Tommy sat in the Dino Thunder control center and sighed deeply. ‘I am getting to old for this.’ He thought to himself. His body was protesting moving after the last battle. None of his students realized the true reason why Tommy tired his best to stay out of the battles if he could.

For unlike his younger teammates, he did not have their bounce back easily qualities that those who were still very young had. He knew he was not old. However, he was feeling the pain of battle.

He typed away into the computer. He already finished grading papers for his classes at Reefside. He shook his head. Some of his students were honestly going to drive him beyond distraction with the way they answered his science questions.

He looked at his watch, his only other adornment other then his transformation bracelet. Frowning he got up and left the command center for the Dino Thunder Rangers. Leaving his home, he drove listing to the songs of his younger days with a small sad smile ion his face.

Some of these songs made him think of her and that cut at him deeply. He growled at himself for it. “I let go of it. Yet still it clings to my heart this ghost of a memory.” He shook his head and hanged the channel.

Parking his jeep, he went into the Cyber Café he found his teammates where already there. He had to be happy they could meet like this with them being his students as well made things like this so much harder. “Thin lines.” He muttered only Kira heard him.

Kira looked up at her teacher; she took a quick sip of her water. Standing up she smiled at him. It was then Tommy realized there was another young woman at the table with the others. She looked a bit older then the others and she nodded to him. She was dressed in a scarlet baby t-shirt, black straight leg pants with all kinds of buckles and things on them. Tommy spotted a black boot on one of her seeable feet. Tommy noted absently that she was quite tiny much like someone he rather forget. Her hair was dark brown almost black pulled back in a ponytail. It looked almost like she forgotten to brush it before she pulled it back.

Kira spoke up. “This is my cousin, Brandie. Doctor O she just moved here.” They both nodded to each other.

“Kira I really don’t get why your cousin came up here.” Conner said looking at the young woman.

“I came up here for I have no where else to go.” Brandie spoke softly her accent strange to all their ears.

“Your accent?” Tommy asked interested taking a seat as Kira smiled a secret smile as she walked up to the stage to sing her new song.

“I grew up in Japan.” Brandie smiled lightly. “My parents were diplomats there since I was a small child.” She turned and smiled lightly. “Looks like Kira is about to sing.”

Tommy watched both young women. Not sure, of whom he should really watch for the newcomer was engaging yet Kira was his teammate and he enjoyed her singing.

Kira stood on stage and looked into the crowd. “I wrote this song for a friend. Sometimes we cannot help what’s going on inside of us. You know who you are.”

Kira began to sing:

Deep inside is darkness.
Blood red darkness that has captured me.
Steeling me up.
Stripping me bare.
Making me feel like the world around me is dead.

Ice shrouded.
Cutting deep.
Frozen solid.
Dripping my life.
Upon the frozen earth.

The darkness grows consuming me.
Killing my dreams.
Stealing my will.
Enshrouding my vision in darkness.
Darkness that is colored blood red.

Killing me slowly.
Making me burn.
Burn in the frozen flame.
I watch as it flows.
Blood red against white.

Killing me.
Don't you know that you're killing me?
Can't you see that you're killing me?
Killing me, I am gone.”

Her voice trailed off as she finished her song. The crowd around her burst into applause and she noted the thoughtful look on Trent’s face. She smiled lightly at him. Grateful he understood what she was trying to say in her own small way.

Kira walked off the stage, rejoined her friends, and newly arrived family member. Brandie looked at her. “Very good Kira. I felt that one in the depths of my soul. You really know how to speak to the heart.”

Kira smiled warmly. “You think it was good?” She blushed lightly then went on a little more. “I tried my best.”

“It was good Kira.” Ethan said smiling at his yellow wearing teammate.

“Exactly who was that about?” Conner asked sullenly. “I don’t get it.”

Tommy smiled lightly for he had gotten who the song was for. He eyed Trent out of the corner of his eye. Trent was trying his best to be discrete in looking at Kira. Tommy had to smile for he noted Kira was doing the same.

A soft voice broke into his thoughts. “Young love gotta love it.” Tommy turned and looked at Brandie who was shaking his head. “I am glad she found happiness.”

They all heard the click of heels on the wooden floor turning they took in a small woman coming toward them. She was dressed in light pink and Tommy paled. She smiled upon seeing Tommy. “Hello Tommy.” She smiled brightly at him.

“Hello Kim.” Tommy managed to stay without stuttering. “Did not know you were coming around this way.”

“Just passing though, business trip ya know.” She smiled brightly at him unaware of his discomfort.

“Do you always breeze in and make people feel uncomfortable?” A voice spoke up. Tommy realized it was Brandie. She had placed herself between himself and Kim. Seeming to almost guarding him, shielding him from Kim's advance on him he was not sure to be grateful or offended that she did not think he could not handle himself.

Kim frowned at his upstart young woman. “He is an old friend.”

