What time is it?
That's right, it's time for the next chapter of C2D the Novel! I've really been in an writing mode lately and it hasn't slowed down or stopped yet! Expect ch 21 tomorrow sometime. Then, I won't have the next chapter until monday because my internet access is limited to only monday through friday for right now.
So, you'll get a break from it during the weekend. :D
As always, email or post here with your thoughts, comments, etc. And just a note: readers of this novel, if you haven't already, please post some comments or criticisms for PHAETON's stories. I think they're good, myself, could use improvement in some areas, but it's good start for a fanfic writer. Give him your own thoughts, as you've done for me.
Enjoy the chapter.
With regards, Devious.

Rita Repulsa was bored. In fact, she was incredibly bored. She had accomplished what she had been told to do by Astronema and Dark Spectre. Well, she reflected, just Astronema now. With all of her and Zedd’s combined forces now under her rule, she had taken command of the planet Triforia, known as the home of the legendary Gold Ranger.
Ever since Zedd and Goldar departed the planet for Zedd’s personal mission to destroy former Power Ranger Tommy, Rita had made the decision not to follow her instincts and go after Zedd because Rita felt that when it came right down to it, Zedd wouldn’t stop until either he was dead, or Tommy was and Rita had no intention of being around them when one of them bit the bullet as it were.
She had led her troops all over the capital city of Trikliton on Triforia, taking the entire city with little to no effort because she had already taken the Gold Ranger captive and defeated him. Right now, Rita found herself sitting in the middle of the plush, warm bed in the center of the quarters reserved for the king of Triforia, who just happened to be the Gold Ranger being held below.
Rita sighed and grunted in misery. She hated feeling trapped by her own emotions. That was one of the reasons why she always tried to never build friendships or any kind of relationship with anyone. It gave her freedom from all of those icky painful emotions that she knew she possessed because she was part human after all.
Plus, she was finding herself missing Zedd’s presense more and more recently and she couldn’t quite understand why. She was honest enough with herself to know she didn’t love Zedd yet. Even with the years she had been married to him, there was no love there because that one particular emotion was a two way street and he didn’t love her, so she didn’t love him.
Rita heard running footsteps close in on the hallway just outside the quarters she was sitting in and she got off the bed just as a hurried knock came at the door. “Enter!” Rita called out an instant later.
One of the Z Putties and Finster entered as soon as her voice was heard. Finster walked over to his mistress. “I hate to bother you, Rita….but we have a major problem.”
“What’s the problem, Finster?” Rita demanded.
Finster averted her eyes. “We’re not sure how, yet…but it seems that the Gold Ranger has escaped the dungeon cell we threw him into. We can’t find him anywhere. We’re positive he hasn’t left the planet yet.”
Rita was shaking her head, now having to deal with this new problem. “How can you be so sure he’s still here?”
“We’ve been monitoring his zord, Pyramidas. It’s still here, so he must be. And, my mistress, before he can even use it, he needs his Power Staff and you have it.” Finster explained.
“I do not believe this!” Rita screeched. “Of course he would escape. It was his family that designed that place! Alright, I want him found and I want it done right now! Do you understand me!”
Finster nodded and ducked away, taking the Z Puttie away with him. The door closed behind them.
“Well, I was bored…now I have something to concentrate on.” she grumbled as she walked back over to the soft bed and let herself fall into it.

They found themselves to be in the center of a very unwanted spotlight. Above them, the sky was getting darker as night time cam over the planet that the six humans from Earth found themselves trapped on. None of them had any idea where here was, but at the moment, none of them really had any mind to care. They were just still going through a sense of disbelief, even shock.
They had just discovered that the reason the Varox had been after Billy Cranston, former Blue Ranger, had been Master Vile, father of Rito Revolto and Rita Repulsa. It had been Master Vile who had engineered where they currently were. They were standing on the floor, the ground of a large arena like structure that was filled with Tengas and other species of despicable creatures that served under Master Vile or that served under Prince Gasket and Princess Archerina, who were now very visible near Master Vile up above.
