Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Maiden Of Destruction

Hi all, this is the a re-write of the very first PR fic that I ever did. When I started writing the original version of this, it was in script form. Now I’ve developed my writing style a bit, I thought I’d start slowly updating it to my current style as a side project to stop me getting bored of writing my other fics. Since it’s my first work, it’s not exactly the best story ever, but I don’t think it was that bad for a first attempt. Hope you all enjoy reading it!

Note: This is set during Season 1 of MMPR, specifically, right after the episode “Gung Ho!”

TODAY ON MIGHTY MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS!
When Rita slows down the pace of her attacks on Earth, Billy becomes concerned. His concerns are well noted when Rita reveals her latest plan to conquer Earth! But has Rita taken one risk too many?
FIND OUT NEXT ON THE MIGHTY MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS!

Chapter I – The Peaceful Grove

It was another beautiful day in the town of Angel Grove. Although Rita Repulsa and her minions were constantly attacking the city, the citizens of the town were not worried, because they knew that the Power Rangers and their Zords would always protect them.

At Ernie’s Juice Bar, the Rangers were having a relaxing day. Or at least, most of them were – Tommy and Jason were hard at work, heatedly sparring. The other Rangers, apart from Kimberly, were watching them from the tables. They watched on as Tommy went for Jason with a jumping side kick, although Jason managed to dodge it.

“That was one sweet move! Keep it up guys!” commented Zack, looking around at the others to see their reactions. Then he caught sight of Billy, who seemed a bit preoccupied. Now Zack had a chance to think about it, he’d been far quieter than normal today. “Hey Billy, my man, what’s up?”

Billy came to life at the sound of his name; he’d been completely lost in thought until he realized someone was talking to him. “Huh? Oh, it’s nothing. I just can’t help wondering why it’s been so quiet lately. Rita hasn’t attacked in over a week now. It’s weird. She’s never been this quiet. Perhaps she’s planning something?”

Zack chuckled in response. “Or maybe she ran away!” the others laughed with Zack, but Billy didn’t seem to find it funny. “Aw c’mon, relax. I mean, if Rita does try anything, Zordon’ll definitely let us know, and we’ll be ready for them!”

Trini put her hand on Billy’s shoulder. “Zack’s right, Billy. There’s nothing to worry about. Now we have Titanus on our side too, we’ll be fine no matter what.” Billy took a second to take in what they said before nodding and smiling. “Yea, you’re right. Thanks guys.”

The teen’s turned their attention back to the sparring match just in time to see Tommy performing a sweeping kick, knocking Jason to the floor. Walking over to Jason, Tommy reached out his hand and helped Jason up, then they bowed to each other.

“That was a great finish. Thanks for sparring with me Tommy.” Jason said, a grin on his face. Tommy nodded. “You too, man. C’mon, let’s get a drink!” both of them laughed and walked over to the others. As they approached the table, Zack gave them a thumbs up.

“That was awesome!” he said cheerily. Tommy’s grin got wider. “Thanks Zack!” Tommy looked at them all, his face breaking out into a confused look. “Still no Kimberly?” he wondered aloud. Trini giggled and shook her head. “Not yet. She’s still out shopping with her dad, she’ll be here soon.”

Right at that moment, Bulk and Skull walked into the room. Bulk spotted the Rangers and grabbed Skull by the back of the collar, stopping him in his tracks. “Skull, look! It’s those geeks again!” He let go of Skull, who stood up straight and stared at them. “Oh yea! It’s those geeks again!”

Bulk gave Skull the look he always gave him when he was annoyed of Skull copying whatever he said. “Let’s go show them who the bosses are around here! C’mon!” and with that he started marching. Skull went to follow. “Right! But wait a sec...” as Skull stopped, his trailing off, Bulk stopped and turned around to see Skull looking confused. He waited for Skull to finish his sentence. “Who ARE the bosses around here?”

Bulk’s face changed to the normal frustrated look, his standard reply to any stupid questions. “WE are, numbskull!” Skull chuckled. “Heh. Oh yea... Right...” Bulk shook his head. “Lets go!” he hissed. Skull nodded and they both walked over to the Rangers.

“What are you geeks doing here?” yelled Bulk. “Yea! What are you geeks doing here?” echoed Skull, to which Bulk replied by giving him a death stare. The Rangers just found it amusing, looking at each other and grinning.
Ernie walked past Bulk and Skull carrying a full bin bag. Although Ernie didn’t realize, there was a hole in the bag which left a trail of rubbish on the floor as he went. Just as he walked past Bulk and Skull, some banana peels and empty bottles fell to the floor behind them.

