It's a five-act movie featuring an entirely new Ranger team by me. Trust me, it'll be finished before Justice is even over!

First, some basic info

This is entirely unannouced. It's another Ranger team I've had in the making for a while, based off of the stage itself. I guess it's another idea. Yet, I don't want to do a 40-episode series for it, so it shall be a one-shot movie. But it will fit into continuity with everything else I've written.

Rangers of the Stage

Act I: The Scene is Set

She knew why she had come here. Joanna Garland was a young girl, about 17. She was walking the cold streets of New York City. It was still early in the spring and the old snow was just beginning to drop off of the new green leaves. She had come here because it was a very special night for her. It was Amateur Night at a theater called Shining Oaks.

The building had been constructed early in the 1920s but almost destroyed. It was thanks to some generous funding by Diamond Dome Records, a company with a good reputation, that they were saved. Joanna had heard about it and decided to go. Maybe she would get her break.

She walked through Central Park and across multiple streets and blocks, each one twisting like a never-ending maze. Within time she eventually reached the small building. It was standing on its own and connected to nothing else. Posters were outside and a marquee read “Amateur Night Tonight: Show Us Your Star Power.”

Joanna entered into the building and tossed aside her yellow coat as her brunette hair fell over her eyes. She walked forth and saw a sign-up table. She got into the back of the line. Since New York had so many people and this was such a night it was an incredibly long line.

“What do you want?” asked the man in front of her. He had black hair and stern gray eyes. A serious look was on his face. Joanna backed off and giggled a little bit. Perhaps she was still adjusting to the building’s warmth.

“I’m just here to sign up,” she answered, “Like you.”
“Yes, but given the sheet music sticking out of your bag, I’d say we’re very different types.” The man answered, “You are a singer. I am a dramatic actor. Tonight I shall do an excerpt from a great play and wow the audience into my grasp. Unless you have command of yourself I doubt you could accomplish the same thing.”
“We’ll just wait for tonight, okay?” Joanna responded, “What’s your name anyway?”
“I’m Michael Cates,” he answered, “Future star and Oscar winner. You will see my name in lights within a year of this performance.” Joanna only rolled her eyes. She walked up to the table after Michael had signed.

“Name please?” the woman asked.
“Joanna Garland,” the girl responded, “I’m going to be singing tonight.”
“Sounds good,” the lady answered, “You will be in the 6:00 group tonight. We expect you here at the end of the day. You can give us any technical aspects that may be needed beforehand and it’s all good.”
“Thank you.” Joanna answered. She walked up and began to exit the theater.

Standing near the door was a girl in pink tights. She had a gym bag in her hand and an exasperated look on her face. She had short blonde hair and red eyes. Joanna walked over to the girl.

“Hello,” she answered, “Are you performing tonight?”
“Well, I would be,” the girl answered, “But I lost my ticket. They won’t let me in without that.” Joanna scanned the floor and saw a small white object almost blending in with the carpet. She handed the ticket to the girl.

“Who are you?” Joanna answered, “It says here on your ticket that you’re in the 6:00 block. Same as I am.”
“Name’s Renee Lake,” the girl answered, “I’m a dancer. Tonight is…”
“I know, the night you become a star,” Joanna answered, “See you!”
“Wait, before you go…” Renee answered, “I’d like you to know something about tonight! It’s who’s hosting!”
“Who?” Joanna turned and asked.
“Kelly Clark. You know, that dancer girl from Ukemi. She’ll be giving us a chance to meet her tonight. Should be awesome.”
“Yeah, it should,” Joanna answered, “See you later.”

Joanna came back to the theater later that night and bumped into somebody backstage. He had brownish-blond hair and was dressed fairly casually. Currently he was flipping through several note cards. Joanna tapped him on the shoulder and inquired what he was doing.

“It’s my routine for tonight,” the man answered, “I’m Jerry Maher, comedian-in-training. And who’s this pretty face?”
“Joanna,” she answered, “So, a comedian, huh? Just don’t mess up out there. After all, there’s nothing worse than bad comedy.”
“You won’t have to worry, miss,” Jerry answered, “I took my training from the best. MST3K, Futurama, Whose Line, Dave Barry and Grudge Match. All of them are greats of comedy. Of course, I’ve got some of my own stuff in there too. Look forward to seeing you tonight.”
“Thanks, Jerry.”

Joanna walked off and came across Renee further down. She was all dressed up for the night in her pink dress. As of that moment she was engaged in a conversation with a brown-haired man.
“So, you think Kelly will like me?”
“She’s got an eye for taste,” the man responded, “Been in two of the best Broadway plays this century. I know.” Joanna asked the man who he was.

