----------------------------------------
New-Tech City; October 20th, 2020

Jack Landors paced back and forth in front of the door that stood between him and probable consternation from his boss, Commander Cruger. On the Rangers last fight, which had been yesterday, they’d discovered a majorly sad thing.

The A-Squad Power Rangers hadn’t been eliminated as they’d first assumed when they’d lost communications with them a full seven months ago.

Instead, the Rangers had been brainwashed and turned into an evil group of Rangers that fought solely for the pleasure of Emperor Grumm, evil leader of the Troobian attack forces.

“ Enter,” a voice said from beyond, and Jack told the doors to open before entering them and allowing them to shut behind him.

“ Commander Cruger, you summoned me?” he asked, knowing full well the big blue dog-like creature was the one who’d sent the summons.

“ Yes, Jack. I’ve summoned you to tell you how sad I am that A-Squad has been turned evil. Now they are our enemy, and we must do everything we can to bring them to justice.”

“ Their destroying the Phillipo’s Number 2 diamond warehouse was unfortunate, and partially due to the fact that I noticed you and the others didn’t use your full powers to try and bring A-Squad down,” Commander Cruger admonished him.

“ But Commander, the other Rangers and I – we don’t feel comfortable fighting against our own kind. A-Squad was trained longer than us, better than us, and are more prepared to fight against us than we are against them,” Jack protested.

“ Nonetheless, I must order you to fight to your fullest extent on your next confrontation with the former A-Squad Rangers. Do not let them destroy the property of any more innocent civilians,” Commander Cruger replied, seconds before the alarms began blaring.

The two hurried over to the viewing screen, the main one, as the other four Rangers came running in.

“ A time traveling alien has been sent to downtown New-Tech City. He must be prevented from traveling back in time and retrieving the Dino Gems of the former Dino Thunder Rangers,” Cruger stated plainly.

“ SPD Emergency!” the five Rangers shouted as they brought out their morphers and pressed the morphing buttons.

Once morphed, the five hopped into and on their vehicles before revving them up and driving swiftly away from the SPD headquarters.

Reefside; October 20th, 2005

Dr. Tommy Oliver was leading a lecture on the disappearance of the herbivores during the last few years of the dinosaurs, when an announcement suddenly came across the school’s sound system.

“ Attention, students and faculty. An alien creature with the appearance of a clock and frog mutated together has appeared outside the school. Stay inside. I repeat, stay inside and do not venture outdoors. Dr. Oliver, come immediately to the office, and bring four of your students with you,” Principal Elsa Randall said before shutting the microphone off.

Dr. Oliver called on Kira Ford, Trent Fernandez, Conner McKnight, and Ethan James; they followed at a swift pace as he made his way – worriedly – to the office.

Rushed. Very rushed. Slow it down. Good idea for a fic though.

True, very true. That's exactly what I thought when I first started reading it. But it is a pretty cool idea and I like the situations. It's just that the first three paragraphs are rushed. Have the reader hooked up through the first few chapters by NOT saying flat out what happened. Make hints, but don't tell.

But good job so far, :023:

Principal Randall was waiting in the office, wringing her hands nervously together.

She sighed when she saw Tommy and the others entering the office.

“ What did you summon us for, Elsa?” Tommy wanted to know.

“ I know you’re no longer Rangers, but I must ask that you try to find out everything you can about this monster. He isn’t from this time period, so be careful."

" Some of my skills from my evil days will definitely come in handy,” she said as she took off her glasses and followed the five former Rangers out into the school yard.

The creature grinned evilly at them.

“ Ah, just the people I was looking for. Hand over the Dino Gems and I won’t destroy your entire city!” it screeched.

“ Please, like we haven’t heard that one before. And who are you to be ordering us around?” the former yellow Ranger sneered.

“ I am Tick-Tock McGlock, and I’m your worst nightmare come true!” it screamed as it rushed the former Rangers and the former evil villainess.

They prepared to do battle, readying their fists and their bodies as they creature got closer and closer.

It hit with the force of half a dozen Tyrannodrones, and they were taken aback a bit, letting the monster get the upper hand.

* * * * *

I watched from the classroom window as Dr. Oliver, Principal Randall, and four of my classmates fought bravely against the evil monster.

I’d not seen an evil monster in months, since Mesogog was finally destroyed by the Dino Thunder Rangers.

And that destruction of the evil villain had been at the cost of the Rangers’ powers, a sad thing for them, but a good thing for the city – perhaps the world.

I winced as the six people were hit and hit hard by the creature.

My heart nearly stopped when Dr. Oliver came a hairsbreadth away from being brained on the back of the head by the monster’s huge rocky-looking fists.

Few of my other classmates could bear to watch the fight, so they opted for acting like everything was pretty much normal, save for our teacher’s absence.

I was a bit disgusted by this, to tell the truth, and so barely noticed the way the monster was sneaking up on a fallen Dr. Oliver and Principal Randall.

I shoved open the window and jumped out, grabbing the heavy sledgehammer from under the window – there’d been construction on this side of the school for the past few days – as I ran.

“ Leave them alone!” I screamed as I smashed the hammer against the creature’s head.

The hit jarred my arms rather badly, and I nearly lost my grip on the hammer as the creature fell flat on its butt.

I quickly checked on Dr. Oliver and Principal Randall, then turned to face the monster myself as my four classmates gathered around me and the fallen adults.

“ You shouldn’t be out here, Meagan. Get back inside,” Conner ordered me, but I shook my head.

“ Huh uh. This guy ain’t gonna mess with our teacher and principal and get away with it,” I boldly informed him as the creature got back to its feet.

I changed my mind after it fire a bolt of energy at us; I tossed the hammer to Conner, moving to help Principal Randall get Dr. Oliver back to the classroom.

I’d nearly made it when a blast hit me squarely in the back, sending me flying to the ground.

I looked up weakly as Principal Randall leaned down to help me up.

“ Get – him – inside,” I rasped before passing into oblivion.

The five SPD Rangers arrived on the scene in flashes of colored light just in time to see Tick Tock McGlock blast the young teen in her back.

They bolted into action, Yellow and Pink hurrying to check on the girl and the other civilians while Blue, Green, and Red immediately began to fight the alien.

