Chapter 1: Gathering of the Messengers, Part 1
---
Farewell, happy fields,
Where joy for ever dwells! Hail, horrors! hail,
Infernal world! and thou, profoundest Hades ,
Receive thy new possessor…
Yumo closed the book with a sigh, standing up and looking at the room around him. Tall and thin he was, with grayish eyes taking in the simple disheveled apartment around him. He ran his hands through the short brownish hair on his head, sighing.
He was very nervous. Looking about the room, he sighed, gazing about at everything, even at the greyish pants and reddish shirt he wore-.
It should be done by now... what's taking so long? he thought to himself, marching around the apartment- and towards the window view it gave him, of a city caught in a cold fall morning.
He looked out the window, down at the city below-
And cursed it.
" I hate you all.. " he whispered, sounding very calm and very sane, yet very angry and very insane.
" No... " he suddenly whispered, leaning on the sill.. " I don't hate you all. I only hate your world- I hate a world where cold logic prevails over emotion, where order wins the day over chaos.... "
His voice increased, like silent thunder, like the sharp gales of the wind. " I hate a world where your loved ones can die.. I hate a world where I am forced to part with the ones I love... " His monologue poured from him as he continued.
" I hate a world where the light is tainted, where even the holiest are demons.. I hate a world where cold-hearted logic rules over all, cursed world.. I hate a world like this one, a world where I lose everything, and I will change it.. I will destroy it! "
Raving, insane, his voice screaming and pouring everything outwards, he seized a piece of paper from nearby.. on which all of his pans lay scrawled. He threw it open and read it, all the while screaming his monologue to the skies, which almost seemed to be kinda darkening now...
" I will destroy and I will recreate! I will revive those I love and destroy those I hate! I will set into motion events that will bring together friends and loved ones, villians even; destroy heroes, destroy defenders of our steel world... I will summon energies, I will summon powers.. I have said farewell to my happy fields long ago, and now this land shall recieve its new possessor! "
He screamed it all out, screamed out the very feelings of his soul as he fell to his knees. Simple musing became chaotic insanity in an instant, as he shed tears for the loved ones he had lost... and burned with a fire to destroy those who had taken them away.
The sky almost seemed to grow ever darker, with his anguish at the loss of his love, with his rage against the world, with a fire that begged to destroy....
And then it was all gone, Yumo's fit of insanity somehow not noticed by anyone. He sighed....
" I know I'm insane, but... that's never happened before... I've never gone that crazy, ever spoke like that before... "
He sighed, running his hands through his hair again.
Is this really what I want to do? he said, thinking to himself for a brief moment.
Almost like a reflex, memories of his past flooded his mind, and he renembered things he had done, words he had said...
And he knew.
Clutching the paper with his plans, he nodded silent assent.
The Earth will mould to all my plans, and all I want.. shall be... he whispered.
I can drop this stupid false name, assume my true form... no longer am I going to have to call myself Yumo once this is all done.
Nodding silently to himself, whispering a promise, he turned away from the window.
" Now, to see on whether or not... it's complete. " he said, renembering that which had been worrying him. Quickly, he strode over to what resembled a pile of clothes that lay in front of his television set. But it was not what it seemed...
He laid his hand on the pile and it seemingly vanished- all of a sudden, a small pillar of white rose from the pile, on which five small boxes sat. One was red, one blue, one yellow, one green, and one pink.
" Magic.. " he chuckled to himself with a smile, breaking the cloud of seriousness that had surrounded him lately. " Quite a useful thing in hiding objects and changing the appearances of places... and people.. " he said, pointing to himself.
But that didn't matter now. Quickly, he opened the red box, and removed its contents- a golden band with a crest resembling somekind of star pattern on it.. or was it a creature? Yumo couldn't tell.... it didn't matter to him, anyway, that was for sure.
As he lifted it out, he noticed it was glowing brightly- very brightly. Another smile crossed his face as he set it out down gently and removed the other four- all of which were just like the first, all of which were growing brightly.
" Yes! " he cried. " It's complete... the process is complete... "
Suddenly, each of the bands projected an image of a human being. Yumo expected this- it was what he had waited for all this while.
" I've found my messengers... " he said. " Now, to bring them to me... "
He closed his eyes and began to concentrate... he never even saw the dark-armored figure hiding in the shadows who slipped out to the window and leapt out, vanishing in shadow-like energy before he hit the ground below...
***
" Look out the window. "
" Huh? What're you talking about? "
" That's not important right now.. just look out the window. "
" Alright, if you say so.. "
" See anything? "
" What do you mean? Of course I see something- the sun rising, the buildings, the- "
" That's what I wanted you to see. "
" Huh? "
" I just wanted you to see that.. I just wanted you to look upon the human race. "
" And why, exactly? "
" Because we're all doomed, ya know- and I just wanted you to see the sun rise on a cursed world. "
David rolled his black eyes, staring at the guy sitting next to him on the bus as it moved through the city. David was of average height and build, wearing a red jacket over a shirt, blue jeans over his legs. His hair was brownish and uncut.
Figures... I always get stuck with crazy people... David thought.
Everywhere I go, they're just following me...
He chuckled to himself, staring at the crazy guy before him- a guy wearing a green sweatshirt and greyish sweatpants, probably a bit younger than him. He had spiked black hair and black eyes that seemed.. very active. Right now, he was smiling at David as silence passed between them.
" Let me guess.. " the spiky-haired guy said, staring at David. " You probably think I'm a nutjob now, right? Whacked-out, a complete loon, just plain crazy, right? " He sounded nothing like the serious voice he'd adapted earlier.
" Well... yeah. " said David, chuckling.
" You might find this hard to believe, but I'm not. Name's Joel. What's yours? " he asked.
" David. "
" Ah, David.. nice to meet you, David. I apologize for that last bit, anyway- I was bored. "
" Bored? " asked David. " What's that got to do with it? "
" Well, you see, I'm kind of a dramatic person- I've done a lot of acting things, you know. Anyway, I was just bored, so- I thought I'd act a little crazy, talk to you a bit, you know, get myself.. not bored. "
" Ah... " said David, with a sigh.
I'm not so sure you're really sane... David jokingly thought to himself.
But atleast you're someone to talk to.. Everyone else on the bus was too busy doing whatever and he'd been too busy thinking to talk to anyone..
" So, David.. " asked Joel. " What're you doing on this bus, anyway? "
" Huh? "
" Where the heck are you going? "
" Oh, that. " David chuckled. " Yeah, well... graduated high school like last year, and I'm not really into the whole college thing, so.. came here because it was close, and I'm off right now to go looking for jobs... "
" Lucky you. " Joel said. " I'm looking for colleges... just one more year, and I'm off to whatever learning place would be crazy enough to accept me. "
David resisted the urge to correct Joel- he wasn't lucky, not really. And he certainly didn't mean in terms of not getting a better education.
I don't think I'd have been in such a hurry if I knew life would become so... boring. he thought, chuckling to himself....
Only to have his deep thoughts interrupted by a voice from the seat opposite them.
" I don't know.. I doubt there's any college crazy enough to accept you. "
Joel turned to the voice. Its owner was a girl with hair that was coloured blackish-brown; she wore a denim jacket and jeans with a white shirt underneath, though the shirt appeared splattered with pink paint.
" Which one of us are you talking about? " Joel asked. " Me or Dave- mind if I call you Dave, David? " throwing David into the conversation.
" Go ahead. "
" Thanks. Now, which one of us are you talking about? "
" You.. you sound really crazy, you know? " she said.
" You're one to talk. "
" Oh? "
" Yes.. you have pink paint splattered all over your shirt, and you're sitting next to and in front people who happen to be sleeping. That's just whacko to me. " Joel said, snickering.
The girl chuckled too, amused at what appeared to be random insanity.
" Yeah, well, I am a bit of a whacko. Name's Sara... I gather your friend over there's David, so who are you? "
" Joel's the name, and yes, this is David. "
" Hello. " said David.
" Hello. " she responded... and, with that, the conversation died.
" Yes... well then, Sara, what's with your friends? " Joel said, trying to revive it. He pointed to the sleeping girl next to her, whose only visible feature was a green cap, and to the guy behind her, who wore a blue shirt.
" I don't know.. probably the same thing that has you wearing sweatshirts in public. " she said, chuckling to herself.
" Hey, now.. " Joel said, seeming offended. " These things are very comfortable.. "
" Yeah, and pretty stupid looking. "
" They aren't.. not as stupid looking as your paint-splattered shirt. " Joel responded, swinging into an unofficial contest of friendly insults.
" Well, not as crazy as you, Mr. ' Human Race Is Doomed! ' ", Sara said, smiling. She was enjoying this.
" Hey, I'm not crazy. " Joel smirked. " Isn't that right, David? " he said, turning to his silent companion.
" Well.. uh.. " said David, feigning nervousness.
" Come on now.. " Sara joked. " Tell him the truth.. "
" I think you're just as crazy as I am. " David finished.
" It's impossible for another person to mimic that kind of craziness, Dave. " Sara said. " Er.. mind if I call you Dave? "
" Sure, why not? " he smirked. " You're just as crazy as he is. "
" That could be considered an insult, you know.. " Sara said.
" Yeah, well.. "
Almost instantly, the bus slid to a stop- and everybody seemed to be getting off, with new people getting on... well, almost everybody.
" Hey, the bus stopped.. " said David. " Any of you guys getting off here? "
Sara and Joel would've answered David, but they suddenly vanished in flashes of shadow. No one noticed in all the confusion of getting on and off- a moment later, the two sleeping people were gone as well.
" What the.. " David said, rubbing his eyes-
And he vanished too.
***
" Ow! "
David groaned, finding himself slamming into a grey carpeted floor.
One minute, I'm on a bus.. then, I just plain vanish and end up.. here.
David rose to his feet and looked around what appeared to be a messy apartment.
Where here is, at any rate.
" So, you're here too? "
Joel's voice sounded behind him, and he turned- Joel and Sara stood behind him. With them was the green capped girl, who wore jeans and a tan shirt. She had brown eyes and black hair, and stared at him. Next to her was the blue-shirted man, who resembled a slightly taller male version of the girl.
" Yeah, I guess. " said David.
" I'm guessing you don't know where here is, either? " said the blue-shirt guy, stepping forward.
" Nope... "
" Ah, great. Well, my name's Jacob, but call me Jake.. what's yours? "
" David. " David said, feeling something in him at meeting him- shock? surprise?
Why do I feel like I know him from somewhere? David thought, but dismissed it quickly.
Jacob pointed at the group.
" Over there's- "
David cut him off. " I've met Joel and Sara, but who's..? "
" Oh, she's my sister- she'd much rather anyone call her Mick, but she does have a name. " said Jacob, almost chuckling.
" And I really hope you won't tell them what it is.. " she said, walking over to Jacob.
" Oh relax... I won't. "
" Sure.. "
David left the two and walked over to Joel and Sara, who were talking.
Wow... they never met before, and already they're talking away.. said David, keeping his mind deliberately off this whole crazy thing.
" So.. anyone have an idea what's going on here? " asked David.
Joel turned to him. " Oh, hey Dave... no, actually, we don't. We all just got teleported here.. apart from the threat of messy apartment filth, I don't think we're in any real danger.. " he said, changing the subject.
But then someone interrupted them.
" Of course you're not.. " a voice sounded. " I'm certainly not going to go to all the trouble of summoning messengers just to hurt them, now am I? "
" Wha... ? " all five of them mumbled in confusion..
Yumo suddenly appeared in the center of the room- he appeared to be sitting down on a couch.
" Ah, hello.. " he said, waving at all of them. " I see you.. got my message. Nice to see you showed up... "
" Uh.. who are you? " asked Jacob, stepping forward.
" Ah, my Blue Ranger... it's nice to see you're as sharp and inquisitive as I expected you to be... but then, I already knew that.. "
" Well, then... who are you, what do you want with us, and why did you just call me Blue Ranger? "
" Well... my name is Yumo, and what I want with you is simple- the reason I teleported you all here is because you are destined to become the Starcrest Rangers. "
" Starcrest... what? " they all said.
" The Starcrest Power Rangers. Rangers whose powers once served good, but were twisted to serve the darkness. "
" Did you say.. Power Rangers? " broke in David. " As in... urban legends? "
" Oh, trust me, they exist.... You want proof? "
" Alright.. " David said skeptically.
" Here you go.. " Yumo flicked something at him from out of nowhere; it landed in his hand, and he saw it was a strange gold band that glowed a bright red...
" Put it on. " said Yumo simply.
Everyone stared at him, wondering what was about to happen with this strange thing...
Put it on... a voice whispered in David's head. It was a strange voice, none he'd ever heard- and none he'd ever want to hear, again...not unpleasant, but... it was reflexive.
Please do..... it'll help you.. it'll bring you to..
To silence the voice, David put it on, and the glowing subsided to nothing...
Hmm.. fits alright... nodded David. Yumo wordlessly flicked the bands to the other four; following David's cue for some reason, they put it on.
Jacob felt what none else felt- power flooding through him.
My god... it's.. it's what I've wanted.. it feels like it..
Yumo interrupted his and everyone else's thoughts.
" I assume you've banded yourselves, yes? Very well then- you have now become the Starcrest Rangers, though you've yet to use your powers... "
Finally.. I've got the messengers of my plan.. or, as history calls the Starcrest Rangers, the Bearers of Evil... Yumo thought to himself.

