---Casefile Two: Dark Swarm

Prologue

The planet Drilax IV

Andros was running for his life across a barren desert world on the outskirts of the galaxy.

His pursuers were a group of distorted creatures made of exposed orange muscle and armor plating of black bone. He had no idea what they were called. No idea where they came from. He only knew that they were nearly impossible to destroy.

The ranger made it to the edge of a cliff that looked down upon a deep dark chasm below.

He turned towards the approaching soldiers as he readied the black rectangular shaped Digitizer he wore on his left wrist.

“Let’s rocket!” he shouted as he input the code 3-3-5-enter into the morpher. Red energy danced around his body as he morphed into his Ranger form of Astro Red.

The Ranger pulled out his sidearm and aimed forward at the ground below.

“Astro Blaster!” he shouted as he fired lances of blue energy that exploded across the ground in front of the soldiers, kicking up dirt and dust as he turned to the edge of the cliff.

“Galaxy Glider, hang ten!” he shouted as he flipped forward and landed on his sled-shaped hover-board. He leaned forward as the Galaxy Glider shot forward over the chasm, but his troubles were far from over.

The creatures sprouted wings of flesh and black bone as they leapt from the cliff and soared after the Ranger.

Astro Red looked over his shoulder as he eyed the approaching villains. “What are those things?”

He poured on the speed, but the creatures closed in with blinding speed as they extended their fists forward, blades of bone springing outward from the tops of their hands.

“I can’t out maneuver them like this,” Astro Red said as a trio of the creatures grew even closer.

He flipped backwards off of his board as the soldiers flew by underneath him. Astro Red activated a brace worn on his right wrist as he pressed down on its ‘3’ key.

“Red Battleized Ranger!” he shouted as red lightning surrounded his body. His body armor bulked as a pair of metallic wings grew from his back and gauntlets of weapons appeared over his wrists.

Astro Red fired a salvo of missiles from behind the creatures before they could alter their course. After firing the missiles, he climbed and arced backwards, jetting away from the villains.

The missiles exploded and ripped through some of the soldier’s wings as their bodies plummeted towards the ground. The remaining creatures rolled to the left as they turned and flew after Astro Red with powerful swoops from their wings.

Astro Red activated his emergency and auxiliary thrusters as he broke the sound barrier, creating a thunderous boom.

The creatures dashed forward in flashes of light and were on top of the Ranger in less than a second. Astro Red struggled to maintain control as the creatures started ripping the armor apart from his wings. He climbed and banked as he flew over the barren surface, struggling desperately to remove the creatures from his armor.

A quartet of the creatures ripped one of the wings free as Astro Red spun out of control and slammed against the ground, sliding forward as his body was thrown about and a cloud of dust left in his wake.

Mariner Bay, California

Carter smashed through the front doors of a hotel building and dashed through a giant wall of fire as his Ranger suit insulated him from the heat. He made his way towards the elevator shaft and activated his helmet communicator to open up a comm line with the other Rangers. “This is Carter, I’m going in.”

Rescue Red activated his Rescue Blaster in Baton mode and used it to slice the elevator doors open.

He hopped into the shaft and threw his rope up twenty floors, to where it latched onto the stuck elevator.

He climbed as fast as he could, and when he was halfway there, he heard Chad speak over the comm link. “Carter, I’ve rescued the civilians from the East shaft, but there’s no way for me to get them back down to the ground level.”

“Then you’ll have to take them up,” Rescue Red said as he continued to climb. “Joel, do you read me?”

“Loud and clear, fearless leader,” Rescue Green answered as he piloted the Aero Rescuezord around the building. He had used his Zord to rescue any civilians that were accessible from outside windows.

“Meet Chad on the roof. He has injured with him, so hurry,” Rescue Red said.

“The sky cowboy is on his way!”

Rescue Red continued his climb until he heard screeching metal above him. “Oh no…The elevator cable’s about to break!”

The cable broke and the elevator began plummeting past him.

Rescue Red leaned towards the wall of the shaft, allowing the elevator to speed past him. Not a second later, using his feet to push off the wall, Rescue Red dropped onto the top of the elevator as it continued his fall.

He hopped in, grabbed the two injured, and used his rope to swing out just a second before the elevator crashed on the ground.

Rescue dangled in the shaft while carrying the two civilians. He climbed up to the second floor and dropped them off there as fiery walls grew closer towards them.

“Rescue Bird!” Carter called as the bird crashed through a window and into his hand. He detached a small tool from the bird that emitted a fire retardant gas he used to clear a path to the nearest window. He ran over to the window while carrying the civilians and jumped through it, shattering the glass. He landed on the ground as Dana, Rescue Pink, ran over to him and began checking the injured.

