Summary:
Meet the 8 students of New Tech High, karate captain Jack Landors, quarterback star Sky Tate, diligent student Z Delgado, Head cheerleader Sydney Drew, computer whiz kid Bridge Carson, bookworm Kat Manx, the hatred Mora Randal and wheel-runner star Sam Reynolds. 8 friends who all attend New Tech High, but are different from each other. Although their difference, their friendship with each other is very rare.

1. Jacob “Jack” Johnson Landors
Jack Landors is the big flirt on New Tech High. He goes for every girl in New Tech High, except for one. The lovely and popular Sydney Drew, who he finds annoying. The love-hate relationship between those 2 is very complicated. His number one position of most wanted guy of New Tech High, he has to share with long time enemy Sky Tate. Jack is very protective of his adopted sister Z and doesn’t like it when she starts to hang out with Sky. He’s scared that she will grow closer to his enemy and that Sky is using her against him. Jack will do everything to keep his sister and his enemy separated.

2. Schuyler “Sky” Wesley Tate
Sky Tate is the heartthrob and quarterback of New Tech High. Every girl in at this school has a crush on this student, unfortunately for the girls, he’s dating New Tech High’s most popular girl and Head cheerleader Sydney Drew. He is very loved by everyone, except for one person. Jack Landors, captain of the karate team and his sworn enemy. On the other hand, Jack’s adoptive sister Z Delgado, he seems to get along with her quiet well. The 2 of them seem to have a growing friendship, that perhaps might change in something more.

3. Elizabeth “Z” Danielle Delgado
Z Delgado is one of the smartest girls on New Tech High. She’s very dedicated on her schoolwork and never has time for some fun. Z had a terrible childhood anyone could imagine. Her father left her before she was born and was raised by her mother. When Z was 5 years old, her mother was involved in a car accident. Her mother didn’t make it out alive. She was adopted by the Landors family. Unlike her brother Jack, Z isn’t very social and is very into herself. That is about to change when Sky comes into her life.

4. Sydney “Syd” Ashley Drew
Rich and popular, Sydney Drew has it all. She leads the perfect life. She is Head cheerleader of New Tech High, is dating New Tech High’s quarterback and most wanted guy Sky Tate and is the most wanted girl at school. Well, her life seems almost perfect. That is when her boyfriend’s enemy Jack Landors messes up her day. But her life outside school doesn’t look so very perfect. Her parents are divorced, her mother lives in Paris and Syd lives with her father in New Tech City. Her father is always on business, so she is very often alone in her huge villa.

5. Brighton “Bridge” William Carson
Bridge Carson is the strangest of the 8 friends. He says things that usually confuse his friends, sometimes himself. But out of that Bridge is very kind toe everyone. He is a very good friend to Sky, Z and Sam. Bridge is a technological freak. He loves to work on computers. He’s even the president of the New Tech High’s Computer club. He is very smart and gets good grades, but not as high as Kat Manx. He has a crush on her since he was little, but is afraid to admit his feelings towards her.

6. Katherine “Kat” Dana Manx
Kat Manx is the bookworm of New Tech High. Together with good friend, Z Delgado they lead the number 1 spot of receiving the highest grades in New Tech High. Besides school, Kat has a not so perfect childhood. Her parents abandoned her when she was little and was raised the Randal’s family. Kat and Mora Randal have a very complicated sister-sister relationship, but they can always confide in each other when the going gets though. Kat is someone who makes quickly friends with everyone. Bridge Carson is the one she really gets close with.

7. Morgana “Mora” Elisa Randal
Mora Randal is a troubled girl and never follows the rules. She is the troublemaker of New Tech High. She always looks for quarrels with everyone. Most students rather avoid her, except her adoptive sister Kat Manx and classmate Sam Reynolds. She and Sam have their annoyed way to get along with each other, a sort of hate-trust relationship. Mora lives with her father, her mother took off when she was little. Besides her strong and sometimes aggressive behave, Mora is very sensitive.

8. Samuel “Sam” Waldo Reynolds
Sam Reynolds is the athletic star of New Tech High. He especially loves wheel running and motor crossing. Sam is much loved at school. He gets good grades, he got good friends and a goal. To become like his dad was when he was alive. And that’s a motor cross star. Sam lives with Bridge when his mother is in the army. He has a very complicated relationship with Mora. His insults are sometimes very mean, but most of the times very flattering. Maybe there’s more behind this hatred between the 2 of them.

Inseparable Theme "Everywhere" by Michelle Branch.

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone

You're in everyone I see
So tell me
Do you see me?

Chapter 1: THE NEW SEMESTER

New Tech City, 2025. Another morning starts to break through. All the kids of New Tech High are about to wake up and get ready for school. At the Landor’s residence, Jack Landors is still in his bed yawning and doesn’t listen to his mother’s wake up call. His adopted sister Z Delgado watches inside her brother’s room and sneaks in. She stood in front of his bed with her hands on her hips. She was grinning when she heard her brother’s snoring and still asleep.

Z: Yo Jack, wake up!

Jack shocked immediately after Z’s wake up call. His sister laughed when Jack immediately sit up straight in his bed.

Jack: Whoa, what was that?

Z: That was your call for “Welcome back to school.”

Jack: Oh, no. Summer can’t be over by now.

Z: I’m afraid so Jack. Now, get up.

Jack: Why are you so happy? It’s school.

Z: Yeah, but it is our last semester, which means we’re seniors and get to graduate this year.

Jack: Good point. We are seniors now, aren’t we?

Z: Plus we get to go to college next year and finally step into that big world of studying all night long 24/7.

Jack: Oke, now you ruining my good mood.

Z: Just get dressed, will ya?

Jack: Fine.

He pushes Z out of his room.

Z: Hey, what are you doing?

Jack: I’m kicking you out of my room. I’m going to take a shower and change and I know you would love to see me naked, but I’m a very private person.
Z: Oh, please, I just ate and I would like to keep my breakfast inside. Besides, I can’t stand to see you with your clothes on, little less on seeing you without your clothes.

Jack: Goodbye Z.

Jack closed his door in front of Z. Z just smiled and went downstairs. This morning at New Tech High, students were arriving at the school. So does Kat Manx and Mora Randal.

Kat: Isn’t it great to be back at school again?

Mora: Oh yeah, the whining of the teachers, the childish behave of our classmates and the lovely cafeteria food. Look, I’m dancing in the air of joy right now.

Kat smiles and knows that her roommate isn’t quiet happy about the return at New Tech High.

Kat: Come on Mora. This is our last year in here and we should enjoy this last year as seniors.

Mora: The only day that will make me happy this semester is the day we graduate. We finally receive our diplomas and kiss the school and all of our loser classmates goodbye.

Kat: Mora, name one person you can’t get along with at all.

Sam: Goodmorning ladies.

Mora: Speaking about the devil himself.

2 other students arrived and greeted the young ladies. It was Bridge Carson and roommate Sam Reynolds.

Bridge: Hey girls.

Kat: Hey Bridge, hey Sam. How was your summer?

Bridge: It was great. We went skiing in Aspen.

Kat: Skiing? No dangerous stunts I hope.

Bridge: Well, I didn’t, but Sam was too stubborn to listen.

Kat: What happened?

Sam: I skied in the closed area. The most dangerous one.

Bridge: He almost skied off a cliff, but luckily he managed to grab a tree. Well, his luck was about to run out, coz the tree almost broke.

Sam: Relax. First Aid Choppers saved me on time from falling into that huge cliff.

Mora: Oh dam those choppers.

Kat: Come on Mora, you don’t mean that.

Sam: Ofcourse she doesn’t. I was the one who ruined her school years for 3 years, someone has to ruin her last semester. Or else I can’t graduate.

Mora: Trust me, there are more people who are making my life miserable.

Sam: And how would you know that? I haven’t put up a vacancy yet.

Bridge: Would you guys stop arguing?

Kat: Bridge is right. The 2 of you never seem to get along, you never agree on something and you always have to insult each other. Come on guys, this is our last semester, can’t you guys just get along well for one year?

Mora and Sam looked at each other and looked at Kat.

Mora & Sam: No.

Mora and Sam walked inside the school building. Kat sighs.

Bridge: Well, at least they agree on something.

Bridge and Kat walked followed their friends inside the building. Inside the school hall, students were talking and laughing. 2 other students stood at their locker, Sky Tate and Sydney Drew. Sky is picking some books from his locker and Sydney is watching herself in the mirror of her locker.

Syd: Maybe I shouldn’t have used too much blush. What do you think?

Sky: What?

Syd: Sky, you are not paying attention.

Sky: Sorry, what were you saying?

Syd: Never mind. What is it this time? Your dad again?

Sky: As usual. He heard from the coach of the Football camp, I was send to, that I wasn’t devoted enough at the game.

Syd: I’m sorry Sky.

Sky: It’s oke. It’s never good enough for him. No matter how much effort I put myself in this game, it’s never good enough.

Syd: But you should know that you by getting a football scholarship, that’s the easiest way for you to get into college.

Sky: Well, if I want to continue my future on football. But what if I don’t?

Syd started to laugh when Sky said that.

Syd: Oh Sky, you are funny.

She kissed him.

Syd: Come on, class is about to start.

Sky sighs and followed Syd to their first class. In class, there were already a few students sitting on their seats, including Jack, Z, Bridge, Kat, Mora and Sam.

Jack: All hail the king and queen of New Tech High!

Z: Jack, shut up.

Jack: Hey, I was just greeting our friends. What’s wrong with that?

Sky: We are not friends Landors.

Jack: We’re not? Oh yeah, you’re right. Guess the football didn’t hit your head this summer. That’s too bad.

Sky walked over to Jack and wanted to punch him, but Syd stopped him and Z stopped Jack from starting the fight.

Z: Jack, sit down.

Syd: Sky, leave him. He’s not worth it.

All the students were waiting in excitement if a fight is going to be start. At that moment, the teacher, Mr. Cruger enters the classroom.

Mr. Cruger: Goodmorning class. Mr. Landors, Mr. Tate, a fight before the semester begins. Go ahead, don’t disappoint me in sending the both of you to the principal’s office.

Z: Jack, let it go.

Jack: I’m afraid to disappoint you Mr. Cruger, but not this time.

Mr. Cruger: Then I suggest you take your seat. Both of you.

Jack took his seat again and Sky went to take his seat next to Syd. Mr. Cruger closed the classroom door.

Mr. Cruger: As all of you probably know, this is your last year at New Tech High.

Everyone starts to cheer.

Mr. Cruger: And I see that many of you can’t wait to leave New Tech High.

Jack: Goes double for me, Mr. C!

Mr. Cruger: And I’m not surprised to hear that Mr. Landors. And I’m sure all the teachers at New Tech High will think the same thing about you as well.

The class laughed.

Mr. Cruger: Anyway, I have a new assignment for you all. You will work in pairs and I have made a list of questions that you will have to ask each other. Also, you are assigned to make a report from your investigation of your partner’s history and background. I want the reports on the end of the week on my desk. I have made a list of subjects that has to appear in the report.

Jack: That sounds pretty easy. You can give me that A right now, Mr. C.

Mr. Cruger: Well, Mr. Landors, I even made it more fun for you and your other classmates. Because this is your last semester, I volunteered to make the pairs this time.

Jack: So, who will I get? Z, Bridge, Kat?

Mr. Cruger: Oh, you’ll be surprised who I paired you with. Anyway, these are the pairs I made. Allen and Walker, Brown and Richards, Burton and Franklin, Carson and Manx, Copeland and Summerfield, Daniels and Taylor, Delgado and Tate, Hades and Sampson, Randal and Reynolds, and for you Mr. Landors, I have save the best for last and you’re going to love it. You will be paired up with Miss Drew.

Jack and Syd couldn’t believe what they just heard. They couldn’t stand each other and now they had to work together. Jack and Syd weren’t the only pairs, who were quiet unhappy with Mr. Cruger’s choice of pairing. Sky and Z, but also Mora and Sam weren’t all too happy. Will this assignment succeed in Mr. Cruger’s choice of pairing?

Chapter 2: UNWANTED PARTNERSHIPS

At New Tech High, Jack, Syd, Sky, Z, Mora and Sam were all in shock when they heard the pair up Mr. Cruger has made for his assignment.

Syd: Excuse me, I might didn’t hear that quiet well, but I thought you said I had to work together with Mr. Landors.

Mr. Cruger: You did hear it well, Miss Drew.