Uh.. thus ends the first part. Sorry about no fighting, but it was running up to 9 pages... :) Real sorry. Look for real-soon updateness. :)

Two things I vow to correct, sirs and madams, in future writings- overuse of emoticons and not making this stuff so darn long. Yii, I think we'll be having a 3-part opening.
Oh well. ^ _ ^
Chapter 2: Gathering of the Messengers, Part 2
---
Today, Kurotana chose to practice with the sword.
Kurotana was, as she had always been, a figure decked out mostly in fancy dragon-like armor- golden and black and white it was. It was light yet turned most weapons away, and hid most of her body. All but the human like face showing from the dragon-horned white helmet, revealing black hair and eyes.
Eyes which were concentrated on the sword she swung, standing in a field in the middle of nowhere. Every day, to sharpen her skills of combat, she would practice with one of the many weapons she wielded- today, 'twas the sword she swung, up and down, fighting an invisible opponent.
Houma watched her, standing several feet away.
Like his observee, it wasn't clear if he was human or something else. The tanned skin he sported on his athletic body looked a little odd, but probably human. But the slitted black eyes and chaotic black hair he sported- there was something odd about that.
Sighing, he fiddled with the whitish robes he wore, laying down the bluish engraved staff-with-jewel-on-top he carried. Unlike Kurotana, he was skilled in magic- but it didn't make him any less impatient. Still, he was able to keep silent.
Not Kurotana, however. Shadow-fencing for a few more minutes, she finally dropped the sword and turned to him.
" Stop standing around and do something already! You're disturbing me! " said the armored lady in an irritated voice.
" I am only standing here, you fool. I'm not disturbing your sword-games over there. " Houma replied, somewhat annoyed.
" You're fidgeting too much. I can hear it. It's distracting me. So stop it, you lazy fool. " Kurotana said, trading anger for sarcastic calmness.
" Lazy... I am not lazy! I am only awaiting the master's return! And he did say only to stay behind here, and not to draw attention to ourselves- which you seem to be doing fairly well with all your yelling! " Houma snapped back at here.
There was silence, and then Kurotana chuckled, walking a bit around the grassy field in nowhere before turning to Houma again.
" You really are an idiot- when you can't even come up with a good retort, you change the subject to something all the more foolish. " she said.
Houma glared at her, offended obviously.
" It is not foolish to follow the master's orders.. he ordered us not to draw attention to ourselves, and I think your shadow fighting would draw a lot of attention to us... with your ineffectual noises and dances with that steel toy, I'm surprised we haven't gotten an army down on us from all that noise. "
Kurotana only laughed.
" You may have the power to use magic, but... you're an idiot. What is better- to idly wait for your master and waste time or to use that time to better your skills and thusly be able to further serve him in the arts of combat... which, I might add, you know little of. "
That said, she lunged towards him with the sword.
Gah! Houma cursed inwardly. Must she always do this.. the fool will bring the whole world to us with her noise!
But she moved silently, the lunge a soundless dive for the throat-
And he thrust the staff, straight out and tall, blocking the attack. Kurotana lunged back, shifting the blade to her right and from her left, waiting for an opportunity to attack-
Quick as lightning, Houma snapped up the staff and blasted her in the chest with a powerful burst of lightning.
She staggered under the surprise blow, the armor absorbing the power of the attack- but Houma fired another burst. And another. And another. Not strong enough to kill, but enough to sting and send her off her feet.
Kurotana flew back and hit the grass. She did not move, the sword landing just a few feet away from her.
With a smirk, Houma walked up to her, unable to resist gloating.
" For once I've beaten some sense to you.. maybe now you'll start being a little more.. loyal to all your superiors and the master. "
He turned away, to wait for the master's arrival-
And Kurotana's foot snapped up, slamming into Houma's back.
" What the..? "
She was on her feet, spinning him around in an instant, delivering slashes with the blade. It was Houma's turn to crash onto the grass, his skin barely cut somehow.
But the pain was real.
" Agh.. you unloyal.. " Houma railed as a fresh wave of brief pain shot through him, leaving him weak and just moaning.
" ... Actually, I'm very loyal.. I'm taking the trouble to whip a fool like yourself into a better soldier, aren't I? You'll serve your precious master better.. "
" But not all of my allies are meant to serve as my soldiers, Commander Kurotana.. " a whispering voice echoed through the wind. Both of them turned to face it-
" Yes, sir.. " Kurotana said to the speaker, standing ramrod straight.
She couldn't conceal a slight bit of disgust, though...
Guh... that abomination... a soul that lives in other bodies... what brought me to serve such a man... being? she wondered, remembering those events that brought her to such a job of sorts....
" Master Kelkaiser.. " Houma said, rising to his feet. " You are back.. "
" Yes, Houma... I am. " He said, a silent and whispering voice escaping from a body it did not suit- a suit of average-build purplish armor, a steel face of sorts etched in the helmet's face.
" Sir, did you find what you were looking for? " Houma asked.
" Yes... it would seem my.. friend's after the same thing I am.. if I have it correctly, he's even gathered his own Rangers to help him.... Kurotana! "
Kelkaiser, right now, was not one for talk.
" Yes, master? "
" Summon your forces and prepare for battle. I would like you to capture these Rangers; you will know them when you see them.. Then, bring them back to this field.. you'll recieve further orders there! "
" Yes, sir! " she nodded, raising her sword into the air and releasing a bolt of gold lightning that exploded in a flash-
It subsided, but something was different- twenty beings dressed in black had appeared. Their faces were blank save for what some would have called red lips, and they skittered about with a catlike grace, waiting for orders.
Kelkaiser wasted no time, raising his hand- Kurotana recognized what was happening, and stood stiffly. A burst of shadow darted from it, growing and encompassing Kurotana's legion and her, taking them away to where the master had sent them.
Houma stared, watching the shadows vanish.
" Houma! " his master cried.
" Master? " the servant called, turning to the armored one, waiting intently for the expected command.
" Prepare our... headquarters, and wait there until further notice. "
Houma understood the obscure order. " Of course, master. " The magician raised his staff and chanted a few words, sending volleys of green energy out. They flew into the sky, bursting into clouds of shadow... Houma raised his staff, and in a shadowy streak, he seemed to dart upwards into the clouds and vanish...
Kelkaiser merely stood there, waiting.. and thinking.
So... it's begun. But I shall find the Procession first... only one of us can have it, old... friend.
***
" Starcrest Rangers? Did he say... Rangers? Like Power Rangers? Hey, what the heck are you talking about... um, hello? Hello? " Mick asked, tugging at her tan yellow shirt.
" Uh, Mick, I don't think he's listening to you. " Jacob said, sighing as he looked at the strange man before them- after telling them about this whole
" Starcrest Ranger " business, he had suddenly closed his eyes and not said a thing at all.
Great.. a total nutcase, this guy is. Jacob thought, chuckling... He examined the strange band he'd put on his right wrist- it was a golden band, with the design of.. a horse thing? A dragon? He couldn't tell...
Whatever it is, though.. it's reeally powerful... he mumbled to himself. The power he'd felt, flowing through him- it was power. It felt like he could do anything, like he could control anything... almost like something he'd always wanted.
Oddly enough... I think I actually want this. he mumbled to himself- but others felt the opposite.
" Gah! " Sara cried, pulling at the band on her arm, with a bird design of some kind on it. " Why.. won't.. this come off.. "
" Here, let me.. " Joel tried. " Maybe I can help, and... " He grabbed at her right wrist, his own band showing, a lion-like design present on it. Both of them pulled..
And both of them recieved a kind of jolt- one that stung.
" Ow! " they both cried, tugging at the device again- and it stung, again.
" That hurts! " groaned Joel. He turned to David, who'd been listening without saying a word.
" Got any ideas? " he asked.
" Well, no... actually, I don't care. I'm fine with this thing. "
Sara and Joel couldn't believe their ears.
" Fine with... but, we just got yanked to god knows where by some nutjob.. "
" We got told we're gonna become Power Rangers, which is really just a big urban legend from California- "
" And now, we have crazy gold things on our arm and we have no idea what they do... there's a lot to be worried about, so I don't see how you're fine! "
David chuckled.
" You guys are just like a couple of TV characters... I'm just fine with this because I don't care how this whole thing works out, in the end. "
As confusion reigned, Yumo was thinking inwardly.
So, I have my Starcrest Rangers... now to have them seek out my plans... he said, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket.
Here are my plans.. I hope that they can follow them.... It was an improved version of his.. earlier plans. He cleared his throat- he'd been thinking on what to say.
" My Rangers.. " he began. They were his, technically, so he figured he had better call them that... Suddenly, something flashed through his mind, a dark voice...
Come, Yumo.. It whispered only to him. Come and prepare for your destruction..
In an instant, all his plans were gone. The voice had come... and, if his infinite magical senses were correct, so had an enemy who was a speck compared to this voice...
Gah! Now.. now? Now I have to deal with him? And I have to deal with Kurotana as well?
He sighed, and saw everyone staring at him. Clearing his throat, he started over again.
" Rangers, I must leave now. " he said as if he had known them, and they trusted him.
But they didn't, and he knew it.
" I shall not return.... " he said, and he knew it true. He threw a piece of paper to David, wadding it up.
" I expect you to follow those directions... and I have one more thing for you. "
Before any of them could make sense of what was going on, he waved his hands- and they were gone.
In a few seconds, Yumo was too.
***
Streaks of red, blue, pink, yellow, and green shot out of wherever that was and landed in a deserted alley nearby- the five materialized, confused about everything.
" Okay.. " said Mick, the first to regain her wits. " See you all later.. "
She turned and walked away, down the alley, out of it toward the light.
Jacob sighed, looking around the five.
" Well, guess this is goodbye, as they say.. "
He too followed her, but they were stopped by David's voice.
" Where are you two going? "
Jacob turned. " We're leaving- we don't have any reason to actually stay, you know.. "
" You do know we've been chosen, right? " David cried.
" What, to be Rangers? There are no Rangers! " Jacob said.
" Then how do you explain how we got dragged out of the bus, huh? " David cried, driven to heights of passion he'd never been before.
" Freaky stuff, alright.. look, I'm not gonna do this, alright? " Jacob said, turning and walking away.
You don't want to lose him. a voice whispered inside David. He'll be..
Again, David cut off that voice, but he was driven by it to chase after Jacob.
" Hey, get back here... look.. "
Joel and Sara could only look on.
" Man, too bad they're leaving.. "
" Yeah.. but, I guess if they never try to take it off, they'll be- hey, wait, you're staying? "
" Sure.. "
" But, you were talking about- "
" Well, I just- "
" Heard a voice inside you that drove you to do it? "
" Sure, I guess.. "
" Yup, heard it too, Joel.. I'm staying too.. "
" Nice to know... but what'll you tell your family or friends or.. whatever, if you'll pardon me? "
" You're pardoned... well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to.... wait, is Jacob alright? "
" What're you.. oh.. oh my, I don't think he is.. "
Jacob was doubled over in pain, groaning, as was Mick. Their morphers were emitting sparks of some kind..
" Jaco-er, Jake? " he said, renembering the nickname everyone had forgotten. " Jake, you all right? "
" Does it look like it? " he said, managing clear speech through the pain. " Ow.. it hurts... "
" Yeah.. gah.. "
David sighed.
This isn't good.. he thought, understating his feelings.
Jake and Mick had stopped talking, in the mean while, the pain finally driving them to scream quickly...
Jacob heard a voice in his head..
You, refuse the power... I thought you wanted it? It was Yumo's.
What the..?! What are you doing-? Jacob screamed, caught off guard by the voice.
Only here to tell you.... I told you that I would have my messengers one way or another, whether willing or beaten down by pain..
You.. sicko.. you never said that...
I must've thought it, then. But I am not sick- I have my purpose. Trust me; you will come to appreciate me for this someday. Yumo's voice whispered, vanishing.
Jacob moaned- he didn't want the pain, but he didn't want to serve a complete whacko..... He had a choice between ever-burning pain and serving some sicko.
He made the choice, and stood up pain-free. In a second, Mick did too- obviously, she'd heard Yumo as well, and made the choice.
With a sigh, he turned to David.
" Fine, then.. I guess I'll stay on.. "
David smiled, happy. " Nice to know. "
Jacob wondered why David was so happy about joining this team, so ready to do so-
And then Kurotana's voice interrupted him.
" Well, you must be the Rangers.... " They all turned.. turned and saw her leap from a nearby building, their eyes widening as she landed on her feet with little effort.
" I've been told to capture you, so just come along quietly.. " she laughed.
Suddenly, she pointed, and the twenty cat-like faceless beings leapt from the rooftops and landed beside her.
" Or I'll have to hurt you.. "
It was Joel who summed up the group's feelings.
" We've been kidnapped by one psycho.. we're not going with another. "
Kurotana laughed. " Good.. then we can fight. Kenokaze, attack! " She cried, pointing- and the creatures rushed forward.
What happened next... was sheer instinct, and none of them would ever now would drove them to do it.
All five of them stepped forward, flashing the golden bands on their arms, calling out a phrase that struck them and stuck with them at the same time:
" Starcrest Light, Shine! "
The bands began to glow...
David suddenly found himself floating in a realm of pure red that bombarded him with red lights over all but his head. The lights did not hurt him, but solidified- into dark red armor with a white vest, on which a badge with a crest-like symbol sat.
From the realm's sky, some kind of dragon of energy descended, mouth open, swallowing his head... and forming a helmet, a dark red one with visor and some kind of dragon representation on it.
" Red Starcrest Ranger! " he cried involuintarily.

