Power Rangers
Last Line Defence
Part 1 - In the beginning there was the Power...
"Alpha lock onto the signals of the morphers," a voice commanded
"Already on it!" The small red robot replied
"Activate when ready"
"Activating morpher recall sequence...now!" The robot pressed a sequence of buttons and the room lit up…
It was a warm summers day in England, well for England anyway. David was strolling through the university campus, where he was attending a summer school. He and about half a dozen other kids from America had come over here to see what life was like in England. He walked alongside a short but pretty Asian girl named Angela. They had just finished their final lecture of the week and were on their way to the refectory to get their lunch before going to pack their bags.
"Well that was dull!" exclaimed David as they neared the canteen.
"Yeah, learning how to make up our minds without tossing a coin, I mean what do they think we are idiots?" asked Angela
"Still at least we're going home today, no more lectures, no more beds with broken springs and best of all no more canteen food!"
"Yeah!"
They walked side by side towards the canteen, after about five minutes they reached the large steps and door that lead to the Refectory. At the beginning of the week the two of them had known each other and since few people had the luxury of being in the in the same situation they decided that whilst trying to make new friends they would stick together so they at least had someone that they could talk to if they needed to. They sat down together at an empty table and started to discuss the week and the people they had met on it. Nearly instantly as they started talking a girl named Kim came and joined them. She was part of the American group as well but did not know the others well as she had just transferred from another school weeks before and still hadn't got around to meeting everyone yet. She was quite tall, just a little shorter than David and wore deep red hair that appeared dyed.
"Hi everyone, how has your day been?" she said taking one of the 5 seats around the table for her own.
"Oh, not too bad, I guess, Angela and I were just discussing the last lecture, bit of a bore really."
"I had a great time on mine, we were in chemistry and got to do practicals wearing goggles and lab coats and everything!"
"You don't get out much do you?" said Angela glancing sideways, joking at the girl's enthusiasm for this subject.
"It's just our schools chemistry departments pretty much non-existent so I don't usually get a chance to try any practical work"
"Hmmm, well ours wasn't quite as enjoyable." With that the three young teens started to recount their days events to one another, each one secretly wondering whether they would see the others after that day, they all planned to since they all came from the same town, Garnet Sands, little did they know that a combination of fate and fortune would mean that these three would become the best of friends…
In the small town of Garnet Sands Laura was stood chatting to her friends, or more accurately gossiping with them.
"So did you hear? David and Angela have gone away to Leeds for a week, together. What's going on there?" she ranted
"I think maybe your imagination's getting the better of you Laura." Said Ms. Hall as she stood behind her "you know that they and two others from this school went to the university on the staffs recommendation, you had the chance, you chose not to, so I suggest you leave those who took advantage of this week to it!" with that she walked off.
"Maybe she's right but I still think there's something going on there," muttered Laura. Ms. Hall hearing this stopped still for a moment turning her head slightly to one side then walking slowly off.
"Maybe, just maybe" thought Ms. Hall as she walked off.
In the towns hall there was a large gathering of people that morning. Many young people were gathered there, which was a change from the usual crowd of politicians and democrats. This week there was a video and war games convention in town and the city hall was the only place large enough to hold it.
At one of the war gaming tables near the entrance a young man named Al stood back from the table trying to assess the situation.
" Come on," the young man stood the opposite side of the table complained.
" I've only been two minutes" Al replied, "Which," he thought, "is quite a long time for me."
He stepped back to the table and started moving the miniatures on the table and resolving their attacks. He stepped back from the table, or more accurately, attempted to. As he did so he bumped into a lady who appeared to be in her early twenties. "Sorry!" he blurted out, "my fault." He turned around to survey the table.
"Do not worry about it, you will make up for it many times over soon enough." The young woman replied.
Al turned around to see what she had meant but she had disappeared.
"Who are you talking to? Get a move on!" moaned the other boy.
"No-one" he replied not really sure himself if he had spoken to anyone.
Angela, David and Kim were sat in one of the lecture halls at the university, listening to the awards ceremony and end of week presentations trying to look enthusiastic. As the last of the students climbed back down from the stage bearing their certificates of attendance a tall young lady took to the stage.
"You've all done very well this week and you should be proud of yourselves for what you have done but for a small number of you there is an extra challenge remaining for you to take part in. If you check the back of your certificates some of you will see a small mark such as this one." She pushed a button on the projector next to her and an emblem appeared on the screen that resembled a lightning bolt broken in two. The crowd checked the backs of their certificates. Most of the group put them back down immediately, however three, Angela, David and Kim looked at theirs a second longer then turned them over, on the back of each of their certificates was a watermark copy of the symbol. This time however, was not long enough for anyone to notice.
" If those whose certificates have the mark could meet me in the refectory after this meeting I have something to show them, you may leave, Goodbye and good luck."
The three friends looked at each other and as one walked out of the lecture halls door and headed straight for the refectory.
They reached the canteen within two minutes of leaving the lecture theatre and looked around them. The room was empty, completely empty, no tables no chairs, no food and most of all no people. Above them a light turned on and that was when for the first time the three of them noticed the second level to the refectory. They found a set of stairs up and started on their way. At the top of the stairs was a door; David pulled it open and stepped inside, the heavily sprung door immediately sprung shut behind him. Kim repeated this.
"Now my turn I guess" Angela said to herself as she struggled to pull the door open. The others had made it look so easy but she was short with a slim build and didn't find it so easy, eventually she managed to open the door and stepped inside. It slammed shut behind her leaving her in a small dark room more like a cupboard than the lower refectory. " Great what now?" she thought and with that a shimmer of light appeared and that was all she remembered.
"… And the winner is…" the woman paused for a moment looking around the crowd, they knew what she was going to say already so why wait any longer? "…Al!" Everyone gave a polite round of applause, they had all got to know him by reputation over the last two days of the tournament although how the woman had known that she need not give his last name was beyond understanding.
He stepped up onto the stage and walked over to the woman she handed him a large trophy. He went to hold it up, imagining it would be a struggle but to his surprise he lifted it quite easily. The woman lent over to him and whispered in his ear "Don't worry the real one's in the back, follow me." The two of them walked off the small makeshift stage and off to a small room just behind it. " Please close the door behind you."
Al did as he was asked and then waited just inside the door. " I don't see any trophy, am I missing something?"
" Nope, nothing at all," she said as she put in the code on a small keypad on the wall. As soon as she had finished a previously unseen panel slid aside on the wall to reveal what appeared to be, well a hole! The woman leaned to the back of the hole and appeared to pull something out. "Here! Catch!" she called and threw the small object to Al. Instinctively he caught it, he had time for a quick look down at the object he had caught, long enough to register it was in the form of a small token in the shape of a broken lightning bolt, and then he was gone.
"Ranger collection complete." Alpha informed the tall young woman as she teleported in.
"Put morpher number 5 into storage I fear we do not yet have the appropriate person to use such power. The candidates should be arriving soon." It was good to see the Power Bunker on full power once more. It was however, regrettable, that it should be under these circumstances. Never the less it was reassuring to know that the earth was not completely defenceless against the threat of evil.
"Incoming" announced Alpha. The lady was glad she'd managed to locate one of the Alpha bots that were so often associated with the keepers of the power this one had belonged to the legendary Zordon before he had relocated to earth. He had put this one into storage on Eltar because "it was too…excitable" but so far she had not had any problems with it. Four beams of coloured light appeared in the room and quickly materialized into four young teenagers, David, Angela, Kim and Al. They looked around them trying to get their bearings and as one their eyes fell on to the young woman.
"You!" They exclaimed as one.
"I am sorry about the false pretences used to get you here but I am sure that you will find what I have to say to you of great interest."
"I don't think we're on campus any more!" joked Kim
"That is correct you are now in the place that we know as the Power Bunker, a place where the Earth has its last line of defence against the forces of evil."
"So what does that have to do with us?" asked David.
" You are that last defence, you are the Last Line Power Rangers." She said immediately looking very pleased with herself as if what she had just said were the most normal thing in the world.
Once she had got over the shock Angela managed to stutter out "…t-t-t-he what???"
"You have been chosen to protect the Earth because of your various skills. A force of great evil is attacking you planet. The evil Repulsor has come to earth in order to conquer it. We need you to stop them. Do you not understand?"
“Ok, first things first! This 'Repulsor' character, he wants to take over the Earth? Now why would he want to go and do a thing like that, huh?” asked Kim sounding more than a little sarcastic.
“Maybe I should explain a little further. Many years ago now the space program opened up a small dumpster on the moon. This dumpster contained Rita Repulsa, who proceeded to attack earth in revenge, she was eventually defeated by Earths original Power Rangers...”
“Ah I get it now, this Repulsor is related to this Repulsa and wants revenge!” exclaimed Al feeling very satisfied.
“Close but not quite." She smiled; the mistake was an easy one, "After the rangers defeated Rita her master, Lord Zedd, replaced her. Lord Zedd continued this attack on earth and quite successfully too. Eventually however another of the lords of evil overthrew him and that is where the story ends for now. About five years later a lone Power Ranger approached Earth from a distant planet. He found the Earths Ranger team defeated and the Earth almost conquered. He gave these rangers the powers of his former teammates. These 5 continued the battle against evil whilst searching for the recently captured Zordon, the ranger's original mentor. Eventually they found him and following his orders destroyed his energy tube releasing an energy wave that destroyed all of the evil in the galaxy, including Lord Zedd.”
“I'm still not following this…” David admitted
“Lord Zedd was reverted back to his original form, a human. However this was not the end of evil. Rita was not the only villain trapped from the outside world Lord Zedd's old…” she paused for a moment looking thoughtful, “When Zedd was turned to the side of darkness he was not the only one. It happened back in the time of the American West when all that stood between evil and the planet was one small Ranger team from the future. A small town was under attack by an unknown alien who turned two of its population evil. These two were Zedd and Repulsor. The Ranger team were able to defeat the alien that caused the problem and the two humans that were turned fled in fear. One, Lord Zedd escaped the notice of the Ranger teams for many years until he replaced Rita. The Ranger team from the future, however, captured the other. Unable to take him back to the future for fear of polluting the timeline they instead sealed him into a dumpster and launched him into space.” She paused allowing this information to sink in to the four teens. Somehow since the energy wave was released he must have escaped from containment and come to Earth looking for the man who was effectively his brother. We must now stop him.”
“Repulsor has sent monsters to attack the city!” Alpha called out.
Angela, David and Kim looked at each other and gave a slight nod, they were all thinking the same thing, they glanced across at Al who also gave a nod.
“OK! How do we stop this thing then?” asked David with a serious look on his face.
The woman nodded and turned to face the Alpha bot who had appeared unnoticed beside her, it carried with it a small tray with four pairs of devices on it, each about the size of an oversized wristwatch with a matching piece of card that looked almost like a credit card. Inscribed onto each of the cards was a small lightning bolt with a split in it, just like the ones they had all seen earlier.
“By the way I am Artemis, this is Alpha 3, and these are your Defence Morphers, by swiping the card through the reader they will grant you ranger powers with which to defeat your enemies.” She walked over to the new rangers with the Alpha bot following her closely. “Al, to you I give the Black Defence Morpher, symbolising stealth and cunning.” He took it from her hands and put the scanner onto his left wrist. “To you Angela I give the White Defence Morpher, representing Purity and Truth.” She took the morpher and slipped the scanner onto her right wrist. “David, to you I give the Blue Defence Morpher, for the qualities of persistance and reliability.” He took the morpher, studied it for a moment and then put it on his left wrist. “And finally Kim, to you I give the Red Defence Morpher, representing grace and strength of mind.” She took it and put it on her left wrist. “Please morph, you will know all that you need in time.”
The four looked at each other and then as one called, and pulled their card through the swiper on the morpher. Each ranger felt a surge of power running through them, enveloping them slowly, yet quickly at the same time. They could feel the suits covering them inch by inch but the whole process was over within a number of seconds. As each suit finished sealing the ranger within it let out a burst of coloured light corresponding to the rangers colour. It was the sort of experience where if you blinked you would miss it, and that's what Artemis believed she had done, it had been such a long time since she had seen a ranger team morphing into action it brought a tear to her eye. There before stood the Earths last hope, she could not explain her passion for this planet, as she had not been born here but here, before her stood who she now considered to be the four most important people to her in the world. They stood there in their ranger suits, each ranger wore their respective colour, as was the norm for the bearers of the power but these suits, as with each of the other sets of ranger powers, were unique in their appearance. They all wore off white boots that came half way up to their knees with a black trim an inch from the top. On each of their torsos was a common pattern, the white outlines of three diamonds connected by their left and right corners containing within the central one another symbol, one that they were all familiar with already, a lightning bolt with a jagged line across it, the only exception to this was the suit of Angela, the white ranger, who's diamonds were themselves outlined in black to allow them to stand out from the white suit. At the moment each of their helmets were identical but as their power revealed itself these, she thought, would become as unique to each ranger, as their colour.
The rangers studied themselves for a moment revelling in their new found power. David was the first to speak;
“Wow! I've never felt anything like this before!”
“Rangers do not forget why you have these powers, I urge you hurry to battle with the utmost of speed.”
“OK guys! Let's go!” called Al.
They each raised the arm with their morpher on it and tapped a small oblong button that had lit up, each somehow knowing that this button would take them to battle, and then they were gone. Artemis looked at the lone morpher that the Alpha bot was tinkering with and wondered, was she doing the right thing?
She walked along to the maths room where detentions were held. She didn't quite know what she had done to deserve detention but she was going to make sure she found out when she got there. She walked past the back door of the maths block and then turned and opened it and walked in, the quicker she got there the quicker it was all over with. She walked down the corridor and took the sharp right turn into Maths room 3. She sat down at the first seat she came to. It took a moment for her to realize that she was the only one there. She got up and walked to the back of the room, and from there into the store room hoping to find a teacher for an explaination. She stepped into the room, turned the light on and shut the door behind her. The instant she clicked the door shut a bright pink light filled the room, when the janitor walked in a second or two later she was gone.
The four teens materialized in the centre of Garnet Sands quickly regaining their footing.
“So does anyone actually know what we are looking for?” asked Kim
“At a guess?” asked Angela, “Them!” she called pointing at a group of figures a distance behind them that were busy attacking the population of Garnet Sands. They stood about 6 feet high and were human in shape but that's where the similarity ended, they had one eye each and were dripping with green puss, each had a single horn emerging from their head and carried a large sword in one hand.
“Hey ugly! Over here!” called out David. The monsters turned around instantly, almost looking pleased to see this new challenge.
“Get out of here, now!” called Al to the civilians, they didn't need telling twice and ran as fast as they could.
The four rangers primed themselves ready to fight, strange really, Angela thought, that they knew what to do, none of them except David had any background in martial arts and she guessed that was probably the case for Al too but now was not the time to worry.
“Power Rangers, Last Line!” they called as one and charged straight at the enemy. They fought blow for blow for a while with the rangers gradually seeming to get the upper hand, and then losing it moments later.
“There's too many of them! They just keep coming!” called David
“We have to keep trying!” called back Kim
The team redoubled their efforts and attacked the creatures again, it was hard work but one by one the rangers managed to fight off their assailants sending them back to wherever they had come from. A few minutes later the rangers stood alone, the enemy defeated, the rangers exhausted.