Syd: This is unacceptable.

Jack: You gotta be kidding me. I have to work with Miss Pom-poms over there?

Mr. Cruger: That is correct.

Syd: This is a nightmare.

Jack: Sir, you can’t me expect me to work with her. Can’t you swap me with someone else? Can’t I work with my sister for example?

Mr. Cruger: Your sister already has a partner.

Jack: Who? Slime bucket over there?

Jack pointed to Sky, who was getting angry for calling names.

Sky: Who you’re calling slime bucket, Mr. “I am so amazing”?

Jack: You know, very funny to hear that from you mouth, coz I thought that was one of your lines.

Z: Mr. Cruger, isn’t there any way to swap partners?

Mr. Cruger: You will work with Mr. Tate and Mr. Landors will work together with Miss Drew.

Jack: Oh come on sir, you can’t let my sister work together with that jackass.

Sky: Oh, like I’m happy my girlfriend is working together with a rat like you.

Before Mr. Cruger could say something, he was disturbed by another student.

Mora: Uhm, sir, I’m sorry to disturb this little debate, but my paired up partner and I have a small problem about our pair up.

Mr. Cruger: And what might that problem be?

Mora: Him! / Sam: Her!

Mr. Cruger: It’s just one assignment and it’s just for one week.

Mora: Yeah, but to work a whole week, 7 days, 168 hours, 10080 minutes and 604800 seconds with him by my side sounds very uncomfortable and very unpleasant to me.

Sam: Mr. Cruger, if you let me work with her you might as well flunk me now.

Mr. Cruger: That can be arranged.

Sam: What? No, no, no, I was just kidding. Sir, I meant that it might be wiser to select another student for me to work with.

Jack: Hey, what about us?

Jack, Sky, Z, Syd, Mora and Sam were arguing about their pair up and Mr. Cruger had heard enough.

Mr. Cruger: Silence! I can see that some of you are not happy with the partner I chose you to work with. This is a challenge to get to know each other before you are going to college. There won’t be any changes, you have to work with the student I paired you up with. You work together and I want to see your question list, all of your investigations and your report on my desk by Friday. If not, I’ll make sure that you won’t be able to graduate this year. End of discussion.

Jack, Sky, Z, Syd, Mora and Sam sighed and weren’t happy with their partners. Luckily Bridge and Kat are and smiled at each other. Time passed by very fast and before the students knew it was lunchtime. Kat and Bridge are sitting in the cafeteria. They are having their lunch and were discussing about their assignment.

Kat: You know, I’m actually glad that Mr. Cruger teamed me up with you. Not that I would mind to work with someone else, but I’m glad it’s you.

Bridge: Really?

Kat: Yeah, I mean if I got paired up with Jack for example, I probably had to do all the work. Or if I had to work with Mora, the report probably couldn’t have been done by Friday. She’s not the easiest one to get a story from.

Bridge smiled and blushed a little. He wanted to say that he was glad to work with her as well, but the words got stuck in his throat while he looked at the beauty that was glowing of Kat.

Bridge: I guess.

At that moment, Sam and Z joined their friends at their table.

Sam: Hey, what’s up?

Bridge: Hey, where’s Mora?

Sam: Don’t know. Is that my concern?

Kat: Uhm...yeah, since she is your partner on the assignment Mr. Cruger gave this morning.

Z: She’s in Mr. Cruger’s office. She still tries to convince him to change partners.

Bridge: And?

Z: It’s Mr. Cruger guys. He’s not easily to convince.

Bridge: Well, actually he never is.

Jack joins his friends and took a seat next to his sister.

Jack: Hey guys.

Bridge: Hey Jack.

Jack: So, what’s up?

Sam: We were discussing about Mr. Cruger’s assignment and the pairs he set up. You know, I do hope Mora can convince Cruger to swap partners. I’m not looking forward to sit face to face with her for hours.

Jack: Well, I bet all of my money that you still be Mora’s partner by the end of school.

Z: You know what Jack, you’d be rich by then. If you weren’t so broke.

Bridge & Sam: Ooh!

Kat: Jack, I can’t believe you almost started a fight with Sky again. I mean you had a chance to get expelled from school. You know that the principal doesn’t like you at all.

Jack: Hey, the guy started.

Z: Actually, you started.

Jack: What?

Z: Why you always have to irritate him? Can’t you just ignore him?

Jack: Why are you taking his side?

Z: I’m not taking sides. It’s just you always pick a fight with him.

Jack: Well, the guy is just jealous on me.

Z: On what? The girls? I’m sure he already has his hands full on the Head cheerleader.

Kat: Speaking about cheerleaders, shouldn’t you start with your assignment with Syd?

Jack: Yeah, later, after school.

Kat: Why not right now?

Jack: Coz right now she’s hanging out with that football boyfriend baboon.

Z stood up and grabbed her bag.

Jack: Where are you going?

Z: I’m going to that football baboon, who happens to be my partner, to make my appointment for the assignment.

Jack: You want me to come with you?

Z: No thank you.

Jack: Are you sure? I mean if he bothers you, just say it.

Z: Trust me Jack, I can handle that Sky like a pretzel.

Bridge & Sam: Ooh!

Z left. While the boys are watching Z leaving, Kat is looking at the question list.

Kat: How would you describe your partner in 3 words?

Jack: That’s easy. Spoilt, girlie and selfish.

Sam: Hmm…sounds like Mora, except on the girlie part. And the spoilt part.

Kat: You find Mora selfish?

Sam: Well, not really selfish, selfish, but selfish…you know selfish.

Bridge, Jack and Kat looked at each other with confused eyes.

Sam: Oke, she’s not selfish. I have to think about that.

Kat smiled and continued her assignment. Meanwhile, Z is looking for Sky. She found him in the hallway. He’s kissing Syd.

Z: Excuse me.

Sky and Syd broke up their kiss when Z interrupted. Syd looked at Z with anger eyes.

Syd: What do you want?

Z: My partner.

Syd: Go find your own.

Z: I meant my project partner. And I think you’re holding him right now. I just want to know if you wanna do the assignment after school.

Sky: Sure, sounds cool to me.

Z: Oke, I’ll see you after school.

Sky: Cool.

Syd: Now, if you don’t mind, we are kinda busy right now.

Z: Oh, no go ahead. Just don’t forget to breathe once in a while. You do need some oxygen when you are swapping each other’s bacterial germs.

Z gave a fake smile, turned around, rolled with her eyes and walked away.

Syd: I can’t believe Cruger did this to us. I have to work with loser Landors and you with that white trash loser.

Sky: Look, it’s just for a week and then it will be all over.

Syd: I hope so.

Sky: Trust me. Look, I need to go now. I got class right now.

Syd: Well, do I see you tonight.

Sky: Oh, uhm…I can’t.

Syd: why not?

Sky: My dad and his new girlfriend is coming to dinner.

Syd: Oh.

Sky: But I’ll call you tonight.

Syd: Oke.

Sky kissed Syd.

Sky: Oke, bye.

Sky left Syd in the hallway and rushed to his next class.

I know it's not fair to review without reading, but just glancing through this, it seems this is the usual fanficition.net, plot-deprived, "Tiger Beat" romance fare. Anyone agree?

Chapter 3: UNCOMFORTABLE COMPLICATIONS

Time went fast at New Tech High that school’s over. Well, for some students it was almost over. Now they have to face the hardest part. Working on their assignment with the partner they rather avoid. Mora and Sam are sitting on a bench outside the building working on their project.

Sam: What did you answer on question number 9?

Mora: That’s none of your business.

Sam imitates Mora.

Sam: “That’s none of your business.”

Mora rolled with her eyes and reads the question, while she talks in her mind.

Mora: Your words about your partner when you look at him.

Mora looked at Sam and Sam gave her an awful smile.

Mora: Ugh! My worst nightmare.

Sam: So, what question are you?

Mora: Why you wanna know?

Sam: It’s just a question.

Mora sighs.

Mora: Question number 11.

Sam: 11? Dam, you are slow.

Mora: Do you mind? I’m trying to concentrate here.

Sam: Well, excuse me Professor Einstein.

Mora: Which music artist would you compare your partner with? What kind of question is this?

Sam: Blame it all on Mr. Cruger.

Mora: What did you answer?

Mora grabbed the question list of Sam’s hands.

Sam: Hey, that’s mine!

Mora reads the answers Sam gave and she looked with shocking eyes.

Mora: Marilyn Manson?! That guy is disgusting, aggressive, violence.

Sam: Well, didn’t I do a great job on that one?

Mora: What kind of person is your partner? Rude, doesn’t care about other people, is famous in detention class. This is so not true.

Sam: Oh yeah? Well, let’s see your answers about me.

Sam took the answers from Mora and reads it.

Sam: Charlie Chaplin?! You compare me with a comedian? Why? Because I’m funny?

Mora: No, because you are a joke.

Sam: Excuse me, I do not snore.

Mora: Oh yes, you do. Summer camp 2020. We were inside the bus. The chauffeur thought there was something wrong with the engine, but realized that the sound was actually coming from your mouth.

Sam: These answers are ridiculous.

Mora: And yours aren’t? What about this one? My favorite movie: The Titanic?

Sam: You cried at the end.

Mora: I did not. I’m not a woozy like you.

Sam: I did not cry during that movie.

Mora: This is not working.

Mora is packing up her stuff.

Sam: Hey, where are you going?

Mora: Home. I had enough of this. Honestly, I do not care if I won’t graduate this year just as long you stay away from me.

Sam: Wait, if you are quitting, then I will fail as well.

Mora: Like I care.

Sam: Oh come on Mora, we can talk about this.

Mora: I think we’ve talked enough for now.

Mora left and Sam sighed. What he suppose to do now. He has no partner, which means he will fail for this project and will not be able to graduate with his fellow classmates. Meanwhile, another pair is working on their project and the atmosphere between these 2 looks a little better than with Sam and Mora. Bridge and Kat are in New Tech Park doing their assignment. Bridge couldn’t keep his eyes of Kat. Although he’s happy that Kat is his partner, at some part it feels to Bridge very uncomfortable.

Kat: Hmm, what is your favorite movie?

Bridge: That is easy. I like the superman movies. I happen to be a huge Superman fan and I like all of the movies. I love comic books. But I also enjoyed watching Batman and the sequels. But Spiderman 1 and 2 were very good as well. I also loved Daredevil, I mean the girl was pretty good. However, X-Men 1 and 2 were good as well.

Kat: Maybe I just write down too much to name.

Bridge: That is not a bad idea. How about this question? What is the most desirable your partner wants?

Kat: The most desirable I want?

Bridge: Yeah.

Kat suddenly stood up and sat on the table in front of Bridge. She touched his face.

Kat: I want you. You’re all I ever wanted.

Bridge: What?

Kat: Bridge, Bridge, Bridge, Bridge, Bridge, Bridge.

Bridge smiled and suddenly he was snapped out of his daydream when Kat called his name, but not like in his dream.

Kat: Bridge! Are you oke? You seemed like you got a little lost in your mind for a minute.

Bridge saw that Kat was just sitting across him.

Bridge: I’m alright. I just got a little distracted.

Kat: Oke, if you say so. Let’s continue our project.

Bridge: Good idea.

Kat: So, what is your dream wish?

Bridge: That’s easy. Accepted by the University of Princeton. What about yours?

Kat: Your lips on mine.

Kat gave an air kiss to Bridge, winked at him and she gave him a sex smile. Bridge was sweating and covers his eyes.

Bridge: Kat, no, we can’t do this. Not in this park.

Bridge uncovered his eyes and realized it was a daydream again.

Kat: Can’t do what? Bridge, are you oke? It seemed like you saw a ghost or something.

Bridge: I need to go.

Bridge is packing up his stuff.

Kat: But we’re not done yet.

Bridge: I’m really sorry, but I really need to go home.

Kat: Well, we can finish it at your house.

Bridge: NO! I mean, we can’t. I have so much to do at home.

Kat: Oke, we’ll continue it tomorrow.

Bridge: Great. Perfect.

Kat: Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you? I mean you look kinda sweaty.

Kat wanted to touch his forehead, but Bridge stepped back.

Bridge: No, don’t be silly. I’m alright.

Bridge took a few steps back and bummed up to some trashcans, but stood up quickly.

Kat: Bridge.