Oy, I think I'm making a record for longest opening episodes here... :) If this goes to five parts..... well, look at it this way- it'd be as long as the five-part opener for Transformers season 3, and that's always.. okay, guess the analogy broke down.
Here's hoping I can put this in four parts. :) And here's hoping the clunky fic doesn't kill you with its clunkyness.
Chapter 3: Gathering of the Messengers, Part 3
---
Joel's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at David- now the Red Starcrest Ranger.
Whoa... Power Rangers are real- he thought to himself. However, his thoughts were cut off by a force that overrode all his thoughts, that sent words into his mind which he complied with.
Like David had, he thrust out his glowing armband and touched it.
In an instant, he found himself floating in a realm of pure green energy. Green lights bombarded all of his body but his head, forming an obviously green version of David's suit. The realm's sky opened, and a celestial lion descended, forming into a helmet with lion designs for him.
" Green Starcrest Ranger! " he cried, standing next to David.
Wow... he thought. I'm an actual Power Ranger.... I believed him, but I'm an actual Ranger... an actual Ranger.
Kurotana watched it all with interest, holding back her score of warriors.
" Wait until they finish.. then we strike. They probably can't use those powers at all.. " She whispered the order, and the Kenokazes obeyed, waiting for the morph.
It was Sara's turn now. The same force automatically drove her into the motions-
A realm of pink energy surrounded Sara, and pink light came from nowhere, again forming armor on her body. It was same as the other two's, but it was a pale pink. Suddenly, a phoenix of energy descended, forming a helmet with a phoenix-like design on it.
" Pink Starcrest Ranger! " she cried.
Pink..? Not exactly the color I would've preferred, but it's.. interesting.
Sara thought.
Mick was drawn into the motions now, summoning herself into a plane of yellow energy with the gestures. Yellow energy spheres bombarded her and formed a yellow suit just like the others- a griffin of sorts descended, forming a helmet with the griffin designs for her.
" Yellow Starcrest Ranger! " Mick cried.
" Here goes- " Jacob mumbled, moments before he was swept up into the motions and the morph.
A realm of blue appeared- sending blue spheres down to form a suit for him. A celestial unicorn-thing descended, forming a helmet for him which he now wore.
" Blue Starcrest Ranger! " he cried.
All five of them appeared in the alley; belts with a crest that was starlike had appeared on their waists, along with hilt-like things.
" Starcrest Rangers! " They cried as one, standing together in the alley.
" How nice... " Kurotana sneered. " Now that you're done... Kenokaze, attack! "
The twenty Kenokaze charged forward towards the five Rangers.. and the fight was ignited. Four Kenokaze teamed up against each Ranger, some swinging with hands, the others with swords they'd produced from out of nowhere.
David's first fight as a Ranger pitted him against an unarmed Kenokaze. The creature swiped wildly at him in a frenzy, slashing at his armor. Sparks exploded off the armor as he reeled in pain. Hopping back, David watched the creature drop its arms before coming at him again-
And something welled up in him, some kind of impulse, and he punched the Kenokaze straight in the face. Somehow, it was swept right off its feet, crashing to the ground.
Woah.. Never been able to do that before... David said, moments before the other three Kenokaze closed in, two of them swinging swords...
Jacob was hurled against an alley wall, crashing to the ground. Four Kenokaze swarmed towards him, Kurotana waving her sword in the background.
" Finish him! " she cried to the warriors, as they closed in.
Jacob, oddly enough, didn't seem to be fighting back. He let the creatures come closer, closer...
It'll all be over soon... Jacob thought inwardly. It'll all be over, and I won't have to worry about crazy nutjobs or Power Rangers or psychos...
Another voice broke through his mind, as if on cue.
Jake... came Yumo's voice, using his nickname. Even after you agreed to bear.. my gift, you still refuse to serve me.... But I did not expect you to be suicidal..
" I'm not suicidial.. " he mumbled through the pain, as the Kenokazes hovered over him, striking him again and again and again with their fists. A storm of sparks erupted, but it didn't harm their nonexistent eyes.
But you are... you're letting yourself die here... you're not even using the fighting skills these powers give you... for shame, for shame. Yumo's voice said in his head.
" They only want to capture us, not destroy us... " Jacob mumbled.
They would use you for evil, for you are the chosen bearers of the Starcrest Ranger powers.. you are my Rangers, not theirs, and you will serve my designs, not theirs. You shall be my evil Rangers, not theirs! Yumo's voice cried within him, sounding desperate.
" E..evil Rangers..? " he mumbled, the pain from attack after attack driving him to near-unconciousness.
Yes, evil Rangers... I won't pretend. You will serve me, and you will destroy this world-
" I.. will.. not.. " Jacob moaned.
You will.. your fellow Rangers already have chosen to serve me... the voice cried.
" WHAT? " Jacob screamed, as the pain shot through him.
It's true... the phantom voice laughed in his brain, changing from crazy whackjob-type-voice to a somewhat... darker one, yet still very human.
In a sense, it is true.. the darkness in their morphing powers is influencing them to serve me.. I don't know why, but you're the only one who's resisting me... Even your sister gave into me after a bit...
Jacob staggered to his feet, suddenly trying to run. The Kenokazes surrounding him merely pushed, and he crashed back against the wall.
" Maybe.. because.. I'll.. never.. serve.. you.. " he moaned silently.
" I'll.. never serve.. a psycho. "
You will be doing evil things.. but I will not betray you, I promise.. you will have your heart's desire if you serve me... Yumo whispered.
" My heart's desire, eh.. " whispered Jacob. " Okay.. I'll.. serve you.. "
Good... Yumo whispered. Now, take care, my loyal Ranger..
The strange mentor's voice vanished, leaving Jacob. A will flooded him, and he got to his feet, kicking out at the Kenokazes, sending them back.
" And I'll get the others back from under your power, especially my sister... and I'll destroy you.. " he mumbled to himself.
***
Kurotana watched the fights below; she'd leapt back to the rooftops using a bunch of windowsills when she'd found that the Kenokazes were holding the Rangers off without her help.
" Those Kenokaze are weak.. they can't even beat a team of pathetic Rangers! I'll have to show them my power... "
She leapt back down, choosing the Blue Starcrest Ranger- or StarcrestBlue- as her first target.
" So, weakling, you finally fight back... prepare to be destroyed! " He hurled a half-hearted punch at her- which she masterfully turned aside with the sword she wielded. Delivering a few quick slashes, she sent him crashing back to the ground.
In concern, Mick rushed at Kurotana- only to be slashed at and knocked off her feet. The two of them were on their feet, both of them charging Kurotana, driven by a force- and were knocked back again. The other Kenokazes broke off their attacks to gang up on the two- leaving Joel, David, and Sara alone.
" Wow, seems like we've been left alone.. " said Joel.
" Guess they didn't like our company.. " cracked Sara.
" Enough talk.. " snapped David, and he sounded odd.. " We have to.. "
Suddenly, something seemed to overtake David, and he knew what to do.
" .. Summon the Starcrest weapons. " he finished.

