MASKED RIDER DRAGON KNIGHT
Episode II- The Contract of the Dragon
“So, you’re saying that this man disappeared on the night of December twenty-first, 2001?” the detective asked. He was clad in a brown trench coat and had short black hair and dark blue eyes. He was holding a notepad in his hand as he spoke to Koji Sakibra’s neighbor, an elderly woman. She nodded. The detective looked around quickly, and then whispered to the woman. “And you say you saw him being devoured by a dragon?” he whispered. The woman nodded again. “Thank you for your time.” The detective replied. He then put the woman in a loose headlock and slit her throat with a knife he had concealed in his trench coat. He then pulled her key from her pocket and used it to get into the lady’s house. He threw her lifeless corpse into the basement and left, leaving the door unlocked.
“He’s late, Erika!” a man yelled. He was wearing a blue vest over a plain white shirt with a blue tie. He had a gray crew-cut and mustache and was smoking a cigar. “Mr. Orson, you have to understand!” Erika pleaded. “He maybe be a nuisance, but he does want to work at the Daily Record, and his intentions are good. So please, don’t be to hard on him.” She begged. “…Fine.” The man replied. Just then, Shinji burst through the door.
“Kido!” Mr. Orson yelled. “What is it?” Shinji asked, sitting down in his small desk. “You haven’t contacted us since yesterday, when Erika here sent you to check out the disappearance of Koji Sakibra, and you missed work yesterday!” Orson exclaimed angrily. “Um...I…was sick! I had the…the twenty-four hour flu. And I tried to call you but….um….my cell phone batteries ran out!” Shinji answered unsurely. Mr. Orson sighed. “I give you so many chances, it’s unhealthy.”, he groaned and walked into another room. Erika’s cell phone began to ring. She immediately answered it. “Again?” she asked. “Yes, I’ll be down their in a few seconds.” She added, hanging up. “There’s been another disappearance down at the plaza. I’ll be back.” She told Shinji while gathering her paperwork. “You shouldn’t go.” Shinji replied dryly. “What did you say?” Erika exclaimed. “I mean, there have been too many disappearances. It’s too dangerous to keep investigating. There are plenty of other stories to be found.” Shinji continued, pouring himself some coffee. “You idiot!” Erika screamed. She shoved a list of people in his face. “This is a list of every person who has disappeared! These are people’s family, people’s friends! And you don’t give a d*mn! I’m not doing this for a story; I’m doing this to help people! And if you just want a story, then you should just quit!” she screamed, leaving the room. “I can understand why she’d be p*ssed at you.” Mr. Orson said, returning to the room. He then presented Shinji with a bill. “What’s this?” he asked. “Apparently, a window was broken at Mr. Sakibra’s home yesterday. You were the last one recorded to be there, so we’re charging you with the bill of five hundred dollars. “WHAT?” Shinji yelled. “It was a very expensive house!” Mr. Orson yelled. “But I haven’t paid rent in months! D*mn it! D*mn it all to hell!” Shinji yelled, snatching the bill and running outside. He got on his motorcycle and rode off.
Shinji rode through the streets towards the plaza. He didn’t notice Ren following him on his own motorcycle, nor did he notice the red banner following him through the reflections of cars. When he reached the plaza, he stopped to see Ren standing behind him. “Why are you following me?” Shinji demanded. “Because the dragon is following you!” Ren replied. Shinji’s eyes widened in fear upon hearing about the dragon. Ren’s cell phone rang, and he answered it. “Yui?” he asked. “Yes, it’s me.” Yui replied from the other line. “Look, you have to go to the plaza. There is another Mirror Monster loose.” Yui continued. “I’m on it.” Ren replied, hanging up and running inside the plaza. Shinji followed.
Shinji stopped to look up at the interior of the plaza. There seemed to be millions of windows. Ren then ran into the elevator and went up. Shinji followed in a different elevator. The two arrived on the roof to see it covered in webbing with a mirror lying on the ground. Ren runs over to it and holds out his deck. His belt appeared and he inserted the deck. “Henshin!” he screamed, transforming into Masked Rider Knight. He jumped onto the mirror and fell through into the Mirror World.