Bridge: I’m alright. I’m still alive. No need to worry. Gotta go now. Bye

Bridge took off as quick as he could. Kat was very confused by Bridge’s strange behave and she packed her stuff and went home. Meanwhile, Jack and Syd planned to work together at Syd’s house. Jack arrived at the entrance and knocked on the door. He knocked on the door. A butler opened the door.

Butler: May I help you?

Jack: I’m Jack. I’m here to see Syd Drew.

Butler: Come in.

The butler closed the door after Jack enters the house. Jack looked around in the big hall entrance. He was stunned to see that there was so much space. He saw a painting of Syd when she was little with her mother hanging in the hall.

Butler: If you wait here I will get Miss Drew for you.

Jack: Thanks.

The butler left. Jack walked to a table that was filled with pictures. There were pictures of Syd, Syd’s father and Syd’s stepmother. But mostly there were pictures with Syd and her mother.

Syd: So, you finally showed up. You’re late.

Jack turned around and saw Syd was coming down from the big stairs.

Jack: Who cares? I’m here now. Can we please get over with this project?

Syd rolled with her eyes.

Syd: Follow me.

Jack followed Syd further into the house. The house was bigger than he thought. But what Jack also realizes is that the house was very quiet. Too quiet. It’s like Syd is living here alone. Meanwhile, Sky and Z are working on their project in The Lair, a coffeehouse.

Sky: Your favorite movie?

Z: Casablanca.

Sky: Casablanca? Isn’t that an old movie?

Z: So? Got a problem with that?

Sky: Hey, it’s your movie.

Z rolled with her eyes.

Z: Favorite song?

Sky: Freak you out by Kira Ford.

Z: Your favorite song, not Syd’s.

Sky: It is my favorite song.

Z laughed for a second.

Sky: What’s so funny?

Z: Nothing.

Sky: Your role model?

Z: I don’t know. I guess Jack’s parents.

Sky laughed.

Sky: That’s a good one.

Z: What’s so funny about that?

Sky: Oh, nothing. I mean things turned out pretty well for you, but I can’t say the same thing about Jack.

Z: Oh, and you think his parents got something to do with it?

Sky: Well, yeah, they are the ones who raised him.

Z: Well, maybe because some jerky classmates don’t give him a break.

Sky: Can we drop this and just continue on our project?

Z: Fine. Greatest hero?

Sky: Jennifer Scotts.

Z: Who is that? An ex-girlfriend of yours?

Sky: She is not my ex-girlfriend.

Z: Oke, relax. I just thought you would name your big daddy as your hero.

Sky: Oke, next question. Aha, this is a good one. Your first date?

Z: No comment.

Sky: What?

Z: I said no comment.

Sky: Why? You never dated before or something?

Z: That’s none of your business.

Sky: Excuse me. The question is named on the list.

Z: I don’t wanna talk about it.

Sky: Why? Because it was lousy?

Z: I’m not going to discuss this with you.

Sky: Why not? I mean it’s not that bad if you had a lousy date. I mean I used to have lousy dates.

Z: You don’t get it.

Sky: Get what?

Z: Nothing, let’s just get to the next question.

Sky: No, we are not done yet. Look, it’s oke if your first date didn’t go well or never dated before. Happens all the time.

Z: I can’t believe this. You know what, Jack was right about you. You are a complete selfish jerk.

Sky: What?! What did I do?

Z: I knew it. I should have listened to Jack.

Z started to pack up her things.

Sky: Where are you going?

Z: Home.

Sky: What? Z, come on, we can talk about this. I didn’t mean to…

Z didn’t want to hear the end of sentence and walked away.

Sky: Z!

Z was gone and left Sky confused alone in the coffee shop. Sky finds it very strange that Z left without any reason. He starts to wonder what Z is hiding from him that makes her so upset.

I know it's not fair to review without reading, but just glancing through this, it seems this is the usual fanficition.net, plot-deprived, "Tiger Beat" romance fare. Anyone agree?

I guess it could be. Looks like a soap to me. No offense to you step2stepgirl.

Chapter 4: EMOTIONS REVEALED

It was evening and the sun was about to go down in New Tech City. At Mora’s house, Mora’s is reading a brochure on her bed. Kat knocked on the door.

Mora: Yeah?

Kat enters the room.

Kat: Are you busy?

Mora: Nah, just checking some things.

Kat took a seat next to Mora and saw that the brochure was about Military Academy.

Kat: The army? You’re not going to college after your graduation?

Mora: Sooner than you think.

Kat: What do you mean?

Mora: Let me put it this way, the only way to get into college is when you graduate and receive a Highschool diploma. And not when you’re a Highschool dropout.

Kat: Highschool dropout? What are you talking about?

Mora: I’m not gonna graduate this year, coz I flunked on Cruger’s project.

Kat: He already flunked you? That’s not fair, you had time until the end of the week.

Mora: Kat, Cruger didn’t flunk me. I did.

Kat: I’m confused now?

Mora: Sam and I are no longer partners.

Kat: What happened?

Mora: We had a fight. As usual.

Kat: Mora, if you quite, than you will flunk, but so will Sam.

Mora: I don’t know if I gotta feel sorry or really be happy.

Kat: Mora, it’s not fair towards Sam and you know that. Graduating this year means a lot to him.

Mora: I know, it’s just he’s so stubborn.

Kat: You and Sam always argue everyday since the day you both met each other, but eventually you always seem to sort out your fights. Look, I know you. Whatever the people are saying at school about you, I know you’re a good girl and I know that deep inside of you, you don’t want to let Sam flunk this project. And I think you don’t want to flunk either.

Mora: I guess you’re right Kat. Thanks.

Kat: Anytime.

Mora: But I know you haven’t come here to talk about me and Sam. So, care to tell me what’s on your mind right now?

Kat: It’s Bridge.

Mora: What about him?

Kat: Have you noticed something different about Bridge lately?

Mora: No, why?

Kat: He’s acting very weird lately.

Mora: Kat, Bridge would be weird if he didn’t act weird.

Kat: But this time it was different. We worked on our assignment and suddenly he said he needed to go home.

Mora: So? Maybe he had an emergency or something.

Kat: No, he was really weird. You should have seen him. It was like something’s bothering.

Mora: Kat, trust me. There’s nothing going on with Bridge. He probably had one of his Bridge moments. Very natural. Well, to him.

At Syd’s villa, Jack and Syd are still doing their project. They read each other’s answers and were shocked what the answers are.

Syd: What? I’m not addicted to beauty?

Jack: Yes, you are?

Syd: Well, excuse me if I want to look good.

Jack: If you go to the bathroom, you always stay in there for an hour.

Syd: What I’m doing in the bathroom is none of your business.

Jack: My favorite school subject? Lunch break? That is a lie.

Syd: No, it’s not.

Jack: I do pay attention at school.

Syd: Oh really? Tell me Jack, which of all the classes we have, you’ve never falling in sleep before?

Jack wanted to say something, but the words couldn’t leave his mouth.

Jack: Can we go on with the questions?

Syd: Spoilt? I’m not spoilt. You think because I have rich parents, I’m spoilt?

Jack: Oh no? Who usually says…?

Jack imitated Syd.

Jack: “Daddy, I need 300 hundred dollars.”

Syd: You are jealous.

Jack: What? On you?

Syd: Yeah.

Jack: This is ridiculous.

Syd: Because I’m rich, you’re poor, I’m beautiful, you’re hideous, I’ve got everything, you’ve got nothing.

Jack: You know, I had quite enough of this. You and I might don’t like each other, but there’s no reason to insult me. I’m out of here.

Jack grabbed his jacket and left. Syd sighed. What a terrible night. At New Tech Cemetery, Sky is standing at his mother’s grave. He put some flowers on her grave.

Sky: I love you mom.

He stood up and wanted to leave. Suddenly he heard a sound. He turned around.

Sky: Who’s there? Show yourself.

Z appeared into the moonlight. Sky was surprised to see her with flowers in her hands.

Sky: Z? Is that you?

Z: Sky? What are you doing here?

Sky: I was about to ask you the same thing.

Z: I asked you first.

Sky showed her and Z saw the gravestone of Sky’s mother.

Z: Jennifer Scotts-Tate. Wait a minute, Jennifer Scotts was your mother?

Sky: She was my hero.

Z: How did she…you know.

Sky: Died? She was ill for some time. When I was born, they discovered she had Leukemia. The doctors gave her 1 year. She fought for 3 years.

Z: Sky, I’m sorry.

Sky: It happened a long time ago.

Z: How come you’re here all alone? I mean, I thought you would bring at least Syd with you.

Sky: Syd doesn’t know that I’m visiting my mom almost every night. It’s not that I don’t enjoy her company, but at some moments I just wanted to be alone.

Z: I know the feeling.

Sky: So, you have heard my reason. What’s yours?

Z: I…I just needed some fresh air.

Sky: In a graveyard? I don’t believe you.

Z: I knew you wouldn’t.

Sky: Why are you here Z?

Z walked a little closer to Sky and they stood face to face with each other.

Z: Can you keep a secret?

Sky: Yeah.

Z: Follow me.

Sky followed Z to another gravestone of Z’s mother.

Z: Sky, I want you to meet my mother, Lauren Delgado. Mom, this is Sky Tate. Say hi.

Sky looked a little confused, but he looked at the grave and waved. Z smiled and put some flowers on the grave.

Sky: Hi.

Z: Yeah, he is kinda shy.

Sky: Are you talking to her?

Z: I come here every night to talk with my mom. Oke, you must think I’m pretty weird now. Talking with death people.

Sky: I don’t think you’re weird Z.

Z: You are the first person then.

Z looked at the grave.

Z: What? No, I’m not going to say that to him.

Sky: What did she say?

Z looked at Sky, smiles and blushed a little.

Z: My mom said that you should smile some more. She thinks you look very handsome when you smile. And she thinks your mother will find that too.

Sky smiled and blushed a little.

Sky: So, how did she…you know.

Z: She was involved in a car accident years ago.

Sky: How old were you when she…

Z: I was 5.

Sky: I’m sorry.

Z: I never forget that day. When I was with Jack’s mom and she assured me that my mom was going to be alright and that she will come back. When the cops arrived, she didn’t know how to tell me the news, but I never forget the look on her face. I knew then that my mother would never come home again.

Sky: How come you can deal your mother’s death so much easier than me?

Z: Because of this.

Z showed her golden Z necklace.

Z: My mother gave me this when I was born and since then I have never took it off. Everytime when I look at it, it will always remind me of my mother.

Sky: It’s beautiful. So, how about your dad?

Z: I have never met my dad. When I was little I asked my mother everyday when my dad was coming home and she told me that he will come home soon. She has told me the same story for 5 years and I realized he wouldn’t come home at all.

Sky: Wow. I don’t think I’m as strong as you are. I mean I don’t have my mom anymore, but I still have my dad. You have no parents at all. I mean except for the Landors. Haven’t you ever thought about looking for your dad?

Z: You know, after my mother died, I placed this huge condolence advertisement in the paper that has been read by everyone in the whole country and I hoped my father would appear at the funeral. He didn’t and from that moment, I realized …I was all alone.

Sky: You can’t do this to yourself Z.

Z: Do what?

Sky: Shutting everyone out.

Z: I’m not.

Sky: Then why did you freak out this afternoon at The Lair? Look, if it was because of the things I said than I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.

Z: It wasn’t your fault Sky.

Sky: Then what’s wrong? You can tell me.

Z sighed and looked at the grave.

Z: I think you’re right mom.

Sky: What did she say?

Z: Follow me Sky. There’s someone else I’d like you to meet.

Sky followed Z another gravestone.

Sky: Where are we going?

Z: We’re here. Sky, I want you to meet Derrick Connell. Derrick, this is Sky Tate, he’s a classmate of mine.

Sky: Who’s Derrick?

Z: Derrick…he is…I mean he was my first date.

Sky: 2007 until 2020? He was only 13.

Z: Derrick had a heart disease ever since he was born. When he was 13 his chance of surviving became smaller, so he decided to get along with the operation. At that moment, I was in Mr. Ryan’s Math class. Making a test.

Sky: Wait a second, that was the day when you passed out in class, wasn’t it?

Z nodded.

Z: I felt like I lost a part of me. It hurt for a moment, and then it was gone. When I came home I saw Jack’s mother in tears. Derrick didn’t survive the operation.

Sky: Z, I…I don’t know what to say. I’m sorry.

