Ultimate Turbo Rangers: Chapter Two
Oh Dappu, Where art thou
--Written by Sparky Ranger--
Luke, Carlos, Cassie, Tanya, and Tyler were working at the Pegasus Garage, owned by Luke's father.
Luke and Carlos were working on fixing the door on a car they had brought in a couple of days before. Carlos knocked the last bolt into place on the hinges and looked up to Luke.
Luke read the feelings in Carlos' face easily. "Quite a rush wasn't it?"
Carlos whistled. "Oh yeah! Little alien dude lands at the garage, tells us we're going to be super heroes? I mean that's…well…totally rushy!"
Luke couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah, but what happened to our Axel Changers?" Tanya asked from the far side of the room. "Or have I just lost mine? Because I can't find it anymore."
"Mine's gone too!" exclaimed Tyler, only really looking for the first time since the day before, when they had fought off Divatox's Wampa soldiers.
"Well if Dagu would show up again…" started Carlos. "…Maybe we could ask him, but he's not had the decency to show his face since we finished off Divatox's forces."
"His name's Dappu," Cassie said, almost defensively. "And maybe he just has other things to do with his time."
"Yeah, well it'd still be nice to know what it was all about, don't you think?" Tyler asked.
***
"RYGARG!" Divatox bellowed, the pipes of her ship's bridge rattling with the vibrations of her voice.
"Yes my Mistress," Rygarg replied as he entered through the sliding doors at the back of the room.
"I want to know why my Wampa were defeated yesterday," the Borzock pirate demanded.
"It would appear it was the fault of the Turbo Rangers," Rygarg suggested.
"I know that!" Divatox blasted, hitting Rygarg upside the back of his head. "But there's not meant to be any Rangers on this backwater planet! It's not allowed!”
"Do not worry, Mistress," Rygarg comforted. "I will send down the Wampa immediately. Those kids can't get that lucky…twice."
***
The teens heard a clanking noise coming from outside the garage. Exchanging glances, they all got up from what they were doing.
"Wampa?" Cassie asked.
"Sounds like," Tyler agreed, making a dash for the door. "Let's go!"
"Wait!" Luke called. He grabbed a wrench out of the toolbox. The others flashed him funny looks. "What?" he asked defensively. "If we're going out there, we're going out there to win. Now get a weapon if you want to fight."
The other teens grabbed various mechanic tools and followed their boss's son out.
***
Sure enough, when they left the garage a group of robotic Wampa soldiers was waiting for them.
"Dappu, if you're going to turn up, now would be a good time," Carlos whispered so only Tanya could hear him.
"Alright metalheads," Luke challenged, waving his wrench in front of him. "Who wants to go first?"
The others watched as their friend rushed the metallic monsters and started hitting them with his wrench. A few quick glances exchanged, and the four of them joined Luke.
Tanya hit one of the Wampa with a length of exhaust pipe she had found on the floor, managing to hold it back but a little more.
Luke managed to hit one of the creatures around the head with his wrench before being knocked to the ground.
Cassie swung wildly with a steering wheel that had been lying at the garage side since goodness only knew when.
Carlos ran in and lunged with a length of metal piping he had found, being pushed aside immediately.
Tyler went at a creature with a hammer, but found that it had minimal effect on the soldier’s metallic skull.
"This doesn't look good!" Tyler called to the others.
"We're in trouble if something doesn't happen soon," Cassie agreed as she ducked and weaved away from the Wampa's attacks.
"You're telling me," Luke said incredulously as he was knocked to the ground.
A Wampa stood on Luke’s left hand, preventing him from moving. The pain was excruciating, but he knew if he didn't move soon he took the risk of not being able to move at all. He twisted and turned with all his might, trying to free his hand. A red light suddenly flashed on his wrist as his morpher appeared.
Luke’s mouth dropped open for a second in shock. Then, regaining his senses he reached into his back pocket with his free right hand and pulled out his injector key.
