Masked Rider 2004

It started out as a day not unlike any other. To be specific, it was a Wednesday, but I highly doubt that you care. Only I care. Only me, because that was the day that my life was changed. That may seem like some corny line from a Disney tale, but, let me assure you, this is no Disney tale in any way, shape, or form. This is my tale. The tale of Kyle Tieshen, the Masked Rider.

Like I said, it started out like a normal day. It was summer, and I had a part-time job at the local restaurant. Around here we call it Don’s. Which none of us really understand why, on account of that the guy who owns it is named Mick. But, anyway, I was there, in that stupid blue apron, paper cap on my head covering my straight blonde hair. “Number Thirty-five!” I called out as I put the tray on the counter, hoping the person who had ordered it would be some beautiful girl whose shirt I would be able to look down as she fumbled in her purse for money. But, alas, I was foiled again. A man came up in a black trench coat, a bowler hat covering his eyes. I rang the food up and the guy paid me and left. Now, to begin my bad day, the guy gave me a black card. He gave me money, yeah. A dollar bill and a black card. Now, at that point, my only worry was that this had cheated me out of money before my own eyes. So, I looked around for the bowler-hat guy, but he had left. Which was just my luck that day. So I gave the counter up to some other pimple-faced seventeen year-old. Luckily, I was a hell of a lot better-looking then him. Anyway, I followed the guy outside and behind Don’s place. And that’s where it all went wrong.

The dude was being eaten. And I mean devoured. By this gigantic yellow spider thing that was just sitting their, the guy wrapped in a spider web cocoon, his legs just kind of hanging out of its mouth. And this part really grossed me out…I could hear, and see, the spider crunching down on his bones with its teeth. That was really, really, nasty. Anyways, once the beast finished with its appetizer, I guess it decided that I would make a good entrée, so he advanced on me. And it was moving pretty damn fast, too. So I ran out front, jumped on my motorcycle, which was a falling apart piece of crap, and rode off. But, to my surprise, the beast kept up with me. So, in translation, things were not going well for me. I kept driving, taking all the turns and shortcuts I could, but it still kept within a couple of feet behind me. Well, it eventually must have decided that it wasn’t healthy to eat moving foods, because after a few more minutes I looked behind me and it was gone. So, I turned around to see where it had went. Yeah, most of you probably think that was a stupid move. And, I agree, it was. If I hadn’t gone to look for it, I wouldn’t be writing this. Anyway, against my better judgment, I turned my bike around and followed it. Following it wasn’t too hard, on the account that it left a big stream of yellow slime as it moved. I followed the trail into and alleyway, complete with dead end, but the spider had disappeared. I got off my bike and looked around until I picked up a broken mirror. As I looked into it, I didn’t see myself…I saw the spider.

Back then, I really couldn’t explain how it had happened. I could explain it to you now, but wouldn’t that ruin all the suspense? Anyways, the spider then began to move around inside of the mirror. It had soon moved completely out of the mirror…but not back onto the ground. No, it moved onto the surface of a trash can. I didn’t know how, but the creature was staying inside of the reflective surface of the can. I could see it and it could see me, but we couldn’t touch each other. Suddenly, it picked up speed and began to move from can to can until it began moving inside of the windows of a nearby building, which was, to my surprise, the Mall. Luckily, the mall had a fire escape on the side, so I climbed up in hopes of catching up to the spider. When I finally got to the window it was resting in, it launched itself inside of the building. Now, it may have been my curiosity, or just my stupidity, but I took my foot and smashed it through that window. I pushed away the glass and stepped inside. After about two minutes, I realized where I was. On any other day I would be glad to be in there, but that was just not my day. I was on the fifth floor in the Gap. In the ladies’ dressing room.

Well, at first I thought the room was empty. No luck. A scream soon came from one of the stalls. So I, being my naturally heroic self, threw open the door. It was about then when my breath began to fail me. Their was a woman in there, alright, and she was naked, alright. But she hanging upside-down from the ceiling, engulfed in a spider web. And at the same time, the giant spider was emerging from the mirror that took up an entire wall of the stall. I could see the woman was trying to scream, but couldn’t. As the spider began to advance on her, my breath finally returned as I jumped forward, delivering a single kick to the beast’s gruesome neck. It response, it grabbed me in one of its powerful legs and flung me out of the stall and into the far wall, where I slid to the ground as the creature enjoyed its second meal for the day. At the point, I was just waiting for it to eat me, for their was no real way I could hold my own against it, let alone kill it. And I almost got my wish. The spider slid over to me, grabbed me in two of its long legs, and flung me out of the broken window and to the ground five stories below.