“Thank you for inquiring,” the man said, “I am William Spear the Third. I am going to be doing an excerpt from Hamlet tonight. No better way to take the audience than with the classics.”
“Or put them to sleep,” said Jerry, walking over and joking with the rest. Michael Cates came up to the group.
“You, dancer girl,” he said, “I believe it is your turn.”

Out before the audience the girl Kelly Clark stepped on stage. She was wearing a blue dress and had brunette hair that went down to her ears. Blonde streaks ran through it. She picked up the microphone and addressed the audience.

“Welcome to Amateur Night,” Kelly said, “This is a chance for people of all talents to show the world just what they can do. We’ve got some of the top people from around NYC in the audience tonight, so give it your all. Remember that even if you don’t make it, we’re all here to have fun. Now, on with the show!”

Renee performed her dance, Joanna sang her song, Michael and William acted their parts and Jerry’s comedy routine had the audience laughing. The events happened fairly quickly. After all was said and done with the last act for the 6:00 group the members of that block retreated backstage.

“That’s nice, a great job out there,” Joanna commented, “I’ve got some spare cash on me. How about if we all go out for a nice pizza before catching the final act? A celebration you could say.”

“Not yet,” Michael said, “Something caught my eye when we were back here. There is one door that lies open yet no one goes through. I feel that we must explore it if I am to feel complete before my departure.” He looked around and noticed the others were already at the door.

“Quit with the monologue and look already!” Jerry said, “I really don’t think the tile’s that interested.” Michael grumbled something under his breath and followed.

The room was dimly lit. A wooden table with six chairs lay in one corner of the room. The table itself had been overturned and the chairs were left askew. A large symbol was painted on the wall in fading paint. It resembled a large circle. An octagon was in the center of it, and two parallel straight lines ran through the octagon.

A dusty treasure chest lay on the corner of the floor. William opened it up and revealed five masks. They were small, old-style masks that only covered the part of the face on which the nose and eyes were positioned. Each of them picked up one of the masks and tried it on.

William’s was red with two stony-gray square extensions coming off near the ears. Jerry’s was colored blue and had two golden springs at the end. Michael’s was black with two seamed leather extensions. Joanna’s was yellow with two black musical-note shaped extensions. Renee’s was pink with pink ribbons trailing off near the end.

“Really, quite the secret, isn’t it?” William commented, “Masks.”
“It’s kind of fun…” Jerry commented.
“I like it!” Renee exclaimed.
“Boring…” Michael added.
“Mine’s stuck…” Joanna said. The five each tried to pry the masks off their faces, but to no avail. Suddenly the masks began glowing. Each of them launched off its owner’s face and shrunk. Now they were small and plastic. A glass globe formed around them.

“What are these?” Joanna asked. They heard the door creak and Kelly Clark walked in. She stood over the five and spoke one sentence that surprised all of them. None of them expected what she was about to say.

“Well, it looks like we’ve got ourselves five new Rangers…”

Act II: Breaking Through the Fourth Wall

“Can someone explain what’s going on here?” William said, “Rangers? These things? This room?”

“It’s quite the thing,” Kelly said, “From what Diamond Dome has found, these masks were created back in the days of the English Renaissance and have somehow survived to this day. It appears that they were created to stop Lord Blackway, another one of those evil types.

“He lives in the Demonsion. It’s this creepy-alternate-universe that keeps showing up. There is a way for you to access it and stop him, but it all depends if you’re up for it. See that symbol over there?” She pointed to the large seal that had been decorated on the wall.

“That symbol marks it as a rare kind of portal, the Fourth Wall. It’s a breach between this dimension and the Demonsion, that alternate universe I told you about. Those masks hold your powers, but your powers only. Diamond Dome has prepared some basic weaponry just in case you’re ready.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa…slow down.” William interrupted, “Powers?”

“Yeah, Power Rangers,” Kelly said calmly, “I didn’t believe it myself at first. Yet, I am one. You may remember this from a year or two ago.” She took out a small MP3 player with a blue case, “Stage Ready!”

She was now standing in a blue outfit with an oval-shaped helmet. The five gasped in shock before she powered down. Kelly began speaking again.

“I am the Guiding Songstress, the Blue Idol Ranger of the Music Rangers. Due to my love of the stage, I got permission from Simon Prince himself to head up this team. Lord Blackway’s signals have been getting stronger recently. That’s partially why we had Amateur Night tonight. We needed a way to find a new team of hopefuls willing to take on another evil.”

“I’m in.” Joanna said, “I’ve always wanted to make something with my life. This may be the chance. What do we have to do?”

“Those masks have been condensed to a smaller form. So now if you use the call of ‘Spotlight, On! Ranger Power,’ you will transform into the heroes themselves. We have prepared some devices to store them in a safe place.” Kelly came back with five golden belt buckles.

