Chapter I – A Peaceful Night

It was a cool, clear night in Angel Grove. Most of the city was fast asleep, although not everyone. Cassie, the ex-Pink Space Ranger, was wide awake in her house, standing on her upstairs balcony looking out at the stars.

It had been just over 8 years since her battle against Psycho Pink alongside the Pink Lost Galaxy Ranger, Kendrix. The battle in which Kendrix had been killed whilst trying to save her. Even though Kendrix had been brought back to life and everything had returned to normal, the outcome of that fateful fight had never left Cassie’s mind.

It haunted her every night; whilst Karone was still Astronema, she had made the Psycho Rangers to eliminate the Space Rangers. Cassie truly believed that Psycho Pink was her responsibility alone; if anyone should have died that day, it should have been her. Clenching her fists, she slammed them against the wooden balcony, silent tears falling from her eyes. ‘I can’t stop feeling like this.’ She thought. ‘I know it’s over, I know Kendrix is OK now, I know the Psycho Rangers are gone but...’ she shook her head. ‘...It’s not over. Not inside…’

She walked into her room and sat on her bed, picking up her old communicator off of the bedside table. It had been years since she last used this. After travelling around for a while defending the galaxy alongside Andros and the others, everything calmed down enough to the point where Andros felt he could take care of it alone. He returned the others to Earth with his new Astro Megaship Mk II to allow them to live normal lives, their Morphers being returned to the new Power Vault.. The only person that stayed behind was Ashley, who was in a serious relationship with Andros by this point. They contacted Cassie from time to time, but other than that she never heard from them or saw them.

However, she knew she’d hear from them soon. It was nearing the 9th anniversary of Zordon’s death. Every year, the Space Rangers gathered and travelled to Eltair to pay their respects, as well as heading to the Power Chamber’s ruins on Earth. Tonight was the night that she was expecting to hear from them, but they seemed to be running late.

She placed the Communicator down beside her and walked out of the room, heading downstairs to get a drink. Just as she left the room, her communicator beeped...

In space, the Astro Megaship floated around in orbit. Andros and Ashley were on the bridge, whilst Karone and Zhane were having a small holiday on the Simudeck.

Ashley was pressing some buttons on one of the consoles. She chuckled. Andros came and put his hand on her shoulder, leaning in and kissing her on the cheek. “She’s always late.” He said. Ashley nodded. “I’ll try one more time, then I’ll start getting in touch with the others.” Ashley said, pressing the buttons again and waited.

Cassie came back into the room just in time to hear the communicator go off again. She ran over to the bed and picked it up, pressing a button and speaking into it. “Hello? Ash? Andros? Is that you?” She burst into smile when she heard Ashley’s voice. “Cassie! Good to hear from you! You ready?”

Cassie went up to her balcony and shut the doors before reaching for her communicator once more. “Ready!” Seconds later, she vanished in a beam of pink light, flying away...

Short, simple, loaded with little continuity nods and emotion. Interesting.

Cassie feeling responsible about Psycho Pink and Kendrix, it is so wrong that you make this girl feel bad. But it works with her character, she's the type that'll carry the weight of the world on her shoulders, and you'll really feel for her. Plus, Cassie's sad face is really cute/vulnerable.

The transition Earth-Astromegaship Mk II-Earth was a bit odd for me. First, structurally the story's all in one block but there's three short scenes in there, so a splits might have been nice. Second, the mood was very different, although maybe you wanted to show a contrast there, Cassie being miserable while the others are living it up, in which case it really worked. To be honest I could almost have done the Astromegaship sequence and have it be solely a Cassie scene with her communicator going off at the end. That was just so down to Earth (no pun intended) and I guess you could say there was a beauty in the underlying sadness.

All in all, awesomeness. Keep it coming and keep giving us more of those little character moments. Loved it =)

If I rambled too much, blame it on So You Think You Can Dance. Just finished watching it and the judges can go on a bit too much at times...
