Casting Calls are stupid, if you have no confidence in your ability to create characters by yourself, your fanfic series is going to completly and totally suck.

I agree but it is very funny when a writer uses your own character for a fic that they created it is just to get more people to view their fic really. that's why i put some charaters

Wow. Narrow-minded. I guess that means everyone's fic here who uses a casting call sucks, right? Cuz from what I've read, that's definitly not the case. You haven't even read the first chapter of the fic, and you assume it sucks. That's horrible. I used a casting call for my fic, and it definitly doesn't suck, at least not from what I hear. I used a casting call to be interactive, and let people get involved in something. I have the ability to create characters for myself, which I've been doing for 3 years in my wrestling fics. Plus, it's a great way to incorporae other's ideas into your own fics. If you're gonna be that narrow minded about something like that, you should really just leave.

I take it you're one of those people who just say inane crap in those fanfics like "Wow, this iz greatz, LOLZ", and pass it off as as review?
You haven't even read the first chapter of the fic, and you assume it sucks. That's horrible.
Most of the fanfics here are horrible, clearly it's becoming obvious none of you have been reading Splush' concerned thread regarding the fandom's current lack of good fiction resolving around this series, some of you have even resorted to OFF-TOPIC FICTION because you're incapable of writing a good fiction resolving around the familiar characters from the series, retreating into the worlds of Buffy and Smallville

In this forum, every review is positive, especially to the crappy ones, I had to personally intervene and persaude Packfan6 to start aksing for constructive crtisicism before her fanfic fell into a pit of crap and save her from Impy's merciless MST3K wrath.
If you're gonna be that narrow minded about something like that, you should really just leave.
In a time where P.R Fanfics have been reduced to glorified Sentai? No way.

How does it not make for a good story? You should really back up your statements with reason. Casting calls do make for good stories because they allow you to be especially creative with your writing, especially with input from the authors.

You see for me, I don't use casting calls. I don't use them because I just make a list of names. I choose the five or six or however many rangers I want, names and give them brief backgrounds. Then as the fanfic goes on, I add to them.
So I really disagree when people say that they are stupid and that the fanfic will be stupid. It all depends on how the Author writes it. People use casting calls because they could be having a brain fart or something and need some help. Or maybe they don't fell confident. But in any case, people should do what ever they need to write their fanfic.

It also shows the author has no confidence in his/her own abilities
Why would we want to waste our time speculating on what is and is'nt good for a fanfic when we hav'nt seen it for ourselves? Why participate in something that we have yet to see a small glimpse of? Tell the author to give you a sample of the story through a P.M, with the characters replaced by "Ranger Number 5", or "Ranger Number 3" dictate if it's good or not through THAT before you decide to help him/her
And the credibility of input from the "authors" does beg for questioning....

First off, I've been writing for about 5 years, so I know good stuff when I see it.
Secondly, I must agree with your second point, that alot of fiction here sucks. If not for the plot, for the way it's written. The grammar in fics I've read has made me disgusted. And yes, people should NOT be posting here about Buffy or Smallville. I think they should go to a forum specifically for those programs. But I don't do that.
As for the whole constructive criticism thing, I don't think people should need to ask for that. And no, not every review is positive. I don't see how something along the lines of "this shit sucks" could be positive. It's a positive review if someone leaves advice for the writer to use to improve their characters or plot or something.

Thats right and if you guys don't like peoples FanFic's don't read them it's that simple.
MAKE THE CALLS STOP!
Seriously, if you don't have the creativity to make up your own characters, then you don't have the creativity to write a fanfic, and thus you have no buisness being in this forum.

Once again--I agree.
A major factor in a fanfic is to have a sense of creativity and originality to share with others. It's not your own story unless you make your own characters.
In fact, I'm going to ask Ray if we can pull the plug on allowing "casting calls".

I strongly disagree! Again, I will restate my above posts. People have trouble creating characters. It doesn't mean that they can't write! I've had a ton of trouble coming up with characters for my fanfic Magic Force, and asked for help. Yet look at how well it is going right now!
If people need help, then we'll give it to them.

That isn't fair. Some people want to write fanfics but cannot come up with their own characters.
Not allowing people to get help with creating characters is unfair and rude!
I'm stronglly against that.