“Now maybe things can get back to normal!” Angela laughed as she and the others quickly scanned the area to make sure nobody was watching them. They all pressed the diamond shaped buttons on their morphers that kicked them out of their morphed state and back to normal humans.
“Yeah, but how are we supposed to get back to England now?” asked David addressing Kim and Angela more so than Al.
“I'm not sure but I'm sure tha…” before Kim had chance to finish answering the question the four teens were dematerialised into beams of coloured light flying through the sky once again.
Seconds later the four teens rematerialised in the power chamber, the four teens looked around them, obviously more than a bit puzzled as to where they were.
"Hey!" Angela was the first to react, "I thought we'd finished!"
"Rangers, I am sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news. Unfortunately Repulsor is far from defeated, and therefore your job is not yet over. I also have a confession to make. I saw that you struggled in that battle, and it was foolish of me to send you."
"But what else could you have done? We have to defend the Earth or who will?"
"There appears to be a misunderstanding, after seeing your display of determination today I am more convinced than ever that you are up to the task. There is something I believe I should have told you before I sent you into battle. The were not four Defence Morpher's originally."
"So where did the others come from then?" queried Angela
"You appear to be misunderstanding me, I said there were not four morphers to start with, but there were no fewer, there was an additional morpher, that of the pink ranger." With that a door off to the rangers right slid open and a figure clad in a pink version of the rangers suit emerged.
"Pink ranger, it is time for the others to know who you are." she pressed a button to her side that caused the pink rangers helmet to start shimmering, the ranger lowered her head. The helmet continued to shimmer growing fainter until it eventually disappeared revealing the rangers face.
"Wow!" exclaimed Angela.
"Amazing!" said Kim.
"Laura?" asked Al.
"Al?" queried the new ranger in return.
"Wow! It's great to see a familiar face again!" called Al.
"Hi Laura," said David, he and Angela went to the same school but Laura had only recently transfered to their school. "How do you know Al?"
"We used to go to the same school until I started at your school, we used to be the best of friends." Laura explained.
"Still are...I hope!" finished Al.
"So you're the pink ranger? What a coincidence. Artemis? How did you choose us to be rangers? I mean, why us instead of the millions of other teenagers around the world?" asked Kim
"There are many reasons but the main are easiest to explain. You are all pure of heart and mind with the determination to pull through and make the best of any situation, and they, to me are very important qualities in those who bear the title of Power Rangers."
"I guess we should take this to be quite an honour then!" said Laura joining in the conversation at last.
"An honour but a challenge also, you will not be able to forget your responsibility to your friends, country and most of all the Earth itself."
"Looks like we have our work cut out for us." said Angela
"But are we up to it?" asked Kim still a little dazed from the earlier battle.
"We have to be..." continued Al
"But maybe we're not?" said Laura
"Of course we are, we're Power Rangers!" David finished, looking at each of the others in turn, their eyes meeting. They all nodded at each other as one, each placing their left hand into the middle of the group Laura removing her suits glove as she did. Once their hands touched they glanced at each other again before jumping into the air, calling as they did;
"Power Rangers!"
Artemis smiled, she had made the right choice these young teens were the five, they were the Last Line Defence Power Rangers, the Earth's Last Line of Defence against the evil Repulsor.
"What do you mean they were defeated?" asked the figure in the dark. "No mere human could possibly stand a chane and correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you said there were 'no Power Rangers to stop us'?"
"I am sorry my Lord Repulsor, there were no Power Rangers, they were all either in space or out of action, I don't know where these have come from."
Repulsor banged his fist down hard against the wall next to him. "Could it be?" he whispered, "Artemis?"
The End!
(or is it???)

Part 2 - Enter Hurricano
"Hey there!" called Angela as she ran after David
"Oh! Hi, how are you?" asked David, surprised "I didn't see you there, sorry."
"Don't worry about it, I'm fine. What are you up to?"
"I'm off to class, what about you?"
"I'm off down the beach, shame not to on a day like this, besides I thought you didn't have classes this afternoon?"
"Well, actually I don't, I just want to get away from you." he said with a wry grin creeping onto his face.
Angela saw this and gave him a sharp jab in his arm. "And what's that meant to mean?"
"Just kidding," he said rubbing his arm, she was a small girl but she packed one heck of a punch. "I actually just need to get into class to hand some work in then I was going to call by home to grab my stuff before heading down to the beach myself."
"Do you mind if I tag along?" she asked doing her best to look as if she wouldn't get in the way.
"Sure," he said smiling , "I was hoping you'd ask"
She smiled back and started walking towards the French department, David shrugged and jogged to catch up to her.
"So you two knew each other for a long time?" Kim asked, she, Al and Laura were walking along together taking the chance to bet to know each other better. Since they had been chosen to become Power Rangers a few days before the five young teens had been spending a lot of time together trying to get to know each other better. Most of them already knew each other quite well but they had all come from different areas originally; Kim, David and Angela all came from Garnet Sands High college. Laura also came from Garnet Sands High but until a few months ago she had gone to Lower Sands college from where she knew Al . Al's parents were planning to move from lower sands to the other end of town where the Garnet Sands Higher college was situated and therefore it also followed that Al was going to move schools also, normally he wouldn't have been too keen on this but since he had met his new friends he didn't mind too much, he didn't have that many good friends at his current school so had few goodbyes to say.
"Yeah, we'd been friends since kindergarten," Al answered, coming out of his thoughts.
"I was a bit shy back then," Laura explained, "he helped me become a little less timid."
"You!?! Shy!?!" Kim couldn't believe what she was being told, Laura had a reputation at school for being one of the most outgoing girls at school.
"Yeah, well, it was a long time ago now so don't get too excited."
"Why don't we go down the beach?" Al suggested, "I haven't seen the beach at this end of town."
"Yeah, sure." agreed Kim
"Why not?" said Laura
With that the three friends set off towards the beach together.
"Finally all my work for Old Rogerson handed in, maybe he'll finally get off my back!"
"He didn't seem that bad." replied Angela.
"He's not really but after two years with him you get a bit bored of him!"
"Not to worry, once we've picked up your stuff we've got an afternoon of sun, sea and sand!" she moved her eyes to look at him, "Race you!" she challenged mischieviously, a glint in her eyes.
"Oh no, I ca..." David didn't get a chance to finish his sentance before she had run off. She stopped at the corner of the street and waved to him,
"Come on!" she yelled and sprinted around the corner.
'Aw, to heck with it, why not?' thought David as he started to chase after her.
The beach was busy that day, the beach was usually quiet for the area the city was in but today it was difficult to move for the crowds but the three friends quickly found a spot to set up on. Al wore a black vest with black swim shorts, down the edge of the shorts was a thin pink piping. Laura wore a pink crop top and bikini bottoms, over her shoulders she wore a light silk, white scarf which blew in the wind. Al and Laura lay on the beach as Kim walked up to them, Kim was the one who stood out most from the group, she wore a dark red bikini which matched her hair almost exactly, over her lower half she picked up and fastened a light blue skirt that had a transparency that served to further complemented the figure beneath it, she lowered herself down gracefully beside the others .
"Hi," she said
"Drink anyone?" Al asked
"Yeah, please"' Kim said
"Coke thanks, and a burger as well" Laura replied
He got up and made his way towards a small snack bar the other end of the beach.
"Enjoy your swim?" asked Laura
"Yeah, the water's lovely today, you should try it." she said, the water on her body glistening in the hot sun.
"Maybe I will in a bit," she said slowly
"Are you okay?" Kim asked
"I'm not sure to be honest, I mean I'm the new ranger in the team, how do I know I'll fit in? I mean you four've been fighting together for ages. I mean the Power Rangers have been around for as long as I can remember."
"What are you on about? We've only been in the team for a few days. Thats not exactly ages is it?"
"But how can that be? The Power Rangers have been around for ages. Did you not hear the storys from the other places, Angel Grove, Silver Hills and what was that other one? Oh yeah, Mariner Bay! They all had Rangers there for years."
"Hey, look who I found!" called Al, besides him walked a tall male wearing blue swim shorts with red trim around edges and a short asian female wearing an elegant one piece swimsuit with three black slashes across the torso serving as a stark contrast to the brilliant white of the swimsuit.
"Oh! Hi! Laura and I were just discussing where our Ranger powers came from, whether it's something to do with the other Rangers that apparently existed in some of other towns."
"Sounds like something to do" said David
"Besides it looks like it's going to get stormy soon anyway." Angela noticed noticing the dark clouds gathering in the distance.
The five walked into the nearby changing rooms and activated the teleporters to the Power Bunker a flash of coloured light emerged from the small brick building and the rangers were gone.
"Rangers Incoming!" announced Alpha,
"Strange, how could they have known I was about to call them?" Artemis asked herself quietly.
The five rangers materiazed quickly in the Bunker.
"Greetings Rangers, I am glad you are here..." Artemis started.
"Okay, great, ummm, we have a few questions for you. Firstly..." Kim didn't get a chance to finish.
"I'm sorry but that will have to wait, there is a matter of greater importance at the moment, Repulsor has unleashed his Plague Warriors on the city, you must stop them."
"Looks like questions will have to wait," said Angela, "Power Rangers, Last Line Defence!" she called. She flicked her wrist which would reveal her Defence Morpher, then stopped feeling over her body hurridly. "Uh, problem! I left my card at home, no pockets!"
"Me too," Al commented after checking over himself
"Yeah sorry," Kim said.
"Yes this is a problem isn't it?" said Artemis, thinking to herself, "You see, I forgot about todays fashion when reconfiguring the morphers so didn't think of anywhere to put the cards, the important thing to consider now is how to solve the problem. Fortunately all is not lost, I realized this after I sent you into battle the first time and modified the pink morpher to cope with the problem. Laura please press the small lightning symbol on your morpher."
Laura did this and the small, coloured swipe card that would activate her morpher materialized in her opposite hand. "Cool!" she whispered.
"Please, Laura you must go to battle, I will send the others to join you soon, Alpha, please implement the program to incorporate the card collection program to the other morphers."
Laura looked at the others, they nodded at her, she nodded back then called out;
"Power Rangers, Last Line Defence!"
A pink light enveloped the newest ranger in the same way as the other rangers were a few days before. "Wow!" she commented. She quickly recovered and pressed the small teleportation button on her wrist, a second later she was gone.
"We can't just let her go!" yelled Al at Artemis.
"Do not worry," Artemis started to reassure them, "the card collector will be ready soon amd then you can join her."
"Can't we return home and collect our cards?" Angela asked desperately.
"Unfortunately that is not possible, you cannot morph whilst the morphers are being reconfigured."
"Damn it!" cursed David kicking the computer in front of him.
Angela walked over to him and rubbed her hand on his back, "Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be fine." she looked towards a small panel to her left that showed their friend pitted against a dozen Plague Warriors. "I'm sure she will,"
"Eiyyarghhhhhh!" screamed as she launched herself into the middle of the enemy. As quickly as she jumped in they threw her out again.
"Urgh, maybe time for a change of tactics I think." she held her morpher to her mouth, "Artemis, what have we got?"
"Pink Ranger, please swipe your morpher." The ranger did as she was told, the card morphed into a small pink sphere, less than an inch in diameter. "Concentrate on the sphere, it will provide you with the power you are searching for. Ranger, forge this into your Power Weapon."
Laura didn't really understand what she had to do but tried anyway, before her eyes she saw the sphere begun to change, it became elongated, about eight inches long. At the top two struts, protuded out. At the top of each of these appeared a small satellite like shape that begun to spin. Another such dish appeared between the two supports, in this a small pink ball appeared, spinning faster and faster.
"Great I have the power to create any weapon I want and I make a hi-tech slingshot, oh well, here goes!" She pulled her arm back, the weapon started to whine in a high pitch, the ball inside spinning yet faster, she sprung her arm forward, like an arrow from a bow. As soon as her arm was fully extended the ball was released, it tracked in on the nearest Plague Warrior, vaporising it instantly, the ball then bounced onto the next warrior, repeating this. This whole procedure repeated until all of the warriors were gone.
"Noooooooooo!" a deep bellowing could be heard throughout the sky causing the pink ranger to turn her head quickly around her looking for the source of the sound. "Pink Ranger, you have proven more trouble than I can stand, I shall now destroy you and your pitiful city, Hurricano, attack!"
A gust of wind blew through the street knocking Laura to the ground, when she recovered she saw in front of her a monster, who she presumed to be Hurricano. He was a fearsome sight, looking quite like a miniture twister, complete with all of the debris associated with it.
"Oh my..." Laura started Before realising what she should be doing, "Okay, you're going down too!"
"I don't think so!" Hurricano replied in a whispy voice that sounded like wind through a tree.
Laura readied herself for combat, getting into a martial arts starting poise, she didn't actually know which it was but somehow she just knew what to do. "Power Rangers! Last Line Defence!" she called. She summoned her Power Weapon which had reconfigured itself slighty to present a more aesthetically pleasing sight, it was a metallic pink material, the radar dishes were a metallic white substance. She drew the weapon back and let it fly at the monster. The sphere flew through the air hitting the monster and, much to the rangers surprise, bouncing straight off hitting a nearby car leaving a hole burnt clean through it.
"Ha, ha, ha!" laughed the monster as it advanced towards the surprised ranger, unleashing blast after blast of electrical energy at her. Laura started to fall back under the overpowering attacks, she turned and ran towards a nearby side street, she ran as fast as she could, almost becoming a pink blur. She reached the other end of the ally and kept on running. She ran through the gate of a nearby park and on into a small wood contained within and hid behind the biggest tree she could find.
"You think that will stop me puny ranger?" asked Hurricano mockingly. He became pure mist and enveloped the wood, lifting trees from the ground as he did so, Laura also flew up in this cloud of debris. Hurricano returned to his solid form once again, instantly dropping everything he had picked up back to the earth. As she hit the ground Laura dropped out of morph.
"Ha,ha there is no way you can defeat me now pathetic human!" boasted the monster. As he finished his sentance four beams of light hit him in the back.
"Maybe she can't but I know some people who can!" a voice came, loud and clear, one that Laura recognized to belong to Al. The rangers had come prepared, they had forged their own weapons. Al carried a long black sword with a trigger on its handle, Angela carried a long white bow, which appeared to have no way to fire its arrow as it had no string. Kim held an axe that carried a flame motif up the handle she held it with the handle aimed at the monster, which upon closer inspection showed to be hollow, David carried a metallic blue quarterstaff, with a pair of handles, one incorporating a gun like trigger. "Rangers, Ready, aim..." Al ordered and paused a few seconds before finally commanding, "...Fire!" The air was filled with light arching towards the monster. A brief moment of panic appeared on his face before the combined lights hit him, vaporising him instantly.
The rangers turned to face their fallen friend, she was knelt down with her head in her hands, crying;
"I'm sorry..." she sniffled, "I let you down."
Al dropped out of morph and walked over to Laura, "What do you mean 'let us down'? You handled that group of Plague Warriors single handed, the four of us barely managed a group half that size the other day. The fact is that the monster was just too strong for anyone of us by ourselves, your quick thinking helped us to defeat the monster." Laura started to cry harder still, Al held her closer to him and nodded for the others to leave. They undertood his signal and activated their morphers to return them to the Power Chamber.
"I'm s-s-sorry," cried Laura
"Hssshhhh," soothed Al, rubbing his hand on her back, "It's alright now, it's alright now."
"Congratulations Rangers, you have passed your first true challenge as Power Rangers. Where are the other two? Al and Laura?"
