HEAVY METAL RANGERS

01. THE PRELUDE

Opening Theme: ‘Everything Louder Than Everything Else’ by Meat Loaf

In a pub somewhere on East Ham High Street, a four member band finished setting up their instruments on the stage. The Ruskin Arms had a history for being the haunting grounds of new bands before they became famous. Even Iron Maiden played here a couple of times before they become the most infamous metal band on the Earth.

Corey Logan ran his fingers through his shaggy blonde hair, holding it back and affixing his red bandanna. He then ran his tongue along the bottom of his mouth to ensure his jaws were fully functioning. Corey was a strong boy of 19 with his long hair reaching his shoulders and his dark, captivating eyes. The only one with facial hair, Corey had stubble on his chin. He was dressed in a baggy white ‘Guns ‘N’ Roses’ shirt and possibly oversized red combats that semi-covered his black boots. Around his right wrist was a single studded cuff. As the barman served drinks to the awaiting bar-goers, Corey turned his attention to the other band members.

Tre Derbyshire, youngest at only 17 but as skilled as the others, had a mop of jet black hair and blue eyes, dressed in a baby blue T-Shirt and faded jeans with beaten Nikes. The only real jewellery he had was the small silver stud in his ear. He was sitting behind the drum kit with the band logo printed on it.

Steve Richards was a giant of a man while being no older than Corey. He stood taller and more muscular than the others and had dusty blonde hair in spikes, complementing his downcast, hazel eyes. He was dressed in similar clothing to Corey but the trousers fit him better and were a dark mustard colour. In his hands was a bass guitar with a rose painted on the body.

Finally there was Debbie Escobar. Corey smiled as he looked at what Tre referred to as ‘his main squeeze’. Debbie had beautiful dark auburn hair in a single braid to the right with pink streaks through it, her green eyes seeming to pierce the soul. She was dressed in a pink tube top lined with black with a pair of black jeans and Adidas trainers. She had a studded belt, a studded cuff on both wrists and around her neck was a silver pendant shaped like a teardrop. In her hands was her pink-and-black double-neck guitar.

Corey looked back to the audience before speaking, “Well, thank you Ruskin Arms, let’s get this show on the road. 1, 2, 3, 4!” The band broke out into a tune and Corey began to sing. The song, a definite punk piece called ‘Chocks Away’ roused a small level of applause. Not much, but enough to let the band know that people were listening. When the small ‘concert’ was over, the band made their way back stage in near-low spirits.

“I can’t believe it,” Tre whined, “Not even half of the people out there liked us.” “What do you expect from a pub like this Tre?” Steve asked with his eyebrow raised to the younger boy. Tre slumped into a chair, “Face it…we suck.” “Dude!” Corey glared at him, “Try and show some optimism will ya?! Maybe we’d be doing better if you stopped putting down our work!”
“We’re hardly the next big thing Corey,” Debbie stepped in, “Even I have to say that we’re going nowhere.” “Oh not you to Debbie love,” Corey groaned, putting his palm to his forehead, “Fine…we’re not going anywhere, happy?”

“I beg to differ,” said a voice. The band members turned to see a tall man with a chiselled smile, dark shades of his eyes and long black hair fixed in a very neat ponytail. He was dressed in a black business suit.

“Oh my God!” Corey gasped, “John Wallace – head of New Age Records!” “The same,” John replied, “I had a feeling I’d found someone good around here – after all, Iron Maiden took some of their first steps here.” “But what do you want with us?” Steve asked quietly. “I want to offer you an opportunity,” John replied, his smile widening slightly, “I think you have what it takes.” The band members looked at each other with wide grins plastered over their faces.

“I take it you’re in then?” John asked. “Definitely!” Tre stated. “I’m in,” Debbie smiled. Steve smiled a little bit and raised a thumbs-up. Corey shook John’s hand firmly, “We’re in Mr. Wallace.” “Please, call me John,” the older man replied.

Meanwhile, far away from all this, deep within the Moon, three people were knelt before a grey casket with a hideous face carved into it. The face seemed to have fangs in its open mouth and its hair a mop of serpentine coils. Its eyes lacked pupils that made the image no less threatening. The room around them resembled some kind of temple made from finely carved black rock, purple velvet curtains affixed in place over the room’s exits at regular intervals down the walls. At the head of the room, behind the casket, was a grey throne with the same face carved into its head and several coil designs around the arms.

“It is time,” said a young woman who had light grey skin, a shock of white hair and black patterns on her cheeks below her crystalline eyes. She was dressed in a fine, black dress that showed a deal of her cleavage, her arms covered by long black gloves. In the centre of her forehead was a black diamond. “It is time,” she repeated as she stood up, “To awaken our lord and master once more.”

“Right,” said a tall man who was even paler than the woman, his left eye covered by a monocle. His uncovered eye was dark brown and surrounded by thick, black eyeliner. His jet black hair was cropped neatly and his teeth looked silver. His clothing consisted of a black tuxedo and top hat, his left hand covered by a black glove.

“Yes,” the third and final person nodded in agreement. He was taller than the woman but shorter than the tuxedo-clad man. His skin was mildly pale but retained some colour, his black-rimmed eyes a dark blue colour. His shaggy, black hair reached his shoulders. His clothing consisted of a black vest, black trousers, black boots, a belt with a demon-head buckle and a long, black leather coat over the top.

The three raised their hands and a black beam ejected from each of them, hitting the casket. The eyes of the image began to glow purple and cracks made their way around the casket, purple light spilling out. It exploded into a million fragments, the demonic trio raising their arms defensively. When the smoke and light cleared, they revealed an orb of purple light that made its way to the throne, settling down on it.

The orb dissipated to reveal a tiny form barely 2ft in height. Dressed in a dark purple robe, the child had a mop of dark purple hair and lavender skin. Purple eyes peered out of his sneering face. The child stood up on the throne and cried out, “Ladies and gentlemen…the Ooze is back!”

The boy’s obvious followers saluted, “All hail Ivan Ooze! King of all we see! Future king of all there is!” “Yes,” Ivan grinned sickeningly, “And now…it’s time my followers, time to conquer the Earth!” His malicious laughter rang out through the many black-and-purple halls of the subterranean realm. The most powerful evil in the universe had returned, this time to stay…

Closing Theme: ‘The Young Ones’ by Cliff Richard

Next time on Heavy Metal Rangers…
Ivan Ooze has cheated death for the second time in a row and now he has his own followers to aid him in his evil plot. The evil witch Dani creates a monster and now John Wallace must choose four individuals to take control of a powerful force…
It’s all in the next episode of Heavy Metal Rangers: The Rebirth.

02. THE REBIRTH

Opening Theme: ‘Everything Louder Than Everything Else’ by Meat Loaf

John Wallace sat behind his desk at the New Age Records building in Basildon. The building could be seen anywhere. It was tall and covered in silvery paint which made it shine beautifully. Set on the roof, held up by four silver legs, was what looked like a silver flying saucer with a red shining band around it. Nobody really knew what this attachment was for but they guessed it may have been either storage or transmissions.

Both assumptions were completely wrong.

John heard his intercom beep and a female voice said, “The Pinnacle are here for you sir.” “Send them in Shelly,” John replied. The intercom buzzed off and after a few moments, the door of the office opened. The man smiled as the four-member band entered the room, each of them looking rather content.

“You look pleased to be here,” said John. “Believe me, we are,” Corey replied. John stood up, “Guys, I’m working on arranging your first big tour and it should be started soon. We’ve also managed to gain a van for the four of you between tour locations.” “Awesome!” Tre declared, throwing both fists into the air. “You realise this means you may have to increase the amount of practise you do,” John warned. “We can handle it,” Debbie replied.

Suddenly, the sounds of explosions and laser fire filled the air. Fire and smoke belched upwards from below and down below, people were screaming. John and the band ran to the great windows of the office, staring in shock at what was happening below. Grotesque, purple-skinned beings with purple dreadlocks and armour-like flesh were pursuing citizens and running amuck. “No!” John growled, “It’s started!”
“What’s started?” Corey asked.
“…Ivan Ooze has returned,” John whispered, “Listen, this will sound crazy, but I’ve been watching you longer than you think. I know you each took a course in martial arts, I know Corey still studies Tai Kwon Do. I have something for you.”

The band watched as John reached into a draw on his desk, pulling it open to reveal four black devices that vaguely resembled portable CD players. They were lined with silver and had a logo an ‘HM’ logo imprinted on the top. “What are those?” Tre asked, bewildered. “These are the CD Morphers,” John explained, “You’ll need to listen to what I’m going to tell you…10 years ago, Ivan Ooze attempted to invade Earth but was defeated by a group called the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, it was prophesized that he would one day return…now he has. I will give you the entire story later but now you have to go down there, use these CD Morphers to defeat the monsters below.

“You’re crazy!” Debbie exclaimed. “I’m in,” Corey said, taking one of the CD Morphers, “How do I use this?” “Call out for a Power Disc,” John explained, “Insert it into the Morpher and say, ‘Rock On!’.”
“Corey, what are you doing?!” Steve demanded, “You can’t believe this rubbish can you?” “Why not?” Corey asked with a raised eyebrow, “If John’s telling the truth, he’s telling the truth. If he’s lying, we’ll sue him for putting us in danger. Guys, I don’t think it’s a trick. We have to help in any way we can.” Tre, Steve and Debbie looked at each other before they all took a CD Morpher and left the room.
“Good luck,” John whispered.

