Well, here it is, my first real attempt at writing a fan-fic. Sorry if it's a bit long winded. I'm working with a lot of backstory here. Also note that the ranger action won't start until probably the end of Chapter Two. So you'll all have to suffer through the introductory chapter for now. :023: Anyway, feedback will be greatly appreciated. I'll be posting up character profiles soon.
Power Rangers: Mystic Force
Chapter 1: Awakening
-----------------------------
“Please, someone, help me!” the young boy screamed.
He was running as fast as his legs would carry him, but he had the feeling that it wouldn’t be fast enough. The alley was dark, and the creatures were closing in on him fast. He afforded himself a quick glance backwards, to look at the creatures chasing him. They had silver bodies, golden heads, and seemed to be carrying staves of some sort.
He rounded a corner, hoping to find a place to hide. Much to his dismay, however, all he saw in front of him was a dead end. He turned around to see his pursuers, five of them, closing in quickly. The boy backed up against the fence separating him from safety. He looked up, hoping to find a way to climb the fence. Unfortunately, the fence was much too high for him to climb.
He looked ahead again, to see that his pursuers were right in front of him. One raised his weapon, preparing to send the boy to an early demise. The boy brought his arms up to his face and closed his eyes. Tears streamed down his face as he prepared to die. Suddenly, he heard a loud “thud”.
It took a couple of seconds for him to realize that the sound was not that of the creature hitting him. He uncovered his face and opened his eyes to see that his pursuers were lying on the ground in a pile, their robotic bodies mangled and crushed.
Standing over them was a figure in red. A figure the boy would never forget. The figure turned around to face him. He was clad in red, with white boots, white gloves, and a helmet. A red helmet with a star shaped visor.
“You…..you’re…..Zeo Ranger 5”, the boy stammered.
Zeo Ranger 5 approached the boy. "Are you okay?" he asked, holding out his hand to help the child to his feet.
The boy simply nodded, still in awe of the man in front of him.
“What’s your name?”
“L….L….Leon”, the boy muttered.
“Leon, you should be more careful out here. It’s dangerous, especially with King Mondo around”
Leon nodded.
“Now, how about a ride home?” the ranger asked Leon.
Leon smiled and nodded happily.
As Leon and the ranger walked towards the ranger’s motorcycle, Leon heard a loud buzzing noise. Suddenly the world around him changed. The walls of the alleyway seemed to vanish. Leon looked around, and saw his room. He glanced to his side and saw the source of the buzzing.
“Seven o’clock already?” he groaned, as he shut off his alarm clock. He got out of bed and quickly threw on a shirt.
“Seems like every time I have that dream, I wake up late”, he muttered.
It had been just over ten years since Leon had been saved by Zeo Ranger 5. And since then he had never forgotten that night. He had followed the exploits of the Power Rangers ever since. The walls of his room were covered almost completely with newspaper clippings documenting various times the Rangers had saved the Earth. He had been dreaming about the night ever since it had happened. As of late, though, the dreams were getting more frequent.
As Leon walked into the small kitchen his apartment was supplied with, he heard his cell phone ring. He took it from it’s charger on the kitchen counter and looked at the caller ID. It read:
Michaels, Scott
234-555-8032
“Wonder what the hell Scott wants this early in the morning” Leon said to himself.
“Hello?” Leon said, answering the phone.
“What’s up, man?” the voice on the other end said.
“Not much”, Leon replied, “What’re you doing up so early?”
“Couldn’t sleep. So, what’re we doing after class today?”
“Well, I’m probably going to visit the museum again. Wanna come?”
“Again? This’ll be like the third time this month, man. Give it a rest.”
“Look, are you coming along or not?” Leon replied.
“Ok, ok, you win. I’ll call Sarah; see if she wants to come. We’ll meet over at the park right after class.”
“Sounds good. Later, man.”
“Later”
Leon hung up the phone and grabbed his jacket from where it lay on the arm of the couch. As he walked towards his front door he glanced at one newspaper article in particular, framed and hanging above his television. The headline read:
“MUSEUM BUILT AT FORMER SITE OF POWER RANGER’S HEADQUARTERS”
About a year after Divatox’s forces had destroyed the Turbo Ranger’s command center, the remains were discovered by a cartographer. After the government was done poking around the site, collecting any technology they could find, the city of Angel Grove officially declared the ruins a historic landmark. Then about six months later, a museum dedicated to the Power Rangers was built around them. Leon found himself visiting the museum quite often, sometimes dragging Scott and Sarah along with him, most of the time against their will.
As Leon closed the door behind him he felt raindrops hitting his face.
“Damn”, he cursed under his breath.
As he pulled up the hood of his jacket he heard the sound of a car’s horn. He looked back to see Sarah’s car just a few feet behind him.
“Get in”, she yelled out her window.
Scott smiled and ran towards her car. As he got in the passenger side she smiled at him semi-mockingly.
“When were you planning on getting your own car again?” she asked.
“As soon as I can afford it” Leon replied.
Leon, Scott, and Sarah had been friends since second grade. When Scott and his family moved away after their junior year of high school, Sarah and Leon began to grow closer. The only thing that had kept Leon from asking Sarah out was the knowledge that Scott had feelings for her as well. It had taken Leon their entire senior year to get the nerve to ask her out. However, the day before he planned on asking, Sarah and Leon got the news that Scott was moving back to Angel Grove to attend college. And on top of that, he was now the legal guardian of his younger sister Erica, as his parents had died in a car accident two months earlier. Leon felt extremely bad for Scott after hearing the news, and decided it best not to ask Sarah out, as it might make Scott feel even worse.
“Scott called me a minute ago”, Sarah said as they drove towards Angel Grove University, “So, the museum again, huh?”
“You know, you don’t have to go if you don’t want to”, Scott replied.
“Oh, no, it’s great”, Sarah replied, “Really, I don’t mind it at all. I just think Scott’s getting a bit tired of it.”
Leon shrugged and turned to look out the window. As he did, he saw a bright streak flash across the sky.
“That flash looked like it was going in the direction of the museum….” he thought.
“Did you see that?” he asked Sarah.
“See what?” asked Sarah, eyes fixated on the road.
“Never mind” Leon replied.
As they pulled into the University parking lot, Leon shuddered.
“What’s wrong?” asked Sarah.
“Nothing”, Leon replied, “Just got an eerie feeling for some reason. Like something’s about to happen.”
“It’s probably nothing”, said Sarah, “Now let’s hurry up, or we’ll be late.”
Leon nodded and walked towards the University’s main hall. He still couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right…..