They were clipped around the waists of the five. Renee was the next to speak.
“How serious is this?” she said, “I don’t want to take up too much of my time here.”
“Pretty serious,” Kelly answered, “The Demonsion holds a variety of secrets. It was the breeding ground for Shadowmage monsters, the home of the Fiend Sentai Terror Ranger. Now Blackway is trying to break out. These powers are meant to stop him.”

“Sounds interesting,” Jerry commented, “Just as long as I don’t have to take orders from Mike here. He apparently thinks he’s king of the world.”

“That’s a prop for my skit, you imbecile,” Michael responded, “Fine, I’m in. Might as well receive credit for something. Now what is this ‘gear’ you spoke of?”

“These,” Kelly said as she handed each of them a microphone. The microphones were black with a gray orb on top to speak into. A gold ring, followed by one in the five Ranger colors beneath it, was near the grip. “These Microphones are based off of my own Idol Mic. They have sound attacks built into them and each of you can summon a special weapon from the bottom.”

“Sounds cool enough,” William commented, “I’m in.”
“I am too…” Joanna said, “I trust the rest of you are?”
“I wouldn’t pass this up!” Jerry commented, “A chance for adventure? Count me in.”
“If he’s in, I am,” Renee said as she stepped up holding her orb in hand.
Michael sighed and stood near the others, “Fine, I guess I’m in as well. Let’s just get this over with.”

“Now, that seal marks the wall to your right as a Fourth Wall. To use, it hold your orbs to the wall and watch what happens. It should be enough to open the portal. I won’t be able to pass through it, but I still wish you the best of luck.”

“You can’t come with us?” Renee added, “Why?”
“There are certain ways to get into the Demonsion,” Kelly said, “And Diamond Dome’s tech can’t handle it. Now, get going. Time is running out.”

The five held their orb in hand to the large seal on the wall. In five distinct spots of the circle, five symbols began to glow in the Ranger colors. There was a red symbol shaped like a book, a blue one like an upwards curve, a black downwards curve, a yellow musical note, and a pink symbol that resembled a pair of ballet shoes.

The colors of the five symbols connected together through golden lines and energy began to surge and gust through the room. The octagon in the center of the seal began to reveal another world. One that was decrepit-looking and fearful. A large black stronghold loomed in the distance. After a few minutes the whirling stopped and the portal was open.

The five stepped through. They had passed through the Fourth Wall into this other world, one where things were much different from their own. The street of the desolate city was depressing to look at. Buildings were crumbling beneath a soot-black sky and it appeared they were in the same room they left, looking just as downtrodden as they had left it.

“Let’s check outside…” William said, “Anyplace is better than in here…” they walked out of the room and back onto the stage. Everything seemed to be falling apart in this alternate version of New York. As they walked onto the dim stage they noticed several shadows rise from the audience.

They were translucent humanoid shapes with mysterious pale yellow eyes, and they were called Dimmers. They were the agents of Lord Blackway, and the Rangers’ presence in their universe had been sensed.

“I guess now is when we…morph?” Renee asked.
“No better time than now!” Jerry commented.
“Ready?” William asked in a serious voice.
“Ready!” The five responded. They unclipped their belt buckles and plugged the orbs with the masks into their slots. Energy began to glow in their Ranger colors as they held out the Stage Changer before pressing down on the long horizontal button on top.

“Spotlight, On! Ranger Power!”

The transformation had been initiated.

William is standing on a brightly lit stage with a red curtain behind him. A spotlight shines down on him as a red bolt of energy circles around him and forms a red bodysuit. Gold patches flash on and the helmet materializes as his mask flies onto his face and glows as the energy spreads out into the helmet itself. It has a book-shaped visor on it. The curtain flies open and William strikes his pose.

Jerry is standing on a brightly lit stage with a blue curtain behind him. A spotlight shines down on him as a blue bolt of energy circles around him and forms a blue bodysuit. Gold patches flash on and the helmet materializes as his mask flies onto his face and glows as the energy spreads out into the helmet itself. It has an upward curve-shaped visor on it. The curtain flies open and Jerry strikes his pose.

Michael is standing on a brightly lit stage with a black curtain behind him. A spotlight shines down on him as a black bolt of energy circles around him and forms a black bodysuit. Gold patches flash on and the helmet materializes as his mask flies onto his face and glows as the energy spreads out into the helmet itself. It has a downward-curve shaped visor on it. The curtain flies open and Michael strikes his pose.

Joanna is standing on a brightly lit stage with a yellow curtain behind her. A spotlight shines down on her as a yellow bolt of energy circles around her and forms a yellow bodysuit. Gold patches flash on and the helmet materializes as her mask flies onto her face and glows as the energy spreads out into the helmet itself. It has a music-note shaped visor on it. The curtain flies open and Joanna strikes her pose.