"Let's ride…" he said menacingly. "Axel Power!" he called as he inserted the key into his brace. Red armor shimmered into existence around him with a burst of energy. He lifted his left hand up, easily flipping the Wampa off of him.
"Alright!" called out Tanya. "You changed!"
"Yeah!" Turbo Red called back, blocking an attack from one Wampa and striking another down. "You just sort of have to flick your wrist, I think, to make the brace appear." He imitated the flicking he had done when trying to free his hand.
"Alright guys, let's do it!" Tyler said as the others regrouped around him.
"Axel Power!" The four performed a brief series of movements with their hands before inserting their keys into the braces. Armor shimmered around them before sealing with flashes of light.
Turbo Red jumped back to take his place at the front of the group.
"Hyper Task Force…" he called.
"Turbo Rangers!" the five called in unison, assuming combat stances. The team of Wampa gathered themselves together and faced the Rangers; their cold metallic faces remaining emotionless.
"Alright guys, let's do it!" Turbo Red shouted, leading the charge towards the enemy.
With their armor activated, the Rangers’ need for weapons was removed. Their fists became more powerful than they could ever have imagined.
Turbo Red ran in to a group of three Wampa and executed a leg sweep to the creatures, knocking them to the floor.
Turbo Blue, Tyler, forward flipped towards a pair before vaulting over one, kicking it in the back and pushing off to land a double punch to the face of another one.
Turbo Yellow, Tanya, grabbed the arm of one would-be attacker before twisting it, flipping the creature around and applying a finishing blow to its chest.
Turbo Pink, Cassie, pulled her Auto Blaster from its belt and fired off shots in quick succession, taking out another two Wampa warriors.
Turbo Green, Carlos, managed to land two high kicks to the face of one creature before it hit the ground, before flipping another over his shoulder onto the ground.
The remaining Wampa gathered themselves up and ran away from the Rangers. Their speed increased to such a point where they seemingly vanished.
"Alright!" called out Turbo Pink as she jumped up and down. "We did it!"
***
"Rygarg dearest…" Divatox beckoned in her most motherly tone. "Do you remember not so long ago you told me the Wampa would destroy those rangers?"
"Yes mistress," Rygarg cautiously replied.
"Then would you like to explain to me…" Divatox continued before raising her voice, "Why they were so USELESS!?"
"I don't understand it myself mistress," Rygarg groveled. "However, I do have a suggestion…we could send Griller down. He should have those Rangers begging for mercy."
"Excellent idea, Rygarg. You may not be as stupid as you look," Divatox complimented.
Rygarg grinned, causing Divatox to doubt what she had said.
***
The Turbo Rangers stood in the street, the defeated bodies of the Wampa they had just fought had dematerialized.
"Looks like we did it again," Red Racer said quietly.
"Indeed you did, Turbo Rangers," a voice said from behind the group. They spun around to see Dappu there.
"Dappu!" Turbo Yellow cried. "We were so worried about you!"
Blue Racer glanced Green Racer. Despite their helmets blocking their faces from view, the meaning was obvious: they were both trying to recall saying they were worried about the little alien.
"My apologies, sentai. I felt you needed to fight this battle alone," the creature explained. "You still did not trust in your abilities. Now you do. Therefore, I will be available when you need me."
"Gee, thanks," Red Racer said sarcastically. "We nearly got our butts kicked out there, and now you show up!"
"As I said, Rangers…apologies from myself and my forefathers," repeated the little alien. "However, I was also working during my absence from you."
"Working?" Yellow Racer asked. "Working on what?"
With her final words, the alien teleported away.
"Congratulations," mocked Green Racer. "You scared the midget away."
"You flatter yourself, Green Ranger," came a mocking voice from behind the group
They spun to face the direction of the sounds. Behind them stood a monster, bigger than anything that they had fought before. He appeared to be part organic and part flamethrower of some sort.
"If you want a job done, don't send Wampa to do it!" the monster shoted.
