"Casting calls" are way overdone. People should give them a break.

*bump*
And is it that hard to come up with your own original characters? Do you really have to get others to write bios FOR you?

Yeah, that was one. But you know what? I've been coming up with original characters for my fanfic well over four years. I've done one "contest" (not even a real casting call) for ONE character, and that was only for two reasons:
1) to get some interaction between me and the readers
2) to introduce more readers to my series
Now also note that this was done quite some time ago. You know, way back before casting calls were being spewed out of someone's ass every five seconds? These things are becoming as predictable as reality shows.

Also, I haven't asked them to write a bio for the character. I just asked them for their name, sex, and some hobbies and any extra info. These people have them writing their own zords, arsenal, background stories, blech. It's all too much. What's the point of doing a fanfic if all you're doing is coming up with the title and having everyone else write characters for you?

Ditto.
But be careful how loudly you say what I've been saying for over a month, or you'll get a bunch of members hating you, like they do me whenever I post an opinion over in Discussions.
(Am I ever getting a huge Ignored Members list...)

No, but c'mon. If you are planning on righting that many at once, then by all means do so. If not, finish one before writing up the concept for the next series.
And that's aganist the point. Casting Calls suck.

I would agree. As a general rule, if you don't have an idea of what you want to do with the characters, you don't have a fanfiction.

Well, what about my casting call though? That isn't the same is it? With mine, you just submit a photo of yourself- you PLAYING that character. The characters have already been developed. But its more like casting the actors to play those roles is what mine is... That's a TRUE casting call, am I correct?
