Author's Note: HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday, and I hope you're ready for things to get real heated up on Beast Roar. Also keep your eyes peeled for the movie "Rise of the Dark Star". Without further adieu, here's the next installment.....
(Scene) Oak Hill High School
Another day has ended and the students were leaving for the day. Everything seemed the same a usual, except today Derek was waiting for a ride instead of getting into his ride. Derek stood on the curb in front of the building wearing a red t-shirt, blue jean shorts, white hightop sneakers, and carrying his jean backpack. Lionel, who wore a baby blue jacket with a white tee underneath, some black jeans, and some white sneakers, was heading out of the building when he passed Derek standing on the side.
Lionel: Hey man, I thought you'd be gone by now.
Derek: I would, but I have to wait for my moms to pick me up today.
Lionel: Wait a minute, your moms is picking you up today?
Derek: I know it doesn't sound right. I let her hold my truck today because her car was in the shop.
Lionel: Well I'll catch you later, you're still coming to the Star this afternoon, right?
Derek: I'll see if I can still make it.
Lionel: Aight then, I'll see you then.
Lionel headed into the parking lot to his truck, where Natalie was standing waiting for him; she was wearing a red shirt, black jeans, and black sneakers. They both got in and pulled out of the parking lot heading home. Derek continued waiting as other students continued leaving.
An hour later Derek was still waiting for his mother to come. By this time pratically most of the students had left campus. He looked at his watch and realized that she was late arriving.
Derek: Come on mom, where are you?
Suddenly two explosions erupted beside him throwing him to the ground. He looked around to see where the attack was coming from, he saw in front of him Zyon and behind him was a team of 5 Hell Hounds; they had their Battle Axes drawn.
Zyon: I don't think you'll be going anywhere, Red Ranger.
Derek: This is a first, I see you've decided to use Demonus' Hounds.
Zyon: It's a change, but one that will bring you demise.
Derek: Haven't I heard that one before?
Zyon: You shall pay for your snide comments, attack and destroy the mortal!!
The Hounds raced towards Derek to attack him. He wanted to morph, but he wouldn't dare risk someone in the school seeing him and finding out his identity. He ducked one of the Battle Axes that were swung at him and side kicked a Hound in his chest to the ground, He spun around another attack and jump kicked one Hound into the arms of two awaiting Hounds. He then leapt towards them and landed a hard kick to the Hound the two were holding and knocked them to the ground on their backs. One of the Hounds was able to grab him from behind and tightly hold his arms. As he tried to break free he saw another Hound race towards him to slash him, but he ducked out of the arms of the other Hound in time for the approaching one to slash him across the chest. Derek took the open oppurtunity to uppercut the unexpected Hound.
Zyon: You may have overtaken the Hounds, but I shall not be as easy!!
Zyon unleashed his Saber and fired energy bolts at Derek blasting him to the ground. He fired another round of energy bolts, but this time Derek jumped up and rolled out of the way. Zyon continued to fire his energy bolts and Derek continiued to dodge and roll out of the way of the attacks. Suddenly Derek heard a female voice call out to him.
Woman: What are you doing to my son!!
Both Derek and Zyon turned to find where the voice was coming from. Standing a few feet away was a tall Caucasian female wearing a gold and brown dress, golden flats, and had curly brown hair; it was Mrs. James, Derek's mother.
Derek: Mom get out of here, it's too dangerous for you to be here!!
Mrs. James: What's going on.
Zyon: If I can't get you, I'll get the one that's closets to you.
In slow motion, Zyon turned towards Derek's mother and fired three energy bolts. Derek raced as fast as he could to prevent his mother from being blasted, but he was too late. The energy bolts struck the ground around her throwing her through the air and against the side of Derek's trucl to the ground. Derek looked on in horror as his mother fell to the ground, he turned to attack Zyon, but he had already teleported away from the scene. Racing to his mother side, he fell to his knees and looked down at his mother's motionless body.
Derek: Momma....I...I'm so sorry.....I didn't mean to hurt you.
Derek cradles his mother's head in his arms as the people inside begin racing out to see what the commotion was all about.
Derek: Somebody...please help me!!
(Opening Credits)
(Act One)
(Scene) Life and Mercy General Hospital
Doctors and nurses could be seen rushing down the hallway with Mrs. James on the stretcher. She has respirators hooked to her body, burn marks were on her arms and face. Some of the doctors were even talking about having to take her to the ER. Derek had ridden on the ambulence to the hospital, but of course wasn't permitted beyond certain doors. He couldn't bear to be away from his mother's side, but he knew he had to follow the orders of the hospital staff. He went into the waiting room and sat downuntil someone came to report anything about his mother's condition.
Derek sat with his head hanging down towards the floor in deep thought and conviction, thinking that somehow this tragedy was his fault somehow. Minutes later he looked up to see Lionel and Bethany racing through the waiting room doors. When they located him they sat next to him.
Lionel: Hey man, we heard what happened. Is everything all right with her?
Derek: Nah, they haven't told me anything since they took her into the back room.
Bethany: I heard that you were attacked.
Derek: Yeah, Zyon appeared with a gang of Demonus' Hell Hounds. I had them beat, but then my moms showed up and was caught in the middle. Before I knew anything Zyon had blasted her to the ground.