Down below, the four now stood before the oncoming, burbling monsters. “Move it brats!” the obvious leader of the monsters growled, “You can’t beat us Oozemen.” “We can try,” Corey smiled slyly, “Ready everyone?”
“Ready!” his companions nodded.
“Power Disc!” they all cried and raised their right hands, coloured CDs appearing in their grasps. They inserted them into the CD Morphers, which were now attached to their belts, and slammed the devices shut.

“ROCK ON!”

Corey was standing on a stage at night, two columns of red light spouting up on either side of him. He stood in a star position as two rings of red light surrounded his mid-section, moving in opposite directions. As the rings passed over, Corey was coated in a jumpsuit with a red torso, white legs and red sleeves. On the right side of his chest was a white ‘HM’ symbol. Over his hands and feet were white gloves and boots lined with gold. The red columns came together over him and there was a flash. When it faded, Corey was revealed to be wearing a red helmet with a white musical note symbol on the forehead and a black visor lined with gold. Pinnacle Red posed as everything around him turned black and a microphone-shaped red symbol flashed behind him.
Tre was standing on a stage at night, two columns of blue light spouting up on either side of him. He stood in a star position as two rings of blue light surrounded his mid-section, moving in opposite directions. As the rings passed over, Tre was coated in a jumpsuit with a blue torso, white legs and blue sleeves. On the right side of his chest was a white ‘HM’ symbol. Over his hands and feet were white gloves and boots lined with gold. The blue columns came together over him and there was a flash. When it faded, Tre was revealed to be wearing a blue helmet with a white musical note symbol on the forehead and a black visor lined with gold. Pinnacle Blue posed as everything around him turned black and a drum kit-shaped blue symbol flashed behind him.
Steve was standing on a stage at night, two columns of yellow light spouting up on either side of him. He stood in a star position as two rings of yellow light surrounded his mid-section, moving in opposite directions. As the rings passed over, Steve was coated in a jumpsuit with a yellow torso, white legs and yellow sleeves. On the right side of his chest was a white ‘HM’ symbol. Over his hands and feet were white gloves and boots lined with gold. The yellow columns came together over him and there was a flash. When it faded, Steve was revealed to be wearing a yellow helmet with a white musical note symbol on the forehead and a black visor lined with gold. Pinnacle Yellow posed as everything around him turned black and a bass-shaped yellow symbol flashed behind him.
Debbie was standing on a stage at night, two columns of pink light spouting up on either side of her. She stood in a star position as two rings of pink light surrounded his mid-section, moving in opposite directions. As the rings passed over, Debbie was coated in a jumpsuit with a pink torso, white legs and pink sleeves, a pink skirt below the waist. On the right side of her chest was a white ‘HM’ symbol. Over her hands and feet were white gloves and boots lined with gold. The pink columns came together over her and there was a flash. When it faded, Debbie was revealed to be wearing a pink helmet with a white musical note symbol on the forehead and a black visor lined with gold. Pinnacle Pink posed as everything around her turned black and a guitar-shaped pink symbol flashed behind him.

“The Rebellious Singer – Pinnacle Red!”
“The Smashing Drummer – Pinnacle Blue!”
“The Rocking Bassist – Pinnacle Yellow!”
“The Beautiful Guitarist – Pinnacle Pink!”

“Heavy Metal Rangers!” the four heroes posed together as a multi-coloured explosion erupted behind them.

The Oozemen jumped up then ran at the heroes. “Sound Blaster!” Pinnacle Red charged forward, reaching for the right hip-mounted gold holster on his belt and pulling out a blast pistol weapon with a silver grip and silver ‘HM’ on the barrel. Squeezing the trigger, Pinnacle Red sent a flurry of red energy bursts into the enemies, downing three of them. Pinnacles Blue and Pink jumped into the air, bringing out their own Sound Blasters and twisting the bodies up, allowing long, thin rods to extend from the barrels.

“Sound Batons!” they declared, bringing their weapons down on two more Oozemen and knocking them unconscious. Pinnacle Yellow merely allowed his share of enemies to run at him only to be thrown into the air by the most powerful Ranger. “Kiss and make up,” Pinnacle Yellow grabbed two Oozemen by the necks and lifted them above his head, smashing their heads into each other. He then grabbed a stunned Oozeman and spun it around, knocking away a few more. Six Oozemen surrounded Pinnacle Red and began to close in.

“Let’s kick it up a notch,” the hero smirked behind his visor and raised his right hand, “Phonic Sword!” His microphone appeared in his hand then in a red flash, was replaced by a new weapon. The body of the microphone had turned red with three white buttons down one side and a gold rim at the top. The head was gone completely, replaced by a 3ft long silver blade. Pinnacle Red posed with his new weapon and began cutting down the six surrounding monsters.
“Drum Hammer!” Pinnacle Blue shouted and his drum kit materialised in front of him then vanished, replaced by a white handle leading up to a blue-and-gold head that vaguely resembled a drum. The young warrior slammed the hammer into the ground, creating a shockwave that sent an Oozeman flying through the air towards Pinnacle Yellow, who looked as if he were holding a guitar.
“Bass Saw!” Pinnacle Yellow cried and his bass guitar flashed into his hands than was replaced by a yellow bass that was half opened at the back, the wielder’s arm inside. The neck was replaced by a chainsaw blade that was buzzing to life, slicing through the oncoming Oozeman.
“Guitar Rifle!” Pinnacle Pink held up her guitar which suddenly became pink-and-gold, its twin heads replaced by pink barrels. Pinnacle Pink strummed and a burst of fire launched from the upper barrel, incinerating two Oozemen.
This fighting went on for a short while until the Oozemen were disposed of. “I think that’s the last of them,” said Pinnacle Red, resting his sword across his shoulders. “This is too awesome,” Pinnacle Blue smiled, “These powers are so…cool! I’m nearly exhausted yet I’ve never felt so alive!” “Me neither,” Steve panted, looking at the bladed weapon over his right arm, “And these weapons are amazing…”

“That not end of it Metal Rangers!” a gruff voice shouted. The heroes spun around to face the newcomer – a muscular beast that resembled a bright orange gorilla. “What the Hell are you…?”

“Me Ape Face,” the gorilla introduced himself loudly, pounding his chest, “Now me squish you like bugs!” “Get ready guys,” Pinnacle Red spoke lowly to his team, “Because things just got worse.” The Heavy Metal Rangers prepared themselves as Ape Face ran headlong towards them.

Closing Theme: ‘Revolution’ by Judas Priest

Next time on Heavy Metal Rangers…

03. THE BEAST

Opening Theme: ‘Everything Louder Than Everything Else’ by Meat Loaf

“Me Ape Face,” the gorilla introduced himself loudly, pounding his chest, “Now me squish you like bugs!” “Get ready guys,” Pinnacle Red spoke lowly to his team, “Because things just got worse.” The Heavy Metal Rangers prepared themselves as Ape Face ran headlong towards them.

Pinnacle Red pressed the top button on his Phonic Sword’s grip and sliced the air, “Sonic Wave!” The hero leader slashed the Phonic Sword across then down, sending two lines of red energy forward, hitting Ape Face and forcing the monster to step back. Ape Face roared and stamped around before jumping into the air, coming down towards Pinnacle Yellow. The strongest Ranger met Ape Face as he descended and the top began to grapple. “Two words for ya!” Pinnacle Yellow snarled, “Spearmint Polo!” He brought his back up into Ape Face’s stomach but did nothing against the thick skin. “That tickle,” Ape Face chuckled and picked up Pinnacle Yellow, throwing him into Pinnacle Blue.

The two downed warriors jumped up, summoning their weapons once more.

“Bass Saw!” Pinnacle Yellow slashed across the monster’s chest and landed behind him. “Drum Hammer!” Pinnacle Blue whacked the monster across the head, using that as a prop to propel himself up and land a double kick into Ape Face’s back. The monster stumbled and collapsed for a moment then stood up, turning his furious attention on the Rangers.

“Me kill you!” he screamed, pounding his chest again. In one throw, he landed a devastating punch on Pinnacle Pink, sending her spinning into a building. “Debbie!” Pinnacle Red watched in horror, running towards his girlfriend. Pinnacles Blue and Yellow drew their Sound Blasters, opening fire. Ape Face stomped the ground, sending out a rumble that knocked both warriors over. “This is harder than I thought,” Pinnacle Blue muttered. “Ape Face pulverise!” the monster kicked Pinnacle Blue hard, sending him through a brick wall.

Pressing the top button again, Pinnacle Red sent out another Sonic Wave that knocked Ape Face to his knees. The leader turned his attention to Pinnacle Pink, lifting her head up off the ground, “Debbie? You ok?” Pinnacle Pink groaned behind her visor before forcing herself up, “I’m…I’m fine…come on. Let’s finish off this Mighty Joe Young reject.” “Me squish Metal Rangers!” Ape Face punched Pinnacle Yellow in the chest, lifting the warrior off the ground and sending him sailing through the air. The four soldiers regrouped.

“I have an idea,” Pinnacle Red looked to his teammates, “Follow my lead.” He raised his right hand, “Sound Bazooka!” As if a secret alarm alerted them, the other Rangers took their positions. Pinnacle Blue knelt down and Pinnacles Yellow and Pink stood at either side of Pinnacle Red, who took a step back. In a flash, a black-and-silver cannon descended from above. It had two, silver fin-like protrusions on the sides, a black grip beneath both which Pinnacles Yellow and Pink took hold of. It had two long, black barrels which Pinnacle Blue held above his shoulder. On the top was a vertical, four-piece siren with individual sections of red, blue, yellow and pink separated by white. On the back was a slot.