Tommy decided to try and talk them out of it. “look, guys, we have just as much of a right to be here as you do.” Jason quickly added to Tommy’s sentence. “Or maybe you’d like to show me your karate moves again?” Jason nodded at Tommy, both teens then folding their arms, looking at Bulk and Skull as if they meant business.

Bulk slowly turned around to whisper at Skull, looking nervous. “M-m-maybe we should be leaving, right Skull?” Skull nodded, and they slowly started to walk backwards, Bulk turned his face back to the teens. “Actually, come to think of it, w-w-we have other things to be doing!” Skull nodded. “Yea, real important things!”

“Later...” Bulk began to say, but since he wasn’t paying attention to where he was going, Bulk accidentally stepped on the banana peel. He slipped backwards, landing feet first on the bottles. As he tried to regain his balance, he accidentally fell off, sliding along the room and out of the doorway. “…dweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeebs!” Bulk finished yelling as the teens heard him crashing into something outside. “Bulky!” yelled Skull, running after him.

As he left, Kimberly walked in, a mixed look of confusion and happiness on her face. She saw the others, smiled and walked over to them. “I’m not going to ask!” she said, a cheerful tone in their voice. “Hey Kim!” the others replied in unison. Kimberly looked over at the long trail of rubbish left by Ernie. “Eww gross. What happened here?” she asked. Everyone looked over at the trail, looked back at each other and burst out laughing.

“That explains a lot!” commented Jason. Tommy shook his head, laughing as he did so. “Oh boy. Better go get Ernie!” he said, walking away, leaving the others to laugh amongst themselves.

Meanwhile, up on Rita’s palace, she was spying on the Rangers with her telescope whilst Goldar, Scorpina and Finster are also hanging around. “So! Those pesky Rangers think they’re safe now that they have Titanus with them eh? Finster! How long until she arrives?”

Finster shook his shoulders. “I’m not entirely sure, my queen. Any hour now.” Rita cackled. “Good! Once she arrives, the Rangers will be finished! Even their precious little Titanus won’t be able to save them. Once their Zords are out of the way, they’ll be history!”

Scorpina stepped forwards. “Of course, not without mine and Goldar’s help!” Goldar shook his arms in frustration. “I can’t understand why we didn’t attack the Pink Ranger! She was alone when she went to meet up with the others!”

Rita walked over to Goldar and hit him over the head with her staff. “Be quiet, you overgrown baboon! Doing that would have ruined the preparations! We have to catch them when they are least expecting it! How ARE the preparations coming?”

Goldar started laughing. “Very well, Empress! Soon, nothing will stand in our way, not even the Rangers!” Rita smiled, walking out to the balcony, looking down at the Earth. “Yes... Enjoy your fun whilst you can, Rangers, because it won’t last for much longer!” she started cackling hysterically once more...

Chapter II – The Calm Before The Storm

The day had passed without incident and the teens enjoyed each other’s company. The next morning, Alpha 5 was talking with Zordon in the Command Centre. “Zordon, is something on your mind?” Alpha asked, wondering why Zordon seemed so distracted today.

“I am fine, Alpha. I am, however, uncertain about something. Alpha, run a scan for any evil being other than Rita and her minions. Make sure you search the entire Solar System.” He replied. Alpha seemed confused. “Zordon?”

Zordon sighed quietly. “I can sense something coming. I believe it to be an extremely powerful being, which is why I need you to perform a scan. I can only hope that I’m wrong.”

Alpha lowered his head. “Aiyiyi... I hope so too, but you’re never wrong! Do you think it might have something to do with Rita?” Zordon shook his head. “I am uncertain, Alpha. Either way, if my suspicions prove correct and there is something coming, it could mean the beginning of the end...”

“Hmm...” Alpha wondered. “Should I alert the Rangers Zordon?” Zordon took a second to think about it before replying. “Not for the moment. We shouldn’t worry them without any proof. Although this peaceful time is unusual, the Rangers are surely benefiting from the break in the attacks. Worrying them now would achieve nothing.”

Alpha nodded and went back to scanning. Zordon slipped back into thought. There was no telling what Rita might be planning, even if she was planning anything at all...

Meanwhile, Tommy, Kim and Zack were in the park sat down on a bench waiting for the others. Kimberly sighed. “What’s taking them so long?” Tommy shrugged. “Yea, it’s not like them to be late. If they don’t hurry up we’ll be late for class.”