"Laura was a little upset, Al stayed behind to try to comfort her." explained Kim.
"It is true that the path of a ranger can be a trying one but it does get easier in time, I for one should know." she stopped, looking mournful.
"What do you mean? Were you a ranger? Is that where our powers came from?" asked Angela.
"I think the others should be hear before I continue," she said, "Alpha, open a channel to the black ranger." Alpha did as he was told and then nodded in Artemis' direction. "Al I am aware of what is happening but I have something to explain to you all."
"I'm not sure if that's possible..." started Al
"We'll be right there," Laura sniffed and then the channel was cut.
The girl stepped out of her hiding place as she heard the explosion, she had lived in Angel Grove for much of her life, and she knew the sound of a monster being destroyed. She had no idea who these rangers were or where they were from but it somehow reassured her to know that she once again lived in a town with a Power Ranger team. She just wished there were something that she could do to help.
"Rangers as I am sure you are curious as to where your powers came from I shall now attempt to explain. Many thousands of years ago an army of evil attacked the universe, one of the first planets was a distant planet named Eltar, home to a long lived race, of which I am one." she paused allowing this to sink in, "Eltarian belief says that for every evil an equal force of good is created to counter it. A group of us left in order to discover this force, some of these forces were found by us. Zordon found a source known as The Morphing Grid. A being named Dimitri found a source known as the Zeo crystal, although she later hid this to prevent it falling to evil hands as she had no ranger team at the time. Ninjor found a source of power belonging to the Ninjetti. And many more of our number found other sources of power. I found a source of raw power, which, over the course of many years managed to forge into a single morpher, that of the current pink ranger. I fought alone for many years until I reached Eltar. Here I met again with Zordon, Ninjor and two other rangers. Together we managed to free the planet. After we had done this we each decided to split our powers into smaller, less dangerous chunks. I personally split my morpher into six smaller ones, only five of which were of any use, these are your Defence Morphers. Over the years I fought many hard battles and the strain took its toll on me. I gave up the use of the power and instead decided to live in solitude on this planet. Once I found that Repulsor had returned I decided that I should resurrect the Last Line Rangers."
"What became of the other morpher?" asked Kim
"Who were the other rangers?" asked Angela
"You will learn the answers to all these questions in time but for now it will suffice to say that the power of the other morpher is for some unknown reason dormant and the other two Eltarian rangers powers, the turbo and astro powers, the Turbo powers were destroyed and the Astro powers are still in use by a team of humans. However the scanners here will alert us to any usage of unexpected ranger powers." she gestured towards a modern, metallic blue console. "All of this means that if need be, and they are in the area, we can call upon the help of other rangers."
"That would be really great," David said, "We, I mean they, well the Power Rangers have always been my heroes, it would be great to meet some of them."
"Well maybe one day you may get you chance." replied Artemis cryptically.
"Damn it!" yelled the dark figure as he rose from where he was seated. "Those power rangers have foiled my plans again, and now there's five of them! Why doesn't anything go right?" He sighed before falling back into his chair.

Power Rangers
Last Line Defence
Part 3 - Let Loose the Zords of War
"Last Line Defence!" the five rangers called as they fired their Power Weapons into the latest of Repulsor's creations, the monster was instantly vaporized as the five coloured energy beams hit home. "Wow, that one was even worse than the last one!" exclaimed Angela as the five teens dropped out of morph and teleported to the Power Bunker.
"Not again?" Repulsor asked bewildered, "The Power Rangers on Spernas were never this much trouble. I destroyed their weapons, their powers and eventually them too. Wait, maybe that's it...their Zords, I never did destroy them! I can use them to destroy these rangers. Now all I have to do is get to Spernas and get the Zords."
"Congratulations Rangers you have once again defeated Repulsor's monster. I fear with the way each of his monsters is increasing in ferocity we may soon see one that we cannot defeat. To counter this I intend to implement the Last Line Zords, or at least I hope it will be possible." Artemis told the rangers.
"This sounds like a great plan but there was that one little phrase, oh what was it again? Oh I remember 'I hope' Now what does that mean, huh?" asked Kim sarcastically.
"Well here's the problem, something I hoped never to have to mention to you. I had a team of rangers in the past who were previously under the mentorship of Dimitri, another Eltarian. This team were based on the planet Spernas, they were the Power Rangers Aqua, a team that specialized in amphibious combat. One day they were attacked by Repulsor who unleashed his Hydrohog monster on the planet draining it of it's water, after this the rangers were at their most vulnerable. The rangers couldn't modify their fighting style to fit the new climate. I decided that there was one thing to be done, the rangers were doomed as was their planet but I decided that Repulsor must be stopped so as a last effort I junctioned my power's Zords to that of the Power Rangers Aqua. The Zords overwhelmed Hydrohog before he fled. After seeing this Repulsor attacked the planet personally, badly damaging the Zords. However after combining with the Aqua Zords they managed to defeat Repulsor driving him from the planet. The zords were badly damaged and were too weak to remove from the Aqua rangers powers, the Aqua Zords still rest on the planet should any ranger team ever need them. It has been many hundreds of years since then and I now believe that the Zords should have recovered sufficiently to be re-attached to the Last Line powers." Artemis allowed the rangers time to comprehend this.
"So why not junction them to our morphers whilst we are not needed in battle?" asked David
"The reason that we do not do something is usually because we cannot," said Artemis, "and this is the case now. You need to go to Spernas to bring the Zords back to Earth for repairs. The good news is that underneath the bunker is the Beta Megaship. This mighty vehicle will allow you to make easy transport to the planet, unfortunately unlike most of the other megaships this model does not incorporate a megazord mode."
"Shame about no megazord mode, might have saved ourselves a trip." said Al
"Nevertheless it may be better to get the zords ready before we actually need them otherwise we could get caught off guard," considered Laura.
"Well in that case I say let's go!" declared David
"Uh-hu," agreed Kim
"Alright, to Spernas!" called Angela, punching the air.
"The megaship is on Level 3, swipe your card on the door to activate systems." called Artemis as the five teens ran towards the lift in the corner.
"Bringing Megaship systems online," announced Angela as she took the seat in the front of the ship's bridge. "engines, shields, weapons. All operational."
"Alright, taking us out," joked Kim, "sorry if it's a bit bumpy, I've never driven one of these things before!" The large double doors in front of them, one up, one down. Once they were fully open a green light lit up on David's console;
"Ok, take us out!" he told Kim, who nodded, never taking her eyes off her console.
The ship slowly lifted off of the ground and moved forwards, out of the double doors which closed slowly behind them. The rangers found themselves in a metallic lined tunnel which sloped slowly upwards. After about 30 seconds light could be seen coming from a large hole above the ship. The megaship flew up towards the hole and through, after another half second the ship emerged from the sea which covered the hole.
"Must be some kind of force-field over the hole." muttered Al.
"Setting course for Spernas." announced Angela as she tapped the course into the console. The stars could see a blue streak flying into the distance.
“And in further news. The mysterious Power Rangers defeated yet another monster this morning. The government still claims to know nothing about where these heros have come from but many believe that the rangers themsel…” the screen went blank and the news reader was cut off in mid-sentence. The girl tossed about in her bed before going to sleep with one thought in her head, 'Thank goodness for the Power Rangers, that monsters the ugliest one I've seen yet!'
"At last I have the Zords in my reach, I can almost smell them!" he sniffed deeply, rearing his cloaked head backwards as he laughed loudly and evilly. He looked around him, seeing thousands of Plague Warriors digging in the ground around him. "Faster, faster!" He shouted manically as kicked the nearest one of the number.
"Approaching Spernas now," declared Laura reading off of her sensors in front of her.
"Dropping speed now," continued Angela
"Raising shields," started Kim, "arming weapons."
"There seems to be quite a concentration of Plague Warriors over what appears to be the planets North pole," David noted
"How many are we talking?" asked Al
"I can't tell exactly but we're talking thousands." admitted David
"There's no way we can take on that many..." started Kim, not needing to state the obvious but choosing to do so anyway.
The bridge went silent for a moment before someone spoke up, it was Al, "Maybe we can, from my readings there is nothing in the area but the Plague Warriors in the area which means it may be possible to use this thing," he slapped his hand on the wall next to him, "to our advantage."
"What do you mean?" asked Angela, spinning her chair to face him.
"Well Artemis said that this ship had no Megazord mode but when I got on board I ran a check on the weapons systems and found these," he tapped a button in front of him which highlighted a section on the nearby schematic of the ship. These are a pair of Laser Cannons, pretty pathetic but probably enough to vape a few Plague Warriors, a few hundred anyway!"
"Sounds like a plan, Angela load that sequence into the computer then join the rest of us in the cargo bay." ordered David.
Al, Laura, Kim and David stood waiting in the bay with the cargo doors open, leading to the ground beneath them. The small automatic door behind them opened and the four turned around. Angela walked through and upon noticing the others were morphed summoned her morpher and card. She ran the card through the morpher and after a momentary flash of white light she appeared as the White Ranger.
"Ready?" asked Al.
"Ready." replied Angela simply, "D.E.C.A. Activate program White Light."
"Program activated," the computer's tinny voice replied. There was a sudden lurch as the ship responded to its latest command and then the ship accelerated sharply, causing the rangers to steady themselves.
"And I thought my driving was rough," muttered Kim. A series of loud blasts could be heard as the Laser Cannons let loose their powerful blasts.
"Rangers eject in 5...4...3..." started the computer.
"Good luck everyone," gestured David
"2...1..." Red lights began to flash, "Rangers eject! Rangers eject!"
The rangers exchanged glances then jumped with a joint call of "Power Rangers, Last Line!" As they fell through the air the rangers drew their weapons and opened fire. Between the joint blasts of the Laser Cannons and the power weapons many hundereds of Plague Warriors fell, leaving their numbers seriously reduced. The rangers landed perfectly on their feet and immediately assumed fighting positions in a circle, backs to each other, weapons poised for close quarters. Al had drawn his sword, Angela separated her bow into two daggers, Kim held her axe in both hands, David twirled his quarterstaff and Laura pressed a small button on the slings handle which caused a narrow beam of pink light to grow from out the top.
David whispered,"1...2..." The rest of the team joined in with a final call of "3!" on that final call the five friends dove into the fray, slashing left, right and center, decimating the numbers of Plague Warriors still left realing from the earlier attacks.
"There are two many of them!" called Laura breathless.
"Just keep it up!" yelled Kim in response.
After a few seconds of fighting everything stopped still for a split second before the Plague Warriors disappeared in a shimmering of green light, the rangers collapsed, exhausted, allowing their bodies to recover. The peace however did not last long. Seconds later the ground started to shake, a crack emerging, from this crack sppilled water, the pressure so great that it burst into the air like a geyser blowing. At the top of this water jet balanced a small sphere.
"What is that?" asked Laura
"I don't know but I think we may be about to find out," started David
Before the sentence could be finished the sphere exploded in a ball of light. The rangers covered their visors to protect from the light. When the rangers uncovered their eyes the eruption had stopped, in its place stood five mighty machines each representing a different creature, a shark, frog, whale, dolphin and a turtle. On top of the frog stood a tall figure, his skin long since removed leaving just a layer of muscles showing with some major bones pushing their way through. The figure spoke; "Kneel before me pathetic rangers for I am your doom! I destroyed the rangers of this pathetic planet years ago and now I shall use their zords to destroy you!" He tipped his head back and let out an evil laugh.
"But that must mean..." Angela began
"That's right white ranger I am Repulsor but you can call me your doom! Aqua Megazord, transform." The rangers stood, amazed as they watched the zords split up into their component parts then reform as one massive bipedal fighting machine.
"Are they our zords?" whispered Kim
"I don't believe so, but I'm not sure." said Angela, she pressed a button on her morpher, "Artemis..." she started
"Rangers, have you found the zords yet? I am still reading them dormant." Artemis replied.
"Dormant? So who's Zords are these? Artemis, we're under attack by a megazord controlled by Repulsor." Angela explained.
"Angela, quickly, what did these zords look like?"
Angela and the others dived out of the way of the megazords left foot before answering. "Not wanting to sound too quick about this one but they're fish!" snapped Kim in reply, butting in on the conversation.
"Fish? I believe that Repulsor has the Aqua Rangers zords, perhaps he has forgotten about your zords. Alpha and I have managed to locate the co-ordinates of the zords, I am going to beam both Kim and Angela to the zords now."
"Ready!"
"Go ahead!"
With that the two rangers disappeared into beams of light flying out into the sky.
"Blue, black and pink rangers, I have just sent the other two rangers to find your zords to fight Repulsors zords, you must find a way to hold him up until they return. Artemis out."
"Hold up that thing?" asked David scanning up and down the mighty war machine in front of him. "Suggestions guys?"
"Wow! Where are we?" asked Kim as she rematerialized.
"I guess this must be near where the zords are." assumed Angela.
"Guess so," muttered Kim as she powered down from morph.
Angela mimiced this motion before saying, "This way I guess." whilst pointing at a hole in the rock face.
"Why do you say that?" asked Kim not understanding how her friend had come across this knowledge.
"Oh I don't know just a guess really," replied Angela, smiling, gesturing around her with her arm at sheer cliff faces.
"Oh, I see!" laughed Kim, "Ok let's go."
The two friends walked on together through the tunnel.
"OK guys what about this one for a plan? On board the megaship I found some bikes. Looking at the markings I would guess that they were intended for use by us, or at least a ranger team, you reckon we can use them?" asked Al, all the time dodging the megazords blasts.
"Hhhmm, speed over brawn? I like it, let's give it a go!" replied David, with which the three rangers activated their teleporters to return to the megaship.
"Huh? Where did they go?" asked Repulsor, he swung a fist of the megazord at a nearby building, "Oh well! Never mind" He laughed as he continued his destruction. "I'll find them soon enough, I'm sure."
A sudden bleep broke the silence, the two girls looked at each other, then their morphers. A new button had appeared on each of their morphers, Angela's in the shape of an angel, Kims in the shape of a unicorn. The rangers shrugged at each other and carried on walking.
The front ramp of the megaships huge form lowered slowly. The moment the ramp hit the ground three figures sped out of it on armoured bikes. The bikes were of a flowing, curved design, the front of each bike mounting the sculpture of a mythical creature, Al's bike bore three heads those of an eagle, lion and dragon. David's that of a large dragon and Laura's bike had a horses head with white feathered wings sculpted along the sides. The three bikes accelerated sharply towards the position of the Aqua megazord. As the rangers turned round the corner of a nearby cliff they nearly ran into their enemy.
"What the heck is that thing doing here?" yelled Laura.
"Ha,ha,ha! Pathetic rangers, you can run but you can't hide!" a voice came from inside the megazord.
"Man don't you just hate that?" asked David.
"What?" replied Al
"When the enemy knowns our plans!" called David as he accelerated through the megazord's legs, closely followed by the others.
"Hey, come back here!" yelled Repulsor as he turned the megazord around.
"Well," sighed Angela looking at the large metal doors in front of her, "where do we go now? The rock doesn't seem like much of an option and we can't go back without the zords."
"What about that?" asked Kim pointing at a small keypad next to the door.
Angela walked over to the pad and tapped a few digits, nothing showed up on the small readout above, "Nothing," she replied, "looks like we're stuck!"
