Tokyo, Japan

Kresh led Yuuri through an underground tunnel beneath the subway system of the city. They walked in silence, Yuuri still not comfortable with following her father’s killer, a man she would very much like to see dead on the end of her spear.

Kresh broke the silence as the tunnel started to descend.

“I will need you to think back, Yuuri,” Kresh said. “Think back to almost five years ago, here in Tokyo. You were on a mission, spying on those high-collar businessmen in Tokyo Tower.”

“I remember,” Yuuri said quietly. “It was when I first met Mikoto.”

Kresh nodded. “The alleged Vyram prince.”

Yuuri had been eavesdropping on a conversation while on assignment before being ambushed by Mikoto:

“The Asami Group will never go along with this plan,” Yuuri heard one of the men in the conference room say. “This is madness. Who are we to play God?”

“We are the ones with power in this city,” another man said. “True power. We pull all the strings. We use this country as our game board. We are being given a chance to expand our game.”

“Then let us do so on our terms,” the leader of the Asami Group said, “not by the terms of these fanatics.”

“To do so by our terms would take decades,” a third voice said. “With this new alliance, we could gain a strong foothold in less than five years and be in global control in ten.”

“You don’t give us enough credit,” Asami said. “We don’t need them or their methods.”

“You don’t give them enough credit,” an ice-cold voice said. “They don’t need us, Asami. They chose us. If we refuse their generous offer, we will be nothing but fodder in their eyes. If we join them, we will be leaders of a new world order.”

“What does that have to do with my father?” Yuuri asked.

“Everything,” Kresh explained as they moved further down the path. “It was that day the Vyram gained political and economic control over Japan, convincing all but one of the men assembled to pitch in.”

“Asami…” Yuuri said.

Kresh nodded. “The Vyram used their foothold in Japan to establish networks to other countries. Various factions arose…those more loyal to the Vyram cause of ascending closer to the gods were aligned with Mikoto. Yokoshima and his cells were more interested in crafting a global order to save mankind from itself. Other, pure Vyram, were labeled rogues, not willing to cooperate with those that used genetic modifications. Their skills were born in them, through no scientific explanation.”

“What became of Asami?” Yuuri asked.

Kresh narrowed his eyes. “A group of politicians within the U.N. had held a similar meeting almost 25 years ago. A small group within the U.N., known for less than legal and hardly moral activities, was approached by the Vyram. They all declined…but only because they refused to give in to the cult’s ideas of the gods, pain worship, and other fanatical beliefs. Asami was a part of this original group…as was your father.

“This group formed an organization known as ISIS beneath the eyes of their comrades in the U.N. The goals of ISIS were almost identical to the Vyram: Global domination and enhancement of the human race. ISIS preferred the use of technological devices, which most Vyram viewed as blasphemous.

“This is when a sort of…competition grew in secret between the Vyram and ISIS…A race as to which group would gain global control first, and which methods would first succeed in shaping the future of the race. Both used acts of terror to further their means. Both used political intrigue and subterfuge.

“Your father and Asami decided to play both sides of the fence, so to speak. Your father in particular was quite interested in the biological advancements the Vyram had to offer…”

They came to a rusty metal door at the end of the tunnel that Kresh placed his hand upon.

The door slid open, and the two walked into a dimly lit-room filled with organic pods and other crude shaped devices.

“This was your father’s first lab for the Vyram,” Kresh said as he walked around the room, his eyes narrowed. “He grew fascinated here with their ways. Their gods. Their beliefs. Their biological modifications.

“Your father became fascinated with the idea of crafting a perfect race,” Kresh said as he rolled his hands up into fists. “That’s how I came to be…”

“What?” Yuuri asked as she wrinkled her brow.

“Here in his lab, he took samples of his own DNA and combined them with another woman’s in one of these pods,” Kresh said. “I was not born…I was grown…

“I was transferred to the Alaska facility at the age of nine,” Kresh said. “Raised by the Vyram…crafted into what you see before you. I was released at the age of 18, and I officially joined the ranks of the Vyram.

“Then the second meeting took place,” Kresh continued, “the one you heard. Asami had not been convinced of the Vyram’s ideals as easily as that foolish father of ours. He took a stance at that meeting and sided with ISIS.

“Your father had him killed, feeling his actions had betrayed the Vyram.

“I quickly grew tired of being a pawn. These…enhancements of mine became a curse…a painful one…and to make matters worse, my father had for all purposes abandoned me. He had a knew pet project…you. He was crafting you into his perfect little warrior, wanting you to be a candidate for the ISIS technology so you could mate with Mikoto and bring about the perfect race.”

Yuuri shook her head as she looked around the room. “I don’t…no…I don’t believe a word of it…you’re sick…”

She narrowed her eyes as she stepped forward towards Kresh. “You expect me to believe my father was some…double agent? With the Vyram?”

“No,” Kresh said. “I expect you to believe our father was the personification of all evil.”

Yuuri activated her brace.

“Thunder power, strike!” she shouted as she charged forward, her armor activating around her.

ISIS base, Arizona

Hunter walked besides Ikkari with his hands bound behind his back and two guards walking behind him with their weapons raised. He narrowed his eyes at the leader of ISIS.

“What is it you’re trying to pull, Ikkari?” Hunter asked.

“Same as always, of course,” Ikkari said. “Domination. Power. Unfortunately you and your people are no longer of use to me. I informed Omega Sector of your location so they could dispense with you. After ISIS regroups, we’ll go after them of course, and renew our war with the Vyram. Your failures and losses have set us back considerably.”

“Can’t say I’m disappointed,” Hunter said. “Where are you taking me?”

“Into the main command room,” Ikkari said with an evil gleam in his eye. “I have something I want to show you…”

***

Vince, Blake, and Max were in a cell enclosed with a force field as an ISIS guard stood by outside.

Max was still unconscious with a severe fever and sores breaking out across his body. He was dying.

Vince stood by the force field as he addressed the guard. “Hey…he’s dying. He needs the cure you brought back with us.”

The guard said nothing, only staring ahead.

“Hey!” Vince shouted. “I’m talking to you!”

Vince slammed his fist against the force field, but was met only with a shock for his efforts.

The guard turned towards Vince and laughed. “You little pricks aren’t anything without your armor. No go sit down and shut up, or your friend won’t be the only one going to hell tonight.”

***

In a similar cell, Hayes sat in a cell alone with the girl that had saved Max’s life after an encounter with Shadow Blade. The young woman was in a fetal position, rocking back and forth while mumbling to herself.

Hayes looked to the young woman with sorrow. She had very special gifts that couldn’t be explained by any reasons of science. The only thing known for sure was that her gifts seemed to be pushing her towards insanity.

***

Sattine paced back and forth in her cell along with the other five members of Dragon Violer. They had been less reluctant to cooperate with their superiors once they learned of Eagle Six’s fate.

“We need a plan,” Sattine said as she shook her head and continued pacing. Her hair was strawberry red and long. Her face was freckled and she had light green eyes.

“I’m sure we’re all up for suggestions,” Tristan said from the ground. He was still recovering from injuries, as was Constance who sat besides him.

“Who do we know for sure are our allies?” Jean asked.

“Thunderstrike,” Zacherie replied.

“What’s left of them…” Tristan said.

“The Australians,” Constance said weakly. “Wild Corps.”

“How many of them are left?” Jean asked. “Three?”

Zacherie nodded.

Xavier was staring out of the cell’s forcefield with his arms crossed. “Not the Russians…Parow’da Mash will pay…”

When the French fell back to Arizona base and learned what had happened to Thunderstrike, the Russian team launched a surprise attack against them and overpowered the French team since they wouldn’t cooperate with Ikkari’s true schemes.

Xavier turned back to face his companions. “Whatever happened to Ryo? He was a good fighter.”

Tristan smiled. “And a lunatic…”

Jean shook his head. “Last I heard he returned to Japan after raiding that bio-chemical plant in the swamplands.”

“So…” Sattine said. “Basically all the other teams are against us…”

“It’s not so bad,” Tristan said sarcastically. “Just the Russians, Chinese, English, Canadians, and Brazil.”

Sattine sighed with frustration as she nodded. “Like I said…we need a plan. And it better be a damn good one.”

Mal’konai Temple

Jason ran through the main corridor lined with stone pillars as he approached the main temple chambers. He could find no sign of anyone. It was as if the entire temple was abandoned.

