Power Rangers: Gamma Strike
In the Mouth of Madness, part 3
Darren found himself lying on the ground. There was no town anywhere in sight. Kid rode by with newspapers, which was a bit odd as the only building nearby was a windmill.
"Kid, stop." He said. Luckily the kid stopped. "Have you ever heard of a place called Hobb's End?" "No."
Darren watched the kid ride off. Maybe he had imagined it, then. Suddenly he noticed he was holding the manuscript. He dropped it on the floor and walked off, knowing that it was over. Lauren and Nick may have vanished with the town, but at least Earth was safe now.
* * *
Darren walked to a news-stand. He was about to buy a newspaper, when someone gave him a package. "There's a delivery for you," the news-stand worker, aged about sixteen, said. "But no one knows I'm in this city," Darren replied. "Someone does," the news-stand worker replied.
The package was addressed to him. He opened it, finding a manuscript for 'In the Mouth of Madness'. "Who delivered this?" he asked, grabbing the guy at the counter. "I don't know!" he replied. "Who delivered it?" "I wasn't here!" "I was," another man who worked at the news-stand said, "and I didn't see shit."
* * *
Darren burnt the manuscript to ashes. He had to get back to Mariner Bay.
* * *
Darren was on the bus back to Mariner Bay. However, being very tired, he fell asleep.
* * *
He awoke to find Sutter Kane next to him. "You don't understand," Kane said, "The other Rangers were in Hobb's End when it vanished. You're the only Ranger left now, understand?" Darren screamed.
* * *
He awoke to find that that had been a dream. The bus was now arriving in Mariner Bay.
* * *
"I'm telling you, it was there," Darren said to a woman in charge of bus tickets. "It couldn't have been." "But I was there. There was this town, and there were people there, and trees-" "I don't doubt that. What I'm telling you is that it couldn't have been called Hobb's End. There never is, was, or will be a city with that name in this state, ever." "I want to see your supervisor!"
* * *
Later, Darren was in the office of Sutter Kane’s boss, Johnny. "That's an amazing story," Johnny said, "Do you believe it?" "If I don't, what's my choice? I'm crazy?" Darren replied, "This book drives people insane, that's why I had to burn the last manuscript." "I know that part's not true. You delivered it to me personally months ago right here!" Johnny shouted, "It's been in the stores for seven weeks! And you went there alone. There was no one else with you."
* * *
A radio was reporting strange attacks. For some reason, people everywhere on Earth had began acting crazy. They were killing people.
Darren walked over to a guy reading the book, 'In the Mouth of Madness'. He knew what had to be done. "Did you enjoy the book?" "Yes." "Good. Then this shouldn't come as a surprise." Darren whacked the guy with an axe, killing him.
* * *
Darren had been taken to the mental institute. "It's no good," one doctor said, "He thinks this book of Sutter Kane's is causing the madness." "Do you read Sutter Kane books?" asked a second doctor. The first walked out of the corridor.
* * *
Darren heard the sounds of an attack. Standing, he found his straightjacket was no longer there. He opened the door and walked into reception.
* * *
Darren found blood everywhere. Everyone in the building but him had been torn apart. He thought he saw a Squid Person briefly, but maybe not.
* * *
Darren then walked into a cinema. No one else was there; they had either run or died. A radio reported, "We've lost contact with the south coast, so it's impossible to tell how many unaffected people there are. If for any reason you are not affected, find shelter immediately. Do not trust family members of friends, they may-"
It was cut off.
* * *
Darren was now watching a movie, but not any movie. It showed various things that had happened, starting with when the got to Hobb's End, but the images weren't in order.
* * *
Nick was still fighting with Gamma Silver. Gamma Silver didn’t seem to mind, however, and blasted Gamma Yellow back, throwing him to the ground.
“You will never be victorious at this rate,” Gamma Silver laughed, blasting Gamma Yellow with his laser pistol.
“Plasma Strike!” Gamma Yellow called out, in desperation.
“Meteor Strike!” Gamma Silver called out, bombarding Gamma Yellow with flaming rocks and knocking him down.