"Not for long," Kim answered, she pulled her swipe card from her pocket and ran it through her morpher, there was a flash of red light and then Kim reapeared as the red ranger. She pressed the axe shaped symbol on her morpher, causing her power weapon to materialize in her hand, she flipped it around to aim the barrel at the door. "I'd stand back if I were you!" she told Angela, Angela did as she was told and Kim opened fire on the door, seconds later all that was left was a hole, Angela morphed and followed her friend through.
"Split up," Laura said into the helmets radio. The others did as they were told and each took a different path at the crossroads up ahead.
"Hey, how am I meant to follow all of you?" the voice came from Repulsor in the Aqua Megazord. "Decisions, decisions..." pondered Repulsor, he shrugged and followed the pink cycle.
"Wow!" exclaimed Angela
"Quite a sight isn't it?" asked Kim not really looking for an answer.
Angela walked over to the pedestal in the centre of the room they had just burst into. In the centre were three small jewels, one in the shape of a dragon, another a winged horse and the final in the shape of a three headed chimera. "These must be for the others," said Angela as she picked up the jewels leaving three more empty spaces to join the two from where theirs had come from. "The only question is, how do we get in?" she removed her helmet, "I think you should put that thing away!" she laughed, nodding at the axe in her friends hand.
"Yeah, I guess so," she said before she tapped a button on the axes handle causing it to dematerialize in a red flash. She walked over to the large metallic unicorn which was covered in a long red mane, covering much of its body, its tail was also this colour. The little skin that could be seen was a white tinted very lightly with blue.
As she approached the mighty zord a panel in its foot shimmered then disappeared, "I'd say I've found my way!" she laughed.
Angela repeated this idea with the tall elegant figure in front of her. The zord was in the shape of a tall, slim blond lady in a long tunic like robe hanging from the right shoulder, in the left hand she held a long quarter-staff. Two great feather like metal wings grew from her back giving the impression of an angel. A door opened in the sandled left foot. The two rangers glanced nervously at each other before Angela spoke, "Here goes!", Kim nodded, silently in reply.
"Damn, why me?" asked Laura to herself as she swerved behind a nearby rock to avoid the megazord's blasts. "Well, here goes nothing!" she admitted before pressing the button on the bikes dash marked 'Emergency'. Once this button had been pressed she got off the bike, somehow instinctively knowing this was the right thing to do, she was replaced by a holographic image of herself. The bike accelerated away leaving Laura behind and the Megazord in close pursuit of the bike. "Time to join the others," she tapped her morpher, "Artemis, send me to the location of Kim and Angela." As soon as she had finished the sentence she was gone.
"Wow," she said, breathless at the site which she now stood before.
"Quite impressive aren't they?" a voice came from the Angel shaped zord. Laura looked around for a minute before her eyes came to rest on an eye like panel on the zords head, behind this panel was her friend, Angela.
"Are these our zords?" Laura asked.
"They sure are! Here catch," she tossed the pink pegasus shaped jewel up in the air. Laura looked around to see where the jewel had landed before she noticed it had appeared on her morpher. She pressed it causing her to be transported instantly to her zord. From outside the light pink winged horse made from the same metal as the other two zords.
"The others are still in danger, we have to help them!" Laura told the others, her morpher beeped;
"I agree entirely ranger however first you must learn how to use the zords, please swipe your morphers now." The girls did as asked;
"Wow, I wish I could learn that quickly for exams!" commented Kim. The three girls ran their cards through the swipe reader on the zords control panel causing the rest of the panel to power up.
"Alright, let's go!" called Kim, urging her zord forwards through the large metal doors that had appeared since the zords had powered up. Angela and Laura took their zords into the air and through a similar pair of doors in the caves roof.
As the zords left the room a previously unseen pair of doors opened at the other side of the room, a fierce flame burnt behind them. The flames slowly transformed into the solid shape of a zord.
Repulsors megazord stood in the valley, the two remaining rangers cornered in.
"Looks like we're stuck now," said Al, stating the obvious.
"Well it was nice knowing you!" David offered.
It was at that moment that the ground shook, from over the cliff behind them bound a great metallic unicorn which knocked the megazord straight off of its feet. The megazord jumped almost instantly back to it's feet priming its left arm cannon to fire just as it was about to fire a white figure towering over anyone Al and David had seen before flew overhead smashing into the Aqua megazord forcing it to grab hold of the assailants staff to prevent itself being knocked flying again. Just as the pair we recovering from the site of this angelic figure a gigantic pegasus like machine flew over them, inside sat Laura who threw the two remaining jewels into the air before opening a channel to the boys;
"Check your morphers guys," she commanded, they did as they were told, Davids now bore a button in the shape of a dragon whereas Als showed the shape of the three headed chimera. She repeated Artemis' instructions to them, they swiped their cards before they were ready for their zords.
"Last Line," Al started
"Defence!" finished David before they both pressed the newly acquired buttons.
Through the noise of battle the heavy beat of the blue dragon zords wings could be heard approaching before an almighty mechanical roar was heard before the dragon landed vertically besides David. As this happened the ground trembled further still, a large mechanical beast, built like an ox but bearing two wings and three mechanical heads, those of a lion, eagle and dragon, each let out it's own unique roar, almost definingly. The Angel zord dove out of the way of the new arrived zords line of fire. David and Al took their cue ordering their zords to fire on the megazord, Davids Dragon let out a stream of electricity whereas Als Chimera let out a stream of fire from its dragon head.
He could not think where the rangers had got their zords from but Repulsor uncovered his head as he realised that his new megazord had survived the blast. He brought his head back in an evil laugh, "Pathetic rangers! Even your zords cannot defeat me,I will now destroy you one, by one, by one."
"Rangers, your zords individually are no challenge for a full megazord, however there is a solution. Your zords have a megazord mode also, please remove your zord control crystals from your morphers and insert them into the slots below your zords card scanners." the rangers did as they were told, as soon as the final ranger had put their crystal in the zords announced the megazord sequence had begun.
The Angel zord gained the wings of the chimera, joined together as an enveloping suit of metal armour, the Dragons large, chunky metal legs covered those of the Angel, the Unicorn's two front legs joined together and covered the Angels left arm forming a cannon, the back two legs forming the covering for the right arm. The Pegasus' wings seperated and grew smaller, one mounting on each side of the Angels head before the tips reached round the back of the head creating a feathered impression metal helmet. Once this was completed the zords combined computer announced; "Megazord completed!" The rangers five seats sped into the joint command area of the megazord which was located in the Angels head. Angela remained in her original position, Al took the position immediately to her right, Laura taking the seat furthest to Angela's right. David's seat went to Angela's immediate left with Laura taking the seat furthest to her left.
"Alright, now we're even!" said David
"The Last Line Megazord? Artemis must be behind this ranger team, it can't be anyone else! Never mind, I destroyed the Aqua rangers and now I shall destroy these rangers too!" he primed the megazord into a fighting position and opened a channel through the zords communication system, "Rangers, prepare to meet your doom! Ha,ha,ha,ha!"
"The Aqua megazord has just increased it's power output by half," David informed, " it would appear that Repulsor is a little more worried now!"
"He's running right at us!" Angela explained seeing both the sensors and the main viewing window telling her this.
"Powering up main cannon," Al offered
"Taking aim," Laura followed
"Firing!" announced Kim as she pressed the button to activate the megazord's left arm cannon. A great ball of energy was expelled from the arm which hurtled through the air before hitting the Aqua megazord dead in the chest.
"He's damaged but he's not out of it yet!" Angela informed the others, "Looks like the megazords are built to last." she said, turning to face the others.
Sparks erupted from the consoles around Repulsor, "Arrrrggghhh! Activate Aqua megazord sabre!" he yelled reveling in anger.
Al watched as a gigantic glowing sword grew from the Aqua megazord's free arm, "Looks ke he still wants to fight!"
Someones morpher beeped before anyone could realize who's it was Artemis spoke;
"Rangers, you must remember that your zords are still not at full power, you cannot afford a prolonged fight, as sorry as I am to say this you must destroy the Aqua megazord as quickly as possible."
"What if we could disable it and then repair it to use for oursel ves?" asked Angela, trying to avoid a total waste of the Aqua rangers history and powers.
"In an ideal world we would but now we can only do so at the risk of your own zords, that is a risk we cannot afford to take, destroy the megazord as soon as possible. Artemis out."
The rangers gave each other a quick glance before settling down to the task at hand.
"Okay guys, what have we got?" asked Laura
"We've got the cannon," responded Al, "which did nothing."
"Anything else?" asked Angela
"Maybe, just a thought on what Angela said about all megazords Being made of the same stuff, well maybe we have a power weapon for the megazord too," he said "Megazord Power Weapon, Power Up!" he called
For a second nothing happened, all of the rangers immediately assuming the worst but just as they were ready to move onto a new idea the zords onboard computer announced "Activating Power Staff in this state may cause further damage to the zords. Awaiting confirmation to summon Power Staff." Al looked at the others, they all gave a single nod, knowing exactly what he meant to ask. In reply he summoned his swipe card and ran it through the reader on the megazord's control panel, "Confirmation received." the zord announced. A narrow beam of light broke through the cloudy sky above, centering over the megazord. A new fist emerged from the cannon arm and the megazord raised both of it's arms above it's head, as this motion was completed a staff floated down in a horizontal position ready to be grasped by the megazord, which, as soon as it was in reach is what the megazord did, immediately taking the staff from above its head and readying it into a defensive stance.
"Uh-oh!" exclaimed Repulsor, "Now I'm in trouble! Time to get out of here! Megazord, activate auto battle mode" he crossed his arms over his chest and vanished into thin air, leaving no trace he was ever there.
"The enemy megazord is charging at us," Al told the others.
"Preparing to parry the blow," Angela said as she did so. The megazord took a short step forward before moving its right hand down to meet its left before swinging its staff round to meet the opposing megazords sword, when the two met there was a large clash of energy nearly blinding the rangers.
"Now it's our turn!" announced Kim
"I hear you! Computer activate megazord staff attack." called David
The megazord took its staff in its right hand, this was soon followed by its left hand retracting to reveal the cannon once more, the staff was then inserted into the cannon which was steadied with its free arm. The megazord computer started "3...2...1...Staff Launched!" The megazord was pushed backwards by the recoil from the shot, the staff accelerated forwards, eventually becoming a barely visible energy blur before hitting the Aqua megazord. The result was an amazing site, the staff drove straight through the Aqua megazords chest command center where Repulsor had been moments earlier, pausing for a second to release it's deadly charge, leaving a hole clean through. Half a second later the megazord fell into its five component pieces, each disintegrated in a flash of coloured light, representing the ranger that used to control it.
"Warning megazord overheating, shutting down now." With that the lights in the Last Line Megazord shut down, along with the rest of the systems.
"Just in time," sighed Laura "Now let's get home."
"Yeah, but how do we get this home?" asked Angela, tapping he fingers on the control panel in front of her.
"I may have the answer to that," Al explained, "as I said earlier I took a walk around the Megaship to see what we had to play with. Anyway, I found a large bay marked Zord hanger, I thought it might be possible to put these in there?" he finished, looking for approval from the others. "Question is with the zords shutdown how do we get them in there?"
"This panel reads that we have enough power reserved for an emergency getaway, if we get the megaship close enough that power might get it inside." suggested Angela.
"Ok let's give it a go," said Kim "David and I will go to the ship, the rest of you wait here for us." David and Kim hit their teleporters and returned to the ship.
As the ship flew out of the system a sheet of flame followed it, the size barely noticable compared to the size of the ship but there none the less.
"Welcome back rangers," Artemis greeted the rangers as they walked out of the Power Bunker's lift, "I see you managed to recover the zords, they are in their storage locations with Alpha coordinating the repairs, they shoould be ready at full strength for the next time you need them.
"That's great but it's a shame that we had to destroy the last of the Aqua rangers powers." said Angela, sounding as if she was mourning the loss of a friend.
"Actually I don't believe that is the case." she gestured to the console showing the active ranger powers, she then started pointing things out on the console, "This space is where the Morphing Grid powers showed up, that is until they were destroyed, then the crystal disappeared, the same happened here for when the Zeo crystal was boosted up to the turbo powers, it changed its shape from that representing the Zeo crystal to one representing the turbo powers, then disappeared when they were destroyed."
"What's your point?" asked Kim, puzzled.
"Here is where the Aqua powers crystal was," she said pointing, "as you can see it is still here, therefore the powers are still active in some form, although I am not sure how. Maybe we will see one day."
"I should have got out of there whilst I still had the zords," yelled Repulsor, "I'll get you next time rangers, I promise I will! You too Artemis!"

Last Line Defence
Part 4 - Rock and bowl
"So," started Kim, "what we gonna do today?" It had been days since the rangers had recovered their Zords and their had been no attack from Repulsor and the rangers were enjoying the hot weather of a Garnet Sands weekend.
"Well we could go down to that music festival that just arrived in town," suggested Angela, "it's supposed to be really good."
"Sounds like it could be worth a look," seconded David.
"Ok, let's give it a go." said Angela.
"Hhhmmm, not my style I'm afraid, I think I'm gonna go down to the bowling alley, that is if anyone else wants to join me?" said Kim
"Yeah, I'll go for bowling," seconded Laura
"So what are you doing?" Kim asked Al
"Think I'll go bowling," replied Al, "got some energy to burn."
"OK, we'll see you later!" called Angela as she and David walked off together.
The girl with short brown hair browsed through the CD's on the stall, wearing her deep red, leather impression jacket she nearly blended in with the rest of the crowd. She hadn't been impressed by the selection on most of the stalls at the festival but this was the best she had found, just her style, modern pop and dance. She picked up a CD that caught her eye, she looked at it; 'The Dreamers - We need a Hero.' the label read. 'Why not?' she thought checking the price '$2' it said. She shrugged and walked over to the stall owner.
"Have a nice day!" he said as he took her money.
'Yeah like that's going to happen with no-one around to spend it with!' thought the girl as she turned around and walked straight into the person behind her.
"Oh, sorry!" David apologized as someone bumped into him, by the time he recovered to turn round all he could see was a girl in a red jacket ducking through the crowds.
"Wasn't that Becky…?" started Angela as she followed up behind David.
"Yeah I thought it was her too." replied David before Angela had chance to finish her sentence, "Wonder what was bothering her? Never mind, lets just enjoy the rest of the day,"
"Agreed!" replied Angela quickly as she grabbed David's arm and started to pull him through the crowds.
"Strike!" yelled the three rangers as Al's ball sent the pins at the end of the alley flying.
"Wow! Three in a row! Well done," Kim congratulated Al, "I wish I could bowl like that!"
"Maybe I can give you a few pointers sometime.” suggested Al.
"Is that offer open to me too?" laughed Laura as she sent a ball bouncing into the next lane which was, thankfully, empty.
"Sure, let's finish this game first then we'll get a lane at the end," Al turned his head to face Laura, "Where your bouncing the ball might not be noticed as much.” He said, seeing the marshal headed their way. At this the three friends started laughing.