Just then one of the doctors came out of the back room with a clipboard in his hands. They all stood up to see if he was to bring some news concerning Mrs. James.
Doctor: Excuse me, I'm looking for Derek James.
Derek: That's me, how's my mother?
Doctor: She's going to pull through, she was badly injured, but we were able to seal up the wounds. There no major interior damage, but it was a good thing you got her in here quickly. Had she still be on the scene for any more length of time, she wouldn't have made it.
Derek: Can I go see her now?
Doctor: Not just yet, give us five more minutes to place her in a room and then you can come and see her.
The doctor returned into the back room, while the guys sat down in the chairs. Derek looked more downtrodden than before. The guys were curious as to why he was looking like that since the doctor came to give them some good news.
Bethany: Derek what's wrong, the doctor said your mother's going to be fine.
Derek: Bethany, it was my fault that she's in the there in the first place.
Lionel: How can you say that man?
Derek: 'grabs his Beast Gem' Ever since I accepted this thing it's brought me nothing but pain and heartache. Now it's cause serious harm to the person I care about. Maybe I should just give this to Kyle and give it up.
(Scene) Mountain Area/ Dark Lair
Zyon had returned to the Dark Lair to the expected looks of both Demonus and Byrox.
Byrox: I knew that you weren't going to win even with those worthless blood hounds helping you.
Zyon: You see that's where you're wrong. The purpose of me using the Hounds wasn't to help me defeat the ranger, but to experiment on how I can defeat him.
Demonus: In what way did that become successful?
Zyon: I have found the ranger's strongest weakness that can be a major flaw in their demise.
Byrox: What flaw could that be?
Zyon: The rangers will do whatever they can to protect the other mortals of Earth. I prove that when he tried to protect his earthly mother from being attacked. If he's willing to put his life on the line for his mother, then I know they all will do it for the lives of the entire planet.
Demonus: A great idea, exploiting the lives of the human race to obtain something that we want; namely the Beast Gems.
Zyon: Precisely.
We get a close look at Zyon's face as he pulls down his dark shades to reveal his full black eyes and his long white fangs as he reveals a devious smile across his face.
(Scene) North Star Entertainment Center
Derek sat with the others inside the Cosmic Cafe just staring off into the air. He couldn't help but think that it was somehow his fault that his mother was laying up in the hospital fighting to hold on to her life.
Lionel: Come on man, your moms is going to be all right.
Bethany: You have nothing to worry about, she's a fighter and she will pull through this.
Derek: Oh really, can you gurantee me that?
Bethany: I know you seem to think that this is somehow your fault, but there was no way that you could've prevented Zyon from attacking.
Derek: Yes, there was one way
Bethany: What way is that Derek?
Derek reaches into his shirt and pulls out his Beast Gem and holds out before him.
Derek: By never accepting the responsiblities this thing had to offer.
Lionel: Don't even talk like that. We were all chosen to become Power Rangers.
Derek: How come no one asked me whether or not I wanted to be a Power Ranger. It's like this thing just showed up and interrupted our lives and ever since then it's been nothing but trouble ever since.
Bethany: D, you must understand that power, this great, is going to come with some greater responsibilities. It wouldn't have chosen you if it didn't believe that you were the one that could handle the responsibilities that came with being a ranger.
Derek: Well, these responsibilites have just landed the very one I loved the most in the hospital. I'd rather give this up then to have to watch another person leave my life.
Derek gets up from the table, takes the Beast Gem off from around his neck, places it on the table and quickly leaves the Center.
Bethany: Lionel go after him, he doesn't know what he's doing.
Lionel: Don't worry I'll see if I can talk some sense into him.
Lionel quickly gets up from the table as well and races after Derek. Bethany is left to sit in the booth holding Derek's Dragon Gem in her hands.
(Scene) Construction Site
Derek was half way down the street from the Center crossing in front of a massive construction site. Lionel had finally caught up with him and had managed to stop him.
Lionel: Come on Derek, don't quit the team. You can't quit, we need you we can't possibly defeat Demonus and his goons without you.
Derek: I can't possibly stand by and watch another life get taken.
Lionel: We knew these risks were going to come long before that incident happened. We knew that somehow they would find a way to get to the ones we loved.
Derek: I know, but I just didn't think it would hurt this much.
Lionel: I had to learn that same lesson when the Entertainment Center first got blown up. I felt that these Gems were nothing more than mere bad luck charms, but my eyes were opened to realize that when I took on these powers they weren't going to be easy getting use to. No, it's not easy especially when its close to the ones you love.
Derek: How do I get over this?
Lionel: That's the beauty of it, you don't have to go through it alone.
Zyon: Ah isn't that so touching?
The two teens turned to see Zyon and Byrox standing with a gang of Hell Hounds.
Zyon: Well human, are you ready for round two?
Derek: I'm ready for anything you can throw at me.
Derek got ready to morph, but forgot that he laid down his Gem on the table back at the Cosmic Cafe.
Byrox: Now it's time to put you out of your misery. Hell Hounds give our friends a good working out.
The Hounds charged at Derek and Lionel causing them to race into the construction site. They both got to a dirt cliff and front flipped down to the ground below. Some of the construction workers were about to inform them that they weren't suppose to be in the area, but when they saw who was following them, they began turning tails and running for their dear lives.
Derek: I left my Gem back at the Cafe.