“Sound Bazooka, power up!” the heroes declared as Pinnacle Red slid the blade of his Phonic Sword into the slot and pressed the middle button on the blade. The four sirens flashed brightly and the sword twisted like a key.
“Concert Nightmare!” they shouted and the barrels fired a stream of crimson energy blasts, hitting Ape Face directly. The monster bellowed as he exploded into a million fragments.

In the moon, Ivan Ooze was unhappy. He slammed his tiny fists against the throne as he saw Ape Face exploding on a crystal ball. “Dani!” he screamed, “Make my monster grow!” The grey-skinned woman, Dani, raised her hands, a vial of purple liquid appearing in her grasp. The vial vanished.

On Earth, the vial of purple liquid appeared in the air and poured its contents over the remains of Ape Face before shattering. The fragments were covered by purple slime and pulled together, forming a now giant version of Ape Face, towering over the city. “Now me step on Rangers!” the gorilla boomed, attempting to stomp the heroes underfoot.

“How are we supposed to fight that thing?!” Pinnacle Blue snapped. “Rangers!” said the voice of John. “John?” Pinnacle Red looked around, “Where are you?” “Your CD Morphers have built-in com-links,” John explained, “But that’s not the point. There is a way to fight Ivan’s giant monsters. Raise your right hand and call upon the Pinnacle Zords.” “Got it John,” Pinnacle Red nodded, “Ready guys?”
“Ready!” the others nodded as they all raised their right hands, “Roll out, Pinnacle Zords!”

The street in front of the New Age Records building opened up and a ramp extended. With a loud honk of horns and the rumble of heavy tires, a massive 16-wheeler-truck emerged. Its cab was jet black with silver accents and the trailer was dark grey, the ‘HM’ logo on both sides. From the skies above, a red military chopper whirred into visibility. The two vehicles raced towards the scene and an amazing transformation took place.

The truck cab moved outwards and the whole vehicle stopped. The trailer tipped to lock into place vertically. The back half of the trailer extended to reveal a black component, a silver ‘HM’ engraved on it. The top of that half split down the centre and the halves moved out, attaching at the sides to form arms, hands sliding out of the wrists. The top of the trailer’s frontal half flipped up, locking into place where the arms once resided to become a chestplate. The design showed a pair of black wings, a white musical note in the centre. The remainder of the frontal section and the cab divided in half to become legs and feet.
The helicopter flew overhead and the propeller blades retracted. The tail folded up and the skids retracted into the sides. The front of the helicopter divided down the middle and slid open, revealing a straight-expression face with a blue visor where eyes would be. The helicopter/head attached to the shoulders and the visor flashed brightly. The four Pinnacle Rangers appeared in their seats in the cockpit as the great robot posed.

“Pinnacle Megazord!” the Rangers cried, “Activate!” Ape Face flailed his fists around and charged at the Pinnacle Megazord at full speed. The Pinnacle Megazord reached behind its back and withdrew a weapon with the body and grip of a gun, the barrel replaced by a long blade.
“Power Gunblade!” Pinnacle Red announced and the metal titan aimed the blade at the oncoming monster. Squeezing the trigger, the robot sent a stream of black energy from the Power Gunblade and into Ape Face, quickly reducing him to dust once more.

Ivan glared at the image in the crystal ball before turning to his three followers. “I’m not happy,” the demon child said in false calm, “I’m not very happy at all. Your next monster had better be stronger than that oversized chimpanzee.” “Yes sir,” Dani whispered, “It will be.”

In the office of John Wallace, the band sat opposite the long-haired man. “Good news people,” he smiled, “Your tour is just about ready to begin. I’m sorry for pulling you into this.” “Hey, we’re ready for it,” said Corey, “Or at least, I am.” “So am I,” Tre added. “And me,” Debbie piped up. Steve merely nodded, “And me.” “Well get some sleep gang, because this is gonna be one Hell of a trip,” John smiled.

Closing Theme: ‘Revolution’ by Judas Priest

04. THE TRIP

Opening Theme: ‘Everything Louder Than Everything Else’ by Meat Loaf

At a local coffee shop, Tre Derbyshire sat in one of the booths along the side. He set down the plastic menu as a beautiful young girl of his age approached. She had black hair cut just past her shoulders and alluring green eyes. She was dressed in the green-and-white uniform of the shop. “Hi Tre,” she smiled. Tre looked up and smiled to her, “Hi Avril, how’re things?” “Oh good,” Avril said, tilting her head slightly, “And how’s things with my Blue-Boy?” “The band’s got a tour,” Tre replied with pride, “John Wallace signed us onto his record company and arranged everything.”

Avril dropped her pad and pen, crushing Tre to her in a hug that made the boy almost as blue as his alter ego’s costume. “Ack…I…can’t…breathe!” Tre choked out. Avril released him, her eyes meeting his and after a moment, both teens blushed brightly. “I’m so happy for you,” Avril smiled though this one was hollow. “What’s wrong?” Tre asked. “…I won’t see you for a real long time…” Avril murmured.
Tre pondered this for a moment before speaking, “Why don’t you come with us?” “W-What?!” Avril was shocked. “Come with us,” Tre repeated, “Think about it – adventure, excitement, music.” A grin was now plastered over Avril’s face and she literally skipped for joy.
“I’ll talk to John,” Tre told her, “And convince him to give you a spot on the tour maybe as a roadie or even caterer. Maybe get you a place in the band – you play keyboard still right?” Avril nodded. Tre nodded back.

In the Moon Castle of Ivan Ooze, the child sat on his throne, looking at his followers. “The Heavy Metal Rangers defeated Ape Face so easily,” Ivan muttered to himself, “And that Pinnacle Megazord is quite a powerful weapon…we need something stronger. We must learn the source of their powers.” “Sir,” said the Gothic man with long hair, “Please allow me to take a creature to Earth, I think I have an idea.”
“As you wish Ville,” Ivan replied, “But do not fail me.” The man known as Ville nodded and left the chamber. The tall figure in the tuxedo stood up, “Master Ooze! Why do you send that brat to fight when I could serve you even better?!”
“Silence Marylyn!” Ivan cried out, “You will have your turn!”
Marylyn growled under his breath, infuriated that he, the greatest warrior of his world, was not fighting the good fight. Instead, that damed Ville was being sent down.
Dani, who was standing nearby, held out her right hand as purple energy crackled on her palm, hitting the ground to form a blob. The blob rose up and began to take shape.

Ivan grinned to himself as the blob transformed into a new monster – it resembled a humanoid blackbird with wide, green eyes, wearing an untied straight jacket. “I’m Raven Loony!” the monster laughed, jumping around like some sort of evil dervish. “Excellent,” Ivan giggled, clapping his tiny hands together in glee, “Send him down!”

Down on the Earth, the band and Avril were standing with John around an articulated truck with the Pinnacle logo on the side of the trailer. The trailer itself was big enough to hold accommodations and equipment. “Well I suppose I can give you a spot,” John stroked his chin, “But not on the band yet – your keyboard’s good but needs some work. I’ll put you on personal catering.” “Thank you,” Avril grinned from ear-to-ear.
“You’d better start packing guys,” John told them, “We’re leaving tonight. I have other things to attend to right now.” With that, the head of New Age Records left.

Suddenly, an explosion sent the five teens flying through the air. A dozen Oozemen were standing in the thick of it, waving their arms around like men possessed. “Get to safety Avril!” Tre said. “But what about you?” Avril protested. “I’ll be fine!” he replied. Hesitantly, Avril broke into a run. As the teens stood up, they saw two figures standing with the Oozemen. One was a young, handsome man with pale features and dark leather clothing, his long hair black and shaggy, his eyes deep crystal blue and surrounded by black. In his right hand was a black bo staff with silver going up its length. The other was a human-sized blackbird wearing a straight jacket.

“Oh God, who are these wankers?” Debbie asked, a bead of sweat forming on the side of her face. “I am Ville,” the pale man introduced himself, “Warrior of the Ooze Empire. And this is my associate – Raven Loony.” “Let’s make this one quick,” Corey looked at his teammates, “Ready?” “Ready,” Tre, Steve and Debbie replied.

“Power Discs!”

They summoned the coloured discs to their hands, sliding them into the CD Morphers on their belts.

“Rock On!”

In a bright flash and startling transformation, they became the Heavy Metal Rangers once more. Like they had before, they called off their names.

Pinnacle Red charged towards Ville, summoning his Phonic Sword and engaging the villain in combat. “You fight well Pinnacle Red,” Ville smirked. “I’m just getting started,” Pinnacle Red replied dryly. Raven Loony took to the air, raining down a volley of black feather-like darts. Pinnacle Blue took the shots, hitting the ground hard. “Tre!” Pinnacle Yellow knelt beside him, “You ok?” “Just fine,” Tre gave the thumbs up, “Let’s roast this bird! Debbie – you handling alright?”

“Never better!” Pinnacle Pink somersaulted a kick into an Oozeman before shooting down two more with her Guitar Rifle, “Go!” Pinnacle Yellow wrapped his hands around Pinnacle Blue’s waist and threw him into the air before bounding up after him.
“Sound Blasters!” the two pulled out their shared weapons, firing and hitting Raven Loony between the eyes. The creature landed groggily on the ground but was able to lift his feet up and send Pinnacle Yellow flying as he came down to. Pinnacle Blue switched his Sound Blaster for his special weapon, “Drum Hammer!” The head of the hammer slammed onto the monster’s chest but another volley of feather darts retaliated.

