Episode One: The Rise Of The Power Rangers
The sound of high heels tapping against a marble floor was the only sound in the entire Alternative Development headquarters. The sound came from a beautiful young woman by the name of Monica Reid, who was making her way down the deserted hallways, a clipboard pinned close to her chest.
“Damn it. Why isn’t anyone else here yet?” She asked, shivering at the total and complete silence. She worked for Patrick Campbell, the company owner, and she had been told the day before that she was required to come three hours early to work that day.
She had been working there for only about two weeks, and she remembered back to her first day with a slight smile.
Monica had taken extra care on her appearance that day, and she was wearing pink dress and her hair was up in a bun, with two strands hanging down to either side of her face. Her heeled boots clicked against the floor as she glanced around nervously, not recognizing the room that she had been shown during her initiation.
She found herself in a dark hallway, one that was completely devoid of sound. A sudden gust of cold air swept by her, causing her to shiver. It was odd that this hallway was even in this high end building, and she walked a little bit faster, cautiously glancing behind her every couple of seconds.
Monica couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was following her, and she kept glancing behind her, her pace picking up until she was practically running down the hallway. Whipping around a corner, she slammed into someone who was standing there.
“I’m so sorry! Are you okay?’ The voice asked. Looking up, she was faced by a man who she couldn’t help but find incredibly sexy. It took her a minute or so, but she recognized him as her boss, although he wasn’t wearing the suit he had been wearing when they first met.
The young woman had blushed furiously, getting to her feet. Patrick just smiled, leading her to the area of the building where she had been hired to work.
Her flashback was interrupted by a sudden light shining from beneath a large, stone door not far away from her.
“What the hell is that?” She asked quietly, making her way to the light slowly. As she swung the door open, she was greeted by the sight of some kind of swirling light.
A look of confusion crossed her face before she was propelled backwards out of the room, slamming into the wall opposite the room with the swirling light. The force that had thrown her back so far was so strong that it felt like she had been slammed into by an 18-wheeler.
Her hair hung over her face as she slowly made her way to her feet, a few droplets of blood dripping from the back of her head. As she watched, the light changed colour, turning black and red before a single, armoured boot appeared.
The boot was followed by a fully armoured figure with blazing red eyes. The being didn’t seem to see her standing there, holding her arm in pain. Involuntarily, a squeak of fear escaped from her lips, and the being whipped around to face her.
“Human. Tell me, where are they?” It asked. It’s voice was too low to be human, and it struck terror into Monica’s heart.
“Where are who?” She somehow managed to ask, attempting to stand up straight. She only ended up hurting herself more, blood dripping from her wound again.
“Don’t waste my time, wench!” The being shouted, tossing the young woman off to the side. Monica landed in a heap, crying from the sheer pain. She got up again, her right eye closed due to the pain she felt.
“I don’t fucking know anything!” She shouted back, her breath coming out in gasps. As the being attempted to strike her again, his hand was knocked to the side by a black sneaker.
“Back up.” A voice familiar to the young woman said. With a smile as she recognized the person as Patrick. He was wearing an odd outfit, and she couldn’t understand why. It was a black outfit, with green accents on it in various places. She was too afraid of the armoured man to inquire as to why her boss was wearing something so strange.
“Patrick!” She yelled gleefully, moving to stand behind her boss. Strangely, Patrick had… an aura of sorts around him. It was green, the same colour as the accents on his outfit, and it seemed like the… embodiment of nature, somehow.
“Don’t worry Monica, I’ll deal with him.” He said, getting into a fighting pose. His right fist was drawn back behind his head, while his other hand was balled into a fist at his waist. His aura seemed to shine larger, flaring out as he faced the being before him.
“I recognize that pose! It’s you!” The being shouted angrily, a six foot long sword appearing in his hand. A cocky smile grew on Patrick’s face, proving that the strange being was correct in his assumption.
Darkside screamed in rage, the red lights flaring even brighter. He charged at Patrick, his sword held high over his head. As Darkside swung downwards with the blade, Patrick tilted to the side, causing the sword to crash into the floor, the sound of metal colliding with marble almost unbearable.