Chapter 4a:Gathering of the Messengers, Part 4a
---
" Why won't they listen? " David mumbled under his breath, watching everyone else...
But not really watching, as he blocked a kick from the Kenokaze. They'd split off to take on Joel, Sara, and himself... again, interrupting their conversation. Sixteen of them were now closing in on him..
" .. And they're doing a wonderful job of beating us up. " he cursed, watching his ' friends '. Joel and Sara were both being restrained by the other four Kenokaze, and Jake and Mick.. Kurotana was beating them down at her leisure.
A Kenokaze took the oppurtunity to launch a kick at him. David leapt back and blocked it, before leaping into the air and delivering a kick that sent the creature scattering back to the ground. He smiled at the feeling that flooded through him- a dark and powerful feeling, a feeling he liked.
I can see you're doing quite well, now... Yumo's voice wove through his head, a whispering tapestry of words.
David had no response, watching the other Rangers being beaten back... a kind of dark force, along with something else, seemed to surge through him as the voice whispered into his mind.
" Yes... mas..ter.. " he mumbled in response, the words sounding forced and yet very welcome, as if he wished to say and whisper them forever and ever...
The mental voice chuckled, as David fought on. Vanishing, Yumo's ethereal whisper came through his mind again just as he blocked a Kenokaze's attack and sent it reeling away.
Come now, you really don't have to say that..... my friend. You've agreed to serve me, so you're more of an ally than anything.. he whispered, in a tone far too happy, given what its speaker was now going through...
" Yes! " David quipped, a little too enthusiastic. " Yes.. " he cried again, executing a masterful spin-kick that caught an attacking Kenokaze in its side and sent it to the ground. Ever like a cat, however, it sprung up and got closer to him...
You've embraced the powers.. Yumo whispered. Very good.. very good. There is only good for you up ahead... you will be serving evil, true, but you'll find quite a few things ahead... their strange ' mentor ' said, sounding ever light and unreal as he was now.
David mentally nodded, sending the same Kenokaze back down to the ground. It got up again, however, and came swiping at him- the others formed up around him, darting in closer, sweeping their claws down.
StarcrestRed snapped back into a fighting stance, waiting for them to close in on him- when the voice broke into his mind again.
Lose this fight... it is not your time to summon the Starcrest weapons.. now, you will summon your less powerful weapons... Yumo's voice flickered in David's mind, fading out in an instant...
... And suddenly he knew what to do. Yet another dark will overtook him, and he found himself wanting to submit to it and do what it commanded....
Which he did, as he'd always done.
" Blast Dagger! " he cried, reaching for his hilt- a small and simple dagger materialized, crackling with red energy. Whipping it out, he pointed at the advancing Kenokaze group.
" Fire! " David screamed, releasing bolts of red energy that smashed into the oncoming Kenokaze... they staggered back.
Joel and Sara watched this all as it took place- with sparks of pain, the cat-creatures staggered back...
For only a few brief seconds. Then, they swarmed around him, hissing at their enemy.
" I think he's done for.. " mumbled Joel, feeling a bit sad at what seemed like a foregone demise.
But he was proven wrong.... at least temporarily.
" Blast Dagger, Saber mode! " he cried from out of nowhere, watching his dagger lengthen with crackling energy into a powerful saber. Charging into the swarm of Kenokaze, he swung at them like mad, striking a good number at them...
Until one of them seemed to land a lucky blow. David, the Red Starcrest Ranger and willing messenger of darkness, crumpled to the ground unmoving. With red energy, he demorphed and was left unconcious on the ground..
Yet one could almost see a smile etched into his unmoving features.

Chapter 4b: Gathering of the Messengers, Part 4b
---
" You're not even worth my time! " Kurotana laughed, smashing her sword down against Jacob's chest and sweeping him to the ground. He flew back a bit, landing on his back with a groan. Cackling, the dragon-armored soldier moved in for the kill...
And Mick intercepted her, a kick slamming into the armor. Staggering back a bit under the force of the blow, Kurotana swung the blade at StarcrestYellow. Crashing against her vest, the blow intercepted her in mid-kick, spinning her around.. the master swordswoman laughed.
Jacob- or Jake, which he wanted to be called but was not- turned his head, to watch his allies.. and saw David summon a weapon, saw him fall unconcious...
And strange fires of rage and.. something ignited in him, awoke something in the unwilling Ranger's soul, something that had lain dormant even with his pledge to their dark mentor.
I have to get up.. otherwise, who's gonna save Mick or the others from that madman..
He rose to his feet suddenly, feeling the darkness flood into him again, but it was like a leaky dam trickling into an empty lake... and, at this moment, Yumo's voice chose to haunt him again.
So... it takes seeing a friend of yours fall to finally make you take on the darkness's powers... but you still haven't accepted them fully. None of you have.. save David.. the voice laughed.
" .. Didn't do him any good. " he muttered, shakily standing on his feet. Expecting a response, Jacob didn't get one- and he didn't notice. He only saw Kurotana strike Mick down, and saw her get up.... and he knew what to do, he had seen David do it...
" BLAST DAGGER! " he cried, in a loud voice that shook the heavens.
Mick was caught up and rolled along into the wave of his invisible cue, as she too echoed him; their respective bladed weapons appeared in their hands moments later.
Here goes.. Jacob mumbled.
Grasping the dagger, he found it crackling with red energy. He snapped it forward suddenly, slamming a bolt into a Kenokaze that had slipped off to pick off his seemingly vulnerable self.
It hit the ground, then arose as graceful as a cat, slipping away fairly quickly.
Soon, it was gone, lost in the crowd that surrounded the other three Rangers-but Jacob didn't care.
Kurotana, however, noticed. She noticed the blast, and she noticed when Mick gave her a volley of stinging red bolts. These ones actually caused her to stagger back, frozen in shock.
Jacob took the chance. Thinking only to stop the dragon-armored lady, he made his cry.
" Blast Dagger, Saber Mode! " Once more his sister echoed his cry, and once more they charged unto the breach, hoping now to utterly best the enemy-
Kurotana had them down in seconds.