“What’s this about, Master Vile?” Billy asked, staring at the dark clad figure with trepidation.
Master Vile rested his hands on the railing of the small throne box he was standing in. He peered down at the six humans with evident distaste. “This is about the future, of course. You have no idea the capabilities of that device of yours, do you?”
Billy looked at it, remembering the hours of study he did of that Journal. He knew certain abilities the Transcoder had, sure, but he didn’t know everything about it. Yet. “I know enough to know that it can’t fall in evil hands.” he said to Master Vile.
“Stupid human.” Master Vile snorted. “That device has been a part of a plan I have had engineered for a very long time. I have had to wait many years before I could actually move forward with my plan because those blasted Eltarians wouldn’t complete it’s design. Then you come along and do a masterful job finishing it. Fantastic job.”
Rocky took a step forward. “If you think we’re just handing it over to you, you have another thing coming!”
“You’re not going to have a choice.” Master Vile told them, evenly. “I’ve arranged everything very carefully here. There’s no way you can get off this planet.”
“What’s your goal here, Master Vile? What good can the Transcoder do for you?” Adam asked him. “You’ve already tried time travel, remember…..it didn’t do you any good back then and it won’t now.”
“True,” Master Vile allowed, “but it’s not the time travel aspects I’m after here. It’s something else that that device can do that I’m after. That my allies here, the Machines are after.”
“What are you talking about?” Kimberly asked, now speaking for the first time.
Master Vile just looked at them. “Billy, my boy, you haven’t told them everything about that device, have you?” he said to him, chuckling. “That device has the technology to open a gateway.”
Rocky looked at Billy. “He’s mentioned the alternate universes to us, Master Vile.”
“Oh,” Master Vile seemed surprised, “but I bet he didn’t tell how the impact that could be made. This universe you were all born into, it is not the only universe that exists upon the time and space continuum. Billy knows this and perhaps he should have explained it to you. There are countless number of parallel universes, all existing together. Each one is a little or a lot different from the other. It’s taken me years to sort through them, but I’ve finally found the ones I’ve been searching for.”
“What you’ve been searching for?” Billy sent the question up.
“Oh yes,” Prince Gasket spoke up for the first time, leaning against the railing with Master Vile, “you would be surprised at how many universes there are out there in which Dark Spectre doesn’t exist. Frankly, there are not that many. But Master Vile has tracked down two of the very few that does exist.”
Adam’s brows furrowed. “What does Dark Spectre’s existence have to do with anything?”
“Humans can be so idiotic sometimes.” Princess Archerina complained, standing next to her husband and gazing at the six of them, “With no Dark Spectre to rise in power to control the UAE, it gives us the perfect opportunities to establish ourselves as the future sovereigns of the universe!”
“Indeed, Archerina.” Master Vile stated. “But the search has been harder simply because while we needed to find a universe that didn’t possess Dark Spectre, we also needed one where our own counterparts also either didn’t exist or were already dead. Fortunately, I’ve found two. One, where my own counterpart perished at a younger age and therefore, never had any offspring and also didn’t have a Dark Spectre to rule over. And two, we found one where the only child Mondo and Machina had was Sprocket, so Gasket and Archerina will destroy them and take control of the Machine Empire to establish their sovereignty. And to accomplish these acts, we’ve needed only two things.”
“Billy’s Transcoder.” Kimberly whispered, shocked from these revalations.
“Yes,” Gasket nodded, “that Transcoder is very important to our continued plans. But not nearly as important as the other.”
“The other…” Rocky almost couldn’t find the words, too shocked as he was.
“Of course,” Master Vile said, sounding almost annoyed, “the Phantom Ruby. You wouldn’t believe how long it took us to get ahold of that.”
Billy’s eyes widened. “You mean…”
Master Vile raised his right hand, palm out. Resting in the center of his hand was the red jewel known as the Phantom Ruby. The former Rangers stared at it in shock, knowing at a gut instinct that if Master Vile held the ruby, then something horrible must have happened to the Phantom Ranger.