“ Get the adults inside, quickly,” Pink ordered the teen students as she and Yellow knelt over the teen on the ground.

“ She looks my age,” Yellow said sadly, wincing when she saw the extent of damage the alien’s blast had done to the teen civilian.

“ We can still help her, but we’d have to take her back to our time,” Pink said, prompting Yellow to take out her SPD Morpher.

“ Commander Cruger, we have an injured civilian, due to the alien’s blasting her in the back. Requesting permission to bring her back with us,” Yellow said into the morpher.

“ Permission granted, Elizabeth. But we may not be able to take her back, so leave a note with the nearest civilian saying we’ve taken her to an out of country doctor,” Cruger replied.

“ We need Sky to bring her back there in his zord. Please send it through. Sydney out,” Pink said as she ran over to tell Sky to stay with the girl while she and Yellow joined their other two comrades.

Sky’s zord momentarily appeared, and he gently picked the girl up before powering up into the zord; he preferred riding the tubes at headquarters and entering the zord than he did using this method, but it was currently the only option.

He saw a large portal opening over the city, so he flew the zord for it, zipping through before an invisible barrier went up around it.

Meanwhile, the other Rangers were barely getting by fighting the monster without his help.

Jack – aka Red Ranger – managed to blast the creature to the ground just before it could hit Yellow – aka Elizabeth.

“ I charge you with illegally traveling through time and trying to steal the Dino Gems of the former Dino Thunder Rangers. Let’s see if you’re guilty or not,” Red said as he held out his morpher and the red and green X and O began to flash back and forth.

Finally, the red X lit up, and no longer flashed.

“ Guilty as charged. Lock him up, Yellow,” Red ordered her as he put away his morpher.

She did as he said, hitting the monster with a ray that locked it into a card of sorts.

She quickly grabbed the card and handed it to Red, who stored it away as he turned to his teammates.

“ Back to headquarters for debriefing, you guys,” he told them as they all hurried for the portal over the city.

They used their teleporting power to get to the top of the building where the portal was located, then they went on through the time portal, just as it closed behind them.

When they came through the other side of the portal, they were in the command room. Commander Cruger was standing before them, an expectant yet sad look on his face.

“ Why the long face, Commander? We capture the criminal,” Jack said with a smile, indicating he’d not paid attention to the hurt civilian.

“ A civilian from that time period was hurt, Jack. Rather badly, I’m afraid, and she was brought back here. Kat is treating her now, but we had to inject her with some of the serums we recently acquired from that compound we discovered near Los Angeles,” Cruger informed the group.

Kali_WolfChilde
03-27-2005, 08:20 AM
“ You mean that compound from the people that called themselves Genomex?” Sky questioned.

“ The one with the genetic-altering serums on those encrypted files?” Sydney queried.

“ Yes to both questions. We don’t know how they’re going to react to her system. And it’s possible she’ll resent us when she finds out she can’t return to her time without the help of another time traveling alien similar to the one that nearly killed her,” Cruger told them with a solemn look on his face.

“ Sorry for my apparent uncaring manner, Commander Cruger. It won’t happen again,” Jack apologized.

“ Forgiven, Jack. Dismissed,” Cruger said.

The Rangers were just about to leave when the alarms went off again.

They hurried to the main viewing screen to find the A-Squad Rangers attacking part of New-Tech City again.

“ SPD Emergency!” they said as they morphed once more and took off for the city. Back in the command room, Commander Cruger had a worried look on his face.

“ I hope they can win against A-Squad. By the spirits of my fallen planet, I will do anything in my power to help them do so,” he whispered aloud to no one in particular.

Twenty minutes later found the Rangers back in their separate bedrooms.

The attack had been a diversion for some Krybots to steal half of another shipment of diamonds to power some unknown machine of Emperor Grumm’s.

Jack tossed a tennis ball against the wall of his room, then caught it and repeated the measure over and over again, until Kat walked by the room with Sky and the other Rangers behind her.

“ We’re going to check on the sick girl. Kat gave us permission. Want to come with?” Elizabeth questioned him. He tossed the ball onto the bed and got up to follow them.

“ Is she really that bad off?” Jack tentatively asked as they approached the door to the main SPD sick room.

“ I’d say she’s that bad,” Bridge sadly said when they all saw the various machines hooked up to the teen.

“ Yow, I thought she was hurt, not near death,” Sky murmured under his breath.

“ I could’ve told you that much,” Sydney said as she watched a few doctor’s assistants check the girl’s vitals.

“ Can she hear us?” Bridge wanted to know.

“ If she can, she’s not responding,” was Kat’s reply.

“ How long will she be unconscious or in a coma?” Elizabeth questioned.

“ It’s hard to say. Could be a few days, could be a few weeks. Now I need to get in there and check on her myself again. Go back to your rooms, rest awhile. Doctor’s orders,” she said with a smile as she walked into the sick room and the doors whooshed shut behind her.

The Rangers did as she said, and soon they were all asleep.

* * * * *

The next day, the Rangers went out to practice their daily routine with the rest of their squad.

“ Man, I still can’t believe we traveled through time and brought back someone with us,” Jack muttered as he crawled through the small pipe in front of him, using his trained speed to get through in a minute; it took that long because of the pipe’s twists and turns.

Kali_WolfChilde
03-27-2005, 08:21 AM
“ Yeah, me neither,” Elizabeth put in as she followed Sydney and Sky through the pipe. Bridge had already gone through ahead of the others.

“ I wonder what living as a teenager fifteen years ago was like. Maybe we could ask her when she wakes up,” Bridge piped up.

“ I think we should all realize the seriousness of this situation. It’s likely Grumm will send the A-Squad Rangers after her. At least, I think so. That means we have to protect her with everything we have. She’s our responsibility,” Sky told the others with a grave face.

“ We know that, Sky,” Sydney blandly informed him.

They straightened up when Boom came towards them.

“ Commander Cruger wants to speak with you five about another training exercise in headquarters,” the young man told them all before walking away again.

The five Rangers got themselves cleaned up before they went to meet Cruger.

