Chapter X: Mystical Warrior Grandus

Kelsey stood, staring at her robed grandmother in the doorway. “Why?” she asked, choking back tears. “Because…” the elderly lady croaked. “You do not need the visions. When your mother was born, your great-grandmother and I decided that the visions would not continue in this family. Therefore, we have been using our powers to stop the visions from happening. Every ten years I return to erase the visions from the both of you. It is now your turn.” the woman explained, slowly advancing on Kelsey. Kelsey backed up against the wall, trying to find somewhere to escape to. Her grandmother then lunged forward with surprising agility. Kelsey quickly moved out of the way as the woman went sprawling into the wall. She got to feet slowly, realizing that her grandchild and herself had switched places. “Come here, girl!” the older lady yelled, moving forward. Kelsey ran through the doorway and into the hall. Her grandmother followed, surprisingly light on her feet. The two ran through the upper hallway until Kelsey went crashing through the banister and fell to the ground below. Her grandmother looked on, hearing the cracking sound as Kelsey hit the floor.

Meanwhile, Trent stood, bewildered, looking at Lance. “What….what do you mean?” he asked. “The doctor told me they found him dead last night in his sleep. But when I looked at the body, it wasn’t my father. I don’t know who it was….but it was not my father.” Lance replied. “Well…what about your brother? Wasn’t he in the same room?” Trent asked. “No. They moved him to intensive care last evening. He was having spasms, flipping out. At least, that’s what they told me.” Lance replied solemnly. “Well…shouldn’t we find him?” Trent asked nervously. “I…I guess.” Lance replied, still in shock. The two began to walk forward, but they were suddenly confronted by a man in a filthy, brown, hooded robe. “Who are you?” Trent asked, confused. “You may know me as…” the man began. He lowered his hood, revealing his gray ponytail and dark green eyes. “…Sai Kani.”

Upon hearing the name, Lance and Trent quickly went into their fighting stances. “Well, how defensive.” Sai said, chuckling. “Boy, you can come out now.” Sai called. The Orange Scorpio Ranger then stepped out from behind Sai. “Hello, Rangers.” he whispered, summoning his StarBlade and Stinger Blade, one in each hand. “How did you know?” Lance asked, bewildered. “My friend here told me about you and your little friends…Brad Kolona and that Asian chick, right?” Rick explained. “Well, since you know, we’ll have no problem doing this!” Trent replied. They both pulled their pendants out in front of them. “Zodiac Power, Ignite!” they yelled. “Cancer Aura, Now!” Lance yelled, morphing. “Aries Aura, Now!” Trent screamed, morphing. The two summoned their StarBlades and their respective weapons, just as Rick had. Sai was next. He extended his pendant, called out the familiar phrase, and was soon clad in the cloth-like armor of the Silver Capricorn Ranger, his StarBlade and Capricorn Blade in hand. “Now,” Sai began. “We will spare your lives…if you join with us. Together, we will not only slay the Kahns, but we will rule over the planet, controlling and seeing all with our Zodiacal powers!” he exclaimed. “How about…no.” Lance replied, sneering. “Very well.” Sai replied, sighing. He charged forward, the Scorpio Ranger by his side.

Sai lunged out with his staff-like weapon. Lance raised his Cancer Claw to block it, slashing at Sai’s chest at the same time with his StarBlade. Rick then leapt over all three Ranges, slashing Trent and Lance from behind with his arsenal as he landed. Trent quickly let out a kick to behind, catching Rick by surprise and knocking him backwards. Trent then lunged forward, only to be struck by the tip of the Capricorn Blade. Sai then used the blade to fling the Aries Ranger against a nearby building, causing him to fall to the ground. “Burner!” Lance yelled, rushing towards his friend. As he ran, Sai and Rick simultaneously struck him with their weapons and side arms, causing him to scream in agony. He fell to the ground, trembling as a circle of blood began to form on his stomach. He stumbled to his feet and put his right hand to his badge. The Cancer Claw vanished, disappearing into the vast pocket dimension of the badge. “Cancer Zord!” he screamed into the night.

At the empty beach, the water near the shore began to ripple. A wave of water began to wash over the sand as the giant, mechanical crab known as the Cancer Zord began to rise from the sea. It stomped through the beach and into the city, trying desperately to avoid smashing into buildings. When it reached the industrial clearing the Rangers were standing in, Lance got a running start and leapt onto its back, shoving the StarBlade into the small, key-like slot near the neck. The Cancer Zord’s eyes shone a bright, green light as it stared down on the other Rangers. “Lance!” Trent yelled from below. “Get that thing to the beach before you destroy any homes!” he commanded. “You’re right!” Lance replied. He turned the StarBlade towards the beach and the robotic beast obeyed, tramping back to the beach. Rick and Sai ran forward, Trent close behind them.

