Question about fanfics

What makes people come back to a fic? How do you keep readers entertain? What do you like to see in a fic?

I enjoy stories where the characters speak and act as I expect them to. Because of the large volume of Power Rangers history available, I think that fan fiction writers have a lot of leeway as far as plots go. I appreciate humor, like in last week's RPM "Ranger Yellow 2" episode but didn't enjoy the attempt at humor in Jungle Fury's "Don't Blow that Dough".