Lionel: Don't worry I have an idea, you can handle the Hounds without your powers. I'll handle dumb and dumber in ranger.
Derek: Sounds like a plan to me. I'll split and head left, you can head right allowing me to lure the Hounds away from you.
Lionel: All right we'll break at this crossing path.
When they reached the path that crossed theirs Lionel broke to the right and headed down the second path while Derek continued down the same path with the Hounds following close behind him. Zyon and Byrox stood atop the site and watched as the Hell Hounds chased after Derek.
Byrox: Look at how he tries to run away from the battle.
Zyon: Maybe if we made it a little more interesting.
Blue Ranger: You'd be wise to keep your focus on the things around you instead of down below.
Byrox: If it isn't little boy blue.
Blue Ranger: Oh you're so going to pay for those words.
Zyon: Bring it on ranger!!
Blue Ranger: With pleasure.
Down below the Hounds had lost track of Derek, they were frantically searching for him. They all gathered in an open area of the construction site and started looking around, but they still couldn't find a trace of the teen. In a crane a few feet away Derek is seen climbing inside and switching it on, before the Hounds could move in time, Derek had managed to swing a girder on the end of the crane towards the Hounds and knocked them through the air out of the construction site. Derek climbed out and placed his hand over his eyes to see just ow far he had knocked them away.
Derek: They're going, they're going, they're going, and they're out of here!!
Just then Derek heard some struggle sounds and battle noises. He turned to the top of the site and saw that Blue Ranger wasn't fairing too well against Byrox and Zyon. Byrox had slashed him in his chest with his Saber to the ground.
Byrox: Hey Red Ranger, I heard you had a problem protecting someone you really loved. I guess you fail again, here's another person you can add to your list.
Byrox and Zyon stood next to each other and placeds their hands together. With a conservative amount of energy they both fired a dark blue fireball at Blue Ranger blasting him off the dirt cliff to the ground a few hundred feet below. He laid on the ground motionless before he demorphed back to Lionel. Derek quickly raced to his friends aid and saw that he was badly injured. He looked up to the top of the cliff to see that the two had already teleported away from the site.
Derek: Oh man, hold on Lionel, we're going to get you back to the Chamber.
Derek begins helping Lionel from the ground.
(Scene) Mystic Chamber
Lionel laid on the MedBed while Kyle looked over him. Bethany and Derek stood to the side and waited for any news that Kyle had about their friend's condition.
Derek: Well, how's he doing Kyle?
Kyle: He's going to be alright. He was just banged up and had a few cuts and bruises.
Derek: This is just great another person that means something in my life is badly hurt.
Bethany: Don't blame this on yourself Derek, there was nothing you could've of done.
Kyle: She's right, you were busy with the Hell Hounds. You couldn't help Lionel and stop the Hounds at the same time.
Derek: Either way it goes someone else got hurt and I can't stand for someone else to get hurt anymore.
Derek quickly turns and runs out of the Chamber. Bethany goes to run after him, but Kye catches her by her arm and stops her.
Bethany: What are you doing, we have to go after him and convince him that it's not his fault.
Kyle: Right now he needs time alone. Trust me he'll understand it soon, but right now he needs to find that out for himself.
Bethany: I sure hope you're right about that Kyle.
(Commercial Breaks)
(Act Two)
(Scene) The James House
Back the James House, Derek sat on the front room couch looking through some photos of his mother, father, and himself when he was just a little boy. He saw and remembered the wonderful times they all had before they both seperated. Now he was kicking himself for making a decision that has caused his mother to be badly harmed. He sat looking at the book of photos with tear filled eyes.
Derek: Mom, I'm so sorry that I got you involved in this whole mess. My stupidity may now have cost you your life.
He quickly closed the book and threw it against the wall knocking some of the other pictures down to the floor. Derek grabbed a pillow that was next to him and buried his face and began releasing sobs of tears.
Derek: I..I'm so sorry....momma.
(Scene) Mountain Area/ Dark Lair
Byrox and Zyon walked into the throne room where Demonus sat waiting for them.
Demonus: Well, how goes this plan of yours?
Zyon: It went marvelously, the Red Ranger is beginning to doubt whether or not he should even be a ranger.
Demonus: Again explain to me why you wanted him to feel this way?
Byrox: By causing the ranger to feel inadequate about his abilities and reasons for being a ranger, he will be of no good use for the others.
Zyon: If we were to strike now the rangers would fall down so quickly they wouldn't know what hit them.
Demonus: How do you propose to do this?
Zyon: My brother and I will draw them in with a fake monster attack. We know the Red Ranger won't arrive, which will leave the other three vulnerable to our attacks.
Byrox: When they are at their weakest we will then combine our attacks and destroy them.
Demonus: Your plan does sound interesting and well thought out, but what guarantee do I have that it won't be like the last few ideas you two have had?
Zyon: I assure you Demonus that those rangers are going to see their nightmares come to past. Nothing will be able to protect them, not their Beast Gems, that wannabe Sage, or their zords.
(Scene) Mercy and Life General Hospital
Derek goes back to the hospital to visit his mother. He sits in her room next to her bed and looks at her breathing through a respirator. Derek couldn't stand seeing his mother this way, even though they didn't talk to each much, this was the person that meant the most to him in his life. He now felt hopeless, even with his Dragon Gem, he felt that he couldn't do anything to help her now. He sat next to her with his hands grasping hers.