Renee is standing on a brightly lit stage with a pink curtain behind her. A spotlight shines down on her as a pink bolt of energy circles around her and forms a red bodysuit. Gold patches flash on and the helmet materializes as her mask flies onto her face and glows as the energy spreads out into the helmet itself. It has a visor shaped like a pair of ballet slippers. The curtain flies open and Renee strikes her pose.

“Red History!”
“Blue Comedy!”
“Black Drama!”
“Yellow Musician!”
“Pink Dancer!”
“Rangers of the Stage, Power Up!”

They each took out their microphone and used it to ward off the Dimmers. They leapt out into the audience and fought with the shadowy grunts. They appeared to be stronger than usual as they were fighting on their home turf, rather than our world.

“What did Kelly say these things have?” Jerry asked, “Some sort of advanced form?”
“Why not?” Joanna responded, “Weapon Mode, On!” Each of them pressed a button in their color on the side of the microphone. Each of them underwent a transformation.

A silvery-gold blade sprouted from the bottom of William’s. A hammer folded out from the end of Jerry’s, and Michael had an Axe come out. Joanna’s microphone split in half and transformed into a bow. A silvery-gold rod came out of the end of Renee’s and transformed it into a staff.

“Nice,” Michael said, “These things aren’t half-bad.”
“What are we waiting for?” Renee said, “Let’s use them!”
“To Battle!” William commanded.

William’s blade glowed in a bright shade of red as he cut through the Dimmers and cleared a path through the house to the doors that led to the lobby. Jerry used his hammer to send out blue shockwaves and smack the Dimmers, occasionally taking out more than one.

Michael wielded his axe with the proficiency of a skilled fighter. When the blades of the sharp weapon weren’t cutting through the grunts they were blocking from one of their shadowy tendrils.

Joanna and Renee teamed up. The former was learning the finer points of launching out the arrows her weapon held while Renee was going crazy with her staff. She had amazing flexibility to duck and dodge the attacks. Within time, all the Dimmers were finished off from the theater.

The five powered down and walked out into the alternate New York. Their mouths were agape at the sight of it. Not a trace of human life was to be felt in it. Crumbling buildings were around them. They thought they saw a pair of creepy red eyes looking at them from near an alleyway.

It was only the beginning of their exploration of this world. Nothing could train them for this.

Those red eyes had belonged to a creature. It was a lion-like creature with a mane of crackling electricity and jet-black skin. Its name was Bolt Leo. He was an agent of Lord Blackway. Bolt Leo walked into the skyscraper that was, in our world, the Empire State Building. It was the only place in this city of the Demonsion that had a pristine feel to it.

He approached a man in a black business suit. He was wearing a red tie and a deep gray shirt underneath it. He had hair that was cut almost to his head and a pair of soulless, menacing black eyes. This was Lord Blackway. When he stood up it could be seen that a cape flowed across his back.

“Bolt Leo, what news do you bring me?” he asked in a prestigious yet grim voice, “I sensed a disturbance in our world not too long ago.”
“The Fourth Wall has been breached, Lord Blackway,” Bolt Leo responded, “The Rangers are here.”
“I understand,” Lord Blackway answered, “Take them down.”

Act III: I Don’t Want to Wake Up in an Alternate New York

“This is…just wrong.” Joanna commented, “New York is crowded, sure, but even in our world it’s not this bad. Whatever caused this dimension to get this way, I don’t want to know.”
“And we still don’t know who this Lord Blackway guy is,” Michael answered, “He could be anywhere.”
“Now, if I were an evil genius, where would I hide?” Jerry began to say, “Probably somewhere that’s so obvious that people would never expect it was me. So what in New York is glaringly obvious?”
“This isn’t like one of those Saturday-morning TV shows,” Michael said seriously, “We don’t know how anything works here.”
“The only way to find out is to look around,” Renee commented, “I say we go for it.”
“She’s right,” William said, “The sooner we find Blackway, the sooner we get out of here and back to our world. Kelly’s counting on us.”

Joanna stepped forth and tried to hail for a taxi. No car came across the street. Only the sound of dust blowing in the wind could be heard across the empty boulevards. Jerry turned to the others and said “I guess we’ll have to go by foot.”

And so by foot they went. Anything odd or out-of-the ordinary was avoided since the laws of this dimension were uncertain. Something that resembled a car or a fire hydrant could be holding deep, dark secrets. It was after much thought that William voiced an idea.

“There is one place we could try looking,” he answered, “Radio City Music Hall. It seems like the ideal place in this dimension for someone of his villainous nature to be hiding in. You can either take my suggestion or not as I will be going there regardless.” Michael wandered off.