"What the heck is that?" Yellow Racer asked.
"I'm Griller!" announced the monster as it leveled its right arm flamethrower at the rangers. He fired a gout of flame at the group. "And here's why!"
"Wow! Hot stuff," Red Racer called out as he shielded his face from the heat. "This is too much."
"You're right!" Turbo Green agreed as he jumped into the air. "Auto Blaster!" Bolts of green energy flew downwards and hit the enemy dead in what he could only assume passed for a chest.
"Haha! It will take more than that to destroy me!" laughed the monster.
"Not a problem," Turbo Red admitted as he and the other Rangers joined Green Racer's side. "We have five times more of that! Fire!"
The five rangers fired their Auto Blasters at once, but the monster still appeared unfazed.
"Man!" Turbo Yellow exclaimed. "This is not good."
"True," Pink Racer agreed. "Where's Dappu when you need him?"
Her wrist beeped.
"Huh?" Blue Racer asked. "It's your morpher. Answer it."
Turbo Pink looked at her wrist for a moment before picking out a button and trying it. Dappu's voice answered it.
"Sentai!” Dappu called. “Raise your right arms in the air."
The team did as they were asked and raised their arms. An arsenal of weaponry in their hands, the likes of which they had never seen.
"Alright!" called out Red Racer. "Nice one, Dappu! Lightning Foil!"
"Star Starters!" called Turbo Yellow.
"Bumper Bow!" called Pink Racer
.
"Racer Cannon!" shouted Turbo Green.
"Pistols!" called Blue Racer.
Racer Red turned his head to face Turbo Blue. "Pistols? You couldn't think of anything else?"
"Hey, I was always told by my teachers my imagination wasn't brilliant. I'll work on a better name," he started. "In fact…"
"Umm, excuse me!” Griller shouted. “Trying to be terrifying over here!"
Turbo Red spun around to face the monster again. "Don't think we've forgotten you. We're just getting ready to kick your butt properly!"
"Big words from a little species," Griller threatened.
"That's it," Blue Racer cried out. "I've had enough of you. Hub Blasters, Fire!"
Bolts of blue energy fired at the enemy, knocking him to the ground.
"Ha! It'll take more than that to get rid of me, Blue Ranger," Griller mocked as he got back to his feet.
"Alright guys…let's put them together!" Red Racer called out. He threw his weapon into the air. "Lightning Foil!"
"Star Starters!"
"Bumper Bow!"
"Hub Blasters!"
"Racer Cannon!"
The five weapons merged into one on a wheeled platform.
"Nova RAM!" the five Rangers shouted. "Fire!"
Lances of energy sprouted out from the weapon, curving their way towards Griller, hitting him dead center in the chest.
"That..." Griller struggled, "could count as more..."
The monster fell backwards before exploding.
"Alright!" Blue Racer shouted.
"Hyper Task Force, power down," commanded a voice from behind them as their armor shimmered out of existence. The five turned to see Dappu standing behind them.
***
Back at Pegasus Garage, the group stood around the car that they had been working on the day they met Dappu.
"Once again, I apologize for my absence Turbo Rangers," Dappu announced apologetically. "However, I have had other things to work on during this time. Your weapons for example."
"For example?" Tanya asked "What else then?"
"This," Dappu said, inserting a key into the wall. The shimmering portal appeared once again. The six stepped inside.
"Wow..." Cassie murmured.
The room had been reconfigured since they last stepped inside it. In the center was a circular area filled with controls and viewing panels. Behind this was a rack holding the weapons that the rangers had just finished using to defeat the monster, Griller.
"This will be the Turbo armory," Dappu announced. "As you can see, your weapons are stored here, as will any other equipment that you may acquire as time goes on."
***
“Damn them!” Divatox cursed up on her sub-craft. “That’s it…” she promised, turning to face the ranks of Piranatrons behind her. “…no more Miss Nice Pirate.”