Chapter 5: Gathering of the Messengers, Part 5
---
I felt myself smash against the ground, and all I could do was watch..
Drifting in a haze of conciousness, Mick saw the recent events of her life play out like a film. It was a series of confusing images that drowned out everything- her surroundings, her thoughts, her mental narration... even the voices of the people around her.
It did not, however, prevent her from narrating her thoughts out loud.
" I turned... I saw my brother, Jacob.. Jake.... I saw him hit the ground, demorphing... I looked at myself, and I realized I too had demorphed.. " she mumbled deliriously, ignoring the voices dancing around her, igonoring even the fact that she'd somehow used a word she'd never heard.
" I turned, and I saw those two... the Pink and the Blue.. Joel and Sara... I saw them suddenly, somehow, break free, call out their sabers.. and I saw them get knocked to the ground by the armored lady, the psycho... They too demorphed, and I renember us getting carried away.. teleporting away, I renember that... and then.. "
Mick paused, thinking for a brief moment that the dancing of sound and voices had stopped, wondering if it had....
It had. But she did not care. In an instant, she continued her rambling narrative...
" And then.. I renember a field... a field, with the psycho lady and some guy in armor.. I renember seeing myself, and the other Rangers... I remember seeing us all being unconciously hoisted up by those... Kenokaze.. Yes, the Kenokaze... I remember teleportation, I remember... "
And then her thoughts began to cascade away, backsliding into the past and flowing down a river of memories.
All the narration faded away into the void.. it became only her thoughts now, and for the first time she was aware of the many other voices that filled the air.
The past.. Mick mumbled, still extremely delirious. The past, when I was just another person, ignored, always wanting.. always wanting to be someone, something.. someone with a life, not without-
It was more of the same that went through her mind, instantly becoming words, words that she began to speak like a nutcase. Fast they came, spilling out of her mouth in a torrent-
It was enough for David to lean over and slap her hard in the forehead.
***
David growled in annoyance.
It was hard enough having to be trapped in here... here, he thought, here being a dark featureless room that only housed five unmorphed Starcrest Rangers...
Especially a room that prevents me from morphing... he thought, having tried it already. He was oblivious to all, concentrating on his own thoughts; except for the brief period in which he'd slapped a rambling Mick upside the head, of course.
" Temper, temper.. " Yumo's voice whispered from nowhere, coming to him as it always seemed to do.
" All of this doesn't matter... you will get out soon, that I promise,, you'll get all you want, as long as you follow everything that happens to you.. "
" Yes.. forgive me... " David whispered. The voice didn't seem to respond, vanishing.... and allowing David to hear, for the first time, the voices of the other three Starcrest Rangers.
" What the heck was that for? " Mick asked, rubbing the back of her head. Blinking a few times, she seemed to be fighting the urge to rub at her eyes as well.
" ... You were being hopeless... and pathetic. " the Red Starcrest Ranger replied, malice biting into his every tone.
" Pathetic..? Now, what're you talking about...? Can't we all just get along? "
Joel interceded, trying to bring peace into the conversation. He'd probably stopped a nasty biting retort, given the looks a silent Jacob seemed to be shooting at him...
The Blue Ranger's attempt at humor failed.
" No, no we can't.. she was being pathetic and annoying with her whining.. gods, such angst.. I'm glad your family doesn't know you exist anymore. " David growled, his voice suffused with knowledge he had recieved some time ago, knowledge he had recieved with giving into the darkness of the Red Starcrest powers.
The other four seemed to blink, as if not fully absorbing the information.. then it hit them.
" What do you mean?! " Mick and Jacob asked at once, emotion flooding into their voices.
" .. You didn't know? " David asked, his voice suddenly becoming deeper and darker.
" The Starcrest powers were bound with a dark spell; a spell that made all who knew you before them forget that you ever existed. Your families, your friends, your... loved ones.. all of them have been forgotten, that you may serve the darkness better! "
He smiled, and it was the smile of one who had accepted it all; everyone else, needless to say, was not smiling.

Fufufufufu...
---
Silence hung in the air at David's revelation. It was scattered and broken in an instant.
" What are you talking about?! " Jacob growled, emerging into the thick of the coversation. The Green Ranger's voice, his body, his soul- all of it echoed with anger and confusion.
David merely smiled at him, a smirk crossing his face. The powers were influencing him at every step, changing him- and he rather liked it.
" I mean what I say.. you're no longer bound to anyone you knew.. you're free of everybody you ever knew, free to begin again. Be happy. "
" Happy? " Joel interjected, trying to stop anything from starting- Jacob did look a little mad right now, to say the least.
" Yes, happy. " said David. " Isn't it obvious- you have a fresh start ahead of you? "
Does he actually believe the crud he's saying?! Joel thought.
" Happy.. " Joel growled suddenly, almost as if he was going to launch into a tirade.
And he did, his voice filled with a rage that equaled Jacob's.
" How can I be happy, huh?! My life was perfect, you idiot- as perfect as it could be! I'm- or I was, thanks to you- an actor! And, you utter fool, everything was perfect for me- I might well have been on my way to becoming a great actor, which is something I loved, if I'd been allowed to just continue my life! But no.. thanks to that nutcase, I get drafted into becoming a.. Power Ranger, yanked all the way here... and now you've just told me that I've lost a chance at my dream! How can I be happy, huh?! "
The spiky-haired boy had changed, the humor that had seemed forever impressed into his face now vanished. The other three Rangers- even Jacob, though he seemed to be relaxing a bit- could only step back and watch it all play out.
David chuckled.
" And you only remembered this now? Something tells me acting really wasn't your great dream after all.. "
Something seemed to click in Joel's mind, and the raging Blue Ranger felt a bit of calmness flood through him, a bit of anger wash away- but only a bit.
" What are you talking about?! I've always wanted to be an actor... " Joel said, but he sounded a little.. less sure, his words laced with confusion.
" Well, you're certainly a bad one. " chuckled David, with the strange dark-laughter like tone to his voice.
" You're a walking lie, you know that? You just won't accept that you actually want this... you won't accept these powers... for a moment, you know, you were supposed to be the Green Ranger and.. " he pointed to Jacob.
" Our friend over there was supposed to be the Blue Ranger, but things.. well, things changed.. " David laughed. " I'd suggest the two of you switch clothing now.. "
Things had gone way off topic, to say the least.
" Green Ranger.. what are you talking about, and how do you know all this? " asked Jacob, his rage replaced by confusion.
" How do I know all this.. I've already told you all.. I've sold my soul to the darkness. " said David.

Kelkaiser sighed, resting a gauntlet on his helm. The drama of the five Rangers was playing out before his eyes, thanks to his magician Houma's power; he and Kurotana stood side-by-side, watching.
Smeg! I expected him to reveal his plans, all of it, to the other Rangers.. looks like I'll have to make him, if I want the Procession...

How many ways can I laugh evilly, I wonder? Hopefully, this next bit won't be so confusing...
---
" Almost there.. " a shadowy figure mumbled to himself, sneaking through the shadowy hallways of Kelkaiser's... HQ was the best word.
" Place doesn't look any better on the inside than the outside.. " The figure mumbled, remembering the place's exterior. The hovering black monolith, sculpted into the impression of a tower on an obsidian island, had lain resting within a cloud's depths, unseeable by any...
Until he had gotten here. And unlike the castle, he was very visible to everything.
But the white Ninjetti garb he wore- formless white all over, with a black band around the waist, and a coin-like image studded into the legs and the chest- proved he had the skills to stay hidden...
Which, given the enemy coming his way, he'd have a chance to use soon. Looking down the hall, the White Ninjetti's black eyes caught sight of an oncoming Kenokaze. Hurriedly, he pressed himself into a shadowy corner of the hallway, parts of which were lit and parts of which were not.
The creature of wind came down the hallway, off on some duty- it slipped through the light, its catlike senses almost not picking up anything-
Almost. Suddenly, the creature turned as if in confusion- it had seen something! The confused servant's gaze wandered around the hallway- and fixed itself on the White Ninjetti.. It paused for a second, as if unsure- then it became sure of what it saw, knew the enemy that lay before him...
And then, in a flash of white, the Ninjetti dashed from the darkness. A sword like a tiger's fang came up, slicing the creature atleast three times. Dashing to the other side, the White Ninjetti turned around just in time to watch the Kenokaze fall to its knees and vanish in gold light.
Silently, he watched it, thinking.
Darn it! I was trying to avoid killing anything here... now he probably knows that I'm here! the Ninjetti's mind whispered, thinking about Kelkaiser... the armored scourge, the enemy...
Still, I have to press on.. those Rangers need saving.. the white ninja thought, his thoughts passing to the Starcrest Rangers as he snuck through the hallways, wound his way around the place.
Searching was the White Ninjetti, searching for a path to the cell he knew the Rangers were locked in- trying to find a way to free them.
Both from their imprisonment and from the darkness in their morphers. The endless corridors began to blend into each other, his search becoming a motion the combat-master's body carried out while his mind wandered to other things...
To flashbacks of the past....
***
The White Ninjetti and his foe, clad in black robes, leapt into the air at the same time and kicked out in perfect synchrony-
And their feet crashed against each other, sending them both smacking down backwards into the grassy fields below with a cry.
Spinning back to his feet, the White Ninjetti drew his sword, the sword that resembled a tiger fang. He watched his black-clad foe rise to his feet...
And remembered the time when the figure had been his friend, someone he had known very well.... but that was not now.
" Stop! You don't have to do this! " he cried to the figure, the words sounding wooden from his mouth.. and he knew it.
The figure chuckled. " I have to.. I have to destroy the White Ninjetti, once and for all! " His voice and laughter were insane, shaking the world to its core.. it sounded like a he, at least.
" You don't have to kill me, my friend... You don't have to. " The plea sounded ridiculous, sounded wooden, but the White Ninjetti was deseprate to get his friend back.
" Oh, I do... " he laughed. " I do! " Throwing off the robe, the armor of a Starcrest Ranger was revealed underneath-
But the color was blurring, blurring, as the memory played itself out. The images blurred in the White Ninjetti's mind.. but one was crystal clear.
Of the Starcrest Ranger- whatever colour he might've been- flying back and vanishing, the body being revealed.. dissolving into a burst of light which imbedded itself in the golden band used for morphing. That flew away, and everything began dissolving into golden light-
The mysterious White Ninjetti shook his head to clear it. In an instant, he realized where his body had guided him- so skilled was he that his body carried out the motions of his subconcious even when he was lost in his own past....
He saw himself somehow in a shaft, dangling above a cell.. where a girl in yellow, a guy in green, and another guy in blue stared open-mouthed at a guy in red, with a pink-garbed girl watching...
With a smile, he punched open the shaft grate and dropped below-
***
Sara was caught off guard by the stranger who'd appeared before him.
" Who are you? "
" No time to talk... " the white figure said, hurriedly for some reason..
" I've got to get you all out of here... "
" Get us out of here?! " asked a confused Joel, having seen the stranger.
" Who are you, anyway? " asked Mick, confused.
" Another nutjob! " said a sarcastic Joel.
White Ninjetti sighed, watching the conversation break out.
Now isn't the time for this.. he thought.
But his thoughts were interrupted by David, who turned to him; a growl of anger escaped his lips, a dark gaze froze itself on his face...
The Red Ranger leapt at the mysterious White Ninjetti's throat.