"This is starting to get embarrassing," sighed Repulsor, looking down at the earth using his enhanced vision, those three rangers keep beating m... Wait a second! Three? Where are the others?" He scanned the area looking for the other two. "Aha! There they are! So the rangers are separated, maybe this is just the chance I've been looking for, hmmm bowling and music? I have just the plan. Kingpin, Rockstar arise!" He aimed his staff in front of him, beams of energy crackling like lightning from it, eventually forming two separate monsters, the first in the shape of a large bi-pedal bowling pin, the second appeared human carrying a heavy looking electric guitar. Kingpin, Rockstar, go destroy those rangers!" Kingpin shrunk down to the size of a typical bowling pin before vanishing into thin air, Rockstar put two fingers in his mouth and whistled loudly, half a second later a large, green stretch limousine pulled up next to him, he jumped in and the limousine sped towards the earth.
"He always was the show off!" laughed Repulsor
As he rematerialized Kingpin looked around him, he ducked behind the barriers at the end of the alleys, looking for the rangers.
"Aha," he whispered as he reached the end of the alley where Al was stood over Laura demonstrating to her how to roll the ball, using his arm as a guide. Kim watched on amused at this sight. Kingpin watched the heavy blue ball rolling down the alley before crashing into the pins sending six flying. As the machine came down to reset the pins he replaced one of them with himself.
"And appearing on stage now is the one the only, Rockstar!" announced the man on stage.
The crowd cheered loudly as he ran onstage, he held his guitar above his head, causing the crowd to cheer louder still. He was a tall muscular man, with short blonde hair. The crowd went silent for a moment and Rockstar started to play a heavy metal number.
"This isn't exactly my style," Angela had to shout to get David to hear her over the crowd. David nodded in reply and cocked his head toward the door, Angela simply nodded. Just as the two of them reached one of the three double doors in the room two muscular looking guards stepped in front of the door before slamming it shut, the two teens looked around and saw this being repeated at the other doors. Rockstar stopped playing,
"Now for my grand finale! I call this one simply, 'Rock'!" he turned the head of his guitar to point at an excited member of the audience in the front of the crowd before pulling one of the strings on the guitar. A beam of multicoloured energy flew through the air turning her instantly to stone, the two security guards at the back of the room instantly pulled their weapons and prepared to put down the star, before they got chance, they were turned to stone. Angela and David through themselves to the ground;
"Who is that?" whispered David
"Must be one of Repulsor's monsters," replied Angela, "we have to do something."
"But what?" asked David, "We can't let people see us morph..."
The ball rolled down the center of the ally, it looked perfectly lined up to score a strike, but it didn't.
"I'd swear that pin jumped out the way!" exclaimed Al in disbelief.
"Come on, you can't get a strike every time." Kim laugher as she saw her friends expression.
"I know that but the ball was going straight at it." The pins reset themselves and Laura picked up a ball and rolled it down towards the pins. As a stroke of luck the ball rolled as if for a strike and again the same pin seemed to jump out of the way but this time so did the other nine, foot high skittles then started rocking their way towards the rangers. The three watched this puzzled, they looked at each other before, as one, flicking their wrists to reveal their morphers, luckily no-one else noticed the appearance of the small devices.
The two rangers continued to hide at the back of the crowd trying to find a plan that would allow them to morph. David tapped Angela on the shoulder and pointed to the front of the makeshift stage. Angela looked puzzled for a moment, a look of understanding suddenly creeping across her face. She nodded and the two of them started to crawl forwards through the crowd who had, for some reason, yet to realize what was going on. They made it to the front and crawled under the cover thrown over the front of the stage, they checked that no-one had seen them before flicking their wrists to reveal their morphers. David checked his pockets on his deep red shirt and blue jeans before pulling his card out of the later, Angela wore a knee length white skirt and a loose white top that hung over her shoulders by a pair of delicate white straps, around the center of this top was a thin black stripe, neither item contained any pockets so she went straight to summoning her card by her morpher. They swiped their cards through their morphers, changing them instantly into their respective rangers. David noticed the change first;
"You've got a black ring..." he started before motioning on his helmet where the ring was on hers.
"You've got a red one." she replied, "Anyway, enough accessorizing!" she said turning around and heading out from under the stage, David followed.
A crowd had gathered around the friend's alley where many people were watching the spectacle of the moving bowling pins. Just as the crowd had swelled to it's highest point the lead skittle stopped and then began rocking on the spot, closely followed by the others. The rear nine grew suddenly into five-foot high pins, the lead pin took a second longer before transforming into Kingpin. The rangers looked around them, unsurprisingly the building had emptied, the decision was a simple one;
"I don't know who or what you are but you picked the wrong people to mess with!" Kim told the monster.
"Power Rangers!" the three called, at the same time bringing their left hand in a fist sharply up almost to meet their right shoulder. "Last Line!" they continued as they each brought their right hand to the morphers to summon their cards, "Defence!" they called to finish as they swiped their cards before lowering their arms just slightly out to their sides. The rangers suits covered them almost instantly sealing in the almost familiar flash of light. They assumed fighting stances.
"3 on 1? No fair! Pinbowls, attack!" called Kingpin. The nine remaining pins sprouted arms and legs and ran toward the ranger's position, with no faces they were a disturbing sight indeed.
"Let's do it guys!" called Al, as one the three rangers summoned their power weapons and set them to close combat mode and prepared to meet their enemy's charge.
The two rangers emerged from the stage, power weapons drawn ready. As they emerged all they could see were dozens of stone statues.
"Where did he go?" Angela asked.
"I don't know," admitted David, "but he isn't here any more." he pointed at a piece of paper on the stage in front of them; it read, 'See ya later Coward Rangers!'
"Let's get back to the Bunker." Angela suggested, David nodded his head and the two of them activated their teleporters.
"Welcome once again rangers, I am aware of the situation." greeted Artemis
"Artemis, he turned those people to stone and we couldn't even morph to stop it." Angela said quickly.
"The good news rangers is that those people are safe, Alpha has found the antidote already, apparently the Zeo Power Rangers encountered a similar situation once and their solution is on file. Secondly although keeping your identities as rangers secret would be preferable in future I will leave that decision to your discretion."
"Thank you for that but the thing that matters now is how do we stop him." David stopped for a second before starting again suddenly, "Why didn't I think of it before, I'll call the others." he began to raise his morpher before Artemis placed her hand on his arm to stop him.
"The other rangers are in battle also and are not in such a good situation until Rockstar reappears you must help them."
"Alright, on our way." called David as the two ran towards the lift, "We'll get the bikes from the megaship!"
Artemis shook her head, such eagerness, but something was different about them. Had those rings always been on their helmets? She turned to work on a nearby console.
The three rangers were winning through; they had taken down five of the Pinbowl warriors and were working on the last four. Kim put a solid kick to the midsection of one knocking it flying to the other side of the office she was fighting in, it fell, crumpled, to the floor as soon as it hit the wall. She turned to face her remaining adversary, swinging her arm out, hitting the pin squarely in what should have been its head causing it to vaporize instantly.
The third pin was exchanging blows with Al, it threw a punch, Al blocked it, Al kicked it, it countered the attack perfectly. This continued for a few seconds before Al gave up, he pulled his sword and swung at the monsters arms, cutting them clean off, Al took this opportunity and grabbed the legs, swing it around his head before letting go sending it flying into a pile of bowling balls, causing them to go flying;
"Strike!" called Al.
Laura was outside struggling with the last remaining pin, it had hold of her and wouldn't let go. She tried summoning her weapon but couldn't reach her morpher, just as she was out of ideas the monster was vaporized, she turned around cautiously before seeing David and Angela's bikes swerving into a halt allowing them to dismount.
"Good to see you!" Laura greeted them.
Al and Kim ran out into the car park, weapons ready, they took up positions to the sides of the others.
"Let's take this thing out!" called Kim
"This isn't right!" yelled Repulsor, "Where is Rockstar?"
"Right here boss." said Rockstar as he walked up behind Repulsor.
"What are you doing here? Get and help Rockstar!"
"OK Boss, on my way!" replied Rockstar
The rangers charged at King pin one at a time each dealing a few blows to him before being thrown away again.
"This is taking too long," David told Angela before tapping open a communication channel, "Artemis, we're getting nowhere with Kingpin and we still have Rockstar to deal with afterwards."
"Rangers," Artemis replied, "have you tried the Mega Power Weapons yet?"
"The what?" called Angela as she hit the ground after flying back from another attack.
"The Mega Power Weapons, two new configurations of your Power Weapons, you may have noticed the rings on your helmets, although you are at the strongest when together when this is not possible there are two slightly weaker combinations that you may use. Please organize yourselves so that you are with the ranger who bears the colour of your suit." The five did this creating two groups, one with Al, Laura and Angela in it, the other with just David and Kim. Artemis continued, "Now each ranger place your power weapons together with the rest of the group," As Kim and David did this their weapons merged into a new weapon a long handled, purple halberd. As the others did this their weapons merged into a purple crossbow. "Try those out for size, Artemis out!"
"OK, let's give it a go," Al hefted the crossbow, the two girls supporting the ends of the cross. "Fire!" Al commanded, as he did the crossbow let loose a foot long beam of purple energy. At the same time as the others did this Al and Kim grabbed a part of the handle of the halberd and jumped high in the air, they tilted the blade of the halberd forwards toward the monster and flew downward towards the monster. Both teams attacks hit at once causing the monster to vaporize instantly.
"There, done!" said Al as he prepared to power down.
"Hold on a second," Angela ordered him. "David and I were attacked by a..." she stopped as the ground shook around her.
"You are not worthy to utter my name," boomed Rockstars deep voice. The rangers took a short step backwards as the muscular shape of Rockstar appeared before them. "I shall now destroy you all!" He fired his guitar hitting Al dead on in the chest turning him to stone.
"AL! NO!" called Laura, seeing her best friend turned to stone, the other rangers scattered in all directions.
From the safety of the wall of the dumpster he was hiding behind David called out "Laura! Move!"
"Aha! Thank you blue ranger I didn't see where you went," he pulled a different string causing an arc of electricity to hit the bin making it explode. Almost instantly after David was stone, closely followed by Laura. Kim and Angela looked at each other before simultaneously calling their weapons once more; they readied them for missile mode before popping up above their hiding places and taking a shot. As the shots hit their enemy he was knocked backward by the force;
"You should NOT have done that!" he bellowed as he pulled himself back up. As he readied his guitar gun, aiming at the rangers, seeing this both Kim and Angela went for their morphers, intending to teleport out of the way, Angela made it out of the way, Kim however was too slow, the beam hit her, making the fourth rock ranger.
Angela reappeared on the roof of a nearby building, not seeing Kim next to her she tried to open a channel to her, "Angela to Kim," there was no reply, "Angela to Kim, please respond." Still no response, "Angela to Artemis, is Kim..."
"I am afraid so Angela, you may have noticed that the other rangers were knocked from morph as they were turned to stone, I am attempting to re-route their morphers power through to yours, it may give the strength you need to defeat the monster."
Angela's morpher chirped sharply before her helmet readout showed the power increase.
"Alright," she said, to herself," let's give this a go!" She jumped from the building which she was upon, firing the bows deadly arsenal about half way down, five coloured arrows flew from the bow, one representing each of the rangers colours. These arrows hit Rockstar dead on causing him to disintegrate instantly.
"Alright!" called Angela then stopped as she looked around her, the people around her were still stone, she walked round the corner of the building where her friends were and saw them too, encased in stone.
"No, this can't be," she tapped her comm channel open, "Artemis, why aren't the other rangers back to normal yet?"
"As I said before ranger, the monster must be destroyed before the spell is broken."
"But I just destro..." Angela was interrupted mid-sentence as a nearby building collapsed in a deafening explosion, she turned to face the source of the explosion stood towering the nearby buildings was a giant monster who resembled a giant Rockstar but who's skin had become rock like.
"Aha! There you are!" called Rockstar as he lowered his foot towards the defenceless ranger. Angela turned and ran as fast as she could the opposite direction to the monster trying to get out of its way. Just as she got out of the way she pulled her right arm across her chest and brought her left arm up shortly followed by using it to summon her card and swipe her morpher. As a blast from Rockstars guitar turned a nearby building to rubble Angela took the opportunity to summon her zord. High up in the sky above the clouds parted revealing a single cloud floating rapidly downward, this cloud quickly reached head height to Rockstar. At this height a tall, white, feminine figure could be seen bearing a long golden staff. This figure leapt off the cloud and took up a defensive stance; upon completing this stance the figure spread it's angelic wings.
"Angel Zord, Power Up!" called Angela as she leapt into the air and then into the cockpit of the angel zord, when she reached the cockpit she checked all the Zords systems were operating normally. She placed her hands on the Zords main controls preparing to take the battle to her enemy but as she did she saw her enemy leveling his gun at her, Angela realized that she had to react quickly;
"Angel Zord, Halo spin attack!" as she called this the zord raised it's left arm and took hold of it's halo, it pulled it back and let it spin toward Rockstar. The halo impacted with the monsters guitar destroying it; with the source of the spell destroyed the citizens of Garnet Sands were released from their existence as stone statues. Upon seeing this epic battle between Angel and rock golem most of the freed prisoners fled in fear however there were four that stayed, they gathered together into a group. At the front of this group stood a girl wearing a pink top with shoulder length, curled hair;
"Let's do it," she said under her breath, she spoke up looking at the others around her” Last Line rangers, It's Morphing Time!" The rangers summoned their cards and ran them through their morphers before summoning their Zords. From deep within the mountains surrounding the coastal city ran the red rangers unicorn and from a cave within those mountains rose the black chimera both headed towards the rangers positions. A volcano within those mountains started to rumble as the blue rangers dragon arose from it. On a small island, quite a distance off the cities shore the giant metallic form arose from its slumber and flew towards it's mistress' call. Within seconds the four great Zords had arrived at the ranger's positions.
“Thanks for the help guys!” called Angela from her Zords cockpit, “Last Line Megazord, Power Up!”
The Pegasus' wings separated and grew smaller, one mounting on each side of the Angels head before the tips reached round the back of the head creating a feathered impression metal helmet. Once this was completed the Zords combined computer announced; "Megazord completed!" The ranger's five seats sped into the joint command area of the Megazord that was located in the Angels head. Angela remained in her original position; Al took the position immediately to her right, Laura taking the seat furthest to Angela's right. David's seat went to Angela's immediate left with Laura taking the seat furthest to her left.
“Alright, now let's take this guy out. He's caused enough trouble,” said David, with much determination, “That and my necks still stiff! Megazord Power Staff power up!”
In the Zords right hand the Angel Zords staff materialized glowing with a newfound energy. The Megazord took this staff and readied it in both hands to be used in combat against its latest enemy.
“Last Line Power Staff, attack, full power!” called Kim. The Megazord brought the staff down in an arc towards Rockstars head but before it could make impact the Megazord was knocked off of its feet by a low kick from the monster. Rockstar walked toward the zord and stood over it;
“There is nothing that you can do to stop me now rangers! I have you right where I want you!” laughed Rockstar.
“No, we've got to do something!” exclaimed Angela.
“Got it covered!” replied Al, “Megazord Halo cannon, fire!” The Megazord dematerialized its staff and retracted its left hand revealing the circular ring that was the megazord's cannon. Just as Rockstar raised the remains of his guitar, ready to swing down in a deathblow to the rangers themselves and the Zords the cannon fired, a ring of dazzling yellow light flew from it and impacted upon Rockstars arm causing him to drop his makeshift weapon. This left the rangers with just the opportunity that they had been looking for. The Megazord raised its right arm, knocking into the leg of Rockstar sending him tumbling, taking this opening Al brought the Megazord to it's feet and stepped upon the guitar.