Z: Derrick used to live next door. He was the first boy I hated, the first boy I hit, the first boy I dated, the first boy I kissed, and the first boy I loved. After my mother passed away, he gave me hope in life again and I always thought we’d be together forever. Sometimes I dream that he’s still there, holding me in his arms and tells me that everything will be alright. And for a minute I’m happy. Until I wake up, I realize that he’s gone and I’m still alone.

Sky saw that Z had tears in her eyes.

Sky: What are you saying Derrick? You want me to tell her that? Oke, I will. Derrick says that you’re not alone and he’s looking at you, from up there and he’s proud on you that from all the bad things that happened to you, you have become an incredible girl who deserves more respect than anyone else.

Z: He really said that?

Sky: Wait, what was that again? Oke, I’ll tell her. He also says he has no doubts that Princeton will pick you for your college year.

Z smiled and started to blush.

Z: You know, I think Derrick likes you.

Sky: How can you tell?

Z: Because he just told me.

They both smiled at each other. At Bridge’s residence, Sam is inside the livingroom and is watching T.V. Bridge is walking around the room. Sam noticed Bridge’s walks and it started to annoy him.

Sam: Would you stop that? I’m getting dizzy.

Bridge: Sorry. Sam, have you had any trouble with a girl before?

Sam: You’re asking me? After what happened today, you should better ask Mora.

Bridge: Mora? Wait a second. Please don’t tell me you had a fight with her again.

Sam: She’s so stubborn.

Bridge: You both are stubborn. You can’t have a fight with her. She’s your project partner.

Sam: Was my project partner. She quite.

Bridge: What? But that means you won’t graduate this year.

Sam: Like I didn’t know that.

Bridge: You need to talk to her.

Sam: Forget it. She won’t listen.

Bridge: You have to try. Talking is the only solution. It’s the answer on this problem. The both of you always talked with each other when it got tough. Think if Russia and the US didn’t talk, there would still be a wall standing through whole Germany. And if Europe and the US never talked, the 2nd world war would have never ended. And what if England and the US never talked, we never had Independence Day. And what about if Bert and Ernie from Sesamestreet never talked, there would have never been Sesamestreet. And what if…

Sam: Oke, oke, I’ll talk to her tomorrow. Just stop it oke.

Bridge: Good.

Sam: Now, what about you?

Bridge: Me?

Sam: Yeah, I saw how nervous you were a few minutes ago. Something is bothering you.

Bridge: Can you keep a secret?

Sam: Sure.

Bridge: I think I have a crush on Kat.

Sam: Kat? Kat Manx? Our Kat?

Bridge nodded and Sam started to laugh.

Bridge: What’s so funny?

Sam: Awh, man. Finally you admit it. Bridge Carson has spread out the love.

Bridge: What are you talking about? You knew this?

Sam: Ofcourse. We kinda got that idea. You always acted weird when she was around. Not that you’re never weird, but I meant weird than usual.

Bridge: Excuse me, we? Who is we? Who else knows it?

Sam: Me and Mora. I’m not sure about the others, but I have no doubts that they do have any suspicious about it.

Bridge: What I have to do now?

Sam: Tell her.

Bridge: I can’t tell her.

Sam: You want me to do it for you?

Bridge: Don’t even think about it.

Sam: Hey, just trying to help here.

Bridge: I can do this on my own.

Bridge grabbed his jacket and starts to walk away.

Sam: Hey, where are you going?

Bridge: I need to clear my head and get all the Kats out of my mind.

Bridge left in a hurry.

Sam: Man, I’m glad that I’m not in love.

Sam smiled and continued watching T.V. Meanwhile, Sky walked Z home and they stood in the garden.

Z: Thanks for walking me home.

Sky: Can’t let you walk here on your own. Who knows what will happen on the streets at this point of time.

Z: You know, this is kinda weird.

Sky: What is weird?

Z: Us. I mean this morning we refused to be project partners and rather avoid each other and now we’re standing here talking to each other.

Sky: I know. It does sound kinda weird. But I think we should do it again.

Z: Yeah, I think we should.

Sky: So, I think finishing that project won’t be a problem at all.

Z: I guess not. I…I had a great time.

Sky: Me too. Just don’t tell your brother, we both know how he thinks about me.

Z: You shouldn’t care what other people think about you. I think my brother’s wrong about you.

Sky: Thanks Z.

Z: I think I should go inside now.

Sky: Right. I’ll see you at school tomorrow.

Z: Oke.

Sky: Goodnight.

Z smiled and walked to Sky. She gave him a kiss on his cheek.

Z: Goodnight Sky.

She walked to her house and before she enters the house, she turned around and smiled at him. Sky smiled back and watched as Z disappeared inside. Sky looked very happy and went home. He didn’t notice that someone else has seen everything. Jack was standing on the porch and appeared from his hiding place. He saw Sky leaving and anger is growing inside of him. He’s going to make for sure that Sky will stay away from his sister for good.

Chapter 5: TRUTH REVEALED

A new school day was about to begin. Bridge and Sam are standing at their locker. Bridge is looking very nervously around him. Sam could see what’s bothering Bridge and smiled.

Sam: Looking for someone specific?

Bridge: No, where did you get that idea from?

Sam: Oh, I don’t know. It just crossed my mind.

Bridge: I swear if you say one word to her…

Sam: Don’t worry, I won’t tell. I’m sure you will.

Bridge: I’m not.

Sam: You’re kidding me right.

Bridge: I don’t think it’s a good idea. I mean, what if she laughs at me?

Sam: Bridge, Bridge, Bridge, Bridge, Bridge, Bridge.

Bridge: Don’t get start on that.

Sam: Huh?

Bridge: Never mind.

Sam: Look, we both know Kat. We’ve known her for years. She’s not that insensitive. Kat has been your best friend for years, so there’s nothing to worry about.

Bridge: Well, what if I say something stupid?

Sam: Trust me, she won’t be surprised.

Bridge: I don’t know what I have to say to her.

Sam: Well, you better think of something quick, coz here she comes.

Bridge turns around and saw Kat and Mora coming up their way.

Kat: Hey guys.

Bridge: Hey Mat. I MEAN KAT!

Kat: Hey, Bridge. Are you alright?

Bridge: I’m fine.

Mora: Whatever. Anyway, we need to talk.

Sam: I agree. Why don’t we go talk over there?

Mora: Why?

Sam: Because 4 is just too much.

Sam dragged Mora with him and winked to Bridge, to give him a sign that he should go for it. Kat looked confused.

Kat: What was that all about?

Bridge: Sam…he forgot to have some breakfast this morning. You know Sam. If he doesn’t eat, his brains won’t work properly.

Kat smiled.

Bridge: Kat, there’s something I wanna tell you.

Kat: What is it?

Bridge: Kat, I…I…I…

Kat: Bridge, are you going to say more that just I?

Bridge: I’m just nervous.

Kat: Bridge, you can tell me anything. What’s on your mind right now?

Bridge: Kat, I wanted to tell you this for a long time.

Kat: Tell me what?

Bridge: Kat, I…

Z: Hey guys.

Before Bridge could finish his sentence, Z joined them.

Kat: Hey Z.

Bridge: Z, hey.

Z: You oke Bridge?

Kat: Bridge was about to tell me something.

Z: Oh, well what is it?

Bridge: I…was wondering if I could take you to your next class.

Kat: That’s what you wanted to ask me for a long time.

Bridge: Well, yeah. Since this morning.

Z: Are you sure you’re alright Bridge?

Bridge: I’m fine. Shall we go?

Bridge escorted Kat and Z to their class. Meanwhile, Sam talks with Mora to a corner.

Mora: Let me go.

Sam: Sorry.

Mora: What was that all about?

Sam: I’ll tell you. First I wanna say…I…I…

Mora: You’re what?

Sam: I…I’m…sorry.

Mora: Me too.

Sam: Really?

Mora: Look, we fought for years and it’s stupid to choose for not to graduate on something we do for years.

Sam: You’re right.

Mora: Oke, you’re acting strange now.

Sam: Why?

Mora: Usually at this point you say something to insult me, but you’re not.

Sam: Bridge has a crush on Kat.

Mora: What?

Sam: Lat night, he admitted that he has a crush on Kat.

Mora: No wonder he acted strange according to Kat.

Sam: I knew it.

Mora: Excuse me, I was the first who speculated the Bridge and Kat story.

Sam: Oh whatever. Bridge is going to tell her now.

Mora: Really? Well, I would like to see that show. I mean Bridge is not the open heart guy we know.

Sam: Trust me, he will tell her. By the end of the day, Bridge and Kat are officially a couple.

Mora: I’d like to see that with my own eyes before I judge.

Sam: You say what you want, but I just know it. And if you excuse me, Science class is waiting for me now.

Sam left and Mora rolled with her eyes. Hours passed by and school was almost over. Syd is working in the school’s newspaper office, The Daily Star. Sky enters the room.

Sky: Hey.

Syd: Hey you.

They kissed each other.

Sky: So, you’re ready to go?

Syd: Not really. I still have tons of work to do. The page for the 18 September 2010 Mainstreet Incident Tribute has to be finished today, so it will be on the edition of this Friday.

Sky: This Friday?

Syd: Yeah, Friday it’s 18th of September. It’s exactly 12 years ago that the Mainstreet Bomb incident happened.

Sky: Oh right. The memorial is this Friday.

Syd: Yeah.

Sky: Oke, I’ll just wait till you finished.

Syd: That’s so sweet. Did you win a lottery or something?

Sky: No, why?

Syd: You look so…happy.

Sky: Can’t I be happy?

Syd: Ofcourse you can. But something is different about you today. You’re smiling more often.

Sky: Well, someone told me to smile more often, coz I look better when I smile.

Syd: Who?

Sky: A friend.

Syd: That’s sweet.

Syd is cleaning some archive files.

Sky: You want me to help you on something.

Syd: Sure. Can you sort out that box of videotapes?

Sky: Sure.

Sky walked to the box with tapes and was looking at them. He saw a tape with New Tech High Prom 2004, a tape of New Tech High Graduation 2015, but what caught his eye was the tape with the date 18 September 2010.

Sky: Hey Syd, didn’t you say that 21 September 2010, was the day that big bomb exploded on Mainstreet?

Syd: Yeah.

Sky: You have New Tech City’s biggest drama on video?

Syd: A tourist was filming his holiday and at that moment, the bomb also exploded and he got the whole incident on tape.

Sky: This is stuff CNN would pay millions to actually have live footage of the bomb incident.

Syd: I know, but the principal doesn’t want to publish it. Someone doesn’t want to expose the bomb incident to the whole world.

Sky: Can I watch?

Syd: Sure. That tape is going to be stored in the basement anyway.

Sky puts the video inside and the video started. He took a seat in front of the screen. The video begins with a quiet Mainstreet, people are walking on the streets and are happy. Cars are driving and it was very busy and crowded. Suddenly, a bomb exploded in the middle of the center. People are screaming. Cars crashed against each other and were stuck. Gas was starting to leak and some cars are already exploding. People are crying and screaming for help. A woman is screaming to help her little girl. Some people went to the car and tried to open the door, but it was stuck. They opened the window, so they can move the little girl away from the car. They tried to save the woman too, but she was stuck.

Little Girl: Mommy!

The fire was coming closer.

Man: Look out!

The car with the woman exploded. The little girl, who was held in the arms of another woman screamed when she saw the explosion and cried when she saw her mother is gone for good. Sky paused the video for a while when he noticed that Syd is standing behind him and watches the tape as well.

Sky: This is sad.

Syd: I know. Poor girl. Did you know that from the 32 victims, she is the only who actually survived?

Sky: Really? Who?

Syd: I don’t know. The city hall doesn’t want to give any information about the identity of that young girl. The person decided to keep her identity as a secret.

Syd went back to the archives on her desk. Sky played the video on where he paused. A close up was taken of the little girl who was crying.

Little girl: Help me!

Sky felt sad for the little girl, but suddenly he saw something that seems familiar. He rewinds to the close up of the girl and paused on the close up of the girl. He walked to the screen to see it closer. Suddenly he recognize something familiars and it brings him a flashback.

Z: She was involved in a car accident years ago.

Z showed her golden Z necklace.

Z: My mother gave me this when I was born and since then I have never took it off.

His flashback stops and saw that the little girl wears the same Z necklace as Z. This could only mean one thing.

Sky: Z? Oh no. It can’t be.

Syd: Sky, what’s wrong?

Sky stood up and was angry and sad at the same time.