“We can do without him.” William commented, “He thinks he’s better than us anyway. I say, why not let him prove it?”
“But isn’t he also a Ranger?” Joanna asked, “And we have to stick together.”
“Sometimes you have to do it alone,” William said, “Sometimes there is no other way.”

The group sans Michael continued to walk through the alternate New York. When they approached the location that would’ve been Central Park, they saw something very different. It appeared to be a mass graveyard of sorts. A tombstone was visible here and there yet the place still held an incredibly creep aura.

“It seems that the ones we have been told of are here,” a voice screeched from up above, “Now it is time for your final performance!”
“Who are you?” Joanna yelled as she sent a yellow energy bolt from her Microphone, “Show yourself!”

“I…” the voice answered, “I am Ravecrow, a deadly hybrid of two birds of death. It shall be my honor for Lord Blackway to ensure your defeat. Now, if I may, let me call the Dimmers to my aid.”

Several of the shadowy creatures crept up from beneath the ground. William and the others removed their morphers and held them out. Again they provided, if only for a second or two, one of the sole sources of light in this dimension.

“Spotlight, On! Ranger Power!”

They had taken to their new forms and called on their Microphones. The Microphones immediately switched to their Weapon Mode. William slashed away at the grunts until Ravecrow was right within his reach. The blade cut across his wings but didn’t do any damage.

“I’ve got him!” Jerry said. He leapt up into the air and held his Hammer up to the sky. He made one remark before brining it down on the monster’s head.
“Do you know what would happen if I hit you with this Hammerway?”
“What’s a Hammerway?” Ravecrow responded in a confused screeching voice.
“About ten pounds.” Jerry answered. He then slammed the mallet down on the bird’s skull. Ravecrow plummeted toward the earth but then picked himself up as his aerial strike continued.

Joanna readied a yellow energy arrow and fired off the projectiles rapid-speed in Ravecrow’s direction. Only every other arrow or so managed to hit, but the team was making progress in their defeat of him nonetheless. Renee finally leapt in and struck him with her Staff. Ravecrow exploded into a burst of feathers and the Dimmers vanished into the shadows.

“Okay, that’s done with,” William said, “Wonder how Cates is doing?”
“He’s probably handling himself just fine.” Renee stated.

Radio City Music Hall (?)

Michael had walked to the theater earlier. He had gone on his own. Somehow or other, he had to prove himself. That’s why he’d come to New York. Then all of his plans were stopped to an unbreakable halt. Now he was stuck wandering something out of a sci-fi TV show seeking somebody named Lord Blackway.

The door of the Music Hall was rusty but bolted tight. Michael morphed and took out his Axe. He used the weapon to break through the door and enter. The Lobby that was a sight to behold in our world was now a decaying mess. Beams had fallen to the ground, the stairway rails were twisted in unimaginable ways and glass was broken all around.

Michael opened one of the doors and found himself inside the main auditorium. He called out into the empty space, and his voice coldly echoed with every word.

“Hello?” Michael called, “Is there anyone in here? Anybody? At all?”
“There is one person…” answered a deep growling voice, “I am Bolt Leo. Guessing by the power that radiates from your being it seems you hold the power of one of those masks. And you have already activated it. Splendid. Still, it should be my pleasure to finish you for good. Lord Blackway will be pleased.”

“I don’t know who this Lord Blackway is…” Michael growled, “But I shall be the one to stop you.” He charged forth for the electrical lion with his Axe in hand. The weapon was swung in Bolt Leo’s direction but ended up clanging against his claws.

The lion’s natural weapon and Michael’s manmade one rallied against each other and neither side was willing to give up for their cause. Michael then adjusted his right leg and delivered a strong kick to Bolt Leo’s torso before jumping out of the way.

“You are powerful,” Bolt Leo said, “But it shall take more than one man to beat me!” He charged his claws with the crackling lightning bolts and fired them at Michael. With the broad side of his sword out Michael defended from the attacks but with every passing strike he found the projectiles getting stronger and his body becoming more and more tired.

By about the tenth bolt Michael couldn’t take anymore. He powered down to his civilian state. His Mask Orb fell from his belt and had the glass around it shatter. The mask’s energy radiated out into the auditorium and Bolt Leo absorbed it into his mouth.

“I have the power of one of their number,” he answered, “It is a start.” He grasped the unconscious Michael in his claws and slashed across the air with his free hand. A swirling black portal opened up. Bolt Leo had literally split the fabric of this dimension. He stepped through and transported himself to the Empire State Building, which was the headquarters of Lord Blackway.

Back in the City

The team, Ravecrow defeated, had gone searching for Michael. Even William, who knew the regular New York fairly well, had no idea where he could be. When the team was resting near what was Trump Tower, something odd occurred.