He slammed open the main chamber doors and was immediately enveloped in the mental illusion of a desert landscape as he stopped in his tracks.

The swirling cyclone and approached him and unraveled to form Vision.

“Where’s Yokoshima?” Jason asked.

“He has become desperate,” Vision said.

“Because Thunderstrike took out his pathogen…” Jason said.

Vision shook his head. “No. The facility was just a diversion…”

“Don’t use that word.”

Vision tilted his head. “I beg your pardon?”

“Facility…” Jason said. “It technically means bathroom and its not specific. It’s too vague. Say what the ‘facility’ actually is. Hospital, gym, or in this case, bio-chem plant…”

Vision was actually speechless for a moment, until he nodded with understanding.

“You took on another soul…” Vision said.

Jason narrowed his eyes at Vision. “What does that have to do with Yokoshima.”

“Your mind is unclear,” Vision said. “Troubled…This one you took recently…his memories trouble you…”

“Just get on with it,” Jason said. “What’s Yokoshima up to?”

“He’s decided to proceed ahead of schedule,” Vision said. “He is en route to Washington D.C. with a massive force while his expendable recruits have been carrying out random acts of terror. He plans to wipe the capital out, and then use the true carrier of the pathogen as his bargaining chip.”

“Who’s the carrier?” Jason asked. “It’s not me, is it?”

“No,” Vision said. “I do not know who it is…”

Jason shook his head as he rolled his hands up into fists.

“What is it that troubles you?” Vision asked.

“I don’t like that he kept me in the dark, Vision,” Jason said. “I don’t like that at all…”

“He knew that despite all the conditioning you’ve undergone here, you’d object to such large-scale senseless destruction,” Vision said.

Jason nodded, but his face still wrinkled with confusion. “But…I’m not sure why. Death is a part of life. Without death there is no life.”

“What will you do?” Vision asked.

Jason shook his head as he placed his hand on his forehead. “I don’t know…it’s all so complicated…”

“Is it?” Vision asked. “Do you blind yourself with allegiances?”

“No,” he answered.

“Do you approve of Yokoshima’s strategy?”

“No…”

“Then stop him,” Vision said.

“Even I can’t do that alone,” Jason said. “I’d need help.”

Vision nodded. “Your former teammates…”

Jason shook his head. “I don’t want to see them…and they don’t want to see me…”

“Does that matter?” Vision said. “They’re currently being held against their will by the very organization they were a part of. They will want to escape. They will want to stop Yokoshima.”

“So…” Jason started to say. “Ikkari’s finally showed his true skin?”

Vision nodded. “Make no mistake…regardless of whether you rescue your friends or not…regardless of whether you face Yokoshima or not…”

“I’m still a part of the game,” Jason said. “A puppet.”

Off the coast of California

Yokoshima had sent a message for all cell leaders to rendezvous in D.C for a final assault that would cripple the American government. Those who wished to join his cause afterwards would be free to do so. Those who didn’t would fall victim to his deadly pathogen.

The ocean waters were calm and still, until a massive force blasted through the ocean surface and into the sky. It was Yokoshima’s private army of bio weapons. He had a secret base hidden beneath the ocean five years ago, one that was under his direct control and run only by those he could trust without a doubt.

The main force consisted of a dozen giant bio-weapons nearly 100 meters tall each. The giants were headless, slender bodies of dark red organic tendrils. The chest plates of the creatures appeared to be made of black bone, with a red sphere in the center of each. The spheres contained some form of bubbling liquid. The creatures skinny arms extended nearly the same length as their bodies, bristling with spikes and claws.

Bio-propulsion units in the creatures’ backs gave them the power of flight, albeit slow.

Alongside the colossal weapons was a large group of 12-foot tall soldiers. These creatures were massive bulks of dark red organic tendrils with pieces of black bone armor segments running down their arms, legs, and chests. Thick black spikes grew from their elbows. Their heads were little more than fleshy stumps between their shoulders with two red slits serving as eyes.

Countless numbers of humanoid-shaped creatures accompanied the giants. They were composed of the same dark red tendrils, and they had to segments of black bone armor on their chest, and segments running along their armor and ankles. Their heads and faces were nothing but the strings of organic tendrils.

Yokoshima stood on the back of the lead 100-meter tall unit as his attack force approached the coast of California. It would take a considerable amount of time to cross the country and reach DC, but it would be worth it.

The survival of the human race depended on his success. Mankind could no longer be allowed to slowly kill itself. A new order had to be established, and he would be the one to usher in that order. He would be the one to bring peace, and usher the world into a new golden era.

Yokoshima stared ahead boldly as his forces moved on. He regretted leaving behind Jason, as he had actually grown fond of the boy. But Yokoshima knew Jason couldn’t understand why such an extreme act was necessary, despite his conditioning. After it was over though, he looked forward to having Jason at his side once more.

Yuuri charged forward as she ducked, letting one of Kresh’s tentacles pear over her. She continued her advance and jumped straight up as a strike passed beneath her, but didn’t manage to avoid the second blow as one of Kresh’s tendrils slammed against her side and knocked her through one of the bio containers.

Yuuri flipped back to her feet and assumed a fighting stance as she watched Kresh shed his jacket like a snake skin. He was wearing a black tank top underneath

Kresh’s skin started to ripple as his hair pulled back off his head. Twin rows of small spikes grew from his forehead, extending from his eyebrows all the way around to the back of his neck. His muscles rippled beneath his shirt as his skin turned pale green and his eyes started to glow with a tint of yellow. A column of spikes extended from each of his forearms, and six tentacles grew from his back, three on each side.

“I never wanted to hurt you, Yuuri,” Kresh said.

“Funny,” Yuuri said as she downloaded her blaster, “I was thinking the exact opposite about you.”

Yuuri charged forward while firing the blaster, and Kresh used his tentacles to absorb the impact of her attacks.

Arizona Base

Blake placed his hand over Max’s heart as he shook his head.

“His heart rate’s slowing, Vince,” he said. “He’s getting worse…”

Vince walked back to the force field where the guard stood with a sick grin of satisfaction on his face.

“Get him some help, now,” Vince said sternly.

The guard turned and looked at Vince. “I don’t have the authority to…”

The guard’s voice seemed to catch in his throat as his eyes opened wide fear and his skin grew pale. He started clawing at his throat as if someone was choking him.

Vince took a step back away from the field, more than a little surprised, as an invisible force slammed against the guard’s back and sent him crashing against the force field, its energy sending shocks through his entire body.

The soldier let out a final gasp of life before his dead body crumpled to the ground. Vince looked up as his eyes narrowed once he saw who was standing behind the guard.

It was Jason.

Vince shook his head as he rolled his hands up into fists. “You have a lot of nerve showing up here…”

“Save it,” Jason said as he walked forward and deactivated the field.

Vince lunged forward as soon as the field was down and slammed a right hook punch across Jason’s face.

Vince pulled back his left arm to strike another blow, but an unseen force held his arm steady.

“Not now…” Jason said as he used his telekinetics to hold Vince still. “We get Max his cure, free the others, then we go to DC…Yokoshima is planning to wipe out the entire city, and even I can’t stop him alone. I know you hate me, and quite frankly I don’t care.”

“Go to hell,” Vince said.

Jason actually laughed. “Do you have any idea how easy it would be for me to splatter your brains across the wall for saying that? Luckily three out of the five voices screaming constantly in my head think that’s a bad plan.”

Jason used a small tk blast to shove Vince a few steps backwards before releasing him.

“Now,” Jason said. “Let’s go.”

“Just like that, huh?” Vince asked with disbelief. “You expect to go on like all is forgiven?”

“Vince,” Jason said. “Would you just get over yourself, for Christ’s sake? I don’t care…I want to stop Yokoshima. You want to stop Yokoshima. That’s all that matters, so let’s get the hell out of this place.”

***

The base’s lab area was on the lower level, sealed off by a round gear-shaped doorway at the end of a narrow corridor.

Two ISIS guards were positioned on either side of the entryway, each armed with high-power automatic rifles and covered in a light suit of armor.

The guards immediately snapped to attention and aimed their weapons forward when they saw Jason enter the corridor alongside Vince. Blake was walking behind them with Max slung over his shoulder.

“Freeze!” the soldiers shouted before opening fire.

Jason extended his hand and used his telekinetics to stop each bullet before turning their points back towards the guards and launching them forward. The blasts ripped through the soldiers as they fell to the ground.

