Episode One
Operation Lightspeed
The desert outside of Mariner Bay are filled with mysterious ruins and amazing treasures. Through this very desert walked four travelers, their faces covered with cloth to protect their eyes from the whirling sand around them.
They panted heavily, their pace slowing to a complete stop among a small set of ruins. Sitting down on a large boulder, he sighed, his voice cracking because of his dry throat.
“Where is this treasure?” He asked the others, turning his gaze to them. The others shrugged their shoulders, sitting down on the sand. One of them slammed his fist down out of frustration, and he felt his hand hit something metal. With the click of a button, a piece of the ruins slid back, revealing a dark pit below.
The four travelers looked at each other, and they descended into the cavern. The cavern was dark, and the area was filled with a grey smoke. The only thing in the cave was an intricately designed chest sitting on the floor. His eyes wide, one of the travellers made his way over to the chest, the others not far behind him.
The four of them placed their hands on the chest simultaneously, and a small, wheel-like object slid outward. The wheel started spinning, and the lid of the chest started to slide outward.
Tendrils of darkness crawled from the chest, flying towards the four helpless travelers. The four of them began to run, trying desperately to get away from the darkness. The tendrils grabbed them, piercing their hearts.
Screaming, dark light surrounded the four of them, transforming them. The screaming faded, and four demons stood in the travelers’ places. Cackling maliciously, the four of them flew out through the entrance, heading towards the city.
Walter Mitchell walked briskly down the hallway, his black boots thudding against the metal floor. Reaching the metal doors of the Control Room, he slid his key card through the keypad beside the door. The door slid open, granting him access.
“Mrs. Caliente.” He spoke, nodding to a blonde-haired woman sitting at a computer desk nearby. She smiled back, returning her gaze to the computer.
“Are readings in the city normal?” Walter asked her as he sat down at his desk.
“Yes Mr.- Wait, Walter, you’re going to want to take a look at this.” She said, beckoning him over. He made his way to the computer, and as he surveyed the readings on the screen, a look of disbelief crossed his face.
“This… this can’t be right!” He exclaimed, turning his gaze to look at Mrs. Caliente. She looked back at him, a sad look in her eyes.
“I’m afraid it is, sir.” She told him, standing up. “Is it time?”
“Make the call.”
Noah Smith stood on the diving board, a huge smile on his face. The crowd went silent as he held his arms above his head, ready to dive. He jumped once, bouncing back up into the air a little. He jumped again, but this time, he soared through the air, falling towards the water. Flipping around thirteen times, he landed head first in the pool.
The crowd went wild, cheering and clapping. Noah smiled at the crowd as he pulled himself up out of the pool. Standing above him was a man in a black suit.
“Hi, can I help you? Do you want an autograph or something?” Noah asked him sarcastically.
“No, I need you to come with me.” The man replied, obviously ignoring Noah’s rudeness. There was something in the man’s voice that convinced Noah that he should go with this unknown man.
Kyle Richardson dug his shovel into the ground yet again, the dirt coming up in large chunks. He stuck his shovel in again, and it hit something metal. Placing his shovel off to the side, he reached into the ground, pulling up the object. It was a large chalice, and it was decorated beautifully.
He held it up in the air, admiring the way that the sun glinted off of it. Turning back to the pit, he saw a man standing in front of him.
“Kyle Richardson?” He asked. Kyle nodded, and the man directed him to a black car parked on the nearby road. Kyle followed, without a real reason.
Daniel Graves turned into the alley to see a man in a black trench coat holding a knife in his hand. A body was at his feet, blood pooling underneath it.
“Police, freeze!” Daniel yelled, running after the man. The man continued to run, and Daniel stopped, looking down at the body.
“I’m a nurse, I’ll take care of it.” A woman’s voice said from behind him. Turning, he saw a blonde woman behind him. He smiled at her gratefully, and he took off after the suspect once again. The suspect wasn’t very far ahead of Daniel, and he pulled out his pistol, aiming it at the man’s back.
“Stop running, or I’ll shoot!” Daniel yelled after him, but the man just kept running, ignoring his threats. Daniel closed his left eye, taking aim once more. He let loose two shots, getting the man in the back of both of his knees. The man dropped to the ground, howling in pain.
Daniel caught up with him, placing his pistol back in it’s holster. “I warned you, didn’t I?” He asked mockingly, snapping a pair of handcuffs on the man’s wrist. Hearing footsteps behind him, he turned to see the woman from before, along with two men in black suits come running up to him.
“Daniel Graves?” The man asked him, and Daniel nodded, looking at the woman in confusion. She smiled at him, gesturing for him to follow the three of them.
Anthony Everett stood in a fighting position, his fists held up in front of his face in a defensive position. He dodged his opponents punch, scoring a punch to the man’s gut. His opponent fell, holding his stomach. Anthony pumped his fist into the air, and he heard clapping from behind him. Turning, he saw a man in a black suit behind him.
“Anthony Everett?” The man asked him. Anthony nodded slowly, and the man turned, heading out towards the road. Anthony felt compelled to follow, and he did so, the door swinging shut behind him.
The five people sat around a long, steel conference table, looking around the room in confusion.
“Does anyone know why we’re here?” Kyle asked, looking at the others.
“No clue.” The woman answered, smiling. She held her hand out to Daniel, who was sitting beside her, and he shook it. “I’m Emma Harris.”
“That’s all well and good, but still, why are we here?” Anthony repeated Kyle’s question.
“I can answer that for you.” A deep voice piped up from behind them. “I am Walter Mitchell, and I have called you all here for a very important mission. It is called Operation Lightspeed.”
“Vypra, you are to go and attack the foolish humans.” Diabolico ordered, the green eyes on his chest flashing maliciously. Vypra bowed, her wings unfolding as she did. She took off into the sky, heading into the city.
