"Light to Dark."
They were Ninja, holders of the sacred powers of the animal spirits.
The seven most sacred animals in history.
Falcon, Panther, Ape, Bear, Wolf, Frog and Crane had chosen their respective hosts.
The Power Rangers of Earth.
She had practised the art of Kung fu all her life.
The ancient teachings had guided her in her personal life and the role of a ranger. While she was in practise, nothing could distract her.
Not even the knowledge she was being watched.
Max felt a friendly slap on his back. He turned to see Adam walk arond him. "Something interesting?"
"I was just watching Trini.....I'm fascinated by the kung fu katas." he stammered.
"Mmmhmm." Adam mumbled, not really believing him. "Go and talk to her." he said, pushing him forward.
Trini laughed as she saw the Green Ranger stumble forward, nudged by Adam.
"Hey Max."
"Hey." was all the former soldier could mutter in response.
"Can I help you with something?" she said, being unable to allow the side of her lips to curl into a smile.
"No, not really. It's just I...we, myself and Adam, were wondering...well, to tell you the truth, I'm fascinated with you....r kung fu moves. I mean, I know a bit of karate but it's just the moves involved are so...."
"Graceful?" she finished. "Here, I'll show you..."
Adam could only stand and smile as he watched Max embark on his first attempt at Kung fu. He failed spectacularly.
"Oh, he's never going to live this down."
The smile was wiped from his face by the beeping of the communicator. Looking down, he could see that Max and Trini had heard it too and were now on their way to him.
They retreated to the corner of the corridor, gathering around the blue ranger.
"This is Adam, go ahead."
"Adam, we are picking up a tenga patrol within five hundred yards of your location.," came the voice of Alpha five, "They are closing from the north."
"Acknowledged." Adam replied, closing the channel. "Should we call on Tommy and the others?"
Max shook his head. "We can handle it." He checked around to make sure no one was looking. "It's too busy. We'll have to do this the old fashioned way."
The tengas had been itching to try thir new skills against the ninja rangers. On their first encounter, the Ninja rangers had won with very little effort.
This time, they had a chance. A squadron of ten had been sent into Angel Grove park for training. Zedd was of no doubt that Zordon would dispatch his rangers to confront them.
And sure enough, right on schedule, the yellow, green and the new blue ranger were on their way.
"There they are." Adam pointed, putting his hands out to stop Max and Trini.
"What do you think?" Max asked the most experienced ranger.
Trini stepped forward. There were no people about so they wouldn't have to worry about risking their identity. "Let's do this. Ninja Ranger Power, Now!"
Max, Trini and Adam were gone. There stood the Green, Yellow and Blue ninja rangers, ready for battle.
"Let's go to work." Ninja yellow called. Ninja blue and Ninja green echoed her attitude with battle cries of their own.
Again, the tengas proved to be little more than cannon fodder for the ninja powered rangers.
Until Rito and Goldar decided to join the battle. They dropkicked ninja Blue and Ninja green. They rolled instantly to their feet.
Ninja green stepped to the front of the trio. "Let's take this up a notch. We need Ranger power, Now!"
"Frog Ranger power!" Ninja Blue cried.
"Bear Ranger power!"
"Falcon Ranger power!"
"Goldar, Goldar, Goldar," Green ranger tanted, "Ready for round umpteen?"
Blue Ranger and Yellow ranger took up stances behind him.
"I want a piece of this guy." Revolto sneered, twirling the sword of bones.
"You couldn't even kill me right." Green Ranger smirked.
"Arrogance will be your downfall, ranger."
"No, it'll be yours."
Falcon ranger and Revolto charged into battle. Frog Ranger tackled Goldar while Bear Ranger fought off the remaining tengas.
"Falcon Blade!"
Green Ranger's ninja weapon appeared in his right hand, just in time to block the downward swipe from Revolto's sword.
The two went nose to nose-bone. "Give it up, ranger."
"Thats one thing about humans, we never give up. Not to the likes of you."