Sky: It just can’t be!

Sky left in a hurry leaving Syd confused.

Syd: Sky!

Sky walked outside and had tears in his eyes. Suddenly a hand was placed on his shoulder.

Sky: Syd, just leave me alone!

Sky turns around and saw Jack with some of his friends.

Jack: Hello Sky, this is your lucky day.

Sky: I don’t have time for this.

Jack: I’ve warned you Tate.

Sky pushed Jack away from him.

Sky: Back off Jack!

Jack punched Sky in the stomach and Sky felt on the ground from pain. Jack grabbed his collar.

Jack: What’s going on with you and Z?

Sky: What are you talking about?

Jack: I saw you with her last night. You really think I would let you get away with this.

Sky: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Jack punched him again in the stomach and Sky moaned from pain.

Jack: You really think I would let you hurt her just to get back at me?

Sky: What? I would never hurt her.

Jack: Tell it to the judge. Wait a minute, I’m the judge. And this judge finds you guilty.

Jack hit him in the face. Sky had a bleeding nose and felt unconscious on the ground.

Jack: Put him in the truck guys.

His friends dragged him inside the truck and stepped inside the truck. Jack started the car and they drove away.

Chapter 6: ACTIONS WITH CONSEQUENCES

This afternoon in New Tech Park, Sam and Mora are working on their project.

Mora: So, that’s what you want to be in the future? A motor crosser?

Sam: A professional motor crosser. Like my dad.

Mora: Just to become famous like him?

Sam: My dad is an example for me. He does a lot of charity work by attending motor cross competitions. I’d like to follow his footsteps.

Mora: Wow. Sam Reynolds who cares of other people, who could have seen that?

Sam: What? You think I’m greedy?

Mora: That’s not what I’m saying. I’m just surprised.

Sam: Look, just because I’m always picking on you, doesn’t mean that I don’t care.

Mora: I know. So, what about your mom?

Sam: I only see her once a year.

Mora: Aren’t you scared that she might never…you know?

Sam: Return? I do think about it everytime. I mean serving the army and out there fighting in the war…ofcourse I’m scared that she might not return. But by the letters and the cards she has sent, it gives me a little hope that someday she will return.

Mora: At least your mom didn’t run away. I mean your mom is a hero and she didn’t abandon her family. I wish my mom was like that.

Sam: Do you miss her?

Mora: At some part, I don’t. I mean what kind of mother would abandon her family? I’m so angry at her that she did this to me and my dad.

Sam: But?

Mora: But at some part, I do miss her. I have so many questions I want to ask her. Like how was she when she was little? Did she look like me? What was her first boyfriend like? Or her first kiss. How was she at college? A brave student or someone who likes to party all night long? How was I when I was born? Did she actually really want me? I guess the last answer is already answered. Maybe I was a too troubled kid and that’s why she didn’t want me.

Sam: I don’t think you’re troubled.

Mora: Come on Sam, you know me better than anyone. I have my own seat at Detention class. Teachers who get a migraine everytime I join their classes. My classmates who see me as a vermin that needs to be exterminated.

Sam: Oke, I have to admit, you’re not the bravest person at New Tech High. But no matter how much trouble you cause, not even you deserve to be deserted by your mom.

Mora smiled.

Mora: Thanks.

Sam smiled and there was an awkward silence between the 2.

Mora: Just don’t think that I’m going to treat you nice after what you just said.

Sam: Oh please don’t. I would miss the insults between us then. Insulting you is the only way to get me through a day of school.

Mora: Ditto.

They both smiled and continued on their project. Meanwhile, Z and Kat are in The Lair drinking coffee.

Kat: What do you mean he never showed up?

Z: Sky and I suppose to meet each other after school in here. I’ve been waiting for hours now.

Kat: That’s strange.

Z: I have no doubts that Miss Pom-poms is probably the reason.

Kat: And what if he’s not?

Z: You tell me. I mean if he’s not with Syd, then where could he be?

That evening, on a highway, nearby New Tech City, the truck with Jack, Sky and Jack’s friends are stopping.

Jack: Your stop is here Tate. See you tomorrow or someday.

He and his friends laughed. They throw out a wounded Sky with no clothes on, except his boxers. Jack and his friends drove away and left Sky alone. Sky tried to walk back to the city. Meanwhile, at Carson’s residence, Bridge tells Sam about what happened this morning at school.

Sam: You what??!!

Bridge: Could you keep your voice down? The neighbors don’t have to hear this.

Sam: Oke, first of all, it doesn’t matter. This house is located where almost no one can hear you. And second, how come you couldn’t have told Kat the truth?

Bridge: I wanted to, but Z appeared.

Sam: So?

Bridge: So…I don’t want everyone to find out about my feelings for Kat.

Sam: Oke, we’re talking about Z Delgado in here, one of the smartest girls at our school. I’m sure she kinda has noticed that you got a crush on one of her best friend. I don’t think Z is the reason why you didn’t tell Kat, it’s you. You are such a chicken.

Bridge: I’m not a chicken. I just don’t know how to tell her.

Sam: Oh come on Bridge. After 12 years you still haven’t figure that one out?

Bridge: I’m not like Jack or Sky. You know, stepping to a girl and ask her out.

Sam: Bridge, we’re not talking about just someone from school. It’s Kat we’re talking about. You know, the girl we’ve known since we were playing in the sandbox. Man, I remember that day. You couldn’t keep your eyes from her the day you met her for the first time.

Bridge: Thanks for rubbing it in. You sure made it easier for me now.

Sam: There’s nothing to worry about. Kat is Kat.

Bridge: Can we drop this subject?

Sam: Sure. After you told Kat the truth. Look, Kat doesn’t know this yet, but she’s a pretty smart girl. I’m sure she’ll find out soon.

Meanwhile, Z and Kat are still talking in The Lair.

Kat: Didn’t you think that Bridge acted strange today?

Z: Well, when isn’t he acting strange?

Kat: Is it me? I mean, maybe I’ve said something wrong.

Z: Like what?

Kat: I don’t know. I have this feeling that there’s something bothering him.

Z: Maybe you should ask him.

Kat: It’s like he has a secret and he doesn’t wanna tell me. Bridge and I have been good friends for years and he always tells me everything. But lately, it’s like he’s trying to avoid me. Are you sure I didn’t hurt his feelings or something?

Z: Maybe it’s something different.

Kat: Like what?

Z: Like…I don’t know. Maybe he has a crush on you.

Kat started to laugh.

Kat: A crush? On me?

Z: What’s so funny about that?

Kat: Z, Bridge and I are good friends. Really good friends. I don’t think he will see us more than that.

Z: How do you know?

Kat: Look at me Z. I’m not the most popular girl at school. I’m not pretty girl or head cheerleader like Syd Drew.

Z: Oke, first of all, don’t say you’re not pretty. You are stunning. And any guy who doesn’t see that, should really feel sorry for himself not to see that. And second, Syd may be a cheerleader, but there’s one thing that you have that she is missing.

Kat: What’s that?

Z: A pair of brains. Kat, I think the best thing you should do is to talk with Bridge about this.

Kat: Well, what am I suppose to say? “Hi Bridge, I was wondering, do you have a crush on me?”

Z: Works for me.

Kat: I don’t think so.

Z: Alright, have it your way. But if you don’t ask questions, you’ll never get answers.

Kat: Fine. I’ll talk to him.

Z: Good girl.

Z grabbed her cellphone and dialed a number.

Kat: Not now!

Z: Relax, I’m not calling Bridge.

Z sighs and hanged up her phone.

Z: Perfect. The answering machine.

Kat: Who are you trying to call?

Z: Sky, but his phone is off. I can’t believe he chooses his girlfriend over his grade that can depend on his entire future.

Kat: I don’t know. It doesn’t sound like Sky. When he has an appointment, he’s always there. And when he can’t make it, he always calls.

Z: Well, you know Syd Drew. She always gets things her way. She’s probably jealous.

Kat: Jealous? About what?

Z: That her boyfriend has to work together with me.

Kat: Why she has to be jealous on that?

Z: I don’t know. Ask Syd.

Kat: Unless… (Kat’s eyes grew large.) Did something happen between the 2 of you?

Z: What?! No! That is ridiculous.

Kat: Well, it’s not a bad thought. I mean Sky is pretty good-looking and any girl would kill to be that close to Sky Tate.

Z: Any girl who has half a brain.

Kat: Thanks a lot.

Z: Please don’t tell me you have a crush on Sky Tate as well.

Kat: No, but I do admit that he is good-looking. Come on Z, I know you agree with me on that.

Z: Alright, I admit. He’s cute, but that’s it.

Kat: Good girl.

Kat looked at her watch, stood up and put on her jacket.

Z: Where are you going?

Kat: Home. I promised Mora to help her on that Math assignment.

Z: Alright. Have fun.

Kat: You too. With Sky.

Z gave her an anger look.

Kat: I’m just kidding. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Z: Oke, bye.

Kat left The Lair and Z is reading the answers on her question list. She grabbed her phone and tries to call Sky again.

Sky: Hey, this is Sky Tate. I’m not in right now, but if you leave a message, I’ll call you back as soon as I can.

Z: Sky, this is Z. Where are you? We suppose to meet each other at 5 in The Lair. I’ve been waiting for hours. Give me a call when you hear this.

Z hanged up the phone and put her cellphone back in her pocket.

Syd: Where is he?

Z turned around and saw that Syd is standing behind her. She didn’t look too happy.

Z: Syd, what a surprise. If you’re looking for Jack, he’s not in here.

Syd: I wasn’t talking about your brother.

Z: Oh right, you and Jack didn’t get along. Yeah, I heard all about that. Maybe if you stick more time in your project than in your boyfriend, the both of you wouldn’t have any problems. And neither do I.

Syd: I’m not interested in your personal life right now. Where’s Sky?

Z: What do you mean, where’s Sky? You lost him already?

Syd: I haven’t seen Sky since school finished. Now where is he?

Z: Wait a minute. You’re saying that you haven’t seen him since 3 pm?

Syd: Yeah, so?

Z: I supposed to meet Sky in here at 5 pm, but he never showed up.

Syd: Oke, this is weird.

Z: Tell me about it. I mean I tried to call him, but all I get is his answering machine.

Syd: Where could he be?

Z: I don’t know. Let’s just hope he’s alright.

Meanwhile, at Carson’s residence, Bridge and Sam are still discussing about Kat.

Sam: I don’t get you Carson. First you finally admit to me that you have feelings for Kat, then you planned to tell Kat the truth and now you suddenly don’t wanna tell her anymore.

Bridge: It’s not as easy as you think.

Sam: You walk to her, tell her how you feel about her and ask her out. Sounds pretty simple to me.

Bridge: Well, if you had a crush on someone you would be in the same crisis as I am right now.

Sam: Hey, I had dates before.

Bridge: Yeah, but tell me, which of these dates you seriously felt in love with.

Sam didn’t know what to say and kept silence.

Bridge: See.

Sam: I didn’t have time for a relationship anyway.

Bridge: Why? Because you had your hands full on your hatred argues with Mora?

Sam: I don’t hate Mora.

Bridge: The 2 of you always fight with each other. You always insult her and you always try to make her look like a fool at school. That’s definitely not what I would do to someone I like.

Sam: We argue, but that doesn’t mean I hate her.

Bridge: Well, what would you call it?

Sam: We have our own way to get along with each other. You know what I mean?

Bridge looked a little confused to his roommate.

Bridge: Oh, I get it. So, to get along with someone I have to say things that insult them.

Sam: Yes… I mean no! I don’t know.

Bridge: Oke, now I’m confused.

Sam: Mora is just Mora. The way we get along with each other is very complicated, but it works.

Bridge started to smile.

Sam: What? Why are you smiling?

Bridge: This conversation suddenly starts to sound familiar.

Sam: What are you talking about?

Bridge: You know what they say. Opposites usually attract each other.

Sam: What do you mean by…?

Suddenly Sam’s eyes grew large and knew what Bridge meant by that comment.

Sam: What?! You don’t think that I…You don’t conclude that I…It’s not what I think, right?

Bridge: You tell me.

Sam started to laugh.

Sam: Me? A crush on Mora? That is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

Bridge: Why?

Sam: Mora and I don’t get along at all. So, love is certainly out of the question.

Bridge: Oh, I thought you said it was just a complicated relationship you and Mora have.

Sam: Can we drop this subject?