“Well, I never was that bothered about rock music!” mused Angela
Rockstar was already back on his feet. “Man does this guy never give up?” Laura explained. “He's quicker than anything we've fought before. Anyone got any ideas?”
“There is one thing that we haven't thought of yet.” Started Al, “We destroyed his guitar which means that he can't attack us from a distance.” There were blank looks from around the cockpit, “Never mind, you'll see soon enough.” He tapped a few buttons on the console in front of him.
"Angel mode activated," the zords computer announced. From the back of the megazord's body the Angel Zords that sprouted growing quickly in size until they were once again their normal size.
“Last Line Megazord, flight mode!” Al commanded, with this the zord jumped high into the air and began to fly using its gigantic wings.
“I think I'm beginning to understand where you're coming from…” said Laura slowly.
“That makes two of us then,” stated Laura before commanding, “Power up Power Staff and initiate dive attack!” The megazord once again recharged it's power staff and this time instead of swinging at the enemy it started a quick head first dive towards Rockstar, the staff held out in front as if a lance. A look of worry appeared over Rockstars face before the inevitable happened, the megazord drove straight through the monster leaving it to explode violently before it leveled itself out, allowing the rangers to observe the amazing sight of the monsters destruction. With the monster destroyed the citizens of Garnet Sands came out from their hiding places and gathered around the feet of the megazord cheering so loudly that even the rangers, up in the megazords cockpit could hear them.
“Well I sure appreciate the attention but guys, how de we move this thing with those lot on our feet?” laughed Angela.
“Well done rangers.” Greeted Artemis as the rangers walked into the Power Bunker from the lift. “You have defeated your greatest challenge to date. I am very proud of you.”
“Thank you Artemis, though I have to admit there were times there that I thought we weren't going to make it, we each used our personal skills and managed to pull through as a team.” Replied Angela.
“Yeah, now maybe Repulsor will give up and go!” said Kim under her breath.
“Unfortunately Kim I do not believe that is very likely,” Artemis replied, a mournful look on her face. “However for now I must. Since creating the Last Line Rangers I have realized that my understanding of the powers that you use is not all that it should be. I am going on a journey to Spernas to collect the remnants of the equipment that I left there all those years ago, from there I shall travel to my home planet of Eltar to enlist the knowledge of Dimitri in finding the secrets of my power. I shall be taking the Megaship to make my journey but I shall remove all of your equipment from it first should you need it, it will be here.”
“But what are we supposed to do whilst you are gone?” asked David panicking about this idea, “What if Repulsor attacks again? What would we do?”
“Although I am confident that I should be back before Repulsor attacks again I am also confident of the fact that you will be able to defeat him if he does without my aid, and, should the worst come to the worse then Alpha II will be here to provide assistance. Anyhow I must be off in order to get back quicker, good luck rangers…” she paused for a moment before continuing, “and may The Power protect you.” She turned and walked toward the lift heading for the megaship.
“Artemis wait!” called Laura, Artemis turned around, Laura bit her tongue, resisting a sarcastic comment, “Good Luck!” she finished sincerely.
“Thank you Laura.” Artemis said before turning once again to the door and continuing her journey.
“Defeated? Again?” spluttered Repulsor, “Oh well, next time I'll just have to send even stronger monsters down to get them.” He stopped for a minute, looking into the sky, before shrugging “At least I don't have to listen to Rockstars infernal music any more!”

Last Line Defence
Part 5 -Flying Solo - Earthworks.
In the city of Garnet Sands the earth shook, earthquakes weren't exactly a common occurrence in Garnet Sands but the locals knew that they happened and were prepared for them. Nearby in the mountains surrounding the city the ground also shook, here however the ground shook harder still, the mountains trembled and the wildlife ran. On the far side of these mountains was a bunker many meters underground, here the ground also shook, a small crack opened in the ground above allowing the light through for the first time in thousands of years, on a small counter inside this sealed room lay a ranger morpher, the sun hit the morpher and it began again.
The bell sounded at the end of the day at Garnet Sands High and the pupils ran from their classrooms and out of the building.
“Wait!” David called as he ran through the corridors trying to catch up with his lab partner. Hearing his voice she turned around and stopped giving him a chance to catch up with her. “Hi!” she replied.
“Becky…” David started out of breath, “how are you? I was just wondering about that Chemistry assignment, are we working together on it or what?”
“Yeah, we are lab partners. Why wouldn't we be?”
“Well it's just you were sat off by yourself today. I wondered if you were ok or if you were just trying to avoid me?”
“Oh don't worry about me, I'm fine, just had to do a bit of thinking.”
“Anything serious?” he asked, concerned.
“Nothing serious, just I've got this operation later in the week and I'm a bit worried about it.”
“What is it? Is it serious?”
“No not really, just a slight problem, nothing life threatening, the doctors say there should be no problem but I've never had an operation before so I'm a bit worried about it.”
“I'm sure you'll be fine.” David assured her, “If the doctors say it'll be fine then I'm sure that it will be. Come on, I'll walk you home.” With that the two of them walked off at a more leisurely pace now that the crowds had gone, off toward Becky's house.
Kim stood next to Al in the power bunker working alongside the Alpha bot as they worked in the bunker to make routine repairs to the zords. Although the Defence Grid would repair the zords itself the rangers had decided that they would use some of their spare time to try and help repair the zords systems and this would also help them get to know the systems should there ever be a problem in battle. It was just as they were checking the Angel Zords staff that the ground began to shake.
“What the heck is that?” called Kim
“Unknown,” replied Alpha simply, “although I believe it could be a naturally occurring earthquake.”
“Alpha, I'm not getting any readings on this panel. I think something must be up.” Informed Al.
“Same here,” confirmed Kim.
“Rangers I believe that the bunkers power source must be down.”
“But I thought that we didn't run on outside power? Don't we have our own power source?” asked Al.
“That is a fact ranger but the source of the bunkers power is that from which Artemis created the power for your morphers. The source of power is unfortunately easily misaligned disrupting the distribution of power for the bunker. Fortunately for us your morphers are self-powered so we will not be defenceless should anything happen. For now though I must concentrate on repairing the source of the power so that we can get systems back on line as soon as possible.” Alpha explained.
“Well I guess that means that the teleportation system is offline as well. Hmmm not much chance of calling a cab out here.” Al mused before continuing, “Alpha, I know that we were told not to use our powers for selfish reasons but since every other possibility is out of the question…”
“I think we can make the exception this time although so as not to disturb the population I must ask you to use your attack bikes to go through the underground tunnels beneath the bunker to the city.” Alpha suggested
“Thanks Alpha!” called Kim as she and Al ran for the lift doors.
“5-3. I win!” gloated Laura as the puck went in the goal at the other end of the air hockey table.
“Best 2 out of 3?” Angela joked as the pair of them walked over toward the juice bar at the other side of the building. At this point the earth started to shake, the crowds around them started running for the doors, closely followed by the rangers themselves. It was at the crush at the door that the girls got knocked over. Angela managed to pick herself up quickly but unfortunately Laura wasn't quite so lucky getting her arm trampled by a rather large man trying to beat the rush out of the door. Angela ran quickly over to her friend to see if she needed assistance:
“Are you okay?” asked Angela as she knelt down to examine her friends injury, the arm was badly twisted out of position.
“Depends on your definition of okay,” Laura said, trying to laugh despite the pain, “If hurting like hell is what you mean then, yeah, I'm fine!”
“Come on lets get you out of here.” Angela assured her friend whilst checking around for any spectators, she saw none so pressed the teleportation button on her morpher. Nothing happened. She tried it again and still nothing, “If I didn't know better I'd have guessed that Artemis was trying to do some sort of upgrade to the morphers but she's not around.”
“Never mind why it's not working, for now lets just get out of here,” snapped Laura trying to pull herself to her feet, “or we might not have chance to worry about it later.”
The two rangers rounded the final corner before hitting the freeway out of town, the road in the opposite direction was packed with cars end to end, a number of people saw the rangers and started to wave at them, Al saw a young blond girl, about his age and waved back at her, she smiled at him, causing him to veer to one side almost hitting Kim on her bike.
“Come on lover boy, save the posing for another time, we've got to get into town.” Kim laughed
“Agreed.” Al said simply, the pair of friends accelerated sharply towards town.
David and Becky were in Becky's kitchen, well more precisely Becky's parent's kitchen but for all they were around it could just as well be hers. Becky reached up onto a high cupboard shelf to get a jar of peanut butter, just as she got hold of it a box of cereal fell off the shelf barely missing her head.
“Wow, close one there! Think you need to be a bit more care…” joked David as he picked the box off the floor putting it back on the shelf, he didn't finish his sentence but froze on the spot, listening to the ground, all he could hear was a faint rumbling, he didn't need to hear any more, “Quick get in the basement!” he called “It's an earthquake!” He didn't really believe that, more to the truth he thought it was one of Repulsor's monsters, all the more reason to get Becky out of the way. He herded her towards the door to the household basement and shut it quickly behind her. He could hear her yelling inside,
“Help…David? Let me out…this isn't funny!”
“Sorry!” he called “but it's safer for you down there," 'wish I could just go and hide sometimes when Repulsor attacked!' he thought, not allowing this idea to get the better of him he set about to business. “Last Line Defence.” He said as he ran his card through his morpher, transforming him into the blue Power Ranger once more. 'Man, why do I let myself in for this!' he thought, slightly amused as he ran out of the house.
He ran out of the house and looked around him, he saw, much to no surprise, that the streets were empty, the residents of the street were probably either packing their valuables or taking refuge in their basements. He stood for a moment slightly confused as to what he could possibly do next, it was then that he heard an engine in the distance; he looked down the street and could see two bikes accelerating toward him, one red, one black. As the bikes came closer he could see that they were the black and red rangers on their attack cycles, he started to walk toward them. As they reached him they pulled up to the kerb.
“Yo, Sparky, power down!” called Kim as she got off her bike and did so herself. David could tell by the tone of her voice and the fact she was calling him Sparky; a name he had picked up from his chemistry teacher, that nothing was wrong. “Alpha says not to worry, it's just a normal earthquake. Whatever that may be!”
“So what's up with the suits?” asked David, a little puzzled as he dropped out of morph.
“Well we were over the Power Bunker examining the zords when the earth started to shake,” started Al, “and the quake knocked the Bunker's power off meaning we couldn't teleport. Hence the bikes and therefore the suits.”
“Aha, I think I'd better go and get someone out of the cellar!” David muttered, a little embarrassed and confused as to how he would explain his running off and leaving Becky alone.
"What? You locked Becky in the basement?" Kim laughed, “In that case, yes, I think you better had let her out!”
“What are those two like?” joked Al
“What? You think there's something going on between them?” asked Kim, seriously.
“I don't know but they do seem to be spending a lot of time together lately.” Al said, leaving the statement open to interpretation as the pair followed David into Becky's house.
“Come on, we've got to get you to a doctor.” Angela commanded Laura.
“Stop fussing, I'll be okay. Besides if that quake was any worse elsewhere all the hospitals will be busy.” Laura replied, through gritted teeth, “For now let's just make sure everyone else is okay.” The pair of them headed up the road toward the school, deciding that was the best place to start looking for their friends.
A small red light lit up on the morpher, it was fully charged once again, now all it had to do was to find out what it was to do next. Somehow it knew what was to happen but was still as of yet unable to do anything about it, so it waited.
“Ha, ha, with Artemis out of the picture destroying the rangers shouldn't be any problem. Hmmm, it would appear that the humans are scared of earthquakes. Maybe I can use that to my advantage.” He laughed. “Yes maybe this will do the trick,
Powers of Darkness I summon thee,
I need your help so come to me,
When the Earth trembles it's ruler shall be me,
Send to here the mighty Digmee!”
At the end of this incantation a crack of thunder sounded, a bad omen normally but given that he was on the moon where there should have been no weather made it even worse. Seconds after the clap of thunder the air began to swirl in front of Repulsor; it quickly began to take form into Digmee. The monster stood barley 5 feet tall, huddled in a ball. It was covered in a black fur like substance with two, long, powerful forearms. It had a long snout, from the end of which protruded six long spikes.
“What? I went through all that for this???” Repulsor yelled, obviously not impressed.
Digmee stood upright, suddenly increasing in size to about 6 feet, showing a hardened underbelly, with a third arm underneath. “DID YOU SAY SOMETHING?” his voice bellowed.
“Aha, now that's more like it! Maybe this is what I needed after all.” He grinned, “Digmee go down to the earth and attack. I need those rangers destroyed once and for all.”
“Alright, but what's in this for me? Huh?” replied Digmee, quickly.
“How about I let you live?” replied Repulsor just as quickly, pointing his staff at the now massive form of Digmee.
“Sounds like a deal!” he replied before vanishing once more.
“Good help is so hard to find these days.” Mumbled Repulsor, “Curse that Zordon and his damned energy wave.”
Angela and Laura reached the school, Angela lowered Laura slowly onto a bench at the front, without one arm Laura was having a problem doing even the simplest jobs, as soon as this was all over Angela swore she would make her see a doctor. Laura turned her head and looked at the gigantic shape of the school, “It'll take forever to search that place by ourselves, can't we just try the communicators?”
“Of course, why didn't I try that earlier?” she tapped her morpher, “Kim this is Angela, where are you?” There was, of course no response. She looked at Laura who shrugged. Laura tried her morpher;
“David, this is Laura.” Again no response, “Al, come in?”
“Must be a problem with the communication system somewhere.” Angela guessed. It was then that her morpher beeped, she answered it quickly, “Alpha? How did you get through on the comm? Neither Laura or I can get through to the others.”
“That is what I wanted to speak to you about. You may have noticed the earth tremors. Unfortunately this knocked off our power source meaning that most of our systems are down. Your morphers are however self powered so that is not a problem, and as you may have guessed I have managed to get the communication system back up, you should be able to get hold of the others on your morphers.”
“Thanks Alpha, see you later!” called Laura.
“Right, now lets try again.” Suggested Angela, “ Angela to Kim, please respond!”
“Kim here, see you got through the blackout alright?” the cheery voice of Kim responded
“Yeah, it looks like it,” Laura joined in, “where are you guys?”
“We're just at the school.” Al's voice could be heard to chip in.
“That's odd, we're round the school too and can't see you!”
“You guys must be round the front.” David could be heard to comment; “we'll be with you in a minute.”
“Understood. Over and out” Angela laughed. “Looks like we just have to wait for them now.” She sat down on the bench next to Laura.
“What was that?” Laura suddenly said after they had been waiting two minutes.
“What was what?” asked Angela, it was then that the ground shook once again, harder this time. “Something tells me that isn't natural!” she managed to finish her sentence, but just barely before the ground before them started to churn upwards and outwards, as if a tunnelling machine was about to rise up out of it. As it turned out there was no machine, just something much worse. Out of the hole came a black ball that quickly rose and converted itself into the huge monster known as Digmee. Laura was the first to react, just about managing to flick her wrist to summon her morpher, just as she was about to swipe her card Angela's firm grip on her wrist stopped her, “I'll take this one, you just rest.” She summoned her morpher and swiped her card; “Rangers! Defend!” she called as she morphed into the white Power Ranger.
“Aha, a Power Ranger! I was hoping that I'd run into you! Now I can destroy you!” Digmee gloated.