The gigantic crab turned three hundred and sixty degrees as it reached the beach, facing the other Rangers once again. “Fool!” Rick yelled, pressing his hand to his badge. His weapon faded in the same matter as Lance’s. “Scorpio Zord!” he screamed. For a few seconds nothing happened. Trent and Lance looked on, hoping his attempt had failed. Suddenly, the ground began to shake at their feet. A large hole began to form in the ground, almost like it was formed by a drill. As the zord surfaced, Trent and Lance discovered why. The scorpion zord was gigantic, the same size as the Cancer Zord. It was made of a deep orange central body with a large, golden number five engraved near the back. The head was built into the body, lifeless black eyes staring ahead. From underneath the body came many small, black legs that kept the zord moving. Two “arms” extended from each side, ending in large, silver pincers. A silver keyhole sat not far behind the head. From the rear of the zord extended a large, orange, curved tail that curved forward and over the body, ending in a large, silver point. Rick took a running start and jumped onto the back of the zord, inserting his StarBlade into the slot. The beast’s eyes glowed a brilliant green as the beast let out a screech and faced the mechanical crab.

“It’s on!” Rick yelled, the zord charging forward. The large, silver pincers clutched onto the crab’s body, knocking it backwards and causing Lance to stumbled backwards, losing his grip on the StarBlade. He quickly regained his footing and grip. The Cancer Zord was then rammed into again, this time feeling the might of the metal tail. Lance then quickly responded and telepathically, as Sirius had instructed all four of the Rangers to do, commanded his zord to grab onto the tail with its pincers. He succeeded, and his zord threw the Scorpio Zord into the air and onto the ground. As the scorpion charged forward again, it was thrown to the ground by a gigantic red falcon. The falcon then swooped back down, hovering in the air next to Lance. “Hey, buddy!” Trent yelled from atop of the falcon. He then swooped down again, attacking Rick’s zord with a barrage of bullets from the falcon’s wings. “Damn you!” Rick yelled, looking into the sky. “I could use some help!” he yelled, looking down at Sai. Sai nodded reluctantly and placed his palm on his badge. “Capricorn Zord, Arise.” he sighed. A few miles outside of the city, a large mountain began to shake. A rock wall began to lower, revealing a humanoid zord. It had a silver body, feet, and hands. It had white arms and legs. A large, golden number seven rested on its chest above a golden five-point star design. The head had a silver band where human eyes would be and a silver mouthpiece. Two yellow horns emerged from the left and right of the head, right on par with the silver eye band. The zord held in its hand two silver swords with golden handles. The zord disappeared as the stone wall rose back into position, masquerading as a mountainside once again. The zord reappeared in front of Sai as he leapt into the air and stood on the enormous left shoulder. He inserted his StarBlade into a small slot to the right of him and green lights activated behind the black band. The humanoid zord stood to the right of the Scorpio zord as they both faced off against the Aries and Cancer zords. “It’s about time.” Rick mumbled. All four zords then charged.

Meanwhile, Kelsey awoke under the debris from the banister. She got to her feet and then realized that there was a searing pain coming from her right arm. She put her left hand on it and felt a bone protruding from it. She then also noticed that there was an almost unbearable heat coming from around her. She looked around and realized that it was a fire, spreading up and down the walls. There was a note laying in the rubble. She picked it up and read: Well, well, well, missy. If you want to keep your visions, fine. You can keep them in hell. If you do wake up before you burn to death, I will be half way across the country, your mother by my side. Goodbye, you ignorant little wretch. -Grandmother Stark. Kelsey shuddered as she dropped the note to the ground. The fire quickly burned it to ash. Kelsey looked down and then realized she was standing in the fire. She had been lying in it as well. It had burnt her nightgown away, but the only marks on her were the bruises and broken arm from falling from the upper floor. The powers of Orion must have protected my body, she thought. She then put her mind back to the task at hand. She rushed up the stairs and into her bedroom, which the fire had yet to reach. She grabbed her rather large duffel bag from under her bed and ran to her dresser drawers, stuffing in all the clothes she could fit. She then scrambled to the closet, her right arm still in pain, and packed in a sleeping bag and a very small throw pillow she had made in Home Economics class so long ago. She then jumped in fear as the fire began to creep into her room. She quickly grabbed the golden sphere from her bedside table and jumped out of the window, landing like a cat on the ground below. She took off running and, since it was night, paid no heed to the fact that she was nude.

