View Full Version : New 12" Black Ranger (Pics Inside)

I picked him up today at Target. At first I wasn't too happy with Tommy's face, but the more I look at him the more I like it. I think the thing that makes it look just a bit off is the black hair and eyebrows. They should really be dark brown. I'll let you form your own opinions though. Unfortunitely no Brachio Morpher or Staff is included so you'll have to use the ones from the first 12" figure if you want him to be complete. I wish the white turtleneck part was included like it shows on the box, the figure looks off especially with the helmet on with a black turtleneck. His voice sounds like Conner, which I don't get since last year's Ninja Storm figures all had their proper voices. All and all a decent figure. Worth it to have a 12" Tommy, but Bandai could have done better. Also note that the black lines on the shoulder pads were added in by me with an ultra fine point sharpie. The grooves are there though so it's very simple to do.

It might be the pictures (or me), but his head looks un-proportional, but his helmet is fine. I want the first one though.

The head is small so the helmet can be in proportion to the figure. Otherwise if the head was in proportion, you'd all be bitching why does the helmet look so damn huge! lol

I was so looking forward to a 12" Tommy figure that actually looks like Tommy. Oh well at least that figure has more likeness with JDF than those retarded MMPR-Turbo Auto-Morphins.

Despite the back of the packaging even showing him and Conner in Super Dino Mode the figures are just in their normal forms.

I am currently looking for a Ken or GI Joe doll with a body in better proportion to the head of these figures, at which point I will do head swap, I also plan on doing some repainting, and touch up sculpting to increase the likeness a little bit, still I think this is a pretty good figure. It will look better when the body is in proportion though, so for now I'm on the hunt for a smaller (yet large) figure body. Any suggesstions?

Why do I suddenly think "Evil Tommy" a la "Goatee Spock" when I see this?
Also, TrippEisen620, you might want to try some of the bodies from Dragon, BBI, companies like that.

I thought all PR actors would get their faces scanned these days - well as long as they're male.
I think the figure does have actor likeness but Bandai fucked up the skin tone.

RoboRider, if I were you, I'd try to take the helmet off your other Black Ranger and put Tommy's head on that, it looks more proportional (i.e., slimmer) than the one it's on now.

They usually do, just look at how pale Dustin's face is on the 12-inch Yellow Wind Ranger.
RoboRider, if I were you, I'd try to take the helmet off your other Black Ranger and put Tommy's head on that, it looks more proportional (i.e., slimmer) than the one it's on now.

While this is bumped, did anyone ever wind up painting the head differently? My only real complaints is the stache, and that his hair and eyebrows are black rather than dark brown.

I didn't bother changing the head. I did paint a white collar on his neck so it looked ok with the helmet on though.

its kinda a givin that actors already sign to allow them to use thier likeness anytime they want. (packakaging, posters, toys, whatever)
its obvious they tried to make it look like him, but kinda failed.

It's not the sculpt, it's the paint. With a different paint job the thing would look perfect.
what other colors were released? I heard Yellow Wasn't released which really sucks, I know if they made one for the SPD line damn...i might even consider.buying them, they look really cool hope they make ones for the MF team.

Blue wasn't released with a removable helmet (only the 1st wave with slide up helmet).
So all the rangers (minus blue & yellow) got a removable helmet figure.

Yes lucky us we got two 12" Conner's with removable helmets but no Ethan or Kira. Ninja Storm WOULD have been perfect if Green Samurai got a removable helmet version. Kind of funny how when Bandai finally makes a 12" girl they fuck up on one of the guys. Can't ever give us the entire team in 12" scale with removable helmets.

The main demographic of Power Rangers doesn't like girls, because they happen to think girls have cooties, and thus, sadly, Bandai has no appeal to market girl characters to. Aside from those Pink and Yellow Ranger Barbie Dolls from like a decade ago.
Oh yeah, and bang up job on bumping the most dead thread on the entire damn board there, Scooter.
