A new galactic evil emerges, seeking five powerful objects of untold mystery and power.
In the year 4010 a new team of Rangers arises in an era without heroes.....
Power Rangers: Starlancer
Part One of the Fading Stars Cycle
........................................................................... ..............................
"The New Directive" Part One
Earth, Terra, Third rock from the Sun. Home. A blue world unlike any in the universe.
(Our view zooms threw countless stars into our own solar system, then finally centers on the third planet.)
Earth is the traditional homeworld of the Human Race, but it is no longer mankind's only home.
It is the year 4550. Mankind has spread threwout the galaxy. Colonies abound on many worlds.
During Earth's first galactic expedition to space, the famed Terra Venture mission, legends abounded of heros, heroes called Power Rangers. These heroes protected the mission from disaster.
Peace has thrived since then on Earth and beyond. And it seems not only has mankind no further need for heroes, but now has relegated them to museum items ignored by most passerbys.
Planet Alegerious.......
The landscape is a dry, sahara-like desert, the planet's three suns blaze overhead. Only one figure is seen moving.
The man is running towards us, away from something fast approaching.
Sweat streams down her forhead, and we realize the man is actually a woman. And she is carrying something. A box, a golden box.
Behind her, we hear the sound of hoofbeats, and into our view comes a black horselike creature with skeletal armor, and an equally skeletal warrior baring long ram's horns riding it.
The rider is not alone, four other similar riders flank him on both sides. All are intent on one thing, retriving the mysteryious box from the woman they pursue.
Suddenly a laser blast slams the lead rider, knocking him off his horse.
Our view suddenly turns to the direction the blast came from, and we see a warrior clad in red armor, with a black star shaped visor, and a large white star on the armor's chestplate.
The skeletal riders back off, and then retreat, obviously fearing whoever is waring the red armor.
"Thankyou, whoever you are." The woman says to the red warrior.
"Do not thank me, thank my emplorer" The Red warrior says absent mindedly.
"Count Nefarious' rider will be back, in larger amounts, we should find shelter." The women says.
"I am to deliver you and the box you carry to the Starlight Temple on Marinus, follow me" The Red Warrior said.
"Of coarse" The woman replyed.
Our view then zooms out, until we see the red warrior and the women walking over the desert towards a starship nearby.
The scene changes to outer space, in orbit around the desert world below. We see the ship from before flying up out of the planet's atmosphere.
"Master, the Bounty Hunter is escaping with the Starlancer Box." A large, black, golem-like creature with a flat head and red eyes says.
Our view turns to another in the same room, a sinister looking man in his mid-twenties, with black hair, white skin, a thin-black mustache, and black armor, complete with a black cape.
"I know fool. I let them get away. We will follow them to the Starlight temple's location itself, and then I will forefill my destiny. So swears COUNT NEFARIOUS"
(Themesong)
Space, a place some used to call the final frontier. Now its just another place to make money in humanity's great economic system known as capitalism.
We see a man in a high-tech spacesuit, torch in hand, applying finishing touches to the hull of a spaceship.
Suddenly a shudder is felt by the man, as the entire ship shakes..
Looking around, the man sees what caused the shudder..
Not far away, the repair station the ship the man is currently working on is station at explodes. And the culprit is nearby. A group of fighter craft resembling flying horned skulls passes by, readying to attack the other spacecraft nearby.
The man's heart pounds, adrenaline rushing. Then as he is about to pass out, he sees the fighter craft head in his direction. When the eyes of the fighter craft begin glowing red, the man realizes his end is near......
Suddenly our view is replaced with static. We zoom out to see a briefing room full of millitary personal.
The aged man, waring the customary silver uniform of United Space Defense, addresses the crowd.
"That is all we know about these mysteryious invaders. Now I realize that this is, for most of you anyway, a first mission. So listen closely." The aged man said
Cadet Jarem was excited, if alittle afraid. He had heard stories of space battles growing up, mostly against space pirates. It was his dream to go into space. But this latest scene the General of Space forces played back from an incident that happened little over one hour prior, shook his confidence.
In the stories he heard as a kid, the Space Forces always defeated the pirates. Good always triumphed. But this wasn't a story it was real, and Good didn't always win. Jarem realized with a shudder, that he could even die out there.
Jarem was in the front row of the assembly. He, like everyone in the room, wore a standard issue uniform. His closely combed blond hair stood out sharply with the majority of the room, who had brown or black hair.