“ Cadets, I called you here with the excuse about a training exercise, but in truth I called you here for a different matter. Kat, the Patrol Morpher please,” he told the doctor, and she handed him a device very similar to the morphers the Rangers themselves had.

“ Hey, that looks like ours,” Bridge excitedly said.

“ Are you promoting one of us or something?” Elizabeth questioned Commander Cruger.

“ No, Elizabeth, I’m not. This is the Patrol Morpher. It has incredible powers within it, powers that must be harnessed by a qualified candidate. And I believe that candidate is in the sick room being treated right now,” the dog-like Commander said with an apparent smile on his face.

“ What? You want to make that girl a Ranger when she wakes up? Not to question your judgement, but are you sure about that. She has no SPD training, Commander,” Sky spoke up.

“ I’m sure, Sky. The new powers she will inherit from the serums we used on her will only help her to be a better Ranger and SPD cadet. We brought her into this time period; now we have to train her to live in it. Any more questions?” Cruger wanted to know.

“ Um, yeah. Do you have any idea – since a day has passed already – as to how long she’ll be out?” Bridge put in.

“ She should be awake within a month, Bridge. No longer than that, possibly less, but not much less,” Kat spoke up as she put the Patrol Morpher back in its place and left.

“ As to the reason I chose to bring this morpher out now, if the A-Squad Rangers are to be too much for you, even with your Swat Armor, then you must have extra help in your fight against Emperor Grumm’s forces. Dismissed for now,” Cruger said.

The Rangers saluted before going back to their exercises.

The girls and guys split up, each set going to do different required exercises with the rest of their gender of the B-Squad cadets.

“ I wish there were something we could do to help the girl out, don’t you?” Bridge said to Sky as they practiced their martial arts moves on each other.

“ Yeah, I do, but we can’t do anything without Commander Cruger’s or Kat’s permission. It’s a wonder the girl’s not dead,” Sky replied as he flipped Bridge onto his back.

The Green Ranger retaliated by doing a leg sweep that brought Sky down beside him.

The two flipped to their feet and continued their exercises.

“ Do you think the girl will be more powerful than us?” Sydney asked Elizabeth.

“ I don’t know, Syd. I’d think Commander Cruger would want to pass out equal powers, not just give a newbie automatic super-Ranger powers,” Z replied as she and Sydney practiced with their Civilian Blasters on the nearby targets.

Each Ranger stilled when they heard Commander Cruger talking to them via their Morphers. They took them out and Jack held his up.

“ Jack here. What’s the emergency?” he asked.

“ Jack, the young girl is having seizures. The serums we used on her are causing it. I need you and the other Rangers to come here and use your Ranger influences to calm her down,” Commander Cruger ordered him.

As exercises were nearly over anyway, the five Rangers went into the sick room to do as they’d been told.

Bridge was rather upset when he saw the teen convulsing on the table, and he used his psychic tracking abilities to determine that an evil spirit was trying to grow inside the girl.

He told this to Kat, and she used an extraction device to remove the spirit.

The girl still continued to convulse, so the Rangers placed their morphers in the slots on the nearby console. It lit up with the Rangers’ energies, then directed the energy at the girl.

She unconsciously groaned in pain as the energy filled her, then slumped back against the table when the energy beam went off.

The Rangers replaced their morphers in their pockets, their eyes trained on the girl.

“ I’ve got to continue watching her around the clock. Thanks for the energy beam, you guys. And thanks for doing that scan on her, Bridge. You may very well have saved her life, as well as the lives of everyone here at headquarters. If that spirit had manifested itself, it would’ve gone to work for Emperor Grumm,” Kat informed them all.

* * * * *

Another month had passed since the Rangers had first received their SPD Morphers, making it only a month since they’d brought the teen civilian back from the year two-thousand five.

Kat had since moved her into her own cadet room, and had it fixed up for her as well.

Even with being by herself, the girl didn’t wake up.

Kat was worried as she tended the young girl and checked her vital signs.

It was twelve o’clock, the dinner hour for the cadets, and she’d been hoping the girl would wake up so she could get some good, solid food and some real fluids into her body.

She was just about to leave when the girl’s hand suddenly lashed out and grabbed her wrist.

“ Where the hell am I?” the girl questioned.

* * * * *

I woke up with a start, reaching out to grab the wrist of the woman who was about to leave the room.

I remembered bits and pieces of the past month, and this woman was a key figure to getting my full memory back.

“ You’re at SPD headquarters. Let me get Commander Cruger,” she said as she took out a small device from a coat pocket.

“ Commander, she’s awake,” she said into the device before putting it back into her pocket.

Kali_WolfChilde
04-02-2005, 04:57 PM
I sat up and waited patiently, and finally the door opened.

I was expecting a young or middle-aged man in a black-gray suit to walk in; I wasn’t expecting a blue-skinned dog-looking alien to enter the room.

I yelped and jumped to the other side of the bed, glancing fearfully at the alien.

“ Yipes! You associate with aliens? Wait a minute – those things coming from your hair – you’re an alien too! Where am I, really?” I demanded to know, backing up even more when Commander Cruger started to come around the bed.

“ You’re at SPD headquarters in New-Tech City. It’s the year two-thousand twenty, and we brought you here to keep you from dying in your time,” the dog-like alien informed me.

“ Yeah, right. I’m fifteen years in the future, and I’m able to shoot water at that plant,” I snorted.

To illustrate the fruitlessness of my point, I gestured at the plant; I wasn’t expecting water to suddenly appear around the plant’s stem and then sink into the soil.

“ So, the serum works. Good, it will be helpful to you, and to us. Come with us, and we will get you some breakfast. The other SPD cadets will be glad to see you. But first, slip this uniform on,” the female alien said as she handed me a mostly black uniform.

I glared pointedly at them, forcing them to leave before I’d even think about undressing and putting the uniform on.

It felt kinda funny, yet it was an exact fit.

The door opened just as I finished adjusting my hair, so I followed them away from the room.

A black guy in a uniform similar to mine came up to us, his eyes traveling the length of my body.

“ I’m Jack Landors, of the B-Squad Cadets. Pleased to meet you,” he said as he held out his hand.

I shook it as I smiled for the first time since waking up.