I landed on a car and rolled onto the ground. “God damn it!” I remember yelling as I added car damage to my list of things I had done that day in my mind. I scrambled to my feet and brushed myself off as I saw the person that had been driving the car. That was probably the best part of my day right there. This girl was insanely beautiful, she was. She had long black hair that went down to her stomach. She had these beautiful, innocent blue eyes that you just couldn’t stop staring into. She was wearing a pair of dark blue jeans and a tight, white shirt, in which I could just about see her nipples. There was a brown jacket sitting the passengers seat. As she got out of the car, my happiness was ruined as someone drove up on a black and silver Harley Davidson. He had spiky black hair, jet black sunglasses, and was wearing black jacket and black jeans. He seemed very formal at that time, but I soon learned that he was the biggest jerk this side of the Mississippi. Again, I’m sorry for all the cliques. Anyway, the first real noticeable thing about him was that he was holding a black card in his right hand. It was then that I remembered I still had the card that the man in the bowler hat had given me. It took it out and examined it, noticing that while one side was pure black, the other had a silver bar at the top with the word “SEAL” in black letters. It also had a blue and purple vortex design taking up the rest of the card. As I was examining it, the girl turned to look at me. The guy did the same a few minutes later. “You!” the girl called out. “Are you one of the Masked Riders?” she asked. That was the first time I ever heard that word…that horrible word that changed my life. At the time, though, I didn’t have time to decipher it. The black card I was holding began to glow, and within a few minutes, I was somehow sucked inside of the reflective surface of the car I had landed on.

The next thing I knew, I was falling. Just falling, falling through void, empty, nothingness. I was scared to death, which was, at the point, what I was sure I was going to reach pretty damn quick. Suddenly, blue cloth began to spread over my existing clothes. Very simple, dark armor began to spread over the cloth. A mask spread across my face, eyeholes that were red on it. Even without seeing the front of the mask, I could tell it was magnificent. There was also a strange silver and blue device attached to my right wrist. Around my waist was a silver belt with an empty, black hole in the front. As I looked down at the plaid armor I was wearing, I hit the ground, landing next to the same red car I had been sucked into. But both of the people that were with it were gone. The driver’s seat and passenger seat were reversed. I looked around at the parking lot I was standing in, and all the cars were like that. The words on road signs were backwards. The large sign on the mall now read “LLAM,” and the words on all other buildings had been reversed. It was like being in a mirror, which is why I have, since then, dubbed it the “Mirror World.” Anyway, I started to think I was going crazy. That is, until I saw the giant, yellow spider. Normally, that would have assured me I was crazy, but I knew by now that…that thing was real. Really ugly, but real nonetheless. Now, as the spider advanced on me, I did the first sensible thing I had done all day: I ran.

Now I wasn’t there to witness this, but things were going on in the “real” world, too. That beautiful girl was staring at the hood of the car, where she could see me running from the beast. If I had known she was watching, I would have never ran from that thing. I would have fought and proved my manliness…no, wait, I would have still ran. But in a manly way. Anyway, at the same time, the spiky-haired guy was staring deeply into a nearby window. He then pulled out a deck of cards and placed it under the Seal Card. He held it out to the window and saw a belt materialize on his reflection as the same happened to his physical form. He placed the deck of cards into the empty slot on the front of the belt, which revealed the golden bat design on the top of the Seal card. Anyways, he called out the word “Henshin,” which I know from studying some Japanese means “Transform.” Black cloth spread over the teen’s own clothes. Silver armor spread over his upper body and shoulders, as well as black boots. His mask over his face resembled that of a medieval knight. A black cape then appeared on his back as a sharp blade with a black hilt appeared in his right hand. He held his hand out to the window, concentrated on it for a few seconds…and disappeared into it.

