Havoc wreaked on the moon. In her moon palace, Rita Repulsa was busy yelling at her minions for yet another failure. “You idiotic, two-bit, no-brained, pin-headed nitwits! The Rangers were in the palm of my hand and you let them escape!”

Goldar, Scorpina, Squatt, Baboo, and Finster were cowering and attempting to shift the blame away from themselves as usual. “It wasn’t my fault, mistress, I didn’t do anything,” Squatt pleaded.

Baboo slapped him on the head. “You never do anything, that’s why everything we do fails!”

“Be quiet, you two simpletons,” Finster scolded. “Mistress, might I point out that all my creations are perfect. The fault lies squarely with Goldar’s incompetence.”

“Your creations are pieces of junk,” Goldar roared. “Not even I can lead such buffoons to victory. But maybe we’d win once in a while if Scorpina pulled her weight in battle.”

“You lie,” Scorpina shrieked. “I am twice the warrior you’ll ever be!”

Goldar drew his sword in challenge. “Then let us fight to the death right here to prove who is the better warrior.”

“Ohhh,” Baboo exclaimed, “my money’s on Goldar.”

“Silence,” Rita shrieked, then emphasized by shooting a blast from her wand that came within an inch of disintegrating Goldar. The bickering ceased immediately, and all eyes focused silently on Rita. “You dummies are giving me a worse headache than the Power Rangers with your arguing,” she exclaimed. “And they give me galaxy-sized headaches! If only they weren’t around…” Then her face lit up. “That’s it,” she exclaimed. “Earth is a big planet! We’ll simply move to someplace the Power Rangers aren’t!”

“Brilliant, Empress,” Goldar said. “But where will we go?”

“Hmmm….” Rita pondered, “We’ll go to….let’s see….uh….”

“How about the Bahamas,” Baboo asked. “I always wanted to go there,” he added pleadingly.

“Absolutely not,” Rita shouted. “We’re here to destroy the world, not take a cruise.” She looked through her telescope at Earth and continued to think. “Hmm…too cold, even colder, too hot, rent’s too high,” she said, critiquing locations as she continued to gaze upon the earth. “I’ve got it,” she exclaimed after several moments. “That’s it! We’ll go to Japan!” Turning to face her minions, she said “pack your bags, we’re going to Japan!”

In the Command Center, Jason, Trini, Zack, Billy, Kimberly, and Tommy all stood assembled before Zordon. They were all confused as to why Zordon had summoned them. There was no monster attack, so what was going on? Zordon appeared in his time warp and spoke to them. “Power Rangers, thank you for assembling here on short notice. I am pleased to inform you that Rita has abandoned her attacks on Angel Grove.”

The Rangers were exuberant. “I can’t believe this,” Jason, his voice a mixture of relief and wonderment, said as the others erupted in celebration. “The world is safe.”

“I’m afraid I must also share some sad news,” Zordon said solemnly. “Though Rita has abandoned her attacks on Angel Grove, she is still bent on destroying the world. She’s moved her base of operations to Japan.”

“What do we do, Zordon” Tommy asked in a panic.

“I can reconfigure the teleportation system to take us to Japan,” Billy said matter-of-factly, moving towards a control console. “I’ll get right on it.”

“No, Power Rangers,” Zordon said. “You must stay here.”

“But why,” Trini asked, pouting.

“Because this is where you belong,” Zordon replied. “This is not easy for me, either. But it is something that must be done. I thank you for your valiant service as Power Rangers. But the fight is no longer yours to fight. With Rita’s move it comes time for the burden to fall on new shoulders.”

“We trust your judgment, Zordon,” Jason said. Turning to the others, he told them “It’ll be alright, guys.”

“Thank you, Power Rangers,” Zordon said. “I will need your Power Coins and Morphers. Alpha is already at work teleporting the Zords.”

“Can’t I at least keep the stereo,” Kimberly whined.

Zordon ignored her. “Thank you again, Power Rangers. May the Power always protect you. And take heart, for I have one final mission for you.”

“What is it,” Jason asked.

Zordon grinned. “Pack my bags.”

Rita’s palace was a bustle of movement. Everyone-except Rita of course-was busy scurrying around, packing things away and sealing and stacking boxes in preparation for the move. Rita, of course, was criticizing everything. “Goldar, you dolt! Be careful with that box! And Baboo! Turn that box right-side up! Scorpina, don’t stack them so haphazardly! Finster, hurry up and finish stowing away the Monstermatic! Squatt, stop playing and help! Ughhh, just watching you dummies try and pack up gives me a headache!” Finally, after several hours of Rita screaming and bullying while the others tripped over themselves attempting to stow everything away, Rita’s palace was ready for the move. “Well it’s about time,” Rita huffed. “Now grab hold of something because here we go, baby!”