The four continued walking towards the giant door as Jason extended his other hand and casually swung his arm to the left, ripping the entrance from the wall with a strand of invisible energy.

They entered the small lab room as the technicians inside stepped back in fear. Jason let loose a low level psionic pulse that knocked them out as Vince looked around the room.

“There,” he said when he spotted the sphere and ran over to it.

Blake cleared off a lab table with a swoop from his forearm before laying Max down on his back.

Jason shook his head as he watched. “Do you know what you’re doing?”

Blake ignored Jason while Vince brought over the sphere. Blake said the canister aside while holding a hypo-spray to it and filling the device with the cure.

“I’ve practically lived in the medical bay,” Blake said as he finished loading the hypo-spray and held it up against the side of Max’s neck. “I’ve seen my mother do this hundreds of times…”

“How long until it works?” Jason asked.

“I have no idea,” Blake said.

Jason sighed as he shook his head. “We can’t just stay here…we have to keep moving…”

“We’ll just take him with again,” Blake said defensively. “We’re not going to leave him.”

“Fine,” Jason said, “but let’s move. Now. We have to get your armor braces, then we’ll free the others. Hopefully by then Max will be mobile and we can get to DC.”

A clanking noise outside the room caused their heads to snap up. They looked to see two of the Russian rangers in their armor: Fillip and Oksana.

Fillip wore the blue armor of the shark, and Oksana the white armor of the tiger. They were lovers.

Jason moved forward and stood between his former teammates and the Russians as he looked over his shoulder to face Vince.

“This will only take a second…” he said before he turned to face the two Russians. His armor slithered to life around his body.

Fillip armed his fin-like arm blades, and Oksana activated her metal baton.

Oksana smiled beneath her helmet. “After you, lover.”

“Thank you my dear,” Fillip replied.

Fillip dove forward to strike Jason with his fin blades extended forward. Jason grabbed onto the blades and snapped them off Fillip’s armor before slamming a kick against the ranger’s chest, followed by a jump reverse hook kick across his helmet. Fillip was thrown to the side of the lab as he crashed against the wall.

Jason dashed towards Fillip’s fallen form in a blur of motion while grabbing the back the ranger’s helmet and slamming his head through the wall. Jason pulled Fillip’s head back while bringing his other fist around and slamming a punch that shattered through the ranger’s face plate and bashed in his skull.

Fillip’s lifeless body collapsed to the ground as Oksana screamed.

“No!” she shouted as she charged forward with her baton held above her head to strike.

She swung the baton down towards Jason’s head, but he caught her by the wrist and twisted the baton free while taking it into his own hand, spinning forward, and slamming the short staff through Oksana’s face plate.

Jason deactivated his armor.

On the lab table, Max’s eyes started to flutter open as he breathed weakly. “Where…Constance…”

Ikkari stood with Hunter on top of a tall metal column that extended upwards inside of a large black dome. The dome had a yellow grid displaying a map of the world spread across it.

“This is what I wanted to show you,” Ikkari said.

Hunter nodded. “A map…you diabolical genius…”

“Sarcasm does not become you, William,” Ikkari said as his eyes surveyed the map above them with a look of awe.

“What I have laid out here will allow ISIS to bring the world to its knees in a matter of weeks. Possibly even days,” Ikkari said. “And it will not be done by the will of false gods. It will be done by man. For the sake of man.”

“What is it you’re talking about?” Hunter asked.

“I’m talking about the end to a society that breeds evil like the Vyram, William,” Ikkari said. “And end to war. Hunger. Poverty. It’s as simple as wiping out the ruling forces that oppress us, and those who would destroy us, like the Vyram and other religious extremists and terrorists.”

Red lights began blinking on the map above them.

“These blips,” Ikkari explained, “they represent nuclear missile silos across the world.”

Hunter shook his head. “You’re crazy. You can’t possibly be considering a nuclear war…”

“Not war,” Ikkari said. “Salvation. We will wipe out the Middle East, and ISIS will take responsibility immediately afterwards, demanding all governments turn over control of their nations to us, or meet the same fate.

“We have a method of controlling every nuclear device on the planet, so I don’t expect much opposition.”

Hunter narrowed his eyes at Ikkari. “I always knew you were crazy…but this? You can’t possibly be serious…”

“Oh, I am,” Ikkari said as he tapped the side of his temple. “This room is the key…one of the most complex computer systems on the planet, and its trigger lies in a neuro-chip I had implanted in my brain…

“The cradle of terrorism will be destroyed. Afterwards, the world will either join us or die.”

***

Hayes was still in the cell with the blonde girl when the soldier guarding their cell suddenly convulsed and collapsed to the ground.

Claudia looked over to see Jason, Vince, Blake, and Max walked towards her cell and deactivate the force field. She draped the young woman’s arm over her shoulder and stood. Hayes noticed Blake was holding Max up in a similar way.

“Are you all alright?” Hayes asked.

Blake nodded. “We got Max the cure…he’s doing a lot better.”

“Good,” Hayes said as she looked towards Jason. “What are you doing here?”

“Long story,” Jason said as he looked to the room’s exit. He felt a tingling sensation run across the back of his head. Something was wrong. “I’m going after Ikkari. Get your armor braces and free the others.”

Jason darted out of the room. Hayes flashed Vince and Blake a look of confusion.

“I don’t know,” Vince said. “I don’t know…”

***

Hunter was looking across the dome while alongside Hunter when the rear entrance to the room exploded inward. Through the smoke, Jason stepped forward. He walked across one of the four narrow bridges leaning to the center column as Ikkari watched, adjusted his glasses.

“Well…” Ikkari said. “I knew it was only a matter of time before you came here.”

“No you didn’t,” Jason said as he walked forward. “I can sense your fear. Your surprise…”

Ikkari pressed a small button on his left watch as three ports opened above the dome and three combat rangers dropped to the other bridges. They were from the Chinese team, each with a different geometric symbol as their visor. The green-armored ranger had a square, the blue-armored ranger had an upside down triangle, and the black-and-gold-armored ranger had a three prong design of some kind.

“Kill him,” Ikkari said.

The three combat rangers leapt forward in silence as they moved to attack Jason.

Jason narrowed his eyes as his Shadow Blade armor activated. “You have no idea how easy this is for me…”

Blue charged in first while arming triangle shape forearm blades. The ranger dashed forward, spinning while holding his blades to strike horizontally.

Jason grabbed one of Blue’s wrists with his right hand and pushed his left hand hard against the elbow, snapping the joint and bending the arm in a way it was never intended as bones and tendons popped.

Jason followed by slamming his elbow against the ranger’s throat, and stepping closer while grabbing onto Blue’s chest plate. Jason tore the chest plate free as sparks exploded across the ranger’s armor and he fell to the ground.

Green and Gold charged forward side by side. Green held a small metallic axe in each hand while the other Ranger had a slender golden blade.

Green leapt forward while swinging his weapons down vertically towards Jason’s head. Jason stepped to the side and grabbed a hold of Green’s wrist, twisting the ranger’s arm behind his back before lifting up and snapping the bone. Jason threw Green against the ground and brought his foot down through his face plate and skull.

Jason armed his right forearm blade as Gold started swinging his sword like a mad man. Jason parried each blow with ease before slamming his blade across the ranger’s wrist, causing Gold’s saber to fly from his hand. Jason stepped forward while grabbing Gold’s helmet and ripping it free as sparks exploded across his armor. Jason slammed his fist against Gold’s face, and he flew backwards from the blow as his lifeless body slammed to the ground.

Jason looked up to see Ikkari had vanished, and Hunter was standing alone.

“Go to the others,” Jason said to Hunter. “Then get out of here and head to DC.”

“Jason…” Hunter said. “What’s happened to you? The way you just…”

“Just go,” Jason said impatiently. “I’ll meet up with you all at the capital. I have a stop to make first.”

“Where?” Hunter asked.

“Yuuri…” Jason said. “I can…feel her. I’m bringing her back.”

Before leaving the room, Jason sent a tk pulse into the dome’s systems, overloading them explosions started to tear the dome to shreds.

***

Two guards were posted at the cell containing Dragon Violer when a third soldier entered the room, visibly nervous. Sattine and Jean eavesdropped, managing to pick up a few words.

Apparently Thunderstrike was freed by Shadow Blade, and Ikkari had retreated the compound to protect his own life.