At the same moment as Kelsey jumped from her window, the Aries and Cancer zords fell to the ground, the opposing zords standing above them. Suddenly, the magnificent, mechanical shark known as the Aquarius Zord rose from the sea. The Rangers stared at it in wonder until the Aquarius Ranger somersaulted from the air and landed on its back, sliding it the StarBlade. “Mei?” Lance yelled in surprise. His friend nodded. “We managed to escape from that wretched hospital.” Mei called back. “We?” Trent asked. He turned in place to see the Taurus Ranger approaching aboard a large bull zord. It was mainly green, with silver legs and tail. A puff of green fur rested on the back of the tail, and golden hooves sparkled at the bottom of each of the four legs. “We met Sirius along the way!” Brad yelled, standing on a large, golden number four that was inscribed on the back. All four zords then lined up, side to side, facing the Capricorn and Scorpio zords. All four of the lined up zords suddenly let out a loud roar as the mechanical ground the Rangers stood on suddenly slid out from underneath them, dropping them into silver cockpits with black rotating seats that seemed to be made of a fine leather. Their respective numbers rested on wall behind them as the metal above them slid back into place. Control panels lit up around the Rangers as headsets emerged from holes in the wall. As the Rangers placed them on their heads, a computerized voice began to feed them crisp, clear information. As the message finished, each Ranger placed their hands on the controls. They each pulled back a color-coded lever. “Engage Megazord Sequence!” they screamed in unison.

Seatbelts formed over each Ranger as the zords began to move on their own. The Cancer zord sped forward and began to stand upright as it separated in half. A small slot opened up on each half and revealed solid black feet, which flew into the air and attached to the bottoms of each half. The Taurus Zord flipped onto its back, revealing a golden “v”-shaped design in the middle and a large, translucent gold stripe going across the chest as its legs and tail receded into its body. A dark green arm that matched the main color of the zord slid out from a compartment on the right, near the top, as did a silver piece of armor that covered the shoulder. The Taurus zord then leapt into the air and attached to the top of the two halves of the Cancer Zord. The Aquarius zord then leapt into the air and the head slid inside of the body as the tail and fins became silver and still, almost like spikes, as the zord’s underbelly attached to a connector rod on the side of the Taurus zord. It was exactly the same size as the other arm. The Aries zord then flew up and straightened out its wings and body perfectly, attaching to the back of the Taurus zord. The mouth opened wide and two jet-blacks fists with perfectly articulated fingers ejected from it and attached onto the bottoms of each arm. The head of the Tars zord then slid inside of the body as the head of the Aries zord slid disengaged and attached where the Taurus head once was. The mouth opened wide once again and a face slid down from the to half of the head. It had glowing green eyes and a mouth full of artificial teeth. The head itself was silver. The zord then flexed it fingers as all four of the Rangers’ leather-like seats slid on a track into the translucent gold stripe on the chest, where they sat, left to right: Brad, Mei, Trent, and Lance. Control panels came to life in front of each Ranger, which consisted of one joystick with a colored button on the top, a panel of numbered buttons from zero to ten, and a panel of buttons with different designs engraved in them. Before the Rangers could speak, the Megazord itself spoke in a man’s voice. “I am Grandus, the Mystical Warrior of Time. I have been called upon to defend this fair planet from whatever evil has plagued it. Now, you shall fall!” it bellowed.

A golden blade materialized in Grandus’ right hand and a silver shield appeared in the left. The Megazord charged forward, slashing at the Capricorn zord, which deflected the blades with its own sword. The Scorpio zord then attempted an attack from behind, but Lance quickly pressed in a set of buttons and held the joystick towards himself, causing Grandus’ right leg to arch back, sending the Scorpio zord flying backwards and crashing to the ground. Brad then took hold of his own joystick and spun it clockwise, causing Grandus to let out a spinning slash at the Capricorn zord. Grandus then lunged forward, slashing by itself and knocking both of the warrior-like zord’s swords to the ground. Grandus’ voice then came into the Rangers’ headsets once again. They followed his command and each pressed down on the button with the symbol of a bright flame as they inputted another set of commands. Grandus then leapt into the air, staying in flight by flapping the wings of the Aries zord. “If you do this, Black Ranger…” Sai’s voice began from inside of the zord. “You will never find your father!” he sneered. Lance gasped. “No! Stop!” he yelled. But Grandus’ sword disappeared as a small orb made of fire materialized in its place. “Grand Flame!” Grandus’ voice screamed, along with that of Mei, Trent, and Brad. The flame shot forward, knocking the zord far back into the ground, creating a large hole where it landed. Sai fell from the zord and landed in the sand, in civilian form, as the Capricorn zord disappeared in a flash. The seats of the five Rangers began to move on tracks again, soon reaching the foot of the right leg, which opened to reveal a path for them to walk out. As they got out, the foot sealed again as they demorphed. “Thank you for your aid, Zodiacal Warriors.” Grandus thanked them. “I will once again be separate now. If you need my assistance again, just follow the sequence I instructed you earlier.” he explained. And with that, he disappeared. The Rangers looked around in surprise as Lance ran to where he had seen Sai fall. He was gone, as was Rick and the Scorpio zord. “Dammit!” he screamed, throwing his head back. “I will find you, father.” he muttered under his breath. “So I can kill you myself.”