Pinnacle Pink struck a chord that sent a flaming stream out of the Guitar Rifle, incinerating one Oozeman and bringing up sparks from another. She then sent out a blast of freezing ice, reducing the next Oozeman to a human lolly. Pinnacle Red knocked away Ville’s staff and squeezed off several shots from his Sound Blaster, sending the demonic man to the ground. “I’ll get you next time Metal Rangers!” Ville screamed as he vanished.

Pinnacle Red turned his attention to Raven Loony, “Let’s finish off this creep!” Pinnacle Pink downed the last Oozeman and stood to Pinnacle Red’s left as Pinnacle Yellow stood to the right. Pinnacle Blue knelt down in front of them all as Pinnacle Red took a step back. “Sound Bazooka!” they declared as the cannon appeared in their grasp. Pinnacle Red slid his Phonic Sword into the slot, pressed the middle button and twisted it like a key.

“Concert Nightmare!” the four shouted and the crimson energy blast launched forth. However, like before, a vial of purple liquid appeared in the air and shattered, spilling its contents over the remains, which then flew up and united into a giant version of Raven Loony. The Pinnacle Rangers raised their right hands, “Roll out, Pinnacle Zords!” The Chopper Zord and Truck Zord appeared from their storage compartments, combining immediately to form the Pinnacle Megazord, the Rangers inside.

“Pinnacle Megazord!” the four heroes declared, “Power Gunblade!” The giant robot drew out its signature weapon, opening fire and eliminating Raven Loony in seconds. The creature tumbled to the ground and exploded in flames.

Avril emerged from her hiding place behind the café as the four teens ran towards her. “You’re ok!” she exclaimed, running towards them. “Yeah, I think the Metal Rangers cleared up the problem,” Tre nodded. “Yeah,” Avril nodded before hugging Tre tightly.

Meanwhile, in his office, John Wallace was preparing a document for a new alliance with Diamond Dome Records in America when suddenly, purple smoke spilled into the room. “What the?!” John stood up quickly but within moments, he was lying unconscious on the floor. Two Oozemen with gas masks on came into the office, picking up John’s body and scampering out.

05. THE DANGER

Opening Theme: ‘Everything Louder Than Everything Else’ by Meat Loaf

John Wallace murmured something as he groggily forced himself back to consciousness. His entire body felt like mush, his brain swimming. As his vision returned albeit fuzzily, he realised someone had removed his signature dark glasses. Shaking his head, John looked around. He was inside a temple, much like those used in ancient Mayan times. He suddenly realised he was in the air, chained to a large stone cross.
“What’s going on?” he muttered to himself. “Ah so you’re awake then,” said a tiny voice. “Ivan Ooze…?” John blinked, “…You sound younger.” “For obvious reasons,” the voice replied indignantly. John looked down, seeing a little boy glaring up at him. John’s mouth went crooked before he burst out into fits of laughter. “You think my size is funny ya long-haired, music-lovin’ prick?! I brought you here for a reason!”

John finally got a hold on himself, looking at the tiny terror, “What reason’s that?” “To make it clear to you that I cannot be beaten Wallace,” Ivan said, his mouth curling into an evil smile, “We are pawns in the universal chess game of Good and Evil. But as I play my turns, I have been conserving my power. Don’t you see Wallace? I’ve come back twice now, I can’t die.” “Tell me,” John spoke calmly, “How did you come back this time Ooze?” “I suppose I could tell you,” Ivan began his story…

“As you know, I was defeated 6,000 years ago by Dulcea and her warriors and trapped in a subterranean chamber. Some foolish Americans unearthed it and Lord Zedd released me. I took over the castle of Zedd and his far-from-desirable wife Rita Repulsa. Then I destroyed the headquarters of one Zordon of Eltar…and thus put an end to the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers…or at least I did for a time. They travelled far into space and came back stronger than ever. So I set my Ecto-Morphican Titans on them.

“They used their Ninja Zords to destroy the Dreaded Scorpitron. So in my blind fury I merged with the Barbaric Hornitor, taking my ultimate form. I battled the Power Rangers in a pitched battle through Angel Grove and into space…then they threw me into that blasted comet! I was shattered into a million pieces, my machines were eliminated, my hold over the Moon Palace gone. Zedd and Rita moved back in.

“Anyway, a few small fragments of my body were absorbed into the Moon and then into an underground casket. I had an extent of influence and managed to bring together three followers. They combined their power and after a full decade…I was reborn! Now I’m going to smash the Earth into itty bitty pieces, then smash those pieces into even smaller pieces!”

John struggled against the chains, “You sick monster! Countless billions will die! Innocent men, women and children will be lost!” “You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Ivan smirked. John struggled harder, the chains beginning to creak under his determination. “No you don’t!” Ivan growled, “Dani!” The witch strutted into the room and fired a bolt of black energy from her palm; hitting John and making him become limp again. She then picked up Ivan in her arms. “Come on, it’s time for my nap,” Ivan told her and Dani carried him out. “Ivan’s pretty much fallen from grace,” John muttered, rolling his eyes, “What’s next – Rita the Baby?”

Down on Earth, the members of the Pinnacle were relaxing in the lounge section of their truck, watching the television. Suddenly, the screen fizzed to static and then Ivan Ooze’s grinning face appeared. “Who the?!” Corey stammered. “Greetings Metal Rangers,” said Ivan, “I am Ivan Ooze, the soon-to-be-winner of this little war of ours. I have your leader here…” The screen showed the crucified John before going back to Ivan, “If you want him back, then come and get him. That is all.” The screen went blank. “We have to save John!” Debbie announced, standing up quickly.
“Then let’s do it!” Corey clenched his fist.

“Power Disc! Rock On!”

“We need to get to the moon,” said Pinnacle Yellow. “We can use the Chopper Zord,” said Pinnacle Red, “Come on.” “Right,” the others nodded in agreement as they left the truck.

On the moon, Ville watched as a red dot flew towards him from Earth. He spoke into the device on his wrist, “Ville to Dani – the Heavy Metal Rangers are approaching rapidly. ETA 5 Earth minutes.” “Roger that Ville, preparing the Oozemen,” replied the voice of Dani. Ville nodded and faced the oncoming red dot, which was now close enough to reveal it was the Chopper Zord. The great machine landed and the four Rangers leapt out, weapons ready. Ville summoned his bo staff, “So you moronic boobs think you can fight us on our own world?”
“I’m not in the mood for this,” Pinnacle Red growled, “Steve, think you can handle this twat?” “I’m on it Corey,” Pinnacle Yellow nodded and charged at Ville, the Bass Saw buzzing actively. The rest of the team leapt down the hole nearby, leading them into a temple-like corridor.

As they made their way through the winding hallways, Pinnacle Red looked down at his Phonic Sword, ‘I wonder what the bottom button does…’ He did not have anymore time to dwell on this as a gang of Oozemen, or beings that resembled Oozemen, came from above. They looked like the regular goons but were wearing slate masks over the lower halves of their faces and slate cannons over their right forearms. “Attack!” the lead Oozeman screamed and the soldiers charged, firing purple darts from their cannons. Pinnacle Red blocked several with his Phonic Sword before decapitating his attacker. Pinnacle Blue slammed the head of his Drum Hammer into another Oozemen, sending him into the wall with a grotesque splat. Pinnacle Pink sent a burst of fire from her Guitar Rifle, evaporating a third before freezing a fourth.

The last two opened rapid fire from their cannons. As Pinnacle Blue slammed some of the blasts back, the others hit Pinnacles Red and Pink, sending them hard to the ground. “Ugh!” Pinnacle Pink staggered to her feet, “Now that’s just plain mean…” Suddenly, Pinnacle Yellow came down from above, carrying Ville’s unconscious body over his shoulder.

“Special delivery!” he tossed the dark general at the Oozemen, stunning them long enough for Pinnacle Yellow to cut their legs out from under them. With Ville and the Oozemen defeated, the Rangers took this minute to catch their second wind. “How’d you beat Ville?” Pinnacle Pink asked. “I ducked around the guy and smacked him on the head…hard,” Pinnacle Yellow explained. “Ok, everyone ready?” Pinnacle Red asked, gaining a united nod in reply. With that, the Metal Rangers continued their journey.

Ivan glared into Dani’s crystal ball at the images of the unconscious Ville and the great blob that was once his Oozemen. “Curses,” the demon child muttered, “Marylyn!” “My lord?” the tuxedo-ed man asked. “The Rangers are not far from here,” said Ivan, “I’m sending you as the welcoming committee.” “Yes my lord,” Marylyn grinned evilly and left the chamber. “You won’t get away with this Ooze,” John growled from his crucifix. “Oh put a sock in it Wallace,” Ivan spat, climbing off his throne and toddling over to the man, “I bested your world’s entire army and your greatest warrior – do you think a bunch of drop-outs like the Metal Rangers can win?”
“They’ve done well so far,” John pointed out. “Silence scum!” Dani shrieked, sending a bolt of purple light into John. Ivan looked at her with a grin, “Very good Dani, but in case they do best my next defences – prepare my new suit.”
“But Lord Ivan,” Dani protested, “It’s not ready yet.”
“We can’t take any chances,” Ivan frowned.
“I understand sir…” Dani nodded dully but as she walked away, she thought, ‘His transformation could have been a second chance…I can’t believe he’s thrown it away…such a poor child.’