Derek: Momma, I'm sorry that you got caught up in all of this. I never meant for it to be this way. I thought that by me becoming a ranger it would help solve problems not creating worse ones.
Derek gets up and walks toward the window and looks out among the other buildings of the city. Some were still being repaired from previous battles. He knew in his heart that it was he and the others that helped caused the devestation.
Derek: I can't believe that just saving the world could cause so much destruction. We're just as guilty as Demonus for this mess happening. I can't risk hurting another human being, I think it'll be best that I step down from being the Red Dragon Ranger.
He turns back to face his mother and walks to the other side of her bed and leans over to kiss her forehead.
Derek: That way I can spend time with the ones that I love. I'm sure the others can manage without me.
(Scene) Mystic Chamber
Kyle continued adding compresses to Lionel's head as he sat up on the medical bed. He still felt woozy from his encounter with Byrox and Zyon at the construction site.
Lionel: Man, why do I feel like a mac truck slapped me every which way but right?
Kyle: You were lucky to get out of that battle alive at all.
Lionel: Where's Derek?
Bethany: He left again. I think he might give up being a Power Ranger.
Lionel: He can't do that, we can't win this battle without him.
Kyle: Lionel's right, the team must be whole if we're to stand any kind of chance against Demonus. Somehow we must convince Derek that he's not to blame for what happened to his mother.
Lionel: I think I now where to find him.
Just then the computer systems began blaring the alarm. The rangers raced to the monitors to see a large alligator monster attacking people in the center of town.
Kyle: I guess we're going to have to wait talking to Derek. There's more pressing concerns to deal with. You guys ready?
Lionel and Bethany: Ready!!
They all stand in morphing positions with Kyle being in the center, Lionel to his right, and Bethany to his left.
All Three: RELEASE THE POWER OF THE BEAST!!
Lionel: BLUE LION, RANGER POWER!!
Lionel morphs into the Blue Lion Ranger.
Bethany: YELLOW HAWK, RANGER POWER!!
Bethany morphs into the Yellow Hawk Ranger.
Kyle: WHITE WOLF, RANGER POWER!!
Kyle morphs into the White Wolf Ranger.
(Scene) Downtown Oak Hill
The gator monster marched through the streets to city spewing out streams of intense flames at anything or anyone he saw. He fired a stream of flames at a car and completely reduced it to scrap metal. He turned to a police vehicle and fired two fireballs at it causing it to explode.
Alligator Monster: I'm going to reduce this whole city to ashes in no time!!
White Ranger: We don't think so!!
Alligator Monster: Huh?
The monster turned around to look behind him and is slashed across the chest by White Ranger's Timber Axe. The attack sent the monster crashing to the ground. When he finally got up he saw that he was being confronted by the three rangers.
Alligator Monster: You're going to pay for that cheap shot.
Blue Ranger: Show us what you got, lizard breath.
Alligator Monster: Oh, don't worry, I will.
The monster opened its mouth and spewed a large stream of flames at the rangers, but they were able to leap out of the way of the attack. Blue and Yellow Ranger drew their Beast Blasters and fired upon the monster blasting multiple times into his body. The monster fell to the ground and instantly disappeared. The rangers became baffled by this sudden turn of events.
Yellow Ranger: Where did he go?
White Ranger: Be careful guys this feels like some kind of trap.
Out of nowhere a whistling sound could be heard heading straight for the rangers. Two explosions erupted all around them throwing them to the ground. They slowly stood to their feet wondering who caused the attack, but they didn't wonder long as Byrox and Zyon appeared on the scene.
Zyon: You were right about one thing, it is a trap.
Byrox: The gator creature was just a diversion to get you fools to come down here. Now that you are here, we shall destroy you.
White Ranger: Please, get over yourselves, you haven't beaten us yet and you never will.
Zyon: Oh you see that's where you're wrong. Today we show you a new side of ourselves that you will regret having to see.
Yellow Ranger: If it's your ugly side, too late we've all ready seen that.
Byrox: When we're done with you, we'll see if you'll keep that smart mouth of yours. Come brother let's show them the results of a combined effort.
Zyon: I'd love to.
The two joined hands and lifted their other hand into the air and began chanting aloud.
Both: POWERS OF DARKNESS AND OF THE NIGHT, GIVE US THE POWER THAT WE MAY UNITE!!
Their bodies began glowing and changing instantly. Byrox glowing a dark teal and Zyon a dark purple began merging their bodies into one being. Once their bodies were linked the merger caused a bright flash of light to appear which almost blinded the rangers.
Blue Ranger: What's going on, what do they think they're doing?
The light dissipated and now standing where two once stood was a larger and buffer form of the two. The being looked like Byrox and Zyon, but he was a few feet taller, his arms were more muscular and he wore a sleeveless trenchcoat; but he still had the trademark black shades.
???: Well rangers how do you like the new and improved us?
Yellow Ranger: What are you?
???: Well little lady you can call us Byronox.
(Scene) Mercy and Life General Hospital
Inside the hospital room Derek had his head down on the side of the bed and was taking a little nap. He was soon awakened by some stroking his hair, he saw that it was his mother.
Derek: Mom, you're awake, how do you feel?