Suddenly the boys heard knocking on their door.

Bridge: We are so not done with this conversation.

The 2 boys walked to the door and Bridge opened it. They suddenly found a wounded Sky at their door and Sky collapsed in their arms.

Bridge: Sky!

Sky: Help me.

Sam: We have to get him inside.

Bridge closed the door and he and Sam helped Sky in the livingroom.

Bridge: Sam, you stay here. I go call for help.

Sam: You got it. Hang in there Sky.

Bridge went to the kitchen and grabs his cell phone. He dialed the number.

Bridge: Kat, it’s Bridge. Could you come over here? We need your help.

Chapter 7: LOST AND FOUND

In the evening at Carson’s residence, Bridge and Sam found a pretty wounded Sky with no clothes at their doorstep. They have put a blanket around him so he wouldn’t be freezing. Sky lies unconscious on the couch. Bridge and Sam are waiting for Kat to show up.

Sam: What happened to him?

Bridge: I don’t know. Let’s just hope he’ll be alright.

They heard knocking on the door. Bridge went to open the door. Kat and Mora were standing with their first aid box. He let them in.

Kat: I came here as fast as I could. What’s going on?

Bridge: It’s Sky.

The 2 girls followed Bridge to the livingroom and were shocked when they saw Sky with wounds and a blanket around him on the couch.

Mora: Oh my god. What happened?

Sam: We don’t know. We found him like this at our doorstep.

Kat went to Sky and checked him.

Kat: Sky, can you hear me?

Sky opened his eyes, but didn’t answer.

Bridge: Is he going to be alright?

Kat: He got some pretty nasty injuries. I need some water to clean the wounds first.

Sam: You got it.

Mora: I’ll help.

Mora followed Sam to the kitchen. Bridge took a seat next to Kat and looked at Sky.

Bridge: I can’t believe someone is this insane to do something like this.

Kat: He’s going to be alright Bridge.

Bridge: I know, but who could have done this?

In the kitchen, Mora and Sam get a bucket of water and some dry towels.

Mora: I can’t believe someone just leaves him on the street with no clothes and badly wounded. Do you think he’s…?

Sam: He’s going to be alright. Don’t worry.

Mora: Who could have done something terrible like that to Sky?

Sam: Someone who is completely out of his mind.

Mora and Sam returned with the dry towels and water in the livingroom.

Sam: Here’s the water and some towels.

Kat: Thanks.

While Kat cleaned the wounds, Sky had a lot of pain.

Mora: He looks pretty weak.

Kat: He probably ate nothing today.

Bridge: You know what, Sam and I will get some food for him.

Kat: Alright, Mora and I will stay right here.

Bridge: We’ll be back soon.

Bridge and Sam left. Kat continued on cleaning Sky’s wounds.

Kat: Stay still Sky, I know this hurts.

Sky started to hallucinate in his unconscious.

Sky: No, please don’t. I would never hurt your sister. Jack stop!

Kat and Mora shocked when they Sky calling Jack’s name and realized who has done it.

Kat: You don’t think it’s…?

Mora: Hello. He just called his name.

Kat: I know, but …Jack? This can’t be.

Mora: Why not? Jack and Sky are each others worst enemies. You know like, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, or Spiderman and the Kingpin, or Batman and the Joker.

Kat: You are comparing them for some science fiction characters.

Mora: Then why did he call his name?

Kat: I don’t know, but Jack would never do something like that.

Mora: Are you sure about that?

That evening, Syd is in The Lair sitting at a table nearby the window. She saw Bridge and Sam enter the place. They walked to the counter to order.

Bridge: One club sandwich, some coffee and a donut to go.

The waiter wrote it down and went to the kitchen to pass the order. Syd walked to Bridge and Sam.

Syd: Hey guys.

Bridge and Sam both turned around in shock.

Bridge & Sam: Syd!

Syd: Is everything oke?

Sam: Ofcourse, why wouldn’t we be oke?

Syd: I don’t know. You guys are kinda looking nervous.

Sam: We’re not nervous. Tell her Bridge.

Bridge: Yeah, we’re not nervous. I mean we might kinda look sweaty, but we’re not nervous. We also might be in a hurry, but we’re not nervous. We also are surprised to see you, but we’re not nervous. We also are…

Syd: Oke, I get the picture. Sorry I asked. Have you guys seen Sky?

Bridge: Why you’re asking?

Syd: Well, I haven’t seen him since school was out. I tried calling him, but he doesn’t pick up his phone.

Sam: So, why you’re asking us?

Syd: Well, I thought maybe he hung out with you guys.

Bridge: To be honest…

Sam: …we haven’t seen him at all.

Bridge: But…

Before Bridge could finish his sentence, Sam stood on his foot to keep him shut up, so he wouldn’t tell her the truth. Bridge could scream of pain, but he holds it in.

Sam: He might be with hanging out with his friends.

Syd: Must be having a great time that he ignores his phone.

Sam: Don’t be mad at him. He’s probably having a great time.

Syd: Well, I’m not the one who’s mad at him. It’s Z he will worry about. He stood her up while they suppose to do their project.

Sam: I’m sure he will explain to her. Oh, look at the time, we really have to go. We’ll see you tomorrow at school. Let’s go Bridge.

Sam took the bag with food and drag Bridge with him.

Syd: Bye guys.

Bridge and Sam left, leaving Syd confused at The Lair. Meanwhile at Carson’s residence, Sky woke up from his conscious.

Sky: What the…

Mora: Hey, look who just woke up.

Kat: How are you feeling?

Sky: I’m fine. Where am I?

Kat: You’re at Bridge’s house.

Sky: What happened?

Mora: You don’t remember? Bridge and Sam found you beaten up at their doorway with no clothes on.

Sky tried to stand up, but he had pain.

Sky: Ouch!

Kat: You better don’t move. You got some pretty nasty injuries.

Mora: I’ll go check in the kitchen if there’s anything to drink. I’ll be right back.

Mora disappeared in the kitchen. Sky looked at the bandages around his wounds.

Sky: Looks like you’re going to make a fine doctor someday.

Kat: Sky, there’s something I need to know.

Sky: What is it?

Kat: The person who did this to you…was it Jack?

Sky: Why you think it was him?

Kat: Well, first of all, you and Jack aren’t exactly best friends and second, you called his name during your unconscious.

Sky: Look, I’m sure it was just one of his pranks.

Kat: Sky, I’ve seen pranks before and this is not a prank. He beaten you up and left you on the street with no clothes on. I think you should talk to his parents about it.

Sky: No, don’t.

Kat: Oke, then you have to tell Z about it.

Sky: No, I don’t want Z to know about it.

Kat: Why not?

Sky: Z has enough problems of her own.

Kat: Sky, she has to know what Jack did to you.

Sky: Jack is her brother. He means the world to her. Please don’t tell Z about it.

Kat: Why it means so much for you to keep this from Z?

Sky: Z has been through so much and the last thing she needs is to lose another family member. Please don’t tell anything to Z or the guys.

Kat: I won’t.

Sky: Thanks.

They heard knocking on the door.

Mora: I’ll get it!

Mora opened the door and it was Bridge and Sam with the food.

Mora: What took you guys so long?

Bridge: Sorry, we were being held up.

The 3 teens entered the livingroom.

Kat: You guys are back.

Bridge: Hey, look who’s awake.

Sam: How are you doing?

Sky: I’m oke.

Kat: Kinda took long, where have you guys been?

Mora: Yeah, we were almost thinking that you guys weren’t returning at all.

Sam: Well, we are not like most people.

Sam’s comment affected Mora and there was an awkward silence.

Mora: I think I should be going now. Still got a lot to do at home.

Kat: You want me to come with you?

Mora: No, I’m fine.

Sam: I can give you a lift.

Mora: I said I’m fine! Sky, glad to have you back and I’ll see you guys at school tomorrow.

Mora left to the exit and Sam realized he said something stupid.

Sam: I’ll leave her out.

Sam followed Mora to the exit.

Sky: Those 2 could be so confusing sometimes.

Bridge: You have no idea.

Mora was about to leave, but Sam stopped her.

Sam: Mora, wait.

Mora: What? Any more funny comments you’d like make about my life?

Sam: I’m sorry, I know, it was stupid what I just said. Let me bring you home.

Mora: Are you deaf? I said I’m fine.

Sam: You can’t walk on your own at this time. Haven’t you seen what happened to Sky?

Mora: I’m a big girl Sam.

Sam: Could you please not be stubborn for one time?

Mora: Look, I’m tired to argue with you at this moment.

Mora wanted to leave, but Sam grabbed her arm.

Sam: This is not an argue Mora.

Mora: Let go of me.

Sam let Mora’s arm go and Mora left. Sam closed the door, turned around and saw Bridge standing behind him.

Sam: What?

Bridge: I’m not saying anything.

At Landors’s residence, Z is reading a book in the livingroom. Jack enters the livingroom.

Z: Hey.

Jack: Hey.

Z: Where have you been?

Jack: Out with friends.

Z: This late and on a school week?

Jack: Z, I’m tired right now. I’m not in the mood to talk right now, oke.

Z: Oke. Hey, have you seen Sky today?

Jack: No, why?

Z: He supposed to meet me at The Lair for the project at 5, but he never showed up.

Jack: Sounds like Sky Tate. He always let his friends go first then school.

Z: Jack! Sky is not like that. I know the both of you have difference, but he’s not as bad as you think.

Jack: Yeah, whatever. I’m sure he shows up someday. Don’t you worry too much about Sky. Now, if you don’t mind, I go to my room and get some sleep.

Z: Oke. Goodnight.

Jack: Goodnight.

Jack walked upstairs to his room. Z is wondering why Jack is acting strange. She has a feeling that her brother is hiding something from her, but what could that be?

Chapter 8: THE SECRETS WITHIN US

A new morning was about to appear in New Tech City. For the students of New Tech High, it meant a new school day for them. Bridge and Sam are talking in the school hall nearby their lockers about what happened yesterday.

Sam: I don't understand why Sky doesn’t wanna say who beat him up.

Bridge: I know. Kat doesn’t wanna talk about it either. I have a pretty good feeling that she knows more about this.

Sam: Speaking about Kat, when are you going to tell her?

Bridge: Sam, it’s still early. Can we talk about something else?

Sam: No, we’re still not done with the Bridge/Kat conversation.

Bridge: Oh, well, since we’re on the coupling topic, neither did I finish with yours.

Sam: What are you talking about?

Bridge: The Sam/Mora conversation.

Sam: Well, we’ll be done with that one quick, coz there’s nothing to talk about.

Bridge: Oh no? What was that last night at the door before she left the house?

Sam: I offered her a lift home, she rejected.

Bridge: Ooh, your first rejection. That’s gotta hurt.

Sam: Bridge, it’s not what you think.

Bridge: Uh-huh.

Sam: Let me put it this way. Mora and I were not, are not and never will be a couple. We are too much different from each other.

Bridge: Opposites do attract sometimes.

Sam: You’re right, sometimes they do. But this is me and Mora we’re talking about. She hates me more than anyone in this entire world.

Bridge: How do you know that?

Sam: Oh…I don’t know…maybe after years of insulting, calling out names at each other and making each other’s life miserable is the key to that hate that is growing between us.

Bridge: I thought you didn’t hate her.

Sam: Bridge, give it up. Mora and I do not have feelings for each other. End of story.

Sam closed his locker, left to his next class and Bridge followed him. At that moment, Sky enters the school hall and went to his locker.

Syd: Well, if it isn’t my dear boyfriend who hasn’t returned my calls.

Sky: Not now Syd.

Syd: While you were out with your buddies, I was worried sick about you. Sky, look at me when I’m talking to you.

Sky turned around and Syd could see some blue marks on his face.

Syd: Oh my god. What happened to you?

Sky: I had an accident when I hang out with the boys.

Syd: Does it hurt?

Sky: I’m fine.

Syd: Oh, I’m so sorry. I was just worried about you.

Sky: I’m sorry. I should have called you.

Syd: I’m glad you’re oke now.

They both kissed each other and hugged. Sky suddenly saw Z walking with Kat in the hall. Z gave him one look and then she looked in another direction. She didn’t look too happy.

Sky: So, how’s your project doing?

Syd: It’s a nightmare. Jack is such a jerk. We argue about everything.

Sky: Well, still a few days to go and this will be all over.

Syd: Don’t think that you’re going to get it easy.