Pinnacle Red was thrown backwards, crashing hard into the wall. “Corey!” Pinnacle Pink knelt beside him and lifted his head. The leader’s visor was smashed open, making his face visible. A trickle of blood ran down the side of his head. “Oh God are you ok?” Pinnacle Pink whispered. “I’m just fine…” Pinnacle Red replied shakily, “…Just a bruise.” The two Rangers stood up to face their new enemy. Pinnacles Blue and Yellow were currently in lethal combat with a deathly pale man in a monocle and tuxedo. Jutting from his sleeves and covering the tops of his hands were two sharp blades.
Pinnacle Yellow went in for a slice with the Bass Saw but one of the villain’s blades blocked it, causing the saw to catch fire. Pinnacle Yellow dismissed the weapon quickly to its mysterious origin. “Who the Hell are you?!” Pinnacle Blue demanded. “I,” the tuxedo-ed man smiled sickeningly, “Am Marylyn, General of the Ooze Empire.” Pinnacle Blue fell over laughing, “You got a girly name!” “SILENCE!” Marylyn shrieked and cut across the youngest Ranger’s chest with both blades. Pinnacle Blue yelped as sparks flew from his costume and he hit the ground.

“Sound Blasters!” Pinnacle Pink cried as she and Yellow summoned their basic weapons, firing as many blasts into the enemy as possible. Marylyn stepped back from the blasts and swiped his blades outwards in opposite directions, creating a wave of energy that knocked the two Rangers to the ground. Pinnacle Red, leaning against the wall for support, looked at his downed companions, “THIS ENDS NOW!” Marylyn turned his attention to the leader only to see something that made his visible eye widen. Pinnacle Red’s costume had become much brighter and silver light was pouring off his body. His eyes blazed with fury. Pinnacle Red raised his Phonic Sword and gripped it with both hands.

“PHONIC COSMIC!”

He slashed the blade down and a vertical wave of red energy fired out of him, smashing into Marylyn and leaving him charred and weak. “What are you…?” the villain muttered before losing consciousness completely. As Pinnacle Red returned to normal, his friends crowded around him.

“Corey, how did you do that?” Pinnacle Blue asked. “I don’t know,” Pinnacle Red admitted, “But we have to keep going, have to save John and get the Hell out of here.” “Right,” the others replied. Pinnacle Pink rested a hand on his shoulder, “You sure you’re ok?” “I’m just fine…” he told her as they restarted their journey.

06. THE CONFLICT

Opening Theme: ‘Everything Louder Than Everything Else’ by Meat Loaf

Ivan Ooze was in a new place. No longer his throne room, but within a circular, metal chamber on a metal seat. His forearms and shins were encased in metal blocks linked to the walls of the egg-shaped room. He was staring at a green video screen with data streams running down the left side in an alien language. “The Metal Rangers have made me angry,” he muttered to himself, “So if they do somehow best Dani, I will make them pay.”

“We must be nearly there,” said Pinnacle Red as the heroes made their way up a long flight of stairs leading to a circle of light. Suddenly, a dark figure emerged – a pale-skinned woman in black robes. “You may have defeated Ville and Marylyn,” she said, “But you will not pass Dani, Witch General.” “I am tired of fighting generals,” Pinnacle Pink scowled, “Let us pass now!” “Such a gutsy kid,” Dani smirked then it struck her hard. She allowed her staff to drop to the floor, “You can go.”
“What?!” Pinnacle Blue gaped. “Ivan Ooze is a child now,” Dani spoke, “And no child should have to be so full of hatred…if you defeat him…either he’ll die or change. Please, you must stop him.” The Rangers looked at each other in complete shock before turning their attention to Dani again.

“Can we trust her?” Pinnacle Pink asked her leader. “We have to,” Pinnacle Red replied, “Come on.” As the Rangers walked past, Pinnacle Blue stared at Dani for a moment, almost as if recognising her for someone else, and then followed his friends.

John looked up as four Technicolor-clad people came into the throne room. “Rangers!” John sighed in relief, “It’s good to see you! But you must be careful – Ivan is here and he’s not joking around.” “We can take whatever he throws at us,” said Pinnacle Red as he cut his mentor/employer free, “But when this is over, you’ve got a lot of explaining to do.” “I understand Corey,” John nodded as he dropped to the ground, nursing his sore wrists. Suddenly, the far wall of the chamber began to release great clouds of steam that churned in the air and spread outwards so that within moments the ceiling was invisible. A thick line appeared down the centre of the wall and it slid open in two different directions, revealing a large, metal egg with a green view screen. The egg flew towards the Rangers, who dodged as quickly as possible.

“Die Metal Rangers!” Ivan screamed from inside, “Die! And take your accursed heritage with you!” The egg turned to face them and began to transform. The bottom half of the egg extended downwards and feet unfolded. A pair of arms folded out from beneath the upper half and clipped to either side to form arms, claw-like hands appearing. A circle below the green view screen flipped to reveal an engraving of Ivan’s Medusa-like insignia.

“Ooze Techno Integrated Suit – on,” Ivan said, almost mockingly. The egg-robot hybrid, OTIS, headed towards John and the Rangers. “Move it!” John shouted but one of the metal claws shot out and gripped him tightly by the waist before retracting.
“John!” the Rangers shouted. “Let him go!” Pinnacle Blue commanded. “Who, this?” Ivan asked innocently, raising John in OTIS’ great claw, “Why? Is he that important to you four?”
“Let him go Ivan,” Pinnacle Red snarled, “Don’t make us take rash actions.” “Like what you pitiful human?” Ivan giggled, “You’ll summon a big robot to squish me? While I hold your mentor, you can’t even touch me!” “We’ll see about that,” Pinnacle Red muttered.

“QUIT THE PLANNING CRAP!” John cried out, “BLAST THE SUCKER! I’LL BE OK!” Pinnacle Red’s eyes widened – he hadn’t expected an outburst from John Wallace but hey, he wasn’t getting any younger.
The Rangers took their positions and cried out together, “Sound Bazooka!” Pinnacle Red slid in the Phonic Sword and pressed the correct button.

“Concert Nightmare!”

The blast hit OTIS, creating a smoking hole through its body. The robot released John and began stumbling around as Ivan tried in vain to regain control. The demon child roared in fury and punched a button on the control console. A circle slid into place to cover the smoking hole and OTIS once more became a metal egg, shooting upwards and crashing through the roof. “Let’s get topside and check it out!” Pinnacle Red ordered. “I’ll stay here,” John said, “I’ll only get in the way. Go.”
“If you’re sure,” Pinnacle Red murmured before leading the team out of the room.

As the Rangers came onto the surface of the roof, they saw something had already arisen from one of the hundreds of deep craters. A great silver monster that struck horror into the hearts of the heroes. It resembled a monstrous wasp, its red eyes glaring and full of hate. OTIS was attached to its underbelly, half in and half out like some kind of cockpit.
“What in God’s name is that?!” Pinnacle Yellow cried. “This, while not as strong, is created from the remains of the Dreaded Scorpitron! I call it…the Terrible Waspinator!” “We need the Pinnacle Megazord!” Pinnacle Red cried. “Can we summon the Pinnacle Truck from so far away?” Pinnacle Blue asked. “We’ll have to,” the leader narrowed his eyes, “Roll out, Pinnacle Zords!”

The two mighty machines warped to their location, combining into the Pinnacle Megazord. In the cockpit, the Rangers took command. “Pinnacle Megazord!” they announced, “Activate!” The titanic robot thundered towards Waspinator but the insectoid fired out a spiky dart, hitting the Pinnacle Megazord and bringing it to the ground. “Ugh!” Pinnacle Red grunted, “Ok ya Purple Pipsqueak, you wanna play rough? Power Gunblade!”

The Pinnacle Megazord drew its primary weapon and began firing energy pellets at Waspinator, forcing the metal monster back. The Pinnacle Megazord than charged, ramming the blade of its weapon straight through the enemy’s head. Inside the Waspinator, Ivan screamed in God’s own fury, “CURSE YOU RANGERS!”
The Pinnacle Megazord turned away as the Waspinator caught fire and burst into a glorious rush of flames and smokes that dissipated as it hit the windless air. Through the giant hole in the ground, John smiled, “Well done Young Ones.” The Pinnacle Megazord reached in, allowing John to climb on and enter the great robot before they took off for Earth.

Just a few hours later, the now fully-groomed John, Avril and the band stood outside their official truck. “Well, I’ll keep in contact with you,” the manager said with a smile, “Good luck with the tour – your first stop is Basildon Centre.” “Thanks mate,” Corey nodded, “We’ll ciya.” With that, the two shook hands and The Pinnacle’s official tour had begun.

07. THE HAUNTING

Opening Theme: ‘2 Minutes To Midnight’ by Iron Maiden

Our tour had begun, after all this time of planning and preparation it had begun. I knew this would be exciting – I was worried my voice would choke and I’d mess up my singing career. Well that’s for the future at least. Up on the moon, we saw Ivan vanish in the flaming heap of his own robot and assumed he was dead – but I have a feeling there’s more to it, more enemies out there…guess we’ll have to wait and see…

The truck was escorted through to the central street of Basildon, the first stop of The Pinnacle’s first tour. Basildon was famous for being a huge market place with the East and West Gate shopping centres at either end. Of course since it tended to busy, they needed police escorts to make their way past the bustling crowds.

Inside, the four members of the band were chatting in excitement as roadies tuned their instruments. “I can’t believe it’s finally happening!” Debbie squealed. “All of it’s finally paid off!” Tre agreed. “This is gonna be too cool!” Corey grinned, punching the air. Steve looked up from his book, nodding slightly. “I’m going out for a bit of fresh air,” said Debbie, grabbing her pink puffer jacket from the rack, “I’ll be back soon.” With that, she left.