Mrs. James: I'm alright, just a little soar that's all.
Derek: Mom, I'm sorry that this happened to you.
Mrs. James: Don't blame yourself, things happen that are beyond your control. Life has a way of throwing curve balls at us, but we must be strong enough to handle them when they come.
Derek: It's because of me that you were attacked in the first place.
Mrs. James: Why, because you decided to become a Power Ranger?
Derek: Huh?
Mrs. James: I heard you speaking earlier and you shouldn't blame yourself for helping to protect the lives of others.
Derek: It just seems like we're doing more harm than good.
Mrs. James: What's better, to have a few bumps and bruises or to be totally destroyed by this meance all together? If someone doesn't stand up to these intergalactic beings attacking us, then no one will. You're not the first ranger that's had to face this problem. I'm sure the others rangers around the world faced the same situation in the cities that they protect. You and team you're with are the ones chosen to protect us here in Oak Hill. You can do it Derek, there's nothing you can't do if you would just reach inside of yourself and tap the strength within.
Derek: Are you sure about that momma?
Mrs. James: I'm positive.
Derek: All right momma, I'll give it another try.
Mrs. James: That's my baby, don't let it get you down.
A loud blast was heard coming from outside. Derek raced to the window and looked out to see from a distance the rangers battling against what looked like a newer version of Byrox and Zyon. He could see that the being was mopping the floor with the other rangers. The others couldn't even lay a finger on him without being kicked, punched, or lasted to the ground.
Derek: Oh no the guys need me, but am I strong enough to do it?

Woman: What are you doing to my son!!
Both Derek and Zyon turned to find where the voice was coming from. Standing a few feet away was a tall Caucasian female wearing a gold and brown dress, golden flats, and had curly brown hair; it was Mrs. James, Derek's mother.
Derek: Mom get out of here, it's too dangerous for you to be here!!
Mrs. James: What's going on.
Zyon: If I can't get you, I'll get the one that's closets to you.
In slow motion, Zyon turned towards Derek's mother and fired three energy bolts. Derek raced as fast as he could to prevent his mother from being blasted, but he was too late. The energy bolts struck the ground around her throwing her through the air and against the side of Derek's trucl to the ground. Derek looked on in horror as his mother fell to the ground, he turned to attack Zyon, but he had already teleported away from the scene. Racing to his mother side, he fell to his knees and looked down at his mother's motionless body.
Derek: Momma....I...I'm so sorry.....I didn't mean to hurt you.
Derek cradles his mother's head in his arms as the people inside begin racing out to see what the commotion was all about.
Derek: Somebody...please help me!!
(Opening Credits)
(Act One)
(Scene) Life and Mercy General Hospital
Doctors and nurses could be seen rushing down the hallway with Mrs. James on the stretcher. She has respirators hooked to her body, burn marks were on her arms and face. Some of the doctors were even talking about having to take her to the ER. Derek had ridden on the ambulence to the hospital, but of course wasn't permitted beyond certain doors. He couldn't bear to be away from his mother's side, but he knew he had to follow the orders of the hospital staff. He went into the waiting room and sat downuntil someone came to report anything about his mother's condition.
Derek sat with his head hanging down towards the floor in deep thought and conviction, thinking that somehow this tragedy was his fault somehow. Minutes later he looked up to see Lionel and Bethany racing through the waiting room doors. When they located him they sat next to him.
Lionel: Hey man, we heard what happened. Is everything all right with her?
Derek: Nah, they haven't told me anything since they took her into the back room.
Bethany: I heard that you were attacked.
Derek: Yeah, Zyon appeared with a gang of Demonus' Hell Hounds. I had them beat, but then my moms showed up and was caught in the middle. Before I knew anything Zyon had blasted her to the ground.
Just then one of the doctors came out of the back room with a clipboard in his hands. They all stood up to see if he was to bring some news concerning Mrs. James.
Doctor: Excuse me, I'm looking for Derek James.
Derek: That's me, how's my mother?
Doctor: She's going to pull through, she was badly injured, but we were able to seal up the wounds. There no major interior damage, but it was a good thing you got her in here quickly. Had she still be on the scene for any more length of time, she wouldn't have made it.
Derek: Can I go see her now?
Doctor: Not just yet, give us five more minutes to place her in a room and then you can come and see her.
The doctor returned into the back room, while the guys sat down in the chairs. Derek looked more downtrodden than before. The guys were curious as to why he was looking like that since the doctor came to give them some good news.
Bethany: Derek what's wrong, the doctor said your mother's going to be fine.
Derek: Bethany, it was my fault that she's in the there in the first place.
Lionel: How can you say that man?
Derek: 'grabs his Beast Gem' Ever since I accepted this thing it's brought me nothing but pain and heartache. Now it's cause serious harm to the person I care about. Maybe I should just give this to Kyle and give it up.
(Scene) Mountain Area/ Dark Lair
Zyon had returned to the Dark Lair to the expected looks of both Demonus and Byrox.
Byrox: I knew that you weren't going to win even with those worthless blood hounds helping you.
Zyon: You see that's where you're wrong. The purpose of me using the Hounds wasn't to help me defeat the ranger, but to experiment on how I can defeat him.
Demonus: In what way did that become successful?
Zyon: I have found the ranger's strongest weakness that can be a major flaw in their demise.