"Our mission is as follows, squad A and D will defend the capital starships from enemy fire. Squads B and C will engage at will any enemy starfighters. Squad E will remain in orbit as a last line of defense. The Enemy is heading in this direction, it will take them awile to cross to the other side of Marinoi, but when they do, I want everyone of you prepared. Dismissed"
After the usual hustle and bustle following the end of the briefing, Jarem quickly followed his fellow Squad B members to the Defender's hangar bay. The Defender was one of Marinoi's defensive space cruisers. Jarem had hoped to be assigned to the Invincible, the pride of the Defense Fleet. But he knew only the best pilots hoped to fly out from that ship.
Lowering himself into his Fighter's cockpit, Jarem strapped on his helmut, and his restraints, and ordered the Starfighter's cockpit down.
Jarem's chest pounded, slowly at first, then heavily when the hangar bay doors opened. This was it, Jarem was about to fly into his first real mission.
Thrusters caused Jarem's Quasar Attack Starfighter to streak ahead and zoom out the hangar into the vacuum of space.
No more fear gripped Jarem's heart. Know only his training remained.
His squadron flew in a tight V formation, accompanyed by squad C nearby. The starfighters were all painted the same silver as Jarem's uniform, their aerodynamic, winglike shapes reflecting the sunlight coming from the other side of Marinoi.
Thinking turned to action when, from the far side of Marinoi's second moon, the enemy arrived.
A large, black, almost grenade-like shaped capital starship could be seen, along with countless black dots streaking away from it.
"B-2, do you see that?" Jarem asked his left wingman.
"Affirmative B3, looks like a capital starship and space debris" B-2 said
"Negative B2, I'm reading, 30, forty, no fifthy enemy craft heading towards us. As for the capital starship, wait, no this can't be right." Jarem said, staring in disbelief at the battle statistics being desplayed on his on-board computer
"I don't Copy" B-2 said
"Flight Leader, that capital starship is over three miles across." Jarem said
"I see it B-3, I'll relay the data to mission command, standby for orders."
But time was something they did not have, when the fifthy enemy craft arrived, laser beams tearing up B-2 and B-1, the Squad B flight-leader.
Jarem, and the remainder of Squad-B, along with Squad-C, took evasive action, each assigning one of the skull-shaped enemy craft as a indivual target.
The Defender, along with its own two protective squads, entered the fray, their response to the "Flying Skulls" was a series of no-nonsense laser blasts. The nearby Capital Starships, the Couragious, the Lionheart and the Marinoi's Honor, launched their own Starfighter squadrons, all eight of them. Normal, squads F, G and H would be in the battle, but the Defender's remaining fighters were still undergoing repairs from a recent Pirate schirmish.
Jarem narrowly piloted his craft under the Defender, and blasted a Skullfighter to scrap.
"B-3, do you copy, an enemy's hot on your tail." B-4 said
"I Copy, taking evasive action" Jarem said, executing a 180 degree turn, hoping it would be enough to shake the Skull behind him off.
Nearby......
"Master, the battle is proceding well" The black creature said
Count Nefarious gazed out of the bridge's window.
He enjoyed watching starfighter dogfights. Battle was Count Nefarious' sole form of entertainment. That, and making his enemies suffer.
"As much as I enjoy watching my Skullfighters wipe the floor with the Space Defense Force, we still do have a schedule to keep Wormwood." Count Nefarious said.
"I'll order the Skullfighters to stop playing with the humans then." Wormwood said
"Once Marinoi's out of the way, the nearby planet Gearac, and the Starlight Crystals inside the planet's temple, will both fall quickly sir" A goblin-like creature near Count Nefarious said.
"Right you are Dremloc." Count Nefarious said.
Back at the battle......
The pattern of the Skulls was changing. No longer were they engaging individual fights, but had once again formed into a coherant formation.
They advanced towards Jarem's squadron in masse.
"Get out of the way B-3!" One of Jarem's wingmates screamed.
But it was two late. A blast had slammed the back of Jarem's craft, sending him tumbling out of control.
Jarem tried to scream, but found no sound could penentrate his lipps.
Tumbling out of control, Jarem drifted at high speed away from the battlefield, away from the explosion of the Defender and his fellow wingmates, and away from Marinoi itself.
Grief and Anger welled up in Jarem's chest, and then Jarem fell into mercyful unconsciouness.....