“ I’m Meagan Walker, Jack. Nice to meet you. Am I really in the year two-thousand twenty like the big blue dog said?” I wanted to know.

“ Yes, Commander Cruger spoke the truth. Commander, I’d like permission to escort our guest to dinner,” Jack said to Commander Cruger.

“ Permission granted,” Cruger said.

Jack saluted him in a way I thought was kinda funny, but I mimicked the gesture anyway before following Jack down the hallway and into an elevator.

“ So, what’s this place really like? Is a school or something?” I wanted to know as the elevator stopped and we exited into a huge cafeteria-like room.

“ Yeah, it is. It’s the SPD Academy headquarters. SPD stands for ‘Space Patrol Delta.’ There are A-Squad Cadets, B-Squad Cadets, and C-Squad Cadets. I’m part of B-Squad, as you will be if Commander Cruger decides you can and want to be trained,” Jack replied as many people stopped doing what they were and turned to stare at me.

“ Umm, okay. But why should I become a cadet?” I wanted to know.

“ To help us fight Emperor Grumm and his forces,” Jack told me as four other people came over to us and got in the line behind us.

“ Meagan, this is Sky Tate, Bridge Carson, Sydney Drew – also known as Syd – and Elizabeth Delgado – also known as Z. Guys, this is Meagan Walker, our new teammate,” Jack said by way of introduction.

“ Hey, Meagan. Nice suit. That color looks great on you,” Syd said to me.

“ Thanks. Pink definitely looks like your color, too. Matches your eyes. Yellow matches Z’s hair, Red matches Jack’s personality, Blue matches Sky’s features, and Green matches Bridge’s seeming innocence,” I said by way of compliment.

“ Say, are you in the mood for pizza? It’s not that different from what they had fifteen years ago,” Bridge spoke up.

“ Oh, man, that’s my favorite food!” I exclaimed as we finally came to be served.

I picked what kind I wanted, then picked dessert and whatever else I wanted.

For a beverage I had a bottle of coke. I sat at a table with the five people I’d been introduced to.

“ So, tell us about yourself. If you don’t mind, that is,” Elizabeth requested as she bit into her veggie pizza.

“ Well, it’s a long story, but here goes….” I started. I told them everything, from my first moment of kindergarten, to spraining my tailbone in the third grade, to smacking my fist across a bully’s jaw in tenth grade.

They laughed at that part, then took turns telling me about their lives.

I surmised that, if I’d stayed in my time, I’d be about thirty-two years old by now.

“ You seem pretty interested in this time period, yet sad at the same time. Why?” Sky wanted to know.

“ I like being in the future without having aged and all, but I hate the fact that I can never go back to my own time. I’ll miss my teacher, Dr. Oliver, and my classmates,” I mused as I quietly sipped my soda.

“ Well, we could ask Commander Cruger to let us go visit that town. Reefside is only a thirty minute drive away from here, and I know for a fact Dr. Oliver still teaches at Reefside High School,” Bridge piped up.

“ Really? You guys would do that for me?” I excitedly asked.

“ Sure, we owe that much to you for having taken you away from your family,” Jack said.

“ Oh, I was an orphan, living on my own. But I’d still like to see my town – well, now it’s my old town – again. Let’s go ask your Commander if we can go,” I said as I stood up.

“ Okay,” Bridge said as he and the others finished their food. We put our empty trays on the table with the other empty trays, then I followed the group down several hallways and into what looked like a communications lab or something.

“ Commander Cruger, we would like to request a leave of absence in order to take Meagan to see her old town. She wishes to know how everything turned out after she left the past,” Jack spoke up.

“ I don’t know about that,” Commander Cruger said, just as the alarms started blaring in the room.

I jumped a bit, looking around as the six hurried over to a viewing screen of sorts.

“ Well, permission granted. Looks like Grumm sent a group of Krybots to steal the Gems from the high school library, where they’re on display.”

I was puzzled as the five cadets took devices from their pockets. They thrust them out in front of them and all shouted, “ SPD Emergency!” My eyes widened when they actually morphed into Power Rangers!

I couldn’t believe the people I’d so casually been talking with were Power Rangers. It was so unbelievable I didn’t believe it until Jack-Red turned to me.

“ We’ll have to take you there anyway, because we may need your help in the battle,” he said as he grabbed my hand. I gulped down a knot of fear as we hurried through what looked to be a nearby portal.

Coming out on the other side, I saw that we were right outside the school.

An older Dr. Oliver, Principal Randall, Kira, Conner, Ethan, and Trent were fighting the creatures.

I hid behind a tree as the Rangers moved into action, my heart thudding as Sky stayed behind with me, to guard me I guess and make sure I stayed safe.

I was majorly pissed that this Emperor Grumm – whoever the hell he was – was trying to steal the very Gems that’d once assisted the Dino Thunder Rangers in protecting the city.

And I was also majorly surprised when Sky handed me a device similar to the one that he’d used to morph into the Blue Ranger.

“ Commander Cruger thought you’d want this. It’s the Patrol Morpher. Use the same morphing call and moves we did to morph,” he told me before joining the fight.

I gulped nervously as I copied the exact movements he and the others had used.

“ SPD Emergency!” I shouted, morphing into a Ranger myself.

It stunned the living daylights out of me, so much so that I nearly got beaned on the head by a flying Krybot.

“ Oh, you guys are so gonna regret messing with the town of Reefside!” I shouted as I unsheathed the sword at my side and dived into the fray.

I seemed to be everywhere, at least it seemed like that to me.

I finally came to stand still a few minutes later, breathing hard as I watched my teammates fighting the Krybots with their own weapons.

I also saw a Krybot knock Dr. Oliver down and take a black rock from him.

“ Oh, no you didn’t just do that,” I snarled, pointing my sword at the Krybot.

A bolt of black-silver lightning was unleashed, instantly turning the Krybot into a heap of ruined technological space trash.

I hurried over and picked the black rock up before helping Dr. Oliver to his feet.

“ Here you go, Dr. Oliver. Don’t let the other Dino Gems get taken; get inside where it’s safe. Me and my teammates will take care of these Krybots,” I informed him, taking a moment to see how fifteen years had treated him.