“Operation Lightspeed?” Daniel asked, looking at Walter stupidly. Walter walked over to a large screen on the wall, turning it on with a touch. The screen displayed the outside of City Hall, which was in total chaos. A small army of bat-like creatures with small circular eyes were going around, attacking the citizens. Their screams pierced the air, as the civilians began to run away in every direction.
“We have to help them!” Emma cried, getting to her feet.
“I understand, and that is what Operation Lightspeed is all about.” He told them, pulling a small briefcase out from underneath the table.
Placing it on the table, he flipped it open to reveal five watch-like devices inside. Grabbing one, he placed it on the table.
“This is called a Rescue Brace. Using it, you can transform into the Lightspeed Rangers!” He told them majestically, a giddy look on his face.
“So, you did all this, created this place, just so we could be Power Rangers?” Noah asked him, leaning on the table. Walter nodded, and Noah smiled. “That is so cool!”
“Wait, this can’t be real.” Anthony piped up, getting to his feet. “I’m outta here.” He walked out of the room, and nobody tried to stop him.
“As for the rest of you. Put these on.” Walter stated, pressing a button on the wall. That portion of the wall slid out, revealing a closet of sorts. Inside were five uniforms, and the four heroes put them on.
“Let’s do this!” Kyle yelled, running towards the exit. Hopping into the big yellow jeep, it started up. The other three jumped into the back seat, and the jeep took off towards City Hall.
“Yes, Batlings! Destroy!” Vypra shouted, the sunlight glinting off of her armour. The Batlings moved from the humans and began to attack the area in general, smashing everything in sight.
The Lightspeed jeep skidded to a halt near the attacking Batlings, and the four heroes jumped out.
“Hey you, Bat face!” Noah shouted. Vypra spun around, glaring daggers at him.
“Humans? Batlings, attack!” Vypra shrieked, and the Batlings charged at the four rangers.
Emma kicked one Batling in the chest, sending it into another one behind it. Ducking underneath a punch, Emma grabbed the arm, flipping the Batling over her head. She failed to notice another one sneak up behind her, grabbing her arms. It kicked her in the back, and she went flying into the side of the jeep.
Noah and Kyle worked together, running at the Batlings at the same time. Noah rolled over Kyle’s back, kicking one in the chest. Landing, he performed a leg sweep, knocking a group of Batlings over. Kyle flipped into the air, landing on one of them. As he landed, a Batling punched him in the chest, and he went flying into Noah, knocking them both down.
Daniel landed a judo chop on one Batling’s neck, snapping it in a single strike. He cart wheeled backwards, avoiding a high kick from another one. A Batling pointed at him, and a blast of energy flew at him, sending him flying into a wall.
The four rangers got to their feet slowly, being herded slowly backwards by the horde of Batlings.
“Guys, I think its about time we morph.” Noah stated, pressing a button on his Rescue Bracer.
“Good idea.” The others agreed, copying his actions.
“Lightspeed, Rescue!”
Pressing another button on his Bracer, a green and white shield springs forth. Daniel grabs a corner of his uniform, and it flies off like a cloak, surrounding him in light. Holding his palms out in front of him, the shield moves closer to him, and Daniel moves through it. The shield forms the suit and the helmet. His visor fills in last.
Pressing another button on his Bracer, a blue and white shield springs forth. Noah grabs a corner of his uniform, and it flies off like a cloak, surrounding him in light. Holding his palms out in front of him, the shield moves closer to him, and Noah moves through it. The shield forms the suit and the helmet. His visor fills in last.
Pressing another button on his Bracer, a yellow and white shield springs forth. Kyle grabs a corner of his uniform, and it flies off like a cloak, surrounding him in light. Holding his palms out in front of him, the shield moves closer to him, and Kyle moves through it. The shield forms the suit and the helmet. His visor fills in last.
Pressing another button on her Bracer, a pink and white shield springs forth. Emma grabs a corner of her uniform, and it flies off like a cloak, surrounding her in light. Holding her palms out in front of her, the shield moves closer to her, and Emma moves through it. The shield forms the suit and the helmet. Her visor fills in last.
The four rangers stood, morphed.
“Whoa!” Kyle shouted, looking down at himself. The others actions nearly mirrored his own, and they got into their fighting stances once more.
Kyle, Noah and Daniel teamed up against the Batlings in front of them, their actions a blur of colour. Jumping off of Noah’s back, Daniel spun through the air, scoring blows on a couple of Batlings.
Smiling at Daniel’s success, Noah grabbed the blaster from his belt, firing at the creatures. They fell in a shower of sparks, and Noah laughed to himself.
Kyle blocked two punches aimed at his head with his gloves; the Batling’s arms flying back from the contact. He pulled out his blaster, and, pressing a button, he turned it into it’s sword mode. Cart wheeling towards the remaining Batlings, he slashed at them with his sword, destroying them quickly.
Emma ran at Vypra, pulling out her sword at the same time. Vypra hissed, pulling a long, silver sword from a sheath on her back. The two women clashed, their swords causing sparks to fly everywhere. Vypra broke the connection, spinning around quickly. Her sword slashed across Emma’s chest, sending pink sparks flying. Emma cried out in pain, demorphing.
“Bitch!” Kyle shouted, running at her. Vypra snapped her fingers, and a silver vehicle appeared beside her. Hopping inside, she revved the engine, speeding towards the rangers. At the last second, spikes slid from the wheels, slashing at the rangers. The other three fell, the pain causing them to demorph as well.
As she got out of her vehicle, she pointed her sword at the fallen rangers, ready for the finishing strike. The three rangers looked up at her in fear, bracing themselves for the finishing blow.