Gearac.......
The Red Warrior's starship entered the earth-like planet's atmosphere, then once it reached the ground, landed near a magnificent white marble temple.
The Red Warrior exited his ship, along with the women.
Gasping, the Red Warrior removed his helmut, reveiling the face of a teenager barely 19 years of age. His black hair was soaked with sweat, obvious from the long period of time he spent wearing a helmut.
"Your only a child" The woman said surprised
"Does it matter, your alive aren't you? I cause you haven't noticed, you aren't much older than I am" The Unmasked Red Warrior said
"I always thought that Karac the Red would be a man. Oh well. Come, my mother is expecting us." The Women said
The two strood into the temple, the women still carrying the Starlight Box.
A woman wearing golden robes greeted the two once they were inside the temple.
"Sarisa, your alright, I'm so glad!" The Golden Robed Women said, embracing Sarisa in a tight hug.
"Mother, I am practically a grown woman!" Sarisa said, annoyed
"Your never too old to be hugged by you mother. I was worried Count Nefarious killed you thats all. Come, we must place the Starlight Crystals in the vault." Sarisa's mother said
"Your lucky" Korac said as the Priestess walked away with the Starlight Box.
"Why would you say that?" Sarisa said
"I never knew my parents" Korac said
A grim silence stretch out after that moment...
"Im sorry, I didn't know" Sarisa said
"No problem, trust me, I've had much more insensitive employers than you and your mother." Korac said
Space.....
Count Nefarious' Grenade-Ship and its SkullFighter escort had long since finished mopping up the fools who opposed them in orbit around Marinoi, and now approached the purplish-blue world of Gearac.
"We have arrived in the Gearac system my lord" Wormwood said
"Excellilent, accompany me and our entire Skulldagger ground forces to the serface Wormwood. Dremloc, your in charge up here, I trust you'll keep things running smoothly while I'm gone?" Count Nefarious said.
"Of coarse master" The diminative Goblin-like creature said.
Jarem awoke with a start. He gazed at his surroundings. By the look of things, he was on temperate forest world. The purplish sky was different from Marinoi's blue, but wasn't unpleasant to look at.
While Jarem may have been untouched, aside from a few bumps and bruises, the ship was another story. The ship's last remaining power had been consumed by finding a nearby, non-warzone planet, and then piloting to and landing on that planet.
"I wonder what dad would think of me now. First combat expierence, and I fly out of the battle and crash on an unknown planet." Jarem said to himself, then groaned as he forced himself out of the pilot's seat and out of the cockpit of his wrecked fighter.
Looking around, Jarem saw a structure nearby, a large white marble cathedral from the look of it.
Hurrying, Jarem started the long walk towards the structure, in hopes of finding shelter.
Then Jarem's stomach droped, as he saw Flying Skulls in the sky. He had been followed....
Nearby...
Count Nefarious teleported into a small clearing in the forest near the Starlight Temple with a swirl of dark colors. Wormwood arrived alongside his master in a flash of black lightning.
teleporting onto the scene, was hundreds of black skinned, featureless warriors, wearing skeletal armor and welding sickles.
Inside the Starlight-Temple....
Korac got a blipp from his wrist computer.
"Computer report" Korac said, somewhat annoyed his conversation with Sarisa was interupted.
"Count Nefarious and his army have touched down nearby outside the Starlight Temple."
"Damnit" Korac said
"We don't have time to evactuate the priests!" Sarisa said, eyes wide in fright.
"I'd worry about yourself girl" A sinister sounding voice said
Stepping into view was a monster seamingly composed of molten rock, with a dragon-like face and wings.
Sarisa stared at the monster without fear. She had ran recently from other monsters.
"Get to safety, I'll hold him off" Korac said, pointing a blaster pistol at the monster.
"Oh please" The monster said, as he was joined by a group of skeletal warriors who had just bashed down the Temple's front door.
Count Nefarious stepped out from behind the monster, a grin frozen on his face.
"You'll never get the Starlight crystals while I'm protecting them Count Nefarious!" Korac said, without fear.
"Your courage is admirable boy, but I fear this isn't a story of heriocs, but cold hard reality" Count Nefarious said, shrugging, and firing twin laser beams from his eyes into Korac, sending him flying aside.
Sarisa stood in shock.
"Ignore the girl, you know why we are here" Count Nefarious said, stepping over Korac's unconsious form.
Nearby...