Kelsey, Joel, and Chad all joined Carter on the ground as the Mariner Bay Fire Department worked to control the fire.

“That’s everybody,” Joel said.

Carter nodded. “Good.”

This had been the sixth fire that day and Carter had a nervous feeling that something weird was going on.

A pair of dark beady eyes watched the Rangers through a pair of lenses. Everything was going according to plan so far. The real fun was about to begin.

Drilax IV

Covered in his silver Ranger armor, Zhane blasted through the skies while riding his Galaxy Glider.

He flipped forward off of his board and landed in a crouched position on the ground below, his Super Silverizer appearing with a flash of golden light around his right arm.

Astro Silver aimed the blaster forward towards a group of the black bone armored creatures. The soldiers hissed as they charged forward towards the Rangers.

“How many of you creeps are there?” Astro Silver said as he opened fire, spraying rapid-fire lances of golden energy that pierced through their flesh and shattered through their bone.

The remains of the torn apart soldiers started to expand and regenerate. The destroyed creatures doubled, creating twice as many enemies for Astro Silver to deal with.

“My fault for asking,” he said as he switched his weapon to blade mode.

Tommy sat in his wide ornate living room while reading a book called “Finding your Inner Chi.”

The living room was lined with redwood paneling and several bookshelves. A skylight overhead gave view to the stars and moon above. Since his home was just outside the city, the view was much clearer and untainted by artificial illumination.

A silver blaze cut through the sky overhead as Tommy set his book down to look. He wrinkled his brow with concern as the comet intensified and streaked straight towards his skylight.

Tommy shook his head as he set down the book and stood up from his chair. “This is why I should never complain about it being too quiet…”

The comet zoomed closer and shattered through the skylight in a ball of fire as Tommy stepped back and assumed a fighting stance.

The flames started to dissipate, and Tommy relaxed his stance when he saw who is intruder was.

“Zhane!” Tommy shouted with concern as he ran to his friend. Zhane’s galaxy glider was lodged through a nearby bookshelf and wall. His visor was cracked and several gashed surrounding his armor.

“Sorry,” Zhane winced as he tried to sit up. “Looks like I owe you a new bookshelf…”

Tommy placed a hand on Zhane’s shoulder to keep him from moving. “Don’t try to sit up. What happened?”

Zhane shook his head. “We’re not sure…what they are. They have Andros. You can’t kill them. They just multiply…Once they’ve killed, they absorb the body into their army…They’re like a virus…”

Tommy nodded. “Okay, Zhane. Now, let’s get you some help.”

Silver Hills, California

The Silver Guardian command jeep was parked along a road just outside the city as Wes stood, leaning on the driver side door and staring into the sky. Eric was sitting inside the vehicle’s passenger side.

Wes shook his head. “It didn’t look like a comet.”

“I will not star gaze with you,” Eric said from inside the jeep.

Wes adjusted his red cap as he followed the silver streak the comet had left behind. “Think it could be something-”

A blur of orange and yellow motion suddenly slammed against Wes and tossed him to the ground. The blur arced around and slammed against the jeep, tipping the vehicle to its side as it screeched and slid across the street.

Eric hopped out of the jeep and ran over to Wes. The two guardians stood back to back in fighting stances, waiting for their assailant to appear.

“Looks like trouble,” Wes said.

“Ya think?” Eric said sarcastically.

The creature came to a halt and leaned against the jeep with its arms crossed, staring at the two rangers with a villainous grin.

“Do you two boys want to play?” the creature asked mockingly.

“Who are you?” Wes asked firmly.

“You don’t know me? I’m hurt,” the monster said sarcastically as he extended his sword.

Eric narrowed his eyes. “You will be hurt in a second…”

He readied his Quantum Controller as Wes readied his Chrono Morpher.

“Time for, Time Force!” Wes shouted as he slapped his wrist morpher’s activation panel. Lines of code surrounded him as his armor flashed to life in a burst of red energy, morphing him into Time Red.

“Quantum Power!” Eric shouted into his wrist morpher. He tossed his cap into the air as fiery energy swirled around him, morphing him into the Quantum Ranger.

The creature flashed a blood-thirsty grin at the two Rangers.

“Excellent,” he said as he dashed forward in a blur of motion. The villain’s blade sparked across the Rangers’ armor faster than their eyes could follow.

Blue Bay Harbor, California

Shane and Hunter raced each other along the streets, their roller-blades cutting across pavement. As they zoomed around corners and leapt down stairwells.

