Urutanken Episode 01: Attack Of The Black Rise Government

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

The man in purple ran through Epping Forest as fast as he could, holding a wooden box under his arm. He was probably in his late 30s, with chiselled features and long, black hair riddled with sweat. His dark eyes were lined with coal-induced markings and his clothing was reminiscent to the shamans of old. Around his neck was a silver talisman in the shape of a wolf’s head. His sandaled feet kicked up grit and pebbles as he dashed towards the large river by some old ruins. He stopped at the very edge of the bank and turned around. Emerging from the trees was a tall figure in black, knight-like armour decorated with spikes in various places. In his right hand was a large sword, also covered in spikes.

“Give up the Howl Seeds and nobody gets hurt,” the armoured figure said in an eerie, metallic voice. “Never,” said the man in purple, “Evil creatures like you and your masters will never have a righteous thing like the Howl Seeds.” The knight leant on his sword, clapping his hands, “Bravo, a noble speech Lupus. But either you can give me those seeds, or I’ll take them by force.”
“You’ll have to pry these from my cold dead hands Rise Night,” Lupus snarled, holding the box tightly. “Gladly,” the man named Rise Night held out his sword and a blast of energy fired out. Lupus dived out of the way and started running downstream towards London.
“I love it when they run,” Rise Night smirked and took off after his target.

A lone boy sat in Debden train station, his head in his hands. He had been the witness of a terrible accident – his young brother had been hit by a speeding car. They had all seen great things in young Jamie-Lee Harris, he was a sportsman and a good friend despite being a total prat sometimes. If he pulled through, it would be a miracle if he could ever play sports again. Scott David Harris was the less athletic one, preferring to write and read. Scott sighed, watching as a train sped past him and into the black tunnel beyond.

‘Goddamn it…’ he thought, ‘…Why is it always the good ones who get hurt. I’m lucky we don’t pay medical bills, it might cost a fortune. I hope he pulls through.’

He suddenly heard the loud patter of wood on the tiled floor. Scott looked up as a man in purple robes lumbered past, obviously wounded. He was bleeding from his back. Then suddenly, the man collapsed. Scott ran over to the fallen man and lifted his head up, “Dude, you ok?”
Lupus coughed, blood dribbling down his chin. “Hang on man, I’ll get you to a hospital,” Scott pulled out his mobile phone and flipped it open. “No, no,” Lupus said weakly, “You…have a good heart young man…here…take this and protect it…” He shoved a brown casket into the boy’s arms.
“What’s this…?”
“Just…look after them, protect them from the Black Rise Government.”
“The what?”
“…An ancient, evil force…their intention is…to…conquer the Earth…enslave its people…please…take these Howl Seeds…make sure they don’t…get…them…”
Lupus fell silent, his eyes closing completely. He was dead. Scott set him down gently and removed his black baseball cap, holding it to his heart in respect for the dead. Then, before the boy’s eyes, Lupus’ body decomposed into sparkles of purple energy, fading into oblivion, leaving only the wooden box. Scott reached for the item and when he touched it, a purple wolf-head symbol appeared on the lid, an identical symbol to the one on Lupus’ medallion. The box flipped open and hundreds of purple objects about the same size and shape of a marble floated out.

Scott scrambled back, staring at the objects. One of them zipped towards him while the others flew off in different directions. The first object slammed into Scott’s chest with incredible force, fading inside of his body. At that moment, he heard heavy, metal footsteps and looked up. Rise Night dashed into the station and gasped in horror. “NO!” the monstrous being screamed, “THE HOWL SEEDS! THEY’RE GONE!” He glared at Scott, “YOU! YOU SHALL DIE A PEASANT’S DEATH!”
Scott scampered to his feet and made a run for it, not noticing a small, glowing circle over his heart.

Rise Night charged after his new target, angrily firing energy bolts from his sword. Scott kept dodging the attacks and ran up the stairs, out into the streets. Rise Night stopped at the top of the stairs and growled, “We will meet again boy, I swear we’ll meet again.”