“So old you make him uncomfortable?” Brandie sallied back. Brandie frowned and sighed. “Only one type of person can make a guy this uncomfortable. You’re his ex.”

Kim blinked as Tommy inhaled sharply. “You...” Kim stepped forward a bit feeling a bit put out by this girl in front of her.

Kira stepped beside her cousin. “Don’t even go there. If you’re making Doctor O uncomfortable you need to go.”

Trent stepped up as well. “I think you should go. You interrupted out time together Miss.”

Kim sighed as she watched the rest of the teens fan around Tommy making it difficult for her to get to him. She mostly glared at the girl who started it. Kim humped at them. “At least I could get a guy. With a face and body like yours,” She attacked Tommy’s first defender personally. “So scarred you must scare off people. Hope you like girls sweetie for that’s all I see you ever getting.” With that, an angry Kim strode away.

Tommy sat down heavily in a chair. “Oh that is no good. Why?”

“Women are catty.” A familiar voice spoke Tommy turned seeing Hayley standing there. “Though I think her words hurt their intended target.”

Brandie returned to her seat and she sat with her eyes closed. It was then that Tommy noted the faint scarring on her cheeks. He could tell she been using something to lighten the scars. Kira placed a hand on her cousin’s shoulder. “Brandie?”

“No I am not ok.” Brandie opened her eyes. “I am a bit battled scarred.” She sighed shaking her head. “I am not going to go over that ground again.” She shook her head smiling sadly. “Yes Kira those words hurt. For I am scarred, they are lightening but still quite visible.”

“Exactly why you come here?” Conner persisted with his questioning of the new person while Kira glared at him.

“I have some family here.” Brandie answered still skating around the question for she did not want to really answer. She closed her eyes the pain in her heart flashing across her face. “That is why.” Her answer was too vague for Conner so he sighed noting the look on Tommy’s face.

Ethan looked at Kira and Trent they both shrugged at him. With Conner, there was no telling why he did things. He just did them.

Hayley looked at her. “What happened?” Her concern made everyone look at her. She pulled up a chair.

Tommy blinked and looked at Hayley and the new girl. He noted the others drew closer to keep any onlookers from intruding in on this talk.

“There are reasons why I come back from Japan.” She looked at the other woman. “I am just not ready to talk about them.” Frowning slightly Brandie looked at the group sitting about her and slapped her forehead. “Oh all the…” She laughed lightly.

Kira smiled she suddenly realized what her cousin meant and what her cousin had been as well. “What color where you?” She asked suddenly. That made the boys look at her. Hayley blinked and smiled shaking her head. Tommy she noted looked stunned.

“Scarlet, sixth.” She answered. Brandie looked at her cousin, Kira blinked. “They are no longer with me though.” Brandie closed her eyes. “In a fit our foes decided to step up their attacks to destroy. They went for blood and got it.” Brandie sighed. “I went after them they destroyed all of them. I hunted them down and took each and everyone of them down.” Her hands shook. “I destroyed our foes by playing loose with the rules that bind us.”

“You’re team is dead.” Tommy repeated his voice was shocked. He looked at her shaking form. “I...”

“Don’t pity me.” Brandie asked. “I know that’s the natural response. But don’t.” Her voice was soft. “Only when people start asking does the pain get unbearable. Until those moments I can go on living each day.”

Ethan blinked. “You killed them all?”

“Wow.” Conner blinked. “Destroyed your foe single handedly.”

“It was not that easy. It was not that pretty.” Brandie sighed looking at her hands as if inspecting them for dried blood of her foes on them she sighed.. “Don’t think for once that I had a cakewalk when doing this.”

Tommy noted she was still shaking.

“I became so dark during that time.” Brandie winced then felt someone squeeze her hand she opened her eyes and found it was Doctor O looking at her. “Doctor O?”

“Call me Tommy.” He looked at her. “Your how old?”

“Twenty-two.” Brandie said softly. She watched a smile appear on Tommy’s face. “Why are you smiling?”

“I am a bit older then you and I am rangering.” Tommy smiled. “I thought I was too old.”

Brandie shook her head. “Only here do the warriors they choose are so young.” Brandie pointed out to him. “Over in Japan most of the warriors chosen for this are older teens or in-between twenty and forty.”

Tommy smiled. “God that is refreshing.”

Both exchanged a smile. Kira smiled leaning on Trent for a moment to whisper to him. “That is cute.” She watched as her cousin’s eyes flickered over to her and she inwardly groaned.

“Kira you mother did ask me to mentor you in martial arts. Do we need to start now?” Brandie asked her cousin.

Tommy smiled. “How would you like four students plus a sparring partner?”

Brandie blinked. “You mean them and you?”

“Yeah." Tommy smiled. “It would be nice not to go this route alone.” He looked at her. “Mentor with me?”

Hayley smiled watching Tommy make a new friend.

“Hai... I mean yes.” Brandie smiled in return to Tommy’s smile. She then looked at the crew before her. “We begin this evening.”