Byrox: What flaw could that be?
Zyon: The rangers will do whatever they can to protect the other mortals of Earth. I prove that when he tried to protect his earthly mother from being attacked. If he's willing to put his life on the line for his mother, then I know they all will do it for the lives of the entire planet.
Demonus: A great idea, exploiting the lives of the human race to obtain something that we want; namely the Beast Gems.
Zyon: Precisely.
We get a close look at Zyon's face as he pulls down his dark shades to reveal his full black eyes and his long white fangs as he reveals a devious smile across his face.
(Scene) North Star Entertainment Center
Derek sat with the others inside the Cosmic Cafe just staring off into the air. He couldn't help but think that it was somehow his fault that his mother was laying up in the hospital fighting to hold on to her life.
Lionel: Come on man, your moms is going to be all right.
Bethany: You have nothing to worry about, she's a fighter and she will pull through this.
Derek: Oh really, can you gurantee me that?
Bethany: I know you seem to think that this is somehow your fault, but there was no way that you could've prevented Zyon from attacking.
Derek: Yes, there was one way
Bethany: What way is that Derek?
Derek reaches into his shirt and pulls out his Beast Gem and holds out before him.
Derek: By never accepting the responsiblities this thing had to offer.
Lionel: Don't even talk like that. We were all chosen to become Power Rangers.
Derek: How come no one asked me whether or not I wanted to be a Power Ranger. It's like this thing just showed up and interrupted our lives and ever since then it's been nothing but trouble ever since.
Bethany: D, you must understand that power, this great, is going to come with some greater responsibilities. It wouldn't have chosen you if it didn't believe that you were the one that could handle the responsibilities that came with being a ranger.
Derek: Well, these responsibilites have just landed the very one I loved the most in the hospital. I'd rather give this up then to have to watch another person leave my life.
Derek gets up from the table, takes the Beast Gem off from around his neck, places it on the table and quickly leaves the Center.
Bethany: Lionel go after him, he doesn't know what he's doing.
Lionel: Don't worry I'll see if I can talk some sense into him.
Lionel quickly gets up from the table as well and races after Derek. Bethany is left to sit in the booth holding Derek's Dragon Gem in her hands.
(Scene) Construction Site
Derek was half way down the street from the Center crossing in front of a massive construction site. Lionel had finally caught up with him and had managed to stop him.
Lionel: Come on Derek, don't quit the team. You can't quit, we need you we can't possibly defeat Demonus and his goons without you.
Derek: I can't possibly stand by and watch another life get taken.
Lionel: We knew these risks were going to come long before that incident happened. We knew that somehow they would find a way to get to the ones we loved.
Derek: I know, but I just didn't think it would hurt this much.
Lionel: I had to learn that same lesson when the Entertainment Center first got blown up. I felt that these Gems were nothing more than mere bad luck charms, but my eyes were opened to realize that when I took on these powers they weren't going to be easy getting use to. No, it's not easy especially when its close to the ones you love.
Derek: How do I get over this?
Lionel: That's the beauty of it, you don't have to go through it alone.
Zyon: Ah isn't that so touching?
The two teens turned to see Zyon and Byrox standing with a gang of Hell Hounds.
Zyon: Well human, are you ready for round two?
Derek: I'm ready for anything you can throw at me.
Derek got ready to morph, but forgot that he laid down his Gem on the table back at the Cosmic Cafe.
Byrox: Now it's time to put you out of your misery. Hell Hounds give our friends a good working out.
The Hounds charged at Derek and Lionel causing them to race into the construction site. They both got to a dirt cliff and front flipped down to the ground below. Some of the construction workers were about to inform them that they weren't suppose to be in the area, but when they saw who was following them, they began turning tails and running for their dear lives.
Derek: I left my Gem back at the Cafe.
Lionel: Don't worry I have an idea, you can handle the Hounds without your powers. I'll handle dumb and dumber in ranger.
Derek: Sounds like a plan to me. I'll split and head left, you can head right allowing me to lure the Hounds away from you.
Lionel: All right we'll break at this crossing path.
When they reached the path that crossed theirs Lionel broke to the right and headed down the second path while Derek continued down the same path with the Hounds following close behind him. Zyon and Byrox stood atop the site and watched as the Hell Hounds chased after Derek.
Byrox: Look at how he tries to run away from the battle.
Zyon: Maybe if we made it a little more interesting.
Blue Ranger: You'd be wise to keep your focus on the things around you instead of down below.
Byrox: If it isn't little boy blue.
Blue Ranger: Oh you're so going to pay for those words.
Zyon: Bring it on ranger!!
Blue Ranger: With pleasure.
Down below the Hounds had lost track of Derek, they were frantically searching for him. They all gathered in an open area of the construction site and started looking around, but they still couldn't find a trace of the teen. In a crane a few feet away Derek is seen climbing inside and switching it on, before the Hounds could move in time, Derek had managed to swing a girder on the end of the crane towards the Hounds and knocked them through the air out of the construction site. Derek climbed out and placed his hand over his eyes to see just ow far he had knocked them away.
Derek: They're going, they're going, they're going, and they're out of here!!
Just then Derek heard some struggle sounds and battle noises. He turned to the top of the site and saw that Blue Ranger wasn't fairing too well against Byrox and Zyon. Byrox had slashed him in his chest with his Saber to the ground.