Jarem ran towards the smoking temple, looking for another entrance besides the front gate.
He saw what he was looking for. On the temple's side was a rock. A powerful enough weapon could in theory blast the rock, allowing passage to the temple.
Gazing down at his side, Jarem saw his standard issue blaster tucked in its holster.
Pulling the gun out, Jarem proceded to blast the annoying boulder to pebbles and then entered the exposed side entrance.
Nearby......
Count Nefarious, with a grin on his face, forced open the door leading to the inner santuam. Not expecting any further resistance, he had ordered the majority of his forces, except for a few Skulldaggers and the monstrious Draken, back to the ship.
On an altar directly in front of him, was the Starlight Box.
"Not another step. I don't know who you are, but your obviously responsible for the deaths of the entire Marinoi defense fleet. Put down any weapons you may have and back up against the wall." Jarem said
Count Nefarious turned with annoyance at the blond haired male human youth to his right, then smiled.
"Look Boy, I'm unarmed" Count Nefarious said, raising his hands, letting lose a series of laser blasts.
Jarem rolled out of the way of the incoming blasts, his training obviously had paid off.
Sarisa's mother entered the chamber, staff in hand.
"So my dear sister, you have finally showed yourself." Count Nefarious said, turning his dark gaze from the shock Jarem.
"I smelled your foul odor when you entered orbit" The priestess said
"It wasn't long ago that you were evil Yari, you should never have betrayed the darkness. You broke Father's heart, he died in grief because of you" Count Nefarious said
"Father didn't give on ounce of spacedust about me Sigmund and you know it" Yari replied
"The name is Count Nefarious. Now hand over the Starlight Crystals before I lose my patience." Count Nefarious said
Jarem was about to pull the trigger on his weapon when the Count's gaze fell on him, and a telekinetic shove knocked his weapon aside.
"Over my dead body" Yari said
"That can be arranged." Count Nefarious said, launching bolts of dark energy towards Yari.
Yari countered with white energy bolts of her own.
The two opposing energies conlided, then stoped, each combatant's beam trying to overpower the others.
"I have gotten far stronger since you left home dear sister, stronger than you could EVER BE" Count Nefarious said, overpowering Yari, and slamming her with both his, and Yari's own beams.
Yari fell to the floor, and Count Nefarious quickly stepped towards the Starlight Box housing the mysteryious Starlight Crystals.
Grasping the box Count Nefarious smiled. After eions of searching, the power of the Starlancers of legend would be his.
Count Nefarious, satisfied, teleported he, and the rest of his army back to the ship.
Sarisa and Korac then ran into the room, glancing curiously at Jarem, then hurried over to Yari's wounded form lying on the ground.
"Mother!" Sarisa said, shaking the prown form of her mother.
"Saris....a. My.....daughter....don't let him win, fight him, or the galaxy will..be destroyed." Yari said weakly
"I will mother" Sarisa said, sobbing.
"But if Count Nefarious already has the crystals" Korac began
"He doesn't have all of them." Yari said, then unfolded her palm, reveiling three star-shaped crystals, one red, one blue and one green.
"What good will three crystals do against somebody with supernatural powers." Jarem said, deciding he was as much a part of what was going on as Korac, Sarisa, and the dying Yari
"They have...more power...than you could imagine...power enough to save the galaxy....to stop my ....brother." Yari said
"What can we do?" Korac said softly
"Take the crystals, they will give you the power to become mystical warriors known as Power Rangers. Only...with their power...will you stand a chance." Yari said
Korac felt instinctively drawn to the red crystal. Sarisa stopped crying, and took the green crystal from her mother. And Jarem, confused as he was, felt obligated to avenge his friends on the Defender, and took the Blue crystal.
"Remember...With...Right...Comes...Might" Yari said, and then went limp....
"MOTHER!" Sarisa said in dispair.
Korac put his hand on Sarisa's shoulder.
"We will avenge her. Nefarious will pay" Korac said
"Are you with us stranger?" Korac asked Jarem
"I'll do whatever I can to help you" Jarem said
Meanwhile.....
Count Nefarious was very pleased. He gazed lovingly at the golden starlight box, then slowly began to open it. When he saw what was inside, a look of horror formed on his face....
Only two of the five crystals had been in the box all along.
Count Nefarious slammed the box onto the ground, then gazed at the hidious purple planet nearby.
"This isn't over dear sister, oh no" Count Nefarious said