They got the same jumpy chill as if Dimmers were in the area, but none were seen. From beneath the ground a shadowy tentacle rose up and snatched Joanna before taking her through a portal not unlike the one Bolt Leo had used. Jerry noticed that the shadow was streaking in the direction of the Empire State Building, and thus the remaining three raced for the tower.

They had found Lord Blackway.

Empire State Building/Lord Blackway’s HQ

Michael and Joanna were both sitting down. They had no choice as they were bound to the chairs they had been placed on. Michael was the first to speak.

“They got you too?”
“I didn’t even know you were taken,” Joanna said, “Why didn’t you contact us?”
“You think I had the time to think of that?” Michael said, “I was being taken by an electric lion. Your brain just doesn’t work quick enough in those kinds of situations.”

The door creaked and Lord Blackway walked into the room. His very presence was like Darth Vader, chilling the souls of all near when he entered. He spoke to the gathered two members of the amateur Ranger team.

“Black and Yellow,” he said, “You are in my grasp now. I wonder what Miss Clark found in you that was so appealing? Wonder what abilities I shall take. Drama? Please. If I wanted to see someone who takes things way too seriously I could have pilfered the Emo Rangers long ago. And Music? Tsathoggua, Ooze, Abominus…all have tried against it, and I refuse to associate myself with anything of the sort. But, powers are powers…and time is running out before your friends get to you. Your world shall be mine in time.”

ACT IV: The Great Blackway

“This is the place,” Jerry said tiredly, “He took her here. It looks like the Empire State, but it doesn’t feel like it.”
“Just like everything else in this world,” Renee added, “Any idea what floor they’re on?”
“My best guess would be the 86th floor – the observatory,” William said, “Where else for a villain of his caliber to make a dramatic speech before letting the heroes fall to their doom? We’d better get going.”

They opened the door and stepped into the interior of the building. It was a bit of a hassle to find the elevators, but the three did in time. That is, until Bolt Leo tore open another portal and appeared before them.

“So it seems the rest of you have gathered,” Bolt Leo growled, “I’m willing to let you challenge me – if you can follow where I’m leading you to…” With a roar from his mouth several portals tore open. The lights dimmed and the three looked around. When they had returned to what mite of a glow they had before Bolt Leo had vanished.

“There are five portals,” Jerry said, “Pick a path, any path. We just have to choose where to go.” He placed his foot into the second one right of the center. His foot was tossed back out into the empty building.

“Okay, that’s a dud,” William said, “A trick, a joke passageway that leads back to where it began. There are three of these portal things left, and I suggest we each take one and then meet back here if it doesn’t lead to where we wish to go.”

“Right!” Jerry and Renee responded. Jerry took the second portal to the left of the center, Renee took the first portal to the right, and William went with the center portal itself. They could feel the cold smoky air blowing around their bodies as they were tossed through these portals and landed in places that were even more unfamiliar than the alternate New York City.

William was tossed out onto a place where the ground and sky were terra cotta-colored, not unlike Mars. He saw stone walls and gnarled iron gates around him. A large black castle with five-clawed silver feet lay in the background. He walked over to one of the walls and noticed an inscription on the bricks.

“Transylvania,” William remarked, “Sure doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever heard about it…” he looked on the ground and saw dozens upon dozens of machine parts littering the ground, and the silvery shell of a gargoyle-like creature was also barely present.

“This definitely isn’t the place,” William answered. He stepped back though the portal, but didn’t notice the brightly glowing red-and-black flame in the corner. It had been going for a long time, before he got there. It wasn’t until later in his life that William would see that flame again. From Flight of the Black Demon (Kaiju Sentai Horaranger Movie). And that flame? It's there to set things up for my last fanfic project, after Justice, West, Ancient Warriors, Ocean Fleet, and Fire Sentai Islandranger. More of my story interconnected-ness

Jerry had passed through his portal and arrived in a dark plane. Monsters of all sorts were present but none noticed him. A small point of light that may or may not have been a star was visible on the northern horizon. The sighting of a castle somewhere made him think that this possibly may have been in England.

No matter what it was, he knew that he was in the wrong place. Jerry stepped back through the portal and landed back in the Empire State Building.

Renee’s portal had taken her to another place entirely. She was in a street in the middle of a city, but it wasn’t New York. Even more surprising was that the city was underwater. Somehow she could breathe. Renee walked through and noticed the crumbled structures. More eerie eyes stared in her direction as she carefully passed through the watery roads.

When all was said and done the girl came to the conclusion that this wasn’t her place and stepped back through the portal Bolt Leo had made. A sign fell to the ground as she left. It read “Neptunia.”