Shane passed Hunter and looked over his shoulder at the thunder ranger, a cocky grin spread across his face. “Try to keep up…”

A six-tone beep sounded on Shane’s left wrist.

“Oh man,” he said as he looked down at the red watch/communicator he wore. Tommy had given him the communicator after the battle on Mirinoi.

The tone distracted Shane, and he tripped over a curb, landing face first and sliding across the ground.

Hunter laughed as he skid to a halt near Shane and extended his hand to help him up. “You were saying? Man, you really need to watch where you’re going.”

“Right, right,” Shane said as he rose to his feet, his left hand grasping the communicator he wore on his right wrist. “Listen, I have to take off. I’ll catch you at ops later.”

Shane skated off into the distance before Hunter could ask Shane what was up. The thunder ranger narrowed his brow as he watched his friend skate off. Shane was hiding something, and Hunter was going to find out what.

Hunter placed both hands in front of him, then whipped his right hand down towards the ground, creating a puff of smoke. Hunter streaked towards Shane in a blur of motion.

***

The Megaship de-cloaked within the boundaries of the park just as Shane arrived. He swung his roller blades over his shoulder and walked towards the boarding ramp as it lowered to the ground.

TJ peeked his head down from above the ramp.

“You’re the last one here,” the turbo ranger said. “We have to hurry.”

“Don’t we always?” Shane said as he ascended the ramp.

***

Shane and TJ sat around the main command table along with Jason, Aurico, Leo, and Cole. Tommy stood nearby, his arms crossed behind his back.

Shane noticed the head count seemed to be a few short. “I thought I was the last one here?”

Tommy nodded. “You are. Carter and Lightspeed are busy with an outbreak of fires in Mariner Bay, so he’s going to sit this one out. We can’t get a hold of Wes or Eric.”

“What about that Andron dude?” Shane asked.

“Andros,” TJ corrected. “He’s why we’re here.”

Tommy nodded as he activated the holo-screen in the center of the table. “Andros and Zhane, the Silver Ranger, were on Drilax Four when they were attacked by a group of soldiers. From what Zhane told me, these creatures couldn’t be destroyed.”

“We heard about them on Mirinoi,” Leo said as he leaned forward. “You could blow one apart, and a dozen more would grow from what’s left.”

“So how do we fight them?” Jason asked as he leaned back in his chair.

“We don’t know yet,” Tommy said. “But one thing’s for sure…we’re going to find out.”

1) follow continuity as best as you can.
2) dont explain how Tommy will become black dino thunder ranger.
3) dont kill any rangers.
4) no giving the Phantom an identity

The creature swung its blade down towards Time Red’s head. The Ranger used his left Chrono Saber to block the blow, then leapt upward, spinning while thrashing his right blade across the villain’s chest.

The creature turned and glared at Time Red while firing a wave of energy darts from his forehead. The darts exploded against the Ranger while in midair, and sent Time Red crashing against a nearby wall, creating a crater in the concrete.

Quantum Ranger charged towards the villain and spun forward while swinging his blade horizontally. The villain parried the blow and energized his saber before slashing it diagonally across the Ranger’s chest in a streak of orange/yellow light. The creature followed through with an upward swing that sparked across Quantum Ranger’s armor and sent him flipping backwards.

“You two are really bad at this,” the villain said as he aimed his blade at the fallen Quantum Ranger’s throat.

***

Mariner Bay

Rescue Red stood outside a blazing building while Rescue Green and Rescue Blue used their new zords to control the blaze. Capt. Mitchell was speaking over the Ranger’s helmet comm line.

“These fires are forming some kind of pattern,” Capt Mitchell said.

Rescue Red had his hand on the right side of his helmet. “What kind of pattern?”

“It seems to be some kind of a six pointed star,” Mitchell said. “We’re running it through the database now.”

“We’ll be on the lookout for anything suspicious,” Rescue Red said. “Carter out.”

Rescue Red switched his comm line over to Rescue Green’s frequency. “Joel, I need you to do an air-sweep. See if you can spot what’s causing these fires.”

“I’m on it,” Rescue Green said.

Rescue Red surveyed the streets as Rescue Pink tended to a few wounded behind him. His communicator suddenly chimed.

“I’ve got something,” Rescue Green said. “In the building to your left. Top floor. Not sure what it is, but it sure doesn’t belong.”

“I’m on it,” Rescue Red said as he ran towards the five-story building.

***

Rescue Red entered the abandoned and worn down top floor of the building as he looked around the room, his visor scanning for any anomalies. His visor picked up an energy signature coming from the other side of the wall in front of him.

Before the Ranger could act, dozens of dark winged figures sprang into the room. Rescue Red recognized them too well. They were Imps.