Sky: What are you talking about?

Syd: Z was pretty mad when you stood her up at The Lair last night.

Sky: Oh no, our project.

Syd: She waited for hours.

Sky: I’ll talk to her later.

Syd: Oke. Come on, we’ve got class now.

Sky and Syd walked hand in hand to their next class. Hours passed by and before the students know, it was time to have lunch. Bridge and Kat were doing their project in the library.

Kat: Let me see, we’ve got the question list, the report, the investigations and…

Bridge: We’re almost done.

Kat: You’re kidding me.

Bridge: Nope. We rock.

Kat: I guess there’s only the typing of the report.

Bridge: I’m sure we’ll get that finished within 2 days.

Kat: Bridge, there’s something I want to ask you.

Bridge: What is it?

Kat: It’s you. I wanna talk about you. You are kinda acting strange lately.

Bridge: What do you mean?

Kat: Well, it’s like you’re not feeling comfortable that we both got pair up.

Bridge: No, no, no. I’m really happy that you are my partner.

Kat: Well, did I say something wrong? I mean on Monday you suddenly walked away during our project.

Bridge: I needed to take care of something. Kat, it’s really nothing.

Kat: Bridge, we’ve been friends for years and you know that you can tell me anything. I want to know what’s bothering you.

Bridge: Kat, I…I…

Kat: You’re what?

Bridge rubbed in his eyes.

Bridge: I…

Kat: Say it to me Bridge. Can you say it? Can you say that you’re in love with me? Can you say that you wanted me for so long? Can you say that you want to be with me? Say it Bridge, say it, say it, say it…

Bridge closed his eyes.

Bridge: I can’t! Leave me alone!

Bridge opened his eyes and realized it was just a daydream.

Kat: Bridge, are you alright?

Bridge: No, I’m not.

Kat: What’s wrong?

Bridge: I’m sorry, I can’t say it. I just can’t.

Bridge ran away from the library.

Kat: Bridge!

Kat was confused by Bridge’s respond. What is brothering him so much? Meanwhile, Jack and Syd are working on their project.

Syd: So, your dad is a lawyer and your mom is an architect. Interesting.

Jack: And your mom is a teacher and your dad is a businessman. I’m not surprised.

Syd: So, what are you doing with your parents during Christmas?

Jack: We celebrate it in our home. My parents get the tree and Z and I always decorate it. My mom always cooks during the holidays. The table is usually filled with too much food.

Syd: Really?

Jack: Yeah, and my dad always tells Christmas stories at our fireplace. He told the Christmas Carol story like a hundred times.

Syd: Christmas Carol? I love that story.

Jack: Me too. No matter how many times he tells the story, I never can get enough.

Syd: How about presents?

Jack: Well, the tree is usually filled with loads of presents. I remember I gave Z a book written by her favorite author, I never forget that smile on her face when she saw it.

Syd: Sounds you and your family are very close with each other.

Jack: I don’t know where I would be without them. So, enough about me, what about you?

Syd: Oh, you don’t wanna hear mine.

Jack: Come on Syd, you’ve heard mine, now it’s your turn. How do you celebrate Christmas with your family?

Syd: We actually don’t.

Jack: You don’t celebrate Christmas? Your dad isn’t like Ebenezer Scrooge, right?

Syd: No, he’s not. It’s just…my mom lives in Paris and my dad is always away on business.

Jack: So, you’re usually celebrating Christmas with your house staff?

Syd: Around the holidays they go to their own family.

Jack: What? You’re not telling me that you’re always alone around Christmas.

Syd: I’m used to it.

Jack: You don’t suppose to celebrate Christmas on your own. You suppose to be with your family and friends.

Syd: Jack, all of my friends are visiting their own family and my own family…well, they are too busy with their own things.

Jack: Wow, I usually thought that rich people like you are always giving like a huge party during Christmas.

Syd: Living the rich life doesn’t always seem perfect as you think. Sometimes we all have to make sacrifices. Sometimes I wish I had your life Jack.

Jack: Well, a lot of people don’t mind to trade their life with yours.

Syd: Some people don’t know how it is to be me. I would trade all the money I own just to be with my family.

Jack: I’m sorry about that Syd.

They both smiled at each other and continued on their project. Meanwhile, Z is standing at her locker. She grabs some books and put it in her bag. Sky saw her and walked to her.

Sky: Hey, can we talk?

Z: About what? That you stood me up yesterday? I waited for hours at The Lair Sky.

Sky: I know, I’m sorry.

Z: What happened to you anyway?

Sky: A small accident.

Z: During your trip with your buddies?

Sky: Yeah.

Z: Look, I don’t know if you’re taking this project seriously, but I do. We lost one day of working on your project, because you chose to hang out with your friends.

Sky: It’s not what you think Z.

Z: Then what it is it Sky? Why didn’t you come to The Lair yesterday?

Sky wanted to tell her the truth, but knew he couldn’t.

Sky: I guess…I forgot.

Z: You forgot? That is your reason? I thought you were different than what Jack told me. I guess I was wrong.

Sky: I’m sorry Z.

Z: Me too.

Sky left and Z sighed. She grabbed a few more books. Mora saw everything and walked to Z.

Mora: Having a fight with your project partner?

Z: Well, not everything goes smooth sometimes. But I’m sure you know all about it.

Mora: You had a fight because he didn’t appear at The Lair yesterday?

Z: How’d you know?

Mora: I do have ears you know

Z: Look Mora, I don’t want sound rude, but I don’t like people listening to other people’s conversations.

Mora: I was interested.

Z: This is something between me and Sky.

Mora: I only listen when I know more about it then you think.

Z: What do you mean?

Mora: You think that his absence has anything to do with the way he looks right now?

Z: What are you talking about?

Mora: Maybe you should ask your brother Jack where he has been yesterday.

Z: He was with me.

Mora: Are you sure?

Z: What is this all about?

Mora: Z, sometimes the answers on our questions lies closer than you think.

Mora left and Z was confused. What connection does her brother Jack has with Sky? Is there more going on than she knows?

Chapter 9: ALL THE THINGS I SAID RUNNING THROUGH MY HEAD

That afternoon in the cafeteria, Bridge is drinking his milkshake. He looked depressed. Sky walked by and saw his best friend looking sad. He took a seat next to him.

Sky: Hey.

Bridge: Hey.

Sky: You still got any room in the world of sadness?

Bridge: Join the club.

Sky: Mind to tell me what’s bothering you so much?

Bridge: Nothing.

Sky: Uh-huh. That’s why you’re sitting here with 3 empty milkshake glasses.

Bridge: Oke, there is something bothering me. But you can’t tell anyone.

Sky: Does it involve a girl, who’s in our class, who we’ve known for years, is one of the smartest girls at New Tech High and her name starts with a K?

Bridge: Oke, who at New Tech High actually doesn’t know about my long-time crush on Kat?

Sky: Uhm…Kat herself.

Bridge: You mean everyone knows?

Sky: Well, it’s kinda obvious. The way you’re acting weird when she’s around or the way you look at her.

Bridge: Why didn’t you guys say something?

Sky: We wanted to hear it from your own mouth. Well, at least before we’re going to college.

Bridge: I totally blew it. During lunch break, I wanted to tell her, but I didn’t have the courage. Sam is right, I’m a chicken.

Sky: Hey, you are not a chicken. It’s oke to be scared to express your feelings towards someone you really like. It’s not always the easiest thing in the world.

Bridge: Then how come it went easy for you and Syd?

Sky: Sometimes, you get lucky in love. Sometimes you don’t.

Bridge: Oke, is being with Syd in this case lucky for you or not?

Sky: Oh, don’t get me wrong, Syd is great. She’s funny, beautiful, great to hang out with…

Bridge: But?

Sky: But what?

Bridge: I feel a but is coming up.

Sky: There’s no but.

Bridge: Oh come on Sky. Bring it up. This is the Sadness club, so talk to me.

Sky: Have you ever felt like you wanted to be close with someone…but you just can’t?

Bridge: Oh wow, are you talking about…? Oh wow. I really don’t know what to say. I think you really should take your time and think about this before you consider doing it. Look, I’m sure if you give Syd some time, I mean maybe she’s not ready to…you know.

Sky: Bridge, I wasn’t talking about Syd.

Bridge’s eyes grew large when he heard Sky’s respond. Could Sky have been fallen for someone else the past years? Someone else than the popular Syd Drew? Meanwhile, Kat is sitting in the library all by herself. She’s trying to concentrate on her schoolwork, but after what happened with Bridge, she couldn’t focus. At that moment, Z joins her.

Z: Men!

Kat: Having a bad day?

Z: I just ran up to Sky. His excuse to blow me off at The Lair yesterday was that he forgot our appointment.

Kat: Maybe he did forget.

Z: Well, I don’t believe it. I think he went to hang out with his friends.

Kat: Maybe he had another reason.

Z: Like what? He even admitted that he forgot our appointment. I can’t believe that I felt for the seducing tricks of Sky Tate. Jack was right about him.

Kat: I’m sure Sky didn’t mean to blow you off.

Z: Yeah, sure. Can we please forget the subject Sky Tate for a minute and talk about other things? For example, Bridge Carson.

Kat: Well, Bridge and I finished our project. All we need to do is to type our report.

Z: Kat, I wasn’t exactly talking about your project. I was talking about the 2 of you.

Kat: I don’t know. Maybe you’re wrong about it.

Z: Wrong about what?

Kat: That Bridge has feelings for me.

Z: Why? Did he say no?

Kat: When I ask what was bothering him lately, he ran away.

Z: I think Bridge has some trouble with telling the way he feels about you.

Kat: You think?

Z: Kat, there are so many guys out there who are scared to express their feelings towards a woman.

Kat: Great. So, what I do now? Everytime I want to bring it up, he runs away.

Z: Just give him some time. He’s probably nervous and he wants everything to go alright without throwing away years of friendship. If you just wait patiently, he’ll eventually come to you.

Kat: I guess you’re right. Thanks Z.

At that moment, Mora joins the 2 girls.

Mora: Are we celebrating here something?

Kat: Not really.

Mora: Oh, so I assume you told her the truth.

Z: About what?

Mora: About what Jack did to Sky.

Kat: Mora!

Mora: Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was suppose to be a secret for her.

Z: What secret? What is going on?

Kat: Z…there’s something you need to know.

Z listens as Kat told her the truth about what happened to Sky that night and that her brother Jack was involved in this. In the gym, Sam is playing basketball by himself. Syd is practicing with the cheerleaders. They took a break. Syd took a seat next to Sam on the bench.

Syd: Hey.

Sam: Hey, looking good out there.

Syd: Thanks, but I think we still need to add more stunts on our dance.

Sam: You guys are already the best cheerleaders of the state.

Syd: Thanks, but still gotta keep practicing. So, what’s up?

Sam: Nothing. Why?

Syd: Well, you’re here all alone. And it looks like something is bothering you.

Sam: There’s nothing going on.

Syd: Yeah sure. What is it this time? Your mom, your schoolwork, Mora.

Sam: Why does everyone think something is wrong between me and Mora?

Syd: Aha, I think we found the problem here Houston. So, what’s going on?

Sam: Nothing, Mora is just being stubborn.

Syd: Sam, that is not something new. We hear you say that almost everyday.

Sam: It’s just…when I’m trying to be nice at her, she blows me away.

Syd: Uh-huh, why the sudden change of heart? I mean I thought you hated her.

Sam: Why do you and Bridge think that? I do not hate Mora. We argue a lot, but that doesn’t mean that I hate her.

Syd: Then why is it bothering you?

Sam: I’m just trying to be nice. Is there something wrong with that?

Syd: No, but I thought no one could break down the Berlin Wall between the 2 of you.

Sam: I’m just trying to light up the situation between us. Is that bad?

Syd’s eyes grew large when she discovers something.

Syd: Oh my gosh.

Sam: What?

Syd: I think you are starting to like her.

Sam: What?!

Syd: This is so cute.

Sam: Don’t you get me start at this as well.

Syd: I think you both will look so cute together.

Sam: Mora and I are not a couple, we don’t love each other. Do I have to scream it of the roofs or something?

Syd: Oke, tell me this. Would you be oke if Mora’s seeing another guy?

Sam started to laugh.

Syd: What’s so funny?

Sam: Oke, we’re talking about Mora here. She probably scared all the guys of New Tech High. I mean, who wants to date her?

Syd: I don’t see why that is impossible.

