Pink Ranger Sydney "Syd" Drew. Their eyes scanned the data presented as Commander Crueger spoke.

"Dr. Manx, the situation thus far?" Crueger asked.

"At 0800 hours this morning, the convicted criminal Vcheleran infiltrated our base, specifically targeting the Archives. Due to the recent Kaijuuku Gang activity in the city, however, B-Squad was out on patrol. After taking what he wanted, he escaped through a time portal to, from my calculations, some time in the past. From damage assessment, Vcheleran only stole the 5 Transdaggers, used by a group of Rangers from the past, the Galaxy Rangers."

"They were given as a gift back in 2001 to Earth from Miranoi, in promise of peace. The agreement between the planets, as you know from training, laid the foundation for Space Patrol Delta, which Sirius's members expanded upon. They were kept for a time in the possession of Dr. Thomas Oliver's collection, along with various other Ranger artifacts, but when Earthbase opened in 2012, he donated the entirety of the collection to the archives."

"The Transdaggers were on a list of objects to study, and their transforming abilities probably formed the basis for Sam's morpher. With that technology, I'm not sure what he could do..." she trailed off.

"Thank you, Kat," Crueger said. "B-Squad? Any ideas?"

"Is there any way we could get back in time?" Syd asked, directing her question to her superior. Kat shook her head.

"I've been working on that technology since Sam first appeared in this timeline. Above a certain mass, I can't open a portal. I assume someday this will change, because Sam was sent back, but for now... it's impossible."

"Then what can we do, Kat?" Sky asked.

Kat sighed. "I was getting to that." She pressed a button on her remote. "Here is a new suit I was working on. It's not connected to a Delta License, right now, but that can be arranged quickly."

"What're you going to do, send the license back in time?" Bridge asked incredulously. "The odds would be astronomical! Or at least, they would be, if it were possible, which they might be if we could do it..."

Z cut him off. "So we just have to hope someone finds the License when it appears in the past?"

Kat shifted. "It's slightly easier than that. I can send it to specific coordinates, if I need to, but I don't know where to send it. We'd have no control over who receives the power, or anything of that nature."

The Rangers lapsed into silence...

Where will they send the License? We'll meet our hero next time, so watch for the update! SPD Max Ranger, go!

This could go somewhere, but you ignored build up completely. I don't even know where these people are prior to being in the Command Center. It's cool you included D-Squad by the way.

I look forward to seeing the update. Like Eternal said, this could go somewhere. I'd just focus a bit more on buildup.

I understand what you mean, but the majority of the action (okay, all of it) takes place in present-day 2005, so I went on the assumption that as Rangerboarders you'd know who the characters are. I didn't want to spend too much time on it, but had I not had this intention, I'd agree with you totally.

October, 2005...

It was a dark and stormy ni-

No, wait - it wasn't.

It was dark and stormy, though.

On this dark and stormy day, a teenaged boy lounged around his living room, reading. As he balanced the book on his lap with one hand, the other played with the end of his brown ponytail absentmindedly. It was mid-afternoon, but the dark outside seemed more apt to nighttime. He turned a page.

The rain had caused flooding on a highway, leading the town to cancel that Friday's school day. His mother, a teacher, had also the day off and had taken both younger siblings out to stores, leaving him home, alone. After what happened next, he was almost suspicious of conspiracy.

The first thing the boy noticed was the strange light. Then came the humming, which finally caused him to tear himself from the book to locate the source.

The book fell to the ground as he stood up.

A swirling vortex about a foot in diameter was floating above his coffee table. Slowly, a rectangular black device with white trim emerged from the center to land on the table with a slight clunk. He looked closer, as the vortex began to swirl into it.

The letters "S.P.D" was emblazoned on it in white, and in the upper corners two red lights flashed. Inbetween lay a grey button of sorts. A lever adorned the right side, and it was currently in the position labelled "Phone", the other choices being "Change" and "Judge".

The boy picked up the device which fit into his hand well. After inspecting the entire device and finding only a small switch on the side labeled "On/off" and being in the "On" position, he pressed the gray button.

Someone was saying something, and as he listened, the words began to come louder...