“It can’t be,” Rescue Red said as the soldiers attacked.

The Ranger outer blocked a soldier’s blow, then slammed an uppercut against that soldier’s chest. He followed with a knifehand blow against the Imp’s back, sending the soldier crashing to the ground.

Another Imp came at Rescue Red from his side. The Ranger low blocked a blow, then swung a backfist across that soldier’s face.

The Ranger pulled out his Rescue Blaster and turned to his right, firing lances of red energy that cut through a group of Imps.

He held his weapon at the ready as he moved out around a corner. He turned the corner and aimed forward, firing at another group of Imps before they could attack.

A large bug suddenly flew through the hall from where the energy signature had originated from.

“What the-” Rescue Red said as he dodged the bug and it sped away as fast as it wings could propel it. It wasn’t fast enough.

Rescue Red turned and blasted the bug with a single energy pulse. The bug landed against the ground and reverted into a humanoid form.

“Jinxer!” Rescue Red shouted as he ran over to the demon.

Jinxer rose to his feet as he started to cower backwards. “No, no, no…”

Rescue Red lifted the demon and slammed him against a wall. “What are you doing here?”

Jinxer shook his head, visibly frightened by the Ranger. “Ju-, ju-, just passing by?”

“Wrong answer,” Rescue Red said as he threw Jinxer backwards. The demon went skidding across the ground as the Ranger aimed his sidearm. “You’re going straight back to the Shadow World.”

“No, no…” Jinxer said as he rose to his feet. “I…he used me. I survived your final attack against Queen Bansheera. I hid. But he found me...”

“Who found you?” Rescue Red asked as he took a step forward.

“I don’t know his name,” Jinxer said. “He-, he-, he tried to take over this place before my time. He’s in Silver Hills now…”

“What is he having you do here?” Rescue Red asked.

“A spell,” Jinxer said.

A group of Imps charged around a corner as Rescue Red turned his head to face them. Jinxer drew a card and tossed it towards the Ranger. It exploded against his chest with a tremendous display of power and sent him crashing off his feet.

When Rescue Red rose to his feet, Jinxer was gone.

***

Silver Hills

Quantum Ranger rolled to his side and fired several rounds from his Quantum Defender. The blasts struck against the creature’s chest and pushed him back as the Ranger rose to his feet.

“You were saying,” Quantum Ranger said as he switched his weapon to blade mode.

Time Red charged forward while adding attachments to his Chrono Saber to form a rifle.

“Electro Booster!” he shouted as he fired several pulses of golden energy that exploded against the villain.

The creature leapt backwards while extending his left arm and fired jagged bursts of orange energy that streamed around the Rangers’ armor as if alive. The tendrils exploded, sending sparks exploding across their armor as the two Rangers were thrown backwards.

The two Rangers slowly rose to their knees as the villain charged forward in a blur of energy, streaking back and forth across them and thrashing across their armor.

The planet Drilax IV

Tommy, Jason, TJ, Aurico, Leo, Cole, and Shane walked across the vast desert of the barren world, searching for any sign as to the whereabouts of Andros.

Aurico had a pack strapped around his back that would provide hydration when needed.

TJ held a portable scanner he was familiar with from his time spent as the blue Astro ranger.

“I’m not picking up anything,” he said as he shook his head. “It’s all quiet.”

“There’s got to be something,” Tommy said as he looked out across the horizon. “Zhane said this place was swarming with those bone-plated clowns before he left.”

“Uh, guys…” Shane said as he looked up into the sky and narrowed his eyes with concern. The others didn’t seem to hear him.

“Maybe they have sought shelter elsewhere,” Aurico said.

“Guys…” Shane said again.

“We could spread out,” Jason said. “We’d cover more ground that way.”

“Hey,” Shane said more firmly. “Old dudes…”

That got their attention.

“I don’t think we have to worry about finding them,” he said as he looked towards the air. “They’ve found us.”

A cloud of winged soldiers descended from the air and swooped down towards the rangers.

“Back to the Megaship,” Tommy said as he readied his Zeonizers, watching as the swarm came closer to them.

Half of the black bone-plated soldiers landed and charged forward towards the rangers on foot, while the other half continued to move forward through the air.

Tommy and Jason ran forward towards the swarm.

“Zeo Ranger V, Red!” Tommy shouted as he connected his two braces, triggering an energy cascade that enveloped his body, morphing him into Zeo Red.

“Tyrannosaurus!” Jason shouted as he extended his buckler forward. His Power Coin, recreated by Ninjor during the Countdown to Destruction, flashed with energy as his armor appeared, morphing him into Tyranno Ranger.