The door to the cell room opened again as a small plasma handgun was tossed across the ground. The guards drew their weapons, but the gun exploded before they could eye their targets. The shockwave knocked them unconscious as they fell to the ground.

Vince entered the room along with the rest of his group. Hayes had rewired the weapon after taking it from one of the guards at her cell.

Tristan smiled as he saw Vince deactivate their cell’s force field. “Nice to see you again…”

“Isn’t it though,” Vince said sarcastically as he picked up the fallen guards’ weapons and tossed them to the French rangers. He was in no mood for joking, even though he knew it was just a way for some to break the tension.

Constance moved over to Max’s side and ran her fingers through his hair as he smiled at her weakly.

“Is he okay?” she asked Blake, who was still supporting his teammate.

“He’ll be alright,” Blake said.

“Okay,” Hayes said, “We need to get you your armor braces back, then get to the hanger bay. The mecha, Valkyries, and transports are still there.”

Xavier loaded one of the guard’s rifles, a smile spread across his face. “This should be fun…”

The Pacific Ocean

The sound of thunder crashing signified the sound barrier breaking as Jason ran fast enough to literally skip across the ocean, much like a pebble skipping over a pond.

He wasn’t sure at what point he decided to find Yuuri and bring her back to DC. To save her from whatever she was facing. Jason told himself it was because everyone would be needed in their final battle, but he couldn’t help wonder if there was another reason. One he would be too hesitant to admit.

Arizona Base

ISIS guards roamed around the massive holding bay, examining the captures assorted vehicles from Eagle Six with peaked interest. The five massive mecha carriers with animal-like robots were of particular interest. Thunderstrike’s mecha was one of a kind.

The bay also held an assortment of smaller transports, a pair of stealth jets, and a prototype wing of Valkyrie fighter jets.

Ikkari’s scientists and technicians were questioning Eagle Six soldiers and techies, while armored ISIS guards stood by with their weapons armed, making sure no one tried to be a hero.

The three surviving members of Australia’s ranger team were also being held captive in the bay due to a shortage of holding areas.

One of the guards heard a noise come from one top of a mecha carrier. He looked up just as black-armored Xavier aimed down two rifles and opened fire. The guards were taken by surprise and scurried across the floor, taking positions to return fire at the ranger.

A quartet of blade boomerangs whizzed throw the air and started cutting through the ISIS troops before they could open fire on Xavier.

Half the soldiers opened fire on Xavier’s position while the others quickly scanned the roof, frantically searching for the origin of the blade boomerangs.

From a Valkyrie besides the second group, blue-armored Zacherie landed and tossed two stakes forward that slammed through a pair of soldiers. They turned to face the ranger and opened fire, but yellow-armored Constance swooped down from the air and tossed her daggers towards them.

One of the soldiers started radioing for backup as Vince, Blake, and Max led Hayes and the young woman Max had started calling “Jane” to one of the stealth carriers. Max had his brace, but was too weak to activate his armor yet.

Vince had his blaster downloaded and was unloading several rounds against soldiers who tried to cut off their path towards the jet.

Sattine dashed forward in a streak of red as she tackled her way through a group of guards and flipped through the air before landing in front of the three Australian rangers. She moved over to them and tore off their bindings before tossing them their braces.

“Thanks,” the ranger known as Mel said as he strapped on his blue-tinted brace.

Mel, Derek, and their teammate Mirial strapped on their braces and shouted “Install, Wild Corps!” as they transformed into their armor.

Chaos continued to reign across the hanger floor as red-armored Jean escorted Hunter and Jiraiya to the second stealth jet.

The rear entrance to the hanger suddenly exploded open as three combat rangers loyal to Ikkari stepped forward. Two of them were Russians: red-armored Sergei and silver-armored Damitri with the styling of a wolf. The third was from England’s combat ranger team. His green armor had an intricate gold shield over his chest plate, and his helmet bore the styling of a dragon.

Vince gently pushed Hayes, Jane, and Max into the Stealth Jet.

“Blake,” he said. “Let’s go.”

“Right,” Blake said as he and Vince dashed forward through the battle area towards the three new arrivals. “But ya know, it’s kind of getting crowded in here.”

“Only one way to fix that,” Vince said as he aimed his blaster forward.

Nearby, Sattine spotted the new arrivals as well. She leapt against a Valkyrie and pushed off, allowing her to leapt high across the hanger floor towards the three enemy rangers.

Sattine tossed off three claw shaped throwing blades as Vince opened fire with his blaster.

The three enemy rangers rolled out of the way from the attacks. Sergei somersaulted across the ground and rose to a crouched position as he activated his claw-shaped fist blades.

Vince activated his fist blades. “Cowardly lion is mine.”

Sergei snarled beneath his visor. “You will regret your words.”

Sergei pounced forward while swinging his claws outward in an ‘x’ pattern, but Vince stepped aside while parrying the blows and followed through with a punch against the enemy ranger’s chest. Vince’ fist blade speared against the other Sergei’s armor as he was pushed back.

Vince followed by sidestepping forward and snapping a sidekick towards Sergei’s faceplate, but the other ranger caught Vince’s leg and slammed his elbow against his thigh.

Blake downloaded his Tiger Saber as he ran towards the English ranger in the Green Dragon armor. Green Dragon downloaded an emerald dagger as he stood in a defensive stance.

Blake spun forward while swinging his blade horizontally. Green Dragon blocked the blow with his dagger, and followed with a diagonal strike that sparked against Blake’s armor.

Blake stepped back and assumed a defensive stance.

“Ya know,” Blake said. “You’d be speaking German if it wasn’t for us.”

“Bug off,” Green Dragon said as he tossed his dagger forward like a spear.

Blake flipped backwards, letting the dagger pass over him, and landed just as Green Dragon slammed a jump kick against his faceplate.

Damitri activated his claw-shaped fist blades as he charged towards Sattine and started swinging in a fit of animal rage. Sattine dodged each strike with ease.

Silver swung a left backhand strike towards Sattine, and she countered by jumping and blocking the blow with her left angle before swinging her right leg around in a tornado kick that slammed against his helmet.

***

Hayes entered the cockpit and of a stealth jet and began the engine power up sequence. She looked through the forward viewport as the three Australian rangers gave cover to the Eagle Six survivors who boarded the various transports ad fighters in the hanger.

“Claudia,” Hunter’s voice said from over the comm line. “Most of our people are loaded. Are you clear to blast open the hanger doors.”

“Yes,” she answered. “Ready whenever you are.”

“Go for it,” Hunter said.

The lower missile racks of the stealth jet opened and empty a payload that exploded against the bay doors, ripping them from the base as several ISIS soldiers were thrown backwards by the shockwave.

The Valkyries activated their thrusters as they rose from the deck and blasted their throttle to full. The fighter wing jet through the opening and streaked off towards the skies. The other transports began launching next.

On the hanger bay floor, the combat rangers loyal to Hunter’s group pulled back and entered the stealth jets’ boarding ramp while cutting through and shooting down the last of the ISIS soldiers.

Vince, Blake, and Sattine’s battle continued.

Green Dragon dashed forward while arming his diamond-shaped fist blade and swinging a punch towards Blake’s face plate. Blake high blocked the blow while stepping forward and slashing his blade diagonally upside Green Dragon’s chest.

Green Dragon was forced a few steps backwards as Blake pushed forward. He double jump side kicked the green-armored ranger in the chest and landed while swinging a backfist across the enemy ranger’s helmet.

Dragon Green stepped back and assumed an offensive stance, placing his hands over his golden shield as emerald electricity crackled along his chest plate. A sphere of electrical energy formed between the ranger’s hands.

“Dragon Fang!” he shouted as he hurled the blast forward.

Blake leapt into the air while splitting his legs and letting the blast pass beneath him before slamming against the hanger wall.

Blake landed in a crouched position before pouncing forward with his tiger saber and charging the weapon with sonic energy.

“Sound Bite!” he shouted as a jagged pulse of white energy slammed against the enemy ranger, overloading his armor’s systems as he went crashing against the hanger bay wall and falling limp onto the ground.

Nearby, Damitri swung his claw blades towards Sattine’s head, but the red-armored ranger ducked underneath his blow and slammed an elbow strike against his gut. Sattine jumped up and snapped a hook kick across the enemy ranger’s head, followed by a palm heel strike to his chest.