He grabbed Darkside’s armoured arm in his hand, bending it backwards with such force that the evil being cried out in pain. The cry actually seemed human, but it didn’t last for long. Pulling his arm forwards again, Darkside made Patrick land on his back, the force of the landing knocking the wind out of the man.
Grunting, Patrick propelled himself along the floor, retaining his firm hold on Darkside’s arm, and pulling him towards him. Darkside’s arm was now in the vicinity of his sword, and he grabbed it, attempting to stab the sharp blade into the man’s head. Barely managing to tilt his head out of the way, Patrick reached into his pocket with his free hand, pulling a green gem from it.
“Monica! Take this, and yell Red Alert into it!” He shouted, tossing it to the brunette. She caught it, putting it close to her lips.
“Red alert!” She shouted, instantly feeling foolish. She had never doubted Patrick, and would do anything that he asked. Out of nowhere, a light appeared beside her, flaring out like a star. As the light died down, three figures stood there, their outfits similar to Patrick’s, although they were red, yellow, and blue.
“Patrick?” The one in red asked, his blonde hair hanging down to either side of his face. Noticing Monica standing there, he smiled, putting a hand on her shoulder, obviously noticing the fear in her eyes.
“Don’t worry. We’ll take things from here.” he stated, running over to where the two combatants were striking each other on the ground. Pulling Patrick to his feet, the red clad man kicked Darkside in the face as he attempted to get up, sending him falling to the ground once again.
“Monica, this is Joseph, Nasir, and Vincent.” Patrick stated, gesturing towards the red, blue, and yellow clad men respectively. The three of them simply nodded at her, turning their attention back to the armoured figure before them. It didn’t help that the five of them were on the fortieth floor of the Alternative Development building, and Monica was absolutely terrified of heights. She stood in one spot, attempting to not have to look out of the glass windows.
The four of men struck fighting poses as Darkside got up, using his sword as a tool to brace himself. A maniacal laugh emanated from behind his dark helmet, his eyes flashing red once again.
“What’s so funny?” Vincent asked, glaring at the armoured being. Darkside didn’t respond, but simply held his sword above hiss head, slamming the point of it into the ground.
“Shit! Run!” Nasir yelled, his Japanese accent ringing out clearly as he spoke. Monica didn’t know why, but she ran off after the four men, somehow managing to remain on her feet. AS the five humans reached the end of the hallway, they found their way blocked by a group of figures that looked like shadows, although they were solid. Looking around, the five of them couldn’t find anyway out.
Joseph’s gaze rested on the windows to the left of them. Nodding at Nasir, he offered his hand to Monica, who took it, simply out of fear. Forming an odd sign with his hands, his body glowed with an aura similar to Patrick’s although it was dark blue in colour. Out of nowhere, a tidal wave of water crashed into the glass, shattering it easily. With a look at each other, the four men leapt out of the window, with Joseph pulling Monica behind him.
The ground lay forty storied below them, and the five humans found themselves hurtling towards it at a ridiculous speed. Monica screamed loudly, knowing that death awaited her.
“Monica! Take this!” Joseph shouted over the loud winds surging around them, handing her a pink gem, just like the green one that Patrick had asked her to hold onto. With a flash of green light, the gem in her hand disappeared, popping into Patrick’s hand, seemingly by magic.
She held the odd pink gem, looking at it cautiously.
“Follow my lead!” Joseph shouted again, touching the center of the gem with two of his fingers. I mimicked his actions, and the gem changed, turning into an odd device. He smiled at the young woman, holding his device out in front of him.
“It’s Morphing Time!” He shouted, his device shining with a red light. Monica did the same, noticing that the others had done the actions with her. The ground was getting closer and closer, and her eyes went wide with fear. A bright flash of pink light came from her gem, and she felt a surge of power invade her body.
The five of them were teleported to an area that simply looked like a room filled with white light. The lights from their devices shined even brighter, streams of light reaching outwards towards them. The light gripped onto their bodies, taking the form of coloured outfits. The devices turned into pure light, floating high above their heads, and forming helmets, which latched onto their heads.
The ‘white room’ disappeared, and the five of them found themselves hurtling towards the ground once again, although they were now clad in their coloured outfits. Feeling the power within her, Monica flipped around in midair, her feet now facing the ground. The five of them landed on the concrete ground, and although they formed a miniature crater in the ground, they took no physical harm themselves.