“ Okay. Thanks, Ranger,” he said before hurrying to help the others get inside.

A Krybot sneaked up on me and knocked me to the ground, smashing its fist against my back.

The suit protected me somewhat, but it still hurt like hell.

Anger coursed through my veins, and I flipped to my feet, smashing my fist halfway through the creature’s chest before yanking it out again.

The Krybot fell to the ground, ruined, as two more took its place. I tried to bring my sword up in time, but once again I was knocked to the ground.

The two simultaneously fired reddish colored blasts point-black at my suit, and I felt pain explode beneath my suit.

I did manage to strike one in the chest before I was unable to fight back, but the other fired point-blank at me again, causing more pain to blossom and causing me to demorph back to my human form.

I was only saved from being killed by Sky using another sword of sorts.

He used it to block the Krybot’s weapon, then knocked it away with a knuckle-looking weapon. He helped me to my feet, telling me to go through the portal that’d appeared behind me.

I hesitated for a split second before a blast from the side knocked me through anyway; I landed back in the command room, right at the feet of Command Cruger.

Embarrassed and in pain, I climbed back to my feet.

“ I’m sorry I was a failure, Commander Cruger, but I have not the training – nor the expertise – in order to fight worthily by my teammates sides,” I said with a pained sigh.

“ You did well for a person with no training, cadet. I know that with time and extensive training, you will come to be a great fighter. Until then, keep the Patrol Morpher by your side. Don’t let it out of your site. Dismissed,” he said before turning back to talk with another young man.

Kat came over, offering to lead me back to my room, an offer I gladly accepted.

“ You know, now that you’re a part of the SPD Academy, you’ll be expected to follow their rules and daily regimens. You won’t have to start immediately, for you’re still recovering from your initial injuries. I’ll ask Commander Cruger to give you a few weeks to rest up before you join the others in a full workout schedule,” she said as we walked down the halls together.

“ That’s awfully nice of you, Dr. Kat. But what can I do about clothing? All I have are the clothes I had on my back when I got here, and those are a bit worse for the wear I do believe,” I mused aloud as we stopped before a doorway with “ SPD Cadet Meagan Walker” printed on the door.

We entered it, and she showed me over to the closet.

“ We provided you with a full wardrobe when you first arrived. Your Ranger and policing services will be payment for your training and your clothing, as well as your food and any other expenses incurred on your part."

" The bathroom is through that door. If you’ll excuse me, I have to talk to Commander Cruger now,” she said before turning to go.

I said goodbye before telling the door to close.

Nearly exhausted, I went to the closet and picked out a black-silver pair of really cool jeans, a black shirt, and a gray pair of socks.

Underclothes were in the drawers in the closet, so I took some out before heading into the bathroom.

The shower was as technologically advanced as the rest of the place – that I’d seen so far – and I merely had to program the settings in order to enjoy a nice, warm shower.

My sides and stomach hurt from taking those point-blank blasts, so it took me awhile to finish the shower, and ten minutes to fully towel dry.

After that, I slipped into the clothes and socks, then lay down on the bed in the room.

I was rather tired, and quickly fell asleep. I’d only intended to doze off for a few hours, but the next thing I know Syd and Z are waking me up for breakfast.

My sides were still hurting, but I was still hungry.

I got dressed in the uniform similar to the ones they wore, then followed them quickly back to the cafeteria, memorizing the way there and the way back by noticing names on the doors and the halls.

* * * * *

A month passed of me being at SPD headquarters, making it nine months since my teammates had first become Rangers.

Even though not fully trained, I’d still had to assist them in a few battles, especially a particularly hard one against the A-Squad Power Rangers.

My training had been progressing rather well, and I was beginning to learn how to properly use my Shadow Saber.

Using my powers was a bit harder, for controlling the elements in my favor was sometimes hard work in battle.

When not in battle, controlling the elements was merely fun.

This was especially so when Syd, Z, and I wanted to play tricks on the guys of the group. Of course, the guys always got us back in practice or by using Jack’s de-molecularizing skills to pass through the walls and scare us while we were trying to sleep.

I absolutely loved playing Light Ball, using my minute powers over light to send the ball away from hitting me several times. I got headaches from using my powers to often, sometimes, so I tried not to act too silly when in a happy mood.

Right now, I was practicing some martial arts moves in my room, twisting and turning as imagined a group of Krybots trying to attack me.

I was so into my routine that I nearly decked Sky when he came into the room.

“ Oops, my bad. Sorry about that,” I said as I straightened my clothing before turning to look at him.

We’d been kinda weird around each other lately, and I’d developed a rather big crush on the boy in blue.

“ It’s okay. Listen, Meagan, I came here to ask you something. And it’s – well – it’s rather serious. To me, that is,” he sorta stuttered as we sat together on my bed.

“ Yeah? So, whatcha need to talk about?” I asked as I used a towel to mop up the few beads of perspiration that had formed on my forehead.

“ Well, I wondering if you – if you would – I was wondering if you’d be my girlfriend,” he sorta stuttered again. My mouth dropped open in shock.

“ Say what now? You want me to be your girlfriend? Are you really serious?” I questioned in disbelief.

“ Never mind, it was a stupid question,” he said as he got up to leave.

I jumped up after him, grabbing his wrist in the process.

“ No, wait. It wasn’t a stupid question, Sky. People from my time period acted a little bit differently than you do today when they got surprised or didn’t believe what they heard. But in answer to your question yes. Yes, I’d be happy to be your girlfriend,” I informed him as I grinned from ear to ear.

This caused him to smile, and he gave me a quick hug.

“ That’s good, cause I already bought you a gift. It’s on its way now,” he said, just as a knock came on the door. “ Enter” he told whoever it was outside.

Syd, Z, Jack, and Bridge entered; Bridge and Jack were carrying two small towel-wrapped packages, and the packages were moving.

Curious, I went over and unwrapped the gift Jack held.

“ A puppy! Oh my gosh! And another one – Sky, you shouldn’t have!” I exclaimed as I sat on the floor and the puppies were set down beside me.

Immediately, they scrambled over and began to lick my hands and face.

Sky sat on the floor with me, as did the others, and we played a miniature game of fetch with the puppies; some activities with man’s best friend will never change.