Master just chuckled. “Bring him out.”
Part of the wall suddenly moved inward and two Varox soldiers started walking out into the arena’s ground area. Between them, they were pulling a body, in fact, it was more like they were dragging it than pulling. Billy, Rocky, Adam, Tanya, and Kimberly stared in sickened shock at the sight of the Phantom Ranger being dragged. Penny clutched at Rocky’s arm, not seeing it, but feeling it tenfold.
In the center of his chest, where his ruby used to be, there was just nothing there but a dark hole and blood was dripping from it down his suit. And it was obvious to them that he’d been through a great fight before his ruby had been taken out. His arms and chest and legs area were covered in tears and scratches all along his armor.
The two Varox soldiers stopped a few feet from them and then, they just let Phantom Ranger go. The black armored ranger hit the ground, face first, gasping a bit as he landed. Without saying a word, the Varox soldiers just turned and retreated back behind the wall. It closed again, leaving the six humans and Phantom Ranger locked inside, once again.
Billy hurried over and dropped to one knee, turning Phantom Ranger back over to his back. “Phantom Ranger? Are you….”
Phantom Ranger coughed. “I am okay for now…but if I do not get my ruby back in place soon….I will perish.”
Billy stared around the arena, seeing the delighted sights of the Tengas as they awaited what was going to be a war against them. He shook his head, for the first time, really feeling as if not all of them would be making it out of this one.
He sincerely hoped he was wrong.
*****
The screams were beginning to get to him. There was at least twenty or so beings behind him, screaming at him in their own language. But still, that didn’t slow him down. Trey, the Lord of Triforia was set and determined to escape capture of Rita Repulsa, no matter what it took. He had something much more important to do.
Like with every other place in the universe, Trey was totally unprepared when his home, Triforia, was suddenly invaded by Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa and all of their combined forces. And even with Triforia’s military defenses, it wasn’t enough. Triforia still fell victim to the forces of evil, but Trey still did what he had to in order to survive. And survive he did because it’s something he was trained to do.
Trey was running towards the edge of the city, where Pyramidas was currently located. Even though he had been separated from his Power Staff, he had yet to split back into his three halves yet. He maneuvered around the corner of a building and ran straight for the next building about twenty yards off.
Behind him, he could hear his pursuers chasing him, but he paid them no mind, not when he had to get inside that cargo boy where his Zord was located. Normally, he would be forced to get to Rita first and get his staff back, but luckily for him and unluckily for her, since he was still bonded together with the staff, he could be planets away from it and still be able to summon it upon command.
He was fifteen yards away and the chasers behind him were getting closer. He sped his steps up, his breathing under control. Ten yards away now and he could feel the sense of exhaustion soaring through him. He kept going, his mind and attention focused on getting to the cargo bay. Nothing less would be satisfactory. Now, he found himself five yards away and he kept going.
Finally, he was at the cargo bay. He slammed the door open and ran inside, hurrying over to where Pyramidus was. Trey held his right arm out. “Golden Power Staff!” he called.
In a shimmer of powerful golden light, the Power Staff materialized in Trey’s hands and he smiled, hearing in his mind’s eye the screech that Rita would undoubtedly make once she realized what happened to the Staff. Trey held the staff high above him and using his mind’s link with the Golden power, he morphed into the Gold Ranger.
The Gold Ranger wasted no time, he boarded Pyramidas and activated the massive zord’s control systems. Then, Pyramidus was in the sky, getting higher and higher until it was leaving the planet’s atmosphere. Gold Ranger spared a wistful glance at his homeworld, wishing it didn’t have to be him leaving like this. But he knew before it was all over, he’d be back and he’d bring help to assist him in freeing his home world.
And he’d heard some of Rita’s forces talking about something that they’d heard about a fight about to happen on another planet. Trey had heard some familiar names spoken out loud and that had made his mind up for him. Using his hands, he outlined a trajectory that would take Pyramidas to the planet in which he heard the guards speaking of.
With a rush of power, Pyramidas sky rocked through outer space, on it’s route to the planet.