Damitri was forced back as Sattine assumed an offensive stance.

The diamond slabs of armor plating along her arms and legs started to super heat with energy, as well as the dragon claw symbol on her chest. She extended her hands forward as the heat intensified.

“Max feu, alumar!” she shouted as her chest emblem fired a stream of fiery energy that crashed against the silver-armor ranger and bashed him against a wall.

Meanwhile, Sergei slashed his claws across Vince’s chest armor and slammed a knee against his gut. He swung again with his left arm, but Vince outer blocked the blow and slammed a fist bladed punch against Sergei’s face plate.

Sergei stepped back in a daze as Vince moved forward.

“I never…” he said as he slammed a hook punch across the enemy ranger’s helmet. “…liked…” he slammed an uppercut against Sergei’s gut. “…your attitude…” Vince finished by slamming his forehead against Sergei’s face plate, knocking the Russian to the ground.

Behind the rangers, the lead stealth jet started to lift off on its thrusters, while keeping its boarding ramp extended.

“Ride’s here,” Blake said.

“Come on,” Sattine said as she sprang through the air towards the ramp. The other two followed.

The stealth jet’s ramp closed as the last of Eagle Six’s machines left the hanger bay.

Sergei rose to his feet and watched the departing ignition trails while narrowing his eyes, glaring through his cracked visor.

***

Yuuri and Kresh continued their fight, neither one of them tiring. Neither one of them were letting up. They let their rage over their shared father flow into their every strike and counter blow as they tore through the small lab.

Kresh managed to wrap one of his tendrils tightly around Yuuri and slam her against the rear wall of the lab before slamming her against the ceiling and then back onto the ground.

He slowly coiled his tentacle back in as Yuuri slowly rose to her feet while assuming a defensive stance and downloading her daggers.

“Let’s end this,” Kresh said. “Together…there’s no need for one of us to die. We are both victims, Yuuri…victims of our father’s madness.”

“You killed him,” she said. “Now you do nothing but insult his memory…If you truly believe he abandoned you, I have no trouble seeing why.”

Kresh narrowed his eyes and snapped out with all his tentacles and used them to whip Yuuri backwards and disarm her.

He extended his hand and launched a tentacle from it that wrapped around Yuuri’s neck and lifted her into the air.

“Good-bye, sister…”

An invisible force slammed Kresh against the wall, causing his grip on Yuuri to slacken as she dropped to the ground. She looked up to see Jason standing by the entryway while in his skin-tight body suit.

Jason walked forward towards Kresh and slammed another invisible pulse against him that slammed him against the wall, knocking him unconscious as he crumpled to the ground.

Yuuri ran towards Jason and tackled him against the wall as she held a knife to his throat.

“Do it,” Jason said as he stared through Yuuri’s visor. “Do it…”

Yuuri glared at Jason through her helmet as she pinned him harder against the wall. “You killed Tyler…you almost killed the rest of us…”

“Do it…” he said again. “I stopped caring…”

“Why?” she asked. “Why did you come here?”

“I need you to come back with me,” Jason said. “To fight Yokoshima with us. He’s headed to the capital…”

“Why should I trust you?” she asked.

“You shouldn’t,” Jason said. “You should run your knife threw my throat and leave me for dead…”

She released Jason and powered down her armor. “Feeling guilty?”

Jason didn’t answer, he only stared at her blankly.

“You should be…” she said. “You hurt us…worse than the Vyram ever did.”

“In the end it won’t matter,” Jason said.

She shook her head, still not fully believing what had happened to her former friend, and not understanding in the slightest.

“Let’s go then,” she said as she turned.

“What about Kresh?” Jason asked. “I could fry his brain or…”

“No,” she said. “Leave him…”

Washington DC

Yokoshima’s army descended upon the capital city like a ravage storm.

His colossal bio units landed near capital hill and began slamming through buildings left and right with their massive claws as citizens and tourists below ran in panic.

The 12-foot-tall units landed near the Lincoln Memorial and Washington monument while firing optic blasts of red fiery energy that tore through the ground, surrounding trees, and literally cut the Washington Monument in half as it tipped over and slammed against the now war torn earth.

Smaller soldiers scattered across the landscape, spreading past the Jefferson Memorial and beyond.

Yokoshima leapt off of the back of his giant weapon as he landed on the streets below and started stalking towards the White House with a bold look of determination on his face.

***

Eagle Six’s Valkyrie fighter wing was the first force to arrive on scene. The wing commander, his handle Vermilion Leader, looked out his cockpit towards the destruction below as the giant bio weapons came into range.

“Vermilion wing, this is lead,” he said over the comm line. “Designate larger bogeys as Sentries, and smaller units as Gears.

“Lock missiles onto nearest Sentries and open fire on my mark, then break for strafing runs……mark!”

Racks of missiles unloaded as they streaked through the sky and exploded against several of the Sentries, causing only minimum damage as the fighters broke formation and swooped down towards individual targets below.

Skull Leader positioned a group of Gears in his cross hairs as he rolled his fighter to port. He pressed his thumb down on the trigger and twin weapon barrels unloaded high-velocity explosive blasts that tore across the ground before cutting through the lines of Gears. The blasts tore through their flesh in an impressive display of explosions and shrapnel, but the Gears seemed to suffer only minimal damage.

Skull Leader watched on his radar monitor as four blue pips signifying his squadron mates disappeared while taking on a larger Sentry.

“Two Flight, Three Flight, form on my wing. We need to concentrate our fire on those Sentries…they’re slow as sin, but dangerous…”

Skull Fight barrel rolled towards the nearest Sentry as Two and Three Flights formed on his wing.

“Switch to Battleroid mode,” Skull Leader commanded as the Valkyries underwent modular transformations, shaping them into humanoid-like mechanical warriors.

***

The stealth jets arrived and quickly unloaded the combat ranger teams a second after touching down. Each ranger was wearing a black colored jumpsuit as they ran across the hillside near Washington Monument towards the Lincoln Memorial to where a large group of 12-foot tall Gears and humanoid sized Shades were wreaking havoc.

Vince, Blake, and Max readied their braces. Max was still weak, but would not be talked out of the fight.

“Thunder power strike!” Vince and Max shouted as their armor shimmered to life.

“Tiger power, strike!” Blake yelled as his white armor activated.

The five main members of Dragon Violer readied their braces.

“Dragon Changement!” they shouted as they activated their armor.

Sattine readied her brace.

“Dragon Changement, Max!” she shouted as her red and gold armored suit activated.

The three members of Wild Corp. stepped forward next.

“Install, Wild Corps!” they shouted as their armor activated.

A swarm of Shades charged towards them, each making hissing sounds that combined into a hideous chorus.

Vince activated his Fist Blades. “Focus on the Gears first…”

Max downloaded his longknives. “Don’t suppose we could just ask the little guys to move.”

Vince and Blake both smiled beneath their helmets. It was good to have Max back.

The Shades leapt forward with surprising speed and agility as the rangers hit back.

Max spun forward while slicing both blades horizontally through a Shade’s chest while it was in mid air. He moved forward and slammed a tornado kick across the next soldier’s head.

Blake leapt forward and landed on top of a Shade’s shoulders, slamming one foot down against the creature’s collar bone and the other against the back of the Shade’s head, using his momentum to flip forward and bring his tiger saber down vertically through another soldier’s leathery flesh.

Vince ran forward besides Mel, the blue-armored Australian ranger. Mel armed two dagger-shaped claws extending from the sides of his right forearm. The Blue Gorilla used the blade to hack off a soldier’s arm before slamming a fist against its chest.

Vince flying sidekicked a Shade backwards before turning to his right and hook punching a soldier across the head, his fist blades smashing through the creature’s fleshy skull.

Xavier and Zacherie moved in, each spraying their side arms back and forth while blasting soldiers to pieces.

Tristan activated his black armor plating, using the plates as spikes as he charged through a group of Shades, tackling them and slamming them to the ground as his armor plating ripped them to shreds.

Green-armored Derek charged forward alongside pink-armored Mirial as the two Australians approached a group of Shades. Derek leapt forward and slammed a flying reverse axe kick against a Shades collar bone as Mirial activated her gauntlet crossbow and cut down a trio of Shades to her right.

Nearby, Jean activated his armor plating and smashed the edges against the chest of an incoming soldier in a close line blow that knocked the creature to the ground.