Sam: Syd, I’ve known Mora for years. Trust me, she has no interest in any guy at New Tech High.

Syd: Oke, maybe you’re right. But what if she goes to college?

Sam: What about it?

Syd: Sam, Mora is not the little 7 year old girl, who hit you for burning her hair. She’s a woman now. At college she probably will meet someone who respects her, cares about her and most important tells her about his feelings for her.

Sam: Come on, this is Mora we’re talking about.

Syd: No, you’re talking about the Mora we know now. I’m talking about the Mora who will go to college next year. Be honest, can you bear to see her with another guy than yourself?

Sam didn’t know what to say. Maybe Syd was right. What if Mora replaces Sam with someone else? Jack is standing at his locker, talking and laughing with his friends. At that moment, Z joins them. She didn’t look too happy.

Jack: Hey sis, ready to go?

Z: Where were you after school yesterday?

Jack’s friends suddenly left. They didn’t want to be a part of the quarrel that was going to start between the 2 siblings.

Jack: Can we discuss this subject later?

Z: Why Jack? It seems like a very simple question to me.

Jack: I was with the guys. Happy?

Z: So, the rumor about you having Sky beaten up, stripped of his clothes and left him on the streets is a lie?

Jack: Who told you?

Z: So, it’s true?

Jack: Z, it was just a joke.

Z: Jack, you have left him with no clothes on the streets.

Jack: That’s not true. He still had his boxers on.

Z: That’s not funny Jack. It was cold outside. He could have died out there.

Jack: It’s his own fault. I warned him.

Z: Warned him for what?

Jack: Warned him that he had to stay away from you.

Z: What are you saying?

Jack: I saw the 2 of you that night. Z, I could see that he was palming you in. He’s using you to get back at me, can’t you see that?

Z: What were you thinking? The world doesn’t only turn around you Jack.

Jack: Look, I was just worried about you. You don’t know Sky Tate at all.

Z: You’re right, I don’t. But I guess I don’t know you either at all.

Z left with a disappointed face.

Jack: Z, wait.

Z didn’t want to listen to her brother. She knows the truth and feels upset and guilty at the same time.

Chapter 10: CONFRONTED CONVERSATIONS

At school, Syd and Bridge walked in the school hall. They were on their way to home. Syd is talking with Sky on her phone.

Syd: Oke, I’ll talk to you later. I’ll miss you. Bye.

Syd hangs up and put her phone in her pocket.

Bridge: So, everything alright between you and Sky?

Syd: Yeah, why wouldn’t we be?

Bridge: Just wondering. I haven’t seen the 2 of you together lately.

Syd: That’s because we are both busy working on Cruger’s assignment. Remember, my partner is Jack and Sky’s partner is Z.

Bridge: So, how you’re holding it with a partner like Jack?

Syd: Well, it’s not that bad.

Bridge: Not bad? Do those words just come out from our Head cheerleader Sydney Drew?

Syd: Why does it sound weird when I actually say that?

Bridge: Perhaps you couldn’t stand each other before the 2 of you got pair up.

Syd: I guess I misjudged Jack. You know, beneath that macho behavior, he has a heart for his family. Family means everything to him. I never saw Jack like that before.

Bridge: Oke, will the real Sydney Drew please stand up? Coz this person who just said those sentence couldn’t be the Sydney Drew we’ve known for years.

Syd: I’m serious. I see Jack now in a different way.

Bridge: What way will that be? The “I can stand you now” way or the “I feel attracted to you” way?

Syd: What? Attracted?

Bridge: Well, that’s not a bad thought. I mean, Jack is very popular with the girls.

Syd: He is, but I’m not attracted to him. That would be silly.

Bridge: Why is that?

Syd: Hello, remember Sky Tate? The football player, who happens to be my boyfriend as well.

Bridge: So? I find Charlize Theron attractive. I find Katie Holmes attractive. Hey, Halle Berry doesn’t look unattractive as well. But that doesn’t change my feelings for Kat.

Syd’s eyes grew large and a huge smile appeared on her face.

Bridge: Oh, god, please tell me you already knew that.

Syd: Well, I had my suspicions.

Bridge: I thought the whole school already knew it.

Syd: Well, not officially. Oh, my god, so it’s true. After all those years, you finally admit it.

Bridge: Oke, move to another subject.

Syd: Does she know?

Bridge: Oke, we were talking about Jack.

Syd: Oh, no, you haven’t told her yet.

Bridge: It’s good that you and Jack aren’t arguing anymore.

Syd: I can’t believe you haven’t told her yet.

Bridge: All that argue would only disturb your project.

Syd: When are you going to tell her?

Bridge: It must be a lot easier to work with him now.

Syd: Are you planning to tell her anyway?

Bridge: Are you attracted to Jack now?

Syd: Bridge!

Bridge: Syd!

Syd: Don’t avoid the subject.

Bridge: I agree. We were talking about Jack first, remember.

Syd: Well, this is important. This conversation about your crush on Kat should have found place when we were in kindergarten.

Bridge: I’m not going to talk about it anymore.

Syd: Fine, then I won’t talk about Jack either.

Bridge: Fine.

Syd: Fine.

Bridge and Syd kept walking to home in silence. Meanwhile, Mora and Sam are in The Lair. They’re working on their project together. Sam is staring at her and Mora noticed it.

Mora: What?

Sam: Nothing.

Mora: Then why are you staring at me for the past 10 minutes?

Sam: Can’t people just look at you without any reason?

Mora: Yes, people can, but I was talking about you.

Sam: Well, is it weird for you that I’m just looking at you?

Mora: Yes, it is. You haven’t said a word since we got here.

Sam: Well, what am I suppose to say?

Mora: You suppose to make fun of me now. Insult me, embarrass me, whatever thing that irritates me.

Sam: I’m not in the mood.

Mora: Why? Did someone died?

Sam: I’m just not in the mood. Can we just continue on our project?

Mora: Fine.

Suddenly another student joins them.

Andy: Hey Mora.

Mora: Hey Andy.

Andy: So, what’s up?

Mora: Nothing much.

Andy: I saw you at Kickboxing class last Saturday. You were awesome.

Mora: How do you know I’m taking kickboxing classes?

Andy: I have connections with Bill Hughes.

Mora: You know my teacher? Since when?

Andy: Since the day I was born. Bill Hughes is my father.

Mora: You’re kidding me. Wait a second, you’re The Andrew Hughes? Number 1 student of the class?

Andy: Guilty.

Mora: Wow, your dad has told so much about you.

Andy: I hope nothing embarrassed?

They both laughed and Sam rolled with his eyes and tried to concentrate on his work.

Mora: Actually, you’re a role model to every student at that class. I mean, everybody wants to be as good as you.

Andy: How about you?

Mora: Well, I’m trying my best.

Andy: You know, I can give you some lessons if you like.

Mora: Really?

Andy: Yeah, sure.

Mora: That sounds great.

Mora and Andy kept smiling and Sam could feel the tension and was very annoyed by it.

Sam: Oke, Romeo. If you don’t mind, Julia and I are working on our project right now. So, why don’t you go wait under her balcony and maybe if you’re lucky, she’ll make a window break appearance tonight.

Mora gave him a hatred look.

Andy: I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you.

Mora: You didn’t disturb us. The nurse is always annoying like that, aren’t you?

Sam: Yes, and you better go now before her cousin Tybalt will appear with his guns and blows away your brains. And trust me, none of your kicks can stop that.

Andy: Oke, I can take a hint. Look, Mora, why don’t you give me a call and we’ll make an appointment.

Mora: Oke, I will.

Andy: I’ll see you around.

Mora: Bye.

Andy: See you Mora. Bye nurse.

Andy left and Sam was relieved. However Mora gave him an evil look.

Sam: Man, that guy is the best suck up I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

Mora: What was that all about?

Sam: What was what?

Mora: The things you said to Andy. I can’t believe you said those things.

Sam: Well, you wanted me to be me again.

Mora: Yeah, but that doesn’t mean you suppose to insult Andy. You suppose to insult me.

Sam: Well, did it bother you when I insulted him?

Mora: Yeah.

Sam: Then I’m back.

Mora: You are so unbelievable, you know that?

Sam: Thanks, good to have me back too.

Mora: Ugh!

Mora was irritated that she couldn’t stand to see Sam’s face at the moment. She went to get some coffee. Sam smiled when he saw Mora walking to the counter irritated. Meanwhile, Kat is walking in New Tech Park. She couldn’t stop thinking about Bridge and needed fresh air. Jack’s walking in the park as well and saw Kat. He walked to her.

Jack: Kat!

Kat: Jack, hey. How are you?

Jack: Not so good.

Kat: How come?

Jack: I had a fight with Z. I did something bad to Sky and thanks to my actions, I gave Sky the opportunity to take advantage off the situation.

Kat: What is that?

Jack: He told Z about what I did and she falls right in his trap, exactly where he wants her. That guy is a snake, he’s trying to have Z on his side, so she will turn against me.

Kat: Uhm, Jack. Sky wasn’t the one who told Z about what happened last night.

Jack: Kat, you don’t have to defend him.

Kat: I’m not. I was the one who told Z about what happened.

Jack: What?! How could you?

Kat: I’m sorry, but I couldn’t lie to my best friend.

Jack: Oh well, she probably heard it from Sky anyway.

Kat: I don’t think so.

Jack: What do you mean?

Kat: Sky asked me not to tell anyone about what happene

Jack: Oh, now, he’s trying to palm you in. Very clever.

Kat: Would you please put your ego aside? This is serious. I’ve seen Sky last night, I had to nurse his wounds.

Jack: Was it that bad?

Kat: Bad? Jack, he could have died out there. I couldn’t believe when I heard that you were the one who did that to him.

Jack: Look, I didn’t mean to.

Kat: But you did. You should have seen him. He had pain everywhere.

Jack: I didn’t mean to put his life at risk. It’s just that guy is a real jerk.

Kat: I know that you and Sky aren’t exactly the best friends, but you’ve gone too far. This isn’t a prank with toilet paper we’re talking about. If Bridge and Sam didn’t find him, than I don’t know what could have happened to him. Thank god they did.

Jack: Oke, it got a little out of hand. I’m sorry. I never meant this to happen. You gotta believe me.

Kat: I do believe you, but I still think you should go to him and tell him that you’re sorry.

Jack: No way. I’m not going to do that.

Kat: Jack, don’t be so selfish. Look, I’m not telling you that the 2 of you should be friends, I’m just saying that you should tell him that you’re sorry and that you were out of line.

Jack: Never.

Kat: You know, Sky could have gone to the police and have let you arrest. He could have also gone to the principal and have you expelled. He could have also told your parents and have you sent to the Military Academy. But he didn’t. He could have ruined your life, but he chose not to. Plus, you’re telling me that you have regret about this all, but I’m not the one you should apologize Jack.

Kat walked on her own in the Park, while Jack kept standing and thinks about what Kat just said about Sky. Why would his worst enemy do this? At the end of the afternoon, the sun was about to go under. At Tate’s residence, Sky put his bag in the livingroom and looked at a picture of him and his mother on the table. He could hear some noises from the kitchen. His father is cooking and his new girlfriend is there as well. Sky didn’t feel like joining them, so he decided to leave the house and goes to his special place. Nearby the house, there’s a small hut that finds place at the creek. Sky enters the creek house. He saw Z standing there, enjoying the sunset. Z looked beautiful when the light of sunset shines on her. The way she stood there, it reminded him of his mother. He walked to Z.

Sky: Z?

Z turns around and smiled.

Z: Hey. Your dad said I could find you here. I hope you don’t mind that I waited.

Sky: No, I’m just surprised to see you here.

Z: This is really amazing. The view is really beautiful.

Sky: This was my mom’s favorite spot. Everytime when she just wanted to be alone, she went here. I guess this place is the only thing that keeps me close with my mom.

Z: Well, you have no complaints about the sky, you can see the sunset everyday.

Sky: My mom came here a lot, because she loved seeing the sunset and the sky.

Z: Well, that explains your name.

Sky: Uhm Z…this morning you were all upset and now you’re actually standing here at my mom’s place…

Z: And you’re wondering why I’m here now?

Sky: Yeah. Well, not that I don’t mind the company. Except if you heard some great news that you decided to forgive me.

Z: I did hear something news.

Sky: Good or bad?

Z: In my case, bad. I even feel guilty. I’m actually here to apologize.

Sky: Why?