Just as he finished, his communicator beeped. They all looked around to see if anyone was nearby before Tommy went to answer. “Tommy here.” They recognized the sound of Jason’s voice instantly. “Hey Tommy, we’re over at Billy’s garage. The science project that he was working on went a bit haywire when we went to test it, so it looks like we’re going to be late. You guys go on ahead, we’ll catch up with you later.”

Tommy looked around at the others, both of them just nodded. Tommy nodded in response. “You sure you don’t want us to come and give you a hand?” he said. The reply this time came from Billy himself. “Affirmative. We could be here a while.”

Looking at the others again, they just shrugged. Tommy sighed. “Alright man, we’ll catch you later. Tommy out.” He stood up and grabbed his bag. “Alright then, let’s get going.” Kimberly and Zack nodded in response, picking up their bags and walking off with him.

As they walked, Kimberly started talking. “Y’know, it’s not like Billy to make a mistake with one of his inventions... Maybe something is wrong?” she wondered aloud. Zack nodded. “Yea, he was talking yesterday about Rita’s attacks, mainly the lack of ‘em. I guess the worrying must be getting to him.”

“I agree. It’s getting way too quiet around here. Rita’s up to something, that much I’m sure of. And whatever it is, it can’t be good.” Tommy replied. All 3 Rangers quietly thought about it as they continued walking...

Up on the moon, Rita was carefully observing the teen’s conversation. “I agree with you, Tommy! It has been too quiet, but from now, that’s about to change!” She cackled loudly. “FINSTER!” she screamed. As usual, he came running quickly. “Yes, my queen?”

“Get some Putties together and get them down there! It’s time to liven things up for the kiddies!” Finster nodded. “Of course, my queen. Right away!” With that, he walked off towards his lab.

Rita turned around to look at the Earth once more. “Enjoy the warmup Rangers... It won’t be long before I really turn up the heat!” She cackled once again, eagerly awaiting the beginning of her plan.

Back in the park, Tommy and the others were still walking when a squad of 6 Putties appeared out of nowhere, like usual. Surprised, Kimberly gasped in shock. “Putties!” Tommy looked over at Zack. “Told you it was too quiet around here...”

Zack nodded. “Looks like you were right bro, ready to get ‘em?” he said with a confident grin on his face. “Yea, lets go!” Tommy cried, running towards the pack. The Putties split up almost instantly, 2 of them taking on each Ranger.

Two of them rushed at Kimberly from either side. Seeing them coming, she quickly delivered a side kick to one of them and quickly followed up with a back kick to the other, sending them back a little. Both of them regained composure and rushed at her, but she backflipped just in time and they ran into each other. She looked at them and giggled as they fell to the floor. “Cya! Wouldn’t wanna be ya!” she cheerfully said.

Meanwhile, Zack ran towards a bench, the two Putties that were chasing him following quickly behind. He leaped over it and ducked down. As he anticipated, one of the Putties jumped over as well. Just as it passed above Zack, he quickly stood up, the Putty sat on his shoulders. He spun around just as the other Putty jumped over. Ducking down slightly, the Putty collided into the one on Zack’s shoulders, sending them both flying behind him. He turned around to face them, the confident grin still on his face. “Don’t forget the postcard!” he chuckled.

Whilst Zack and Kimberly finished the Putties with creative flair, Tommy preferred just to beat them senseless. Both of them rushed him in a line. The one in front swung at him, but Tommy ducked and a quick sweeping kick left his opponent on the floor behind him. Looking up he saw the other Putty right in front of him. He effortlessly did an uppercut into it’s stomach before throwing it behind him, landing on the other Putty. He watched them trying to stand up before giving in. “Now run back to Rita, you’re not welcome around here!” he cried as they disappeared, along with the other four.

The Rangers regroup. Kimberly looked confused. “Anyone wanna guess what that was all about?” she said. Zack shrugged. “I dunno. I guess Rita just wanted to know she was still around.” Tommy shook his head. “Yea, but why? There has to be more to it than that.”

He reached for his communicator. “Jason, come in.” It took a few moments for the Red Ranger to answer. “I read you Tommy. What’s up?”

“Rita’s Putties just crashed in to party.” He replied. “Is everyone OK?” Jason quickly replied, a tone of worry in his voice. “Yea, we’re fine. Nothing we can’t handle. But something definitely isn’t right here, I’m sure of it. Listen, I know this’ll make us even later for class than we are already, but I think we should get to the Command Centre and speak with Zordon. I think Billy’s worries might have been well founded after all.”

There was a long pause; Tommy just took it to mean that Jason was discussing it with Billy and Trini. “Alright, we’ll meet you there. Jason out.” He replied. Tommy looked at the others and they all nodded. Looking around them for any people, they reached for their communicators and teleported away...