Sattine flipped backwards while kicking a soldier upside the head, but when she landed, a Gear’s hand reached out as if from no where and wrapped its massive fingers around her arm before tossing her aside like a rag doll.

Constance glided through the air and caught Sattine while tossing a pair of daggers at the Gear, but her weapons did little damage.

The Gear fired optic blasts of plasma energy that slammed against Constance and knocked the two rangers from the air.

Max looked over at the two just in time to leap forward and catch them in midair, but his legs gave out when he landed and the two rangers fell on top of him.

“Apparently I’m still not at my prime…” he said sheepishly as the three rose and a group of four Gears surrounded them.

Back in the air, The Battleroid Valkyries swarmed around a Sentry while firing rapid-fire rail cannons that blazed louder than chainsaws. Their blasts exploded and tore through the Sentry’s flesh bit by bit, but the creature kept moving.

The Sentry swung his backhand towards a group of four Valkyries. The Battleroids fired their foot thrusters and tried to back away, but the giant’s blow crashed into them and severely damaged the fighters as they plummeted out of control towards the ground.

Skull Leader maneuvered his Valkyrie towards the red sphere at the center of the Sentry’s chest and opened missile racks along the Battleroid’s arms and legs. A volley of high-density missiles streamed towards the red sphere and slammed against it, massive explosions cracking the orb.

The Sentry continued its advance and Skull Leader barely avoided being swatted from the air like a fly.

***

Max, Constance, and Sattine leapt straight up into the air as a quartet of optic blasts obliterated the ground where they once stood.

Constance used her arm gliders to back flip through the air and swoop down towards a gear. She downloaded her daggers and stabbed the weapons through the creature’s shoulder, then pulled the blades out and kicked off the Gear’s chest while flipping backwards and landing on the ground.

The Gear spun forward with surprising speed and slashed his elbow blade across Constance’s armor, tossing her backwards. The giant leapt into the air and angled his descent so his elbow blade would cut through the ranger’s chest.

Max leapt to Constance’s aid.

“Oh no ya don’t, big time,” he shouted as he stood by Constance and held his blades up high in an ‘x’ formation, blocking the blow between his sabers.

Max was nearly pushed to his knees from the force of the Gear’s downward strike, but he managed to push the creature’s blade back and spin forward while holding his longknives backwards and slamming its point through the creature’s midsection. He jumped straight up while tearing a gaping hole through the creature’s chest.

Nearby, Blake charged forward towards a Gear while downloading his tiger saber. Vince jumped onto Blake’s shoulders and pushed off while arming his fist blades and diving forward towards the giant creature.

Vince drove his blades through the Gear’s upper chest while planting his feet against the creature’s lower chest. He used his footing to stay in that position as he swung a volley of punches that ripped through the creature.

Blake moved in as Vince back flipped off the creature. The white-armored ranger tossed his saber forward as it spun through the air like a helicopter blade and ripped through the creature’s injured chest before tearing through the Gear’s back.

The monster remained on its feet, although weakened.

Blake shook his head. “These things don’t go down easy…”

Vince downloaded his blaster and unloaded several rounds of rapid-fire shots against the wound.

On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Zacherie leapt onto a Gear’s back while driving his two stakes through the creatures shoulders.

Xavier stood in front of the Gear while firing several blasts with his two rifles that shattered away at the creature’s boney black chest armor.

Farther back, a Gear stomped through the streets while firing optic blasts in every direction, causing massive explosions and flames to erupt.

Tristan charged towards the Gear while arming his raptor-like fist blades. Jean fell in step besides Tristan while firing his blaster. The shots exploded against the Gear’s chest armor as Tristan leapt forward.

The Gear swung his elbow, scraping the elbow blade across Tristan’s chest armor in a shower of sparks as the ranger was tossed backwards.

Jean aimed towards the creatures eyes and fired. The blasts tore through their mark as red ichor exploded from the creature’s eyes, and the wounded Gear was forced a few steps back.

Tristan crouched on the ground while downloading his curved saber.

“That’s more like it,” he said as he sprang forward, flipping through the air as he brought his blade straight down towards the stump serving as the creature’s head.

Nearby, a small group of Shades still pushed forward through the city as the Australian team tried to slow them down.

Derek downloaded his twin batons as he moved towards a soldier. He swung the right club across a Shade’s knees, knocking the feet from the soldier while swinging his left club against the creature’s chest and smashing the Shade to the ground.

Derek saw through the side of his visor as a Valkyrie streaked down from the sky in a ball of flame. Its crash was angled towards where Mirial was kicking her way through a group of Shades.

“Move!” he shouted as he leapt over and pushed her out of the way just as the Valkyrie crashed down and exploded, creating a fiery shockwave that blasted the two Australians backwards and damaged their armor.

***

A Gear was stomping through the city while firing optic blasts at buildings. Fire tore through the streets.

Through the flames, Shadow Blade flipped forward through the air and crashed his heel against the Gear’s head.

Jason landed in front of the giant creature as he armed his fist blades and dove forward in a spinning screw attack that drilled through the Gear’s chest armor and flesh.

Jason dropped to his feet and reached out with his telekinetics, driving a wedge of invisible energy in the wound and literally tearing the Gear in half as red ichor splashed onto the pavement.

A group of six Gears spotted Jason and charged forward to engage him.

“What the hell are these things…” he said to himself as he sprang forward in a blur of motion.

Shadow Blade launched a massive tk pulse that tore forward through the streets and exploded beneath the lead Gear, blowing the creature to pieces.

Jason leapt through the explosion while double sidekicking the second gear in the chest, knocking the massive creature to the ground.

A Gear moved in behind Jason and wrapped its arms around him while squeezing tightly.

“Nice try,” Jason said through his clenched jaw as he tore free from the Gear’s grasp, ripping the creature’s arms off. Jason twisted while in midair and slammed his heel between the Gear’s eyes as it fell backwards.

Jason landed on the ground while lifting up his hands and levitating large pieces of rubble. He extended his hands forward as the rubble shot forward faster than bullets and tore through the remaining Gears.

Shadow Blade streaked forward in a blur of motion as he ran towards the center of the battle.

***

An optic blast slammed against Vince’s armor and he was pushed backwards across the ground as small explosions danced across his armor.

The Gear that fired the blast lunged forward while swinging its elbow blade towards Vince. A spear slammed in front of the blow as if from no where, blocking the blade before it could strike the green-armored ranger. It was Yuuri.

The force of the impact pushed her back as the blind grinded against her spear, but she held her ground.

Yuuri pushed the blade away as she tossed her spear forward, and the weapon struck in the creature’s chest. The ranger downloaded her daggers and kicked her way up the Gear before flipping over the creature and grinding her daggers through its back.

She landed behind the creature as five more Gears stomped towards her. She twirled her spear into a defensive stance as Vince ran to her side.

“Hi,” he said as he downloaded his blaster.

“You're welcome,” she said as she charged forward. Vince fell into position besides her and fired several rounds with his weapon.

Jason dashed across the reflection pool by the Washington Memorial while kicking off water and diving towards a Gear at the base of the Lincoln memorial.

He crashed hard against the creature while driving his forearm blades through the Gear’s chest and slamming him backwards through several pillars, and smashing against the memorial itself as it crumbled to pieces.

Jason rose from the rubble as he turned to see a group of Shades stalking towards him. He tilted his head, sending out a telekinetic pulse that caused all of the soldiers to explode from their heads and chests.

***

Vince, Blake, Max, and Yuuri regrouped as they did a quick survey of the battle field. The French and Australian teams were rounding up the last of the Gears and Shades, but the Sentries above had wiped out nearly all the Valkyries with no losses.

Yuuri activated her communicator. “Dr. Hayes…can you bring in our mecha carriers.”

“Yuuri?” Hayes asked with surprise, but decided it best to ask later. “They’re on their way. Jiraiya just finished modifications to the Kirin so Blake can pilot it.”

Four of the five mecha carriers soared through the air, with the rangers battle machines suspended underneath. The carriers dropped the mecha as they plummeted towards the ground.

The rangers fired their propulsion grappling hooks towards the mecha and latched on as they reeled themselves into their cockpits.

***

The sentries continued to cause havoc as the four mecha of Thunderstrike charged in to attack.

Yuuri sat in her control capsule as she opened her mecha’s missile ports and aimed at the lead Sentry. She pressed down on her control switch, releasing a swarm of rockets that struck against a Sentry one by one, pushing the giant back with each blast.