“Just you try it!” challenged Angela as she drew her power bow and split it into its two separate daggers, she took one in each hand and ran towards the enemy. As she got within arms reach of the monster she slashed simultaneously at it with her two hands, the monster only laughed at her hopeless attempts to damage it. It grabbed her arms with two of it's own and then used it's third arm to land a solid blow to her chest, sending her flying.
“I thought you were going to defeat me pathetic ranger!”
“And I thought you were going to destroy us!” a voice came that made Digmee turn his head, Laura had pulled herself up from the bench, she looked at Angela who shook her head, a look on her face that said she thought what her friend was going to do was, in her opinion, the worst decision she could make. Laura got ready to morph before looking at Angela, “Sorry.” She said simply, and in a flash of light she became the pink ranger again. Much to Laura's disbelief, and for that matter Angela's, Laura's arm was miraculously healed.
“Must be something to do with the suits powers.” Called Angela as she pulled herself to her feet and took up a position next to her friend who had drawn her weapon and put it into combat mode. “Now let's take this guy out!”
"What and hog all the glory? I should have guessed Repulsor had something to do with this," a voice came from behind them, the girls recognized it to be that of Kim.
“Good to see you guys, want to join in?” Laura called
“Wouldn't mind! Rangers,” she said, looking around her before shouting, “Last Line…Defence!” Coloured flashes of light enveloped the rangers and they emerged as the red, blue and black Power Rangers, they also followed the lead of the other rangers by drawing their weapons ready for combat and took up positions to the flanks of the other rangers.
“Come on stop wasting time!” the monster growled and let loose a volley of electrical blasts at the rangers, although their suits prevented the worst of the damage they were still knocked flying onto their backs.
“Forget this, I have more important things to do than play around with Repulsor's latest crony, activate Mega Power Weapons!” David called as he got back to his feet. Kim and David summoned their halberd whilst the other three called upon the crossbow. They took up attack positions to wither side of the monster and attacked, the trio fired an energy bolt towards the monster whilst the duo sliced at him with the halberd. Miraculously the monster survived, although loosing two limbs in the process. He looked at his two severed arms and panicked;
“Grrrr, I'll get you rangers, just you wait and see! I'll be back!” with that Digmee swirled and disappeared, taking his severed limbs with him.
“Rangers, power down.” Commanded Al, the ranger's suits disappeared in a sparkle leaving the rangers in their plain clothes.
“Well that was easier than I thought it was going to be!” exclaimed Angela.
“Yeah but remember what he said, 'I'll be back' sounded like he meant it…” reminded Laura.
“That just leaves one thing to check on,” said Angela, tapping her communicator, “Alpha, do we have systems back on yet?”
“Rangers, as you know we have communications back online, and we also have the ability for you to summon your attack cycles. Currently anything requiring any more power is offline, such as zords and teleportation systems, although I am currently working on getting the Zords back online should anything happen.” Alpha responded.
“Well we just took out Repulsor's monster but he disappeared before we could destroy him completely.” David told Alpha.
“What did this monster look like?” asked the robot.
“Well he was tall, kind of mole like and had three arms,” Al explained, “Oh yeah, he even managed to stand up to our Mega Weapons.”
“Rangers, I believe that you have encountered Digmee,” Alpha said, sounding, as close to panicking as a robot could, “He is one of Repulsor's most resilient monsters Please call your bikes and return to the Power Bunker.
As the rangers pulled into the bunker Alpha opened the nearby door and walked in, “Rangers, I am not certain as to what we should do in this situation and as I have been unable to get through to Artemis we have to improvise. I feel it is my grim duty to inform you that Digmee has a reputation throughout the galaxy for his extreme power, he managed to destroy the Spernas rangers, that is the Power Rangers Aqua's, original set of zords, those which you fought previously were a replacement team. He also managed to destroy the command centre of the Aquitian rangers, although the good news is that he has not yet been able to destroy a complete ranger team, this means that there is some hope for us yet.”
“Alpha we need those zords online as soon as possible. If Digmee was to return and we don't have them…” Al didn't even have to finish the sentence; Alpha and the others around knew exactly what he meant.
“Unfortunately rangers I fear that even if we get your zords online I am not sure as if they will have the power to destroy him.”
“We have to try anyway…” started David, “we can't let him keep making these earthquakes, or he'll destroy the city.”
The morphers sensors registered the other five morphers had been activated; the sequence started but was incomplete. It still needed the final call, the final signal.
"…Class Dismissed." Said Ms. Foster, sounding exhausted. After a double period of practical work, along with all of the accompanying disasters such as broken test tubes, burns from boiling water and Bunsen burners alike and of course acid burning through the desk, and she knew that she would be doing it all over again the next day.
"I can't believe you did that!" laughed Becky, punching David hard on the arm.
"How was I meant to know that she was stood behind me? Besides it was her fault that she spilt the acid on the desk!"
"Ms. Foster doesn't seem to agree with you!"
"Yeah, well teachers never do agree with anyone do they?" interrupted Al as he caught up alongside them.
"Oh hi there!" greeted David, "How was…" he paused for a minute forgetting what lesson it was his friend had just had.
"Geography?" Al finished, "Same old. Nothing new, everything's still where it's been for hundreds of years!"
"Come on, let's go down The Shack and get something to eat." Suggested Becky.
David looked at Al, "What do you think?" he asked.
"Nah, I think I'll leave you to it. I have to go by and pick up Angela from Sociology, Laura from English and Kim from Maths. I'll catch up with you later."
"Never mind, we'll come with you!" chirped in Becky and started walking off towards the schools Sociology department. Al shrugged at David and the two followed their friend.
“What do you mean by returning here a failure?” yelled Repulsor as Digmee stood straight before him.
“Well Boss, if I'd not gone then they'd have destroyed me and then I'd never manage it,” he replied quickly, “I need a little more support down there, it'll take me forever to take down all five by myself. Let me take a couple more monsters with me and we'll finish them for good!”
“Fine, take a team of Plague Warriors down with you and destroy those accursed Power Rangers!” replied Repulsor.
“Actually…” replied Digmee timidly, “I was thinking more along the lines of, well, something a bit larger?”
“I think I see where you are coming from.” Replied Repulsor, “Take yourself down to the city with Airhead and attack.”
“Thank you, Lord Repulsor, Sir.” Grovelled Digmee, before vanishing to the city.
Al's wrist beeped in the distinctive form that told that there was a communication from the Power Bunker incoming. All of the group, David, Al, Becky, and now Laura, Kim and Angela turned their heads to look.
“What was that? Asked Becky puzzled.
“That?” stumbled Angela, not sure how to explain it, “That was, ummm, his watch alarm!”
“What watch? I can't see any watch, there's nothing on his wrist.”
“Yes,” Al interrupted, trying to save Angela the inconvenience of having to explain, “it's a new thing, from Japan, small devices, implant a chip into your wrist and it reminds you to check this…” he fumbled around in his bag for a minute before pulling out a tatty looking notepad.
“Alllright!” said Becky slowly, “if you say so!”
“Yeah, I just have to go off and…check this.” Al walked briskly off into a small corner and pretended to check through his notepad whilst listening to Alpha's message on his morpher.
“is he always this weird?” asked Becky
“Believe me,” Kim said placing her hand on Becky's shoulder, “for a day with us this is normal.” Becky opened her mouth to say more but was cut off before she got chance by Al rushing back in.
“Sorry guys but I really have to go. That message was to remind me to look at my Greek alphabet, I keep forgetting what ALPHA means.”
“Oh yeah, we agreed we'd help you with that!” Laura said quickly.
David turned to face Becky, “Look I'm really sorry I have to go, we made these plans ages ago…”
“It's okay,” she replied shortly, trying her best not to look disappointed, “I understand friends come before me.” She turned and walked off quickly, not turning around again.
Al placed a hand on David's shoulder, “Come on we have to go,” he said quietly, “she'll understand this a lot more than she would if we hadn't gone.”
“Yeah, I guess,” replied David, “I still feel guilty though.”
“It'll be okay,” Al, replied trying to finish the self-pity, “Anyway, Alpha said that he has teleportation back online so we have all the basics we need.”
“Right, lets go!” Kim commanded, holding the door to the nearest empty classroom open, the five walked in, there was a flash of light through the classroom's frosted window and the five were gone.
Becky rounded the corner of the corridor to find the corridor empty; she slumped down next to her locker and held her head in her hands. 'Why do people always try to get rid of me?' she asked herself before breaking down into tears. It was then that she heard a faint electrical crackle before her form was silhouetted on the wall in front of her by a flash of orange-yellow light, this caused her to look around, she quickly realised that the source of this light was her locker, she stood and opened it.
“Ha, ha! You came back for more did you? I knew that you couldn't resist the challenge, so I thought, just in case, I would bring some support with me.” Gloated Digmee. A flash of light appeared and the form of Airhead appeared.
“What?” panicked Angela, “Alpha said we would have problem enough with just Digmee. Why does he need help?”
“Here, catch this.” Called Digmee as he tossed a small vial to airhead who proceeded to drink the contents of the vial, Digmee did the same, “It'll give you a boost!”
“Uh-oh!” said Laura simply as she stood and watched the pair of monsters grow to titanic proportions.
David stepped forwards through the rest of the awestruck team and called, “Blue Dragon power, now!” A second later the gigantic form of his zord flew above; he jumped high and entered the cockpit. “Zord systems online, blue lightning attack!” he called as he pressed a panel on the zords controls. An arc of electricity flew through the air before impacting with both of the monsters, sparks arose from the impact but both of the monsters were left unharmed.
By now the other rangers had recovered their senses and had called their zords. “Ok guys, let's give him a hand!” spoke Kim into the comm system, the four remaining zords added their considerable firepower to the attack, this time causing the two to fall to their feet. “Alright! Initiate Megazord Sequence, now!” The zord began the usual sequence that would form the classic bipedal form of the Power Ranger's megazord.
Once the zord was formed David called, “Megazord Staff, power up!” The Angel zords staff flew down from orbit landing just in front of the megazord, which proceeded to grab hold of it, and took it in both arms.
“Now, we stand a chance!” called Angela
“Let's hope so…” whispered Laura.

Power Rangers
Last Line Defence
Part 6 -Flying Solo - Solar Strikes
Dedicated to the memory of the late Thuy Trang. The original yellow ranger, Trini, and still the best.
The zord swung its staff in a wide arc; it managed to clip the arm of Airhead causing him to fall to the floor in pain.
“This isn't going as bad as I expected.” Admitted Laura as she commanded the zords arm upwards and brought it in front of the head to protect from a blow from Digmee's central arm.
“Don't get too sure yet,” advised Al, “this could still go either way.” As if he had been beckoning fate Airhead's leg swung round underneath the Megazords legs as it got up, knocking the gigantic machine to the floor.
“What were you saying pink ranger?” laughed Digmee, as he stood atop the megazord with his arms ready to deliver the killing blow.
“I was saying we are going to defeat you and your mate!” she repeated before hitting a button on the panel, “Halo Cannon fire.” The megazord dropped it's staff and retracted an arm allowing the cannon to lock into position before letting loose a ring of yellow energy which hit Digmee squarely in the chest knocking him off of them. The megazord stood up and put its arms into a classic defensive position. Al looked around him and seeing both of his enemies incapacitated took the opportunity to swing the battle in his favour;
“Angel Wing mode, now!” he called, the Angels wings sprouted from its back and the megazord took to the air, “Cannon fire now!” The zord raised it's arm and supported it on it's free one, took aim at Airhead and opened fire. Three rings of light flew from the zords arm and hit the monster one at a time, the third causing the final damage, resulting in an explosion that could be seen for far around.
“You may have destroyed him,” a voice came from behind them, “but look what I have!” The rangers turned to see Digmee holding the Angel Staff.
“Oh no!” exclaimed Angela.
“Give that back!” called Kim
“You want it? Here, have it!” he threw the staff as a spear toward the zord, which, in vain, tried to catch it, unfortunately it failed, the staff making contact with the megazords chest. Panels exploded around the rangers,
“Eject Guys!” called David as an explosion knocked him out of morph. The five rangers fell down to the ground and ran as their zord came toppling down after them, falling into its separate components as it did so.
“We can't give up! Rangers, Defend!” called Al he swiped his morpher, in unison with the others and waited, nothing happened, “He must have knocked off our morphing power with that last blow, we can't morph!”
“What now?” whispered Kim as she saw their zords destruction in front of her. It was at that point that she heard it. It was a strange sound, sort of like a giant hawks shrieking, she, and the other rangers turned to follow the source of the noise, it was Angela who saw it first,
“What's that?” she asked, pointing skywards.
“I don't know, I just hope it's on our side!” replied David, what they saw was another zord, this one, about the same size as the Angel Zord resembled the Phoenix of legend, it was brightly coloured with reds, yellows and oranges adorning the metal feathers. It swooped in low over the surrounding buildings, heading straight for Digmee. As the bird swung over the rangers and the stricken zords something completely unexpected happened, from its tail a sheet of flame flew, it hit the rangers first. They covered their heads, fearing for their lives, instead of flame grilling them however it did quite the opposite, they felt their bodies change and when they looked out again they saw that they had re-morphed.
“What the…?” asked Kim, completely puzzled.
“That's not all.” Stated David as he pointed towards the sheet of flame fallen upon the zords, they had been completely repaired and were now stood in their five separate creature forms. The Phoenix continued to fly over the battlefield and dropped further flames on top of Digmee. He looked around him as the flames hit, he was obviously in great pain, a second later he exploded and disappeared. Before the rangers had time to realize what had happened the zord flew off into the distance.
“What was that?” asked Angela.
“I don't know, but I know someone who might…” David said as he powered down. The others nodded and pressed their teleporters to return to the Power Bunker.
“Wow,” exclaimed Becky as she picked the mysterious item out of her locker and examined it, it was like nothing she had ever seen before. It was a small device of some sort, mounted upon a wrist strap. It was about the size of a wristwatch, maybe a little bigger. It was in the shape of a broken lightning bolt; on it were a number of small, irregular shaped jewels. 'This looks expensive, maybe I ought to hand it in to the office,' she thought, 'but then again, it was in my locker so maybe I'll just borrow it for a bit first.” She looked around her, noticing nobody was there, before slipping it on her wrist, she vanished in a beam of light.
“Hmm, that is odd. Six rangers incoming?” Alpha said to himself, “Maybe I'm needing to check my memory cards but last thing I remember there were only five rangers.”
It was then that five of those rangers materialized in the bunker. Kim was the first to speak, “Alpha, we defeated Digmee but there was another Zord.” She blurted.
“And another ranger to go with it I believe.” Finished Alpha, there is a teleportation signature incoming.
“Could it not be Artemis?” asked Al
“Unfortunately not, she was in contact this morning as is still on Spernas. However we are about to find out,” he said, seeing a light appear on a console next to David. The rangers cleared the area that they always beamed into and drew their weapons, just in case. It was just then that an extremely perplexed looking young girl appeared.
“Becky?” asked David, surprised.
“W-w-what is this place?” she panicked stepping backwards away from the rangers. David dropped out of morph and took a step towards her.
“Hey, hey, calm down. You're safe here. How did you get here?”
“I just put this on…” she started gradually breaking down into tears as she did, “I found it in my locker, I was going to hand it in but…” The other rangers dropped out of morph. Laura walked over to Becky and examined the device.
“Alpha, this looks like a morpher, but how could it get into Becky's locker?” she asked.