" Die! " David roared, his hands locked on the White Ninjetti's throat, the two of them rolling around in the floor. The other Rangers stood, frozen in shock, watching the two grapple for their lives-
Until David's foe, with a twist of his combat-trained body, swung the boy off him and flat onto the floor. Even the dark skills given to David couldn't help him against a Ninjetti master such as this-
But he could sure try.
The White Ninjetti spun to his feet and drew his sword. Spurred on by the dark reflexes, David tried to knock him off balance with a kick. But the Ninjetti skipped aside with inborn grace, darting in to the side and planting the sword at his throat-
Great... moaned David. Now HE's got me, and he'll stop us for sure... Clearly, he knew a lot more than the other Rangers did.
" Surrender. " The White Ninjetti said, pointing his sword at David's throat, his mission seemingly forgotten in combat.
Maybe I can.. play with his mind a bit.. The Red Ranger thought, feeling the darkness he welcomed crawling through him, giving him ideas...
" You honestly wouldn't destroy me, would you? " asked David.
" No, you wouldn't, you're not evil... " he said, continuing before the White Ninjetti could even get a word in.
The Ninjetti looked at him curiously for a second, as everyone watched in suspense. He held the sword for a minute at his throat- then, it looked as if David's words had struck a chord. Lifting up the blade, he spoke.
" Surrender.. " he cried again, but he'd changed his tone. " Surrender.. I have to get you all out of here, and I can't do that with us fighting.. "
David looked at the Ninjetti, hard.
" I'm sorry, but I won't.. "
Joel took the opportunity to enter into the conversation.
" Uh, dude.. he's gonna help us get out of here. I think you oughta just surrender to him so we can.. you know, get out of here. "
" Look who's talking.. " Sara chuckled. " You're the one who called him a nutjob... " She motioned to the Ninjetti, whose sword was still pointed at David's throat.
Said Ninjetti whirled about at once. " Please, be quiet! " he growled, and it seemed strange.. he realized it too, for he sighed. " Sorry... "
He was surprised a moment later when David's foot slammed into his back and he stumbled. David arose behind him.
" I'd have expected a Ninjetti to have better reflexes.. " he said, a smirk crossing onto his face-
A smirk that wasn't wiped off even when the Ninjetti spun around and kicked David in the stomach, dropping him to his knees...
***
" Oshiakeru za Arisama... " the magician Houma mumbled, and his staff crackled with energy; a spell to do his master's will, to make the Red Ranger reveal the truth, formed in blue energy...
Looking aside at Kurotana, he sneered.
Pathetic swordswoman.. he thought. Too busy being enraptured in that stupid fight between those whelps and that gods-cursed Ninjetti... but I am above such things... I am..
His thoughts were interrupted by Kelkaiser, also watching the fight through magic's means; a hovering image in midair that played it all out before him.
" Hold off on that spell... " Kelkaiser said. " Wait for my signal.. "
Houma nodded, and the spell vanished into his staff, to be called back again.
" And one more thing, my magician... no matter how much power you gain, it is not foolishness to enjoy watching your enemies fight.. you learn their weakness, and if you're lucky, they destroy each other. "
***
Even with one hand only available, the White Ninjetti was still fending off David fairly well.
" Listen to me! " he growled, blocking one of David's attacks with the blade's flat edge, turning his arm aside.
" You have to come with me.. I can help you! "
" Help me.. with what? " David cried, aiming a kick at the Ninjetti.
" Help you become good! Those Starcrest Powers you wield.. your ' mentor ' has corrupted them with the power of darkness! I can help you, so that you don't have to serve him.... " the Ninjetti cried, turning aside the kick.
" Sorry.. " David growled. " But I'm afraid that I prefer the darkness! I like it better.... " he sneered, actually landing a punch on the now-distracted and shocked Ninjetti...
Said Ninjetti cursed inwardly.
If he's already influenced by the evil... of the powers... then the others must be too... it's too late for them.... like it was too late for.. no, maybe I can... He glanced around, seeing the other Rangers frozen still, staring at the fight.
" What're you planning to do, then? " the Ninjetti cried.
David rattled of an answer that was confusing to all but himself and his foe.
" Unlock the Procession of Angels, of course.... "
" What the heck is.. whatever he just said? " Jacob mumbled to his sister.
" Search me. " she replied.
The Ninjetti, however, knew full well.
" The Procession of Angels.. you mean.. "
" Yes.. that! " David laughed, shocking everyone with a backflip, the darkness filling him again.
" The way to loosen 17 beings on the world.. seventeen beings who can be used in anyway that is seen fit to manipulate the world! And that's just the start of my- " he gazed at the Rangers, his Rangers.
" - our plans.. " he amended, with a smirk.
" What...?! " all five of them asked in confusion, frozen.
" Yes, our plans.. " David said, turning towards them. Now was his chance.
Now, I can get them to join me.. they all have to join me, my.. friends, yes.. the Red Ranger thought, and something more was laced in the darkness of his thoughts.
Now! the White Ninjetti thought. Now, I can get them to come away from the darkness they must serve.. but I have to force it out of them.. startle them..
" Join me or be destroyed. " The White Ninjetti finally said. " Join the good or be destroyed! "
" What..?! " all five of them cried...
" Yes.. you must choose whom you will serve now.. join the light, or the darkness! " the Ninjetti cried..
Why not..? a voice suddenly whispered in Joel's head. You have nowhere else to go, nothing else to do.... your life's a waste, without any way to express your only talent.. join the darkness..
Jacob suffered the same voice. It's the only way you can save her.. and him, yes him.. you wanted to destroy that madman, why not do it from the inside? Join the darkness...
And then came Mick's turn. There's nothing for your life anyway.... join the darkness...
Lastly was Sara. Who can say what your fate was to be? Join the darkness, and you'll know.. no more uncertainty...
Inwardly, the voices drove them to their answer.... and they accepted, casting their souls headlong into the darkness at last.
Joel spoke, at last, and it was... a tone, like David's, but more like his original voice.
" Sorry.. but we've chosen the darkness....

Kelkaiser gave the word.
" Now, Houma! "
The spell was cast, and the cell's occupants found themselves being warped off...

Now, face my fic-writing! Again! BWAAA!
---
Kelkaiser stared at the unmorphed Rangers who appeared before him, and their.. companion.
So, you've come.. he thought. I certainly didn't wish this to happen, but if you must come here, then you must die.. The armor-being sighed, watching them all. His eyes traveled across the chamber, with its screen... the walls were covered in a thin set of strands, hiding a variety of things....
Bright lights shone from all over, illuminating the six foes who stood confused in his chamber. Kurotana advanced, a horde of Kenokazes materializing from the walls through gateways that formed, walking out to surround him- the cat-creatures followed the motions of their superiors.
The purple armor man regarded his magician, who watched the advance with interest- but he didn't move in. He did, however, speak.
" Rangers! " he bellowed to the surrounded group, who regarded the hordes with.... something he couldn't define. They looked up at him as one.
" You are the Starcrest Rangers, are you not? " Houma asked.
" Yes, we are.. " said the one Kelkaiser knew to be Red, the one he knew was called David.. Kelkaiser knew these things, as he knew many other things.
" You are in the prescence of my Lord Kelkaiser! " the magician roared, ignoring David's reply.
" Show respect to him, as he shows great respect to you in letting a foe like you live! " Houma roared, secretly hating the grandstanding speech- simplicity was better for him.
" Sorry, but I don't respect people who can't speak for themselves. " The Blue one interjected, the one Kelkaiser knew was Joel.
Well... these Rangers have spirit. thought an amused Kelkaiser. It'll be most enjoyable to have them under my service and tame their spirits.. and it'll be quite a slap to you, old friend.
The armor fiend laughed, thinking of his once-friend and ally, the other who wanted the Procession, the one he'd have to kill... in Houma's mind, thoughts roared in the tormenting void that was his soul.
Blue Ranger, how right you are! Houma thought, knowing their identities thanks to knowledge Kurotana had provided him. How I wish I did not have to deal with a crazed fool.. I'd much prefer a master whose thoughts I knew! But still, he spoke.
" Silence, worm! " he growled, slipping into the cliche persona he'd cultivated as a mask. " I should destroy you for even talking that way to the Master! "
Indeed, his staff began to cracke with blue energy at the thought of destruction, though not of the Blue Ranger....
" Come now... destroy someone who's worthy of it. " snapped the White Ninjetti, feeling very disgusted at the choice of the Rangers.
It's too late... he growled. Those fools are abandoned to the darkness, and I can't help them! They're too weak.. they don't deserve my help! These thoughts coursed through his mind and governed his words.
" What do you mean? " Joel snapped, turning around and feeling a bit insulted.
" You're a weak-willed fool who gave into the promises of a madman and someone even weaker than you.. "

Was it really right? David thought, ignoring everything around him.
What I did, to influence them...? I mean, I like these beliefs, but I don't want unnatural Rangers- I want those who'll help me on purpose, or not at all! the Red Ranger growled.
Everything was submerged below his thoughts; Houma's droning, the White Ninjetti spat, and the whole area. The only thing that he heard was his thoughts...
And Yumo's voice, drifting into him, calming him as it had many a time in their short acquaintance.
Doubting, my Ranger? I didn't expect this from you.. the voice laughed, sounding almost remonstrative.
Forgive-
Do not do that.. it's annoying. Yumo whispered, sighing within David.
I came here, anyway, to assauge your fears- the powers you called upon did not turn your Rangers into drones, change them forever.....
David sighed, happy that none of them were changed... he liked them as is.
It merely amplified slight feelings they had, honest and true ones.. in time, they'll come to truly join the Rangers, but this spell will carry them throughout a bit of Rangerhood, shall I say? Yumo whispered, voice vanishing for about the billionth time.
And David sighed, another of his questions answered by the mentor. The mentor who was propelling him into a destiny he wanted to follow to his death...
And, judging from the looks on the other's faces, one that the others were just coming to enjoy as well.
***
For the first time, the White Ninjetti began to notice things as he looked around. He too was ignoring everything, even the insults of
That girl isn't clad in pink.. that's a pink stain. What was I thinking..? he mumbled in confusion.
" Is that really something to be thinking about now? " a haughty voice whispered from the folds of his robes.
" Think, rather, about how you judged these Rangers.. they aren't honestly evil. I sensed it... something is influencing them. "
They're not.. evil Rangers? he thought.
" No, they're not. " the voice sighed, reading his mind.
" You called them weak fools, if I remember; they're far from that, actually. " The voice said. " Such judgements you make- you're so confident, so arrogant, just like the original White Tiger Ranger... just like.. "
" Silence! " The White Ninjetti snapped under his breath, memories brought up, for he knew the name at the end of that sentence.
" Yes, well, there is no time for that. " the voice replied. " As I was saying, these Rangers are truly not evil; they are only.. warped by that madman. Even the Red Ranger.. the one who tried to choke you to death. " clarified the familar tone.
" Yes, of course... " the White Ninjetti sighed. " So, I have to try and help them? "
" Of course.. it is what he would do. " the voice whispered, a world of meaning in the words.
" Of course.. " the White Ninjetti sighed bitterly. " I have to live up to.. him.. I'll save the Rangers, then, but I don't think I can do it now.. I'll need your help. "
" You always do.. " the saber dryly chuckled. " But I will help you... I am, of course, the.. weapon of the original White Ranger of Zordon. "
" Indeed you are, Saba. "