“”Contain them to this area,” Yuuri said to her teammates over the comm lines. “We can’t let them spread further into the city.

***

“No problem,” Max said after hearing Yuuri’s instructions.

He spotted a Sentry in front of him ripping through a formation of Valkyries. He zeroed in on the target while pushing his control levels down and diving his Thunder Pegasus down towards the Sentry.

The Thunder Pegasus swooped down on its wings and hovered in midair while lifting its hind legs and smashing them repeatedly against the Sentry’s chest, pounding the creature backwards.

Blake brought the Thunder Kirin in low behind the Sentry as the Thunder Pegasus continued to force that creature back. The Sentry tripped over the Kirin and fell backwards, crashing onto its back.

Vince spotted the fall and pushed forward hard on his control levers, causing the Thunder Lion to pounce forward onto the Sentry. The Lion’s powerful jaws bit down into the Sentry’s chest and tore the red sphere from the fleshy creature’s body. Thunder Lion used its teeth and claws to tear the creature to shreds.

***

The White House was in flames as Yokoshima stood with his back towards the building. He was facing three Shades, each of which had optical sensors implanted in their heads which were broadcasting the scene across the world.

“Let this be a lesson,” Yokoshima said. “Those who refuse to relinquish control of their governments to me and my new order will perish. Mankind must not be allowed to…”

Yokoshima’s speech was cut short when the heads of the three Shades in front of him exploded, then their chests blew apart before they hit the ground. He looked up to see Shadow Blade slowly walking towards him.

***

Thunder Pegasus charged forward while spearing its horn through a Sentry’s chest, and tossing the creature aside. Thunder Lion pounced forward and clashed against the Sentry in midair while biting through its flesh.

The remaining five Valkyries formed up around Thunder Phoenix while streaking towards a group of four Sentries.

“Strafing runs,” she commanded.

The Valkyries broke formation and rolled down towards their targets while unleashing several volleys of missiles.

Yuuri twisted her controls to the right and pushed down, diving her Thunder Phoenix down to starboard while firing a steady stream of missiles.

***

Xavier used the end of his rifle to bash in the head of a Shade before turning towards a Gear and firing both his side arms at the hulking soldier.

Sattine rushed towards a Gear while building her armor’s energy. The diamond armor plating running along her arms and legs radiated with heat, as did the claw-leaf symbol on her chest.

The Gear fired an optic blast, and Sattine leapt straight into the air as the blast exploded beneath her.

“Max Feu!” she shouted as she extended her hands and fired a stream of fiery energy that ripped through the center of the Gear and caused the creature to explode.

A swarm of Shades surrounded Jean and Zacherie nearby, and the two rangers stood back to back while turning in circles and cutting down soldiers and ripping them to pieces.

***

Jason armed his forearm blades as Yokoshima narrowed his eyes.

“What now?” Yokoshima asked. “You mean to kill me with the very weapon I implanted within you? Have you no honor.”

Jason deactivated his armor as it pulled away from his skin.

“This coming from the guy who just wiped out an entire city,” Jason said.

Yokoshima shook his head, a look of disappointment on his face. “I knew you wouldn’t understand yet, Jason…but I didn’t expect this of you. I thought you had learned better.”

“Who’s the pathogen carrier?” Jason asked. “Tell me now…”

“No…” Yokoshima extended his hand.

Jason suddenly collapsed to the ground as his body convulsed with pain.

“You see,” Yokoshima said as he walked forward towards Jason, his hand still extended. “I still share a connection with the seed I planted inside of you. Fighting me will only get you killed, and I have no desire to see that happen.

“You have a chance here to help me lead the human race into a new era. To help mankind evolve. I will not ask you to participate it what I must do here to do…I only ask that you don’t get in my way…”

***

A Sentry lifted Thunder Kirin by the head. The creature’s arm blade traveled through the Sentry’s forearm and out its palm while slamming against the Thunder Kirin Repeatedly.

Blake felt each blow from within his cockpit as he struggled to break his mecha free.

“Someone get this damn thing off me!” he shouted.

Yuuri’s Thunder Phoenix shot through the air towards the back of the Sentry holding the Thunder Kirin while unloading a missile volley. The missiles exploded against the Sentry’s back as the creature swung its free armed backwards and swatted Yuuri’s mech from the air.

Thunder Lion pounced towards the arm holding Thunder Kirin and ripped the Sentry’s arm from the body with its powerful jaws.

Thunder Pegasus moved in and hovered in midair while slamming its hind legs against the creature and knocking it backwards.

Thunder Kirin landed on its feet after being released. Inside the mech, Blake pushed forward his control levers and The Thunder Kirin jumped on top of the Sentry and began ripping it apart with teeth and claws, splashing massive puddles of red ichor all over the ground below.

***

Jason’s body was in pain, but the mental agony far outweighed the physical. His body was used to pain, thanks to the Vyram conditioning, but the minds and souls he had absorbed screamed out in agony, like shards of glass splintering in his mind.

“No more…” he said through a clenched jaw. “No more!”

The organic tendrils of his armor erupted from his pores and started slithering across the ground as his armor left his body and sunk beneath the soil below him.

Jason struggled to catch his breath as he rose to his feet.

Yokoshima glared at the former ranger. “That was very foolish…That armor made you everything…How could you throw away the power that I gave you?”

Yokoshima narrowed his eyes, producing an invisible psionic pulse wave that tore through the ground and kicked up the wind as it zoomed towards Jason.

Jason’s abilities weren’t nearly as powerful without the Shadow Blade armor, but he wasn’t defenseless.

He crossed his arms in front of his body and tilted his head down while erecting an invisible tk barrier. Yokoshima’s blast slammed against the barrier, pushing the former ranger backwards as the resistance caused sparks of energy and a shockwave that tore through the ground.

Jason lowered his arms and saw Yokoshima charging towards him with his fist ready to strike.

Jason jumped up and somersaulted backwards in midair while kicking Yokoshima upside the head. The former ranger spun forward while slamming a backhand blow across Yokoshima’s face.

Yokoshima rolled with the blow while turning and slamming an elbow across Jason’s face. The Vyram extended his hands and produced a tk wave that slammed Jason backwards, sending him skidding across the ground.

Yokoshima sent another psionic pulse that ripped through the ground across a torrent of wind as it approached Jason.

Jason narrowed his eyes and produced a pulse of his own that tore towards Yokoshima. The two blasts intercepted, causing a booming thunderclap and large shockwave.

“Not bad,” Yokoshima said.

“I try,” Jason said as he charged forward. Yokoshima darted towards his opponent as well.

The two both swung punches, and their fists slammed into each other, causing a shockwave of energy to explode yet again.

Jason was knocked backwards by the energy pulse as blood dripped from his nose. He wiped the blood with his hand while rising to his feet.

Yokoshima looked at him and smiled. “Looks like your own power is taking a toll on your body.”

“No,” Jason said. “Just on you…”

Jason darted forward while surrounding himself with a psionic bubble that disrupted the air and ground around him. Sustaining the bubble was exhausting, and Jason assumed using his powers was more taxing without the enhancements of his Shadow Blade armor. Maybe even deadly, he thought as he felt pressure over his brain tighten.

Yokoshima extended his hand and fired a psionic pulse so powerful it crackling like lighting. The pulse slammed against Jason’s field, and the feedback made him feel like his head was about to explode. He pushed on, forward through Yokoshima’s pulse.

“Ha!” he shouted as he slammed through Yokoshima’s pulse with his fist along with an explosive display of power, and landed a punch that slammed against the Vyram’s ribs, sending him flying through the air backwards and crashing into the burning White House.

Jason walked forward towards his enemy as a cyclone of air started to circle around him as a result of his psionic power. Yokoshima slowly pulled himself up from the rubble, his body broken and bruised.

“You haven’t won yet, boy,” Yokoshima said as he pulled a needle from his pocket. “I offered you everything, you fool…Now I will simply take everything away…”

Yokoshima injected himself with the serum needle as his body started to convulse. A thunderous boom filled the air as Yokoshima’s body expanded to giant size. He remained proportionate despite his size, but his body resembled a half-decayed mummy. The growth serum he used was not pure, Jason guessed.

Yokoshima reached out to the remaining Sentries as the giants’ bodies disassembled and slithered towards Yokoshima, entering his body as he howled in painful delight.

“Shit,” Jason said as he looked up.