The three gathered back in the lobby. They were scared, wet, and exhausted from this journey altogether but knew what they were doing. With a quick nod the trio leapt into the final portal and followed Bolt Leo. They were now on the observatory of the building. There they saw Blackway, Bolt Leo, and their friends.

“Well, look who’s decided to show up,” Blackway said as he held two orbs in his hands, “I have Mr. Cates’ and Miss Garland’s powers in my hands. I’d like to see you try and get them.” A binding black cage of energy encircled around the orbs.

Renee raced to untie her friends while Jerry and William took on Bolt Leo unmorphed. Michael and Joanna had been freed but they still had to get their powers. Bolt Leo was sending out sparks of electricity in their direction, and on the square observatory there was only so much room to maneuver.

The team still had their Microphones usable. Michael, Jerry, and William were launching off sound attacks in Bolt Leo’s direction. When he had been backed up far enough the trio initiated their weapon modes. Michael and William cut through the steel guardrails that were near the edge of the observatory.

“Right, like I’m going to fall for that one,” Bolt Leo taunted, “What do you think I am, an idiot?”
“No, we just think you’re a pain,” Jerry said before he calmly delivered a strong smack to Bolt Leo’s stomach with his Hammer. The Lion toppled over the edge and an explosion could be heard from the ground below.

Blackway turned to the others.
“May as well make this fight fair,” he said as he opened the orb containing Joanna and Michael’s powers, “Go ahead, morph. What is there you can do that would be able to defeat me anyway?”

“Let’s go!” William commanded, “Orbs in, morphers ready!”
“Spotlight, On! Ranger Power!”

Light surrounded the four as they took on their Ranger forms. The Microphones were switched to Weapon Mode and the five began to take on Blackway. Joanna launched off arrows of yellow energy but he blocked them with his hands alone.

William charged in his direction and Blackway summoned his own sword of pure black energy. The two clashed together. Jerry tried to sneak up behind him but found his body being shot back by the energy that was emanating from the area around the Red Ranger and the mysterious Lord Blackway.

The clashing of the dim energy and William’s shining silvery-gold sword continued on. Eventually the energy became so strong that it lifted both of their feet off of the ground. They hovered in the air on the force of their attacks alone. Blackway let his weapon dissolve as William began to fall to the ground.

Renee leapt into the air and caught him for a safe landing. The five now stood once more before the man. Blackway climbed onto the railing and began to slide around with perfect balance and relative ease. He taunted the five while he did so.

“You couldn’t do this without falling to the ground,” Blackway said, “I am a master of special effects and illusions and I highly doubt there is anything you could do to beat me.”

“No, but there is one thing…” William said, “Release Final Attacks!”

“Finishing Cut of Ages!” William commanded as a red blade of energy projected out from the end of his sword. Blackway was grazed in the shoulder by the attack and began to tremble a little bit.

“Shockwave of Surprise…” Jerry said as he slammed his Hammer down into the floor of the building. The blue waves crashed against the stone and began to make several small cracks appear.

“Hack of Defeat,” William said as he swung his Axe in Blackway’s direction. Now he was starting to teeter over the edge. No cars drove across the empty city streets but as Bolt Leo had proved even a slip was dangerous.

“Arrow of Song!” Joanna declared as a yellow energy arrow streaked out of her Microphone’s Bow.

“Graceful Strike!” Renee added while pounding the guardrail with her Staff. Blackway fell over the edge and tumbled into the dark abyss. The Rangers heard an explosion…but this one sounded different from Bolt Leo’s. They looked onto the streets and saw no sign of Blackway.

They exited the Empire State Building, returned to the alternate Shining Oaks Theater and passed back through the Fourth Wall. They powered down and saw Kelly waiting for them.

“You let it happen…I must have forgotten…” Kelly sighed, “How could I make such a mistake?”
“What happened?” Michael asked.
“You forgot to close the Fourth Wall when you entered into the Demonsion,” Kelly said, “Blackway’s back in monster form in our world. That’s not a good sign. Had you defeated him with the portal closed all would be done with now.”
“There must be a way…” Joanna said, “There has to be.”
“Maybe there isn’t,” Renee said, “Maybe we failed.”
“Never say never,” Jerry commented, “What about those…Zord things?”
“Megazords?” William asked, “Do we have one?”
“You do,” Kelly said, “You’re standing in it now. What I’m unsure of is if it will work.”

TO BE CONCLUDED…

ACT V: Megazords and the Final Performance

“Megazords?” William asked, “Do we have one?”
“You do,” Kelly said, “You’re standing in it now. What I’m unsure of is if it will work.”
“You mean this entire building is…” Jerry began before he stopped speaking out of pure amazement, “Can a single thing turn into a Megazord?”
“Most of the first ones were like that and many still do today,” Kelly answered, “The Megazord Control Panel is hidden on the stage itself. I can head to the tech booth and activate it. The theater’s entirely vacant after Blackway arrived so it should be no problem.”