“Your efforts are pathetic, soon the Gamma Rangers will be no more,” Gamma Silver laughed.
“I thought you were a Gamma Ranger.” Gamma Yellow replied, only to be hit by more shots.
“Maybe I am, but not on the side of justice,” Gamma Silver replied, throwing Gamma Yellow back.
“However, General Lexor doesn’t want Virulina to take the defeat of the Gamma Rangers,” Gamma Silver said. He opened a door, revealing the horror writer Sutter Kane, who was tied up. Gamma Silver released him from the ropes.
“Gamma Yellow, the one you saw earlier was one of Virulina’s Giganoids disguised as this human,” Gamma Silver said, teleporting away and leaving Gamma Yellow to attack the monster.
* * *
Gamma Yellow ran into the office of the fake Sutter Kane. Blasting away, he released Darren and Lauren from their trance.
“Gamma power!” Darren and Lauren called, activating their Morphers.
“Well, there are three of you now, it shouldn’t be a problem,” the fake Kane said, transforming into the Giganoid Fireclaw.
“Gamma Bazooka, fire!” Gamma Yellow shouted, blasting Fireclaw repeatedly, but to no avail.
“Gamma Crossbow!”
“Gamma Sword! Gamma Cannon, form!” they fired, but again the Giganoid was almost unfazed by the onslaught.
“I can’t believe that didn’t work,” Gamma Red muttered.
“I’ll finish this, Rangers,” Gamma Silver said as he appeared, cleaving the Repressor Unit off the Giganoid and causing him to grow as Gamma Silver teleported away.
“Now you’re finished!” Fireclaw shouted.
“Gamma Knight, online!” shouted the three Gamma Rangers, as the Gamma Knight formed.
“You’ll soon find that you’re finished!” Fireclaw shouted, firing beams of fire from his claws, striking Gamma Knight but without doing much harm.
“Meteor Fist!” Gamma Red called, the flaming fist of Gamma Knight striking Fireclaw, also to no avail.
“Utahraptor Blade, activate!” Gamma Red called, and cut deep into Fireclaw with his blade.
“That wasn’t very clever,” Fireclaw muttered, as he saw Gamma Knight preparing the finisher, he leapt into the air and slammed Gamma Knight to the ground. The Utahraptor Blade fell to the ground and vanished.
“As you can see, your efforts will get you nowhere!” Fireclaw shouted, tearing into Gamma Knight with his claws. Gamma Knight managed to strike Fireclaw hard across the shoulder. Throwing him off, Gamma Knight managed to regain his footing. However, Fireclaw sent a plasma blast into Gamma Knight. Gamma Knight was hit hard, and staggered back from the impact.
“Trilobite Axe, deploy!” ordered Gamma Yellow, cleaving into Fireclaw’s head with the axe, almost splitting his head in half. He blasted Gamma Knight again, although his time he used the axe to deflect the blasts, and struck the Giganoid in the stomach, blood soaking the Trilobite Axe. He continued his assault, initiating the Trilobite Axe finisher, throwing Fireclaw a few hundred feet back, yet he still lived!
“Ankylosaur Wrecker, deploy!” Gamma Blue called, as her Gamma Sphere activated, the Ankylosaur Wrecker’s handle attaching to the top of the Trilobite Axe.
“Axe Crusher!” Gamma Yellow and Gamma Blue called out together. Their axe crashed against Fireclaw, the impact also sending the wrecker ball in. The city began to return to normal as Fireclaw exploded.
* * *
“At least Virulina failed,” Lexor laughed to himself, knowing that this made Virulina as bad a General as he was considered. However, he had two new evil Rangers to attack the Gamma Rangers with, which improved the situation even more. He knew that at this rate the enemy would definitely be defeated.
Virulina wasn’t too disappointed by the loss of her first Giganoid, as before he went down he had forced the Rangers to use much more effort than they had to use against Lexor’s Torinoids, which proved the Giganoids superior. The next Giganoid sent into battle would not fail so easily, and in addition, Virulina had retrieved the repressor unit.