A large roar echoed through Jason’s head as he looked behind him. He saw nothing, but senses a powerful presence farther out of sight. He ran towards the sound as Yokoshima continued to transform up above.

Black spiked armor emerged over Yokoshima’s rotting skin as a long double edged spear formed between his hands and his eyes started to glow red. He howled as rows of spikes emerged from his head.

Yokoshima smiled as he looked out upon the four mechs. They were like ants to him now. They were nothing.

Jason continued to run, and stopped in his tracks when he came mere meters away from the source of the roaring noise. It was his dragon mech. The Thunder Dragon was standing on all fours, tilting its head while looking at Jason as if it were alive.

The dragon roared as its hot breaths passed over Jason like a strong breeze.

“I can’t…” he said quietly as he looked upon the dragon. It was a symbol of a past life. A symbol of a part of his soul that was dead.

The dragon opened its jaws and roared as if to disagree with Jason’s thoughts.

Jason shook his head. He wasn’t a ranger anymore. He wasn’t even Shadow Blade anymore. The dragon roared even loader as Jason collapsed to his knees, flashes of memory dancing across his mind’s eye.

At first the remnants of Tyler’s mind appeared. His reluctance when first recruited during a surprise attack by the rangers. His struggles to fit in despite the others who seemed to alienate him. His family. His determination to win the respect of the team.

Jason’s own memories started flashing. His smoke break on the Back Porch when recruited. His first glimpse of Eagle Six while standing alongside Hunter. Their first battle outside the UN versus the fire striker.

Max’s offers of friendship. Vince’s respect overcoming his dislike. Matt’s companionship despite his shyness. Yuuri…She was beautiful.

He remembered why he was so easily manipulated by Yokoshima in the first place: to learn about the enemy from the inside. He had succeeded, far more so than he ever dreamed.

So now what?

The dragon roared.

Jason looked up at the beast and wrinkled his brow, a grim look of determination on his face. He would finish what he started. Finish Yokoshima.

Jason leapt forward with a powerful display of agility as he landed on top of the dragon’s head and hopped into his control capsule. Even though he was out of his armor, his own psionic abilities let him feel the mech…only even stronger. More accurately.

It was at that point Jason realized the Thunder Dragon wasn’t just a weapon of technology and bio-matter. It was alive.

Jason closed his eyes and focused as he bonded with the Thunder Dragon.

***

Thunder Lion and Thunder Kirin both pounced towards Yokoshima, but he used his staff to knock the two mechs from the air, slamming them hard against their armor.

Thunder Phoenix and Thunder Pegasus flew towards the Vyram’s back, but he turned and launched a fiery optic blast that slammed both the mechs from the air.

Yokoshima turned his attention back towards the Thunder Lion and Kirin, preparing to finish them off with a blow from his staff.

A torrent of flame suddenly shot through the air like a comet and blasted against Yokoshima’s chest, sending him crashing along the ground.

The other rangers looked to see the Thunder Dragon zooming towards them while slithering through the sky.

“We’ll need the Talion,” Jason said over the comm to the others. They hesitated. “Come on…”

“Fine,” Yuuri said. She knew what would happen when they linked their zords together. Their minds would link as well. She was not looking forward to that at all.

“Thunder Talion, assemble!” Yuuri commanded.

BIO CELLS TO MAXIMUM OUTPUT

The Pegasus began to transform as it shot through the sky like a brightly-lit comet. Its legs folded underneath its body and its wings detached. Its head and neck lowered, aligning with the rest of its body.

The Kirin underwent a similar transformation, only its head seemed to form a giant fist.

The Lion’s body seemed to twist apart as reshaped itself into what resembled a lower torso, legs and feet. The head of the lion sat where the waist would be.

The dragon compacted into a massive square of armor and flesh with the gold and red head of the dragon protruding from the square. It’s neck and tail detached and formed two spear-like weapons before disappearing behind an energy wave. The Phoenix settled onto the back of what remained from the dragon and spread its wings.

Jason and the rangers felt a magnetism between each other as the mecha combined, a tornado of electrical energy twirling the giant beasts across the night sky in a dance of power.

The dragon became the chest, the Pegasus and Kirin formed the right and left arms respectively, and the Lion formed the lower body and legs. The Phoenix wings combined with the wings from the Pegasus and the two melded as they were covered in deep rusty-crimson armor. The wings covered the mech’s front as it streaked down from the sky towards its target.

Yokoshima looked up to see the comet of energy zoom towards him. The comet stopped in mid air, and the mech slashed its wings open, shattering the energy cacoon.

THUNDER TALION: ONLINE

Yokoshima narrowed his glowing eyes as he snarled at the giant mech. His deep growling voice caused the earth around him to tremble.

“You rangers have pained me for the last time,” Yokoshima growled.

The Thunder Talion hovered as Jason felt the others in the link. They each had changed so much.

Vince seemed almost burdened with a new sense of responsibility and duty. He had grown considerably, as had his anger towards Jason. Vince took Jason’s actions of betrayal rather personally…even so…Jason could sense a very, very small part of Vince that was glad to have Jason alongside him again. Unfortunate, that this part was overshadowed by anger.

Max still possessed a carefree and humorous exterior, but inside was a completely different story. He was much more hardened, edged by realities of death and loss. He felt guilt over the deaths of Crystal and Matt. Betrayal at the hands of someone he once considered a friend. Max was glad Jason was fighting alongside them, but cynical as to how long their reunion would last.

Blake was new to the link, and his inexperience was shining as bright as his white armor.

Then there was Yuuri. She was hurt. Jason had tried to kill her. The truth of her father weighed heavily upon her mind and heart. Jason had betrayed her. The death caused by the Vyram was unspeakable. She wasn’t sure whether she could ever begin to trust Jason again. Wasn’t sure if she even wanted to. She questioned his motives. She questioned him.

The raw emotions pouring from Jason’s teammates threatened to overwhelm him. Added to the link were his own feelings of self-doubt, self-loathing, confusion, pain, anger, hate, love, desire, betrayal, secrecy, madness…

Yokoshima charged forward while twirling his staff, crashing the weapon against the Thunder Talion and bashing the mech against the ground.

Yokoshima leapt towards the Talion and descended upon the mech by crashing his knee against the Talion’s chest armor.

The rangers each felt the blow of the attack as if they were hit physically. They mentally “regrouped,” and the Talion somersaulted backwards while kicking Yokoshima upside the head. Before the Thunder Talion landed, it darted forward with a swoop from its wings and swung its Pegasus horn fist blade.

Yokoshima grabbed the mech’s wrist and flipped the Talion over his shoulder, slamming the mech to the ground.

Jason winced as he reached out with his mind towards Yokoshima.

You’re not winning, Yokoshima! He shouted with his mind, which was accompanied by the roar of his dragon.

But I am… Yokoshima said.

Jason’s mind felt as if it erupted into flames as Yokoshima launched a psionic assault. Jason embraced the pain and used it to give him strength. The other rangers did not. They instead cried out in agony, feeling the strike through the link.

Stop it! Jason shouted mentally, launching a psionic strike that exploded against Yokoshima’s chest armor and caused minimal damage.

The giant Vyram laughed.

***

Hayes shook her head as she watched the battle through the stealth jet’s cockpit, watching the synch ratio rise and fall between the rangers and the mecha.

“It’s no good,” she said. “The link is too chaotic…”

Then it happened. Suddenly, the link ratio shot through the roof as the Talion began to glow with energy.

***

Jason felt as if his mind was ripped from his body as his mind’s eye was suddenly surrounded by an endless white void. His mental self-image collapsed onto what served as a ground as he rose to his feet and looked around.

Hello Jason…

“I’ve had enough games like this to last a life time,” he said. “What the hell is going on?”

The end of one journey…the beginning of the next…

“What?” Jason said as he shook his head.

The dawning of a new age…The melding of that of flesh and that of technology…

The creation of a new race…

“What are you talking about?” Jason asked. “Yokoshima’s plans won’t…”

The creation of a new race…

The beginning…

The new journey…

Jason saw himself through his mind’s eye. And he saw the Talion glowing as bright as the sun itself.

Thanks IW.

Would anyone be interested in kind of a closing remarks thread by me? Thoughts, alternative endings, behind the scenes, questions left unanswered, that kind of thing?

Agreed. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts and notes now that it's done. Did you originally plan to make it just one season? For example.