Yah!
---
The White Ninjetti was a skilled swordsman, among other things; with one blow from Saba, he blocked a fatal swing of Kurotana's. The two of them dueled across the floor of Kelkaiser's chamber, everyone else watching silently.
" I must say, Ninjetti.. " Kurotana sneered. " You have courage... to attack us with that living sword of yours. "
The dance of the blades continued as the swordlady marveled over what had happened; in a flash, the Ninjetti's cursed living sword had leapt from its master's cloak and released red energy beams that struck them all; the hated master, the arrogant magician, and the swordlady who had begun a fight with
the offender and his blade.
" Let's just say- " the Ninjetti snapped. " I did something I've been wanting to do for a long time. " He swung at the soldier's legs, but she blocked the attack.
Kurotana laughed.
" You're very witty as well- but wit does not help you win a war. Skill does! " she growled, suddenly leaving her chest open to attack. The Ninjetti thrust with Saba, skipping forward.
Kurotana stepped aside and batted the back of his head with the flat of her blade expertly, causing him to drop Saba. The living sword was silent, but Kurotana was not.
" As you can see, I've bested you.. " she said, watching as he fell, seeing him prop himself up on his hands and knees. With a laugh, she kicked him, turning him flat on his back.
" Surrender. " she now commanded, standing in front of him, the blade pointed at his chest... He lay very still and silent, but his feet seemed to be tensing up....
And then he lashed out with a kick, the foot slamming into her armored hand.
Gritting his teeth against the pain, the White Ninjetti watched her sword fall out of her hand onto the ground. In an instant, he kicked it away with his feet, rolling to the side to pick up Saba before rising again.
***
With a sigh, the White Ninjetti looked over it all.
" It's high time I leave.. " he mumbled to himself. " Saba, would you mind doing the honors? "
" Of course.. " the sword said. " Though I must say, this didn't go according to plan.. we were supposed to teleport out of here without incurring the wrath of evil swordswielders. "
" What plan ever works out the right way.. " he mumbled, looking as much at the Rangers as the villains, Houma in particular... His gaze was broken when Saba did his work, and he teleported off in a flash of white.
***
Kelkaiser wasn't at all shocked by the teleportation as the rest of the silent occupants of the room were.
I expected him to do something like this... the master sighed, before banishing all those thoughts from his mind and turning to the five Rangers who stood before him, ringed by the Kenokaze. They stood silent, just as he had after a bit.
Cursed ninja, interrupting my thoughts... the master thought, regretting even having watched the man's silent conversations- it had driven him from what he wanted.
Sometimes the... senses that came with his armored body did not help him.
The thrice cursed ninja's monologue with a sword had even interrupted the amusing witty banter he'd been hearing.. though, gazing at the crackling energy on Houma's staff, that was not the case.
Nonetheless, he turned to the Rangers and spoke to them again.
" Red Ranger... " he whispered, talking to the red-wearing youth; the others watched it all in the silence they seemed condemned to.
" Call me David. " the Ranger replied casually.
" You don't speak like one who's scared of me, nor one who wants me dead.. why is that? " the curious armor-being replied.
" Simply enough.. " David replied. " That's because... I'm not a good Ranger. " He spoke in that strange voice that made him seem like someone else, that dark and confident one.
" Well, of course you're not a good Ranger. It's only your first day on the job. " Jacob remarked. A smile appeared on his face, though within his soul, the fires of light and dark now raged...
Mick and Sara watched as well, smiles appearing on their faces... and Joel..
Joel seemed to be staring at something far away, a dazed look in his eyes.
The magician Houma chuckled, his staff ever crackling, and Kelkaiser turned to him.
" Houma, please remove your spell from the boy.. I'm trying to talk to these Rangers. "

" You fool, you idiot! You vile and pathetic thing, you.. you bloody child-killer, you.. murderer, you.. "
The White Ninjetti yelled at and insulted Joel, sounding not at all like himself; but the Blue Ranger didn't care as he looked around confused.
" What happened? " he asked out loud- and got no answer, as the White Ninjetti continued to insult him.
" Fool, idiot, devil, son of- "
" Shut up. " Joel snapped, but the Ninjetti didn't as he drowned the Blue Ranger in a storm of insults. Not that Joel cared, of course- he was too busy noticing something else.
Everything and everyone was gone, replaced by pure white. The White Ninjetti could easily be missed in all the white, but there he was in all his glory, spitting insults at Joel.
" You foolish idiotic little- " he continued to shout.. but he was interrupted again. Not by Joel's annoyance, but by the fact he was dissolving into white energy.. energy that floated up into the air and reformed as a gigantic image of Houma's face.
" Wh.. what? " he mumbled in confusion.
" I'm sorry... I'm afraid this illusion is being cut short. You see, my name is Houma.. and I've been playing a game with you. "
" Wha..? " Joel mumbled in confusion, unable to form words at the moment.
His eyes almost bugged out as he watched even more crazy things happen to him...
" Yes, I've been bored, and listening to that idiotic swordswoman and my wonderful master... is not very entertaining, so why not use my powers to make you think something different is happening to you... Isn't it funny? "
" You have a warped sense of humor. " the Blue Ranger calmly replied.
" Yes, well... what can I say? Kurotana's not exactly an entertaining target, so I... " The image suddenly blurred and fizzed like a staticky TV screen before it returned to normal.
" Yes, very sorry about that.. Now, back to our fight. "
***
Kelkaiser watched as the Blue Ranger snapped back into normalcy, his eyes losing the glazed look.
" So glad you could join us at last, Blue Ranger.. " Kelkaiser said.
" Well, I'm not sure who you are, but lemme guess.. you are.. uh, Kurotana? " the humour-tongued Joel replied.
Kelkaiser laughed, which was kind of odd coming from a being with a body of armor.
" No, no... and I apologize, I haven't.. introduced us all. I am, as my magician Houma told you, the Lord Kelkaiser... Kurotana is my swordswoman. " He indicated the dragon-armoured soldier.
I am much more than a simple swordswoman.. she thought, but said nothing.
" Now that all the Rangers are here, perhaps I can make the proposal I was going to make before our white friend and my magician disrupted the proceedings... " he said.
He spoke, and...
***
David watched, looking around at all of his Rangers. His powers, the powers he'd opened his soul to, allowed him a bit of sense- somehow, he could sense a tapestry of things woven into their souls, things he liked and things he didn't.. but one thing he found was some kind of acceptance of their Ranger destiny..
And he liked it.
With such loyal Rangers.. he thought. I am sure they won't stray from our dreams, that they'll ignore.. this! He said to himself, replaying everything that had been said in his mind.
" Rangers, I offer you.. the chance to join me, and seek out the Procession under my rule.. " the Lord had said.

After 3 long years (it seems like that) an update emerges from the abyss. And I need to make an edit that changes some confusion.
HINT: If this sucks, I'd like to know how to make it not suck.
***
" No. "
Jacob was surprised to hear himself say it, but he did- and the lord Kelkaiser craned his helm around to look at the unmorphed Green Starcrest Ranger.
" Green Ranger, that is not your choice to make- that is the Red Ranger's. Am I correct in assuming that he's the leader of your team? " the armor fiend asked in a calm tone.
" Well, I guess he would be- but you know us. We're evil Rangers- we don't follow orders. " Joel smirked, striding into the conversation with a smirk- and Jacob was inwardly shocked.
Any further conversation was drowned out in the roar of his own thoughts, which rolled around in his own mind.
What's wrong with him?! he screamed to his soul, seeking answers. He sounds.. different.. like David! What is happening to us..?!
Nothing is happening to you.. a different voice whispered through his mind, soothing... yet infused with the same confident dark tone he'd heard in almost everyone today.
Accept the darkness... accept it... his mind whispered to him. It is good, it is natural, it is right...
Jacob had heard this voice several times before, ever since he ' accepted ' the Starcrest Powers. And now he listened to it again.
Serve, serve, accept.. you shall have all that you want, all that you want and more.. Images began to dance in Jacob's mind, as the Green Ranger began to feel like someone drowning- ensnared in a pool, unable to rise from the depths.
SERVE, SERVE THE MASTER YUMO.. GAIN YOUR DESIRES, YOUR LOVED ONE, YOUR HAPPINESS, YOUR JOY.. SERVE, SERVE, SERVE! the voice roared, building up to a climax in his skull, pounding into his mind with an awesome roar.
Images seemed to flood the Ranger's mind, and Jacob began to think it was all happening too fast, too soon, too bloody fast as he was hurled down a river of experiences and feelings and words..
And then a bright light burst into his mind, and all was silent.. and all he saw was white. The Ranger was now removed from the world, placed in this white room.
" What the...? What's going on here? " he asked himself. " Where am I...? "
" Away from the darkness.. " a voice whispered. Jacob turned around and saw something shocking- a figure in grand red/brown/gold armor, on which a single mark of an eye rested in the helm's center.
" Who are you? "
" I.. was once Saba. "