As the others scurried to find something to hold on to, Finster spoke up. “Um, Mistress, might I point out that…”

“Quiet, Finster,” Rita snarled, “You’ll interrupt the moving spell!” Then continuing, she chanted “Oookah lah beh nih ketai,” and then raised her wand to the ceiling. “Jetba ki wa pa, arise palace, and bring us to where I bid you! Now take us to Japan!”

Red light shot out every direction from her wand and lightning crackled throughout the palace as her minions huddled together in fear. The palace rose from its foundations and rocketed across the moon’s surface, clearing it within seconds, and streaked towards Earth. As it entered the atmosphere, it began to glow bright red, and burning chunks fell to the surface. Earth’s gravity accelerated the palace, causing it to go even faster. The palace kept rocketing over the surface, toppling buildings until it came to a stop and landed in downtown Tokyo.

As the dust in the palace settled, Rita brought herself up and surveyed the landscape. “Perfect,” she crackled in delight, “a large city begging to be conquered and not a Power Ranger in sight!”

“Um, mistress…” Finster began timidly.

“What is it, Finster,” Rita snapped.

“Well, it’s that we didn’t have to move the palace to Japan,” Finster informed her. “We could have remained on the moon.”

“Oh,” Rita said. The others groaned.

Halfway across the world, Zordon floated in his time warp, facing the Power Rangers. Alpha stood beside him. “Thank you again for your heroics in defeating Rita time and again Power Rangers. You will always be heroes in my eyes. But now the time has come for the fight to move on. Your Power Coins and Morphers, please.”

One by one, the Rangers handed their Power Morphers over to Alpha, who inserted them into a chest he was carrying. All of the Rangers had mournful looks on their faces. “We’ll miss you, Zordon,” Jason said, speaking for all the Rangers.

“And I will miss you as well,” Zordon replied.

“Ai-yai-yai,” Alpha exclaimed. “My sadness circuits are overloading.”

“Come, Alpha,” Zordon said. “We must be strong.” Looking over at the Rangers one more time, he added “All of us.” Then, looking at Alpha, he instructed “Initiate teleportation process.”

Alpha hit a button on a control console. Zordon’s tube began to glow and crackle with electricity, and then Zordon vanished. Sparing one last look at the Rangers, Alpha said “Goodbye, my friends,” and then vanished as well.

Zordon and Alpha re-materialized in a chamber deep underground beneath Tokyo. The chamber was set up much like the Command Center, with control consoles scattered about, a viewing globe in the corner, and a time warp for Zordon. Status reports on the Zords, which were hidden nearby, were visible on the wall. “Looks like we made it,” Alpha said.

“Indeed,” Zordon replied. “But we must move quickly. We don’t know how much of a foothold Rita has here.”

“Ai-yai-yai,” Alpha shrieked. “We have to find new Rangers.”

“I was just getting to that, Alpha,” Zordon informed the robot. “Calm down. Bring the Power Coins here.”

Obediently, Alpha brought the chest carrying the Power Morphers to Zordon and opened it. Electricity sparked out of Zordon’s time warp and into the coins, and they began to glow their respective colors: red, black, blue, yellow, pink, and green.

“Now then, Power Coins,” Zordon spoke. “The time has come to choose new bearers. Go out and find those who will bear the mantle of the mastodon, pterodactyl, triceratops, saber-toothed tiger, tyrannosaurus, and dragonzord.” The Power Coins began to glow even brighter and lifted out of the chest. After hovering for a few more moments, they shot out of the chamber.

It was a normal day in Tokyo for six schoolgirls, except for one thing: the dark, demonic looking tower that loomed over the buildings far away, casting its shadow over everything for miles around. From their far-off vantage point, the girls stood with their mouths hanging open in shock. “What is that,” exclaimed Chiyo-chan, the eleven-year old, pig-tailed genius of the group.

“I bet it’s a U.F.O.,” Tomo, the hyper one shouted excitedly.

“Don’t be silly,” ridiculed Yomi, the glasses-wearing, serious one, and Tomo’s best friend.

“Looks scary,” said Sakaki, the tall, quiet one.

“Maybe they’re filming a horror movie,” suggested Osaka, the air headed one.

“Not in the middle of downtown,” responded Kagura, the athletic one who considered Sakaki her rival.