“What’s this power?” Monica asked, clenching her fists as she felt more strength than she ever had before.
“It’ll take a while for us to explain, but we’ll just say this for now. We’re the Power Rangers.” Joseph said to his employee from behind his green helmet. Suddenly, a shroud of darkness appeared in front of the rangers, taking the form of Darkside, and his mysterious beasts.
“Monica, touch your glove, and say ‘Ranger Gear’.” Vincent stated, nodding at her from behind his yellow helmet.
“Ranger Gear!” The five of them said at the exact same time, touching our gloves. Light shined from it, and different weapons came to their hands. Joseph had a long, red whip, Monica had a shining pink card, Nasir had a four-foot long sword, Patrick’s hands turned more metallic, becoming a pair of gauntlets, and Vincent gained a longbow.
“Shades! Attack!” Darkside shouted, before charging at Nasir with his sword drawn. The four other rangers separated, effectively leading the Shades away from their leader.
Joseph cracked his whip with a laugh, and the Shades came at him. He lashed out to one side, sending one Shade flying into a wall, disappearing in a shroud of darkness. He lashed out to his other side, the whip wrapping around one Shade, preventing him from moving.
Joseph spun around, using the Shade to bludgeon the remaining ones. He finally released the Shade trapped in his whip by cracking it, and the Shade rocketed away, disappearing.
Monica ran straight towards a wall, the Shades following closely behind her. Purely by instinct, she ran up the wall, flipping off of it as the Shades were fooled into running into it. Holding the shining card in front of her, she tossed it at the Shades. The card grew in size until it was larger than her. Rising above the fallen Shades, it crushed them, before returning to the Pink Ranger’s hands. Monica jumped in joy. She had actually defeated these creatures, despite her fear.
Clenching his fists, Patrick punched out a Shade, hitting it directly where it’s face should be. The Shade’s ‘head’ imploded as it fell. Four more Shades ran up behind him, grabbing the Green Ranger’s arms. Concentrating, three foot claws sprouted from the gauntlets, spearing the Shades holding onto him.
Four more Shades rose from the ground, coming at Patrick at the same time. Patrick struck forward, stabbing into two of the Shades at the same time. Before the other two could grab his arms again, he stabbed backwards, piercing them directly in the chest. He let out a triumphant laugh, letting them disappear in a shroud similar to the one that the beasts appeared in.
Vincent had outran the Shades completely, jumping up onto a van. He aimed his bow in the direction of where the Shades would come from, and although there wasn’t an arrow, that wasn’t the way hat the Power Bow worked. It fired simply by Vincent’s will, firing arrows that weren’t physical, and couldn’t be blocked. He could also cause various effects, such as exploding arrows, as well as heat-seeking arrows.
As the Shades came running towards him, he fired an exploding arrow at the wall above, them causing rubble to rain down, crushing all but two of them. The two remaining Shades came towards him, and he fired an arrow right through one of them, and it disappeared. The other one managed to reach the van, grabbing hold of the Yellow Ranger’s foot. Smiling, he fired an exploding arrow below him, utterly destroying the van, as well as the Shade. Protected by his Ranger Suit, Vincent was propelled into the air, landing near the remaining Rangers safely.
Nasir expertly dodged to the left, rolling to avoid a sword slash from Darkside. Attempting to slash at Nasir’s legs, the Blue Ranger jumped over the blade, kicking the evil being in his armoured chest. Sliding backwards, Darkside clutched the spot where he had been kicked in pain. As Darkside attempted to stab the Blue Ranger through the heart, Nasir dodged the swipe again, making the hand signals he had before. A tidal wave struck the dark knight forcefully, sending him flying backwards.
The five rangers met in front of their fallen enemy, holding their weapons out in front of them.
“This is not over, rangers.” Darkside snarled, disappearing.
Monica jumped up and down in glee, demorphing as she did so. The other rangers followed her lead, each one obviously exhausted.
“Monica, there’s a lot we need to explain, but we can’t do it here.” Patrick said, offering the young woman her hand. She took it gratefully, smiling up at her boss. The five rangers disappeared in a brig flash of light, leaving nothing but silence behind them.