Outside the city of Angel Grove on Earth, in the midst of the reservation there, Tommy Oliver and David Trueheart were finishing up in their process of getting ready to leave David’s house. Their current plan of action was to go to the place specified on the scroll Zedd gave Tommy about the third test. They were going to wait for Zedd to show up, then they would make their move against him.
David entered the front door of his home and closed the door behind him. His brother was still changing in the bedroom, but David took the time to go through a couple of the pages that were in the steel case. One page, in particular, called out for his attention it seemed and David looked at it. It had writing that David didn’t understand, but hoped to someday and three figures standing there. Two of the figures were definitely male, but the third, David could tell evenly was a female and he tried to understand the significance of that, but was having trouble.
He put the paper down and sealed the cover to the case. David himself had changed into something else. He still wore his black jeans, but he’d changed into a long sleeved white shirt and put his black vest on over it. But he put a new belt on instead of using his old one. The belt he now wore had a loop on the side of it that he could easily fit the white bladed weapon into. And that’s what he did, he slipped the weapon through the loop, then grabbed his waist long jacket and pulled it on.
Tommy entered the living room from David’s bedroom, fresh after taking a shower. His hair was damp and combed back. He already had it pulled into a single ponytail, away from the scars on his sore skin around his neck and shoulders. Tommy now wore a pair of dark black jeans with a dark red button up t-shirt tucked into it.
“You ready?” he asked his brother evenly.
David gazed at his brother’s face, it’s drawn and exhaustive look evident. “Yes…I think the sooner we do this…the sooner this can be over. Let’s finish Lord Zedd.”
Tommy nodded and walked over to the table, grabbing a small black bag with a shoulder strap attached to it. He carefully placed his black dinosaur handled sword inside it and zipped the bag up. Grabbing the bag, he slung the strap over his shoulder and began walking to the front door, ready to head out to his Jeep.
Behind him, David was walking back by the table, after having put the case back in it’s place in his closet. Now, as he walked by the table, he happened to gaze to his left, straight at the window. He stopped suddenly upon looking out.
Standing in the yard was a single figure.
David turned his head to yell out a warning to his brother, but it was too late. A thundering boom echoed through the place, accompanied by a powerful blast the sent glass and wood exploding inward as a powerful blast hit the house. David went flying backward, hitting the wall next to the bedroom doorway hard. He slid down to the ground.
As the explosion happened, Tommy was already at the door. When it happened, the force threw him against the door, his already sore body slamming into it, awakening painful injuries. Moments passed by as both brothers tried their best to recover from the sudden blast on David’s home.
Less than a minute passed by before the sounds of footsteps on glass were sounded and Tommy, warily, was able to open his eyes, his right hand clutching his aching side as his ribs screamed in outrage from the continued abuse. He saw Zedd enter, holding his staff in his hand. Instead of even looking at him, Zedd walked straight towards David.
Zedd reached him and, bending down, he grabbed David by the shirt and tugged him up. Only then, with David in his hands, did Zedd look over at Tommy. “Did you seriously think I wouldn’t know what goes on with you Tommy?” he asked him incredulously. “I know everything when it comes to you. Since you know I don’t have your precious Kat, this is going to be very simple for you. I’m taking your brother. If you want him back,” Zedd then heaved up, slinging David over his shoulder, “you will meet me and him at the place of your birth.”
A look of confusion came over Tommy’s eyes for a moment, then he understood what Zedd meant. “Ze…” he started to say.
“We’ll be waiting for you.” Zedd stated before he used his staff and opened a shiny white portal, circular in shape. Zedd then walked straight through it, taking Tommy’s brother with him. The portal closed right after him and all was silent in the house once again.
“Son of a bitch!!” Tommy snapped, getting to his feet. He ignored the pain in his side as he threw the door open and stalked to his Jeep. He had a new destination in mind now. He wasn’t heading to the old caverns anymore. He was heading straight for the Angel Grove Lake.
Any anybody that got in his way would regret it.