Yui drove up to the plaza in her car. She takes the elevator up to the roof and watches Knight in the mirror with Shinji. “Is he okay?” Yui asked. “I think so.” Shinji replied.
Knight landed on the roof with the great bat, Dark Wing, following him. He looked around the webbing. “Time for some target practice.” He said to himself, inserting a card into his “visor”, the holster on his arm. “Sword Vent” the mechanical voice said. Dark Wing flew above Knight and dropped the short lance into his hands. Knight then ran forward and began disposing of the webbing. With in a few minutes, the roof was cleared of webbing. The same was true with the roof in the real world. Disposing of the webbing revealed the beast that had created it: a giant, golden spider with fangs the size of Knight’s arms.
Shinji and Yui watched as the giant insect threw Knight and his companion around like rag dolls. “I can’t watch this!” Shinji cried. He turned to Yui. “Isn’t there a way I can fight with him?” he asked. “Only….only if you become a Masked Rider again.” She replied quietly. “But I won’t let you.” She replied. Shinji remembered that she still held his deck of cards. “WHY NOT?” he screamed in rage. He took out the Seal card he had and ripped it in two out of anger. “Why did you do that?” Yui exclaimed. “Now there is nothing to protect you from the dragon! That card was your only protection!” she yelled. “I know. But I can still save myself.” He replied, pulling out a second card. “I kept one card.” He replied. The card resembled the Seal card, but was titled “Contract”. “Yesterday, Knight told me that I should have contracted a monster. And I think I know how.” he continued. He watched in the reflective surface of the roof as the dragon flew towards him. Yui closed her eyes. When the dragon flew right under Shinji, and prepared to shoot out a fireball, Shinji thrust the Contract card forward. The dragon’s fireball hit the card and was absorbed. The dragon then flew out of the roof’s surface, and straight into the card.
Blackness surrounded Shinji. He stared in confusion, with nothing but the Contract card in his hand. The dragon then appeared, but smaller. It flew around Shinji, and then wrapped itself around his body. He became clothed in armor once again, but it was more extravagant, though not to the extent of the Knight armor. It was mainly red and silver, with a small amount of black. He lands back on the roof in the real world and admires the contract card, now with a picture of the dragon. It is titled “Dragredder”. Yui then turns to him and hands him the deck. “Go.” She told him quietly. He nodded and step forward. He began to sink into the roof floor like it was quicksand. He landed on his feet in the Mirror World, only to see the spider throw Knight over the side of the building.
Knight plummeted through the air. Dark Wing flew down at top speed and caught him, flying him back up and dropping him onto the roof. He turned to see Shinji. “Who are you?” he asked. “Guess.” Shinji replied with a chuckle. He then faced the spider. He slid a card into his visor on his wrist, which resembled a dragon’s head. “Sword Vent” the mechanical voice said. The dragon, Dragredder, appeared and dropped a small scimitar into Shinji’s hand. He then ran forward and slashed at the spider, creating a deep wound. He then inserted a second card. “Final Vent.” The voice said. Shinji jumped high above the spider and Dragredder flew up to him, and engulfed him in fire. Shinji fell towards the spider at top speed and hit him with a flaming kick. As he landed, the flames died and the spider exploded into flames. Knight then walked up to him. “So then, I guess I should call you Ryuuki. Or Dragon Rider. It’s all the same.” He sneered. He walked over to Shinji, who put his hand out, expecting a handshake. Knight then kicked him in the chest. “Why did you do that?” Shinji asked.
Meanwhile, in the real world, the detective came up to the plaza roof. “Who are you?” Yui asked. “I am Rick. Rick Carter, private investigator.” He replied. He then turned his gaze to the floor to see Knight and Ryuuki. “Hmm…interesting.” He remarked. He then closed his eyes and opened them again to look at the ground. Yui gasped in horror as Rick laughed. A giant, orange, crab-like monster approached the two masked riders from behind.