“I say we get this started,” Michael said, “I’ve heard of what Rangers have done before. If they can handle it, I’m sure a bunch of new guys like us can.”
“Now that’s the kind of team player I was talking about,” Renee said as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
“Megazord Time!” Jerry declared.

The five and Kelly walked back onto the stage. Kelly took her place in the booth backstage that controlled the lighting, sound and various other aspects. She flipped a couple of switches and activated a couple of buttons. A whirring was heard on the stage. Five podiums with electronic control panels rose up on the stage. In the front of each podium was a circle in the Ranger colors with the five symbols glowing on it.

The team powered up and placed their Microphones into the circular slot that was present on the panel. They pressed a gold button located beneath the control panel and another cacophony of whirring, clanking and grinding was heard in the theater. Outside, the people who weren’t running away were experiencing a sight that, when seen, is something to behold. It was the genesis of a new Megazord.

The theater has the marquee retract inside and replace itself with golden panels. The entire building then lifts itself out of the ground and reveals two rocket boosters on the back of it, which before were hidden underground. The boosters and part of the stage fold down to become legs as the entrance breaks apart and folds out to become a pair of arms. A back part of the building lowers itself to form a chest plate with the dark gold “S” insignia. The Megazord’s head rises forth as lights in the five Ranger colors shoot out from the building to create a magnificent sword. The Megazord poses on the streets.

“Stage Megazord!” the five announced. The newly created robot stepped towards the monstrous Blackway and held out its blade. Blackway fired off his trademark pale black bolts of energy. The bolts began to gather on the sword before being flung to the heavens.

The Megazord then strapped its sword behind its back and delivered a punch to Monster Blackway. He stumbled back a little bit onto the street. The sword was unsheathed once more.

The blade began to ignite with a bright golden light and cut across Monster Blackway’s torso. A glowing gash was left where the weapon had struck him. The Stage Megazord advanced forward once more.

Blackway held out his hands and summoned a large sphere of the dim energy that was slowly starting to spread from the gash on his body. He tossed the sphere, which had a tail of black smoke behind it, in the direction of the Megazord.

The Megazord’s sword slashed through the air and sent the ball back at Blackway. He tried to defend against his own energy but the small tinges of gold light that were on it made that near impossible. Kelly radioed the five from the tech room of the theater.

“Finish him off, now!”
“Got it!” William answered.
“Stage Megazord, FINAL ACT SLASH!” the five commanded as the Megazord’s sword ignited with golden energy. It cut through Blackway’s body and left him as a mass of black smoke. An explosion sounded out from the center of the city once the sword had finished its swipe. The mist that had been Blackway slowly dissolved away until it rocketed back through the Fourth Wall, which the Rangers sealed posthaste.

And so with that the theater returned to its normal state, and the next night Amateur Night was running again. The five who had been through the whole ordeal with Blackway had relegated themselves to the audience for tonight and enjoyed the performances that came their way. Once the night had drawn to a close they walked up to Kelly.

“We were wondering,” Michael said, “What should we do with these?” The five held out their morphers and Microphones.
“I’ll keep them for now,” Kelly said, “Diamond Dome has a special safe where we can store them. I must say, you didn’t do too badly for someone new to the Ranger game.”
“Thanks,” Renee shrugged, “We try.”
“And when we don’t, Michael here makes sure we do!” Jerry joked, “But seriously, it was nice.”
“I guess we may need these powers again sometime?” Michael asked.
“Who knows?” Kelly answered, “Oh, and there’s someone else I’d like you to meet.”

A red-haired boy wearing a red shirt and black jacket walked up, and beside him was an older man in a gray shirt. Kelly introduced them as Clay Ashton and Simon Prince. The team were surprised that they were getting a chance to see them.

“Nice job,” Simon complimented, “Guess Kelly was right when she knew this would be the best way to recruit a Ranger team.”
“So, did you see anything strange in the Demonsion?” Clay asked, “I’ve heard legends about it, but…”
“We saw a lot,” William answered, “But thank goodness that’s done with.”
“Indeed it is,” Simon told them, “Now, go out and enjoy the city. The night is young and you deserve a break.”
“Thank you,” Joanna said as she began to head through the door, “Who was Blackway, anyway?”
“We’re still not sure,” Simon answered, “still, an evil averted is an evil averted.’
“Okay, got it,” Joanna answered. She and the rest exited out the door and walked out into the streets of New York.

Joanna now knew why she had come here. It was to do something to make herself known, and if saving the city wasn’t it, perhaps it would be something else. The night was young.