In the East Gate shopping centre, an evil wind began to blow. Those inside looked towards the source – the local GAME outlet. A loud shriek emitted and everyone screamed as something emerged – then they ran out in fear. Debbie had been in the crowd at the time and was knocked to the floor, dazed. “My head…” she forced herself to stand, “What just happened?” She raised an eyebrow at what came from the GAME outlet – a rather tall man in a black overcoat, black scarf and black top hat.

“Who are you? A Jack the Ripper wannabe?”
“You only wish I were that simple.”

The overcoat blew open, revealing a hideously skeletal form beneath, a body consisting of mostly bone with a few shreds of meat clinging to it. Debbie winced, “That’s gross…ok…you wanna play? We’ll play. Power Disc!”
She summoned her pink Power Disc and slid it into the CD Morpher on her belt, snapping it shut.

“ROCK ON!”

She transformed into Pinnacle Pink and pulled out her Sound Blaster but as she opened fire, the spectre vanished. The heroine stepped onto an escalator, running up it to the East Gate’s second floor. The second floor was like a ring, surrounding a hole that viewed the first floor with fibreglass guarding around it. She pressed the hidden compartment on the side of her helmet, “Guys, it’s Debbie – I need help.” “Where are you?” Corey’s voice replied. “I’m at East Gate,” she answered. “We’ll be right there,” Corey acknowledged, “Over and out.”
Pinnacle Pink held he Sound Blaster against her like a professional spy would, peeking around corners and into shops, looking for any sign of the ghostly being.

Suddenly, a bony hand came out of nowhere and caught her in the stomach with such force that she fell over the fibreglass, plummeting down and hitting the stone floor below with a sickening thump. “Foolish wench!” the creature flew straight for her, cupping her helmet’s cheeks in his hands and lifting her up, “You really think you could take down me – I am the Basildon Slasher, and none have ever stopped me.”
Behind her visor, Pinnacle Pink was shaking in fear. All those monsters before were living, they could be killed, but this one was already dead – what was she to do?!

The other three Rangers, fully morphed, ran onto the scene. “Sound Blaster – fire!” Pinnacle Red shouted, sending a blast from his weapon into the ghost. In fury, the Slasher flew upwards, dropping Pinnacle Pink. Pinnacle Red caught her before she hit the floor, “You ok?” “I’ll be fine…” Pinnacle Pink nodded, “…Come on, we have to stop that ghost.”
“How do you propose we do that?!” Pinnacle Blue frowned, “Call in the Ghostbusters?!”

“Wait,” Pinnacle Yellow spun around, “In my book, there was a ghost that was captured in a bottle – we may not be able to kill ghosts, but we can trap him and make sure he never makes it out.” “We’re going on a ghost hunt!” Pinnacle Blue grinned, clapping his hands like a little kid.

“Tre,” said Pinnacle Red, “You and I will track down the ghost, Steve and Debbie will find a bottle and a place to dump it later.” The two groups went their ways. Pinnacles Red and Blue ran up the escalators until they reached the third floor.
“Can’t see the bastard anywhere,” Pinnacle Blue murmured, “Wait…there he is!” He began chasing after the Slasher, who was flying at rapid speed away from him. Pinnacle Blue swung his Drum Hammer, whacking the ghost and sending him into a shop.

The Slasher burst out again and wrapped his skeletal hands around his attacker’s neck. “Lay off the kid mate,” Pinnacle Red smirked, swinging the Phonic Sword. The ghost’s coat fell in half and before he could escape, Pinnacle Red grabbed him by what he could guess was his neck.

The Slasher spun around and slashed Pinnacle Red’s torso, sending the leader back as he gripped his chest. Trying to escape, the Slasher took a smack of the Drum Hammer to the face and began to fall. There was a splash as he landed in the fountain on the bottom floor. The two Rangers descended as the ruined clothes dragged themselves from the water.

“Hey Casper!”

The Slasher spun around to see Pinnacle Yellow holding a green, thick glass bottle. The strongest hero pulled the top off the bottle and his palm glowed in his colours. The glow vanished and a powerful suction pulled the Slasher into the bottle…in shreds. His scream of, “NOOOOOOOOOO!” lingered in the air for several seconds before Pinnacle Yellow snapped the lid back on and tossed the bottle high into the air, sending it smashing through the roof.

“Where did you send it?” Pinnacle Pink asked in curiosity. “It should be sailing towards the sea now,” Pinnacle Yellow replied, “He won’t be bothering us again.” The four heroes stood together and watched as the small green dot in the sky sailed away and vanished.

Later that night, The Pinnacle were on stage, looking out at the gathered crowd. They were hardly famous, but they were thankful for this small gathering and if they played their cards right, they’d be British sensations. Corey’s voice sang into the night as the band played beautifully. So maybe this was a cover song, all the best bands did covers.

“Can't explain all the feelings that you're making me feel
My heart's in overdrive and you're behind the steering wheel

“Touching you, touching me
Touching you, God you're touching me

“I believe in a thing called love
Just listen to the rhythm of my heart
There's a chance we could make it now
We'll be rocking 'til the sun goes down
I believe in a thing called love
Ooh!

“I wanna kiss you every minute, every hour, every day
You got me in a spin but everything is A-OK!

“Touching you, touching me
Touching you, God you're touching me

“I believe in a thing called love
Just listen to the rhythm of my heart
There's a chance we could make it now
We'll be rocking 'til the sun goes down
I believe in a thing called love
Ooh! Guitar!

“Touching you, touching me
Touching you, God you're touching me

“I believe in a thing called love
Just listen to the rhythm of my heart
There's a chance we could make it now
We'll be rocking 'til the sun goes down
I believe in a thing called love
Ooh!”

The glassy green bottle sank lower and lower into the sea until a pearly white hand gripped it. A sugary voice spoke, “Hmmm…well…this could be a good development.” A pair of amber eyes shined like stars.

08. THE WAVE

Opening Theme: ‘2 Minutes To Midnight’ by Iron Maiden

The concert tour had made its way to Thorpe Bay and now the musicians were emerging onto the stage. John had pulled some strings with the head of Reprise Records thus The Pinnacle were performing a duet with none other than the popular New Jersey sensations My Chemical Romance.

Corey walked towards Gerard Way, offering his hand, “We really appreciate you agreeing to duet with us.” Gerard smiled and shook Corey’s hand, “It’s a pleasure – no offence but maybe this will boost your careers.” “There’s a point,” Corey nodded.
Nearby, Tre and Ray Toro were playing air guitar with false crazed looks on their faces.
“They’re as bad as each other,” Mikey Way smirked. Bob Bryar and Steve sat opposite each other, tuning their bass guitars quietly – both were the strong silent ones of their respective groups so it was no wonder they got on so well.

Debbie let out a squeak as an arm snaked around her shoulders. She quickly looked up to see Frank Iero. “Hey,” Frank smirked, “You look hot – you taken?” “I…I…I…” Debbie felt her face heating up as Frank watched her slyly. “Yes,” she nodded quickly. Frank put on a look of mock sadness and trudged away before shooting back, kissing the girl on the cheek and vanishing. Debbie screwed up her nose, shaking her fists in the air. Corey chuckled under his breath before walking towards Debbie and taking her hand in his, “Hey, don’t worry, I’m sure he was just playing with you.”
“I bloody well hope so,” Debbie frowned.

A pearly-white hand passed over the surface of a crystal ball, watching the bands gathering their equipment. “Mmm…” the owner of the hand licked her ruby lips, “…He’s perfect…yes…the future father of an empire.” “Queen Marionette,” said another, possibly older voice, “Is that all you see in humans – breeding stock?”
Queen Marionette, a woman with icy blue eyes and long blonde hair, turned to her dark-skinned companion, who had shorter, dark hair and chiselled features.
Both women wore shells over their bountiful chests.

Note from Scott: The mermaids in this are based on those featuring in the popular web-comic ‘Elf Life’ where for some genetic reason we still don’t know, all mermaids are over-chested.

“Our race is dying out Oracle,” said Marionette, “We must make stronger offspring and for that, we must breed with humans. The man I have chosen, Corey Logan, has strong inner power and so, his children will possess the same. Now if I can just catch him…perfect. Oracle, I’m going to the concert, you will be in charge until my return.” Marionette swam out of the coral chamber as Oracle merely bowed.

“Good luck out there man,” Gerard said. “You to,” Corey replied. Outside, the PA system had begun its announcement, “And now, good residents of Thorpe Bay, England, may I introduce our bands – England’s newest punk/metal group and their New Jersey partners – The Pinnacle and My Chemical Romance!”

The curtains lifted to reveal the two groups. The musicians were ready to go and the singers had their backs to the audience. Suddenly, Corey jumped around to face the concert-goers, “Ministry of Cowardice!” Gerard did the same, “Helena!”

The English band began playing first, followed 5 seconds later by the Americans.

Note from Scott: The lyrics in typical italics are Corey, the lyrics in bold italics are Gerard.

“Yer treatin’ us like tiny dolls
Make us pay more of your tolls
We suffer when it’s all your fault
Bringing our lives no justice!”

“Long ago
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are so far from you!

“Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives of everyone you know
And what's the worst you take
From every heart you break
And like the blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight!”

“Getting us involved in wars
We never did a thing to you
You torn apart all of our work
Only one term for you

“Ministry of Cowardice
You cause nothing but pain
Replacing your countrymen
With those from overseas!”

“What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

“Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold
And what's the worst you take
from every heart you break
And like the blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight!”

“Why don’t you open your eyes
And hear the loyal country cries
Taking away our honour
Just because you’re scared to die

“You hide behind innocent men
Women and children with them to
Take away what England is
Know what we think of you?”