David strode towards the dark armor fiend, the fires of conviction a blazing inferno in his soul. Out of the corner of his eyes, he watched Jacob.
The Red Ranger saw his Green comrade mindlessly staring away in a trance, not knowing that a battle in the other Ranger's soul between darkness and light was causing this.. but it wasn't because he didn't care. He was too busy to notice- as he was too busy to even wonder why all the others just stood around in silence, waiting for his answer....
No! a voice repeated in David's head, thought given form. It echoed the answer that the team's leader longed to say, but he'd wait until he got closer...
Close enough to attack.. he thought with a smile. Images danced in his head of his morphing, leaping into the air, slashing the armor fiend with a powerful blow that would sever his head from his skull..
" Traitor.. die, traitor.. " the Red one heard in his daydreams, but paid no heed to the words...
Until the image and voices were dispelled with a smack into an invisible wall.. or something like it. He stared at it, in surprise...
***
" Surprised, Ranger? " the draconic-armored Kurotana said, laughing as she strode towards him. With the others watching, she spoke, pointing her sword at him.
" It's a shield that protects the master- courtesy of the magician over there. " she said with a smile, even as she inwardly cursed the field as little more than a cowardly trick...
God-cursed cowards should try fighting for once instead of hiding behind barriers! Kurotana thought, looking over at the magician and the armor-fiend... those unnatural fools, she thought, all of them employing tricks that complicated the arts of combat... still, no need to let them know that...
***
Kelkaiser smiled inwardly.
Hmm.. she honestly doesn't care that I can probe thoughts, she thinks what she likes.. courageous. Very courageous, almost like.. him.. their enemy thought.
But enough of that- there is more pressing matter at hand. Smirking inwardly, the armor field trained its forged gaze on the Ranger before him.
" Really, there's no need for theatrics.. a simple yes or no will do. "
" No. " replied the Red Ranger simply.
You've trained them well.. old friend. the Lord said, laughing to himself.
But I want your Rangers, I want their power, and I want the Procession- and I mean to have all three, make no mistake.
To the being's shock, a voice answered.
I doubt you'll get all of them.. or most of them. Those Rangers are mine.. they believe in me, and they will serve me! Yumo's voice danced through his mind, raging with conviction and stress, as if he were under some kind of stress or attack..
Kelkaiser quickly put that thought aside.
" Well.. " he muttered, putting thoughts to words. " I see.... " He searched for the right words, and found them atlast in the midst of all that silence-
" Attack. "
***
" STARCREST LIGHT, SHINE! " all five of them cried in response as the Kenokaze forces and Kurotana swarmed around them.
Surprisingly, it worked now- David smiled, almost hearing the mage swear under his breath. The Red Ranger found himself catapulted into something he loved, and he surrendered to the bliss...
***
Into the light, Joel.. into the light. You have nothing, you have nothing, morph and rise.. morph and carve your way to your desires!
That makes no sense.. Joel thought, but he had nothing to say. The darkness overtook him, and he didn't even resist...
Guess I am weak.. a forgotten corner of his mind whispered as the Blue Ranger's armor formed.
***
The same voices beckoned to Sara... but she anticipated it.
" My god.. what's happened to me? " a fragment of her soul whispered, remembering brief instances of their first ' battle '- of a brief struggle that she had loved, that she had enjoyed. Of something rushing through her body in combat, a force that drove her on, a warm force she enjoyed...
And then she too was lost in the armor of the Pink Ranger.
***
Go.
One word was whispered to Jacob's sister, and she obeyed, transforming into the Yellow Ranger..
***
" FIGHT IT! " Saba's armored form growled at Jacob, feeling himself torn up.. both at the spirit's revelations, and at the darkness that called to him, urged him to become a Ranger.....
Darkness which he succumbed to. In an instant, the room of his soul winked out like a snuffed-out candle, and he found himself changing into the Green armor even as the words of the Paladin Saba danced in his mind...
You are not like the others.. the fire of light burns as strongly as the dark within you.. you must throw off the dark, take on the light.. you must become one of my order.. you must destroy.. the darkness... you must become.. a Paladin.. of Meledon..

Good god, it's update time. ^^ I'm not sure what that means, so on with the show-fic thing.
---
The fight was on, as everyone clashed against everyone in the cramped chamber- save for the Master Kelkaiser. Protected by a shield, he sat back and watch, turning his attention to Kurotana's fight...
***
Kurotana's eyes wandered to the suit of her opponent, as she turned aside strokes from the Red Ranger's Saber-moded Blast Dagger. His visor looked very sharp, formed from lines and angles. There were white bands around his wrists and ankles, near the boots...
And then, before the swordslady could see anything else, David's blade turned hers aside and landed a direct hit on her armor.
W-what? she gasped in her mind, stumbling back in shock. That's impossible, that's...
A strong voice from another part of her mind broke through, all of a sudden. Fool- even a master soldier can be hurt! You are not invincible! This burning version of her own voice, which she had heard many times before, stirred her back into the fight....
With a cry, she charged right back in, sword raised to strike- she landed a direct blow that slashed the Red Range from head to waist and sent him flying back. He landed on the ground and did not move, hands clenching up.
A smirk appeared on her face as she walked towards him.
" Luck can only carry you so far.. " the swordslady smiled, now immersed in the element of war- everything around her save the enemy and herself had now faded away into the background.
" I don't need luck.. " the fallen Ranger replied. To her shock, he was on his feet now... she thought she saw some kind of darkness surround him, moments before a furious volley of slashes batted aside her sword and sent her flying back to the ground..
Like her opponent, however, she would not give up- rising again, she dashed forward. With a kick, she knocked the sword out of his hand, and it became hand-to-hand combat now...
***
Two fires, one light and one dark, raged within Jacob's soul for control.
And right now, the light side was being beaten.
Order... of... Meledon... Jacob whispered in his mind over and over again, leaving the darkness within to control his body and mindlessly tear through the Kenokaze hordes.
Order.. of.. Meledon.. he repeated inwardly again, remembering those last words from the Paladin Saba's spirit before the darkness had claimed him; before it had quenched away all the light in that strange room, beckoned him to join the darkness and accept its fight...
... The same room of darkness now served as a prison for his soul, even as the darkness controlled him.
Looking around within himself, Jacob saw nothing-
But himself, walking towards him. Confused, he blinked- and saw it again.. that exact same person walking towards him, wearing from neck down the Green Ranger outfit.
" Who are you..? " he asked- it was the first thing Jacob thought of.
" Call me.. " the mysterious being replied. " Jake. And as you will undoubtedly ask, I am here to ask you again- join the darkness... serve it. " Jake said, beckoning in that same voice that had been driving at his mind.
" No. " Jacob replied.
" ... Wrong answer. You will serve the darkness... not yet though. Not yet... " Jake crytpically said, as so many had done.
" No, I won't.. "
" Oh, trust me, you will.. "
" You'd have to kill me first. "
" Trust me.. " Jake replied. " I wouldn't go that far... besides, why would I kill someone who's already such a part of me? "
" Well, if I won't serve the darkness, what're you gonna do then? " Jacob slung back.
" What I've been doing just now, of course- masquerade as you through posession. "
" They won't- "
" They?! " Jake laughed. " They- they've already submitted to the darkness. They don't care about you. Only I do.... and that's because I need you to exist.. " he replied, still sounding as he'd always been like somebody who was trying to pass a lie off as the truth and kind of succeeding.
Jake turned and slung a parting shot- " Farewell for now... I'll be back, later... to convince you to join the darkness... your friends have, after all.. " Now, he sounded like he had something in store for him-
And even if Jacob didn't recognize that, it still creeped him out.

Sara, having summoned her Blast Dagger, was having an easy time of it- the Kenokaze were falling like grass in the wind, and Jacob was carving through them like anything with the Saber mode of his weapon.
Four of the teeming horde cycled around her- and all four charged her. Leaping forward, she slashed through the first one, that strange force guiding her as she tore it apart with the small dagger.
Only for one of them to leap over her head with catlike grace, landing and smashing a paw-like foot into the Pink Ranger's back that. Stumbling, she spun around and fired blasts from the dagger's tip that struck it and tore it apart.
The other two now charged her- one having cycled around to her back in the chaos, so that she was getting it from both front and back.
" Blast Dagger, Saber Mode! " she cried, mimicking David's earlier call. The dagger became a saber, which tore apart the grunts.
All too easy.. she chuckled. Any apprehensions from earlier were gone, replaced by the fire of combat...
Hmm, this is.. fun. the Pink Ranger thought.
She never saw the 4th Kenokaze coming, as she threw herself into a fight with the others-
But she heard it explode.

Heehee- after days and days and days, I give to you- an update!
---
Smeg! the magician Houma swore, snapping up his staff. I meant to hit that Ranger, not that stupid grunt..
Luckily, no one had noticed his attack had gone off course. Having moved into the midst of the ' stupid grunt ' horde, he'd intended to just stay there and pick them off with lightning blasts.
Better to get them before they get me, right? he'd reasoned. Unfortunately, a bit of miscalculated aim had thrown off the shot. But atleast nobody'd noticed him, and he could remain safe, unharmed-
That was what he thought before his back exploded in pain. Turning around, he saw the Blue Ranger, Saber-moded Blast Dagger having completed one stroke and now readying for another-
And he reacted. One short-range blast of energy, courtesy of the staff, caught his attacker in the chest and knocked him off his feet. Striding over, he pointed the staff at his seemingly unmoving opponent, energy crackling-
" All too easy. " he said, preparing to unleash the blast...
And then he was hit twice- crackling bursts of red energy slammed into him first, causing him to drop the staff and dispel the killing move. Surprised, he didn't have any time to avoid the foot that was planted into his chest, the foot that shoved him back several feet.
Springing to his feet, the Blue Ranger laughed.
" You should know when to surrender and when to fight.. " he said, in a perfect imitation of Kurotana's voice.
This obviously shocked him.
" What happened to your voice, Ranger? Why do you sound like.. that hell-devil of a woman? " he bantered, pointing to the real Kurotana as she dueled with David in the middle of the chamber.
" It's a trick I can pull off.. you don't like it? " he said, his voice changing back to the original. But Houma wasn't paying attention.
PAIN! he screamed, suddenly feeling something overtake him- something darker and mightier than even the powers he wielded.... The.. pain.. he said, feeling something flood through him... but it didn't want him. Whatever this power was, it wasn't trying to attack him, because..
... My god. the magician realized. That power... is in those Rangers.. in all of them.... I have to flee, I have to escape.. these Rangers could prevent us from getting the Procession.... with all that darkness, I don't even think they need it.. We have to leave...
" But how.. ? " he thought out loud, even as he saw the slinger of red energy, the Yellow Ranger, leap into his sight, having fought through the mindless grunts.
" How are you going to be defeated... is that what you want to know? " replied the Yellow Ranger, completely unlike herself..
" Painfully.. " finished the Blue Ranger, changing from dark and confident to a more sadistic twist of tone.
Bloody smeg, they'll kill us.. unless I summon a.. sacrifical lamb... Houma's mind was like a laser, quick and sharp... he knew what he had to do.
In an instant, he vanished before the shocked Ranger duo's eyes in a flash of dark energy.. and appeared in front of Kelkaiser. His master appeared confused- but when he saw the motions, he knew what was going on, and secretly motioned to Kurotana.
Her eyes caught that, and she knew what to do- just before David could land a powerful stroke on her, the swordslady vanished, and the Kenokaze did too..
" What the...? " Houma could hear the Red Ranger saying in awe, moments before...
Kelkaiser himself vanished, and only Houma and the Rangers were there.
" Rangers! " the magician cried to his dumbstruck foes. " I think it's time you face a new opponent.. Secticon, arise! " Out of his staff shot a dark orb that flew into the center of the room, before bursting open on the ground to form a pool-
From which an insect-like form could be seen arising...