“ So, what’re you going to name them?” Syd wanted to know.

“ Oh, I don’t know. I think I’ll call the girl Star. The boy I think will be called Shadow. They’re Black Labradors, aren’t they?” I asked my new boyfriend as the puppies began to try tugging the balls away from Bridge and Z.

“ Yes. I thought you’d enjoy the gifts. Do you like them?” Sky queried.

“ Like ’em? I love ’em,” I told him before hugging him tightly and returning to playing with the puppies.

“ Good. They’re already trained, so they won’t go in your room, and will let the nearest person know if they have to go out my grabbing onto their pants leg. I bought them from the pound that trains dogs for SPD purposes,” Sky told me.

“ Cool,” I said with a smile.

That smile vanished when Commander Cruger summoned us to the command room via our morphers.

I had one of the other off-duty cadets take the dogs to her room next door to mine while I followed Sky and the others.

When I saw Commander Cruger’s face, I immediately became worried.

“ What’s wrong, Commander?” I asked him.

“ The A-Squad Rangers have been spotted again in the warehouse district. They’re trying to draw all of you out, I can sense it. I want Jack to take everyone with him and meet them, but I want Meagan to stay here and wait to see if anything else comes up,” Commander Cruger ordered us.

I gave Sky another hug, then stepped back beside Commander Cruger as my teammates morphed and left.

as usual, cool story.

“ Is there another reason why you wanted me to stay here, Commander?” I nervously asked him.

“ Yes. I know for a fact that Emperor Grumm is sending a dozen Krybots to try and steal a shipment of special rocks from Africa. That shipment is supposed to be going by here any minute, and he’s foolishly allowing the Krybots to come after it,” Commander Cruger told me.

“ Think I should go ahead and suit up?”

“ Yes.”

“ Okay,” I said, taking my morpher out. “ SPD Emergency!” I shouted, morphing into the Shadow Ranger.

Once this was done, I waited around for further orders. My mind was racing; since becoming a Ranger, I’d not yet had to fight alone. And I was very nervous about my first alone fight – very very nervous.

My head whirled around to face the viewing screen as the alarms began blaring. The screen bought up an image of a dozen Krybots attacking a rather large eighteen wheeler truck.

They tossed the drivers from the truck, then used their hand blasters to blast the back doors of the truck open.

I took that as my cue, and quickly ran outside, flipping through the air and delivering a high kick to a Krybot’s chest, causing sparks to fly and it to fall – ruined – to the ground.

“ This stuff belongs to Hightower’s Jewels, and you’re obstructing justice. Back off or face the power of the Shadow Ranger,” I warned them. as I’d expected, they immediately came for me.

I withdrew the Shadow Saber and moved into the battle stance Jack had taught me to use before going into a fight.

It worked rather well, and I took down ten Krybots before I was thrown to the ground.

Flipping to my feet and whirling around, I expected to see an ugly Krybot behind me; I didn’t expect to see an Orange Krybot there.

“ Uh oh,” I said before I was thrown through the air to land up against the side of the eighteen wheeler truck.

My back smarted with the impact, and the truck got dented in the process.

“ I should’ve known this was a trap,” I muttered as I painfully climbed back to my feet.

“ Surrender now to me and Emperor Grumm will let you live and join his forces,” the Orange Krybot said in a nails-on-chalkboard voice.

“ Uh, nuh. No way, Jose,” I snorted as I charged the Krybot with all my power.

It started to blast me again, but I used my powers to block the blast, jumping up and over its head at the same time I fired a volley of powerful blasts at the things neck.

This caused a few wires to short out, but the fight was far from over as the thing suddenly charged me a third time.

I grunted and ground my teeth as I was hit multiple times.

The Shadow Saber fell from my hands, and the Krybot’s hands closed around my throat.

“ You shall pay for your insolence!” It screeched as it proceeded to choke the life out of me.

I opened my eyes wider when Sky suddenly smashed his weapons against the Orange Krybot’s head, knocking it to the ground and forcing it to release its hold on me.

“ Keep your hands off my girlfriend,” he snarled underneath his helmet.

I coughed a bit as I straightened up and picked up my saber.

“ Let’s finish this,” I told him, and we moved in on the Orange Krybot together.

Eleven full months had passed since Jack and the others had first become Rangers, making it three months since I’d become one.

I’d battled Orange Krybots, Blue Krybots, and regular Krybots – as well as the occasional monster.

I’d even assisted the others in fighting against the A-Squad Rangers, in several fights, actually.

And in those fights I’d learned many things, namely that it was never fun to fight against your own kind – especially when the opponent is almost a better fighter than you are.

In my case, I was just there as a distraction, to help the others fight.

It made me feel bad that I wasn’t a full team participant in these battles, but I was glad to be alive and be doing my part as a Ranger.

It was a privilege, one – that Boom reminded me quite often – I shouldn’t take for granted.

And I didn’t; I was quite glad to be able to do my duty as a citizen of New-Tech City, and a B-Squad cadet at the SPD Academy.

Even now, I was practicing my daily routine of playing Light Ball with Sky and the others in one of the workout rooms in headquarters. Sky threw the ball at me, but I used my power over light to deflect the blast.

Then I used my power to draw the ball back to me, and used a quick toss of the ball to knock Sky out of the game.

He threw me an I’m-gonna-remember-that-the-next-time-you-want-a-kiss look, then quickly sat down in his blue bean-bag type chair as the rest of us finished playing.

It came down to me and Jack, and I was quickly knocked out, leaving him the champion for the day.

I would’ve challenged him to another game if the alarms hadn’t started blaring, signaling that we needed to hurry to the command room.

We found Commander Cruger pacing back and forth in front of the main viewing screen.

“ Rangers, Emperor Grumm has sent the A-Squad Rangers to launch an all-out attack on us. they’re not stopping at anything, even harming innocent civilians and their own former A-Squad fellow cadets."

" You must stop them, at all costs. Meagan, you must go with them. Use your training and powers to your fullest advantage,” he ordered me.

As one, my teammates and I withdrew our morphers.

“ SPD Emergency!” we all shouted, morphing into our Ranger forms.