Meanwhile, in the “Mirror World,” I was having my own problems. The spider had cornered me, and it was poised to strike. Suddenly, the black suited warrior appeared in midair and struck the spider with his blade. He then landed, his cape blowing in the wind, in front of me. “Hey…who the hell are you?” I asked, confused. “That is not for you to know.” the man replied, leaping into the air. A card then materialized in his left hand. He slid into a slot in the handle of the sword. “Sword Vent.” spoke a mechanical voice from the sword. A large bat then flew overhead, casting its shadow over the duo. The bat dropped a short lance into the guy’s hand. He took it and sped forward, driving the blade into the beast’s underbelly. It then flicked him away and into a nearby wall. Now, I had done some stupid things that day, but I wasn’t an absolute idiot. I reached into the empty slot on my belt, now filled with cards. I pulled out the top card and inserted into the strange device on my wrist. “Sword Vent.” the voice said. A simple sword with a white blade and a black handle. I charged forward, the blade at the ready. “No, you idiot!” the man in black yelled, getting to his feet. But I paid no heed to his warning. I lunged at the spider, only to have the blade knocked from my hand. It disappeared as it hit the pavement. I fell to the ground from the impact, and the beast raised its legs to strike. As I braced myself for the impact, I heard the mechanical voice from behind me say “Advent,” and, to my surprise, the great bat that had given the dark-clad man the blade swooped down and struck with its claws, breaking off two more of the spider’s legs, causing it to collapse. I jumped to my feet and looked at the creature. “Well, that was easy enough.” I said with a forced chuckle, trying to hide my fear. Suddenly, the creature lunged at me and knocked me to the ground. “You weakling.” the other teen said, stepping up beside me. He inserted a third card as the voice announced “Final Vent.” The abnormally large bat swooped down at the man. At first, I thought it had turned against him. But, to my surprise, the bat melted into the man’s body. He then leapt into the air with surprising altitude and his cape wrapped around him, causing him to resemble a drill. He then spun downward, striking the spider head-on. I shielded my eyes from the intense light the impact caused. When I lowered my hands, the guy clad in the dark armor was walking away from a burning circle of fire, the bat flying over him.

“Who the hell are you?” I asked for the second time. “Where am I? How did I get here? Why am I here? How did we get this armor? Why…” I continued. He then slapped me across the face, his immense power sending me crashing into a wall. I landed underneath a protruding roof from a building. As I began to walk out, a ball of fire fell from the sky, landing inches from my feet. I looked up into the sky and saw…a dragon. A brilliant, flying dragon.

Two teens sat a handmade book down on the ground. One was a girl with black hair tied in a bun, green eyes, black jeans and a brown jacket over a maroon shirt. The other was a male, with short black hair, auburn eyes, dark green shorts and a flannel shirt. “This…can’t be real, Courtney.” the male said. “It is, Mark. I told you about the light from the mirror in my room last night that this book came from. It had Kyle’s signature on it, and you can tell it’s his from the crappy writing.” Courtney replied. “So this is why Kyle disappeared…” Mark said absently. Courtney snatched up the papers. “We have to keep reading. We need to find out what happened to him.” she said. Mark nodded as they began reading again.

I'm intrigued. I liked that you didn't just get the armor and instantly know how to fight--way too simple. However, all the checking out women stuff kinda makes you come off a little immature--no offense. Keep it up, I'd love to see more.

Nice. You could call it Masked Rider Knights or something. Not sure taking the terms directly off KR Ryuki would work that well, maybe come up with something that's work in a US adaptation like MMPR. Maybe throw in some reference to the old Saban Masked Rider show - no need to raise Edinoi, but they could transform by saying "something-Phase Activate".

I only skim read it, but from what I saw it is good. Some advice this may just be me, but long chapters are a turn off mabey you could post them in parts...

Actully, it's not told from MY point of view...if you read the whole thing, you'd see that it was a chapter from a book written by Kyle Tieshen, being read by his friends Coutney and Mark. For some reason, he chronicled his Masked Rider adventure and sent it to them from the Mirror World...but we don't know why yet.

Good idea, thanks Aaron.

I'll try that.