Byrox: Hey Red Ranger, I heard you had a problem protecting someone you really loved. I guess you fail again, here's another person you can add to your list.
Byrox and Zyon stood next to each other and placeds their hands together. With a conservative amount of energy they both fired a dark blue fireball at Blue Ranger blasting him off the dirt cliff to the ground a few hundred feet below. He laid on the ground motionless before he demorphed back to Lionel. Derek quickly raced to his friends aid and saw that he was badly injured. He looked up to the top of the cliff to see that the two had already teleported away from the site.
Derek: Oh man, hold on Lionel, we're going to get you back to the Chamber.
Derek begins helping Lionel from the ground.
(Scene) Mystic Chamber
Lionel laid on the MedBed while Kyle looked over him. Bethany and Derek stood to the side and waited for any news that Kyle had about their friend's condition.
Derek: Well, how's he doing Kyle?
Kyle: He's going to be alright. He was just banged up and had a few cuts and bruises.
Derek: This is just great another person that means something in my life is badly hurt.
Bethany: Don't blame this on yourself Derek, there was nothing you could've of done.
Kyle: She's right, you were busy with the Hell Hounds. You couldn't help Lionel and stop the Hounds at the same time.
Derek: Either way it goes someone else got hurt and I can't stand for someone else to get hurt anymore.
Derek quickly turns and runs out of the Chamber. Bethany goes to run after him, but Kye catches her by her arm and stops her.
Bethany: What are you doing, we have to go after him and convince him that it's not his fault.
Kyle: Right now he needs time alone. Trust me he'll understand it soon, but right now he needs to find that out for himself.
Bethany: I sure hope you're right about that Kyle.
(Commercial Breaks)
(Act Two)
(Scene) The James House
Back the James House, Derek sat on the front room couch looking through some photos of his mother, father, and himself when he was just a little boy. He saw and remembered the wonderful times they all had before they both seperated. Now he was kicking himself for making a decision that has caused his mother to be badly harmed. He sat looking at the book of photos with tear filled eyes.
Derek: Mom, I'm so sorry that I got you involved in this whole mess. My stupidity may now have cost you your life.
He quickly closed the book and threw it against the wall knocking some of the other pictures down to the floor. Derek grabbed a pillow that was next to him and buried his face and began releasing sobs of tears.
Derek: I..I'm so sorry....momma.
(Scene) Mountain Area/ Dark Lair
Byrox and Zyon walked into the throne room where Demonus sat waiting for them.
Demonus: Well, how goes this plan of yours?
Zyon: It went marvelously, the Red Ranger is beginning to doubt whether or not he should even be a ranger.
Demonus: Again explain to me why you wanted him to feel this way?
Byrox: By causing the ranger to feel inadequate about his abilities and reasons for being a ranger, he will be of no good use for the others.
Zyon: If we were to strike now the rangers would fall down so quickly they wouldn't know what hit them.
Demonus: How do you propose to do this?
Zyon: My brother and I will draw them in with a fake monster attack. We know the Red Ranger won't arrive, which will leave the other three vulnerable to our attacks.
Byrox: When they are at their weakest we will then combine our attacks and destroy them.
Demonus: Your plan does sound interesting and well thought out, but what guarantee do I have that it won't be like the last few ideas you two have had?
Zyon: I assure you Demonus that those rangers are going to see their nightmares come to past. Nothing will be able to protect them, not their Beast Gems, that wannabe Sage, or their zords.
(Scene) Mercy and Life General Hospital
Derek goes back to the hospital to visit his mother. He sits in her room next to her bed and looks at her breathing through a respirator. Derek couldn't stand seeing his mother this way, even though they didn't talk to each much, this was the person that meant the most to him in his life. He now felt hopeless, even with his Dragon Gem, he felt that he couldn't do anything to help her now. He sat next to her with his hands grasping hers.
Derek: Momma, I'm sorry that you got caught up in all of this. I never meant for it to be this way. I thought that by me becoming a ranger it would help solve problems not creating worse ones.
Derek gets up and walks toward the window and looks out among the other buildings of the city. Some were still being repaired from previous battles. He knew in his heart that it was he and the others that helped caused the devestation.
Derek: I can't believe that just saving the world could cause so much destruction. We're just as guilty as Demonus for this mess happening. I can't risk hurting another human being, I think it'll be best that I step down from being the Red Dragon Ranger.
He turns back to face his mother and walks to the other side of her bed and leans over to kiss her forehead.
Derek: That way I can spend time with the ones that I love. I'm sure the others can manage without me.
(Scene) Mystic Chamber
Kyle continued adding compresses to Lionel's head as he sat up on the medical bed. He still felt woozy from his encounter with Byrox and Zyon at the construction site.
Lionel: Man, why do I feel like a mac truck slapped me every which way but right?
Kyle: You were lucky to get out of that battle alive at all.
Lionel: Where's Derek?
Bethany: He left again. I think he might give up being a Power Ranger.
Lionel: He can't do that, we can't win this battle without him.
Kyle: Lionel's right, the team must be whole if we're to stand any kind of chance against Demonus. Somehow we must convince Derek that he's not to blame for what happened to his mother.
Lionel: I think I now where to find him.