That done, we quickly got into our SPD vehicles – Jack, Bridge, and Sky on their Patrol Cycle; Syd and Z in the Patrol Cruiser; and me on my Shadow Patrol Cycle.

We drove out of there like a bat out of hell, soon arriving on the SPD practice grounds, where the attacks were going on.

“ Freeze, you’re under arrest!” Jack shouted from under his helmet.

“ Hah! Like we’ listen to you. Look you guys, it’s the second-best Red Ranger!” A-Squad Red Ranger shouted to his teammates.

I could feel Jack tensing to fight, so I stepped forward.

“ We are the B-Squad Rangers, A-Squad Red. But even though Jack is the second Red Ranger, he’s the best. As they always say, save the best for second or last. And A can stand for lots of things in A-Squad Rangers,” I added with a sarcastic grin under my own helmet.

I could feel the shock running from my teammates.

“ How dare you show insolence towards us! You’ll pay dearly for that, Shadow Ranger,” Red sneered as he jumped at Jack.

I paired up with Sky against A-Squad Blue, and we began a vicious battle.

My teammates used their armor, but it still wasn’t enough, and soon we were backing away from my teammates’ former idols.

“ We can’t beat them. We’ve got to retreat,” Bridge whispered to the rest of us as a slightly battered A-Squad looked on.

“ We can’t, we’ve got to keep them away from headquarters. Use your full powers to stop them if you have to,” Jack told the others.

“ But that might kill us,” Syd protested.

“ Then we’ll die heroes,” Jack retorted.

“ You won’t have to,” I told them as I stepped forward.

With a quick slam, I shoved my Shadow Saber into the ground, halfway up the sword’s blade.

“ Power of the elements, I call unto thee. Help us beat A-Squad, as is our destiny,” I whispered as a huge wind suddenly sprang up.

Debris began gusting through the area, and from every direction it hit the A-Squad Rangers. I refused to back down, continuing to chant as knowledge of how to beat them began to trickle in.

“ Come forth, spirits of the brave slain. Come back – and show us – how to fight and win again,” I intoned.

A single red warrior, clad in a space-looking suit, appeared, zooming around the A-Squad Rangers as the wind and debris continued to assault them.

“ There,” it said, pointing to the fronts of their helmets.

I told my teammates what to do, and they struck as one, smashing the symbols on the A-Squad Rangers’ helmets. This caused the wind to briefly pick up, but the debris disappeared, as did the Rangers’ suits and weapons.

“ Time to face final judgement. Do you surrender to our authority, or do you wish to continue fighting?” Jack questioned them.

“ We – will – not – fight – anymore,” Red rasped out. I took out my morpher, as did Sky.

Regretfully, we captured the Rangers on data cards, storing them away for the day that they would face their individual trials, for each had committed crimes without the others on more than one occasion.

After debriefing with Commander Cruger, I went back to my room.

I was in desperate need of a shower to calm down my nerves.

That fight had taken more out of me than usual, and I felt the need to wash myself of the reminder of my fight.

I sighed as I climbed beneath the eight jets set into the wall.

It was luxuriously comfortable, and I hummed a tune I remembered from my time period. After bathing, I got out and dried off, then slipped into a pair of gray sweats and a short-sleeved light black t-shirt.

My hair dried thanks to my power over heat, and I walked back into my bedroom – just as Sky was entering through the bedroom doors.

Star and Shadow ran over to him, licking his hands playfully before returning to my side. I sat down on the bed, inviting him to do the same.

“ Sky, what brings you here? I thought you’d be practicing or reading a book or something,” I mused as I started at him. God, but I loved my boy in blue!

“ I’m a little concerned at how you powered that attack earlier. You look a little tired,” he said as he put his arm around my shoulders.

Kali_WolfChilde
04-11-2005, 04:35 PM
“ I am, I must admit it. But I had to do it. I just felt this – this need. A need to protect my friends and teammates. And the boy in blue, the guy I like,” I added with a small smile.

“ Meaning me, I assume?” he questioned playfully.

“ Oh, you. You know full well I’m crazy about you. Have been since I first saw you. Something about you just demands my attention, calls me to you,” I whispered as I put my hand in his.

“ I felt something for you when I saw how badly injured you were. It was pity then, now I can’t fully describe what it is,” he informed me.

We were about to kiss on the lips – it would’ve been our first one since becoming boyfriend and girlfriend – when Commander Cruger summoned us to the command room.

I smiled and let Star and Shadow follow us as we went to the command room.

The others were already there, and Z shot me a knowing look as if to say “I know what you two were going to do before we were summoned. You were gonna kiss, weren’t you.”

“ What is, Commander Cruger?” I asked as I stood at attention.

“ I summoned you to thank you for a job well done. You have done well in capturing A-Squad. I especially want to thank you, Cadet Meagan Walker."

" You’ve done this Academy proud by acting in the selfless way you did. It was very brave of you. As for the rest of you, I must repeat my earlier words."

" Job well done. I had feared for you, at first, but now I see you’re a true Ranger team. Dismissed,” he said with a seeming smile on his dog-like features.

We all saluted, then went our separate ways. Jack challenged Sky and the others to a game of Light Ball, so I took Star and Shadow back to my room, where I laid down tiredly on the bed.

My eyes closed, and I didn’t even notice when my two dogs hopped onto the bed on either side of me and dozed off with me.

* * * * *

When I woke up again, I was surprised to find myself in the main SPD sick room. Kat was just coming towards me, and smiled when she saw me beginning to sit up.

“ Glad you’re awake now, Meagan. You gave us quite a scare there,” she said as she checked my vitals on the machines beside my bed.

“ What do you mean? I was only out for a few hours,” I mused.

“ Meagan, you were out for a full month. You went into a short coma after you fell asleep. Sky found you in a trance-like sleep state when he checked on you an hour after you fell asleep,” she informed me as she unhooked the tube from my arm.

“ Wow. That’s a little hard to believe,” I murmured.

“ Believe it, Meagan,” Sky said as he and the others surrounded my table.

Commander Cruger looked the most relieved to find me awake.

“ Glad to see you’re not gonna be asleep any longer. We missed having you around to play Light Ball, and Bridge missed having someone to play cards with,” Jack said with a happy smile as he stared at me.