“What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

“Can you hear me?
Are you near me?
Can we pretend to leave and then
We'll meet again
When both our cars collide?”

“Ministry of Cowardice
You cause nothing but pain
Replacing your countrymen
With those from overseas

“In the end we’ll turn against you
Then what you gonna do?
When the real people of this country
Take your power from you?”

“What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight!”

“You put up all your stupid laws
You try and keep the truth away
Now parliament’s within my grasp
This is what I have to say

“Ministry of Cowardice
You cause nothing but pain
Replacing your countrymen
With those from overseas!”

“Thank you Thorpe Bay!” Gerard screamed as the crowd went insane with applause. “We love you all!” Corey added. From the front of the crowd, an over-chested woman with a red cloak covering her entire form smiled devilishly. Such pure power resided from within the man called Corey. She would take him now. Still with her red cloak on, the mermaid queen’s human form jumped onto the stage, grabbed Corey’s wrist and they both vanished in a spring of water. The crowd watched in amazement and the two bands merely looked at each other, jaws open and eyes wide.

Debbie screamed into the evening, “COREY!!!”

Corey’s eyes began to open – his hair was dangling in his eyes – someone had removed his bandanna. He was chained by the wrists to a wall apparently made of coral. The singer began to thrash as he realised he was underwater. Yet he was breathing, no matter how long he was unconscious, he should have been dead by now. He heard the sound of water gently being moved and found himself in a gentle embrace.

“Do not struggle, my King,” a sugary yet alluring voice whispered in his ear, “You are safe.” Corey began to feel a strange sense of relief wash over him and closed his eyes and someone pressed their lips to his. He felt the chains give away and embraced this mysterious woman. Marionette smiled to herself – he was hers now. Her charms worked, no man could resist her allure or physique. She placed a hand behind Corey’s head and rested her head on his shoulder, pressing her chest against his.
Smirking to herself, Marionette licked his cheek gently.

“We have to find him!” Debbie whined, “We have to! We have to!” “Get a grip woman!” Avril snapped, shaking the other girl by the shoulders, “There’s no point in losing our minds over it!” “You…you’re right Avril,” Debbie whispered, “I’m sorry, but I’m scared.” “Debbie, you have to keep calm,” Avril told her, “I understand…love’s a hard thing to deal with and so is losing the person you love, but you have to remain calm if we’re to get Corey back.”
Debbie hugged her, trying to remain still but her entire body was shaking. Avril patted the guitarist on the back assuringly.

Steve poked his head into the room, “Debbie, we need in here for a moment. Avril, you stay where you are.” Avril reluctantly nodded as Debbie followed Steve into the next room. Tre was looking at the watery image before them all.
“What is it…?” the girl asked in confusion. The image showed the upper body of a dark-skinned woman with a straight expression.
“Greetings The Pinnacle,” the woman said, “I am Oracle, High Priestess and Advisor to the Queen of Atlantis – my Queen has taken your Corey to her palace several hundred miles to the south of your location, you will have to find him and rescue him.” The image faded before the band could speak.

“We got a job to do,” Debbie growled hatefully, hate towards this Queen, “ROCK ON!”

The three Pinnacle Rangers stood at the edge of the pier and looked at each other. “Our helmets will give us a steady amount of oxygen,” said Pinnacle Yellow, “But we should still make this quick, our electric-based abilities could prove faulty underwater.” “Right,” the other two nodded and they all dived off the edge and into the sea.

Pinnacle Pink’s visor produced a bright light to guide her and her companions through the waters – the tide was in thus they were already in deep. They swam at breakneck speed so it only took an hour and a half to reach their destination. The trio looked in awe at the great coral city of Atlantis, the palace placed in the very centre. “It’s beautiful,” Pinnacle Pink whispered. “Shake and break!” Pinnacle Blue shrieked, “Drum Hammer!”

“Tre! No!” Pinnacle Yellow attempted to stop the youngest hero but it was too late – he was already speeding towards the palace as fast as he could, his Drum Hammer raised. A burly figure, a Merman, clad in spiky armour on his shoulders, chest and head, swam in the way and head-butted Pinnacle Blue backwards. “Right back at ya pal!” the warrior growled and swung his Drum Hammer, impacting on the Merman’s trident-weapon. More Merman guards swam out of the palace and in no time, the Rangers were surrounded.

“Bass Saw!” Pinnacle Yellow summoned his weapon and began cutting away the guards’ weapons as Pinnacle Pink drew her Guitar Rifle. The flamethrower would be useless but she did have an idea – she struck the chord for the ice gun and the guards were frozen, floating to the surface of the ocean. “Quickly – before more show up,” Pinnacle Yellow led the team through the door the guards had emerged from.

They swiftly arrived in what could only be a throne room and at the end were two giant conch shells, probably thrones. “Come out!” Pinnacle Pink demanded, “I want Corey back – now!” The right conch rotated, to reveal the voluptuous form of Queen Marionette; the formerly pinkish shells on her breasts replaced by blood red ones and on her head sat a crown of pearls.

“Your Corey?” she asked, almost amused, “You couldn’t be more wrong little girl – let me introduce my King.” The other conch revolved and the Rangers froze up. There was Corey, dressed in red robes lined with gold, a shell-like medallion at the base of his neck.

“Corey…” Pinnacle Pink choked, failing to force back her tears.

“Corey…” Pinnacle Pink gasped, “…GIVE HIM BACK!” “Get them!” Marionette demanded. Corey charged forward and immediately floored all three Rangers. “She’s got him under her control…” Pinnacle Blue muttered, “…We have to break the spell.”
“No **** Sherlock,” Pinnacle Yellow frowned, “Bass Saw!”

The warrior ran forward with his weapon but Corey blocked by drawing out a sword composed of coral. The hypnotised ex-Ranger sent Pinnacle Yellow flying back then managed to defend from an attack by Pinnacle Blue. He swept the boy’s legs out from under him. Pinnacle Yellow tried to fire a blast from her Guitar Rifle but couldn’t bring herself to strike Corey. She allowed the weapon to fall from her grasp and collapsed to her knees.

Pinnacle Blue swiftly righted himself and swung the Drum Hammer into the side of Corey’s head, sending him flying through the water and into the wall. Pinnacle Yellow noticed that Marionette was maintaining eye contact with the ex-leader, her fingers moving in precision as Corey stood up and grabbed Pinnacle Blue’s helmet, smashing his knee into the hero’s visor. “That’s it…” Pinnacle Yellow whispered then he called over to Pinnacle Pink, “Debbie! Stop her from keeping control on him!”

Pinnacle Pink barrelled towards Marionette in fury but the Queen anticipated this. “My King!” she shrieked. Corey grabbed Debbie by the wrist and swung her into Pinnacle Yellow. All of the Rangers were down and dazed. “Guards!” Marionette called, “Take them to the gallows!” As the Mermen guards entered and dragged the Metal Rangers away, a dark-skinned woman watched from behind a corner.

Later, the three unmorphed Rangers sat on the floor of their holding cell, awaiting their fate. The Mermen had provided them with large air bubbles within the confined space but had taken away their Power Discs and CD Morphers. Debbie was crying but the water was washing her tears away. “She took my Corey away…” she whispered, hugging herself. Tre put his arm around her shoulders assuringly, “Debbie, it’s ok, it’s ok.” Debbie held onto him, burying her face in his shoulder.

Steve looked up as the sound of parting water grew close to them. A dark-skinned mermaid appeared at the door of the cell. “Who are you?” Steve asked. “My name is Oracle,” the mermaid replied dryly, “Look, I could get into real trouble for this but I won’t see another good human become one of Marionette’s toys.” She slid some form of key into the lock and the doors opened. The mermaid then revealed the Power Discs and CD Morphers.
“There’s not much time,” she said, “Marionette will use him as breeding stock then devour him, she’s done that to many and you must stop her.” Debbie fumed with hatred, “ROCK ON!”

Marionette traced the statue-like Corey’s chin with her finger before moving into kiss him. However, the moment before their lips touched, the doors of the throne room exploded into a million icy fragments. The Metal Rangers leapt into the room and the guards were immediately upon them.

Pinnacle Blue and Pinnacle Yellow drew their Sound Batons, fighting off the attackers as viciously as they could as Pinnacle Pink charged at Marionette. The mermaid swam backwards and Corey stepped in, grabbing Pinnacle Pink’s shoulders and throwing her away. Marionette kept her eyes on her servant, moving her fingers like a puppeteer would will his wooden minions.

“I’m sorry to do this Corey but…” Pinnacle Pink struck a chord that froze Corey solid. She then ran towards Marionette and dropkicked her, following up with several powerful punches to the mermaid’s stomach. She then went for an uppercut, sending Marionette to the floor. The mermaid forced herself to move but Pinnacle Pink pressed the barrel of her Sound Blaster to her head.

“Break the hold on Corey,” the female Ranger growled, “Break it or I’ll blow your brains out. And if you ever, ever pick another King…make him last.” “Fine…” Marionette muttered, “…Guards! Stand down!” The guards were confused but when they saw their queen’s situation, they retreated. The ice around Corey’s body vanished and he fell to the ground, almost unconscious. As Pinnacles Blue and Yellow went to pick up their leader, Pinnacle Pink looked down at Marionette, who looked utterly depressed.

She bent down and rested her hand on the queen’s shoulder, “Marionette, look at me, there are other ways to save your kingdom than collecting people just for breeding. You’ll find those ways soon enough.” “You’re wise Deborah,” Marionette whispered, “And you have my undying respect, if you ever need assistance…we will be ready. The gills I gave to Corey will last him until you reach the surface, then they will simply fade away.” Behind her visor, Debbie was surprised at the sudden change but smiled anyway. She patted Marionette on the shoulder before rejoining the others and they all swam out of the chamber.