Just then the computer systems began blaring the alarm. The rangers raced to the monitors to see a large alligator monster attacking people in the center of town.
Kyle: I guess we're going to have to wait talking to Derek. There's more pressing concerns to deal with. You guys ready?
Lionel and Bethany: Ready!!
They all stand in morphing positions with Kyle being in the center, Lionel to his right, and Bethany to his left.
All Three: RELEASE THE POWER OF THE BEAST!!
Lionel: BLUE LION, RANGER POWER!!
Lionel morphs into the Blue Lion Ranger.
Bethany: YELLOW HAWK, RANGER POWER!!
Bethany morphs into the Yellow Hawk Ranger.
Kyle: WHITE WOLF, RANGER POWER!!
Kyle morphs into the White Wolf Ranger.
(Scene) Downtown Oak Hill
The gator monster marched through the streets to city spewing out streams of intense flames at anything or anyone he saw. He fired a stream of flames at a car and completely reduced it to scrap metal. He turned to a police vehicle and fired two fireballs at it causing it to explode.
Alligator Monster: I'm going to reduce this whole city to ashes in no time!!
White Ranger: We don't think so!!
Alligator Monster: Huh?
The monster turned around to look behind him and is slashed across the chest by White Ranger's Timber Axe. The attack sent the monster crashing to the ground. When he finally got up he saw that he was being confronted by the three rangers.
Alligator Monster: You're going to pay for that cheap shot.
Blue Ranger: Show us what you got, lizard breath.
Alligator Monster: Oh, don't worry, I will.
The monster opened its mouth and spewed a large stream of flames at the rangers, but they were able to leap out of the way of the attack. Blue and Yellow Ranger drew their Beast Blasters and fired upon the monster blasting multiple times into his body. The monster fell to the ground and instantly disappeared. The rangers became baffled by this sudden turn of events.
Yellow Ranger: Where did he go?
White Ranger: Be careful guys this feels like some kind of trap.
Out of nowhere a whistling sound could be heard heading straight for the rangers. Two explosions erupted all around them throwing them to the ground. They slowly stood to their feet wondering who caused the attack, but they didn't wonder long as Byrox and Zyon appeared on the scene.
Zyon: You were right about one thing, it is a trap.
Byrox: The gator creature was just a diversion to get you fools to come down here. Now that you are here, we shall destroy you.
White Ranger: Please, get over yourselves, you haven't beaten us yet and you never will.
Zyon: Oh you see that's where you're wrong. Today we show you a new side of ourselves that you will regret having to see.
Yellow Ranger: If it's your ugly side, too late we've all ready seen that.
Byrox: When we're done with you, we'll see if you'll keep that smart mouth of yours. Come brother let's show them the results of a combined effort.
Zyon: I'd love to.
The two joined hands and lifted their other hand into the air and began chanting aloud.
Both: POWERS OF DARKNESS AND OF THE NIGHT, GIVE US THE POWER THAT WE MAY UNITE!!
Their bodies began glowing and changing instantly. Byrox glowing a dark teal and Zyon a dark purple began merging their bodies into one being. Once their bodies were linked the merger caused a bright flash of light to appear which almost blinded the rangers.
Blue Ranger: What's going on, what do they think they're doing?
The light dissipated and now standing where two once stood was a larger and buffer form of the two. The being looked like Byrox and Zyon, but he was a few feet taller, his arms were more muscular and he wore a sleeveless trenchcoat; but he still had the trademark black shades.
???: Well rangers how do you like the new and improved us?
Yellow Ranger: What are you?
???: Well little lady you can call us Byronox.
(Scene) Mercy and Life General Hospital
Inside the hospital room Derek had his head down on the side of the bed and was taking a little nap. He was soon awakened by some stroking his hair, he saw that it was his mother.
Derek: Mom, you're awake, how do you feel?
Mrs. James: I'm alright, just a little soar that's all.
Derek: Mom, I'm sorry that this happened to you.
Mrs. James: Don't blame yourself, things happen that are beyond your control. Life has a way of throwing curve balls at us, but we must be strong enough to handle them when they come.
Derek: It's because of me that you were attacked in the first place.
Mrs. James: Why, because you decided to become a Power Ranger?
Derek: Huh?
Mrs. James: I heard you speaking earlier and you shouldn't blame yourself for helping to protect the lives of others.
Derek: It just seems like we're doing more harm than good.
Mrs. James: What's better, to have a few bumps and bruises or to be totally destroyed by this meance all together? If someone doesn't stand up to these intergalactic beings attacking us, then no one will. You're not the first ranger that's had to face this problem. I'm sure the others rangers around the world faced the same situation in the cities that they protect. You and team you're with are the ones chosen to protect us here in Oak Hill. You can do it Derek, there's nothing you can't do if you would just reach inside of yourself and tap the strength within.
Derek: Are you sure about that momma?
Mrs. James: I'm positive.
Derek: All right momma, I'll give it another try.
Mrs. James: That's my baby, don't let it get you down.
A loud blast was heard coming from outside. Derek raced to the window and looked out to see from a distance the rangers battling against what looked like a newer version of Byrox and Zyon. He could see that the being was mopping the floor with the other rangers. The others couldn't even lay a finger on him without being kicked, punched, or lasted to the ground.
Derek: Oh no the guys need me, but am I strong enough to do it?