“ I hope that you’ll not try to overdo it as you did when you fought the A-Squad Rangers, Cadet. That was a rather nasty scare you gave us,” Commander Cruger told me.

“ Yeah, sorry sir. I was protecting my teammates. I’ll continue to protect them, sir, but I’ll try not to overdo it anymore,” I replied as I saluted him and tried to stand up.

Kat protested mildly against this, but I refused her offer to remain in the sick room for a few hours.

Kali_WolfChilde
04-11-2005, 05:16 PM
“ Nah, I think I can handle myself. Besides, I need to get back into the swing of things. Can’t let something like this get me down, can I?” I half-heartedly wanted to know.

“ No, you can’t. I agree with her there, Kat,” Syd said with a smile on her face.

“ I’m glad someone agrees with me on something,” I muttered half-jokingly as I made my way slowly – and with Sky’s help – back to my room. When I said I wanted to take a shower, I nearly smacked him when he jokingly offered to help.

“ Just kidding,” he said with a laugh as I made to smack him upside his head.

“ Yeah, you better be just kidding,” I warned him as I hurried into the bathroom and shut and locked the door.

It was an old habit of mine, one I’d not given up even when no one else was in my bedroom.

Since I kept an extra pair of lounging clothes in the bathroom, I went ahead and stripped and got into the shower. The spray from the jets soothed my nerves, and I turned on some music from my time on the radio player built into the wall opposite the jets.

It was a song I really enjoyed, Usher’s “My Boo.” After that, I programmed in Josh Gracin’s “Nothing To Lose”, humming along as I washed my body from head to toe.

Other songs came on the station as well, but I really didn’t pay attention to them.

After washing my feet, I got out and dried off, then hurried into my clothes before walking out into the bedroom. Sky was sitting in a chair watching TV, as were the others; guess they’d gotten tired of playing Light Ball.

I asked as much, and they confirmed my guess, their eyes on the TV.

Wondering what they were watching so intently, I sat on the bed, surprised to see six Rangers – dressed in costumes exactly like our suits – battling a monster that I’d never seen before.

“ This is a show from Japan. They’re the Sentai Deka Rangers,” Bridge explained to me.

“ Yeah. Rather similar to us, I do believe. Somehow, they even got the toy weapons to look exactly like our real ones,” Syd mused aloud.

“ And they even copied the usage of the morphers to communicate, judge, and morph. Plus the Swat Armor,” Z put in.

“ It’d kinda weird,” Jack piped up.

“ I agree,” was all I said as I watched the Rangers on the screen battling the monster.

I was surprised at how similar the fight was to the actual ones we had with the monsters Emperor Grumm sent down to attack New-Tech City and other cities here on Earth.

The show was just going off when Commander Cruger sent an urgent summons to us.

We turned the TV off, I hurried into my SPD uniform, and we walked hurriedly to the command room. I’d never seen the Commander look so worried in all the time I’d been at SPD headquarters.

“ What is it?” Jack wanted to know.

“ This,” Commander Cruger said, turning on the main viewing screen.

I gasped in shock when I saw the Krybots and Blue Krybots attacking innocent civilians in the city. Three monsters were also there, using various attacks to destroy cars, trees, and anything that they fancied to destroy.

My teammates and I didn’t hesitate.

We withdrew our morphers as one and shouted, “ SPD Emergency!”

Once morphed, we got into and on our individual vehicles, riding away from headquarters as fast as we possibly could.

I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that Emperor Grumm was using this attack as a distraction so he could pull off a bigger heist.

That was put out of my mind as I engaged the first of the regular Krybots, my Saber flashing through the air so fast that even I barely kept track of what direction I headed it in.

Kali_WolfChilde
04-11-2005, 05:19 PM
Once the regular Krybots were taken out, the Blue Krybots were next.

My teammates handled the fight better than I did, but I still held my own against Grumm’s evil forces. When it came to the three monsters, Bridge teamed up with Syd, Jack teamed up with Z, and Sky teamed up with me.

We fought as one, our weapons flashing through the air as we fought, got knocked down, then got back up to fight again.

After we nearly destroyed the monsters, they summoned their own robot, powering up into it once it arrived on the scene.

This prompted my teammates to summon their own Megazord, and I watched as the fight between the giants escalated into a full-out firefight, in which my teammates had trouble keepin their Megazord on its feet.

I huffed angrily as I summoned the Megazord that my teammates and I normally shared.

It was tough navigating the giant Megazord by myself, but I just managed.

I couldn’t keep myself from cheering after we destroyed the monsters’ robot, and we all powered down to the ground.

The monsters were rather badly beaten up, and my teammates and I were close to being exhausted. Sky took out his morpher, and with three quick blasts captured the monsters in containment cards.

This done, we congratulated each other as we headed back to headquarters on our vehicles.

We arrived in the command room rather quickly and demorphed as we handed Kat the containment cards.

“ Sir, we’ve destroyed the last of Emperor Grumm’s monster. Mora is injured, and is not able to currently create any more monsters for Grumm. Sir, I do believe we’ve won,” Jack stated proudly.

“ You’ve won the battle, Jack, but not the war. While you were engaged in battle, our sensors detected the Emperor Grumm used an extra stolen prototype battery to exit this galaxy."

" He’s disappeared, and I have no idea when or if he’ll be back. for now, I’d like to congratulate you six on beating the toughest villain this world has ever seen. On behalf of New-Tech City, I give you this reward,” Commander Cruger said as he took out six little identical different-colored badges and handed them to us.

“ What’s this mean?” Jack wanted to know.

“ These – these are A-Squad badges. Commander, are you saying what I think you’re saying?” Sky asked as he examined his badge.

“ Yes. I’ll be needing your B-Squad badges, for you’ve just been promoted to A-Squad,” the Commander informed us.

Jack grinned broadly and promptly hugged Z. Sky hugged me, and Bridge hugged Syd.

We all cheered happily, congratulating each other on a job well done.

The world had been saved thanks to us, and we’d been promoted because of it. I’d say that that’s a job well done, and a major accomplishment for anyone. Wouldn’t you?