Zeo Red leapt through the air with a flying sidekick that slammed against a creature’s chest. The Ranger jump round kicked another soldier, then reverse hook kicked that creature across the head. Zeo Red skipped to his right to slam a sidekick against another soldier’s face.

Tyranno Ranger armed his Blade Blaster in dagger mode and moved forward. He jump kicked a soldier in the face, then brought his weapon down diagonally across that creature’s chest. The soldier split in two, and each half quickly formed a separate soldier.

“Not good,” Tyranno Ranger said as roundhoused the nearest soldier across the head.

The aerial creatures swooped down towards the other rangers as they fell back and prepared to morph.

Cole flipped open his Growl Phone. “Wild Ac-”

A soldier slammed into him before he could morph and tackled him to the ground while sliding forward. Cole winced as the ground cut through his shirt and across his back.

A group of the ground soldiers surrounded TJ as he tried to fight them off. He reverse sidekicked a soldier in the chest, but that creature grabbed his leg and swung him off the ground in circles.

Aurico activated his concealed wrist morpher as the swarm swooped towards him through the air.

“Red Aquitar Ranger Power!” he shouted as a wave of red energy flowed across his body, morphing him into Aquitar Red.

The Ranger leapt forward, somersaulting over an air-born soldier while slicing off its wings with his saber. Before he could complete the aerial maneuver, a trio of soldiers crashed into him and tackled him against the ground.

Shane stood his ground as a group of creatures sped towards him, cutting through the air like bullets.

“Give it your best shot,” he said as he narrowed his eyes at the cloud of opponents charging towards him.

A blur of motion grabbed hold of Shane and pushed him out of the way as the swarm struck through the empty space where he had stood.

“What the-” Shane looked to his rescuer. It was Hunter. “Man, what are you doing here? How did you…what are you doing here?”

“Didn’t want to disappoint the fans,” Hunter said as he assumed a fighting stance. Shane stood back-to-back with his teammate as the swarm started to circle around them. “So…when were you going to tell me about this little gentlemen’s club of yours?”

“Kind of exclusive,” Shane said as he readied his wind morpher. “What do you say we talk about this later.”

“Agreed,” Hunter said as he armed his thunder morpher.

“Ninja Storm-” Shane said as brought his brace in front of his chest.

“Thunder Storm-” Hunter said as he did the same.

“Ranger form, ha!” they shouted together as they activated their morphers.

Energy bolts crackled around Hunter as his armor formed around him in a burst of power. “Power of Thunder!” he shouted as he morphed into Crimson Thunder.

Wind twirled around Shane in a powerful cyclone of energy as he transformed into his armor. “Power of Air!” he shouted as he morphed into Wind Red.

Doh! Yes, I meant Batlings. They were called Imps in GogoV, so I guess my mind just had a slip up.

I'll fix it in the hard copy online, but I'm too lazy to go through and do it in this post.

Glad you liked the MiB reference.

A group of winged creatures swooped down towards the two Rangers while arming their claws.

“Ninja Air Assault!” Wind Red shouted as he leapt up and sprinted across the air. He swung his saber through a series of arcs, thrashing through the creatures’ flesh and bone.

One of the creature hissed while flying forward and tackling against Wind Red, slamming its shoulder’s against the Ranger’s chest and knocking him from the air.

“Thunder Staff!” Crimson Thunder shouted while twirling his weapon, stepping back as a group of creatures swarmed towards him.

He leapt straight up into the air, passing over the creatures. Crimson Thunder Angled his descent and flipped downwards while thrashing his staff through a pair of creatures.

Crimson Thunder landed in a crouched position and armed his Thunder Blaster, but a creature swooped down and knocked the weapon from Crimson Thunder’s hand. Another trio of soldiers swooped in and tackled against the Ranger while clawing at his armor.

Mariner Bay

Rescue Red tore through the streets on his Rescue Cycle. He was zeroing in on the center of the star formation the outbreak of fires was creating across the city. The other Rescue Rangers were doing their best to keep the blaze under control.

Rescue Red opened his eyes wide when he made it to the center of the star formation. The clouds above turned black and swirling around as bits of fiery dust floated through the air. The ground was boiling and bubbling beneath the clouds, and a twisted, spiked tower was slowly extended from the earth.

Rescue Red placed his hand on the right side of his helmet, activating his communicator. “This is Carter. There’s a situation-” He stopped when he realized there was nothing but static.

A dark-red creature swooped down from the skies. It was a scaled dragon, alive, and twice as big as a Megazord. The dragon roared, its voice shattering the glass of every building nearby.