Yes, some people might need a little boost here and there, so go and use Aza's resume guide thread.
But you people who can't create even one character, are NOT meant for writing fiction. I suggest you look for work elseware.

If people need help with their characters, they can ask a friend at home or over an instant messenger program. If you can't make your own characters, you have no business doing a fanfic and putting your name under the author.

That's prejudice.
I always have writers block and need some help. And when I get help I put a thank you in my fanfictions first post. I always do.
So wanting to close down casting call threads because people aren't giving credit to those who help them, is prejudice.
It's also prejudice to say that because people can't come up with characters then their ideas for fanfictions and their writing must suck also because they can't think of characters. That isn't fair as I"ll say yet again.

I used a casting call for my first and only fic because I had NEVER done a PR fic before, but I could have come up with characters on my own. Hell, I used to have a huge wrestling archive on FF.Net filled with my own characters. Does that mean I don't have creativity or that I can't write? If it bothers people so much, I'll have the damn fic deleted and I'll start it over with my own original characters.

It's a fact. If you can't make your own characters, you're not a fanfic writer. If you have writer's block, you stop writing. That's it. You stop writing until you get the inspiration back. You don't try to rush out the story unless it's your job and you have a deadline.
That's prejudice.

Your logic is flawed. It's not "prejudice". It's making some of you guys actually THINK.
Look at it this way. Would you give a Vet a human to treat? No. If you either don't have the talent, or are too lazy, then you have no buisness here.
Everyone has writers block. They ask for help. But writers block is NOT "hey, could you make up a team of characters and how they interact for me? Thanks". Writers block is when you have trouble trying to think of a new epsiode plot, or when a particular plot device leads noware.

As a "fact".
If you have a problem with casting calls, then stay away from them. Don't keep on going into the threads and starting trouble because YOU don't like them and don't find them necessary. It is rude.

No, it just means you're fucking lazy, and not staying true to the characters in the wrestling section to begin with
(Why the HELL is there even a wrestling catergory anyway? Wrestling is'nt about crappy Hardy Boyz romance fodder, or Randy Orton marrying some mary sue desperate for some sweet lovin', it's about people beating the fucking shit out of each other, the story is told not backstage, but in THE RING, any real wrestling fan knows this)

i'm just gonna put my two cents' worth in. i myself used to have casting calls for almost all my fics, before people actually starting telling me to make up my own characters. and know what? now i either make up my own, or use canon characters from a movie, series, etc. while i don't agree w/the arguing, i'm glad people actually talked me into creating my own characters. the two people who got me doing that are StormWarrior2 and CrystalRanger14. and i'm actually gonna thank them for it. thanks, u guys. and if u do need help, no offense, but u really should ask someone over AIM/ICQ/YahooIM/MSN/PM. that's my view on it.

as of now, i will no longer hold casting calls here on RB.
nor will i post polls asking the people of RB to choose Rangers/morphers/etc. for me.
it gets tiring, people. and i know a lot of you agree. heck, at first when Crystal and SW2 first starting telling me 2 do my own characters or quit, i admit i was angry. but it was good, sound advice. i just didn't realize it at the time.
EDIT: And another thing. If you can't understand English :shame: and you can't type in English :shame: , and if u don't have good grammar PLEASE DON'T POST FICS  !

The more I thought about what Dynomutt Megaship, CrystalRanger14 and anyone else who disagrees with casting calls said, about me just being plain fuckin lazy as to not come up with my own Rangers for my fics, or that casting calls were for people with no writing talent, the more I realized they was right. When I did my Wrestling fics back on FF.NET, I had at least 10-15 characters, and I just got really lazy with my writing. Hell, I'm the first to admit my writing has kinda droope
It kinda pissed me off to go against what I said earlier, but I did alot of thinking between about 5:30 and now, and realized that, yeah, casting calls really aren't all I thought they were cracked up to be. I mean, for my fic, two friends asked to be in it, so I put them in, but for the other 3, and villains, I should have come up with something on my own.
So, yeah, call my a hypocrite or whatever the fuck you wanna call me. I don't really care. I just know I was wrong before, and I'm admitting it. So, I'll be restarting my fic, new name, new everything. My own characters, all that shit.
Whatever....