Alpha studied it closely before running a visual analysis on the morpher on the bunkers computer system. Half a second later the computer beeped and Alpha pressed a button. In it's tinny voice the computer announced, “Last Line Solar Morpher. No further information available, by command of Artemis.”
“Could it be?” asked Angela, “That this is the sixth morpher that Artemis was on about. That somehow it repaired itself and is now functional?”
“It would appear that that is the case.” Agreed Alpha inputting some information into another console. “I am sending Artemis a message to inform her of this incident and asking for more information.”
“Look, Becky, I know this is going to be hard to take in,” David paused, looking for the easy way to break the news to his friend, and then, deciding there wasn't one, said, “You're a Power Ranger.”
“A what?” asked Becky, looking up from her sorrow.
“Come on, surely you must have known when you summoned your zord.” Confronted Laura.
“My what?”
“Your Zord, the giant Phoenix robot thing?” Al informed her.
“I really don't know what you're on about.” Becky confirmed.
“Rangers, I believe that the Solar Morpher was automated in its search for Becky, I believe that the Phoenix zord may also have been automated also.” Alpha chipped in, "It is quite possible that it followed your ship back from Spernas when you got your own zords."
“Well, that could explain it,” said David.
“So what does it mean? This being a Power Ranger?” asked Becky.
Angela looked at the morpher again before pointing to a button, “Try that one,” she said. Becky did as she was told, she felt the suit enveloping her and it sealed itself with a flash of orange light. "Wow!" exclaimed Becky.
"Well don't we look different?" kidded Kim as she eyed up Becky's suit. It was made of a material identical to the other rangers but the design of this was different, the visor was narrow, with a slight triangular design to the bottom. There was a simple lightning design on the left of the chest, the helmet was pure yellow, fading down slowly toward the feet that were, in contrast pure red.
"Rangers, I am detecting a number of Plague Warriors in 3 cities, Garnet Sands, Mariner Bay and Angel Grove. You must deal with them immediately.” Alpha interrupted.
“OK guys, let's do it! Angela, Kim, you take Garnet Sands, Al, Laura, you go to Angel Groves, I'll take Mariner Bay.” He commanded, he grabbed his swipe card, “Rangers, Defend!”
“WAIT!” called Becky, as the others were about to leave, “What about me? Where am I going?”
“Becky, you don't know what you're doing. You've only just got your powers…” David tried to explain as the others left.
“I don't care, I want to go anyway. Take me with you.” David looked at Alpha who simply nodded.
“Ok then, lets go, press that button and think of where you want to go.” Said David pointing to a button on Becky's morpher. She pressed it at the same time as David and they were gone.
“There they are!” called Kim as she and Angela settled down on Garnet Sands beach.
“Alright, lets, do it!” seconded Angela as she readied herself for battle, then they attacked.
“Wow, what a mess!” commented Al as he picked his way over the rubble to the other side of the hill they stood on. He slipped on a particularly large piece of rubble causing it to slip down the side of the slope. A magnificent light appeared from a number of coloured crystals under it, he put his hand over his eyes.
“Come on, we have to hurry.” Reminded Laura as she lifted a slab of rock and placed it over the magnificent lights.
“Agreed.” The two of them continued their advance and walked to the top of the cliff where they saw the Plague Warriors, they drew their weapons.
“Well, it's been a long time since I've been here.” David stated.
“What? Did you use to live here?” asked Becky, a little confused
David laughed, “No, nothing like that! I used to have a friend called Dana Mitchell, she moved away from Garnet Sands when I was about five, her Dad got some sort of job with the government here and I came to visit her once, when she and I were about 12. Hey Becky, are you listening?”
“Huh?” asked Becky as her attention was brought again to David, “Sorry, but look over there.” She said, pointing over towards the group of Plague Warriors, a couple of miles away.
“What? I can't see anything!” David told her.
“It's the Plague Warriors, and there's something else there as well, but I can't quite tell what.”
“Hmm I guess that your suit must give you enhanced vision as well, let's get over there.” The two started running.
Back at Garnet Sands beach Kim and Angela had pretty much defeated their group of Plague Warriors.
“There, done!” commented Kim as she knocked out the last.
“You think so do you ranger?” a voice came from above, one that the rangers now recognised to be Repulsor, “See how you deal with me!” he challenged as he materialized in front of them.
Becky and David finally reached the Plague Warriors, but that was not all that they had reached. They also found something that took them completely by surprise, a bundle of six teens being surrounded by the Plague Warriors.
“Strange,” commented David, “Plague Warriors have never taken hostages before. Hey you guys, pick on someone else!” he called at the Plague Warriors. They turned around and faced towards him, he drew his weapon and took a shot at them, they ran towards him and Becky. “ You ready for this?” he asked her.
“I hope so,” she said as she drew her own weapon, a wrist mounted weapon appeared, on this wrist launcher appeared a razor sharp ring, another layer to the weapon appeared on top of this, the ring was covered with a layer of sharp red feathers, she fired it, it flew towards the enemy, it took out an enemy and returned to her hand, she laughed, “Let's do it!”
The male in red turned to the others, “Man who are these guys? We couldn't even lay a scratch on them!”
The girl in pink spoke up, “Does it really matter? We have to help.” She stood up, closely followed by the other teens. She pushed her arms in front of her and twisted them so her right hand went for a wrist mounted device, “Lightspeed, rescue!” she called and the six activated their devices. Flashes of light covered the teens, red, blue, green, yellow, pink and grey and they appeared as Power Rangers.
“Ok guys, lets get to it!” called the teen clad in the teen in red called out, “Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, Attack!”
David and Becky turned to see their new assistants. “The hell?” called David, “Why didn't Alpha warn us?”
“What? How could he have?” called back Becky.
“We have a device in the bunker that shows us any active ranger teams within its range, which, theoretically is the whole planet!”
“Don't worry about that, just fight!” called the girl in yellow as a Plague Warrior knocked her down.
“Don't you guys have any weapons?” asked David.
“Of course! Why didn't we think of that?” asked the green ranger, tapping his morpher, “Ms. F., send in the Rescue-bird!” A mechanical contraption about three feet in length flew in and the green ranger caught hold of it.
“I'd suggest you guys stand back,” the red ranger told them, thinking back to the test flight of the MAV, "we've had some problems with this thing in the past!”
The rangers each helped support part of the weapon as the grey ranger called out “FIRE!” as he fired from an axe he held in his hands. The bursts of energy from the two weapons hit the group of monsters centrally resulting in a massive explosion that sent parts of the creatures flying, when the dust settled not one remained.
“Thanks guys we couldn't have done it without you.” The pink ranger said, shaking David's hand, “But who are you?”
“Well I suppose it wouldn't hurt for you to know. After all you're rangers too. How 'bout we both power down?” David suggested, the other rangers nodded and went to power down, a surprise awaited David. “Dana?” he asked, surprised.
“David?” asked the former pink ranger in reply, she ran over and embraced her old friend, “It's been a long time hasn't it?”
“It has, it's good to see you again. What've you been up to?” he asked as she let him go, “What've you been doing with yourself?”
“Well I finished at high school, I managed to finish my courses a few months early, I was ahead of the rest of the class and the teachers suggested that I take the exams early. I was going to go on for my final year, but then my Dad made me this offer,” she paused, getting her breath, “He said that the organisation he worked for known as 'Lightspeed Rescue' was looking to train people as doctors, so I finished my final year using the Lightspeed facilities. Once that was done and I had finished my basic training and was about to start as a medic at Lightspeed when something happened.”
“What was that?” David asked, slightly confused.
“A group of nomads travelling across the nearby desert opened up an ancient tomb inside which were trapped a number of demons. These demons once ruled the area that is now Mariner Bay, and they vowed revenge on all of those that had taken their land. Fortunately however this was what my fathers organisation was designed for in the first place.” She paused, considering the look on David's face, “Of course I wasn't aware of this at the time, neither were any of the other members, just my father and our technician Ms. Fairweather. We recruited four rangers, Chad, Joel, Carter and Kelsie. Once they were given their ranger powers my father also told me that I as to be the fifth ranger. Ryan joined us a few weeks later.”
“Wow, it seems like you've been busy!” he said, surprised by his friends tale.
“Well that's just the short story, we ought to get together sometime and go into more detail, about both of us.” Becky turned, embarrassed on intruding on the old friends conversation.
David's morpher bleeped, half a second later so did the Lightspeed rangers, and each turned away and answered their call.
“Yes Alpha,” David replied.
“David, is Becky there with you? We have a very serious situation. Repulsor has just materialized in Garnet Sands and appears to be looking for a fight, we need you and the others here as soon as possible.” The robot replied.
“On our way.” David replied, turning back to the others.
“We just got a message from the Aquabase,” Dana explained, “We have retuned our sensors to pick up the signature of your monsters, apparently a monster of extreme power has materialized in your city, do you want our help?”
“I think we should be able to manage it, thanks.” Said David, “We'll let you know if we need you. Come on Becky, let's go.” She turned to face him and the pair activated their teleporters and were gone.
Ryan, the Lightspeed's Titanium ranger walked over to his sister, “Don't worry Dana, I'm sure you'll see him again sometime.” He said as he saw her trying to act indifferent to the whole affair.
“I know, but with that monster out there that's what's bothering me.”
“OK Alpha, we're nearly done here, we'll be there in a minute.” Al informed the bunkers resident robot. That was the truth of the matter as well someone, or something had been helping them out since the battle commenced, it was impossible to tell what it was for the simple reason that they couldn't see it, but whatever it was a brilliant fighter, for every Warrior that the rangers took down this mysterious character took down another two.
“Ok done,” called Laura as she knocked the last of them down. “Let's go!” she looked around her, checking to see if their mysterious aid had decided to show himself to them yet, he hadn't so the pair activated their teleporters and vanished in pink and black light.
The mysterious figure turned off his stealth camouflage and stood in morphed mode. 'It would appear that Artemis has activated her ranger team at last, but what were they doing in Angel Grove?' the figure thought to itself before reactivating his stealth and returning to his hiding place.
“I told you that you were no match for me!” gloated Repulsor as he knocked the red and white rangers flying once again.
“We're getting nowhere here,” Angela whispered to Kim, “He's just too strong for us, we need the others.” Just on cue Al and Laura teleported in and opened fire on Repulsor with their Power Weapons, the shock of this new attack took him by surprise, knocking him backwards. By the time Repulsor was back on his feet the four rangers were ready and waiting for him having taken defensive stances.
“Plague Warriors attack!” called out Repulsor and a number of Plague Warriors appeared all around the rangers, “Charge!” he commanded and the warriors charged mindlessly towards the rangers.
“You'll have to do better than that!” yelled Al to Repulsor as he fired off his sword towards the approaching enemy, destroying a large number of them. The other rangers did the same and within seconds the other warriors were destroyed also.
“Oh I intend to, that was nothing more than a warm up, so you might stand a chance against my power. Now prepare to meet your doom.” Gloated Repulsor he pointed his staff towards the rangers and a bolt of electricity flew out of it that flew towards the four rangers, hitting all of them and knocking them out of morph, Repulsor walked towards the rangers pointing his staff at the helpless figures on the floor. It was at that point the flames fell from the sky once more.
“It must be Becky!” called Laura as she was once again transformed into the pink ranger. Two figures started to fall out of the gigantic Phoenix and Dragon Zords as they flew over head, they had their weapons drawn and were ready for combat, Becky fired at the enemy, trying to buy her friends some extra time, the razor ring flew towards the enemy, cutting him across the chest, causing an explosion and knocking him backwards, the Blue and Solar Rangers hit the floor ready to defend themselves.
“Six on one? Now that's not exactly fair now is it?” he pulled out his staff and stuck it into the ground, and immediately started to grow until he reached about three hundred feet in height, “Now call your Zords and we'll tangle one on one!”
“Alright, we need Last Line Megazord Power, now!” called Angela as she pushed her left hand into the air. Five beams of light, like oversized versions of the ranger's teleportation beams flew through the sky and formed into the ranger's megazord, the ranger's teleported themselves inside and took their usual positions at the controls. Repulsor readied his staff and ran in at the zords, swinging his staff at the megazords chest, causing massive explosions;
“You are doomed rangers! Give up now whilst you have the chance!” gloated Repulsor as he pulled the staff above his head, readying it for the deathblow.
“Not yet you don't,” David said as he pulled the megazords controls, causing it to jump back sharply, he then tapped open a communication channel, “Becky, remember what we discussed? Get ready. Phoenix Megazord Power Now!” he called as he tapped a newly appeared button on the megazords control panels. The phoenix zord of Becky flew in towards the megazord and the megazord began to reform. The zords separated into their separate components once more and began to form the new megazord configuration. The Phoenix zords torso encased the body of the Chimera creating a strong metallic armour casing, the Dragons legs took their place once more, this time over the legs of the Unicorn zord making them appear longer and more powerful, and looking at the cockpit readouts they had actually altered in size and shape, it wasn't just an illusion. The Angels head appeared in the appropriate place as the Pegasus' wings mounted on the back of the megazord, soon followed by those of the Angel, and Phoenix, appearing like a spread of six wings, as those of the butterfly. The Pegasus' arms, merged with the Dragon's forming one new pair that mounted onto the side of the megazords torso. The five rangers were joined in the main cockpit by Becky who's chair took up a position slightly above and behind that of Angela.
“Nice of you to join us! Make yourself feel at home.” Welcomed Laura.
“Alright, let's see what this baby can do!” called Al enthusiastically.
“Ha, ha! Your new toy won't save you!” gloated Repulsor.
“Let's see about that!” called Becky, “Phoenix Megazord, full power flame attack!”
The megazord levelled both of it's arms toward Repulsor and a gout of flame flew out of each one, the tubes on the new arms and the legs pumping with energy. The flames hit Repulsor enveloping him completely.
“Alright, he's gone!” called Kim as she and the others started to celebrate. It was then that it happened. Repulsor's staff flew out of the flames and hit the megazord squarely in the chest, the flames cleared and a clearly weakened Repulsor could be seen down on one knee, struggling to get himself back up on his feet. The impact from the blow caused massive explosions in the zords, they started to explode, with pieces flying off in all directions, the rangers fluctuated in and out of morph as the zords systems tried desperately to save those inside it, but they were still unable to escape the explosions, the zords fell to the floor in pieces but the rangers were nowhere to be seen when the dust settled.
“Ai, ai, ai, ai, ai! The rangers are gone! I can't see them on sensors anywhere!” Alpha 3 called in fear, “Artemis goes away for a few days and I lose the ranger team! The earth is doomed.” he collapsed onto the ground in a bizarre show of despair for a robot, in his depression he missed the fact that as the Last Line Rangers light went out on the powers board two more came on, those of the Zeo Rangers and that of the Astro Rangers. It was done, but not yet.
“Finally I destroyed those rangers. It is about time, now I have just got Artemis to deal with but she's defenceless anyway.” Repulsor reflected. “Wait, what is that?” he asked as he saw two great Megaships entering the Solar system on a course towards Earth, “That one looks like the one belonging to Artemis, that one looks like it belongs to another ranger team… I think I'm in trouble…”
Next time on Power Rangers: Last Line Defence…
Who reactivated the Zeo Powers? Who is on the mysterious Megaships? Will the zords be repaired? Is this the end of the Last Line Power Rangers? Who knows? Find out next time in Power Rangers: Last Line Defence.