He had seen Bear ranger over Revolto's shoulder, blade blaster gun mode in hand. "You want me to give up? Fine."
He wrestled the Falcon Blade free and rolled clear.
Revolto turned to be caught in the line of fire of a yellow streak of energy, which rattled about in his rib cages before shooting free. He cowered up in pain. "I hate when that happens."
Goldar had been beaten back by the new blue ranger, who was wielding his spears.
"C'mon," he said as he grabbed Revolto, "We've learned all we have to."
Kim had purposely avoided Max and Adam over the last few days. It wasn't that she didn't trust them, she just wasn't ready to accept that those powers no longer belonged to their original owners.
But change was an inevitable part of life.
She looked up to the sky, picturing a simpler life. Not of her pre-ranger days. God knows what a bitch I was then.
She was thinking about when it was Jason, Zack, Trini, Billy and herself fighting against Rita Repulsa. Then, along came the evil Green Ranger, who turned out to be Tommy and...
...And the rest was history. Change had happened on the side of evil, so why not on the side of good?
It was the way it had happened. She knew it could have happened to any one of them. She thought she was prepared.
She was wrong.
"Hey."
The voice snapped her back to attention. Jason.
The red ranger approached. He looked like he had just finished a workout of his own. "Hey, Jase."
She tried to hide it, but he could see the sadness in her eyes. "It's hard to believe he's really gone."
"Yeah." the Red Ranger answered, "It is. But we have to be a team, no matter who is behind the suits." he smiled as he put his arm around his old friend. "C'mon, let's walk."
Zedd folded the scroll up. He hated prophecies. He had tried to interrupt one before and in the end had only suceeded in fulfiling it.
"You're sure about this?"
Finster nodded. "I know where it is and how we can get to it, sir,"
"Even so, we will need a power source."
"I already have something in mind."
Zedd opened a channel to his personal zord holding bay. "Prepare Serpentera for launch. I will be departing in three earth hours."
Jason and Kim had been in the youth centre a while when Max, Trini and Adam panted in, looking rather the worse for wear.
Jason saw them first. "What the hell happened to you guys?"
Surprisingly, it was Ernie who had answered. "You guys hear? There was a monster attack in the park. The Green, blue and yellow rangers showed up to clear them out."
The centre erupted in applause. Max leaned in closer and took a seat. "What he said."
"You okay?" Kim asked, concern in her voice.
Trini nodded. "Goldar and Revolto showed up with a bunch of tengas. We cleared them out."
"What do you think they wanted?" Jason asked the Green Ranger.
"Honetly, I don't know."
The viewing globe was probably the most vital asset in the Command Centre, except for Zordon. They had used it so many times to spy on Rita, Zedd and any potential hazardous situations.
This time, they were watching tenga warriors
training.
"They were practising?" Tommy asked, sharing glances with Zack.
"Looks like they weren't there for very long." Adam answered.
"Zedd has to have something major up his sleeve." Kim stated, "Why would he send tengas down, then Goldar and Revolto and then pull them out?"
"If I was Zedd, I would have been seeing how well we had mastered the ninja powers." Max answered.
"Exactly." Kim nodded.
The loading bay was dark as it entered launch mode.
"Launch mode iniatiated. Depressurising in five minutes."
The massive serpent sat looking out into the vast vaccum which lay beyond the forcefield. At Zedd's command, it lowered, depressurising the bay.
Zedd sat in Serpenterra's command seat. Revolto sat up front in the pilot's seat. Finster to his right at the navigation console.
"Yo want course one zero eight nine five by three six seven point three." Finster reported, feeding the information through the console interlink.
"All systems check out fine, Ed. We got a green light."
Zedd turned to Finster. "Goldar knows what he has to do?"
"Yes sir, he has been briefed."
Zedd sat back in his chair. Soon, Earth would be his.
The Rangers wouldn't know what had hit them.
Until it was too late.
"Let's go."