Scott stood in front of the mirror in his flat that night, staring at his reflection. A purple mark had appeared over his heart. The wolf head symbol. Why did it keep plaguing him like this? He rested his hand over it and suddenly, the left side of his head began to glow. In a flash, a blue headset had appeared with a microphone piece next to his mouth. “What…” Scott stared in astonishment, “What is this?!” His reflection warped to show a man in purple-and-blue armour. Scott covered his eyes and stepped back, “I’m losing it.” He fell back onto his bed, “This can’t be happening.”

He got onto his knees and let out a wolf-like howl. He gripped his head yet again and stumbled off the bed and collapsed against the wall, the wolf symbol glowing brightly. “What am I…?” Scott whispered, “…What are you? Must have…must have something to do with this…” He rested his hand over the earpiece of the headset, “Yes, that’s it. I must be…” He stood up, trying to imitate a heroic pose, “…A superhero! Crusade for justice, save damsels, fight for world peace! But first, I need the john.”

He returned to the room a few moments later and removed the headset, “I’m betting your some kind of…transformation device. God, if I could just work out the pass code to you.” His wolf symbol flashed again and Scott’s entire body glowed purple. Light spilled from his eyes, mouth and fingertips. The headset returned to his cranium as his muscles enhanced themselves and claws grew from his digits. He suddenly launched himself upwards, smashing a hole open in the roof. He landed on the remains of the roof on all fours, gripping his head in pain.

“What’s happening to me…oh…?”

He fell backwards and his eyes closed.

He reopened his eyes to find himself in some kind of forest. The trees and grass was blue and the sky was purple. A crystal stream flowed beside him. He was wearing purple, baggy trousers and a purple waistcoat made of silk. His feet were in wooden sandals and hanging around his neck was a medal just like the one Lupus had worn. He got to his feet and looked around, “Where am I…hello?”

“Hello young one,” said a voice behind him. Scott turned to see Lupus, alive and well. “Dude!” the boy cried, “You’re supposed to be dead! You died at the train station!” “Nice to see you to,” said Lupus sarcastically, “But enough of that. The Howl Seed has chosen you to do something great young one. You have been endowed with the spirit of the Wolf Explorer, ancient protector of Earth. Those clothes you’re wearing now are his ancient battle garb. In this day and age, you can use your new headpiece, Howler, to transform into the Wolf Explorer, modified for your time.”

“I’m gonna pretend that makes sense,” Scott blinked and turned away. Lupus grabbed him by the arm, “Listen young one, please, the safety of your realm and everybody you love is at stake. You have to use Howler and wolf spirit, I beg of you.”
“But I’m just a normal guy!” Scott protested, “I’m no warrior! Hell! I can barely stand up for myself!” “Scott,” whispered Lupus, “You must fight. Your parents, your brother, your friends, the girl you love, all of them are in danger. You have to fight Rise Night, you have to fight the Black Rise Government. If not for those around you, fight for yourself.” Scott clenched his fists then relaxed and a smile came to his lips, “Okay…I’ll do it.” Lupus smiled back, “Good luck young one, and may the Wolf Explorer’s spirit protect you.” Everything around Scott began to fade as he drifted back to consciousness.

In London, a car spiralled through the air and crashed into the ground, exploding. People ran in fear and children cried. The police were facing down the attacker and fireman attempted to put out the flames of destroyed vehicles and buildings. Rise Nigh aimed his sword at the National Art Gallery, “This will look nice as a pile of ashes.” “Not if we have anything to say about it!” yelled a police officer, “Charge ‘im lads!”
“Brave, but pitiful,” Rise Night swung his sword, sending the heroic officers back, “Do you know how hard it is to take guys in noddy hats seriously?”
“You’ll never hurt the people of England!” another officer cried. Rise Night grabbed him by the neck in a single powerful hand and began to squeeze, “At least your family will know you went down fighting.”

A loud wolf’s howl filled the air, surprising the villain into dropping his captive. Everyone present looked towards Nelson’s Column. Somebody was standing on top of the monument proudly. His face couldn’t be seen, but they could see a flowing ponytail and baggy clothing. Something was clipped to his head.

“What’s this?” Rise Night growled.
“You’ll never hurt anyone again,” growled the newcomer.
“Says who?” the villain sneered.
“Says me!” the newcomer snapped, “And the spirit of the Wolf Explorer!”