Suddenly the girls were interrupted by a rustling in the bushes. Turning around, they were shocked and horrified to see Mr. Kimura, the perverted teacher at their school, pop out. “I know what it is,” he said, with his mouth hanging open as usual. Drool could be seen dripping down his chin. “It is a new love hotel for lovebirds like us. Don’t you want to go?”

“Go away,” the girls screamed in unison, and began to run, with Kimura chasing after them. As they continued to run, six colored streaks of light beamed towards them. The girls didn’t notice the streaks. The streaks hit them, and the girls were teleported away.

Kimura stopped dead in his tracks, staring through his glasses at the space where the girls once were. “Where did you go,” he sobbed. “Come back! Come back!”

The girls appeared in a mysterious, underground chamber. They took in the surroundings in amazement. Consoles were scattered everywhere, a strange globe emitted a glow, an empty tube sat in the back, and on the wall were pictures of what looked like robotic dinosaurs.

“Ha,” Tomo exclaimed. “I told you it was a U.F.O.!”

“Get serious,” Yomi retorted. “There’s no such thing.”

“Then what is this place,” Tomo snapped.

“Well, it’s, umm…” Yomi was unable to find an answer.

“Ha, that settles it,” Tomo laughed. “I’m right!” She began to dance while continuing the chant.

Yomi began to chase Tomo while the others looked on, but activity ceased when a head appeared in the tube! Chiyo-chan screamed and dived for cover.

“Do not fear, humans,” the head reassured them.

“You’re the captain of the U.F.O., right” Tomo asked, pointing.

“I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about,” the head replied. “This is no U.F.O.”

Yomi shot Tomo a superior look. Tomo just glared.

Going on, the head said “My name is Zordon. I am an interdimensional being dedicated to fighting the forces of evil throughout the universe. I have chosen you to save this world from attack.” As he spoke, a robot shuffled into view. “Allow me to introduce my assistant, Alpha 5.”

“Greetings, my human friends,” Alpha stated pleasantly.

The girls’ faces were frozen in shock. “Perhaps the situation needs a bit more explanation,” Zordon said. “Please look at the viewing globe in the corner.”

Their faces still in shocked expressions, the girls turned to the globe and were even more shocked to find themselves staring at the same tower they had been looking at moments earlier! The image zoomed in so they could see inside the tower. On a balcony with a telescope mounted in front, several creatures were visible. One was a woman in brown robes, with a magic wand and headdress. The second was something that looked like a monkey covered in golden armor. Another woman, also covered in golden armor, stood next to it. Off to the right was a small, blue creature, next to it was a taller, darker blue-shaded one that wore a monocle. To the far left was a small, bearded, glasses-wearing creature.

“Behold,” Zordon said, “Rita Repulsa and her minions. They have come to Japan to continue their attempted conquest of Earth.”

“Wait a minute,” Yomi asked. “What do you mean by continue?”

“It is quite simple,” Zordon answered. “She had been trying to take over Earth from her moon-based palace, focusing her attacks on California. After being thwarted by my hand-picked warriors, she relocated here in an attempt to be more successful.”

“Excuse me,” Chiyo-chan stated slowly, “but if her palace was on the moon, why did she need to move it?”

“Ummm….” was all that Zordon could say. Recovering, he went on, “in any case, you six girls have been chosen to be the next generation of warriors that will protect this planet. Now I will bestow upon you the means with which to defend Earth.”

Belts with strange devices that held coins as buckles appeared on the girls’ outfits. “These Power Morphers with their Power Coins will allow you to harness the power of the dinosaurs to combat Rita,” Zordon told them. Looking at Sakaki, he said, “You, Sakaki, shall lead the team as the Red Ranger with the power of the Tyrannosaurus.”

Then, gazing at Osaka, he told her “Osaka, you shall wield the power of the Mastodon as the Black Ranger.”

Turning his gaze to Yomi, he said, “Yomi, you shall use the power of the Triceratops as the Blue Ranger.”

Then looking at Tomo, he stated, “Tomo, you shall have the power of the Saber-toothed tiger as the Yellow Ranger.

To Chiyo-chan, he said “Chiyo-chan, the Pterodactyl will be at your disposal as the Pink Ranger.”

Finally, turning to Kagura, he said, “And Kagura, as Green Ranger you shall command the power of the Dragonzord.”

The girls stood in silence, although Sakaki stared and Chiyo-chan and thought to herself, “She gets pink. She’s so lucky. Maybe she’ll trade?”

Zordon continued to speak, gaining back Sakaki’s attention. “You are now the warriors that will defend Earth from the forces of evil. I dub you the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers.”

“But which is which,” Osaka blurted. Everyone turned to stare at her. “Is morphing mighty or is mighty morphing?”