That night, Corey had recovered from his dazed state and was talking with Debbie in his dressing room.
“Debbie…” he muttered, “…I’m so sorry.” “It wasn’t your fault,” Debbie told him for the 7TH time, “Marionette hypnotised you, and you weren’t yourself. But she’s changed now and I’m happy to have you back. Now shut up and kiss me.”
Corey looked at the clock, 5 minutes until their performance with My Chemical Romance was to be restarted. He took Debbie in his embrace and kissed her lovingly.

10. THE DUO

Opening Theme: ‘2 Minutes To Midnight’ by Iron Maiden

“Next stop, Milton Keynes,” said the roadie driving the truck. Tre ran his fingers along the rim of the window as Avril stood behind him. “Tre?” she asked, “You ok?” Tre looked at her and smiled, “Yeah, just fine Avril…” Avril wrapped her arms around him affectionately, “Are you sure?” Tre smiled and nodded, “Yeah, really. Look…Avril…there’s something you need to know about me and the others, can I trust you to keep a secret?”
“Sure,” Avril nodded. Tre reached into his pocket and revealed his CD Morpher, “We’re the Heavy Metal Rangers.” “You’re kidding me,” Avril frowned, “Don’t lie to me Tre Derbyshire.”
“I’m not,” Tre replied, “Look at the symbol.” Avril stared at the ‘HM’ symbol on the device, “The symbol of the Rangers…oh God, Tre, why didn’t you tell me before?” “I guess I thought you’d get hurt if I told you,” Tre explained, “I didn’t want that.”
“That’s really sweet,” Avril kissed him on the cheek, “Look, I’m gonna try out for the band later, I’ve been practising my keyboard.” “Hey, I’d hire ya any day,” Tre smiled, “And I’m sure the others will agree with me.”

Corey ran in from the next room, “Guys! You gotta see this!” Avril and Tre followed the lead singer to where Steve, Debbie and a couple of roadies were gathered around the battery-powered television.

“Recently, a strange stream of murders have been recorded throughout the town of Milton Keynes,” said the news reporter, “The killer’s weapon of choice is an acidic-tipped blade of sorts, possibly a razor. To protect citizens, security around special events has been tightened…”

“Acidic-tipped blade?” Debbie asked, “That’s sick.” “At least they’re tightening up security,” said Steve. As the news report droned on into the sports section, the band pulled away. “Guys,” said Avril, “I was wondering if I could play a little something, to see if I was good enough to be an official part of the band.” “Sure, now’s good,” said Corey, “It’ll be a while before we reach Keynes so we can quickly add a keyboard into the tunes.”

Avril grinned in delight and walked to the instrument storage area. As the band took a seat on the bench against the wall, Avril stood behind her Yamaha keyboard, cracked her knuckles and then her fingers began to dance across the keys. When she finished, the band began to talk amongst each other and then Corey stood up, “Welcome to The Pinnacle, Avril.” Avril grinned ear-to-ear.

Suddenly, the truck screeched to a halt. Corey ran to the cab, “What the Hell just happened?!” “Something’s in the way,” the driver replied, “Take a look.” Corey grunted and climbed out of the truck, his eyes widening slightly at what was standing in the middle of the road. Standing at only a foot high each, they were the oddest creatures Corey had ever seen. Both were covered in brownish fur and had tiny, stub-like fingers and toes. Their faces were similar to a gorilla’s. One of them had ocean blue eyes while the other had bright pink ones.

“Guys!” Corey shouted into the truck. Steve, Tre, Debbie and Avril piled out of the truck. Avril’s eyes almost seemed replaced by big, pulsating love hearts, “They’re so cute!”

The blue-eyed creature waddled forward and said in a tiny voice, “Please help us! We are Imps who have survived a horrible massacre! My name is Lynyrd; this is my mate, Skynyrd.” The pink-eyed one remained quiet.
“Massacre?” Corey bent down, “Where?” “Milton Keynes, many people were killed by a horrible monster,” Lynyrd explained, “We are searching for Rangers to help us stop it.” Skynyrd suddenly collapsed and Avril noticed she was bleeding.

The girl picked up the female Imp, “Let’s get them inside.” Debbie picked up Lynyrd and the group clambered back inside, heading for their private section of the trailer.

When the truck started up again, Lynyrd told the group his and his mate’s story.

“We were sent from another world to learn about this world so as to help us in our plans for relations with humans. Unfortunately, when we arrived in Milton Keynes, we were immediately pursued by a hideous, drooling beast. It slaughtered many but thankfully, not all. Security was tightened around the city and we only got out due to our size. The creature is out there somewhere.”

“The concert is still on,” Corey stated, “We’ve worked too hard and too long to let it all go to pot.” The others looked at each other in silent conference before they nodded in agreement. As Lynyrd and Skynyrd curled up on one of the chairs, the band became talking quietly.

“I don’t know if we should trust them,” Tre muttered, “There’s something wrong.”
“They look harmless,” Debbie replied, “How much trouble could they be?”
“Ivan looked like no older than 5 and look what he could do,” Tre pointed out.
“Look, I think we should just play our cards right,” said Steve, “We never know.”
“I agree with Tre,” Avril added, “We don’t know if they’re trustworthy.”
“All we can do is wait and see,” Corey murmured.

The huddle broke as the band put in a quick practise session before their roadies came in.

At Milton Keynes, security had indeed been tightened around the concert hall, there was even a police sniper on the roof! The crowd all seemed nervous but as the lights came on the huge logo of The Pinnacle came down, that nervousness turned into excitement. The curtains parted to reveal the band, all ready to sing for them.

Corey grabbed the microphone and yelled into it, “Hello Milton Keynes! Let’s rock this!”

The concert began and went on rather smoothly, much to the inner gratitude of the band.

Backstage, Lynyrd and Skynyrd were paw-in-paw, their eyes flashing. Their bodies began switching between flesh and bone and coloured smoke began to rise as they screamed loudly.

As the last song came to its end, there was a hideous smell that filled the concert hall and an explosion behind the curtains that sent the audience fleeing in terror. The band turned around as three, long bronze claws shredded the big screen before it was torn completely, revealing a hideous beast. It stood at 8ft in height and its skinny yet agile body was mostly leathery black with patches of brown fur on its hands, shoulders, chest, waist, knees, shins and feet. Its head was reptilian with four, thin eyes, two blue and two pink. Protruding from either side of the mouth were razor-sharp pincers and there was a long, curved horn on top of its head.

“Lynyrd and Skynyrd! It has to be!” Tre exclaimed, “I knew they were trouble!” Debbie noticed the green film that was now coating the monster’s claws, “Acid-tipped blades! That thing’s the attacker!” Corey frowned and Avril noticed his expression. “It’s ok,” she said, “I know.” Corey nodded, he’d find out later how she learnt their secret. The keyboardist ran to safety as the heroes summoned their Power Discs and slid them into the CD Morphers.

“ROCK ON!”

The heroes morphed and sounded off their role call.

“The Rebellious Singer – Pinnacle Red!”
“The Smashing Drummer – Pinnacle Blue!”
“The Rocking Bassist – Pinnacle Yellow!”
“The Beautiful Guitarist – Pinnacle Pink!”

“Heavy Metal Rangers!”

“Phonic Sword!” Pinnacle Red summoned his blade and jumped forward, slashing the creature’s stomach but doing nothing. He pressed the top button on his sword grip and slashed the air twice, “Sonic Wave!” The blast bounced off harmlessly.

“It’s not working! Guitar Rifle!” Pinnacle Pink announced, sending out a blast of fire which lit up the monster’s chest fur. Temporarily distracted, it jumped around while trying to stop itself from incineration.
“Corey,” said Pinnacle Yellow, “Use that Phonic Cosmic thing like you did before.” “I don’t know how,” Pinnacle Red admitted, “I don’t think it works that way!”
“Well that’s just dandy,” Pinnacle Yellow muttered before jumping towards the monster, “Bass Saw!” He jammed the spinning blade into its skull. The creature grabbed the hero around the waist and threw him into a row of seats.

“Nobody does that to my friends,” Pinnacle Blue snarled before summoning his own weapon, “Drum Hammer!” The creature kicked the youngest hero to the ground and smacked the Drum Hammer away. The Ranger went for his Sound Blaster but that was knocked away to, incredibly close to where Avril was hiding. The girl looked at the weapon and reached for it as the beast prepared to stab its captive with the razors.

“TREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”

Everyone fell into shock and reality itself seemed to slow down, Pinnacle Blue’s overall shock made him see it like some old, black-and-white comic. Avril ran out from her hiding place and kicked the downed Ranger free, taking the stab through the stomach herself. At the same time, she opened fire from the Sound Blaster, hitting the beast in the eyes.
Pinnacle Blue’s throat ran dry and he couldn’t cry out, the horror was too much. Pinnacle Red, now infuriated, began to glow white. The creature pulled its blades out of Avril’s stomach and let her collapse, turning near-blindly towards the leader.

“PHONIC COSMIC!”

Pinnacle Red fired out all of his gathered energy, reducing the monster to ash. As everything returned to normal, Pinnacle Blue ran towards Avril’s body and demorphed, revealing the tears in his eyes. He gathered up the fallen girl, cradling her in his arms. The other Metal Rangers shifted into their human forms and gathered around Tre and Avril, their heads down in sadness.
